Tilicho and Thoranga Pass Trek
Tilicho Lake is the world’s highest Lake, situated at 4919 meters of elevation in the Annapurna region of  Nepal and is one of the most spectacular attractions. The challenging trekking path circumnavigates the Annapurna range, dividing Tilicho from Manang and continuing to Thorong la pass (5496m). Our 16 days Tilicho and Thorangla Pass Trek takes you to a natural and religious treasure. The Ramayan, one of Hinduism’s holy books, has also mentioned the Lake, Nilgiri mountain Khangsar, and Muktinath summits. The bluish Lake gently nestles among the white snowy giants, providing a stunning panorama for trekkers and photographers. The Lake will be completely frozen in the winter, providing trekkers unforgettable moments.
Trekking begins from Beshisahar and continues to a lovely Manang village. The famous Annapurna circuit follows rice fields, breathtaking rivers, waterfalls, and magnificent views of Manaslu and Annapurna. The Thakali people live here, and you will fall in love with them because of their distinct culture and hospitality, which are well-known. We will depart from the circuit and follow the trail to Tilicho. After remaining at the Tilicho base camp, which has lodging facilities. We will cross through Thorong la pass on our way back, this trek’s highest point and main attraction. After this, we will continue our Thorang la pass trip, passing through Muktinath-Jomsom on the way down. Muktinath holds great religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. Tumblr media

Our journey will continue as we go across large hills, jungles, and wetlands. We will pass by small Buddhist stupas, monasteries, and the Lama’s School at Manang village. However, Manang is populated by Buddhist Lamas who migrated from Tibet, Dolpo, and Mustang.
Day 6: On your 6th day of Tilicho and Thorangla Pass Trek, you will acclimate to Manang. Explore around
It’s an acclimatization day for you at a high altitude. We will spend a day in Manang and go sightseeing with your guide. At the same time, we will visit a monastery during this hike and travel to Gangapurna Glacier Lake, located in Manang.
Day 7: Trek Manang to Khangsar Village (3700 meters) for 4/5 Hours
We will continue our journey to Tilicho Lake after acclimating to Manang. From Manang, we will exit through the western gates and takes the path down to the river. After crossing the Khangsar river on the bridge, just below Khangsar village, we will start climbing up to the village. Khangsar village is also known as Nepal’s last village, and here you can see many traditional Tibetan houses. We will spend the night in a locally constructed tea house.
Day 8: Trek Khangsar Village to Tilicho Base Camp (4200meters) for 5 hours
Trek begins on a new trail which takes an entirely different route. As a result, you ascend to a high crest and then descend via uneven slopes on switchbacks to a side valley of the central valley, and a creek runs through it. Hence on the other side, at an elevation of 4200 meters, is a settlement known as Tilicho Base Camp.
Tumblr media
Day 9: Trek to Tilicho Lake (4,949 m) and back down to Tilicho Base Camp (4200m)
Early in the morning, we will begin our climbing. You have to drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods. It takes 3-4 hours to walk from Base Camp to Tilicho Lake. Tilicho Lake, the world’s highest Lake, is freezing in the morning. We will return the same way to Base Camp after spending some time around Tilicho Lake because there are no accommodations in the Tilicho Lake area.
Day 10: Trek Tilicho Base Camp to Yak Kharka (4000 meters) 5/6 hours
While returning from Base Camp, you must maintain high altitude sickness and take a route 400 meters before  Khangsar town, which goes to the old Khangsar town. You will reach Gumsang, and After crossing the old log bridge in the river, you will reach Yak kharka. Yak Kharka’s meaning in English is Yak’s residence. Overnight tea houses are offered here.
Day 11 : Trek Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,450m) – 5 hrs
After a two-hour ascent, the trail drops to 4,310m, where it crosses the river. We then go to 4,450m Thorong Phedi, where decent guesthouses have recently been built. We can also reach High Camp as an option. The availability of tea houses is a factor, and the guide will decide the day before.
Day 12 : Trek Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,800m) passing Thorang-La pass (5,416m)
Today’s walk begins at 4 a.m., to reach the pass by 9 a.m. It is to avoid high wind after midday, which could significantly impact the journey, especially at the Thorung La Pass (5,416m). We climb sharply on a well-defined path that is simple to follow. However, due to the altitude and snow, specific issues may develop. The four-hour journey up to the pass marked with chortens and prayer flags will be rewarded with breathtaking views from the top. Another four hours of travelling will get us to Muktinath, the sacred town. Here for the night.
Day 13: Trek down to Jomsom village via Kagbeni visit (2700m) 5 hours
Muktinath is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. In the morning, you can visit a holy temple, holy bathing 108 taps, sacred pools, a monastery, and giant statues of Padmasambhava. After this, we will spend most of the way down to Jomsom along the road. You can also take a Jeep ride from Muktinath to Jomsom. Visiting Kagbeni and Jharkot villages along the way is worthwhile, and walking down is more enjoyable than driving back.
Day 14: Fly Jomsom to Pokhara
It is a very early flight. You can either have an early breakfast in Jomsom or leave for Pokhara too. The flights in Jomsom are very unpredictable due to the weather. The weather always has an impact on aviation during the flight to Jomsom. Once you get on the plane in 15 minutes, a small plane carrying a maximum of 17 people will return you to Pokhara. A memorial visit in Pokhara begins after settling into the hotel and having enough time to rest. Boating at Fewa Lake, visiting the International Mountain Museum, driving or hiking to the World Peace Stupa, visiting David Fall, and visiting the Gupteswor Caves are things to do. You can finish all of these locations or do some rest.
In addition, the distance between Pokhara and Kathmandu is 200 kilometres. Therefore, it takes 7 hours to travel by tourist bus or private automobile. It would be best to relax for half a day in Pokhara before flying to Kathmandu in the afternoon. You might enjoy this route if you enjoy long adventure trekking. Tripura Travelcations offers you supper in a traditional Nepali cultural restaurant in Kathmandu in the evening.
