Digiweek Day 5: Crossover x1
@digiweek I have two crossover pieces for day 5 of Digiweek because … because honestly everything I write is basically a crossover
This is for my current Zoids X Digimon x Beyblade fanfic on FFN which you can read here:
Excerpt:
They set out at daybreak, just as the twin moons of Zi were beginning to dip beyond the horizon. Thomas’s route had them crossing into Imperial territory via Fire Bridge and then heading south from Dragonhead base. It would take them just over eight hours to reach the General’s research site once they had crossed into Imperial territory.
The interior of her Blade Liger’s cockpit was a far cry from the cramped cockpit of the Pteras they had flown to Red River in. With the Liger, Steph had travelled from New Helic city to the Gurreal Plateau in the far reaches of the Empire and the cockpit was one of the most familiar places she had been in a long time. It no longer sported the outdated console of the obsolete Shield Liger it had once been - instead, the combat systems and computer systems had been heavily upgraded and modernised by Dr D prior to the Deathsaurer battle. Among the upgrades had been a state of the art radar and digital communications.
For the most part, Matt remained silent throughout the journey, occasionally advising them to adjust course when they’d drifted too far south.
“Ishida, what’s the top speed on that modified Zaber Fang of yours?”
“Two hundred and eighty,” was the curt reply from the Zaber Fang,
Alone in the cockpit of her Blade Liger, Steph felt herself grin. The standard top speed for a Zaber Fang was around two-hundred and forty. Clearly Matt had made modifications to more than just the zoids artillery.
“Wow,” she heard Van exclaim excitedly. “I’m pretty sure Colonel Schubaltz’s isn’t even that fast.”
“What do you say to an old fashioned drag race?” he proposed eagerly.
“That sounds like a great idea,” Fiona chimed in. “I’m sure Zeke would love that!”
“Thomas can be the judge,” Van suggested. The Dibison was well known for its impressive fire power, but it left much to be desired in terms of its top speed.
She heard Thomas’s huff of annoyance. “We’re not out here to have fun,” he reminded them.
“Spoil sport,” Van grumbled, and Zeke echoed his disappointment with a sympathetic growl.
Their bickering continued back and forth until Matt finally interrupted them. “I actually wouldn’t mind a race,” he said. “I’d like to see the Liger MS in action.”
“Steph, back me up here?”
Steph hated to gang up on Thomas, but a race did sound like a fun idea, and she could already feel Storm’s anticipation building. The organoid was incredibly competitive, and beating up on the new recruits at the academy was only entertaining for so long…
“I could use the distraction,” she conceded, and smiled at Van’s childish whoop of excitement.
Steph peered though the cockpit of the Liger and into the distance. Drag races were traditionally run over a quarter-mile - approximately four hundred meters.
“See that rock formation over there?” She marked the position on her radar so both Van and Matt could see. “That’s a quarter-mile from here.” Outside her cockpit window, Van’s liger came up level with the nose of her own, and on her opposite side, she saw the Zaber Fang draw close.
“Sounds good,” Matt agreed.
“What do you say, Thomas?” Fiona asked sweetly.
“Fine,” the Imperial captain grumbled. “BEEK, give them a countdown.”
The AI buzzed excitedly and the words “Ready” and then “Set” flashed across Steph’s comms. A barrage of missiles signalled them to go and Steph felt herself thrown back in her seat as Storm launched the Liger forward.
Van was first off the mark - the Blade Liger’s larger frame and longer legs had allowed Van a decent head start with the first few strides - but larger also meant heavier.
“No you don’t,” Steph muttered under her breath, and Storm rumbled her agreement. Engaging her zoid’s primary boosters, she was easily able to close the small gap between them. Over a long distance, she knew the other Liger was faster - but the MS was smaller, and able to reach its top speed far quicker. Her Liger nudged ahead of Van’s, and with a roar exhilaration, sprinted away. In the short distance, Steph knew Van wouldn’t be able to catch her.
“Take that, Van,” she exclaimed.
Kwyahh! Storm grumbled, and Steph turned around in her seat to see the Zaber Fang to her left, nipping at her heels.
“Not bad,” she muttered under her breath. She heard Storm grumble and the Liger responded by increasing the length of its strides and Steph watched the numbers on her heads up display climb.
269 … 270 … 271 …
The Zaber Fang matched her speed, stride for stride as she pushed the Liger harder. Only when her speedometer flashed ’283’ did she see the other zoid start to struggle. She gave the thrusters one last push and her spedometer clocked 305 km/hr - the MS’s top speed.
It was all over in less than ten seconds. Steph reached the rock formation first and skidded the Liger to a sudden stop, hearing the groan of brake pads being pushed to their limits. Beside her, lagging only half a second behind was the Zaber Fang.
Van reached the rock formation last and shot passed both zoids before he engaged the brakes. It took him over two hundred meters to bring the zoid to a complete stop, kicking up a wall of sand as he did so. His top speed flashed up on Steph’s display.
316 km/hr.
“Did you see that?” Van exclaimed excitedly. “The Zaber Fang almost had you there, Steph!” He didn’t seem at all bothered at having lost the race.
“Almost,” Steph agreed with a grin. “But not quite.”

“BEEK has the computing power to handle this, but Thomas gets nervous when people talk about BEEK. And a little jealous. Did you know that he sneezes when he’s nervous?”
