We love Alois and I did draw him a couple of times! We posted some of the stuff here, but everything that wasn’t posted on tumblr can be found in this kuroshitsuji log on pixiv.

I’m not planning on drawing him in the nearest future, but since he is very special to us, it might randomly happen at some point…

We talked about our Kuroshitsuji ships some time ago, here is the post if you’re interested! But in short, we kind of ship him with William because their interactions in the Circus Arc were hilarious and William was 100% playing hard to get. I don’t think I’ve even drawn them at all, but I should do it at least once… I should draw all of our Kuroshitsuji ships at least once, to be fair :(

Ironically, we don’t have any ships or even thoughts about Grell, sorry for disappointing! Maybe it’s due to the fact that while we were hating on Kuroshitsuji all those years (dark times lol), Grell was pretty much the only character I would draw anyway because of the cool design… But not really, to be honest; it’s actually more likely due to the fact that none of the Grell ships really clicked with us :( As for the position, it’s easy to see Grell as a bottom, but it doesn’t really help in this case.

YES This is the treatment Silver deserves, his father would be so proud lol a little jealous, but still!

It is fun though... I always say it, but twst cast is very interesting, so a lot of characters who seem to be just a random pick could have such nice chemistry that it’s easy to start shipping them after just one interaction or a voice line. I love it so much lol

If you think about it, Ortho is the perviest and the most knowledgeable person in NRC, even if he isn’t actively aware of all the kinks in the world. To think that only 5 minutes of buffering time separates him from being completely unaware and him having seen the entire collection of sex machine porn videos… And knowing Ortho, he’ll definitely want to try some of the things irl lol

Hi, Anon! Sorry for the late reply.

I haven’t talked about it, and unfortunately I still can’t really talk about him. We are very intrigued by both Fellow and Gidel, but we haven’t seen their event yet. So I can’t make proper judgments and come up with any headcanons :(

We don’t really care about the EN release because we watch fan translations on youtube, but we just don’t have time to watch anything these days unfortunately. But when we do watch it, you’ll definitely notice, because there is no way I won’t draw Fellow at least a couple of times. His design and his sleazy faces are just too much fun lol

I wrote a portion of this for someone else who asked (privately) a month back - tutorial under the cut!!!

OK so when I was discovering artists on the internet for the first time - I found the artist rei (twitter/pixiv) and her work had such a strong influence on me. She draws influences from anime, renaissance, baroque, etc art movements. What's really mesmerizing is the way she uses colour to portray mood and light, and how colours just seamlessly mix into one another, as if the canvas is still wet or that it looks printed on a sort of holographic material. You can see this colour technique a lot among Chinese speaking artists on weibo. 

To really make your light values stand out, you can add what Andrew Loomis calls "brilliance" to the edge of your lighting. That's just what Loomis coined it as - I believe it's related to subsurface scattering. You know like when you put your hand against a strong light and you can see the light filter through your fingertips, showing a warm colour? That's subsurface scattering. According to wikipedia it also appears through marble, wax, leaves, milk. I’m not an expert so you can look into this more on your own!

I think you'd have to read the actual page Andrew Loomis explained it in, since in the tweet it's presented without context. I haven't read it. If you're doing more photo/semi-realistic art you'd have to study the technique a lot more hahaha.

It can also happen in "dappled light" - like when you look at the cast shadow of a tree's leaves on the ground. The shadow has a warm light edge.

Since I'm personally not making realistic art, we can exaggerate it a bit, and the placement of the light edge doesn't have to be realistic. I even do it for shadows because why the hell not. It’s art. art is painful as it is. make it fun whenever u can

let’s just upload this image again so we don’t have to keep scrolling up and down. The colour edge depends on the base colour of the object - if the object is predominantly warm, I may add a cool edge (e.g. the blond hair in the top left - Mint Adenade from Tales of Phantasia). If the object is cool, a warm edge will stand out (e.g. the ruffles in the left middle - Alyss from Pandora Hearts). But really - play around with it! The dark robes and the tights on the right have a cool edge around the shadows, but the lapel on the robe has a red edge to illustrate it’s a different material/object. 

You can do this in a few ways - A. draw it in manually to be selective. This is probably the best way to go about it. B. Or if you want to save time, you can: 1. select the light/shadow layer (Layer > Selection from layer > Layer selection in CSP, or right click your canvas in PS and hit “Load selection” etc etc). 2. Make a new layer. You can choose to expand the selection by a few pixels or not, it’s a personal preference. (Select > Expand selection in CSP.  Select > Modify > Expand or Contract in PS). 3. Colour it your light edge colour. 4. Adjust the opacity if needed. I usually just go around opacity 50% in Normal, I don’t use layer modes, but you can use them if you want.

And that’s that! I find that this technique works well for my personal style because I prefer using more desaturated colours, and it helps bring contrast to the image. The colour edge is cool since I don’t really have to rely on colour adjustments when the artwork is complete nowadays - since the desaturated colours are part of the appeal, but there’s enough contrast with the light edge to give it appeal. depends on your personal workflow though. I don’t think I did this colour light edge a lot in my work until recently. but my 2019 jjba buttons and 2019 ib buttons seem to have some of it too :0

This is a bit different but you can find the colour edge contrast idea a lot in older art. I recommend looking through 1700s-1900s ish art history movements. Florian Aupetit has some free art history resource packs! These are more stylized examples, but you can find it subtly in a lot of other artists’ work. Especially for portraiture like with John Singer Sargent and religious paintings like Alphonse Mucha’s (his painted, non-flat art), or light-focused movements like impressionism. (In case the text isn’t visible: Dean Cornwell on left & middle, Claude Monet on top right, Mead Schaeffer on bottom right)

I’m not the creator of this technique so use it to your heart’s content. Hope this was enjoyable and hopefully a bit educational!

I'm not sure where the fish motif came from but it's one of the most common repetitions in their art. They draw fish a bit less now, but art with fish used to, and probably still does, outnumber art without fish.

Layer 3 -

The "its all connected theories" bit references chi and yuu being in shimeji simulation and people trying to piece together how their worlds are related.

Tkmiz used to have a tumblr account where they used to upload short animations. It sat dormant for a long while before they decided to delete it not long ago. Surprisingly, unlike all of their other past accounts, they decided to preserve the contents of this one and you can view them all as an extended video on their twitter.

Layer 4 -

self inserts: the black haired, rectangle glasses scientist is basically tkmiz's self insert, no matter if she's ishii in glt or shijima's sister in shimsim.

gender: related to above. tkmiz's personal projection being a girl, themes of lesbianism, and even mentions of crossdressing/wanting to be a girl have led to fans that are in-the-know to debate on what tkmiz's gender identity might be; this is also why I refer to them with they/them pronouns. It's no surprised internet trans girls love tkmiz.

irl photos: I've never seen a definitive pic of what tkmiz actually looks like, but in the past they used to semi-frequently post pics of their living space. Backyards, sunsets, what seem to be the entrance to their apartment, what they ate for dinner, etc etc. Nothing too exciting.

Gon the dog: related to above. Tkmiz used to have a dog named Gon who they would occasional post a pic of or draw. Sadly Gon is now deceased.

Suicide and wine: many of tkmiz's older works have heavy themes of suicide and alcohol abuse

Fanart: they rarely draw fanart anymore but they used to do so much more regularly. Notable references are girls und panzer, gunslinger girl, nekojiru, yume nikki, eizouken, and their oldest artworks are all touhou fanart.

Layer 5 -

Parasociality: this is in reference to tkmiz becoming a cult classic within certain circles of the internet, most notably depressed lainbrains and sad internet trans girls. Ya know, nerds like me

Artbook havers (me): a few years ago tkmiz published a physical print artbook that's now long, long out of print.

Deleted Twitter: the majority of tkmiz's works are no longer available because they were either on accounts that don't exist anymore, or tkmiz deleted them along ago from their current profile.

B2 Bomber: related above. I believe tkmiz had two different pixiv accounts, both of them long gone, and 'B2 Bomber' was the oldest. If you want to see a tiny glimpse of their second pixiv on the Wayback Machine, their ID was 1535101.

Historical art inspo: tkmiz went to university to become an art teacher before dropping out. Many of their older works are references to more well known paintings, especially the works of Gustav Klimt who seemed to be a favorite.

Irl life info: We don't know a lot about them, the enigmatic personality is by design after all, but we do know a few things. Like them being a college dropout, using the proceeds from the glt anime to take their parents to an onsen, etc etc.

Layer 6 -

2chan: much of what remains of the art and posts that tkmiz tried to nuke were preserved by members of 2chan.

Nsfw flan doujins: oh boy where's where things first get interesting. Long, long ago the first manga that tkmiz self-published were lolicon h-doujins of flandre scarlet from touhou. There were three of them, followed by a completely safe doujin called "flan wants to die" which is still easy to find.

Comiket tables: related above. If you dig hard enough, you can find the convention floor vendor lists that mention tkmiz and their booth number from when they had to sell their h-doujins by hand. I think they only sold one of the books at comiket, the other two were sold at different conventions and only ever in very limited psychical editions like most h-manga of the day.

Layer 7 -

The Shimeji Prequel: There is a very ancient comic from back before tkmiz had much artistic experience (even before the aforementioned flan doujins) that still features a girl who kind of looks like shijima (and chito, they probably began as the same oc) and another character that's identical to tkmiz's self insert/shijima's scientist sister. The comic is nsfw in nature, and proto-shijima gets eaten out by her classmate named Yoshiko who immediately dies. Because there are many references in modern shimsim to this character (or someone kind of like her) its believed she's still cannon, is the reason for Shijima locking herself in a closet for so long, and will likely be a plot revelation later in the manga. I doubt the oral sex will be mentioned though.

Layer 8 -
