Can anyone advise how to care for a ghost pokemon? They keep banging the cupboards and howling at night, and I don't know what it wants

I don't really have any specific advise for ghost types. You could try to talk to a specialist--There's a guy named Morty in Johto that is a ghost type gym leader, he may be able to help.

If I had that problem, I'd beat them out of the house. Not having any of THAT noise.
