#the war of the southlands part of the fic will probably just be like five chapters long
While I edit the second part of One Last Dance, here's a mini snippet of a scene I'm currently working on! Not going to lie, it was a lot of fun to write. And, better yet, it's a really wholesome scene too.

She crouched down behind him and wrapped the rope around his wrists. “Tell me if it is too tight.”
“It’s fine. You can go tighter.”
“Halbrand.”
“Tighter.”

Yeah you read that right, we're going to get some light bondage! 😏😏😏

Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 5 of your favorite authors!

Tagging: As always, I’m terrible at this. Please pretend I tagged you if you see this and want to do this. I swear you’re my favorite author.
Favorite: This probably just speaks to the degree that the fic was written to be as self-indulgently tailored to the tropes I like as possible, but I pick In Memoriam Mei: an immediate snapshot of sensation and setting that lets me segue into describing my fave being weak from hunger and haunted by his ex.
Patterns: Okay, so aside from the obvious and intentional parallel between the openers of Transit and Constellation, what really stands out to me is that I seem to really like opening with something that invites you to look to the perspective character’s past: something that establishes how things have been going recently or a callback to an impression they had as a child or a statement of fact about their personal history. I sometimes also pull the move of opening with a sudden, dramatic one liner.
I also... have apparently just been really into describing Lionel these past several months.
1. Amulets and Fortunes (Final Fantasy Tactics, Balmafula/Ovelia)
There was a conspicuous silence at first when Valmafra found herself alone with the queen, and it was clear whose absence gave way to it.
2. In Memoriam Mei (Final Fantasy Tactics, Zalbag/Wiegraf)
Zalbag closed his eyes, and the world seemed to float with him—with the snow and the clouds and the great bird upon which he rode.
3. Echoes (Final Fantasy Tactics, Zalbag & Dycedarg)
“I killed that girl, you know.”
4. In Their Far Venture Stay (Final Fantasy Tactics, A Gaffgarion Christmas Special)
When Gaffgarion had been a boy, he had joined the war with an eye to serving his country.
5. The Impure King (Final Fantasy Tactics, Wiegraf/Izlude, feat. Horrible Lucavi Times/Izlude)
It was the deep winter season, and Lionel glittered with lantern lights, the roofbeams of inns and the facades of shops having been decked with ribbon and rowan berries.
6. Hatreds (Final Fantasy Tactics, Ramza & Algus)
Ramza had tried many times over the past five years to find the thread that still tethered him to the boy at Ziekden.
7. The Unbroken Wheel (Raphael’s Portrait of a Lady with a Unicorn)
“I look as though it annoys me.”
8. Muzzle Flash (Final Fantasy Tactics, Algus/Mustadio)
The Marquis had diverted their company to Lionel, apparently more interested in paying homage to the high cathedrals of the southlands than in meeting Larg’s sense of urgency.
9. Transit (Final Fantasy Tactics, Delita/Olan)
The thing that Olan liked least about Delita was that he never asked him to tell his fortune.
10. The Fugitive Serpent (Final Fantasy Tactics, Wiegraf/Izlude, feat. Horrible Lucavi Times/Izlude)
“Is it wise to send two auracite across Lesalia in the hands of innocents, Hashmal?"
11. Arms (Final Fantasy Tactics, Mustadio/Ovelia)
Ovelia had never fired a gun before, but Ovelia had never done many things.
12.  Ghost (Final Fantasy Tactics, Ramza/Orlandu)
It was not yet dawn, and Cid was watching the last of the stars fade away into the reddening sky.
13. Reckoning (Final Fantasy Tactics, Vormav/Cletienne)
Cletienne was used to being thought clever.
14. Vassalage (Final Fantasy Tactics, Larg/Dycedarg)
It would have been stranger, Dycedarg often thought, were they to speak of it.
15. Lesser Carnivora ( Final Fantasy Tactics, Algus/Izlude)
When Izlude had last seen Limberry, he could not have been more than eight.
16. A Parting (Final Fantasy Tactics,  Gaffgarion/Dorter Thief Who Throws His Hat on the Ground)
Goffard G. Gaffgarion was a man used to terminating relationships of a discrete and contractual nature, and he felt increasingly put out that the young swain he’d spent an agreeable Dorter summer with hadn’t the mind to ask for anything transactional.
17. Favor (Final Fantasy Tactics, Ovelia/Ramza)
It could not have been that Lionel was so different from Lesalia, but to Ovelia’s sight the world had undergone a thousand transformations.
18. Apogee (Final Fantasy Tactics, Golagros Levine & his 2 braincells)
It wasn't that he'd set off imagining that Miluda Folles would fall into his arms and he'd be hailed as the revolution's savior in the midst of a dip and a kiss.
19. A Whited Sepulcher (Final Fantasy Tactics, Delita/Izlude)
When he had been a very little boy, Delita had thought Mullonde was a person.
20. Constellation (Final Fantasy Tactics, Olan/Ramza)
One of the things Olan liked best about Ramza was that he never asked him to tell his fortune.
