Finally completed my Venture Bros rewatch by watching the companion piece and prequel to the Morphic Trilogy, Sharky's Machine
Speaking as someone who enjoys old 70s/80s crime films, I probably would've accepted being flushed into the cold vacuum of space midway through

I’m proud of my boy the Monarch lying his ass off to better himself right after an extremely traumatic event and making it sound believable tonight.

i know this kid is probably supposed to be Hector, but i’m gonna be tinfoil hat here and say that it might actually be the monarch as a kid. his whole face and features aren’t at all like Hector’s: he has a very pointy nose, and a curved jaw that looks an awful lot like rusty’s. We’ve also been presented with a lot of water imagery regarding their relationship. Water has a lot of connotations to it– Usually with depth and that which is obscured. Jonas Venture’s office, which looks into this swimming pool, also does a lot of heavy lifting in the series: it’s where Rusty played with Tara (who is heavily hinted as his half sister), it’s where he hid the ORB, and it’s where Jonas and the original Blue Morpho have their final argument in the “Morphic Trilogy.” Throughout those episodes, the windows looking out into the pool are used as screens by Jonas to look back into memory, as well as his eyes, meaning the room and the pool are directly linked to the concept of the mind itself. It’s because of this that I don’t think it’s an accident there’s a kid jumping into the pool here directly behind Rusty’s head (literally projecting his subconscious) when he’s in therapy and talking about his past.  In the Morphic Trilogy, the Monarch has a dream while passed out beside Wide Wale’s pool about Rusty: he’s swimming, happily calling out to him, and Rusty complains that it’s too cold. The Monarch’s response is very strange, he says “Oh, you are never there for me.” This statement implies an intimate relationship, a grievance of the Monarch’s that seems to plague him. He even uses similar language when he fights with his wife all through season six– He accuses her of not being on his side, of not being there for him. This makes sense, he was orphaned and likely has a deep seated fear of being abandoned– and his reaction to Rusty not being involved in their relationship is perhaps best telling of all. He literally shoots Wide Wale’s brother screaming “You abandoned me!” while picturing Rusty Venture. His little comment while he floats in the water reaches into the present (their relationship as villain and protagonist) and far into their past (their relationship as friends). Though their bodies are adult in this dream, I think the Monarch is actually projecting their adult selves onto a childhood memory that he doesn’t know he has. I don’t think the dialogue they share is accurate to the childhood memory, but clearly there is a vague deep-seated recollection of being at a beach with Rusty, and trying to get him to come in the water. With the idea in mind that being “in the water” is to be diving into one’s consciousness, I think that in the scene of the Monarch’s dream, Rusty stays on shore as if to say “I don’t want to remember,” and the Monarch dives in starting to remember, only to “drown” and re-awaken when Rocco pours water on him.  I just was re-watching and saw this kid again and thought “what if?”  At the end of the day, even if this kid is just meant to be Hector, the fact that he seems to be jumping into a pool and having fun right behind Rusty’s head, who has been relegated to a biased therapy session with his father where he complains about wanting to be a “normal kid” is quite telling. At the very least, it speaks to a constant separation from the normal world and the world that Rusty has to live in.

FIC: Residual Effects/Affects
Title: Residual Effects/Affects
Summary: Dean comes to the conclusion that he has to leave home. Post Morphic Trilogy S7 AU. Same Universe set before Same Shit, Different Day.
Residual. Nanobots.
Dean had woken up that morning to someone writing on his stomach from the inside. He’d seen his grandfather’s disembodied head. And yet, when the dust settled and they were all watching the parade from their roof, that one word, “residual” haunted him the most.
Those nanobots were still active. Tiny foreign entities were milling around Dean’s insides, slinking through muscle and sinew, fraternizing with his blood cells, lounging in his brain matter. And they had been there for months.
Dean wanted to crawl out of his skin.
Read the rest on AO3.

Join pop culture and history experts Elana Levin (hey!) and Steven Attewell (whose secret identity is that he’s an actual historian) for our Podcast examining each episode of this hit Adult Swim show.
This episode of the podcast is about Season 7 Episode 3: Arrears in Science
It’s got everything from Frankenstein metaphors to the Gershwin Brothers’ Synagogue. 60s songwriter/producers including a real life supervillian, mad scientist/ sorry, I mean filmmaker, Werner Herzog and even a famous Manhattan diner. And more resolved plot threads than we’ve ever seen. This episode goes deep: it’s the conclusion to season 7’s Morphic Trilogy but also the conclusion to Season 1’s Careers in Science and so much of what the show has to say about fathers and sons.

Arrears In Science episode summary
"The Morphic Trilogy reaches its conclusion in a decades-spanning tale of friendship and betrayal."
I would like to speculate a bit on who exactly this summary is referring to. Just for fun of course. No spoilers here! We're weeks away from this episode's release.
Now thinking about this episode summary, one has to ask, who exactly is it referring to with regards to decades long friendship? We have to assume it's referring to Rusty so then who has he had a decades long friendship with?
Well, there's White definitely. Known him since college, they were very close then but they grew apart only to grow close once again later on. But how likely is it that he's betrayed Rusty in some way? Doesn't quite add up.
There's Billy but well Rusty hasn't known him that long. After all, he only got introduced to him via White much later after college. I think we're safe to assume it's not him they're referring to.
So who else is in Rusty's life who has been for decades? Surely, his pseudo family of Team Venture. Yes they raised him and thus he's known them for decades. But are they his friends? Or are they just his rivals/family? Colonel Gentleman and Action Man are a good guess but I don't think this is who the summary is referring to.
So we are left with... Brock Samson. Brock was Rusty's roommate in college and it's unlikely that either forgot that once they parted ways then came back together later on. Jonas seemed very angry with Brock for something in episode one, pointing at him and yelling something about him "doing this"? Something like that. Brock has a super secret past, covered up by the O.S.I. as a joint agreement with said organization and his joining up with them. He did kill that one guy after all. I'll bet they helped him keep that a secret.
So... did Brock do something to harm Rusty in the past? Something that needs covering up? Did he accidentally become a pawn in helping/hurting the man? Is this something involving Jonas/The Blue Morpho/The Monarch? My thoughts are yes, absolutely and maybe he doesn't even realize. 🤷
I can't wait for this episode...
