when i first heard btob was joining the kingdom lineup, i was most worried about the voting system. because let's be real, all these competition programs are just about popularity and it was shown in mnet's decision to make fan votes 50%. i don't think btob ever did a competition program (i might be wrong?) but they do have the skills and experience to perform WELL (i was never worried about what they will show because of that). anyway it was just nice to see them challenge themselves and do more grand stages because they don't do it often.
i don't think they've been on a competition program either? not of this particular style at least. kingdom was definitely a very fancy popularity contest, and btob were at another disadvantage because of that. but in addition to making bomb-ass stages, they also worked really hard to make themselves likeable off-stage too. this is what i meant when i said they were good variety guests; being funny and likeable on variety/reality programs is its own skill, and one that not all people are good at. i think that they're all ridiculous naturally but they absolutely funnelled that energy very pointedly for kingdom and it paid off! there was a reason they were a lot of my favourite reaction moments. the fact that they ended up fourth in the final rankings (and first of the non-fourth gen groups) is really impressive and i'm very sure they've gained a lot of new fans!
