HOLY BATMAN, WOULDJA LOOK AT THAT!
Chatter about this beneath the cut.
So I’ve mentioned at least once that The Sims 4 made me very, very upset.  I’m a huge Simmer, I’ve played all of them,  I received the very first The Sims game on Christmas in 2000 and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Naturally, I preordered The Sims 4 in 2014, with the guide and everything.  And I kid you not, one of the first pages of the OFFICIAL guide listed the things that weren’t in TS4 at launch, including absolute staples like toddlers and pools.  It went on to say, “Well, what IS in the game?”  I am not joking.  This was the OFFICIAL GUIDE.
ANYWHO, I waited about...  I dunno, four years?  For there to be enough content to make up for this, then bought stuff when it was all half off.  I’m still disappointed, mostly by the lack of traits that impact personality/behaviors- there aren’t many compared to TS3 (comparing base game to base game), and a large chunk of them simply control how often Sims get certain emotions or how fast they gain skills.  And most of the new content has been rehashing stuff from older games- although, to be fair, that’s tradition.
(The big exception here is the Parenthood game pack, which is amazing!  It makes raising your kids much more interesting than it’s ever been.  If you wanna get into TS4 and don’t know what to buy, my opinion is that Seasons and Parenthood are the absolute must haves).
Anywho, Cottage Living is easily the most excited I’ve been for any official TS4 releases.  We’ve never really gotten country/farm life before (unless I’m forgetting a more minor release?)!  Yeah, we have gardening, and yeah, we have Brindleton Bay, but there are roads and traffic sounds everywhere in that world.  We usually get cities, suburbs, or more specialized sites (camp sites, tropical vacation sites, beaches, mountains- note that I love Sulani and Mt. Komorebi though, because they add variety to non-vacation areas).
I am also dying that it looks like there are way more animals in this than there were for Cats and Dogs.  Hah!  Of course, the Cats and Dogs/My First Pets Stuff debacle is probably the most embarrassing part of TS4 story, which is... which is saying a lot.  (The two packs are sold separately, but you must have Cats and Dogs to play My First Pets Stuff; they released DLC for DLC, which was just too far for lots of folks, with good reason).
I will say that TS4 team does seem to be trying harder lately, with all the free updates and the increase in quality of recent releases.  I appreciated that they had actual Simmers build lots for Mt. Komorebi, for example, since sooooo many of the official TS4 builds are mind-bogglingly... bad.  Like, the world environments look great!  The builds are an embarrassment!  Like, yeah, obviously Simmers use CC and the gallery, but you still have to try.  Stop building mansions with four bathrooms and 1 toilet, for pity’s sake (alas, this too is a real thing).
BUT LOOK!  BRAND NEW CONTENT!!!!  LOTS OF CRITTERS!!!!!  A whole rural life that we haven’t experienced before in The Sims!
It’s nice to look forward to TS4 stuff!  But no, no I will not preorder to get a few bonus items, EA xD
