i guess i have to say it a million times since people insist on being dense: gale is just as much of a victim as the other companions. this isn't the trauma olympics. everyone has been through shit and deserves healing and redemption.
gale is not the self entitled, manipulative abuser people are painting him as. he's a lot of things, but nothing so heinous. he was groomed by a goddess who has a history of preying on wizards that threaten her power, and as a result, gale's ambition and faith was what drove him to discover the netherese orb. what he did was for mystra - in his mind, it was to prove his love by restoring her missing power - and by extension for the betterment of mortals. his actions were never malicious or selfish, in fact he puts himself so low on the priority list it's pretty much non existent. he was never going to use that power to usurp her, but mystra definitely saw it like that, which is why she didn't hesitate to present suicide as his only solution. he never crossed her personal boundaries in the way people are twisting it, he only wanted to cross the boundaries she put on wizards and their power.
people who insist he's all of these things and more clearly only spoke to him once or lack the reading comprehension to see past how much of an unreliable narrator he is. i can understand first impressions might put some people off, but you can say the same about the other companion introductions. i don't like comparing but since people insist on doing it; gale is one of the easiest companions to get along with just by being a good person, yet his honesty and selflessness makes people think he's secretly evil? while the companions with the capacity to be evil don't even try to hide it? how are people being so backwards about this? it's genuinely baffling and tiring to see people continuously spit out incorrect takes all too confidently.
no one is forcing anyone to like him, but it's unfair to completely mischaracterize him because you refuse to learn critical thinking. i promise using your brain is not as scary as it seems, or you can just. not talk about things you don't understand.

Out of curiosity why do you ship sabine and shin ?
Okay anon so I am trying to figure out how to approach this ask because I know that this fandom has a real problem with bad-faith actors looking to troll Wolfwren shippers and I do not have the patience to deal with that, but also I do want to talk about them because they're lovely.
So. If you are asking because you're a troll, the answer is that I'm a big mean lesbian who likes ruining Star Wars and gets off on making innocent fanboys cry, #sorrynotsorry, it's part of my Terrible Queer Ruining Agenda and I am going to be doing it every second Tuesday until society as you know it has crumbled into gay dust.
If you're not a troll: because they hit this very particular combination of Trope Buttons that makes me ever so happy, anon!
Because it's about - like, there are ships that I love because they are a type of loving partnership that entrances me, where I see myself or see the type of love that speaks to my soul and want to enjoy the process of rolling around in it like a cat in nip. Then there are ships that I love because I'm attached to a particular character where like - this blorbo deserves the world and that includes a healing love, a warm love, a love that cultivates a space for them to rest after the harsh world around them has bruised them ever so.
THEN there are ships where - the dynamic fascinates me and I want to dig deeper into it. Where it's not about cultivating love as much as it is taking what's on screen to its gayest and most extreme possible endpoint, and that's where Sabine/Shin really gets me.
It's about the deep obsession of nemeses and the way that can feel inherently queer. It's about the ways that they are both mirrors and opposites. The way that Sabine carries so much anger and self-loathing and shame and guilt in her little heart and constantly pretends that she doesn't. The way that limits her throughout the series is riveting to me.
It's the idea of Shin, who in may ways is a more successful Jedi but in other ways is a sad, lonely little weirdo who has no community except for this weird old man and pretends that she's fine with it but can't be.
The way that they are both successes and failures in ways that mirror each other, the way that they orbit each other as nemeses and fight constantly but in their darkest moments have a weird little glimmer of - not love, but the beginnings of compassion.
And I have seen lots of writers and artists who look at that glimmer and see it as the beginning of a 200k slowburn story where they bicker and argue and slowly tenderize each other into being people who can be vulnerable, who learn to soften their prickly edges to fit around each other. And that's wonderful, and that's a beautiful way to ship Sabine & Shin.
For me, it's more about digging into that weird, fucked up little place of what if they didn't. What if they stayed fucked up and didn't soften but those orbits got closer and closer together. What if it wasn't toweringly romantic what if the orbit was the path of a comet colliding with a moon. What if that was somehow what each of them needed even though they both hated needing it. What does it feel like to confront the fact that sometimes our desires and what we want our desires to be don't align? What would it be like to envelop that in the complex ten-dimensional web of denial that both of them embody; desiring but pretending not to desire, indulging but pretending not to indulge. How far could that go before it hit a crisis point? What would that crisis point be?
There are so many stories there and that's fascinating and a thing that I find fun to explore in fiction, anon. If that's not for you, that's totally alright but there might be other dimensions that I described above where they ping with your interests more.
Or, they might just not be for you, and that's also okay.

i totally agree on the key maiden plot being bs!! it absolutely ruined dante's route for me :/
now i'm wondering about your opinion on orlok? bc i personally couldn't really see how his route was supposed to be romantic. and oh man that bad end left an impression... but i also found the good end unsettling, somehow.
anyways, have a good day/ night <3
I feel bad for Orlok as a character, I think if the writing for him was better he could’ve been okay, but as it is he got the shaft a lot. They made him very sympathetic, what with his backstory and upbringing, but his father is never held accountable and is even kinda framed as a good guy? No thanks bruh, because of you, Orlok thinks it's okay to go through life eating only bread and drinking water - basically having crumbs for life. Boy is malnourished on both love and food. Mostly I just want nice things for him but I did personally find him a bit boring. He’s not as bad as the Falzones though, its just that cinnamon rolls aren’t my thing. And as a love interest? Gonna pass on that. Orlok felt like one of Lili’s missing children from the church orphanage. He just fits right in:
Tumblr media
She read him bedtime stories and tucked him in FFS, their whole deal was very mothering.  I have some issues with how Orlok sees Lili too, as if she’s some sort of flawless creature from the heavens. He’s not as bad as Henri on the judgey mc judgerson scale- the latter basically shaming Lili in the Finale whenever he sees her for hanging out with the Mafia (something she can't really help.) Still though Orlok said some stuff in the game that’s very…virtue guarding that I don’t vibe with.
Liliana is also extremely unlikable in Orlok’s route, as with most MCs she changes a bit based on who she’s with. Lili in Orloks route doubles down on the religious aspect of her character and is hella judgy. She calls the Lao Shu Heathens, much like how Orlok calls Yang the Devil (lol) and while yes, they’re not good people- I think them not believing in God should be the last thing on your priority list to point them out as ‘bad guys.’ Also the whole Luka thing was awful. Dying orphan is dying but OH WE MUST BAPTISE HIM. Yes because that’s what’s most important here.
While I’m here and on a rant, let me just say - I don’t like the portrayal of any of the mafia bosses in Orloks route too. It feels like a different writer handled them. Some people complain about Dante being OOC but I have less of a problem with him here, it tracks that he’d go unstable. Dude is very fragile and weak without Nicola and the memory of his dad’s killer getting unlocked makes him snap- reasons are given for it that we can follow.
Gil and Yang though? Nah they got screwed over here.
Gilbert in every other route is pretty amiable to the public. He’ll kill the innocent without hesitation but only if the circumstances call for it (i.e: Lili being Yang’s woman makes it okay for Gil to shoot her/ the boat incident where he sinks the ship and kills the human trafficking victims) Otherwise though, he’s a ‘for the people’ guy. He didn’t get his leadership through heritage (Dante) or by being strong (Yang) he got it because of his people skills, his charisma. In his route, he’s clearly got some interest in what’s going on with Lili but he protects her and takes in Luka largely because he cares about the citizens. What does he do in Orlok’s route? Well fuck all that stuff, Lili and Orlok interrupted his business deal!!! …Because they were fleeing for their lives from the Falzones and the Falzone’s were shooting loudly! So it’s all Orlok’s fault Gil's deal went south and now Gil must kill him!
Yeah that…makes sense.
Tumblr media
With Yang, I think a lot of people won’t notice how different his writing is. They’ll dismiss him as ‘well he’s Yang, he’s crazy.’ True, but Yang has certain things that make him tick. In his route and others, its established he values survival. He will do anything to get entertainment yes, but also survive- because he wants to keep playing. He wants to have fun. Yang specifically values Wisdom in his route, because wisdom = survival. He likes it when Lili cleverly fights back to survive. What does Yang do in Orlok’s route? He sets up this plan for everyone to chase Orlok and try to kill him, just because, and then fights Orlok- while saying:
Tumblr media
Like wow. Way to miss the point of his character. He’s also very a cartoony villain here.
Tumblr media
Seriously who tf is this guy. Why the hell would Yang care about that.
I won’t touch on Orloks bad end because there's not much to say. It's your standard 'lets now horrifically torture these characters.' I hear some of the bad ends in 1926 go in that direction too.

Talking about Encanto - Mirabel
I've actually found a few people stating online the movie shouldn't have been about Mirabel because family member x is more interesting, and I'm really not on board with that. I mean, I also wish the rest of the family will be explored in further material, but on cost of Mirabel's story getting shoved aside? Seems like it kinda abandons the premise of the movie, doesn't it?
Not that I'm not biased here because I think Mirabel is an awesome protagonist. To my own surprise, I love her - even though she shares a lot of characteristics with Frozen's Anna. They both are quirky, energetic, cheerful, dancing half of the time (I need me a swooshy skirt like Mirabel's), unswervingly loyal, have issues with their sisters, try to repair family bonds that were damaged years ago and had them be left alone with a trauma at some point, all of that. But while I saw Anna always as a bit of a brat and found her a little annoying, Mirabel is my precious darling babygirl. And I can't quite put down why I feel differently about the two of them. Is it because Mirabel is fifteen and has an overall intact family (well, not emotionally healthy, but, y'know, she's not orphaned and isolated from her sole remaining family member) and thus I don't feel her cheerful, hype attitude is as misplaced and age-inappropriate as it is for eighteen-year-old Anna who has severe reasons to not be cheery at all? Or maybe because Mirabel is so relentlessly snarky even just via silent facial expressions? It might also be because Anna is sorta pushy with Elsa and lacks Mirabel's amazing ability to listen.
This family needs so much therapy, but really? The actual miracle is that Mirabel didn't lose her temper or mind at some point over the past ten years and asked her Abuela sometime earlier what is her fucking problem. Especially given that Mirabel absolutely has the temper for it, see her flipping-out contest with Isabela. Have I already talked about how much I love their arc? I have? Shame. Because this is so strong, character-wise. Consider the point from where they start out: While Mirabel is definitely not to blame for the conflict, her handling the situation is not exactly stellar. She's pressured to apologize when she wasn't the one who ruined the proposal, so she's sarcastic and angry about it and starts to insult her sister because... well, she doesn't actually want to embrace Isabela; she wants to save the magic, and getting her to a hug is just means to an end. So there are actually two tipping points here; first is Isabela's development, and the other is Mirabel's, overcoming her grudge to acknowledge her sister for who she is instead of who she has always perceived her as.
Which, honestly? Is tough work after what she's been through. The part where no one calls her to join in on the photo, not even Antonio who otherwise adores her, not even her parents who would usually never forget about her? That hurts so bad. I've read people say that Mirabel would be in the right to have the movie be her villain origin story - good thing then she isn't villain material. (Isabela would make an excellent Evil Queen tho.) What's making things heavier is that there's 1st, Abuela, who influences 2nd, the other Madrigals, who are 3rd, the center of the entire town, giving the basis for all of them disregarding her in some way. I still wanna kick the not-special special guy. And those impudent kids who are like, "if I were you, I'd be really sad", picking up on the mindset that Mirabel is somehow incomplete, even if she doesn't perceive herself that way and would be fine if she were included like the rest. I see where the disability / ableism metaphor gets its steam.
What's really unfair about this is that the townsfolk, just like Abuela, have different expectations of family Madrigal than they have of other people, than they have of themselves. They are non-magical, but they are allowed to be non-magical. Inside the family, this is a flaw that it isn't for the rest of the world. That's what you get for elevating people to godhood status - and what isolates Mirabel to some degree from the town's people as much as from the family.
I wonder if the situation had been better if the magic hadn't fucked up her ceremony so badly. I mean, I already got into the problematic aspect of making this a public spectacle for everyone to gawk at, but that was really something - making an already existing glowy door disappear on touch? What the fuck, Casita? Drama much? Even if Mirabel didn't get a gift, I feel there's an unnecessary cruelty in denying her a room of her own. I do like the nursery; it's definitely a room Mirabel has made her home and shaped, but it is consistently called the nursery, not Mirabel's room. She shares it with five-year-old Antonio, until he gets a room of his own while fifteen-year-old Mirabel stays where she is. That is demeaning, on some level. I wonder if she gets an own room when Casita is rebuild. Or are you telling me that she's forever condemned to babysitter duties for Dolores' babies, for any of the next generation her cousins and sisters might produce? What if Mirabel falls in love; would she be the only Madrigal to get kicked out of the house to live with her partner and maybe kids elsewhere? Eeehh. This was really poorly-thought out. And it doesn't quite fit the otherwise very close relationship Mirabel of all Madrigals has with Casita.
But something more about the room, it has the same hand-decorated, self-made feeling about it that Mirabel's clothing has. That is such a specialty of hers, that she makes things her own without being naturally, magically gifted for anything in particular. I love that about her sewing; it isn't a talent, it's a skill. Perhaps that's why they managed to re-build the house, because they have a family member among them who always had to do things the mundane way - and is shockingly capable of keeping up. She might not be as strong as Luisa or as much of a vines acrobat as Isabela, but have you seen her best both Bruno's room and his in-walls parkours on the first go? Playing with super-powered siblings and cousins all your life had to pay out somewhere along the line.
And her not being put into one specific role has paid out for them as well, with slotting Mirabel into the memetic role of the family therapist. That is, because she's not stuck with one very narrow task field, she has all that energy to invest in the happiness of the people around her, helping her mother in the kitchen, setting up decorations for the party, giving her little Antonio a pep talk, listening to Pepa and Félix telling their stories, digging until she gets to the ground of Luisa's and Isabela's issues. Getting Alma to talk to her sincerely, and moving past her behavior to forgive her. And Bruno, of course, the other family weirdo. It's pretty clear that even Mirabel finds his mannerisms weird, but the bad reputation Bruno and his visions have in town don't keep her from asking his help and offering him help, namely to bring him home, in return. Because she's been on the other side of this; she knows what it feels like to be othered. I love her bonding time with Bruno.
On that note, I'm not sure I get the family relationship switching fics out there that make Mirabel Bruno's daughter. I mean, whatever, but I don't see the point when all of the family members of the parental generation treat all of the kids as if they were their own anyway. Would it actually make a difference for Bruno if Mirabel were his kid instead of his niece? Would it make a difference in Julieta's and Pepa's behavior, in Félix' and Agustín's? I don't feel it would. They are just this big family bunch with Mirabel in their middle to glue it all together. Gosh, I love the finale with the door and the photo and everything. Who needs subtle when you can have it all in a big colorful rush and it's just so good?

First off, thank you for all these years of analysis and rambles, I'm really happy to have found your blog, Khadija ! Secondly, what a disappointing ending, I can't believe what the fuck happened. So many questions were left unanswered, like what happened to the source after it turned everyone into titans ! Also the fact that Isayama did Eren so dirty having him throw a fit over not being able to be with Mikasa (when he never even showed any interest in her), even made him responsible for Carlas death, disgusting. Isayama had claimed multiples time that he didn't understand Eren and it shows, idk who that was but that wasn't Eren Jaeger. Now people are going around calling him an incel and it pisses me off, he ruined everything Eren ever represented. All that build up about paths, freedom, sacrifice, boiled down to Mikasa and "the power of love", it's a joke. Anyways, hope your doing well !
P.s- If your looking to get into anything new (i can't believe i'm about to say this) I actually do recomend Tokyo Ghoul, the ending is more tolerable than Snk and GoT. The story deals a lot with society and how people (and ghouls) interact in it, and the main character is a lot like Eren (although not at the beginning ), there's a lot of space for theories and analysis too. The first part of the story is actually amazing would 100% recommend, the second part, Tokyo Ghoul RE:, is actually where it sort of goes slightly downhill (mainly when it reaches the middle part, towards the end). But honesty is overall a good read. However don't touch the anime, after S1 they changed a lot of things and ruined everything.
Aww, thank you for putting up with my posts for that long 💕! I still can’t believe some people have been following me for years 😱.
And yes, it’s a shame that Isayama fucked up a wonderful story with his ending... 100% agreed about his lack of understanding Eren’s character showing. I really wish he had just left him be instead of butchering him like this.
It also disturbs me to think about how Isayama said he was projecting onto Eren too, considering the comment he made in the Final Exhibition (which also went to waste; what was the point of setting up all that stuff between Eren and Reiner when the plot was reduced to this lmao) interview, about finding the part of himself he didn’t want to see in Eren after all. I wonder if it has anything to do with all the weird “romantic” shit.
As for the comments Eren is getting...the narrative unfortunately did portray him that way in this chapter. I hate that the incel claims even have a foundation now...
Lastly, I’m not sure I’m ready to dive into any other series wholeheartedly at the moment... I was planning on starting the JJK manga but I don’t want to touch shounen ever again. And I actually know the gist of the plot of Tokyo Ghoul; there’s a lot that’s been spoiled for me already (just today, my sister was describing its ending in detail to compare it to snk lol). I did give it a try once (the first episode of the anime), but the concept freaked me out 😂. I also heard there were torture scenes in it and that put me off. It’s the same reason I haven’t read the manga for Ajin. It’s easier to skip scenes in an anime than in a manga.
Anyways, maybe I will give it a try again someday. I’ll keep your recommendation in mind 😄.

Spookiz Multiverse Theory
Some people noticed that Spookiz the Movie had some differences from the series. Though, I’ve never seen all of them mentioned anywhere so I decided to write them down. I didn't take into consideration the Spookiz Cookie, music videos and commercials since they don't actually take place anywhere at all. It's pretty understandable why Cula has a phone in Spook it Up! but doesn't know what a cellphone is in the movie. So my points for Spookiz Multiverse Theory are the following.
1. The Roles
Tumblr media
I think, everyone noticed that in the movie Cula and Kong Kong are not so naughty and mischievous as in the series. Kebi, on the other hand, seems more prankish and a little bit more aggressive than his show counterpart. Ofc, Cula as a protagonist cannot do pranks and gloat over other kids anymore, and Kong Kong as his sidekick cannot do the same. Also all Spookiz need to look weaker comparing to the hunter so we could sense the danger of the situation better. Thus, a role of a trickster is left only for Kebi.
2. Cula as a Student
Tumblr media
Cula seems to be a good student in the movie while in the series he is constantly distracted or asleep in class and, as a result, he fails tests completely. I actually would have expected Cula’s academic performance to deteriorate in the movie after having ruined his sleep patterns for several weeks to meet with Hana. Though, It is possible that he learnt a thing or two that helped him with his classes. Either way, he is a nerd in the movie.
3. Cula’s OCD
Tumblr media
Even before the series hit YouTube, Cula's Facebook official bio indicated that he had OCD. OCD is the uncontrollable, irrational actions that people take to get rid of anxious thoughts that do not correspond with reality. In the movie, Cula claims that he simply can't stand mess. However, we could see him panicking when Sam was getting his desk dirty, and how he simply couldn't resist cleaning it in the middle of the day, risking his health and getting caught by a human. Also, Cula never changed his sit in the movie and didn't care about other desks in the class being dirty, which means he needs to take a particular seat and always keep it clean to get rid of certain anxious notion and feel safe again. In the series Cula constantly changes seats and although he is squeamish, he doesn't seem to take such repetitive irrational actions. Not to mention times when Cula didn't care about the mess or forgot to wear his gloves.
4. Character Design
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some characters got new design elements. In the movie Kebi has shaggy hair and Kong Kong has a darker palette. Reaper Sam got a black fog as if he was from the sims. Also I thought that I found an interesting difference that in the movie the school security guard didn't have the mole on his cheek that (I thought) he had in the series. Unfortunately, it turned out that he had the mole only in Halloween special which is a shame bc I think it was a nice design detail. Still his eye colour was charged for the movie from amber to black (which is also kinda sad to me).
5. The School
In the movie the entire school looks different and that's okay, it is supposed be more realistic and detailed than in the series. Its structure seems more complex than in the show, it has some sort of H or more likely _T_ shape: two buildings are connected through the walkway on the second floor. Here Cula and Kong Kong got new spots to live. Instead of being neighbors on one of the floors, Kong Kong lives in a box in the attic/the part of the main building where the clocks are, and Cula's locker is on the ground floor (I believe) in a smaller building. The classroom the Spookiz study in is on the third floor of the main big building which is actually far from Cula's spot.
Tumblr media
The classroom interior is also entirely different but I would like to point out two major things. The first thing is that in the movie they had single desks while in the series there were double ones. They needed Hana to be the only human kid involved in the story, which would probably be difficult if she had a deskmate. The second thing is that there are two different world maps in the classroom. In the movie there's a European (?) world map with Europe being closer to the centre of the map. In the series there's a Chinese (?) world map with China being closer to the centre and Americas being on the right side of the map.
6. Accessories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cula has at least two accessories that got a new design. The first one is his bag. In the series he and some other of the Spookiz have purple nylon (?) schoolbags. In the movie Spookiz's bags are brown and made of leather or imitation leather. Another thing is that Cula has red earphones with the symbol λ as a logo on them. In the movie Cula has the same earphones except there's a bat silhouette as a logo.
7. Timeline Mismatch
Tumblr media
Some people assume that the movie takes place somewhere in or after the season 2 since Cula has a photo with the moon that he got in the ep. 7 of the season 2. First of all, what was the necessity for the creators to change the other two photos? Could it be another hint that what we see in the movie is similar to the show but not entirely the same? Second of all, in the end of the movie Cula has learnt to appreciate his friends but in the season 2 he didn't even take the first steps on this path. He got major character improvement in season 3 but by that time Kebi had already grown strong feelings for Zizi, and I don't think he would fight her for a candy as he did in the movie. It means that either the series should be in a different chronological order (and some of them really should) or the movie has its own timeline independent of the show.
8. Age Difference
OMG this one is so obvious I forgot to mention it, lol! But I think by now everyone know that Spookiz are 9-10 y.o. in the series. I'm pretty sure I saw information that Cula was 11 but i can't remember where i saw it. Anyway, in the movie Cula states that he is 109 y.o. and this is a strong proof that the movie is another universe different from the series.
Thus, there are lots of differences between the series and the movie. Some of them can be explained by the difference in genre and by a new plot. But most of them are details that weren't necessary unless the creators wanted to make a new universe on purpose. A universe where Cula is not an irritable and mischievous gloater but a slightly anxious nerd. Still narcissistic as always.

DuckTales 2017 - The Shorts!
Tumblr media
Finally, I decided to talk about these.
PPG 2016 isn't the only reboot to have net-exclusive shorts, as Disney's YouTube channel had several DuckTales shorts across its first season.
Welcome to Duckberg!
A few months before the premiere of DuckTales 2017, Disney released these shorts to introduce everyone to the citizens of Duckberg. Namely, it focuses on the inhabits of the McDuck Manor. Most of these are just one joke premises, which is fitting because they aren't even a minute long.
Tumblr media
For example, here's one where Webby is sneaking around in a dark place, aiming for some sort of ancient artifact with her various gadgets. This was online before the very first episode, so this is actually our first look at the new Webby. No longer is she just the "little girl" of the group; she seems to be a spy in training with her night vision goggles, her glowstick, and her grappling hook!
This ancient artifact turns out to be a cookie jar, and the only cookie left is one of the common yuck cookies: oatmeal raisin. Hey, I'd eat it. Dewey shows up specifically to tell Webby that he's eating the last chocolate chip. That's kind of mean.
Tumblr media
Then this happens. Yeah, that doesn't look like anger, it looks more like demonic possession. There's a similar short with the new Mrs. Beakley, where she easily takes care of a ghost that the boys were struggling with. It makes sense, as these characters have huge changes from the classic DuckTales. They might as well show them off.
Tumblr media
There's a Huey short, featuring a character that looks a lot like the Tenderfeet. Thankfully, he doesn't talk or do any "devil in plain sight" gags, he's just here to show off that Huey is the one that reads that Junior Woodchuck Guidebook the most. Definitely his best performance, but that isn't saying a lot.
There's no real Dewey-focused short beyond his appearance in the Webby short. There is kind of a Louie short, involving a "time machine" that, oddly enough, works exactly like the time machine in that one episode of the other reboot. Thankfully, this reboot only made it a minute long short, and it works okay.
Tumblr media
The biggest highlight is this short with Launchpad McQuack, and it's completely fitting of his character. I don't even want to talk about it; it would ruin the magic of watching the actual short.
Tumblr media
There's also one for Donald Duck's years-not-shown birthday, which oddly wasn't included in the compilation. This is a shame, because it's a decent joke. Again, it's just the one, and it's not as good as the Launchpad one. Then again, very few things are.
The next series of shorts is a lot more interesting, as they all fit together into one short, released in minute-long chunks throughout a month. Fittingly enough, it happens to be called...
The World’s Longest Deathtrap!
Tumblr media
The episode begins with Webby landing in the titular deathtrap, with Dewey. I guess they felt sorry that he didn't get a short of his own, since we get a lot more Dewey here.
Unfortunately, due to Dewey not being too bright, he presses a button that causes the deathtrap to activate, causing the walls to very slowly close in on them. Webby theorizes that this deathtrap has aged very poorly over the centuries it existed.
Tumblr media
When I saw these pop up on YouTube, I was thinking this was just a joke video with nothing really happening. This couldn't be further from the truth. One part is pretty much entirely "Launchpad doesn't know how to rescue people from a hole", and it's absolutely hilarious.
Tumblr media
Eventually, everyone except for Scrooge, who is absent entirely from these series of shorts, ends up in the deathtrap. They keep unintentionally activating even more traps, before Huey drops in and tries to use his Junior Woodchuck Guidebook to help out. In a way, it worked. How? Watch to find out.
I would not be surprised if this short started out as either a scene in an episode or a whole episode in itself, but they either felt it was too throwaway, or that they ran out of ideas. It's a good watch.
Dewey Dew-Night!
Tumblr media
Aw, yeah. The talk show introduced in Day of the Only Child gets its first big expansion here. The main plot is that Dewey wants his talk show to become popular on the internet, so he tries his best to get the best guests, the best sketches, and the best Dewey he can muster to get those sweet sweet thumbs ups. It's just as funny as it was in Day of the Only Child, though I do wish those cardboard cutouts returned.
The first short focuses on Webby. It's sort of funny in that everything is just awkward, as if he's making this all up as he goes along. Fitting!

They're still trying to make Manny the Headless Horse a thing. Maybe there's some people who really like him, but I found him more of an "eh" character. Dewey doesn't seem to like him either; his original guest was supposed to be Scrooge McDuck. Unfortunately, he decided Dewey Dew-Night was well below him, much to Dewey's derision. Whether it was unfortunate for Dewey or Scrooge is pretty obvious.

He even tries to do segments, like "Will It Crash?", an parody of "Will It Blend?" Dewey apparently never realized that ship has sailed almost a decade ago, even if Launchpad is the highlight of all of these shorts. That is an accomplishment, actually, this series and the deathtrap one could work as B-plots.

Unfortunately, none of this seems to get him the audience he so desperately craves. He even keeps pointing towards his likes and dislikes, which eventually skews slightly towards the latter. He seems to blame his audience for this, but he understands. He decides to try to go on a unicycle and jump over a cat. A real cat, by the way; I can’t help but notice when they use non-anthropomorphic animals.

Unfortunately, any attempt to actually finish this stunt was ruined because the rest of the boys were tired. There is a hidden joke here, where Dewey thinks that because it's a late night talk show, it's supposed to be filmed at night, too. If only he knew.
Oh, and there's this really good running gag with Glomgold throughout this entire series of shorts.
Dewey: Apologies to Flintheart Glomgold, who had to be bumped.
Glomgold: (off-screen) WHAT?!
I like how it is implied that Glomgold successfully infiltrated the McDuck Mansion, but just can't wait to be on this completely legitimate talk show. Best of all, it has an actual payoff. All in all, a great way to use the format.
There are a few other shorts, but there's not much to say about them. There's Webby Reacts, a series where Webby Vanderquack does an in-character reaction to various Disney Channel programs. It did remind me of the very short lived revival of Beavis and Butt-Head, where they had segments where they talked over MTV's other programming.

The other is DuckFAILS, which is just the nephews, the honorary niece, and Launchpad failing to do things in glorious stop motion. I guess Scrooge McDuck had a "no failing" clause. I can't insult the amount of time it would take to make these, and this seems like something that would be fun to see between shows.
I'm sad that they didn't do anything like this to tide us over during this current hiatus...but I guess that's what I'm doing, at least.
