Good Omens Fanfic Friday (08 Mar 2024)
Probably the smallest list I've made yet, due to the sheer size of #RAINBOWROAD.
#RAINBOWROAD (407K; Rated E) by @nieded
Human AU. This has been recommended on the GO subreddit several times now, and for a very good reason. It's an extraordinary series that I honestly can't say enough good things about. No, really, I can't. I'm lucky these sentences are coherent, because I'm so addicted to reading these I'm living on the bare minimum amount of sleep needed to keep my brain from melting.
There are currently five completed works in the series and a sixth in progress, but the main story is told over the three long works, so there's no reason to wait for the sixth work to be finished before you start reading. You could skip the two shorter ones completely without it affecting the story, but they're both just as interesting and well-written as the main story.
Crowley is a veteran Formula 1 driver whose personal life caused a rather unpleasant fall from grace. Now he drives for the only team that will sign him, and he's constantly scrutinized by the team's management for any sign of bad behavior. Aziraphale, who in this story is called Ezira Phale (first and last name) is a rookie F1 driver who is picked up by a new team run by distillery owner, Gabriel and his sister, Michael. #RAINBOWROAD is both a beautiful and realistic love story between the Ineffable Husbands and a story dedicated to the author's love for racing.
You don't need to know anything about Formula 1 racing, because the author explains everything in such a fascinating way that you'll be talking pole positions and using words like chicane and name-dropping real life drivers in no time. I literally didn't even know which kind of racing Formula 1 was until I googled it, and this story will make you fall in love with the sport (even if I still don't intend to actually watch any races). (If you like how Old Vines (190K; Rated E) was an exquisite ode to wine and winemaking, this is similar).
And the characters! I LOVE Ezira and Crowley so much here! Ezira has enough of Aziraphale's traits that he doesn't feel like a completely different character, but he's a 25-year-old adrenaline junkie whose first love is driving very fast cars, not books or food (though he still loves both). The author does a great job of making Ezira very good at his job but not supernaturally so. He's a rookie driver; he's not magically better than the top people in the field (including Crowley), but you can see the talent there. His placements feel very realistic. Crowley is probably a little closer to his demon counterpart, from his clothes and shades to his snarky personality. He's extremely good at his job, and like Ezira, he loves what he does.
Newt makes an appearance as another F1 driver, while Anathema is an engineer. The Them and Warlock are all grown up, working as mechanics and engineers for various teams. Beelzebub is Crowley's agent, and their snarky and short-tempered, but secretely soft, personality works really well with Crowley. There are some great original characters, too, who will stick with you just as much as the canon characters.
The second book is very angsty, but it does get better by the end. I had to take a day off reading it and take a look at some lighter stories before I could go back to it. But once I did, I forewent sleep to finish it.
The third book is set several years later when they're both veteran drivers and a well-established couple. I haven't finished it (because I did have to actually sleep at some point), but the author writes that it's more fluff-oriented than the first two, and I have no reason to doubt them.
This is one of the most professionally-written and utterly fascinating Good Omens stories I've read yet.
***
A.Z. Fell & Co. Est. 1800: The Bookshop Chronicles (as told by Yelp) (18K 11/? chapters; Rated T)
Normally I only recommend stories that are complete or nearly so (within a couple of chapters), but I feel like this story can be read without waiting for the whole completed story, because currently it's seasons 1 and 2 (and in-between) told through Yelp reviews of the bookshop. This is the kind of genuinely delightful story that keeps me smiling from the first moment, especially when Aziraphale and Crowley start bickering in the comments. Then there are the commenters who are convinced Aziraphale and Crowley are cryptids and present some rather convincing evidence. The Whickber Street shopowners pop in on occasion, along with Jimbriel and Inspector Constable. Try to read it with the workskin on, because the author makes the story look like Yelp reviews.

Do you have any advice as to how to find your first office job? Feeling quite hopeless, as I've only worked in a warehouse and now work in a call centre. I'm attending part-time university, but it still doesn't feel enough to get one as I keep getting rejected.
So my first piece of advice is that getting rejected, and getting rejected lots, is normal. It's awful and it's stressful but I don't know very many people that skated into their first job stress-free, no matter their academic credentials. So hopefully that gives you a little comfort, keep it mind when you're feeling really down about the process.
It's hard to be specific without knowing more and things would work well in one area might not work well in another. So without the specifics, my best advice is to (1) try to build up a narrative and fit the potential role into your narrative, (2) think about alternative routes or going above and beyond, and (3) think about where you're applying.
On (1): You've worked in a warehouse and now in a call center. So one approach could be to fit the things you learned in those roles into a narrative and make the job you're appluing for the natural conclusion of this path. So if you were applying for secretarial roles, you could spin something along the lines of 'Working in the warehouse taught me to be organized and efficient, but I wanted more interaction with people so I moved over to call center X. And while that was nice from an interaction perspective, I've realized that I want to help people in a more consistent way, not just once on the phone, which is why I think being a secretary would be a great match, utilising my people skills and my organizational skills.' Don't be afraid to draw on non-traditional job experiences either. Weekends spent babysitting your three young cousins? Multi tasking. Running a weekly D&D session? Reliability, event planning, organization.
The idea here is you're building up a narrative and you're showing how your skills (wherever attained) fit and why the natural conclusion of all this is that you should get the job. It's much more storytelling than list making, particularly when you don't have the most natural experience. And make sure everything you submit is grammar and spelling perfect (have a friend or family member or even a friendly local librarian check).
On (2): this is going to be location and, to an extent, industry specific but think about if there's anything slightly alternative or above and beyond you could do. For example, in Chicago if you were applying for a role in a small business, coming around the office to drop off your application in person would go down really well (maybe call first to check people are in the office in the days of hybrid working). In the UK, there are apprenticeship programs available that might be a good fit (my company does them! You'd be surprised how many there are). It's hard to be too specific here, but things that show you're dedicated and committed can help. And going along with that...
(3): Think about where you're applying. If you have a slightly more alternative background, it can be easier to get your foot in the door in companies that are more flexible. Small businesses are generally your friend here, they're often looking for a person who's a good fit rather than the exact right experience. A big law firm is less likely to hire someone without relevant experience than a local high street lawyer, so consider concentrating your efforts. And if you do live in a smaller, tighter knit community, going around (dressed professionally) to local businesses and explaining who you are, handing out CVs and asking them to keep you in mind if they need any help might be a good idea.
Good luck pal, I'm rooting for you. This is going to be hard, but you only need one job, and after getting the first one it gets easier. Try not to get too discouraged, keep plugging away and eventually something will come. Good luck!

i finished ur book ahhhh!! aaAHH!! i love ur characters so much i love isaac i love mirai i love christine i love them all!!! i have a questión.. if ur characters were to have "normal" nonmagical professions, what do u think theyd be?
i'm so glad you've enjoyed it!! you're also the first person who has admitted they love isaac! how does that feel :3c
i feel like my little cast of misfits would boil down to "professional couchsurfers/bums" but here are some Actual Thoughts put into things!
vivienne would be a professional student. she makes money participating in tests and trials and studies, plus publishing the most niche academic papers you can imagine, and gets consulting fees for even more niche stuff. no one is precisely sure what her field of expertise is anymore.
dana is still a bookshop manager because she enjoys it :3 walker would still be a law intern, too, and emil & christine would still be teenagers. (emil would work part-time at the bookstore. christine probably volunteers in her free time, when not grinding for a 4.0+ gpa.)
mark runs a self-help shtick. blog posts, webinars, in-person vaguely therapy-ish meetings, he's published two books, etc etc. is it a job? who knows. it does make him money, however, and he's good at encouraging people, so there's that.
natalie runs a moderately successful etsy store selling homemade cosmetics, bath bombs, scents, and some one-off pieces of jewelry. she has excellent email customer service but enjoys not having to do in-person customer service.
isaac would work as a freelance beta tester and probably help with indie games on the side, plus freelance video editing for streamers when he gets bored/needs cash.
sam is a professional Good Boy. (omg could you imagine him as a professional cuddler)
mirai would be like. some sort of adrenaline junkie youtuber/influencer. they just do the most batshit things you can think of, make videos of it (while screaming about the safety measures you should take that they're ignoring), and get the most random sponsorships you can imagine. isaac occasionally helps edit their videos into something approaching coherency. but only sometimes.
megan is still in med school hell, i'm sorry. it's their calling in life.
codi would probably be [REDACTED], still mistaken for an assassin by dana.
lucien would've invested early in apple and amazon and now is a professional rich asshole.
thomas would be a high school teacher, either english or history, the type that also teaches one-off classes like psych and anatomy or something because they can't get a dedicated teacher for such a small part of the curriculum. he also coaches both basketball teams. he gets very into it, especially during games, but ofc the high schoolers think it's hilarious and egg him on.

The most typical sources of pool water loss
One of the most annoying parts of owning a pool is fixing leaks. Leaks are problematic because they can waste water and chemicals and damage the environment if they go untreated. If you want to avoid more problems, you need to find the leak's origin as soon as possible.
So, where do you usually find those annoying leaks? The pump and filtration system is a frequent focal point. Seals and gaskets wear down and grow loose over time, enabling water to leak out. If you keep an eye on these connections, you can discover any leaks before they get out of hand.
The pool's own walls and floor are another potential leak point. If the vinyl liner or plaster surface has any tears or fissures, water can slowly leak out over time. If you notice any discoloration or moisture in these spots, it may be a sign of a leak that needs fixing. Also, make sure you inspect the lights, skimmers, and return jets carefully. Over time, normal wear and tear, or changing earth beneath the pool, could loosen the connections of these components. It is crucial to check for leaks in these connections on a regular basis.
Don't overlook the importance of buried pipes! Even though leaks in underground plumbing lines are more difficult to observe, puddles of water in the yard around the pipes can be an indication of a problem.
Never forget that fixing even a minor leak right now will save you time and money in the long run. If you don't know how, ask someone who good

Trash Bin Cleaning Service
Tumblr media
Trash bins are one of the dirtiest items on a property. They are the temporary home for many substances and a breeding ground for unwanted pests and bacteria. Keeping them clean and smelling fresh is important to ensure your property's curb appeal. Read more here about the best garbage can cleaner.
If you're thinking about starting a business in the trash can cleaning industry, you should know that it's not easy. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and money. You'll also need specialized equipment to get the job done. You'll also need to learn the ins and outs of running your own company.
Before you begin, it's essential to review your startup costs. A good idea is to use a service that offers a no-obligation quote. This way, you'll know exactly what to expect. A good company should also offer a guarantee. This includes re-cleaning the can if it isn't satisfactory.
Typically, a trash can cleaning service will charge between $50 and $80 for two or more bins. However, this amount can vary based on your geographical area and the frequency of your service. Most companies offer a cheaper rate for regular customers. If you're looking for the lowest prices in your area, check out 3A Eco Cans. They offer two-for-one pricing in the Midwest.
As a trash can cleaning service, you will have to decide if you want to provide a one-time or weekly service. Most services prefer to stick to a predictable schedule. But, if you're the type who walks by your trash can every day, you might want to consider scheduling a more frequent cleaning.
The best trash can cleaning service will use a special machine to blast water at over 200deg. This sanitizes your trash can and removes any dirt or germs. It will also deodorize it with a long-acting lemon fragrance. Lastly, a trash can cleaning service will notify you when it's done. This is a nice touch, especially if you're a homeowner who doesn't usually interact with your trash collector.
Trash can cleaning is a new and growing industry. The best part is that the startup costs are relatively low. In addition, you don't have to worry about franchise fees or insurance. This makes it a viable business for those who don't have the time or resources to run a traditional brick and mortar store.
The right equipment and a little know-how can make you a success. Trash cans are an odor magnet, and they're often located in close proximity to windows and outdoor living spaces. If you're able to make it a point to keep them clean, you'll see an increase in your overall curb appeal.
If you're unsure about how to go about setting up your own trash can cleaning service, consider enlisting the aid of a professional. These companies have specialized equipment and training. They can handle toxic materials, and they have experience. They can even help you market your business.
When you're ready to start your own trash can cleaning service, you'll need the capital to invest in the equipment and vehicles you need. You'll also need to have a website and an email address. This is where you'll be able to communicate with customers and pick up new ones. Education is a never ending process, so continue reading here: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/cleaning.

When he decides to completely indulge himself in something he's doing it earnestly. He's also not a risk taker, he's the type who's constantly worrying about things. Perfectionist of sorts? He just wants everything he puts his mind on to be as good as it possibly can. That's why he's actively trying to avoid love matters since he's so busy with making his life work nicely for him. Person like him looks cold from the outside but in reality he has a big heart. He looks up to his sempai and respects his superiors.
When you appear in his life he'll be formal, as usual, until you make a move on him bc otherwise he won't take the initiative. It's too risky for his heart. It'd be even more difficult if you were his colleague because colleagues dating within the same unit is against the rules. If this happens, the couple is given the choice to either end their relationship or one of them would have to leave the MPD which is lowkey giving him a heart attack.
He's afraid bc when he falls for someone he falls too hard and does reckless things, he hates this side of himself. Will pin you to a wall behind their common workplace at the station and kiss you all over. He's passionate and soft and slow and sensual. He can't think straight, it's just the way you make him feel. Your colleagues often wonder why you come out of the corner looking all disheveled. He's fixing his tie and his well-put hair is now looking messier (and hotter but you're not supposed to say this aloud).
Is putting extra effort in his looks, in his free time he's dressing in oversized shirts, sweaters, cuffed and cargo pants, and all that jazz. You're teasing him ab it but he doesn't mind it bc he knows that you find it hot. Will always be expecting you with a small surprise such as bouquet of flowers or sweets, he's a big romantic. Will slowly dance with you in the middle of the room while following the rhythm of the music. He never shows this side of himself to anyone, only to you. It's the way he's showing you his trust in you.
He's overly protective of you and although he doesn't want to admit, he's a little possessive. If someone's raising their voice at you during work, he switches from "calm reserved Ryo" to "angry boyfriend Ryo" and puts himself in front of you to have a "little chat" with whoever you're having problems with. Everyone notices the change in personality but pretend they didn't see because they knew how much you meant to Hoshino. They were all good friends in MPD, they didn't want to hold grudges against each other.
When you're sent on missions he always makes sure to give you lower-risk tasks, he's always looking after you and going extra mile to ensure the completion of your work. His colleagues think he's wasting time bc he used to work more efficiently before his obsession with you and him pampering you. He's trying to convince them otherwise but no one believes him. It's a running joke between your colleagues.
There were times when you saw him utterly devastated such as when Haru refused to work with him and went with Daisuke to England. He was sitting on the bed holding his head in his hands grieving. He blamed himself for being such an ass towards him and he hated himself. You didn't like to see him like this since you knew how much he looked up to Haru and you wanted to call him to give him a lecture but he begged you not to do it. Too late, you already tapped the "call" option and he panicked. Not knowing what to do, he kissed you and continued making out with you and you could hear Haru's voice on the other line "Hey y/n, what's up?... Hello?... Mby she called by mistake.", he hang up. Hoshino was never rly encouraged to prolong his kisses but this was urgent and once you parted you couldn't help yourself but to be amazed. This turned into something more later in the day.
When he's in mood he gets clingy, hugs you behind your back and kisses your neck and ears. He whispers the most beautiful of praises and encouragements. Sweet talk is his thing and he's showing you just how much he loves and appreciates you. Sometimes it brings you to tears because no one ever loved you like this before. He's feeding your heart with so much positivity and he's genuinely happy to have this effect on you. He kisses your forehead, tells you that you're his beautiful angel and that he'll protect you from everything in this world. You're convinced in his words because of how overprotective he acted towards you when at work.
If you're the later shift you'll arrive home greeted by rose petals on the floor leading to a certain room. You're getting all blushy bc you can already assume where this is going. You enter the bedroom and see bed covered in rose petals, candles on furniture and silent music playing in the background. He gets out of the bathroom in only a towel and he's surprised to see you arriving a little earlier than expected. You just jump on him, kiss him and you make out like there's no tomorrow.
He likes long walks, his favorite is taking you on the beach during a sunset. He'd listen to you talking like this forever and the landscape looks truly amazing. If you get a little playful, you'll spray him with water and he'll scold you like a worried bf he is bc he can't allow himself to let you get a cold. He always worries about things and you're assuring him that everything is fine. Night looks beautiful and the starry night sky gives the whole ambience a completely new meaning. You can't take your eyes off of the stunning view and he's hugging you closer to himself, in moments like this he'll tell you that you mean the entire world to him and he'll keep you warm or buy you smtng to eat. He's spoiling you so much and you're the luckiest girl alive. You never ask for much, you're modest but this won't stop him from trying to meet your expectations and getting your approval.
Of course, there are times when he gets extra wary when you're talking to other guys. He's not questioning your loyalty, he's worried of them making a move on you and the sole thought of it fills his heart with rage. He can be an asshole sometimes when he's having his doubts and you need to tell him to calm down bc he's making everyone uncomfortable. He apologizes, but only to you because he feels like he doesn't owe them anything, he's this stubborn.
Sometimes he brings up stupid topics while lying in bed with you before sleep like fear of losing you one day bc your job is too dangerous and his mind gets clouded with dark thoughts. That's why he's so afraid of getting too attached to someone, if he loses you he'll lose himself and before he continues ranting any further you take his hand in yours and lean your forehead on his. You tell him that nothing will ever happen to you as long as you're with him and that's enough to make him calm again.
He's not exactly skilled at cooking so he appreciates it v much when you teach him certain things. He's not lazing around, he's listening to you rly carefully and taking notes on important things you tell him. You reward him with a peck and he gets cuddly. You still can't believe that such a softie works as a police officer. You ask him what motivated him to choose this job and he said that he looked up to his dad a lot. His dad was one of the highest ranked men in their department and he died protecting other people. He was a literal hero and many remember his name till this day. Therefore, out of respect and in memory of his dad, he decided to become a cop as well. Besides, he always wanted to be someone's hero and he finally found someone who could make it all happen.
When he gets stomach ache you offer to massage him and although he refuses bc he doesn't want to bother you, you do it anyway and he melts into your touch. It's not like you mind it since his body is slightly toned and you need to contain yourself because he's so handsome and yet you need to concentrate on his pain. You take such good care of him, he gets goosebumps and is so grateful. He wants to return the favor somehow but there's no need to bc of how mindful he constantly is of you and he loves you so much. His heart is full and he always has that dreamy look whenever he spends time with you. He loves it when he puts his head on your lap and you caress his hair and face. Your hands are soft and warm and he's in bliss. He hums and feels so much better with your treatment. You scratch his scalp and he buries his face in your belly. He's lying turned to the side on purpose so you couldn't see certain things but you notice from how his back is slightly hunched and you just know. No one can make him feel this way the way you do.
When the crew is traveling by a police van there's a possibility that there won't be enough space for everyone to sit in so Hoshino will stand up for you to occupy his seat but you sit on his lap instead and everyone is looking at you. Hoshino is blushing and whispering in your ear that this wasn't such a good idea but you continued talking about how the van is too small and criticized it's lack of equipment. During patrols he's sharing his food with you if you didn't have enough and if you get hurt he'll always help you out or even carry you. Your colleagues already knew what's going on between you two but they decided not to tell boss. They found you lovely and gave you their full support.
On the other hand, they're teasing Hoshino because he always supported the idea that work should be done with seriousness and dedication. He's blushing and telling them that he's trying to be as professional as possible. Their colleagues appreciate the more relaxed and humanistic Ryo rather than the workaholic one they all got used to. They talk casually with him and ask him some love advice but then he gets angry and tells them to go back to work. Noup, nothing changed. Workaholic Ryo is still present, he just accidentally showed them his new side, that's all.
He's the one who doesn't appreciate theme parks and crazy rides but he'll go with you if you really want to. He never really talked about this before but he's afraid of heights. He thinks he's a party breaker but you actually don't take him to ferris wheels or roller coasters. You take him to everywhere else like water rides, bumper cars and he's absolutely in love with shooting games at the stalls where he can win you a toy. You stayed at the arcade section for at least two hours. You had so much fun that day and no one felt sick on top of it.
Haru found out about you two eventually and teased you bc he claimed how he knew this entire time. He's so happy for you and he's congratulating you. Daisuke isn't interested whatsoever but he decided to mess with Hoshino a little bc he can and bc he's a millionaire bastard. He invited you to his high-end restaurant for his top-noch first-class dinner to test if you were docile and if your relationship was real. Daisuke couldn't care less about your preferences, he just wanted to see Hoshino's reaction. You politely declined and Hoshino became dangerously serious which surprised even Haru, he never saw him this angry before. Haru concerningly asked Daisuke if he went completely insane and he just said that he got his confirmation. He turned around, entered his expensive car and Hoshino couldn't believe the audacity of this guy. Haru just shrugged and said "it's Kambe".
You want to take him to a karaoke night and you're being so enthusiastic ab it but he's shy, he doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of everyone else and especially in front of you. You somehow manage to convince him and you came to the bar. When he starts singing you realize that he's actually good at it. You tease him that he's a man of many talents, he's flattered and tells you that you're not so bad yourself. Now you're trying to persuade him to wake you up every morning with his nice singling and he gets soft just by thinking ab it. You really are his angel and more.
He really enjoys cuddling with you in a blanket while watching a movie and snacking on something at night. Whoever falls asleep on the couch first gets covered in the said blanket, gets a pillow tucked under their head and the other goes to their bedroom. Hoshino will carry you only if he feels like it, besides, he doesn't want to disturb your sleep. He'll make sure you get properly covered before leaving.
He loves baths with you bc they're rare. He always takes a quick shower before work and making time for you to do something like this is super relaxing for him. He'll scrub your back, smear the foam everywhere and it's the best feeling ever. You'll do the same for him and massage his scalp, he's living for it. After a tiresome day at work he's definitely looking forward to things like this. He's kissing your shoulder and you're surprised. You make out and you need to keep it down so you wouldn't overflow the bathroom floor. It's funny to you how he doesn't find sharing a bed with you sexual while he does sharing a bath. He says it's bc you're naked at the moment and you say that he could as well just take your pjs off, that there's no real difference. He's all flushed bc he can't find the appropriate answer and you laugh.
However, he does get hot and bothered when you're testing his limits. He'll dominate whatever happens from this moment on but if you insist on taking the lead, he'll let you. You don't know how he knows certain things and you suspected that he had girlfriends before, you're jealous and he told you that he's actually just well-informed. You're so smug at the moment and he's replacing this expression of yours with a new one full of want. He's passionate and mindful and he's completely weak to your own happiness. He could entertain you like this for hours and he's v open to conversation and exploration of what you want. He's v loving and caring and you can't get enough, it's like an addiction.
He'll drive you to work and many already noticed that you come together most of the time. Your colleagues are being dorky and calling you a "cople", you're blushing and he tells them to go back to work, he secretly enjoys their teasing.
He kisses your cheek while you were typing something on your laptop. Boss saw it, you panicked and Hoshino said that he wished you a happy birthday. Boss noted that it was, indeed, not your birthday and that he knew through your resume. Hoshino replied that he has mistaken the dates and you laughed. Boss huffed in amusement, you two were so obvious that even the blind could tell. He allowed you to be with each other as long as you're not doing lovey-dovey things at work, you were good assets to his team so he didn't want to lose you. Hoshino's eyes were basically shining and you were glad. He was so pessimistic ab the outcome of this possible situation but now he's grateful and he cherished your relationship even more.
It's his birthday and you surprise him by dressing as a sexy cop. You say kinky stuff like bad boys going to jail but he's such a good boy and the joke is literally useless, you make him laugh tho. He suggested to play bad cop good criminal scenario so he took your handcuffs and used them on you. Now he can't see you the same way during work anymore. It was the best birthday gift.
He takes you to a little trip at the botanic garden and it's so amazing there, being surrounded by such beauty is a wonderful experience. You sit at the bench and feed the swans in the lake. You have no idea how Ryo comes up with ideas like this but he never ceases to surprise you. Every day is something new with this guy and it's always a positive thing. He knows how to make you relax after a stressful day at work and he makes you smile when everything seems like it's falling apart. You tell him you love him, it comes out of nowhere and he's just so happy. He wants to make you feel like this all the time. Only then does he know that he's succeeding as a boyfriend and making sure that you end up with someone who actually deserves you.
You wake up the next morning, head towards the kitchen and notice that something smells rly nice. Was Hoshino cooking? You take a look and sure enough, he was making a breakfast for you two. You approach him and kiss his cheek, telling him good morning. He reduced the fire, picked you up and seated you on the counter. He kisses you and tells you good morning as well. At one moment he looks insecure and you ask him what's up. He says things like you being the key ingredient for spicing up his world and he's covering his face from how cheesy and stupid it sounds. Hoshino trying out cooking jokes was hilarious but you're so in love with him and you kiss him and say smtng cheesy in return to make him feel better. You take a taste of his food and it's great, you love it. You feed each other and he looks so adorable when he's munching on it.
When he's sick you find it hard to leave him by himself since you want to help him as much as you possibly can and he's telling you not to do it bc he'll spread it on you. You don't listen, partly bc he's just as same and would rather spend time taking care of you than doing anything else. The boss knows in advance and is already counting on backup whenever something like this happens. You don't need to inform him, it's already clear to him that whenever one of you gets sick, the other will soon follow.
He takes you to hanabi festival, you're dressed in yukatas and watch beautiful fireworks in the distance, it's one of the most amazing sights to see. He gets down and you squeal bc YES it's finally happening! You've waited for this moment in so long. He apologizes, his napkin just fell and you're disappointed like never before. "By the way" he says as he's reaching for a small square box in his pocket, you squeal again and he opens it, revealing an elegant-looking ring tucked in puffy inserts. He asks if you want to marry him and you shout the long expected "yes", you're hugging and crying and he can't believe his own eyes, he became the luckiest guy in the world.
@narcopharmacist These are the HCs I was talking ab. Hope you like it. ^^

Bellarke AU where one of them is an FBI agent, and the other is a federal prosecutor that has to go undercover. Maybe they're fake dating! Maybe they encounter danger! The sky is the limit!
“Hey, I need your help with something.”
Bellamy looks up, surprised but not upset to see Clarke Griffin standing by his desk with a hopeful expression.
“My help?”
“It’s your job, right? Helping out citizens in need?”
“That’s exactly what the FBI does, yeah. What’s up?”
“I’ve got a lead I want to investigate, but it’s kind of–I don’t have enough to really justify putting anyone else on it, but I want to check it out.”
“So, obviously, the answer is to get an FBI agent on it. That’s how I like to do lowkey investigations.”
Clarke rolls her eyes. “Do you want to hear this or not?”
To be fair, there’s no universe in which he doesn’t want to know what kind of investigation Clarke would want his help on. She’s a federal prosecutor, and a good one; they’ve worked together on a few cases before, and sometimes hang out at government functions. He’d be offended if she came to anyone else with whatever request she has, honestly.
“Obviously. I’m dying of curiosity.”
“Don’t laugh.”
“Honestly, that pretty much guarantees I’m going to laugh. But tell me anyway.”
“I’ve got a mail fraud case.”
“You’re investigating mail fraud?”
“It’s a federal crime, Bellamy!”
“Yeah, but it’s mail fraud. How much time does it even make sense to dedicate to mail fraud?”
“I’m sorry, are you saying we shouldn’t look into crimes that aren’t flashy enough?”
“I’m saying I’m not sure why you need a federal agent on this.”
“Because I shouldn’t be on it alone and I figured you might be willing to help out. I just want to investigate a little. Look into it. It might be nothing, but if it’s not—“
“Yeah, the cut-throat world of mail fraud is definitely something you need backup for.”
She crosses her arms over her chest, not amused. “So, you’re saying no?”
“No, I’m just making fun of you. What do you need? I do have a real job.”
“It’s still official federal business. I can work around your schedule,” she adds, when he keeps on looking unimpressed. “Just let me know.”
He sighs. “Yeah, I can be pretty flexible. As long as I can take off in case of emergency.”
“Obviously.” Her smile is warm. “Thanks, Bellamy. I appreciate it.”
“No problem. Mail fraud’s a new one for me.”
“So it’ll be a learning experience.”
He snorts. “Exactly. Just tell me where and when.”
*
Technically, mail fraud is out of Bellamy’s jurisdiction, and he should have passed Clarke along to the postal service investigators, but it’s not like Clarke doesn’t know that, and she came to him anyway. And, well, he likes her. Any excuse to hang out is a good excuse, in his opinion.
Still, he’s not actually sure what they’re supposed to do.
Clarke told him how to dress and where to meet her, so at least she has a plan. And it’s a Saturday, which means, on the one hand, he’s giving up his free time for this, but at least he’s not actually doing this on work time.
And he can think of worse ways to spend a day than hanging out with his favorite federal prosecutor. Especially when she’s buying him brunch.
"So,” she says, once they’ve ordered. “We’re a young couple looking for a new apartment.”
“Wow, this relationship is moving pretty fast. I feel like I just found out we’re a couple.”
She kicks him lightly under the table. “It’s a housing scam. If it’s a scam at all, I’m not sure.”
He takes a sip of his coffee. “Okay, why don’t you give me the background here. How did you find out about this? I didn’t think you did a lot of fieldwork.”
“No,” she grants. “It’s actually my neighbor’s tip.”
“Your neighbor?”
“She’s a sweet old lady, but she can be kind of–paranoid. Her grandson got a letter about an apartment that sounds too good to be true. He’s excited, but she took the flyer he got and called and they wanted to get all sorts of information from her over the phone, and apparently the apartment still hasn’t materialized yet.”
“That does sound pretty sketchy,” Bellamy admits.
“Yeah, but part of her argument was also that it was in a bad neighborhood and he’d be moving too far away from her if it was real, so–” She shrugs. “It’s hard to tell how much of it really is a problem and how much of it was just her taking everything her grandson told her in the worst possible way.”
“Which is why you’re not immediately reporting it to the proper authorities?”
“She gave me the address, so I figured we could just swing by. If the mailing is real, it’s a new apartment building with a lot of open units, and I googled it and found a pretty convincing website. So if it’s a scam, it’s a detailed one. I figure we can look into it, get a sense of what it’s like, and, yeah. If it seems like a real issue, we report it.”
“Do you have the mailing?” he asks, tapping his mug with one finger.
She roots through her purse and produces it. It’s the kind of thing he’s seen before and usually just throws away without a second glance, standard spam mail. But if he was looking to move, he might pay more attention. The prices are good, not quite suspiciously good, but good enough he’d definitely be interested if it caught his eye. There’s a contact number, email, and website, as well as an address for the apartment complex and viewing hours.
“Huh,” he says.
“Yeah. I honestly don’t know.”
“It could be all of the information is legit except for the contact stuff,” he points out. “Or at least somewhat legitimate. There really is an apartment complex there, it really has openings, but whoever sent out the mailings is giving their contact information instead of the real contact information.”
“They could be,” Clarke admits. “It seems kind of risky to me? Just–all someone has to do is go to the actual site and ask about it and they’d know it was wrong.”
“All anyone has to do about a lot of scams is their due diligence. That might not be it, but it’s worth thinking about. We should grab their literature, compare it. If it looks similar enough, they might not have ever realized there were fakes going around.”
“That’s true. See, this is why I wanted you to come along, you have the background I need. Do we need to use fake names? I’ve never gone undercover before.”
He snorts. “Okay, we’re not really going undercover. Right now we’re just two concerned citizens looking into something for a friend. Seriously, this isn’t my jurisdiction,” he adds. “I can’t be here in an official capacity.”
“So TV lied to me and FBI agents aren’t constantly stumbling over cases in their everyday lives that become personal vendettas?”
“Only if they’re in our jurisdiction. I do run into serial killers all the time, though.”
“At least there’s that.” She smiles. “Thanks for doing this with me. I know it’s not your thing, but–it just seems so likely it’s going to be nothing or not a big deal, I felt weird reporting it.”
“If you see something, say something,” he says, and she snorts.
“Well, we haven’t seen anything yet, right? Once we’re sure, that’s when we say something.” She nudges his foot under the table. “Seriously, fake names?”
“I think we can just stick with–” he starts, and stops. First names is pretty easy for most of his colleagues, when they want to keep a low profile, but he tends to introduce himself as Blake, since it’s so much less conspicuous. Bellamy and Clarke are kind of memorable. “Do you have a middle name?” he asks instead.
“Elizabeth,” she says, sounding a little smug.
“Okay, so you can go with that, and I’ll go with Blake. Still technically our names, just–less memorable.”
“I knew I could count on your expertise.” She smiles. “But seriously, thanks for helping me out with this. I know it’s not your job.”
“Literally,” he agrees, but he can’t help a smile. “No problem. It’s not like I was doing anything else.”
*
The apartment complex looks a good deal like the one on the mailing, albeit a little less shiny and new. They clearly took the picture on the sunniest day when the place was at its newest, and it’s already losing some of its polish.
“Okay, so, we’re a couple looking for an apartment,” says Clarke. “All I really want to do is see a unit and ask about the flyer. Is there anything else we should be doing?”
“Check the amenities they listed,” he says. “See what that looks like. It doesn’t have to be a mail scam, they could still be doing false advertising. And see if anyone’s actually living here.”
“Such a professional,” she teases, and then she slides her hand into his, which makes him feel distinctly unprofessional. He’s holding hands with a girl he likes, and it feels like a huge deal, like he’s a middle schooler and not a federal agent.
“Okay,” he says. “Let’s do this.”
*
It doesn’t go wrong right away. In fact, after twenty minutes of a benign, almost mind-numbly normal tour, Bellamy’s ready to bail on the entire thing. Clarke’s still holding his hand, which is a major plus, but it seems like they could probably just hold hands somewhere else. If she was enjoying that part as much as he was.
Their agent is finally starting to wind down, though, so he figures he’ll be done soon. She asks if they have any questions, and Clarke, still somehow on task, pulls out the flyer. “Is this contact number correct if we need more information?”
The woman glances at the flyer, clearly about to say yes, but then she does a double-take, eyes widening as she takes in the information.
“Oh,” she says, careful. “Yes, that should be a correct number. Let me go and make sure, I believe that’s an agent who’s no longer working with the company.”
It doesn’t take a federal agent to think that reaction is weird, and Clarke clearly notices as well. Bellamy looks around the reception room as discretely as he can, spotting a small camera in the corner with a blinking red light to indicate it’s recording.
So they should act natural.
“What do you want to do for dinner tonight?” he asks Clarke.
“Dinner?”
“I don’t think we have anything in the fridge, but we went out for lunch, so we should probably stop by the store on the way home.”
As he knew she would, she catches on quickly. “Yeah, that would probably be easiest. Maybe that chicken I found on Pintrest last week?”
“The stir fry?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah, that could be good. Pretty easy. Do you remember what was in the sauce?”
“Nothing we don’t have. Soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar.”
He could kiss her. He probably would, if he had a good excuse.
“If we forget something at the store, it’s your fault.”
She rolls her eyes. “We can figure out substitutions if we have to. But just chicken and vegetables should be fine. We have rice?”
“Yeah, I think we’re only like halfway through that giant bag.”
“Good.” She frowns, deliberate, and goes to the reception desk. “Is everything okay?” she asks the receptionist. “If there’s another number we should call–”
The receptionist gives her a customer service smile. “Just another minute, ma'am,” he says.
“The email address should still be fine,” Clarke says. “I wrote it down, we can just go.”
He thinks it’s a deliberate gambit. He can see from the slight anxiety in her eyes that she’s baiting–someone, and he gets it, but he’s not really sure he approves. On the one hand, he has trouble believing there’s really anything that shady about the flyer.
On the other, they agent was clearly not comfortable with them having it, and there must be some reason for that. He wouldn’t have recommended this exact tactic to figure out what, but judging by the expression that flickers across the receptionist’s face, it seems effective.
“I’ll just let them know you’re ready to leave,” he says, and Bellamy’s FBI instincts kick into high gear. He’s not sure what they’re going to do–committing any kind of violence against an unassuming middle-class couple seems several steps past stupid–but if they think this is just a cover, well.
It is just a cover. They’re two government employees who have stumbled on something weird. This doesn’t tend to have a happy ending for the two of them.
“We really should get going,” he says, and Clarke nods and starts for the door, and that’s when it goes wrong.
*
“I can’t believe we actually found a mob front,” Clarke says.
It wasn’t the worst fight Bellamy’s been in, and now that it’s over, his main takeaway is that Clarke is scrappy. He’s into it.
“I can’t believe your neighbor’s grandson was so stupid he let his grandmother take his coded mafia correspondence,” he grumbles, and she laughs.
“Okay, yeah, thats definitely the second least believable part of this whole thing.”
“What’s beating that?”
Clarke tucks a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. “I thought this was a totally bullshit made up issue and I just asked you to come check it out with me because I wanted an excuse to hang out.”
“So, the best excuse you could come up with to spend time with me was investigating mail fraud? Jesus, haven’t you ever heard of a date?”
“Investigating mail fraud is kind of a date!”
He snorts. “Wow. That’s—honestly, I think we can do better. Maybe just start with dinner. I actually do know a pretty good chicken stir fry recipe.”
She laughs. “So what you’re saying is that mail fraud and mob fronts actually work on you as a seduction technique.”
“Apparently, yeah. Not that you really needed to do anything special.” He offers his hand; they both got checked by a doctor and gave statements, so they’re done, at least for now. And he’s ready to be anywhere else. “You in?”
She lets him pull her up. “I’m in.”
