I’ve been surprised the past few days. I love hualian, they’re my absolute favorite.  But I didn’t realize people didn’t know that Xie Lian is not the shortest MXTX shou. and they don’t have the biggest height difference of the canon couples.
May I present  ✨ Moshang ✨

I’m in the Mood for a Fic Where…
Happy New Year to all.  I was hoping the whole brouhaha about tags and new posts would have been fixed by now, but I’m getting so many of these requests that I’ve got another entire Mood post in queue.  So I hope everyone who is involved gets to see this.  Help me out, here, Crew!
~*~
1.  For the next In The Mood For I am looking for fics where (a) the library scene actually happened or WY finds out about the dream (hopefully with a happy ending) and (b) fics where WY deals with his fear of dogs~ Thanks!!
(a)
Stunted, Starving Juvenility by TomatenMark (E, 187k, wangxian, lan qiren & wei wuxian, WIP)
(b)
❤️Tragedy is Not the End by Hobbsy3 (T, 358k, wangxian, my bookmark)
a different reflection by silversshadow (T, 32k, wangxian, my post)
❤️Gentians in bloom by teawater (M, 251k, wangxian, my bookmark) - puppy therapy is actually in the sequel Silver bells and cockle shells
❤️ Rabbit Heart by Suaine (M, 57k, wangxian, my post) - wwx adopts a puppy
he’s worth it, for every bead in his hair by overgrownruins (E, 75k, wangxian, nielan, minor niexian, moshang from SSVS) - WWX magically bonds with a wolf and thus must get over his fear of dogs! Also there’s other interesting plot things and a fascinating au inspired by the ‘A Companion to Wolves’ book.  MXTX Big Bang 2021.
many envies by newamsterdam (T, 21k, jiang cheng & wei wuxian)

2.  Hello!! Welcome back✨[thank you!] I love all of your recommendations, and I'm probably not even half quarter reading all the fanfics.. And I wanna ask a question, perhaps do you know any fanfics that have infidelity between Wangxian? Like one of them cheating and left the other kind of stuff. And they have a baby too! Thanks💕
A part of my heart, a part of his heart by Windandthunder (M, 11k, wangxian, xixian)
on the precipice of by insane_falcon (T, 5k, xixian, wangxian, lan wangji & lan xichen)
I'm watching it Burn by BCat13 (G, 6k, wangxian, lan wangji/others)
~*~
3.  For your next "I'm in the mood for a fic where..." post, do you have any recs for fics where WWX is brought back by someone else? (Preferably a named, canon character rather than an oc). I read Everyanything, where he was brought back by Qin Su, which you recced recently, [my ❤️bookmark] and really enjoyed it.
the problem with authority by isabilightwood (M, 139k, wangxian, qingli) - JYL resurrection AU
So You Want to Start a War by JaenysBloodcourt (T, 23k, wangxian, WIP) - QS brings WY back

The Conspiracy will kick your ass by Bazbaz (M, 43k, wangxian, WIP) -  NHS performs the Sacrifice ritual
~*~
4.  Wow your recs are so good!! Do you happen to know any good outsider pov?
Here are 30 fics in my #POV Outsider tag (this is my AO3 collection, since tags aren’t working well here on tumblr) which includes more distant characters but also POV of major characters (like Jiang Cheng) but focused on observing Wangxian. [ Link is actually to a search for the word ‘outsider’ since I tend to tag both POV Outsider AND Outsider POV, derp.]
House on Haunted Hill by JustAWanderingBabbit (T, 6k, xongxiao, meng yao & nie mingjue) -  outsider POV of a night-hunt set in a supposedly haunted inn. This is an old-school Scooby-Doo homage in which the culprits are plain old greedy mundanes; the investigators, however...(JGY, SL, XXC, NMJ, AQ; post-canon; set in the Babbit's Pieces-verse.)
~*~
5.  Hello!! Thank you so much for the recommendations, your page has been my go-to for wangxian content for a while now! If it's alright with you, I was wondering if you know any fics where (for any reason) there are multiple Wei Yings from different times (teen, yiling patriarch, and after his revival etc) and Lan Wangji has to deal with them?? I hope it's not too confusing, english is not my first language TT Thank you!
Four Parts Honey and One Part Vinegar by masked (T, 13k, wangxian, my post) - Burial Mounds-era WWX comes to the post-canon future in the final chapter. WWX is jealous of LWJ's attention to his past self
veni vidi vici by wolframvonbielefeld (maknaeline) (E, 6k, wangxian) -  In an Incense Burner dream, present-day WWX is confronted by his prior Yiling Laozu persona, and assimilates that aspect of himself in a steamy dual-cultivational ritual (the term “resentacles” applies) as a restrained LWJ witnesses the selfcest.
a tide in two seas by occultings (microcomets) (E, 81k, wangxian) -  Modern AU wangxian travel portal into postcanon wangxian's world
~*~
6.  Hey do you know any fics where (a) Wei Wuxian gets over his fear of dogs? Or (b) Murder Husbands WangXian?
(a)
See #1 (b)
(b)
scienter by synonemous (E, 67k, wangxian, 4 works, series in progress)
You & Me Baby, We'll Eclipse The Sun by 2501987 (E, 130k, wangxian, 22 works)
~*~
7.  Okay, this is probably really specific but I was hoping you or someone reading this could find some stories where Wei Wuxian learns something from someone not in the Jiang family, like he learns how to dye clothes or paint a certain way or blacksmith or build/make something or even learns to use a different weapon? While still being part of the Jiang Sect. Like a side hobby that maybe becomes useful later or impresses Lan Wangji? Just something where Wei Wuxian has teachers or friends outside of the main Jiang clan. (Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense 😅)
Enfant Perdu, Jouet du Destin by JaenysBloodcourt (T, 15k, wangxian)
Instead of rabbits, I’ll give you this by Bloodcoral (T, 95k, wangxian, xicheng, WIP) -  WWX ends up taking several apprenticeships after the lectures to learn more skills and he ends up sending LWJ a pair of gloves made from white dragons scales
Hyperprosexia by malkinmalkout (E, 192k, wangxian, my post) - wwx gets a mastery in talisman arts at one point
~*~
8.  Hi! I really really want to read a fic where Wei Ying and Lan Zhan keep their relationship a secret and reveal it later written during modern times while maybe famous somehow or a good crossover story!
Let's See How Long Nobody Notices by narikanyan (M, 10k, wangxian)
Your Name On My Chest by Director_XuanWu (T, 72k, wangxian, #angst!)
Open Secret by brooklinegirl (E, 35k, wangxian) - secret relationship, but not because of fame
~*~
9.  Hello! I love your blog it’s been so helpful in finding good fics to read. Do you happen to know of any good fics of WWX directly out of the three months in the burial mounds trying to adjust to basically acting human again? I’ve been looking for this one fic I read a while ago that’s about this where WWX steps out of the burial mounds for the first time and travels to yiling and stays at an there inn and basically tries to figure out how to act like a normal human being before he continues on his revenge quest. I can’t seem to find this fic anywhere and I was wondering if you knew of it?  [I couldn’t decide is this was a Finder or a Mood request, but I settled on Mood....]
we're starting at the end by Miss_Enthusiasimal (M, 92k, wangxian, jiang cheng & wei wuxian)
not like gold in your dreams by pallasj (T, 10k, wangxian, see Chapter 5)
between the shadow and the soul by cl410 (M, 22k, wangxian, my bookmark)
~*~
10.  Hello! I've followed you for a couple of days (week?) now and I'm been reading a lot of your "in a mood fic" and let me tell you, you have shown me fics that I've never considered before, so thank you for that. [I’m so glad!] I don't know if you're taking asks for "in a mood fic" but do you happen to know fics where a) WangXian PDA or being domestic and other characters react to it and b) NHS protecting NMJ (fix-it or not) - I just love the Nie brothers. Thank you and have a nice day!
(a)
Is My Brother Being Conned? by Director_XuanWu (T, 39k, wangxian, nielan)
(b)
I Have Been Selfish, Too by osiesaur (M, 137k, nieyao, wangxian, 3zun, WIP) - Author says, *screams in social anxiety* i see your latest mood post doesn't have anything for 10b and i wrote a fic that might work. IDK if it's what the asker wants bc it's JGY POV but NHS travels back in time to save NMJ. so *deep breath* self promotion it is I guess.  [FYI self-promotions are admired and supported in this house!]
~*~
11.  Hi! Hope you're doing well, and that you have peaceful holidays :) I was wondering if you know of any fic that deals with wwx being mentally 22/23 while all of his peers are 35/37 closer to 40? Thanks you so much! ~ @theraincanttouchus
~*~
12.  Hello! Glad to see you back posting again. I was wondering if you knew any fics where LWJ's father plays a bigger role? I know he isn't much of a part of canon since he's in seclusion, but I don't really see him that much in fanon either.
Tam Lin AU by osiesaur (T, 26k, wangxian, 2 works) -  features a few scenes with qingheng-jun
Jiang Rising by eebee (M, 135k, wangxian, WIP) -  focused on Jiang Yanli but definitely has QHJ in it
~*~
13.  hey! i was looking for fics where lwj just fucks off from the lan clan, being like a rogue cultivator or whatever (newer ones are appreciated!!) thank youuuu
Here’s my #lan wangji nopes out of the lan sect tag (this is my AO3 collection, since tags aren’t working well here on tumblr)
The Ghost in Our Hearts. by JaenysBloodcourt (T, 13k, nie mingjue/wei wuxian/lan wangji in various permutations) - LWJ leaves his sect, through it is just background
And They Have Escaped The Weight of Darkness by cosmicmilktea (T, 10k, wangxian)
~*~
14.  If you manage to reach this ask by then, Happy Holidays! [Whoops!]  If not, then I hope you had a Happy Holiday! 😆 For an in the mood fic, please may I request unplanned mpreg!wwx, maybe with a touch of drama/hurt-comfort; maybe they'll face disapproval, or wwx runs away, or it's a bit of a rocky pregnancy etc
A Scent of Pine in Winter by mondengel (M, 6k, wangxian)
And the world's alright with me by so_shhy (E, 13k, wangxian, my post)

18.  Hi Mojo, I hope you're having an amazing day! I'm going to be really greedy and ask for 3 recs, please forgive me! The first one (a) is for a really good case fic. The second (b) is for a fic where WWX is put on trial for being the Yiling Patriarch and the last (c) is for a fic with some awesome interaction between WWX and LXC. Platonically though, cause I'm team wangxian all the way. I'll be grateful for even one of these recs, thank you!

Plz let Airplane be EVEN MORE Awesome - Fic Rec Part Duo
*Stares at all the notes my last post got* Nice to know we are all just as Thirsty for the good boi as Mobei-Jun is.
So Thus, I have decided to make another! (Smashes the post button) Since there was a lot, I just decided to make another post.
here we go kids, more of that good Airplane love... alongside that good quality Moshang because I am biased~
(Plz share if you find more!)
a cup of vinegar, a spoon of sugar by Shamelesscooper - “Your timing certainly is impeccable, my lord,” Wei Wuxian groans, rubbing his back. “What brings you here for the second time in as many nights…?” “I left my cloak,” Mobei-Jun says, shooting Wei-Wuxian a dirty look as the bird demon shrugs his robe back on.“You certainly did!” Shang Qinghua exclaims, crossing his arms quite crossly. “You can’t just leave your things everywhere, my king!” Mobei-Jun’s hard stare refocuses on Shang Qinghua, and he can’t help but shrink back, hurriedly rummaging around in his qiankun pouch for the offending garment. As soon as Shang Qinghua finds it, Mobei-Jun takes it from his hands and throws it over his shoulders, breathing in a deep sigh as if it relieved him to have it there again. If you miss it so much, why did you even leave it behind?! Shang Qinghua almost wants to say, but he is quite fond of his head, actually, and would rather Mobei-Jun not take it off his shoulders, thankyouverymuch.
--Shang Qinghua is tasked with escorting the leader of the Yiling Carrion Tribe to Gusu, and it'd be fine if only Mobei-Jun would stop poking his (gorgeous, beautiful, drop-dead handsome) head in!
*Evil grin* here we have a delicious rare side of Jealous Mobei, Shang Qinghua doing something that most MDZS fans dream of doing once, and a side of shamelessness from our favorite ‘Lovebirds’ XD Not to mention how steamy it gets~
-
You Will Never Step Lightly In The Dark by Janusoverlord - Shang Qinghua wakes up in the aftermath of Tianlang-Jun's rampage on Cang Qiong Mountain and has to navigate the delicate political situation he now finds himself in. Luo Binghe is building a harem with Shen Qingqiu as his first, and honestly most terrifying, husband. Yet, Luo Binghe seems to be turning his eyes to Shang Qinghua as a possibility as well. Excuse you? What is this? He didn't sign up for this!
Okay, make sure you read the tags kiddies because uhhh, this has some themes to it. It is also part of a series as well, but I read it stand alone and it does good with how it explains things; as it is...
Let me just say, Luo Binghe does not know what he just got into; all mortals will bow to the might of our lord Airplane! I really did like this and I am tentatively on the fence about reading the rest of the series, because the writing is so damn good but we will see how my ship cravings twist.
-
With Ink and Sword by xnemone - Shang Qinghua is appropriately nervous when he passes the Imperial Exams only to be assigned not to the Emperor’s palace, but to the barren lands ruled by a lord known to be as ruthless as he is cold. Although his friend and confidant Shen Qingqiu gives him a sympathetic smile and a mountain of furs before he sets off, Shang Qinghua feels less than reassured. He expects ridicule, a harsh regime, even rejection. What he does not expect is for Mobei-Jun to take one look at him among all the scholars and servants of his palace, and proclaim him his.
Now, this is such a good story, I love it, is makes me feel happy and squishy inside with the good Moshang, and you know what? It has my new favorite thing in the world!
Shang Qinghua calls Cucumber bro out! AND IT IS GLORIOUS!!! (Seriously, why does this not happen more often?)
-
Good Vibrations by Feynite -  In Shang Qinghua’s defense, this whole trope was originally something he’d only ever written in for Sha Hualing, for precisely one scene.
In which I actually feel ashamed for forgetting such a treasure. Like, Feynite is a wonderful wordsmith, invoking so many thoughts and good shit with their words and characters, and by god do I end up just loving them even more then before.
This story passes the Vibe Check! (Luo Binghe also gets a Vibe Check~)
-
From Your Perspective by cozycitywitch - It was nothing more than a curse, probably, and surly the witch doctor could fix it? So what else was Shang Qinghua to do inside Mobei Jun's body until the end of the night? He couldn't be blamed for his curiosity! He was only a man! Or the one where Moshang switch bodies and Shang Qinghua can't help himself.
Now, this is a lovely, spicy lime where while there is no big action or technical awesomeness going on, it does have some wonderful images; Shang Qinghua’s hamster body with the aura of a king, him showing off being intimating which means Shang Qinghua can indeed be scary, it is something that could happen if he has the motivation for it.
Not to mention this is just a hot story all around~ (My kingdom’s for My King’s POV on this~)
-
ham hunt by jets_adjacent - There's a wolf at Shang Qinghua's heels and his only thought is: Northern mating rituals are a pain in the ass.
This is a really, really good A/B/O fic; it also shows just how tricky and sneaky our Shang Qinghua can be, as well as a mischievous side I just love seeing in our favorite Peak Lord. And let’s not forget the spicy goodness of this fic, which is really tasty~ (And can I get a shout out for consent and negotiated kinks!)
-
In which healthy relationship skills are forcibly brought into Proud Immortal Demon Way by two bros by Rafaela271412421 -  Look, if no one is going to give these people friends and healthy relationships then by GOD, I WILL do it myself! It's about two bros bringing healthy relationships into PIDW both intentionally and not. Gods and deities, accidental and not, will also be included. Also, it's in bullet point format, so you’ve been warned.
ahahahahaahhahahahaahaha! I love this fucking outline/bullet points presentation, it is something I always end up going back to and giggling like an idiot. The is really a healing piece, my crops have been watered, my face is clear, and Airplane and Cucumber Bros go completely feral~ I love it, I want to propose marriage~
-
trinkets for a king by jets_adjacent - Shang Qinghua gives many extraordinary gifts to his King. His King finally catches on. --aka: Mobei Jun has never been courted by a human before.
So, this is a wonderful subversion of the ‘Mobei-Jun courts/plans his wedding to Shang Qinghua all the while said man is unaware’. like, it is so cute and I love jelly Airplane; it gives me life. Also, one of the few we see Airplane taking full advantage of all his author knowledge and using it for the devious plans~
-
The Southern King and The North Star by Luuplup - A series of meetings between the Southern King and a cultivator. The happy moments, the romantic moments, the sad moments.
Another really cute Role Reversal I find I greatly enjoy, with a very competent, beloved Lord Demon!Airplane :D it makes me happy when I read it, I end up wanting to hug something~ It seems like it will be a slow burn, what with our favorite moronsexuals, but oh is it delicious seeing the buildup~
-
under a wicked star by tagteamme - Caught unaware, Mobei Jun is kidnapped for leverage. On the eighth day, Mobei Jun is broken out of his trance by the sound of something being tossed into his pit. It’s a lot lighter than what they throw food down in. He realizes that today, he is not tied down. When he moves off the bed, he does not need the canopy post to support his weight as he stands up. The object on the floor glints in the firelight, and Mobei Jun crouches to pick it up. His face is immoving; slowly, he turns the An Ding peak lord crown in his hand, looking at the blood-soaked metal through the light.
SQH to the rescue! Alongside some good old fashioned angsty Moshang miscommunication but with Mobei-Jun’s POV this time, and some absolutely good steamy good times for all XD
-
we seal our fate by ketolic (corrose) - All things considered, it really was sort of obvious. Hey! Anyone can be a genius in retrospect. Hindsight is 20/20! Besides, who can blame him! He'd never written about this facet of Mobei Jun's life before! Still...considering all the times he'd gotten his hands on Mobei Jun's sealskin, he's sort of shocked that it took him so long to figure it out.
:D This story makes me giggle uncontrollably, and still finds ways to unexpectedly stab me in the heart. I love it! Not to mention we get to see SQH be awesome! Sure, he flails around as he does it, but busts out the fighting moves and even fits a rescue in there! So good, so in character, I love every watery moment of this fic... good thing I’m so thirsty- (Is shot)
-----
But yeah! These are some more good stories I found, some a bit more- urrrr- thirstier then others~ you can find the first thing of Fic Recs Here! And Plz, share more awesome Airplane whenever you have a chance~

Scumbag System (SVSSS donghua) Episode 10 Thoughts (spoilers)
(covers SVSSS chaps 24 - 26, BC Novels Translations)
And thus the first season of the SVSSS donghua comes to an end...rather weirdly abruptly to be honest, but more on that later. Obviously I love the donghua. It was not perfect, but it still exceeded my expectations. I truly appreciate what they were able to do within their budget constraints and I think they captured the spirit of the source material perfectly, which is really all I hope for when it comes to adaptations.  The writing was strong, the humor hit the spot always (for example, when poor Shizun got motion sickness from sword riding, I guffawed), and they also gave us some of the most beautiful characters I’ve ever seen on screen, especially with Shen Qingqiu, Luo Binghe and Liu Qingge. I really, really hope they release official figurines for them. I’m going to start saving my money now just for that possibility.
Even though their time together in this episode was short, the BingQiu love was definitely strong. They gave them a combo move that was not in the source material: for someone like me who grew up watching Cantonese dramas, two characters who have a combo sword move (”雙劍合璧”!) are usually a couple so I was especially tickled by this addition. I am always thankful to the donghua team for the little Easter Eggs they give us for BingQiu, like the way Binghe's eyes lit up when he sees SQQ...
Tumblr media
or when SQQ touches him...
Tumblr media
Once again, for those not in the know, it can easily be interpreted as a disciple just being devoted and filial to his Shizun. But for those of us who have read the novel, of course we know it’s indication of Bingmei falling in love with SQQ. I love how subtle yet significant these little expressions of Binghe’s are, and I hope they continue on with these little touches even in the next season.
Of course then there are the more obvious gestures, like that HUG:
Tumblr media
It lasted for a good 15 seconds and oh my God look at the Binghe’s hand placement!  There was totally nipple groppage happening there! This wasn’t in the book by the way...SQQ didn’t get woozy and Binghe most definitely didn’t have to catch him like some fainting damsel, so we have the donghua team to thank for this wonderful moment of (sexy) physical contact between the two of them.
The donghua team was also especially generous in this episode since not only did we get some BingQiu love, but we got a pinch of LiuShen and QiJiu love too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LQG’s eyes were on SQQ the entire time! And then Yue Qingyuan as usual took any opportunity he got to touch his Qingqiu.  So all shippers were fed. Hell, they even threw in some more straight-baiting again so peeps who are watching the show for the “straight” romance between Luo Binghe and his never-to-be-future-wife Qin Wanyue were fed too since the scene where Binghe gives her the handkerchief to wipe away her tears were not in the chapters of the book for this episode, and racking my brain I don’t even think it was in the book, period. I’m trying to remember if that handkerchief even holds any significance but even if it does, it’s all for naught since we know Qin Wanyue is at most just a minor side character. She does pop up again later on but then is mostly forgotten, so...not quite sure what that moment was all about other than to, I don’t know, throw off the censors?
I’m also not sure why we spent so much time with Liu Mingyan and Gongyi Xiao in this episode. Nothing against them personally, I like both characters very much (despite my previous complaints about GYX’s character design), and it’s not that they don’t deserve more screen time, but this was the season finale! Even though the next season has been announced, God knows when we’ll see it next year and how many episodes it would be, so every minute of screen time matters! That’s why I was a bit puzzled that they used up half of the episode showing LMY basically facing the same perils with her group of fellow disciples as before and GYX just running from that huge serpent. Even if that thing DOES turn out to be Zhuzhi-lang, it was still a bit much. They weren’t exactly character building scenes either so...why? Budget reasons? Didn’t have enough money to pay SQQ’s voice actor (Wu Lei-laoshi) so they had to stick in miscellaneous scenes to lessen his screen time?
I’m kidding of course. God I hope that wasn’t the reason because that would just be sad.
Speaking of miscellaneous scenes though, what was going on with these two dudes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I gotta admit, I’m a bit salty that these two mob characters got to do what our main couple can’t. What’s their story? Why do they get special privileges? Damn these nobodies. XD
All kidding aside, I have to say, of all the episodes this season, this might be the weakest one, not only because of the “filler” scenes, but also, the way the episode ended was so odd, especially for a season finale. The season basically ended on a scene transition. Not a cliffhanger, just a scene transition, and then cut to credits. What?? Why??? It’s almost as if they just ran out of time so had to stop the show all of a sudden. And then as if to make up for it, they added post-credit scenes which, honestly blew me away because it was so unexpected. It was indeed almost enough to make me completely forgive the weakness of the episode as a whole and that weird-ass ending.
Tumblr media
I teared up!  The scene was kind of chopped up, didn’t even flow that smoothly, but I still got emotional! I’m sure when I see this scene in its entirety next season I am just going to be destroyed. I think they made it even more gut-wrenching than it was in the novel. Looks like the donghua team really aren’t gonna hold back when it comes to delivering the BingQiu knives.
We also got to see Mobei-jun appear in the post-credits scene; I guess they had to stick him in there since he was featured in the poster for this season, so it would have been weird if he didn’t at least make an appearance.
Tumblr media
I immediately thought of him as Sephiroth’s younger cousin when I first saw him on the poster and I still feel that way. Anyone related to Sephiroth, I will approve and instantly have affection for. For the MoShang shippers’ sake, I hope the Shang Qinghua they create for him will be just as pretty. I think I can now safely discard my guess from last time and also that moon-faced bearded ojisan others have guessed. We actually got a glimpse of the real deal in this sequence:
Tumblr media
They strategically made him blurry so you can’t really make out his features, but what we still can tell from there is that he does not have facial hair (hence, he cannot be the ojisan) and the hair crown he’s wearing is silver and different from the twinky sect leader. So I guess we’ll be getting a fresh out of the microwave Airplane Bro instead of any of the no-name potential cannon fodder we’ve already seen.
We’ll probably get the abyss opening up in maybe even the first episode of next season but that’ll still leave a lot of ground to be covered in just 10 episodes (rumored). There haven’t been any talk about a third season, but I really hope it’ll happen, even though it might take them a while to make it. I know it’s premature to even think of a third season when we haven’t even gotten an actual release date for the second, but I’m greedy because I already miss the donghua. This season was over so quickly, I’m already mourning the lack of new episodes. I hope we get the second season in the first quarter of next year and then by some miracle, a third or even fourth to properly finish out the story. I know we will never get the FULL story, but as long as they keep the spirit of BingQiu’s love and continue to hint at it like they’ve been doing this season, I will be more than satisfied.
And while I’m wishful thinking for new seasons, I hope we also get a BingQiu duet and character songs. I love the opening and ending theme this season, if they want to save money I totally don’t mind if they just use the same OP/ED themes in the next season as well, but I hope they throw in a good BingQiu insert song and then release some individual character songs as well. I’m still not a fan of Binghe’s voice, but maybe they can have someone else do his vocals for the songs. SVSSS is the older son of MXTX’s works, I feel like it already got short-shrifted in terms of adaptation since it got the lesser budget compared to MDZS and TGCF. Hopefully with how popular the donghua is this season, it will be given a bigger budget next season so they can bring to life all the subsequent proceedings from the book properly. And whatever they’re paying Wu Lei-laoshi, SQQ’s voice actor, they should double it because that man is just amazing. I worship his voice and performance. I wish he would read the audiobook version of the the novel. I would listen to the hell out of that.  I have always loved SQQ, but if I’m going to be honest, I came into the show just a little more excited about seeing Bingge being brought to life. I still love Binghe of course, in all his phases, however, now,  because of Wu Lei-laoshi’s stellar voice performance (and of course SQQ’s beautiful looks), I’m leaving this season absolutely head over heels about SQQ/Shen Yuan. Also thanks to the show, I’m completely obsessed with Liu Qingge as well.  So for those two reasons, I will eternally be grateful to the donghua team.

moshang childhood friends to lovers au pt. 4
Hello! here is a fic that was posted to my twitter. it has songs to go along with it from my twitter. If you’d like to look at the songs for each part, or just check out my twitter (where I have threadfics and other twitter fics not posted here), feel free to do so!
part 4 [age 18]
Shang Qinghua was absolutely losing his mind. He had definitely not spent enough time considering how long it would take to put together a comprehensive presentation on how to identify different kinds of rocks. He also definitely didn’t spend enough time trying to figure out what it was he really wanted to do. Mobei Jun wanted to do horticulture and Shang Qinghua did not want to do anything even close to horticulture. But he had no idea what he did want to do, so he had just went with biology. The school they went to had a good biology program, so it seemed only natural for them to attend together.
Shen Yuan ended up at a different school closer to home and was going for business. He insisted that staying close to home had nothing to do with Luo Binghe, Shang Qinghua! But alas. He remained close to Luo Binghe while he finished secondary school.
Because of this, Shang Qinghua really did only have Mobei Jun. Being in school had not helped him with his anxiety, or the loudness he sometimes felt. Mobei Jun had always helped that when they were growing up, but now it was intense enough that it didn’t really help as much as it used to. But maybe a part of that was the fact that Shang Qinghua was completely in love with him, and sometimes being near him brought on a different kind of anxiety.
Shang Qinghua now sat in the library. It stayed open late, thankfully, as if it knew Shang Qinghua was coming and that he would need to stay up until at least 3am to get his presentation completed. He stared at his petrology book and tried not to be too bitter about his poor choice for a geology fill.
He was busy trying to focus up when a slightly cold hand brushed across his neck. He jerked so hard that he gave himself a muscle cramp in his leg. He looked up and saw Mobei Jun standing next to him. He squeezed his neck once, comfortingly, and held out a cup. It was a warm coffee.
Settling his heart into a different kind of fast-paced, Shang Qinghua reached out to take it. He smiled a little. “Hey. Thanks.”
Mobei Jun sat across from him and pulled out his own homework.
“You have much work to do?” Shang Qinghua asked, taking a sip. It was warm and sweet, just like he liked it. He took another sip, scooting closer into the table.
“A little,” he said, pulling out a notebook and pen. “I have vocab to work on for a test tomorrow.”
Shang Qinghua stared at him from across the table, a little entranced by the way his long hair fell in wisps on the side of his face, falling from the loose bun at the back of his head. Shang Qinghua could look at him forever.
Mobei Jun looked up when he noticed that Shang Qinghua wasn’t moving. “What?”
Shang Qinghua blinked a few times, definitely in a homework-induced haze. “Uh, nothing. Just. I’m glad you’re here.”
He rested the side of his head on a fist as he looked at him, a small smile on his lips. “Where else would I be?”
Shang Qinghua looked back down at his book to hide his flush. Everything was always more raw in the middle of the night. In the daylight, they were covered by a fog, where it was easy to behave like friends do. It was easier to joke and laugh and be casual. But at night like this, when the fog lifted, there was nothing but skin and bones between them.
Mobei Jun watched Shang Qinghua across the room. He was speaking in a hushed voice, but he could hear everything that was being said. It was impossible not to, in the tiny dorm. Shang Qinghua was practically huddled in the corner, trying to become as small as possible. Mobei Jun ached to go over, to unfold him and reach into him to pull all of the bad things out.
“I can’t.” His voice was wearying, cracking down the middle.
Mobei Jun frowned, an urge to grab the phone and tell whoever it was who thought they could tell Shang Qinghua what to do exactly what he thought about that. But he didn’t even know what was being discussed.
Shang Qinghua’s voice did that thing, where he began to whisper, to hiss, to hide the face that it was too weak to speak normally. It was the voice he used when the fault line inside of him opened and he always fell through it. Mobei Jun wished he could catch him more often.
“You don’t understand,” he whispered. “You don’t understand,” he said again, gripping the phone so hard his fingers went white. “I wouldn’t even know where to begin. What to do. I can’t do it alone. I can’t.”
Mobei Jun couldn’t help it anymore. He stood up and stepped closer. What couldn’t Shang Qinghua do alone? What made him think he’d have to do anything alone? When he and Shang Qinghua had been together ever since—
“Mobei,” he said, turning to look up at him.
“What?” He whispered, trying not to let the other person hear him. “What’s going on?”
Shang Qinghua looked at him, eyes wide and teary. Mobei Jun took another step forward. He held up a hand and reached out. Mobei Jun grabbed it immediately and Shang Qinghua squeezed his hand. He turned his head away as he went back to the person on the phone. “Yes, he’s here. What did you think?”
Why was Mobei Jun involved in this conversation? He squeezed his hand back.
There was a buzzing that came from the phone, and it sounded just like all the other buzzes, but something about this buzz had Shang Qinghua freezing, had him shudder, had him cry. He abruptly hung up and tossed his phone away. He stood there for a long moment, still turned away from Mobei Jun. Without looking up, he spoke very softly. “I need to talk to you.”
Mobei Jun felt anxious. He tugged on him. “What is it? You can tell me anything, you know that.”
Shang Qinghua turned to him finally, but wouldn’t meet his gaze. He gripped onto his hand like he’d float away without it. He stared at his chest as he spoke. “I’ve given it some thought.” He swallowed. It was quiet between them as Mobei Jun waited. “I…”
“Tell me,” he said desperately.
“I’m not coming back to this school next semester. I’m going to transfer.”
Mobei Jun blinked, chest growing cold. “What?”
“I’m not happy here,” he whispered, like he was trying not to cry again. He still wouldn’t meet his gaze. “I think I want to study literature. They don’t have a literature program here.”
White noise erupted in Mobei Jun’s head. “So…So you’re transferring where?”
“There’s a good program where Shen Yuan goes to school. I’m going—I’m going there.”
“That’s hours away,” he whispered.
“Yeah.”
“You aren’t happy here?” The with me was left unsaid.
“No,” Shang Qinghua said, face finally scrunching up as he began to cry. “No, I’m not happy.”
It was only their first semester. They’d never been apart longer than two weeks. Now four years stared them in the face, large and heavy.
Mobei Jun swallowed, pressed his thumb into Shang Qinghua’s smaller palm, where it was soft and pliant beneath his. “Well…I want you to be happy. If that’s what will make you happy…then do it. I’d support you in anything.”
Shang Qinghua stepped into his chest. Mobei Jun wrapped his arms around him and stared over his head at the wall. Now it really did feel like Shang Qinghua was floating away.

Chapter 25: “Home Sweet Home” of “pride is not the word I’m looking for” quotes and commentary. Not a full list of favorite quotes or full commentary.
-
Anyway, Shang Qinghua makes himself  so fucking sincerely annoying that the Huan Hua Palace Sect cultivators can’t figure out how to politely tell him to fuck off fast enough. Shang Qinghua makes outlandish assumptions about how many thieves there are (at least a dozen, he’s sure, probably twice that) and what methods they might be using (special invisibility talismans, he suspects); Shang Qinghua repeatedly apologizes for being too busy with important things for Cultivator O.B.B. at the last Immortal Alliance Conference, then tries to commiserate with the man about having to get important things done without getting any respect for it; Shang Qinghua also anxiously wonders if they should all go to Zhao Hua Temple Sect to report what happened here, since there’s a troublesome demon and also some sneaky rogue cultivator thieves on the loose out here! He gets turned down immediately, but assures everyone that he’ll at least let Yue Qingyuan know everything that happened here right away!
Liu Qingge pretty much just stands there scowling silently the entire time - he’s no Shen Qingqiu for sheer menacing  "I can and I will ruin your entire life"  glares, but he’s still pretty intimidating. He does a great job! No notes!
Shang Qinghua nearly pats himself on the back as he and Liu Qingge leave less than an hour after he arrives.  “Holy shit, I’m good,”  he thinks, a little giddy with the successful extraction.  “That’s a skill that good ol’ Liu-Shidi will never have!”
 -
AN: Of course this has a high chance of backfiring. Is Shang Qinghua going to weave webs of lies anyway? Of course.
Love the fact that Shang Qinghua can shamelessly act like a total pushover, while actually manipulating someone so that he gets the results he wanted. Some snobby sect leader walks into a negotiation room, prepared to use SQH as a doormat, and Shang Qinghua is probably internally like, “Bro, me and my jelly spine welcome you to hell.”
He gives them the rundown on what happened, but, to his complete lack of surprise, that doesn’t seem to satisfy interrogators like his little sister-in-law and his fellow transmigrator. They have so many questions! And Shang Qinghua doesn’t have enough answers for them!
No, he doesn’t know what Huan Hua Palace Sect knows or thinks they know. No, he doesn’t know how they knew about that place. No, he doesn’t know whether the monster was just a local opportunist preying on distracted cultivators or something more sinister. No, he’s not experimenting with the creepy special item or discussing it at length here. No, Luo Fanli and Peerless Cucumber are not allowed to poke at the creepy special item!
Why the fuck would he ever let them do that?!
All Shang Qinghua knows is that Luo Fanli and Peerless Cucumber should eat their vegetables and then go to bed! Because they all have a long journey back to the sect in the morning! And also that words cannot describe how painfully old he feels as soon as he says this.
-
AN: I’ve been thinking about a Demon Trio fanfic in which Mobei-Jun finds himself in a similar position with Luo Binghe and Sha Hualing.
Mobei-Jun and Shang Qinghua are, like, bare minimum twice the age of Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan. Like, yes, neither Mobei-Jun nor Shang Qinghua are old old by the standard of the PIDW world. Yes, MBJ and SQH are stunted as all get out. But the fact that they have bare minimum 2x the life experience as Bingqiu is, in my opinion, funny as hell and severely underused in fanfiction.
Like, imagine Mobei-Jun unintentionally dadding new demon LBH in SVSSS. Mobei-Jun being like, “Don’t eat the meat from this monster. It makes you hallucinate.” Or being like, “These people aren’t politically important enough to be shown this kind of respect. Look down on them properly and go sleep, or no one will ever respect you again in demon politics.”
MBJ looking at SVSSS LBH and SHL like, “Damn, who raised you?”
Because, like, I love to joke about Mobei-Jun being an oblivious fool, but that’s in regards to human culture. Mobei-Jun operating on demonic culture + his level of arrogance in regards to how he’s handling SQH suggests that MBJ can be politically savvy among demons when he wants to be. Also, the mental picture of MBJ being like, “Eat your weird demon vegetables, there’s nothing wrong with them, you picky half-breed brat,” is extremely funny.
I’ll probably turn this into a separate post.
Shang Qinghua does  not  miss the man’s unconcealed  “oh, great, some of my favorite problem people are back, probably with bad news”  expression when they arrive. The man is not at all impressed to hear about the drugged-up Shadow Cave Wolf Spiders or the evil, murderous, madness-inducing plant they fought on their mission, but the Qian Cao Peak Lord is reluctantly, partially placated by the jar of three-eyed skeleton tears Shang Qinghua super thoughtfully brought back for his inspection. Mu Qingfang really likes his research projects!
Shang Qinghua lets himself feel kind of good about this gift - he’s the man who gets things and gets things done - and ignores the Weeper’s Eye whispering in his head,  “He has resigned himself to the untimely deaths of everyone he knows.”
(Wow. Oh, Shang Qinghua knows that feeling!)
-
AN: Mu Qingfang doesn’t think that everyone around him is inevitably going to die, he’s just extremely aware of how dangerous the world is and how reckless cultivators can be. Also, for many years, he was fairly certain that Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu were headed for bad ends.
This felt like a good place to insert some optimism back into the sect in general. Luo Fanli has been cured and is willingly going to visit her sister, Liu Qingge has got a hold on his self-destructive tendencies, Mu Qingfang thinks things are getting better, Shen Qingqiu’s health problems have been essentially fixed, Qijiu might actually work their shit out, Shen Yuan shares his real name with Shang Qinghua, and so on and so forth.
It felt like a good contrast with and buildup towards Luo Binghe’s Skinner mistake (not everything is rosy yet, there are still growing problems), the secret basement, and the encounter with Bing-Ge.
Only to flip that around and then bring some surprise Moshang into things!
“I have now been informed that, after learning that you had returned and, at the very least, completing the duties that were intended to have him reflect on his actions, he has disappeared yet again,” Shen Qingqiu continues. “This second disappearance has set some of the other junior disciples into a renewed panic, which has concerned some of the senior disciples, which was, apparently, cause to alert me.”
 “Ah,” Shang Qinghua says.
-
AN: Shen Jiu should not be in charge of a bunch of children, but it is funny to imagine him going through the same “be a less shit person” adoption process as Shang Qinghua. Like, oh, it would be so easy for him to be cruel about this situation, but fuck you if he’s going to be outdone in the recovery and redemption process by Shang Qinghua of all people.
Shang Qinghua: *grows into a kind of decent person*
Shen Jiu: “Fuck you. That’s not allowed.”
Shen Jiu: “...”
Shen Jiu: “Well, if THAT FUCKER of all people can do it...”
Shang Qinghua doesn’t have to look long or far to find his nephew. He finds the young protagonist sitting despondently on the doorstep of his own Leisure House, sniffling into his sleeve. Peerless Cucumber of all people is sitting beside him and keeping him company.
“Focusing on other people’s lives is easier than looking at his own.”
“-think a drowning man first has to save himself… or else he’s only going to bring down the people he’s trying to save,” Peerless Cucumber is saying.
 Binghe nods.
AN: Going by, like, the everything of SVSSS, Shen Yuan really is the asshole going, “I’ll die before I look inwards to recognize and deal with my own emotions.” Also, going, “Yes, I’m a hypocrite who won’t take my own advice. And what about it?” What a repressed nerd.
Shang Qinghua clears his throat to get their attention. Both kids (well, teenager and young adult, but still...  kids)  look up and then stand up quickly. Luo Binghe takes a forgetful step forward, before he wobbles into an appropriate respectful bow instead.
 “Shang-Shishu!”
“How dearly this boy is loved!”  the Weeper’s Eye declares, in its soft way inside Shang Qinghua’s head.  “More than life itself! More than death itself!”
“Ah, never mind all that,” Shang Qinghua says, and steps forward to wrap his nephew in a quick hug instead, keeping the creepy talking eye oriented away from his nephew. “You’re a little too late to talk to me about your mission before your shizun did.”
Binghe, who was just relaxing into the unexpected hug, freezes.
Shang Qinghua knowingly pats the poor young protagonist on the back.
  “Oh, shit” is right!
AN: Uncle Shang really is adorable. Still kind of knocks me for a loop writing it, though, given that the SVSSS SQH and LBH relationship is... nothing like this whatsoever. Look upon the field of SQH and LBH content and see that it is relatively barren except for the stubborn motherfuckers with excellent taste in character exploration.
-
“Ahhh, well, I’ll be there too for this potential family reunion, bro,” Shang Qinghua assures him. “Maybe we can finally get to the bottom of where this ‘Shen Yuan’ name came from.”
Peerless Cucumber makes a strange expression.
 “What?”
 “...It’s my name.”
 “What?” Shang Qinghua repeats.
“It’s my name,” Peerless Cucumber says again, quietly. “It’s my real name.”
 “Oh.”
“Huh,” Shang Qinghua thinks, having been operating on the assumption that the System made the name up for its mysterious backstory. Well, that gives new dimensions to Peerless Cucumber’s criticism of the scum villain!
“You can use it,” Peerless Cucumber says, with an air of determined nonchalance. “Everyone else is doing it.”
 “Ah, alright. Thanks.”
AN: This is probably the part where I would have made Shang Qinghua reveal his original name in turn... IF HE HAD ONE. It drives me... kind of wild that we get the Airplane Extras and we STILL don’t get 1) Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky’s original name, and 2) MOBEI-JUN’s name.
Which actually makes things a little more interesting here, in my opinion, even though not having those names gets a little frustrating in terms of fanfiction writing. With Mobei-Jun, you get to explore the fucked up possibilities of him not having a name outside of his identity as the future Northern King. With Shang Qinghua, you get to explore him being a squirrelly little fuck who refuses to let anyone into his life.
So, because we don’t have Airplane’s name, we actually get this mildly interesting dynamic in which Shang Qinghua doesn’t even really think to reveal it to Shen Yuan. We don’t see this part, but Shen Yuan is actually a little miffed by this degree of secrecy, which is going to come up later. (Shen Yuan doesn’t like the fact that Shang Qinghua has as much power over him as he does.)
I personally do not hold the headcanon that Airplane’s name was “Shang Qinghua”. It’s a little too on the nose for me. At that point, the only reaction to transmigrating into SQH kind of has to be, “Ah, well, I was asking for that!” Maybe Airplane projected his worst qualities onto Shang Qinghua, but I don’t think he went so far as to give the character his own name.
Airplane’s main identity when he died appears to have been Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky, and we know that he wasn’t particularly close to his divorced parents and any step- or half-siblings. So, the only names that are really relevant post-transmigration are “Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky” and “Shang Qinghua”. By the time that SY gets here, he’s firmly entrenched in those identities, and his original name is completely irrelevant. I could honestly believe that Airplane just doesn’t think it matters anymore.
Shang Qinghua’s nephew, in the way of a true young protagonist or  fucking cannon fodder, got the bright fucking idea to slip away to speak with the concubine called Butterfly privately.
“I thought: what if she didn’t want to speak in front of that lecherous old man? What if she wanted to get away from him?” Binghe confesses.
“She was the demon,” Shang Qinghua guesses.
Binghe nods, voice breaking. “It was…  I was  really,  really stupid, Uncle.”
“Well, at least you know that,” Shang Qinghua sighs, and pats his sniffly nephew on the back again.
Oh, he can see why Shen Qingqiu was  pissed the fuck off now. Shang Qinghua kind of wants to start yelling! Or maybe just screaming, coherently or otherwise!
Except yelling isn’t going to help much right now.
Shang Qinghua listens as Luo Binghe recounts being captured by the demon and then waking up bound by Immortal Binding Cables - of being so terrified that he could barely breathe with it. His only hope was Ning Yingying and Ming Fan tattling on his disappearance and a senior disciple tracking him down on time. The skinner demon apparently nearly killed Binghe, crooning over his young and beautiful skin, except a flash of warm light intervened and dropped an unstable part of the ceiling in on them before they could hurt the captured protagonist.
“Fu-Shijie and Shizun arrived after that and k-killed it,” Binghe says. “Uncle, it was all  stupid luck!  Shizun said I should have been dead and that, between my efforts and the demon’s, he had no idea how I wasn't! And he was right! It was  so close! If the ceiling hadn’t fallen in like that-! Fu-Shijie suggested the ropes might be faulty and it could have been an unconscious use of spiritual energy, but I didn’t do anything! It wasn’t me!”
It  sounds like the System to Shang Qinghua, intervening again at a crucial moment to prevent the premature death of the protagonist. Just thinking about how close his nephew came to dying without him knowing is nearly enough to inspire a cold sweat! Shang Qinghua can’t speak about the System, so all he can really do is keep hugging! Keep holding on for dear life and saying soothing nothings to his crying nephew!
AN: I wanted to include the Skinner mission, but I didn’t want to redo it onscreen because that’s been done in many fanfictions before and I felt that there was really no good reason for Shang Qinghua to be a part of it. The reason I wanted to include it is to show how the plot is off the track of the SVSSS (and PIDW) stories, with the changed LBH and the changed Original SQQ.
LBH wants to be a hero, but he’s not there yet.
“...Don’t put yourself above him… or below him. Tell him what you want and listen to what he wants, and don’t be surprised if things don’t change all at once,” Shang Qinghua advises and, at Yue Qingyuan’s look, quickly raises his hands. “Ahhh, not my business, I know! Not my business! I just… I hope it works out! I hope you two get something better out of this mess! Aha, make the sect meetings a little less awkward and… things.”
“He has never known what better looks like. He will always be Yue Qi, the slave boy. No matter what he does.”
“...Thank you,” Yue Qingyuan says finally, thoughtfully. “I appreciate your… restraint in this matter… in recent months.”
 Aha, yikes.
-
AN: I know that some people wanted more stomping on Yue Qingyuan, but... like... this man is as or nearly as traumatized as Shen Qingqiu. His childhood fucking sucked. He broke his own soul trying to save Shen Jiu and failed. He made some shit decisions where Shen Qingqiu was concerned, but the logic and trauma he’s operating on are pretty obvious. He was trying.
Part of the theme around the Qijiu and Moshang arcs has also been “an eye for an eye”. Like, are you guys really going to keep on not communicating with each other and then fucking up and then taking chunks out of each other? How many misunderstandings and upset over misunderstandings are you going to throw at each other? Where do you put your foot down and say, “I don’t want to live like this forever. We can be better than this. I want better than this.”
Like, it can’t just be hurting each other back and forth (this applies to Qijiu more than Moshang, in which MBJ definitely carries the weight of this fuck-up). It can’t just be privately nursing hurt feelings forever. The options here are “fix it” or “live like this forever”. Fixing it won’t happen immediately, but the other option fucking sucks, so every little step helps.
So Shang Qinghua here is just like, “Bro, I’m tired. My anger has cooled a lot. I just want all our lives to suck less. I hope things work out for you.”

Hi I'm the one who brought up how you made Moshang art with similar concepts and I just want to make it clear that wasn't a critique or making fun of you, that was me being excited because I loved those ideas and I was happy to see more of them! I love your stuff and I love seeing your art as you explore your concepts. I just wish I had the cash to spare for patreon lol
Oh no worries, I didn’t take it as criticism, not at all! But I did have to clarify to people that I rip off my own ideas because I knew it would take forever to get to those comics, and Moshang was taking over ever thought I was having so combining them seemed like a fab idea.
I’m really glad to hear that you enjoy my stuff! And I’m aware the Patreon isn’t something that many people can afford to support, but rest assured that I WILL get through the comics, and they will be free to read at some point! I’m thinking that once I have 3 or 4 series as a buffer, I’ll be able to start posting the older ones publicly, which... yeah it may take a while, but it’ll be posted at some point, so even if you can’t afford it, at some point in time, you’ll still have access to the comics!
