Late to the party! But I am participating in #fallforcostume started by @redthreaded !! First photo by @dreadpiraterose for her portrait project years ago! #intro : I am a NYC based nerd and costume enthusiast. I have no real sewing ability but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying dressing up. I’m most known for my kimono collection and expertise, which I don’t consider costuming as it’s a cultural garment. I’ve collected and worn kimono for 15 years and am involved in the Japanese community in NY. I participate in lectures and panels on kimono when possible. I’m also an avid nerd and steampunk connoisseur. I was heavily involved in the NY steampunk scene but have taken a step back in recent years to focus on my love of kimono. Most of my cosplays & costumes are either commissions from talented friends or vintage thrift and specialty items. In the first photo I’m wearing a vintage blouse, a opera length string of pearls, vintage gloves, and a lace neck corset by @kvodesign ! #pattern : so since I have the most basic of basic sewing abilities I don’t use patterns. However I did purchase the #trulyvictorian 1884 Wash Overskirt pattern years ago for a Steampunk Scarlet Witch costume that never really got off the ground. Christine's crinoline finally looks like something other than a pile of ribbons! And yes I did get the trash can and the fans to hold the bag's shape while I was putting in the boning. Still have a bunch of hoops to put in, and hopefully by then I'll have received the tulle I ordered to make the petticoat.
