Earth Day
Tumblr media
Did you know that the number of garbage trucks that Americans fill each year could stretch halfway to the moon?
How do we help limit waste? -We specialize in adaptive reuse projects which give buildings new life, and we can limit materials headed to the dumpster! -We provide preconstruction services which help our design, construction, and client teams to understand exactly what is needed - eliminating wasteful excess of material. -Around the office, we have reusable plates, bowls, cups, mugs, silverware, and towels, which cuts back on paper product garbage.
Though we're highlighting just a few of our waste-eliminators on Earth Day, our stewardship for the earth goes beyond April 22nd!
How does your company show care throughout the year?

Timber Frame Golf Clubhouse
Tumblr media
For this project the timber frame structure was cut and prepared off site, delivered to Mendham Golf and Tennis Club and erected in place.
Tumblr media
The timbers are Douglas Fir sourced from the Pacific Northwest, providing rapidly renewable material which grows tall and true. All the timber posts and beams, as well as the tongue-and-groove decking, are structural. This allows for large clear spans which result in a very grand, tall and open space.

Adaptive Reuse Farmstead
An old farmstead sat vacant for about 15 years in Lancaster County, PA and our owners saw potential.
Tumblr media
At that point, no farmer was going to put the extensive resources into the property that it would need to become functional again and the township didn't want a big corporation to destroy the buildings/property.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we gave the historic farmhouse (& barn) new life by adapting it to serve as our headquarters for our construction company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The farmhouse is office space, the in-law's quarters (black building on the right) is the timber frame conference room & more office space, and the timber frame connector serves as the reception area and open meeting space.
Tumblr media
This shows how versatile timber framing can be and how you can blend old world craftsmanship with modern design features. We also love that it's given our team a biophilic space to work in and was a sustainable way to construct our building!

The Benefits of Preconstruction Services
Tumblr media
Whether it’s commercial development, an adaptive reuse construction project, or a new equestrian facility, the journey from concept to completion can feel daunting. Each stage of the process demands careful attention to detail, proactive planning, and strategic decision-making. Among these critical phases, the preconstruction services we offer stand as the cornerstone of a successful project. The significance of a thorough preconstruction process cannot be overstated.
“Optimizing resources – that’s the big benefit of a quality preconstruction plan,” Levi, COO of Quarry View shares. “Without a preconstruction process in place, many people find they spend more on design and change orders. When a client is starting a construction project, especially a large project, a solid budget with reliable pricing is important. Another common challenge that we help solve through the preconstruction process is limiting change orders down the road.” At the heart of preconstruction services lies the invaluable opportunity to lay a trustworthy foundation for the project ahead.
Comprehensive Planning Preconstruction services provide the platform for comprehensive planning. This in-depth evaluation enables all parties involved to align their objectives, expectations, and timelines. Through a detailed assessment of project requirements, feasibility studies, and site evaluations, potential obstacles can be identified and addressed early on which will help minimize costly surprises down the line.
Budget Optimization One of the primary advantages of preconstruction services is the ability to optimize project budgets. By conducting detailed cost estimation and value engineering analyses, we can identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality. This proactive approach empowers clients to make informed decisions that align with their financial parameters while maximizing the project’s value. Design teams specialize in design, though not necessarily specializing in accurate budgeting. For more reliable numbers, a preconstruction process with Quarry View helps present accurate estimates and allows us to skip costly re-design fees.
Risk Mitigation Every construction project is inherently associated with a degree of risk. However, a thorough preconstruction process serves as a shield against potential pitfalls by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks. Early risk management strategies can safeguard the project’s progress and profitability. The preconstruction process will help identify long lead times with materials and secure subcontractor buy-in early. A custom construction project requires a unique combination of contractors that will bring the right skill and quality to the job site. Quarry View cultivates the right subcontractor relationships which results in a more speedy start to the project once the construction contract is signed.
Enhanced Collaboration Effective collaboration among all project stakeholders is essential for success. Preconstruction services foster an environment of collaboration by bringing our team, architects, engineers, and clients together in a unified effort towards a common goal. By fostering open communication channels and promoting transparency, potential conflicts can be resolved swiftly, leading to smoother project execution.
Timeline Optimization Time is of the essence in the construction industry, and delays can have far-reaching consequences. Preconstruction services enable precise scheduling and sequencing of activities, ensuring that the project progresses in a timely and efficient manner. The goal of timeline optimization is to streamline operations and minimize delays.
Quality Assurance Ultimately, the success of any construction project hinges on the quality of the final structure. Preconstruction services play a pivotal role in ensuring quality assurance by establishing clear standards, specifications, and benchmarks. Through rigorous quality control measures and proactive problem-solving, our construction team can uphold the highest standards of craftsmanship and deliver exceptional results.
In essence, preconstruction services serve as the bedrock upon which successful construction projects are built. By investing time, resources, and expertise in the preconstruction phase, clients can mitigate risks, optimize budgets, and lay the groundwork for a seamless construction experience. From conceptualization to completion, the value of thorough preconstruction planning cannot be overstated—it is the catalyst that transforms your vision into your reality.

Timber Framing in Modern Construction
Tumblr media
In today’s rapidly evolving world of commercial construction, where steel and concrete are common, there’s a timeless beauty and enduring strength found in the age-old craft of timber framing. While modern building techniques offer efficiency and convenience, the resurgence of timber framing represents a return to tradition, offering numerous benefits that go beyond aesthetics. From sustainable practices to customizable designs, incorporating timber framing into modern construction projects is a choice that resonates with both the heart and the mind.
Honoring Tradition, Building for the Future Timber framing, an ancient building method dating back centuries, involves crafting structures using heavy timber posts and beams connected with traditional joinery techniques. While this method may seem archaic, its popularity in modern construction speaks volumes about its enduring appeal. By embracing timber framing, architects, builders, and business owners pay homage to centuries of craftsmanship while creating structures that stand the test of time.
Sustainability at the Forefront In an era marked by environmental consciousness, timber frames emerge as a sustainable alternative to conventional building materials. Timber is renewable and boasts a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to steel or concrete. Additionally, timber frame construction often involves minimal waste, with offcuts and byproducts finding secondary uses or serving as fuel for biomass energy. By promoting timber framing, we, as a General Contractor, align our projects with eco friendly and sustainable building practices.
Strength and Durability Contrary to some misconceptions, timber frame structures are exceptionally strong and durable. Engineered timber, such as glulam (glued laminated timber) and CLT (cross-laminated timber), offer impressive strength-to-weight ratios, rivaling that of steel and concrete. Furthermore, the natural properties of wood, such as its ability to flex and absorb shock, make timber frame buildings resilient against seismic activity and extreme weather conditions. By harnessing the inherent strength of timber, builders create structures that not only endure but thrive in challenging environments.
Design Flexibility and Customization One of the most alluring aspects of timber framing is its unparalleled design flexibility. Unlike prefabricated steel structures, timber framing allows for intricate, customizable designs that showcase the artistry of the craft. From soaring cathedral ceilings to intricate truss systems, timber frame construction offers endless possibilities for creativity and personalization. Moreover, timber’s warm, organic aesthetic adds character and charm to any space, creating inviting environments that stand out amidst the monotony of modern architecture.
Timeless Beauty, Modern Appeal In a world dominated by cookie-cutter construction, timber framing offers a refreshing departure from the ordinary. Its timeless beauty and rustic elegance evoke a sense of warmth and authenticity that resonates with people across generations. Whether used in residential homes, commercial spaces, or public structures, timber frame construction exudes a sense of craftsmanship and heritage that captivates the imagination. By incorporating timber framing into modern building projects, architects and builders infuse their creations with a sense of soul and character that sets them apart from the rest.
In an age where innovation often overshadows tradition, the presence of timber framing in modern construction reminds us of the enduring allure of age-old craftsmanship. By embracing timber framing, we not only create structures of exceptional strength and beauty but also contribute to a more sustainable and resilient built environment. As we look to the future, let us not forget the lessons of the past, and may timber framing continue to inspire awe and admiration in the hearts of all who behold its timeless elegance.

Prior to the vision our owners had for this historic farmstead, the old buildings sat vacant of any legal tenants or happenings. The old brick house and barns hosted squatters and crime.
As construction began on this adaptive reuse project, many people - members of the community and those passing by, often shared their excitement and appreciation for the progress being made on the historic farmstead.
Now, we see growth in the reuse & recycle mindset in construction as we’ve provided a viable example of how it can be done.

Kids' woodworking Day
"This is actually fun!"
Tumblr media
We recently invited some students from a local school and the children of our staff to participate in our Kids' Woodworking Day event. The students worked alongside our team of expert carpenters to create a special project. During a break, they walked into our timber frame connector and the "ohhh!"s and "ahhh!"s were audible. Our staff explained that there are many career paths within the world of woodworking - from crafting smaller projects like the ones the students were working on, to building big timber frame structures.
As we wrapped up our time together, one of the girls proclaimed, "I could do this all day long!" Another student said, "This is actually fun!"
Our team enjoys inspiring the next generation of carpenters and experts in the construction industry. We provide real opportunities for career growth and professional development. If you'd like to join our team, carpenters can send their resumes to [email protected] or review our Preconstruction Manager opening here - https://northgroupconsultants.com/jobs/#/jobs/321
