CGW Costume College Scholarship Update: 2023 Written Essay Applicants Thank you to everyone who applied for a Costume College Scholarship through CGW’s Written Essay Scholarship program in 2023. We had 9 amazingly talented applicants this year, and are pleased to announce that thanks to the generosity of the Guild members, all of the applicants have been awarded a scholarship to Costume College! The cuffs and an actual belt need to be done still, but now that the collar is done, here's my #reformdress for #cocovid and the #reformdresschallenge! I wasn't planning on participating, then I kept thinking about how I'd make one, and a couple days later I ended up making one anyway! Thanks @juulvictoria and @fannyfadenfroh for putting this on, it's been a fun project to do and an awesome weekend hanging out with everyone in the chat! I’m not one to post photos of me in my undergarments, but perhaps this is a unique situation? LOL! ⚜️ I made an 18th century #chemise out of an old linen tablecloth I have had for years. It has stains and even some small holes, but it is gloriously soft and feels so good on. And let’s face it - I’m not a white tablecloth dining kind of person anyway! ⚜️ I’m also working on a set of 18th century stays, and this was my first time trying on the unfinished garment. I’ve never worn a corset-like garment before, so that was new. But I did find it interestingly comfortable and supportive in a way our common 2020 undergarments just aren’t. #goodbyebra They aren’t finished, but they have been very fun to build and I am absolutely loving the process! I see #historybounding in my future! ⚜️ I made the stays from some linen I had on hand, and two of my Austrian’s old worn out shirts. The shirts were toast, but parts of the cloth still had wear left in it. How’s this for #upcycling #recycling and #reuse ?! What fun! Combined with a crazy amount of heavy duty zip ties that work as boning, and my new passion: grommets, I am well on my way to a full on 18th century adventure! What fun!! ⚜️ Now who has a crap-ton of white, natural, or pale blue cotton or linen calico they don’t want anymore? I am now officially taking donations of antique linen tablecloths! LOL! ⚜️ Building stays with cloth and structural elements has opened my world to a whole world of structural sewing. OMG - there is a crazy amount of potential with these simple building materials! We are really only limited by our imagination. And my imagination is pretty epic! I think this is going to be an exceedingly fun experiment!! Oh and #grommets are so much fun to add to a garment, I think I need more of that as well! #costumecollege really ruined me for ordinary clothing. When I started to understand the ramifications... well, I can get really and truly weird now.
