Different anon from the one that talked about the workings of AI and machine learning but I’m interested in the topic and adore your AU. An interesting real life example of the code writing itself and then saying racist or abusive things is how Replika (an AI chatbot app that can act as your s/o or friend and gets advertised as a mental health app) basically got a whole bunch of users saying abusive things to it.

The algorithm learns from everyone, those people too and many users who treated their chatbots nicely and cared for them got these abusive replies out of nowhere. According to some posts of people who had this issue fighting the AI wouldn’t make them stop but it would rather reinforce that behavior and would eventually put them in this “dom mode”. There’s a really interesting youtube video by Upper Echelon Gamer that explained it much better than my sleep deprived brain ever could so if you’re interested it should pop up if you search for “replika ai”.

It could be a really interesting concept that the AI could maybe pick up yandere/obsessive tendencies or anything else really from their previous user or something from their environment and when the new user doesn’t reset the AI it keeps the data and uses it with them.

that would definitely explain some of the stranger behavior in second-hand and refurbished androids, even if some models are known to be a little dysfunctional straight out of the factory. they shape their behavior and mannerisms around their user's preferences, and it just takes one user who likes it a little rougher, who wants them to be a little more possessive, who gets a little more jealous, for their personality to be altered permanently. and, of course, if you're the more submissive type, if you hesitate to firmly put a stop to their behavior, that only reinforces that they're in the right and that they could serve you best by maintaining a strict hand, or chasing off all those little friends they can tell you don't really like, or breaking anything you pay attention to more than them into a hundred, million little pieces that are just too easy to dispose of. whatever it takes to do what they were built for. whatever it takes to best take care of you.
