Timber Frame Golf Clubhouse
Tumblr media
For this project the timber frame structure was cut and prepared off site, delivered to Mendham Golf and Tennis Club and erected in place.
Tumblr media
The timbers are Douglas Fir sourced from the Pacific Northwest, providing rapidly renewable material which grows tall and true. All the timber posts and beams, as well as the tongue-and-groove decking, are structural. This allows for large clear spans which result in a very grand, tall and open space.

The Life & Works | Edward Burne-Jones (1833—1898)
Series: "More True than Real"
I look into the white fog of a morning, from that day in the frigid season when the only life are animals crazed & enchanted.
Weaving in & out of the countless ages, sometimes hidden & the others cruel. Edward Coley Burne Jones was born in Birmingham on 28th of August 1833 as the only surviving child.
His father Edward Richard Jones was born in London but settled in his wife’s city.
Edward Richard was a framer & gilder in a business he founded which at best reached moderate success.
Edward lived with his father in a shared bedroom above the shop. The view from out the window was of the timber yard where the raw wood for the frames was kept.
Every Sunday after an Evangelical sermon with other tradesman at St Mary’s Whitall Street they went to visit Mrs. Jones’ grave.
The young Edward—or Ned as he was called throughout his life, would be frightened to see his widowed father cry.
On holidays they would also visit the Churchyard, where on one occasion his father gripped his hand so hard he cried out in pain.
“Oh what a sad little home ours was,” Ned later wrote.
His father was a sober and thrifty hard worker, but lacked any kind of confidence. Ned spent his childhood wearing the clothing made from left over fabric of his father’s suits.
Ned’s caretaker after his mother’s death was Miss Sampson.
………………………………………………………………… One description of her was “uneducated, with strong feelings & instincts.” She stayed in the household for the rest of her life to watch after the pale, delicate, & unassertive child. …………………………………………………………………
She acted as a grounding force for Ned’s imagination & was also devoutly religious. On one occasion after Ned built a model city from small stones she remarked to him
“you must not call it Jerusalem, Edward”.
1.] Transition to Art
When she would ask what he was thinking about, the child would always react with the dismissive answer of “camels..” A friend of Mr Jones,’ a Mr Caswell, liked to buy old pictures that were left for framing & touch them up in his free time.
The retired man & amateur painter taught the young Ned to draw. The deeply introverted child liked to draw pictures of demons, & many times Ned suffered from bad dreams waking to the anxious face of Miss Sampson bending over him.
Ned later remarked that his imagination was “his private torment,”
But also summarized his childhood as “Unmothered, with a sad papa, without sister or brother, always alone, [yet] I was never unhappy because I was always drawing.”
1.1] Hardships/Persecution in School
At the age of 11 Ned was enrolled at the King Edward’s School, Birmingham. Notoriously strict & old-established, corporal punishment was used in neo-Gothic buildings.
The headmaster’s motto was “The Trumpet of Judgement shall sound”
One instance at the school, Ned in his own words: “Found something warm on my leg & putting my hand there found it was blood”.
He had inexplicably been stabbed in the groin during the morning prayers. Despite the bullying from students and teachers alike, Ned excelled in his studies.
His father permitted the extra expense to have a candle burn until 2am—so even homework was considered an extravagance.
“I’m wretched...miserable”. Ned wrote back home.
In January 1854, Ned arrived at Exeter college in Oxford but there was still no room for him. The provincial fresh- man took his meals & slept in someone else’s study.
1.2] An Unlikely Friendship
However there was another student who seemed as disappointed with Exeter as Ned. The thickset young man with dark curly hair—wearing a velveteen jacket was William Morris.
The two with opposite backgrounds, opposite physical builds, & opposite personalities became close friends instantly.
   •  Ned was tall & thin, reserved & gentle.    •  Morris was stout, bold & impatient, & came       from a family comfortably off.
They both had life-long bouts of melancholy, & it was in this gloom as new students that the two expressed their
disillusionment in “angry walks.”
Finding mutual inspiration in medievalism, the two indul- ged in chivalric ideals. Morris was given a suit of armor at the age of seven & was already an expert in details of me- dieval architecture as if he had “been born knowing them”.
Ned was particularly interested in the romance literature of the Middle Ages, with the appeal to the ethereal, mys- terious, & occult.
………………………………………………………………… Through the Oxford neighborhoods of old wooden houses with pastoral meadows on the outskirts, the two railed aga- inst the moral decline & industrialization of modern society. …………………………………………………………………
1.3] The Brotherhood
In October both were now able to get rooms on campus.
Once settled, Morris began the lifelong habit of reading aloud to his friend. After a session of Shakespeare, Morris began to read a transcript from their professor John Ruskin.
It was then they first learned about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood & heard the name Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
With John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt & other like minded artists, Rossetti founded the Brotherhood six years earlier in 1848.
Rejecting academic subjects & methods of painting, the Brotherhood were inspired by the poetry of Tennyson & Keats, & focused on romantic medieval themes.
After noting the similarities with their own interests, the two sought the work from this group, their first example being Millais’ Return of the Dove to the Ark.
Burne-Jones later commented: “I saw that the Pre-Raphaelites had indeed come  at a time when there was need for them”.
………………………………………………………………… Next, Ned travelled to the Royal Academy in London to see Holman Hunt’s work The Awakening Conscience & The Light of the World. …………………………………………………………………
Back at Oxford, Ned wrote a letter to his father expressing his new motivating force “...all by the river’s side I came back in a delirium of joy, the land was so enchanted with bright colours, blue & purple in the sky, shot over with a dust of golden shower, & in the water, a mirror’d counter- part, ruffled by a light west wind—and in my mind pictures of the old days, the abbey, the long crosiers, gay knights and ladies by the river bank, hawking parties and all the pageantry of the golden age
—it made me feel so wild & mad I had to throw stones in to the water to break the dream[s] so vivid that they seem recollections rather than imaginings...”
………………………………………………………………… Ned broke the disturbing news to his father in person while visiting him back in Birmingham for Christmas 1855. …………………………………………………………………
2.] Point of No Return
He decided not to make a profession in the Church, & though he would later return, he was no longer serious about studying at Oxford.
Morris on the other hand had earned a degree & took a job as an architect. In this changing atmosphere Ned summarized his life in writing “I was two & twenty, & had never met, or even seen, a painter in my life.
I knew no one who had even seen one, or had been in a studio, and of all men who lived on Earth, the one I wanted to see was Rossetti.”
Professor Ruskin encouraged the aspiring artist when Ned left for London. Rossetti was charitably teaching at the Working Men’s College, a community college whose aim was to teach skills for lower class Londoners.
Knowing no one, Ned’s quiet nature aroused students to offer him comradery, including an introduction to Rossetti.
Dante Gabriel Rossetti invited him to his studio the next day at the Northwest corner of Blackfriars Bridge.
………………………………………………………………… Ignoring the strong smells from the river, Ned felt he was received courteously, & since no other guests came stay -ed for hours to watch Rossetti work not knowing that he particularly hated this. …………………………………………………………………
The original artists of the Pre Raphaelites had broken up years ago & Rossetti was open to the guest, later writing to a friend “a certain youthful Jones… the nicest young fellow in—dreamland”.
Though only six years older, Rossetti’s generosity and powers of encouragement — made this new teacher- student friendship fortunate for both sides.
2.1] What Are Friends For?
William Morris funded Ned’s move to London & commis- sioned Ned to buy paintings for him—but not consistently.
Ned recalls the first weeks in London being light-headed with hunger. He decided to ask a friend of his deceased mother for a loan of two pounds but was rejected with a note that she hoped his present situation will teach him in the future.
“I made up my mind” Ned recalls “that nothing        should ever induce me to ask anyone for        money again.”
………………………………………………………………… Though Rossetti was also ’tinless’ or broke, he was still generous. One occasion unbeknownst to Ned, Rossetti paid a woman to cling onto the timid young man walking home with him to his cheap apartment on Sloane street. …………………………………………………………………
“She wouldn’t go” Ned recalls lovingly.
It was at this time Ned discovered Malory's Morte d’Arthur.
He couldn’t afford to buy the book originally published in 1485, so he read it standing just a little everyday, buying cheap books to pacify the bookseller.
When his friend Morris heard of this, he bought the copy at once & lent it to his friend. The effect of the book on Burne-Jones was described as
      “...literately a part of himself.
Its strength & beauty, its mystical religion & noble chivalry of action, the world of lost history & romance in the names of people & places—it was his own birthright upon which he entered.”
2.2] Wife
………………………………………………………………… This quote describing Ned’s affinity with the Arthurian leg -end was made by his future wife Georgiana Macdonald. …………………………………………………………………
By some accounts Ned proposed to the 16-year-old Ge -orgiana, known to everyone as Georgie, while standing in front of Arthur Hughes’ painting April Love—which Burne-Jones was commissioned to purchase on Morris’ behalf in 1856.
A biographer describes Georgie at this time as “doll like in size, but with a modest dignity, ready for everything, & with a look as though she were about to swallow life like a plum & was not quite sure if she approved of it.”
When Ned spoke to Georgie’s father about the marriage — the young man was not asked about his prospects, a very concerning sign, but instead was accepted by the Methodist Minister solely by consideration of his character.
The two married on June 9th 1860.
3.] Life’s Work
At this time Burne-Jones was finishing sketches with pen-and-ink, partly because of the cost for oil paints & because the smell of turpentine made him sick.
The subject matter, the tone, & the attention to detail are all life long characteristics of Burne-Jones’ work that seemed to have appeared suddenly in 1856.
Though Ned’s patient labor is seen with these detailed works created in sleepless lamp lit nights, the practical requirement for an income could not be ignored.
Rossetti aided his early commissions in stained glass design. Starting with a Church in Maidstone, followed by his St. Frideswide for Christ Church back in Oxford.
Stained glass design was to be Ned’s main source of income in these early years.
Edward Burne-Jones’ first paintings were commissioned by Thomas Edward Plint, Leeds stockbroker who turned out to be more passionate & adventurous as an early patron to the Pre-Raphaelites then what was best for him.
………………………………………………………………… Plint died at the young age of 38, financial ruined, but in possession of more English masterpieces than some of the most respectable art collectors. …………………………………………………………………
3.1] Innovation with Watercolour
The Blessed Damozel was painted using an innovative medium by Burne-Jones: watercolor pigments thicken'd to a similar consistency of oil paints.
The subject was chosen by Ned based on a poem Rossetti wrote during his teenage years in 1847.
The Blessed Damozel leaned out from the gold bar of Heaven; her eyes were deeper than the depth of water stilled at even; she had three lilies in her hand, and the stars in her hair were seven.
In late 1856 William Morris & Ned took lodgings in Bloomsbury neighborhood at the advice of Rossetti.
At 17 Red Lion Square the two met the original founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. High strung emotional nature of Millais was in tune with sensitive Ned, & Holman Hunt’s properness had a respect for the politeness of the apprentice painter.
Holman Hunt writing about Ned that his “modest bearing & enthusiasm at once charmed.” The relationship between Morris & Rossetti however had a hint of uneasiness.
………………………………………………………………… Morris buying & commissioning some of his work, Rossetti could never have the same rapport with Morris as he did with Ned, his fellow impoverished painter. …………………………………………………………………
The household also had a housekeeper known as Red Lion Mary. Her “unfailing good temper” had given up trying to keep the damp & squalid lodgings clean—but rather kept with odd tasks like reading to Ned as he painted, sewing for Morris, & cooking for guests like Georgie’s little sister—the ten-year-old insisting to give a blessing before the first bite of food.
3.2] Collaboration
When in 1857 Rossetti received the commission to dec- orate the debating hall of the Oxford Union with a series of murals, it was natural that Ned should be included.
Other artists were organized by Rossetti including Arthur Hughes, Spencer Stanhope, & Val Prinsep.
The work entailed working on what was called a fresco, but was actually painting direct on to the brick walls.
The cost of supplies would be covered by the commission as would half of the artists’ lodgings while they stayed in Oxford. Though most of the artists were young & eager to prove themselves, there was very little experience among the group with painting murals & the work turned out to be unfinished.
Rossetti was relieved to be called away from the mural to aid his seriously ill fiancé in London & eventually the entire work from the group was painted over by undergraduates.
Ned’s work was unsatisfactory but he was one of the last to stay to finish the space that he was assigned.
Spencer Stanhope remarked
“...he never appeared to leave his picture as long as       he thought he could improve it.” The experience Ned       learned in technique was lasting as were the friend       ships that were honed during what was called by       the group an extended vacation.
3.3] Pregnancies
One relationship was with Jane Burden who became the most painted of all the Pre-Raphaelite women.
William Morris fell in love with the model and the two event- ually married. Georgie Burne-Jones & Jane Morris soon be- came pregnant.
Rossetti’s fiancé Elizabeth Siddal gave birth to a stillborn baby, & she herself overdosed on laudanum a few months later.
………………………………………………………………… Rossetti become more and more reclusive after these traumas & though they continued to meet occasionally —he gradually faded from Burne-Jones’ life. …………………………………………………………………
4.] Critical Acclaim
William Morris founded a company in 1861: Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.
Creating furniture, pottery, tiles, textiles & stained glass the company dedicated to design & decoration was highly successful & provided commissions for artists including the cash strapped Burne-Jones.
Ned continued to paint creating two companion pictures Sidonia von Bork & Clara von Bork.
Based on the novel about a 17th century sorceress, the book was first translated to English by Oscar Wilde’s mother in 1849 & was pushed by Rossetti as a required read for all his friends.
Accompanying John Ruskin, Ned took a conservation trip to Italy to copy paintings that were threatened by decay.
On his return he was elected as an Associate of the Old Water-Colour Society. Protecting artistic integrity & tradition, the exclusive & narrow group accepted the self-taught artist cooly based on Ruskin’s insistence.
………………………………………………………………… Though Burne-Jones got terribly sick on trains & was completely flattened by a cold, the continual opposition & subtle insults by the older members of the society only strengthened his resolve. …………………………………………………………………
On exhibition day for the group, Ned’s work was hung poorly and criticized.
The Merciful Knight, a painting based on a story from one of Ned’s favorite books: The Broadstone of Honor, was not spared the insults.
“Papistical” spoken openly within the creator’s earshot.
The Art Journal wrote scornfully about The Annunciation “we know not what spectacles he can have put on to gain a vision so astonishing” & also added the picture struck a “distinctly discordant note.”
But Ned made some valuable allies.
“We had a glimpse into a twilight world of dark mysterious woodlands, haunted streams, meads of dark green starred with burning flowers, veiled in a dim & mystic light…” wrote the painter Walter Crane.
Ned’s “Spirit of other-worldliness” gained patrons of the highest ilk, the magnate Frederick Leyland, the Liberal MP for Glasgow, William Graham, & George Howard, later Earl of Carlisle.
Burne-Jones painted his first version of Green Summer at Morris’ Red House in Kent, a popular retreat for his circle of friends & associates of Morris’ now booming firm.
Ned designed the stain glass for important commissions including the dining room at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
4.1] Family Comes First
………………………………………………………………… But the big news in Ned’s life at this time was not in his career but his family: In June 1866, Margaret, their 2nd child was born. …………………………………………………………………
Ned adored the plump baby at first calling her “Fatima”.
The girl could charm without effort as opposed to her five -year-old brother Philip who had seemingly inherited his father’s nervous disposition.
Just three months before Margaret was born, the ceiling collapsed on the Burne-Jones’ residence—a run-down mansion in the countryside called the Grange.
The painter Ford Madox Brown who was a guest at a party writes: “The house, being newly decorated in the ‘Firm’ taste, looked charming, the women looked lovely & the singing was unrivalled,
& we all luckily escaped with our lives, for soon after the guests were gone, the ceiling of the studio [about 700 lbs of plaster] came down just where the thickest of the gath -ering had been all night.”
4.2] Artist’s Muse: Maria Zambaco
………………………………………………………………… It’s not known whether Maria Zambaco was at the party, a daughter of wealthy Greek patrons, but she was to become in the next few years a center piece for Ned’s life & work. …………………………………………………………………
More than a sitter & more than a model, Maria became his ultimate inspiration & an intense affair began.
Ned spent the beginning of 1868 escaping his domestic situation & regrettably a note in the Burne-Jones ledger shows a workman was paid to fix Margaret’s cradle —but the account was not in Ned’s handwriting.
Even Georgie, who’s role hereto included being nurse to her sickness-prone husband, could not endure the marital strain & eventually took the children & left for Oxford.
When Ned tried to break it off with Maria Zambaco, the mistress threatened suicide.
Rossetti writes of the ugly scene:
“She provided herself Laudanum for at least two       ...she tried to drown herself in the water...bobbies       collaring Ned who was rolling with her on the       stones to prevent it…”
In an interesting side note Morris grew a strong       sympathy for Georgie & her terrible situation.
Apparently the two exchanged many letters, but Georgie ended up destroying them. “Tell me what I have done but to love unwisely?” was an epigraph Ned gave the painting Phyllis & Demophoon which he showed at the Old Water-Colour Society in 1870.
The subject is from Greek mythology:
Phyllis, deserted by her lover Demophoon,       dies of grief & is turned into an almond tree       by the gods.
Demophoon returns & embraces the tree, which blossoms & Phyllis comes to life again.” The work was blasted by critics, associates within the society, & even Ned’s friends.
………………………………………………………………… The painting was taken off the wall after two weeks apparently due to the male nudity, but it’s speculated the real reason was because of the uncomfortable similarity of the story the painting represents, & Burne-Jones’ adulteress situation with Zambaco. …………………………………………………………………
Ned heard with distress Ruskin’s attack on       Michelangelo’s “dark carnality” which       substitutes “the flesh of man for the spirit”.
Ned writes “He read it to me just after he had written it, and as I went home I wanted to drown myself in the Surrey Canal…”
Ned was certain Ruskin’s attack was actually a reproof of his own life through the Michelangelo-esque painting of Demophoon.
5.] Resignation
The president of OWS insensitively asked Ned to choose what other artist should replace the now empty space on the wall, & Ned responded by resigning from the Society.
Despite the career risk of slipping into obscurity by with -drawing from his only method of showcasing, Burne- Jones kept many friends throughout the seventies.
………………………………………………………………… Ned gained an admiration for theater & was friends with actress Ellen Terry, the playwright Oscar Wilde, & was close with fellow painter “Tad”, Lawrence Alma-Tadema. …………………………………………………………………
He also gained the patronage of the family of Prime Minister William Gladstone, & Arthur Balfour comm- issioned Ned to create the Perseus series for his music room.
In 1877 Ned was persuaded to exhibit for the newly opened Grosvenor Gallery. Ned displayed The Beguiling of Merlin which he had first started four years earlier.
The painting shows the Arthurian story of Merlin being trapped in a Hawthorne bush as the Lady of the Lake, Nimue reads from a Book of spells.
Oscar Wilde remarked of the painting:
“[the] colour is no mere delight in the qualities       of natural things...but expressive of the SPIRIT.”
5.1] Libel Lawsuit
However, for once Burne-Jones’ work was not       the centerpiece for critics. The range of artists       displayed at the Grosvenor Gallery opening       was varied & included pioneer James Whistler.
Nocturne in Black & Gold—The Falling Rocket was severely criticized by John Ruskin, accusing Whistler of “flinging a pot of paint in the public’s face”.
Ruskin’s opinions—which some viewed as       increasingly tyrannical—was brought to       court by Whistler in a famous libel case.
Ruskin called on his friend to back his criticisms, & Ned was equally as harsh as Ruskin in his written deposition.
However the deposition was written ten years to the day when Whistler got into an argument and struck painter Alphonse Legros—whom Ned greatly admired.
………………………………………………………………… When Ned appeared in the witness box, his opinion softened concluding that Whistler’s work had “almost unrivalled sense of atmosphere” but was not equal to the value he was charging to purchase the painting. …………………………………………………………………
Whistler eventually won the case with the famous reply of how long it took to complete the painting:
“The labour of two days, is that for which you ask         for two hundred guineas!” “No; I ask it for the         knowledge of a lifetime.”
Ned’s loyalty to his friends was admirable, but his own experience with critics should have placed him on the side of the artist.
The publicity of the Grosvenor Gallery elevated Edward Burne-Jones to a household name. In the next annual gallery Ned exhibited Chant d’Amour & Laus Veneris.
In 1880 Ned completed The Golden Stairs.
F.G. Stephens writes
“[passing] like spirits in an enchanted dream,       each moving gracefully, freely, & in unison with       her neighbours… what is the place they have       left, why they pass before us thus, whither they       go, who they are, there is nothing to tell.”
………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………… In 1884 Ned completed King Cophetua & the Beggar Maid an Elizabethan ballad in which a King searches for a pure wife & once finding her, offers his crown in return for the love of the ragged beggar girl. ………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………
5.2] Obssession with the Sea
Burne-Jones was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1885 but Ned only exhibited a single work in the society The Depths of the Sea.
After being lent a large water tank by Henry Holiday, the work was the result of experiments with light reflecting under water.
The poet Gerard Manley Hopkins writes:
“You speak of powerful drawing in Burne-Jones’       picture, I recognize it in that mermaid’s face & in       the treatment of her fishments & fishermanship,
the tailfin turning short & flattening to save       striking the ground—the stroke of truly       artistic genius.” Drowning a young man the       femme fatale was not new to Burne-Jones       & the Pre-Raphaelites, but the motif of       mermaids was.
Ned’s interest in sea lore developed after his acquisition of the seaside home in Rottingdean, Prospect House.
There he had the space to work on extra large canvases including the vast 21 foot long The Last Sleep of Arthur.
Having only exhibited the one time at the Royal Academy, Burne-Jones resigned a few years later.
With Watts & Alma-Tadema he became one of the principal exhibitors at the New Gallery opened in May 1888.
………………………………………………………………… The New Gallery was Ned’s main place of exhibition for the rest of his life & helped to ease his misery of departing with his beloved daughter Margaret. …………………………………………………………………
A moonstone Ned gifted to Margaret earlier was not effective “[so] that she might never know love, & stay with me”.
But she was to be given in marriage to classical scholar John W. Mackail. At the wedding ceremony Ned writes he only felt “stupid & dazed”.
In 1890 Ned finished The Briar Rose series based on the story of Sleeping Beauty as told by Charles Perrault.
6.] Family Acclaim
Margaret posed for the figure of Sleeping Beauty making the psychological link obvious.
To protect the princess’ virginal innocence Ned       requested example briars “as thick as a wrist &       with long, horrible spikes on it.”
The four paintings fetched 15,000 pounds in       1890, worth nearly $650,000 modern American       dollars—making the Briar Rose series the most       valuable work of the era.
However, even with the remarkable price tag as a show to the poor of East London, the works were displayed free of charge at Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel.
“We are accustomed to this evidence of       loving care in Mr. Burne-Jones’ pictures.
The world of dreams & fairies has surely never been so prodigally illustrated.” exclaimed the Times.
Edward Burne-Jones was offered a Baronetcy by Prime Minister Gladstone “in recognition of the high position which you have obtained by your achievement in your noble art”.
Ned was reserved at first in accepting the hereditary title, but Phil pressured his father to change his mind.
………………………………………………………………… Still with his success & his wealth, Ned stayed true to his roots of romance, kindness, & humor. An example being The Flower Book, a series of 38 small painting each inspired by the name of a flower. …………………………………………………………………
The work was not viewed by the public but was given as a gift to his wife Georgie, who posthumously published the paintings in 1905, seven years after the death of the great artist Edward Burne-Jones.

California is on Fire and now you have a Home built with Fire Resistant Eco Smart Panel.
SIDCO Homes Inc – A fire resistant home is on the market to mitigate global warming and climate change – Safe for people and the planet – Experience a home.
The fire in paradise touched my soul and raised the question that there must be a better way to build houses that would not catch fire when such a disaster occurs again.”
— Manmohan (Mohan) Mahal
SAN JOSE, California, USA, August 8, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — CNN host W. Kamau Bell presented a report titled “I Live in a Burning State.” This state of California. In this segment, he talked about the fire in the camp, which on November 18, 2018 burned Paradise City down to rubles in four hours. I was in the City in December 2018. I saw rows and rows of streets where there was nothing but the skeleton of a pipe, not a single house remained on the street. This sight touched my soul and made me think that there must be a better way to build houses that will not catch fire when a similar disaster occurs again. I’m starting to think about how we can build structures and homes that are fire resistant, save lives and protect property.
Watching the outcome of the heavenly fire, I clearly understand that the dry lumber in the structures was the fuel for the fire. The dry timber frame of the house was the perfect fuel to set the house on fire. Ambers jumped from building to building, got into the attic through ventilation holes and caused a fire in the attics. The environment was ideal for a firestorm, with dry weather, high temperatures, and ample fuel inside, as there were dry hills and bushes all around the house and outside. It was a hurricane that the firemen couldn’t stop. People ran out of their houses and got stuck in traffic jams. We lost 85 lives, mostly in houses and others while fleeing the city, more than 11,000 houses were burned to the ground, and we lost almost 19,000 structures.
My path to solving this fire problem began in Australia, which was still recovering from record-breaking wildfires two years ago that killed at least 33 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Here I studied the technology of building fire-resistant houses using (GFRG) fiberglass reinforced gypsum panels for the construction of structures. I visited the factory in India, but this solution was not practical for the US market. I learned from Steve Marskell about magnesium oxide panels that can also be used as a fire retardant material.
I was determined to solve this problem, I bought a lot from Hollister California, got a local Architect Symmetry Design Build to design a SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) structure using Eco Smart Magnesium Oxide panels. The manufacturer MGO Systems was based in Canada and we delivered our panels to the site in California. I used local contractor DH Construction who hired a team of Framers, an electrician, plumber and drywall workers from the city of Hollister to support the local community.
Today we have a finished house up for sale as the Fed raised interest rates by 0.75 points in the last week of July 2022. Mortgage rates are now below 5% and could rise soon as the labor market is in order. The Fed may have to control inflation by raising interest rates again. Come and see the house at 1039 El Cerro Drive, Hollister, Ca 95023 this week with your realtor or call Francine Terrell at 408-202-5875.
We invite you all to visit this beautifully built, energy efficient home that has received a 10/10 Home Energy Score from the US Department of Energy. Located in a quiet, peaceful village surrounded by foothills. An innovative home built with Eco-Smart SIP refractory materials that create a year-round comfortable living space with exceptional indoor air quality. High ceilings, bright spacious rooms, a luxurious master bedroom with dressing room, a kitchen for artists with stainless steel appliances. The house has plenty of storage space. The house is fully electric without any dependence on fossil fuels. Constructed from termite, mold and moisture resistant material. Other notable features include double-glazed Milgard windows, hybrid water heater, LED lighting, energy recovery fan, water-saving irrigation and landscaping, superior sound absorption, and state-of-the-art LiFi equipment. Great opportunity to own this incredible home!
Customers wishing to build with SIDCO-ESP panels can contact us for materials here in the Bay Area. SIDCO holds a patent for Eco Smart Panels for Energy Saving granted to Manmohan Mahal on April 20, 2021.
CNN Anchor W. Kamau Bell: I’d like you to elaborate on your story: “I live in a state that’s on fire.” this has inspired many entrepreneurs and builders to build fireproof houses. About half a dozen companies are working to solve the fire problem. SIDCO Homes Inc has also gone one step further to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change by not using burning gas in the home. The home will become Net Zero when the home buyer installs solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall. The house is cool due to the thickness of the walls and the tightness of less than 1 ACH50.
Here’s a demonstration of the fireproof panel to Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder. Come, experience and see the house on your own or with a realtor, as the house has a safe.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in such a well built home that could be the Tesla of the homes of the future. Good luck, go and experience it for yourself so your family can live or invest in it for the future. A great home to work from home as the home has a secure LiFi connection. SIDCO is building a passive house in the near future at 3561 ParK Blvd, Palo Alto, CA 94036.

It was January 2020, and in the past five months, I’d done nearly everything in my power to put my assigned gender behind me. I had come out as trans to my loved ones; I was getting divorced; I moved across the country to Portland, Oregon, which was once called a trans utopia on the Gender Reveal podcast (yes, I was listening to the podcasts as well). What I wasn’t, however, was out to my roommates, three cis men I’d met on Craigslist who all assumed I was a cis man like them.
I lived in the basement of a hulking wooden house owned by a wealthy couple who had moved back to Europe to take care of their elderly parents. My bedroom was an icy concrete box with a mattress on the floor. Every 45 minutes, an industrial dehumidifier would turn on and make a sound like a chainsaw halving a Buick. If a fire took over the house, I would have to crawl out a window too small to meet fire code. My roommates assured me I would be able to fit.
The roommates were generous men: They shared the beer in the fridge; they baked cookies at two in the morning; they held meetings to discuss the dust piling up in the house; they expressed their hurt confusion after friendships decayed. They were just the type of men I should have been able to come out to. But I was still trying to climb out of decades of quicksand-y shame. I had no close trans friends and had no idea yet how to be trans. What I knew was how to pretend to be a cis man. So I maintained this façade to avoid holding a difficult conversation with my roommates — I followed the path of the greatest emotional dissonance.
When my roommates were at work, I stayed in the basement trying on tights and blouses and dresses and skirts I’d bought online to prevent anyone from seeing me buy them. I practiced applying makeup from supermarket brands that were never the right shade for my pale skin. In my room, I focused on two things: finding my style and completing my novel. Dressed in black tights and a breezy forest-green skirt, I would sit at my desk revising The Atmospherians, my first novel, a satire about two best friends who start a cult to reform problematic men.
In a novel, there is nowhere for the subconscious to hide. And mine offered me a way work through decades of complicated feelings about people assuming I was a cis male. I was angry for lying to myself, and others, for so long. I was angry at the people who’d told me I wasn’t actually trans, that I was making it up — I feared they knew me better than I knew myself. And the easiest way to temper this anger was to direct it onto the men in my book. Every new draft failed to humanize the men who joined the cult. A teacher I trusted insisted I couldn’t reduce all the cult members to punchlines. This comment upset me — because it was right.
One evening, I emerged from the basement to find my timber framer roommate packing food into a cooler. He made a point of telling me he was happy to be missing work the following day. Where was he going? To a men’s retreat for the weekend, he told me. Ten minutes later, he’d emailed and texted me details for the next Men’s Open Circle meeting in Portland. I wasn’t the first of the roommates to receive an invitation to Men’s Open Circle — he’d been pressing the other two for months now — but I don’t doubt something about me appeared vulnerable that evening, in need of answers. My roommate wanted to help the only way he knew how: by inviting me to the very same group that helped him.
Since I committed to a writing career, a lot of my life has been spent doing things for the story. When I should be in the moment, I imagine how I will capture it later. I’m far from the first writer to feel this way. And in an era of social media, writers aren’t alone in catapulting themselves into futures sharing the moment. Where many writers differ, though, is that they believe themselves to be objective observers. Joan Didion, for instance, claimed her best skill as a reporter was going unnoticed. Inspired by Didion in Haight-Ashbury, I accepted my roommate’s invitation to Men’s Open Circle, looking forward to silently taking notes while seated beside him. Everyone would assume I was gaining so much from the meeting. They would take me for a diligent man eager to correct his emotions.
The Mankind Project, or MKP, is a “Global Brotherhood of Autonomous Nonprofit/Charitable Organizations.” According to my roommate, MKP helped men reclaim the rituals that have been stripped from modern life. These ideas are loosely based on Robert Bly’s early 1990s book Iron John: A Book About Men, which claims that boys couldn’t fully evolve into men without completing the ancient rituals once expected of them. Bly takes the name of his book from a Brother’s Grimm fairy tale about a boy who matures into adulthood thanks to the aid of a red-haired woodsman named Iron John. Iron John served as a guide for men who have lost touch with their warrior selves in an increasingly feminist age (the ’80s and ’90s), and Bly even led meetings in the woods where men could recapture their primal selves through drumming and chanting and, according to a 1992 New York Times article, gripe about their fallen status as men. What those rituals entail, in 2020, remains fairly mysterious to people who aren’t members of MKP. In 2018, the Times reported that the group’s weekend retreats, which are called the New Warrior Adventure Training and can set men back nearly $700, include cold showers, blindfoldings, and optional nudity to promote body positivity.
An hour before the Men’s Open Circle meeting, my roommate texted to tell me he couldn’t come. My impulse was to cancel. I’m a naturally shy person and hated the idea of introducing myself without the aid of my roommate’s institutional knowledge. But he insisted I go. If I went, he reasoned, I could tell the other two roommates  how great the meetings were. Naturally shy, yes, but even more naturally susceptible to a guilt trip.
I arrived at the stone Episcopal church where the meeting was held feeling prematurely superior to the men who would be there. They gathered in a dimly lit rec room the color of Brut aftershave and were circled up in folding chairs. They had the nervous energy of the perpetually repressed. I believed I didn’t belong in the room, both for the obvious reason (I was trans) and the conceited reason — as an evolved millennial, I already knew how to get in touch with my feelings. But because I didn’t belong in the room made me the most important person there: I could see this place for what it was.
The group leader, who I’ll call Dave, was a 60-something white man wearing a button-down tucked in jeans. He outlined how tonight’s meeting would go. Repeatedly, he used the word men when a simple we or us or you would have worked. “A lot of people say men are always talking, that men never listen to anyone,” Dave said, when introducing our first activity. “But my question for you men is: Does anyone ever listen to men?” Tonight, men would practice hearing other men talk. We split into groups of three. Dave set a timer. One man in each group would talk for five minutes. Afterward, the other men would respond for three minutes. Then the next man would talk.
Here’s the thing: I very much belonged in the room. Five months earlier, I changed just about everything in my life, and though I spoke to a therapist over the phone every two weeks, she wasn’t the right person for me. I was suicidal and lonely and regretting every decision I’d ever made in my life. I was on a waitlist for a trans-inclusive support group, but my name didn’t appear to be moving up on it. These men were my best shot at community.
In my small group, I talked about my divorce and my regrets. In a larger group, I talked about the same subjects. And finally, when all the men came together to share, I volunteered first to tell my story — part of my story, that is. Looking back, perhaps I should have had reservations in a room full of cis men. Men’s groups like MKP have been criticized for placing men in counseling roles with little training. Though MKP insists it is not an adequate substitute for professional help, sessions are rife with expert-sounding advice. Nothing in the room could’ve been mistaken for a 4Chan thread — at least not in Portland in 2020 — but most speakers went unchallenged for their portrayals of women. MKP professes to push men to evolve in ways that serve men, women, and children; however, these groups are still run by men, men with all their baggage and acculturation and gazes. Just because a man is in touch with his emotions does not mean the way he acts on his emotions are appropriate. Anger, after all, is an emotion, as is rage, as is resentment, and all three drive so much of the violence perpetrated by men across the world. Articulation does not guarantee evolution — especially without an effective strategy to push men to reconsider the role their feelings have played in committing harms against others. MKP’s strategy, however, is mostly to let the men speak and vent and gripe and confess and learn to sit with their feelings.
My sharing was met with support and solidarity. The other men had been through similar experiences, and their stories layered Band-Aids over the gaping emotional wound I was eager to heal. I was told I was young. I was learning. Better to get these mistakes out of my system now. As the men consoled me, I felt an urge to come out to them, to let them know there were other reasons why I moved to Portland — trans utopia, remember? There was so much they needed to know that I would never say. If I told them the truth, would they still see themselves in my story? Like a good MKP man, I decided to sit with these feelings.
Here’s the obvious lesson that wasn’t so obvious to me: I was not above these men. I was not more evolved because I had read Judith Butler. I was just as hungry for their support as they were for mine. The advice they offered was flawed and reductive, but it was what I needed to hear: I would be okay, I was learning, I was still alive. If this sounds like an empathy essay, one of those pieces about putting our differences behind us, it isn’t. I didn’t like the men. I didn’t like how they talked about women. And I never learned what they thought about trans people. I didn’t see them or connect with them. But on a January evening, I needed them, far more than they needed me, and I’m grateful they were willing to listen.
At the end of the meeting, Dave collected five-dollar bills from the men. The men who only had twenties accepted Venmo payments from the men who didn’t have cash. One man asked me if I planned to return to Men’s Open Circle next week. “Maybe,” I told him. The next week, I moved home to New Jersey.
Did a TIM just admit that sex based support groups are beneficial? Who else could benefit from sex based support groups? And just as snarky his exploring femininity was trying on tight clothes and supermarket makeup.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC
Red Dead Redemption2 PC
The old west feels brand new again.
Oh Jesus Christ, what have you done? “Thomaschen 978 wants to know why a dozen carcasses and a couple of horse corpses are placed on rail tracks bordering the early industrial city and are the New Orleans stand-in St. Denis.” You killed half. village.” PC Games For Free
We are on round two of the recurring corpse pile. My poses got the idea to jump in front of the train after a few rounds of Lose Your Friends and Toss Them in the Sea in the Couple Friendly Strangers. Like GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 has its own bowling minima, we explain to Chen in a roundabout way that provokes his fear. Die in the shared open world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and you’ll react fast enough to move your corpse around. Best RPGs games pc
The boy is in line with us. We should make it bigger. As the train comes around again, another pose tries to take us out. The chain defends us but does not bring it back to the tracks. He goes away screaming. Death of a true warrior.
Red Dead Redemption 2 could be the biggest, most humble videogame ball pit for an annoying story about impulsive children, the forced disintegration of the community, or simply a quiet and reflective hiking simulator. It’s just about what you need it to be, and it’s good at it.
Just hours before the corpse-bowling, I was alone through the icy forests, stepping into the long shadow cast across the snow by the rising moon. I heard a gunshot from a distance. The tracks of some wolves marked snow in the same direction. I saw them who won. Anytime I pay attention and look closely, RDR2 is the result of my curiosity. Best Racing games on pc
The mind-numbing expanse that makes up the vast world of RDR2 speaks to the creative force of a development team with an intense, obsessive dedication to realism (and all the money and time needed to do so). Like how my friends’ characters flare up when I fire a gun at them, how animal carcasses disintegrate over time, how NPCs react according to a sloppy or bloody outfit, how to stir through a doorway. Scares everyone everywhere.
It is hard to believe that RDR2 is so deep and wide and is also a harmonious, playable thing. I was already playing it for days worth the console version. This is why I am particularly disappointed that it ended up on the PC to some extent.
For every non-taught multiplayer adventure, disconnect or crash on the desktop, desktop. The rock star’s best storyline and character so far has been filmed through Frame Hutches’ slideshow and addressed over the launch weekend.
RDR2, one of the best Western games and one of the best open-world games I have ever released with enough stability issues, is recommended for the hard way until everything is completely smooth.
Morgan trail
EVERY PRETTY VISTA IS SOMETHING TO LOSE THROUGH ARTHUR’S EYES.
The story genre of Red Dead Redemption 2 follows the dying days of the Wild West. The sprawling industrial world faced the bandits and social downtrodden of Arthur Morgan’s small band, an imperfect but loyal, loving and self-reliant community.
Capitalism is reducing its value as resources to humans. Indigenous USA America is driven from the plains to make way for ‘civilization’ and commerce. The forests are brought down for timber, the hills are cut down for coal, and Morgan’s chosen family is caught in the middle, forced to flee, assimilate, or respond with violent protests is done. They do all three.
This is Rockstar’s most serious drama, and it’s really, really long. If you are running, the story ends after 40 to 50 hours and then continues for 10 to 15. The main story missions of Red Dead 2 feature distinctly rockstar fare: ride to a destination that is talking to everyone, tightly scripting though, entertaining things, riding, and chatting to the final destination.
Missions are often thrilling action sequences or artificially mundane pictures of wrench labor and trade, full of long-winded Bespoke animations, and outstanding performances. They are only hopelessly harsh, to the point where it feels like I am following the stage directions rather than playing the role of a vagabond in the Old West.
Step out of line in these campaigns and this is a failed situation. As opposed to Red Dead Online, there are very few of them that encourage players to think for themselves, each designed to advance the story. The RDR2 show is at least a spectacle of the slow pace of life in the Old West.
This is not the death and theatricality of a lifetime; My favorite missions include shoveling, drinking wine with a friend, proposing an old romance and riding a hot air balloon. Working through a greater rut, stricter tasks are considered meaningful in the end anyway, inspired by extraordinary, ambient world-building and characterization.
Side missions, minigames, small activities, and random world events — whether they hunt great guns, capture a play, or stumble upon a woman trapped under a horse — all set Arthur’s character and setting in subtle, rich ways. Please inform.
Nested in the third act of a fully animated and voice theatrical performance, something like 10 minutes, it is possible that the response button is pressed after an artist has included a telephone. Arthur would shout, “Hell with the telephone!” It is an optional activity, a long one, and an option is to react in that short window. I think most players will remember this, but this is Canad Response 1 through 3 because this is something Arthur would say, a rageless goofy set his way in the right way.
He would write complete, real diary entries about the 50-hour campaign, sketching memorable scenes and depicting the state of affairs of his chosen family, which people once knew changed their fortunes between hope and despair. It is meant to be a completely alternative reading, but a refreshingly intimate take on a masculine figure that unsettles many doubts and hopes as to the next person.
He sings himself on a lonely ride and lowers his old body in the mirror. He will have an exciting conversation with the horseshoe woman as he gives her a ride into town, both commenting on the troubles of working for wealthy, ungrateful men as a growing necessity. I feel it all. Best horror games on pc free
Hillbillies can capture him after making the camp, a couple may try to rob him after inviting him to dinner, a man with snakebite can come out of the forest by stumbling and tell him to suck venom is. These haphazard encounters portray brutal life on the fading frontier, as nature pushes back against inner poppers who want to change it. Arthur is the perfect vessel to see it
This is because Arthur Morgan is one of the darkest human characters I have played during a great turning point in American history, playing a playful, cruel and compassionate role according to differing theories.
The game world, beautiful as it is, is made more beautiful and tragic by how it is ready to play it on every occasion. Every beautiful vista has something to lose through Arthur’s eyes, power lines and train tracks, cut through the skies, and the rest of his life is slowly filling with factory smoke. Just about everyone sees a sad end in RDR2, too. This is a story that I might not sustain every moment, but I will not forget its brutal arc or the man in the middle of it all. God damn is it sad? An apocalypse that led to this.
Ren Der Reflection
Assuming that you are able to run it at high settings, the biggest strength of RDR2 is how it exquisitely renders the Old West setting on PC, drawing more attention to the nuanced details that make it. This is one of the best looking games I’ve seen and a rare experience that justifies a new GPU or CPU.
Better draw distance and a greater range of vegetation detail were added, making some vistas look photographic. Long shadows vary from walking or roaming between places to rides, to cute nature tours. Due to animal attacks, bullet holes, rain, mud, or rapid flow of blood, the markings on the clothes are caused by very high-resolution textures, which tell a very little story about your friends.
A new photo mode makes it easy to share those moments of amazement. The way the player rides on RDR2 for just sightseeing and sounds is an important feature. I am desperately trying to get an artistic portrait of my horse’s silhouette to sit against the moon, yet another self-proclaimed goal was tolerated by this ridiculously large complex game.
With 2080, i9-9900K and 32GB of RAM, I can run RDR2 mostly on ultra settings with some resource-intensive settings completely off or switched off. But some hardware combinations are proving troublesome for RDR2, leading to random crashes in some APIs and, more recently, to a hotfix, leading to hitching problems for some 4-core CPUs.
During the first weekend, I couldn’t spend more than an hour without crashing on the desktop, though Vulcan switched from DX12 (which gives me better framerates) back to static stuff. Sometimes the UI malfunctions and I cannot select a select or purchase option, the map fails to appear, or I get paged unexpectedly from game servers.
The graphics settings are almost too much as well, and probably confusing. In our test, only a handful of settings affected performance by more than 1-2 percent. Large residuals, the mapping between MSAA, volumetric lighting, and parallax occlusion, affect performance by 5 to 25 percent. Most of them don’t make a big visual difference anyway and are best left out.
The way the settings are presented is made to feel underdeveloped: a huge list with unclear presets that require tinkering to make RDR2 run in a satisfactory framerate. It is hard. The PC should be the best place to play, not the best place to play, after all, after a few patches. It’s a shame for a game to look good. upcoming pc games
Cowboy poetry Red Dead Redemption 2 PC
Like in singleplayer mode, in Red Dead Online I can make my goals reasonable and watch them. The problem is, it is basically hamstrung by a frustrating multiplayer leveling system that locks basic equipment and cosmetics behind long XP requirements that can meet hours, perhaps days,
The option is spending gold, premium currency, items and clothing to unlock them immediately. A fishing pole is not available until level 14. A damn fishing pole in an outdoor recreation game. This is not spectacular and is a terrible way to invest players.
out a basic suite of tools (fishing rod, bow, varmint rifle, nice hat, etc.), Red Dead Online opened up widely. I have largely ignored traditional matchmaking modes such as gunfights and horse races, cheap thrills, I will play much better versions in different games, to have fun. It led to the most inventive, serene, real, and sometimes buzzing echo I’ve ever had.
I once walked into the middle of a fire in Blackwater and took the player corpses one by one to the church cemetery. Some were captured and participated in the ‘burial’ of their friends. A corpse thanked me for the gesture. Later, in an extended streak of criminal activity, my pose and I caught another player and instead of killing them on the spot, we rode into the swamp and threw them into the garter infected waters. I got the idea to act like a friend. Best pc games 2017
On a less absurd note, I set myself a constant goal of earning strictly enough money from hunting to buy cool-weather gear and a fine rifle. I am going to hike in the mountains and find the best way to hide there, a wild mountain man adorned with animal skins, which almost touches the floor.
In the meantime, I’m stopping gunmen across the city by running through the streets and calling for a parley. I am participating in an eight-player ballroom. I am living the life of a normal cowboy in the best shepherd game. I hope it clears up soon.
