I skydived into the inbox as soon as I heard the word sequel. Hand over the context
hiii ok so basically
tommy applies for and then gets a job at the general store that used to be katsumoto co. there’s some tension between him and stan for a little bit because of this but it does not last long
tommy and stan move into a tiny little one-room apartment in mr oishi’s building
tommy starts working as a stockboy at the general store and befriends his coworker/the owner’s daughter (a white girl named lucille)
yum-yum and her family return to japantown
this is all i’ve written so far and we are sitting at 4222 words but you can also expect:
the return of keiko kimura!
mas coming home from war
aroace tommy
a multitude of conversations that take place on tommy and stan’s fire escape
minnow and tommy’s queer-to-queer communication
tommy harano escaping his parents and finding happiness in a place he never thought he would!
a lot more i have not planned yet!
i’m literally insane about him. here is a snippet:
Minnow’s sketching the Golden Gate Bridge when Tommy slips out to join him on the fire escape.
“Looking good,” Tommy says, gesturing to Minnow’s sketchbook as he sits down beside him. Minnow looks up.
“Thanks,” he says, but there’s something in his eyes that Tommy can’t quite decipher.
“You okay?” he asks. Minnow sets aside his sketchbook.
“We see it from a different angle up here,” he says. Tommy furrows his eyebrows.
“The bridge, I mean. It’s like, I drew it so many times from the old apartment that it feels… wrong to try and do it from here. I mean, my lines are all wrong; the perspective’s fucked–”
Here, he takes the sketchbook back into his hands and shows Tommy what looks to him like a beautiful rendition of the view from his new fire escape. Minnow’s got that artist’s eye, though, he supposes. And thirteen years of drawing the Golden Gate Bridge from one angle.
“I don’t like it when things change,” Minnow says softly, and there’s a sudden ache in Tommy’s chest that feels like it's been there since before Tanforan.
“Sometimes, I miss Topaz,” he confesses. “The desert snow, the way you could see the constellations—”
He pauses. “Is that fucked?”

It's 1944 when you finally find your way back to San Francisco, and the neighborhood is so different that it leaves an ache in your chest.
Or, Tommy Harano returns to Japantown, reunites with some old friends, does some grieving, some dreaming, and then some self-discovery.

Three Fics Tag Game
I was tagged by @stardustviolet!
Rules: name your most popular fic and two “hidden gems” that haven’t circulated as much.
#1 (Most popular fic): Just Know That You're Loved (and that you're enough) - Avatar: The Last Airbender Summary: the obligatory "toph finds out about zuko's scar" fic. a forgotten gem from the atla renaissance! apparently all you had to do to get kudos in the summer of 2020 was post a jumble of words that had "zuko" somewhere in it.
#2 (Hidden gem): Nothing Ever Stays the Same - We Are Not Free (Traci Chee) Summary: tommy harano returns to japantown and rebuilds. highkey one of the best fics i've ever written but next to no one has read we are not free lmfao. if you like introspection, lamenting on the nature of change, and excessive icarus metaphors, this fic is for you!
#3 (Hidden gem): In the Dark, I Could See the Real Truth About Me (Lord, if I make it through tonight) - Roswell (1999) Summary: the kyle gets powers fic! it's about the hurt/comfort, the road trip aesthetic, the found family dynamic... not to brag but it's another good one lmao
