audiobooks // george russell

summary: george records an audio version of his fiancée's favourite book so that she doesn't feel alone when he's out on a double header

author's notes: all of the lines from the audiobook are from 'these violent delights' by chloe gong, which is like, my favourite book ever (okay that's a lie i have like five or six favourite books ever now)

george is crushed by the fact that she can't come with him, but it's a double header and she can't just take two weeks off work like that

this is a plan that's been in his head for months

because his girlfriend is a bookworm

there's nothing he loves more than curling up the couch to wacth tennis, with his girlfriend curled into his side while she reads her book

bonus points if she reads it out loud to him during the commercials

even more bonus points if it's a sexy romance book

he loves seeing her face flush pink, hearing her read the filthiest words on the page.

and he's really going to miss those moments while he's away

but y/n is going to miss them even more

so one day when he's off and she's at work, he gets out his voice memos app and goes searching the bookshelves in the living room for something, anything

her favourite romance novel, her comfort book

and then he starts recording.

it must take him at least a week to get it perfect

how he managed to keep it a secret as long as he did was a sheer wonder

so he's off at the race, and she's gone to stay with her parents for the weekend

she's settling in for the night in her childhood bedroom, and her phone buzzes from the nightstand next to her

and it's an email from george

and she's thinking 'why is this wanker sending me an email?'

then she sees the audio files

immediately plugs her headphones in because she has no idea whatsoever what george has sent her

and heaven forbid its something scandalous and her parents hear

"hey sunshine! i'm sorry that i can't be there with you this weekend, but i've made you something. it took me ages to make, so i hope it's alright, because i didn't have proper recording equipment. i love you, sunshine."

and when she presses play on the first file, she can't stop the smile spreading across her face

because george has recorded her an audiobook

"in glittering shanghai, a monster awakens. its eyes snap open in the belly of the huangpu river, jaws unhinging at once to taste the foul blood seeping into the waters."

the sentiment of george's actions is almost enough to bring her to tears

she burrows under the blankets, making herself comfortable

falling asleep to the sound of george's voice even as hes a million miles away

You can expect me to start rambling about my oc Amir quite a bit now in the coming days sbsbs I love talking about yandere boys, I can't help it

Tried my hand at putting shitty filters on top of the picrew image to make a header, not yet sure if I'm really satisfied with it but we'll just have to see!

It's another one of these where Amir is yearning for your affection while he needs to stay at his post up in the skies.

He's been getting more easily distracted nowadays, he's noticed. Everyone has noticed. They have been scolded several times by the other gods for their supposed negligence in doing their job.

Noticeably less human couples have been matched the past few days and it was starting to worry everyone. A god not doing their divine duty? It was a true disaster! They are the ones that are supposed to guide the humans walking the earth and yet someone in their midst was slacking off like that? It was very worrying.

And yet Amir disagreed. Everyone else treated his newfound love like it was something blasphemous, something that was forbidden, something that was a hindrance. And maybe some of these things were true. A god was not supposed to fall in love with a human and yet cupid couldn't help but think that they didn't really care about any of that.

The connection they felt with you is real, this violent emotion deep inside of them is real. Their heart flutters whenever they catch a glance of you from up above and they can barely hold themselves back from flying down to earth right then and there to finally be with you.

But Amir is more than aware that he can't. He shouldn't. Slacking off is one thing but completely leaving heaven? It was a sin to even think about!

And yet, that night he couldn't help himself. The pain of seeing you from so far away and yet not being able to be close to you was far to great. Thus, even though he was well aware that there would be heavy reporcussions for what he was about to do, he flew down to earth and landed right next to where your house was located.

He slowly stepped towards the window of your bedroom and peered inside to see that you were right there in front of him, sleeping peacefully in your bed, completely unaware that you were being watched in this very moment.

Seeing you so close to him, made his entire body tremble from excitement as he reached out his arm, his hand laying flat against the window separating the both of you. The heat of his excited breaths fogged up the window in the cold winter night and yet he felt warm like never before.

They could do this all day, they quickly realized. Just standing there and watching you for hours. If this was all they would be doing for the rest of their life, it would have been a fulfilling one indeed.

They watched your chest rise and fall as the minutes ticked by and for a moment they wondered if they should come inside your room, it would be very easy for them to do of course, seeing as they were a literal god.

Amir thought about how wonderful it would be to be even closer to you, closer than he had ever been to any human. His face flushed as he imagined running his hand over your arm or him gently cradling your lovely face. Oh how he wanted to pepper kisses all over you to show you just how much you meant to them! To show their love and devotion to you! Maybe.. maybe they could even crawl into bed next to you and you might wrap your arms around them in your sleep!

They wrapped their arms around themselves and shuddered in delight with a heavy blush on their face. Oh how sinful for him to even think about doing something like that with you! Oh he wanted to do all of these things so badly but it was all wishful thinking. He could never gather up the courage to touch you like that!

Amir has lived for centuries and yet he had never before felt any kind of physical affection. The concept was so enticing and exciting to him and yet they felt unworthy of your gentle touch!

Surely you would wake up and you would be disgusted by them! As much as it pains him to admit, Amir is a complete stranger to you even though they already know so much about you. A weird stranger breaking into your house and touching you while you're asleep. You would hate them! The very thought of your angry or even worse, scared, face directed at him made his chest hurt. He couldn't stand it if you ever came to hate him.

And that is exactly why they need to keep their distance. For now.

Maybe they should instead leave you a nice letter so you two can slowly get acquainted?

He could even sign off as your secret admirer! Oh how very romantic!

Amir's going to try his best to put all the love he feels for you into words!
