Every movie set in Ireland will always be "This is the wife. She Is somehow keeping the family alive. This is the husband. He never make things right and even spend the little money they have at the pub. These women deserve better. Also fuck England"

MOVIE INFO VIA ROTTEN TOMATOES:
Set in 1967, THE MIRACLE CLUB is a heartwarming film that follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), and Dolly (Agnes O’Casey) of Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in Dublin, who have one tantalizing dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, that place of…
Recently I watched two movies - The Miracle Club and Good Grief. Both are “slice of life” movies capturing events and periods in life. These were apt for the beginning of the year as it gave viewers a lot to think about in terms of life goals, friendships, forgiveness, repentance and redemption.
The miracle club, with a wonderful cast lead by Maggie Smith chronicles the struggles faced by a group of neighbors in Ireland as they embark on a pilgrimage to Lourdes seeking miracles in their lives. Good Grief, created by Dan Levy, deals with someone dealing with loss and their journey to healing and acceptance.
Enjoyed both. They were cute, endearing and entertaining films.
It reinforced some of these points to keep in mind throughout the year:
Be kind to yourself and others, you are doing the best you can
Honesty, openness and respect is needed to preserve friendships
Miracles can happen in other ways than we imagined- need to change perspective to see it.
Endings are of course sad but also can be transformative and open yourself to other beautiful beginnings in life
The Miracle Club: Directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan. With Maggie Smith, Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Agnes O'Casey. There's just one dream for the women of Ballygar to taste freedom: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes.
