omfg i'm sorry to rant but i NEED a sympathetic person to hear this. i like the every single album podcast more than most swifties, but today's ep -- and the last few -- are driving me insane. i am so fucking sick of hearing nathan and nora wring their hands over what joe might deal with. all harassment is bad, but i am done pretending that jake g and john mayer went through….any kind of wringer? they had like...a semi-awkward couple of weeks? jake is still a mega a-lister and john mayer is widely considered to be one of the greatest living guitarists. fuck, what mayer did was outright predatory -- and he's done it to multiple women -- and lbr, he lives 99% of his life totally unperturbed by it. he's not losing gigs or status in the places that matter to him; i suspect a lot of swifties aren't aware of this but i'm a guitar nerd, and uh, yeah, he's considered a living god and no one gives a shit what he did to taylor. and literally everyone woman in the public eye, including taylor, goes through worse every single fucking day, even at their heights of popularity. i don't know how to deal with hearing nathan and nora worry about :(((( omg what will joe go through :((((( when he's never going to have disgusting ai porn of himself explode across twitter on a random weekday. maybe i feel this strongly b/c i work in games, where hordes of male fans regularly ruin random women's lives because they animated a female character wearing a t-shirt instead of a string bikini, but i can't deal with this anymore. these men are fine. lots of people get mad at them, but it's because they did truly shitty things to her and she refused to absorb it silently. then it breaks, and their lives go on.
---
I feel like Nora really articulated what Anon was trying to say the other day about along the gist of "I hope something really bad happened to justify all of this." Interesting perspectives! Btw I just want to be super clear that I don't think Taylor or anyone has to justify anything like that! Just thought it was interesting how Nora put it in the latest episode and T's power is the unusual part of this equation.
---
In a very classic "I thought the two of you should meet!" re: today's The Ringer / Every Single Album pod episode.
I will say I read both of these messages before listening to the episode myself and tbh I think Nora ultimately landed in a pretty middle and reasonable place (it started out pretty rocky though) by the end of the episode. My understanding is she ultimately felt like Taylor has every right to tell the story that she wants / needs to tell and the work will speak for itself. That this is Taylor going face to face with the elephant in the room and (probably - we don't know obviously) not obfuscating the reality that we all saw play out in real time behind 'fictionalized' half truths roleplayed by semi-imaginary characters. And at the end of the day the (likely - AGAIN WE DON'T KNOW) reality is that she's prepared to walk through the narrative that is this pressure cooker storyline many are waiting with baited breath for which is the deterioration of her most significant relationship to date.
All that to say is that I think both of these points are incredibly valid. I personally have a lot of feelings wrapped up in it that do tend to come down more on the side of it's strange that the default position is this desire to sign up as first in line defence attorney for a man when the crime as we know it is 'woman writes her life into art'.
Nora interestingly noted that there's a "pressure for this album to come with receipts" (paraphrase) based on this (fan) hyped up narrative of something sinister having gone awry that this album will pull the curtain back on. And if it fails to do that, enter said self-appointed attorneys.

Not Nathan talking about how it sucks for the people who got Tied Together for a Smile in Seattle on the newest Every Single Album episode 💀 DOES HE NOT KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ADORE THAT SONG!?

Hi Sarah! I’d love to know what album you this NaNo should’ve picked for Travis! Dare I say Lover? ;) I could see Fearless!
Nathan picked reputation. Nora picked Lover.
The answer is obviously Fearless.
Yw.

“Taylor is not the only arena in which this has happened … Serious stakes get built up around Harry Styles: a fundamentally silly man” - a new all time favourite quote by Nora. PERFECTION.

Hi! I just listened to the latest Nano pod (why do I keep doing it to myself??) and listening to them talk about the movie I really need to know - do they actually like Taylor Swift???????? like in some parts it sure doesn't feel that way argh
This is such a great question lmfao I'll let you know once I listen to it.

how do these people have a podcast??? is everyone just hate-listening at this point, or are the discussions pretty good if it’s only focused on the music?
I will say that though I very much disagree with a lot of the takes that NaNo talks about that holding different opinions is okay. It is in fact healthy! And fun! And part of what makes podcasts hosted by 1+ person interesting because it leads to discussions and back/forth arguments. And also why listening is fun - because you get to be in on highly specific niche fandom discourse. I know I'd love to get in the ring with NaNo one day to talk all the things - if they'd let me.
I will say on their part that they are (generally) thoughtful and respectful hosts who are very clearly genuine fans of Taylor and talk about her art with the respect and reverence it deserves. And that is worth something!
That in mind, Nora really needs to dunk on Nathan more though for some of his nonsense because sometimes it really veers into 🤬😵‍💫 territory (as I look forward to finding out re: GUTS).

HeySarah, in case you have or havent listened to the new TTPD nano episode I'm here to tell you it's a good one! I usually come here to bitch and moan as taylor would say about nano but they genuinely sound excited about the album to me and I laughed a few times too *chefs kiss*
Hi hi! I absolutely plan on listening to it but it's such a struggle because how do I sacrifice the two hours I could spend listening to TTPD to listen to NaNo talk about TTPD???

Killatrav doesn’t seem like any of her albums to me, thus my answer is incorrect ;) but truly, I can’t match him up to any of them! Did they say why rep? Maybe he seems more hip hop than pop/country/folk, idk. I can’t get myself to listen to nano again after becoming too angry for my health on several occasions lol
Nathan said it had to do with his clothes :))))))))))))))))))

I think Nathan likes to say provocative things that people will disagree with just to get more people to engage and listen. I never would have heard of this podcast if people here were not complaining about what he said. Which made me curious so then I go listen and then I tell other people about his weird comments and then they go listen. You know?! It’s just marketing. And being contrary.
Oh absolutely lol

I'm one of the few that actually enjoys NaNo lol, but I do think Nora approaches it as a fan whereas Nathan approaches it as an industry professional which I find really interesting. She gushes about the music, but Nathan seems more impressed by the record setting and the business parts of her career. Not that he doesn't enjoy the music, but it's not why he's here if you know what I mean, and I think maybe that puts people off. Not the only reason, but maybe part of it 🤷
Don’t get me wrong my playful ribbing of NaNo is usually from the perspective of having a difference in taste - which is subjective and totally fine. For instance, Nathan saying the More Lana version of “SotB” didn’t add anything to the song which I couldn’t disagree with more and that is all part of the fun of being in fandom and having differing opinions.
I do appreciate the balance they as commentators give (you nailed the description of their respective roles here) and jokes aside I do think they are genuine and very thoughtful fans. And that level of sincere fanship is appreciated as they dive deep into things.
Sometimes Nathan does say things where I do feel like he’s saying them just to say them or flex some kind of unnecessary clout or draw needless comparisons of, “This song sounds like this other song in her discography or by Coldplay probably”.
Also his opinion on “Dear John” quite literally had me seeing red I was deeply infuriated there.

Hi Sarah, did you maybe listen to new nano ep about eras tour movie? I'm half an hour in and I'm already getting frustrated.
(Spoilers) They are talking about it in such a weird and confusing way. I honestly can't tell if Nathan even liked it. He's just loudly saying things about fans and the numbers of it all, giving me a weird vibe. I can't, why do I keep coming back.😂 Please do share your thoughts.😄
He does have such a fun way of doing that doesn’t he.
I haven’t listened yet but oh will I.

ANON I FELT THE SAME WAY I have never been so viscerally 😠 with Nathan as with the coda portion of their most recent episode!!
Oh I really truly can't wait.

Hi Sarah! Have you heard NaNo's latest podcast about Guys? They have a post ep section where they talk about Taylor and IT MADE ME SO ANGRY LIKE BOILING RAGE LEVEL. Nathan Hubbard is the definition of a man who should not be allowed to talk about a woman's (and especially not princessTay's) love life because HE JUST DOES NOT GET IT
I haven't listened yet but I do have steps that need to be stepped today and stepping angry is a great outlet. Can't wait.
