🌟 "Stand and Deliver" is a song by British new wave band Adam and the Ants, released as the lead single from their third studio album, Prince Charming (1981). It was the band's first No. 1 hit in the UK. The phrase "stand and deliver — your money or your life", used in the lyrics, is commonly associated with highwaymen in 18th century England.
‘Adam already had this idea about a highwayman. He'd gone off in the kitchen to make some tea and by the time he'd come back I'd come up with the “galloping” verse. The verse is the same as the chorus, but there is a little descending bit which he came up with. And then there's the verse and different key for the guitar solo. Adam came up with the “Da diddley qa qa” lyric. He'd had that line knocking about for ages.'
-Marco Pirroni.
Adam picks up the conversation: 'Marco and I wrote the music together and I wrote the lyrics and top line. My inspiration for the song came from the idea of the heroic English antihero highwayman holding up a stagecoach, but stealing people's attention instead of their valuables.'
‘I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.’ Adam explains.
‘A revolution took place in the early 80s. Music suddenly had to look as provocative as it sounded.’
-Adam Ant.
‘We wrote "Stand and Deliver" and Prince Charming at the same time,’ says Pirroni. ‘Before I even picked up the guitar, I knew they were going to be No.1. That wasn’t me being arrogant. In my head it was just a fact.’
🌟 Marco Pirroni recalls going round to Adam’s house in Kensington to write "Stand and Deliver".
🌟 "Stand and Deliver" earned Adam and Marco an Ivor Novello award in 1982. It is published by SONY/ATV Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing.
June 23 was the birthday of the queen of Punk, Pamela Rooke better known artistically as Jordan.
▪ Jordan first saw the Ants at their residence at the Man In The Moon pub in Kings Cross supporting X Ray Spex.
▪ Adam was dressed in a rapist mask and physically the audience or rather what was attacked left of them!
▪ Throughout the start of 1978 Adam and the Ants played around England building up a solid fan base.
▪ In the late 1970s, she served as an early manager for Adam and the Ants. They also managed to record four songs (Puerto Rican, Deutscher Girls, It Doesn't Matter & Lou) for the first of their three BBC Peel sessions for Radio 1 in January.
▪ After this they completed the tracks Plastic Surgery (The movie too) and Deutscher Girls, which were to be used for the Jubilee soundtrack album.
▪ Jordan also helped in the image of Adam in the 70's in his Punk era since he wanted the ideas from him.
▪ Jordan and Kevin on their wedding day, June 1981 (they divorced in 1984). Kevin Mooney was a member of "Adam & the Ants".
▪ Once she retired from the artistic world, she dedicated herself to being a veterinarian, helping many little animals.
▪ Unfortunately she left us on April 3rd- 2022.
She forever she will be the Queen of Punk... Jordan!
• Before June is over I wanted to dedicate a post to the queen of Punk since on June 23 she would have turned 67 but in April 3 she passed away due to cancer. She will forever be remembered from generation to generation❤ •
/ I want to thank all the people who like my content and reblog my posts ♡
It makes me very happy to return to Tumblr and find new followers, reblogs and hearts to my posts! This Tumblr dedicated to Adam already turned 1 year old in April.
Thank you very much to all! /
➡'Stand and Deliver' was released in 27 April, 1981. It features Adam Ant dressed as a "dandy highwayman" who threatens his victims with the mirror image of their unfashionable selves and who is captured and escapes being hanged from the gallows with help from his accomplices (his band members).
