Hi can you provide the link to read manhuas you prefer?
Hello Anon! OMG Manhua/Manhwa Rec! Here we go! I’ve only been reading for 2-3 months (consistently), so this will be pretty limited. I will link to the legit sites. A google search will direct you to others.
Most of these are WIPs and some, sadly, are discontinued. I won’t add TGCF or MDZS here cause those are already a given. 👇🏼
• Body Electric by Dong Ye ( completed, supernatural, lots of trigger warnings and plotty )
Tumblr media
Ba Song is the hotshot cop who’s been handed an open-and-shut case: the suicide of a young woman. Except… who commits suicide by stabbing their own body and strangling themself? There's only one man who can help him with this mystery — Bo Shan, the renowned forensic pathologist with a severe and cold personality. What's more, his body produces bioelectricity, allowing him to acutely sense bodily injury with his touch. There's an electric current between them, and each touch sizzles with energy
If you like crime dramas and stories where they solve mysterious cases then this is for you. The romance is subtle, and their relationship is not insta-love. strangers to colleagues to friends to lovers trope. This also discusses alot of issues the society has that will make you stop and think. Ba Song is really the honorable MC in here who always wants to help people and do good. While Bo Shan is the reluctant one but deep inside, he wants to make a difference too. I wish they would make a donghua or live action out of this.
• 30 year old by S-Monkey - ( ongoing, age difference, blind dates, slice of life)
Tumblr media
Charlie Wei is a single and handsome executive. He’s also a closeted gay guy who’s been on way too many bad blind dates with women. Charlie’s still hung up on his ex-boyfriend James and is… gasp, 30! Charlie’s family thinks he’s straight and too old to be without a wife! During another bad blind date, Charlie meets the flirty Ethan, who both annoys and intrigues him. Can Charlie finally come out and find true love with Ethan or will he continue on his streak of bad blind dates?
The cover looks melodramatic but it’s really not. This is so funny! I read this because people were saying it reminded them of BoXiao. And yes, there are moments here that remind me of them, but it’s more like an AU of BoXiao. I stayed up late trying to get caught up in the chapters and you won’t realize it cause it’s just that good. I love seeing the older MC loosening up and being more of himself. and the younger one being more responsible in his career. They just become better versions of themselves because of each other. It’s so sweet!
• I ship me and my Rival - by Pepa ( ongoing, comedy, reads like a meta )
Tumblr media
This follows the adventures of Wei Yanzi, a third-rate actor in the Chinese entertainment industry, stumbles onto a shipping fandom for himself and another actor (Gu Yiliang) while trying to escape from the flame wars and negativity. He's so taken with this group of fans who actually see him as a good guy instead of an enemy/rival of Gu Yiliang that he falls head-first into fandom and becomes actively involved in trying to provide shipping fuel and the fans' daily dose of fluff.
IF THERE IS ONE thing you will read here, let it be this. It is hilarious. If you are a CP fan you will relate so much and it’s a good time. It just shows how people who think are rivals can actually be really good friends in real life. What we see is not always what it seems. and people will interpret things based on their bias. The MC here is so dramatic! how his inner feelings/reactions were drawn will make you laugh.
• Path to You - by Sinran (completed, slice of life, age gap fluff and comedy )
Tumblr media
When almost college dropout Jensen attempts to drink away his problems, unemployed Nathaniel suddenly pukes on him and ruins his night. As an apology, Nathaniel offers to help Jensen with his studies. Despite Jensen's difficulties in getting along with people, the two become friends and something deeper begins to grow between them
The story is so soft. If you want something with mild angst/misunderstandings— then pick this. I love the progression of their relationship and how they take care of each other. There are other themes showed here other than the romance.
• Red Candy - by Hanse (completed season one with a cliffhanger, explicit scenes, assassins )
Tumblr media
Shihyeon, aka “Red Candy,” is a secret agent whose code name comes from bathing in the blood of his marks on dangerous missions. Shihyeon’s tasked with seducing and obtaining intel from Hajun, a hot college professor. Shihyeon can disarm enemies, but didn’t expect to be disarmed himself by Hajun’s own tight body. Now Shihyeon’s caught between loyalty to his spy agency and Hajun. Can Red Candy survive the incoming wave of enemies and still indulge in the sweet ecstasy of Hajun’s embrace?
THIS STRESSED ME OUT MAAAN. Wow. I loved this. That season one cliffhanger. It’s definitely up there as my favorite. If you think about it, the tropes are really not original. An assassin is sent to shadow a person and they develop a relationship. That simple. But NOOOOO! There are so many things going on. The Main mystery plot, Their relationship, their shared past plus you have other sketchy secondary characters. And did i mention explicit scenes? Lots of them. I want this two to have a happy ending!!!
• Lone Swan - by Chu Man (discontinued, cultivation, star crossed lovers)
Tumblr media
After losing his memory, Yiqiu Shen, a disciple from the decent sect meets a very special man named Luofeng Yan, who is the leader of the evil Divine Wind Cult. When escaping and conflicting with Yan, Shen gradually finds his original self as well as his previous love back. Together they rip off the facade of the martial world and reveal the hidden true
I didn’t want to add a discontinued story here, with no novel as a source material but this one made an impact on me. so. yeah. THE ART. breathtaking. The plot = layered. There are times I don’t even know who is telling the truth. It had so much potential and i hope it will get picked up again at some point. People rec this to those who enjoyed TGCF and MDZS, and they are right. 👍🏼
• Dragon in Distress by Si Wang Wen Hua - ( ongoing, dragons, past life, lost power, fantasy )
Tumblr media
This is a story about a little Eastern green dragon and a little Western black dragon playing together.
The synopsis is pretty simple if you look at it but this one is pretty interesting. and surprisingly funny. tinie AoAo is so cute! 🤍 the other MC has tsundere tendencies tho. Lots of lore and more truths to uncover as the story progresses. I’m not giving it enough justice with how i’m reccing it, but if you like dragons and fantasy — give this a go.
• Breaking through the clouds 2: Swallow the Sea - Huaishang (ongoing, based on a novel, crime, drama, cases)
Tumblr media
Wu Yu, a newcomer of the Public Security Bureau, is gentle and frail. He doesn’t care about the difficulties posed by Bu ZhongHua, his strict boss, and only wants to stay in the background to be paid on time with enough for food. However, no one knows that this young man’s head is targeted by top drug traffickers for a large bounty or that this courageous young man has once slaughtered the dragon of the abyss. With a chain of interlocking cases, a series of troubles come one after another. Can the two people work together to survive through the difficulties?
Do you see a pattern with me? lol. I like crime themes. This one is the same and by the looks of it, the cases they solve will take longer to unravel. I haven’t read the novel it’s based on yet so i’m just going with how the manhua is progressing. I like it when Wu Yu turns full on action-mode and when ZH takes care of him. Plus it helps that they are both gorgeous. I’ll get back this with a proper link.
• Where the Wind Stays - by Yusa (completed season one, curses, demons, possession, timeskip, explicit scenes)
Tumblr media
To break an ancient curse that plagues the royal bloodline, young Prince Tasara is destined to be sacrificed in death. Nara is enlisted as a palace servant to carry out the prince’s execution when the time comes. But he develops a soft spot for the cursed prince, and after committing an atrocious and unforgivable act against Tasara, Nara is desperate to right his wrongs. Soon, their lascivious relationship that had been kept under wraps tests his resolve. Will Nara be tempted away from his original mission? There’s no telling how far he would go to earn Tasara’s forgiveness.
This story broke my brain, in a good way. I don’t wanna say much cause it will spoil the story. It’s the type that you gave to see and suffer through yourself. I am excited for what happens in season II!!!
Honorable Mentions:
I’m placing these here cause I have only read a few chapters and tho I liked them, I wanna read more before reccing it in full. 👍🏼
• I accidentally saved the Jinghu’s enemy
• Global Examination
• Monster entertainment
• Demon Apartment
And that’s it! Hope enjoy Anon! 😊

2020 Review (Books):
2020 was an absolute shit show of a year so it's hardly any wonder that I looked for any means of escapism I could find. This was the year that I discovered the “isekai” genre and fell down a rabbit hole of webtoons/manga/manhwas/web novels/ dramas, etc. following the same genre. Alarmingly, I have yet to resurface.
When your world is falling apart, it's nice to be able to dive into another world along with the characters and go on a journey of self discovery and love. I liked that these worlds were so very predictable and followed a certain pattern: badass heroines, cold heroes who fall in love and fall hard, love rivals hell bent on tearing our couple apart, courtly schemes, and happily ever afters. I didn't need to be overly stressed about how things were going to go since most of these stories had minimal consequences and guaranteed a happy ending. I didn't need to lose sleep over which character was going to live and who was going to die. And you know what? That was the perfect reading material. At a time when I was too anxious IRL to pay attention to someone else’s problems, even fictional ones, this was the perfect kind of escapism.
Isekai became my new favorite hyper-fixation and when I say hyper-fixation I mean it. Within a year I read close to a 100 different ongoing manga/manhwa/webtoon with the same theme. I kid you not, I have a list. Out of these there were some truly standout stories:
The most bloodthirsty ones where heroine actually gets her revenge: The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass, Death is the Only Ending for the Villainess, Villainess Lives Twice. (I loved these so much I read both the manhwa as well as the web novel version!) My Fiance is in Love with My Little Sister (only Webnovel version. For when you want something to make your blood boil but also have a happy ending for the heroine).
Meme-worthy ones for the lolz: Miss not so Sidekick, Is it Fortune or Is it Woe?, Why are you Doing This Duke?, I’m the Soldier’s Ex-Girlfriend, I Stole the Male Lead’s First Night.
Historical Romance: Lucia (both manhwa and Webnovel), Beasts with Flowers, When the Villainess Loves, Crimson Karma.
Supernatural romance: Blood of Madame Giselle, Evil Lady's Hero, Please Throw me Away.
Angsty: Abandoned Empress, Villain's Savior, Yoon Lok Hun, Duke’s Servant, Evil Lady will Change.
Reincarnated as a Baby: Monstrous Duchess, Suddenly Became the Princess One Day, Beware the Brothers.
Other Favorites: Virtues of the Villainess, How Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Castle, Justice of a Villainous Woman, Sincerely I became the Duke’s Maid, Painter in the Night, Survive as the Hero’s Wife.
Contemporary Ones: Cheese in the Trap (an all time favorite!), I Love Yoo, Unstoppable Siblings (so, so good), Inso’s Law, Our Relationship is (another fav), Positively Yours, True Beauty.
Mangas: Vagabond, Horimiya, Akatsuki no Yona, LDK, Dengeki Daisy, Raise Wa Tanin.
Pandemic had me so distracted I could barely concentrate enough to read books to completion. Re-reading favorites, which usually works when I'm in a book slump, proved futile this time around. Maybe for this reason that I ventured beyond my comfort zone and picked up genres that I would have otherwise passed on like: My Dark Vanessa, Piranesi, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
Surprisingly, this was also the year that I picked out contemporary books with family drama coincidently mirroring a lot of my own personal issues. With books like Beach Read and If I Never Met You making me feel seen in a way that few books have in recent memory. Honorable mentions include: Always Only You and Only When It's Us.
But my favorite reads of this year featured some truly badass, feral women with anger issues and when I say I’ve never related to anyone more, I mean it: Bringing Down the Duke, A Rogue of One's Own, and The Ten Thousand Doors of January. These books vocalized some of my frustrations and anger at the world, and made me feel like part of a sisterhood of women sharing the same struggles across worlds and universes.
I rounded off this year with a return to my favorite genre: adult fantasy. The Burning God, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and A Deadly Education reminded me, once again, why I always go back to the same genre. I just don’t enjoy books in other genres the same way. Both Burning God and Addie LaRue made me cry till my eyes were swollen red. I couldn't put them down. Burning God ended a truly brilliant trilogy. I cannot wait for the next book by R.F. Kuang even if she killed off all my favorite characters. Addie LaRue made me cry for how beautiful life is and made me desperately sad that I wasn’t experiencing all of it the way I should. I’ll live for the day I can see a pink elephant in Paris. Life is worth that after all. Deadly Education was different in that it made me snicker into the night and kept me up with questions on how the world worked. Cannot wait for the next book in this duology.

The Difference
K-wave became more trending globally these years (thanks BTS), another culture also raise to the surface in reading section (manhwa and novel). Korean manhwa and novel popularity are quite significant these recent years, to the point the author and published take a legal action to protect their babies from ilegal translation. Hence, right know, we’re in the middle of their purgatory.
Back then, i dont really read manhwa diligently, but i know some people already fangirling about it. I was a devoted believer of manga, heck, my reading list was full of it. Fast forward, my hot list mangas been hiatus or the scans team being MIA (due lacking translator/staffs) or simply we waiting for the next chapter coming up which takes weeks/months (you know, some mangas published weekly, monthly or bimonthly, but some of them are publish every 4months! yeah right, talk about forever).
Tumblr media
Out of boredom, i give several manhwas a try (its been on roll for months and many people in forum talked about it, so lets give it a try), and im hooked.
I remember the first manhwa i read was a BL manhwa with silver hair guy with a super power as the ML (forgot its name), and the MC is his childhood friend with black hair. The artysyle totaly catching my eyes fast. Its colorful but i have a slight difficulties with how to read.
You know, manga are black and white page (ofc there’s one with colors as well), and 1 page are contained (normally) with 3-6 panels, and you read it from right to the left. But with manhwa you have to do the opposite. Its a long strip comics with lots of white area, and you read it from left to the right.
Im also check several manhua out there. My first manhuwa is 10 years where i loved you the most. DAMN MAN! i love this manhua so freaking much!! i even read the novel!!! totally a tear jerker!!!
Tumblr media
And ever since, i imersing myself to read more manhwa and manhua (but not much) LOL.
And i give the novels a reading too. But after some time, i found a patterns.
This writing is based on my personal opinions, so no hard feelings, ok?
My preferences are:
something with heavy-twisted theme (but not too dark nor gorey)
easy fluffy romance is okay too
picky with omegaverse things (cus yk...)
family theme is okay (i loved it actually, as long as its not too childish)
comedy is fine, but too much are down for me
regular shounen/shoujo theme is acceptable
something full with angst/sad kind of thing is my fave!
war and strategy things are okay too
mysteries, detective/police theme is fine
supernatural stuffs is good once a while
Well i guess, my preference is okay, I mean, i dont like things that too complicated or too cheesy. It just blow the entire plot.
Im also fine where the MC is died, i mean, several stories are meant to do so (imo). We cant be perfect all the time, even fictional stories need some real life situation hard. I think this kind of ending is beautiful and more humane.
Tumblr media
Korean Novel
Blame me for my limited reading list. But from what i read so far, the only novel i liked was Trash of the Count Family. Most of k-novel i read, were, how do i say this.. they’re just okay?
Plot wise, i see no difference one from another, and i want more conflict happened. Maybe the author and published targeted the young audience, so i cant really blame them.
But, from what i know, Shadow Queen had good characters conflict and the characters also develop by their own pace (quite slow, but i guess its the way supposed to be).
But come to think of it, i never found BL novel? Letme check on it again.
Korean Manhwa
Most of the artystle are cute and nice, but thats it. Most of published (popular) manwha in girls sections were novel based (adaptation), its a common things and sometimes they differentiate from the original plot. Meanwhile the BL sections apparently were original (not adaptation).
I dont know why but instead cultivated more artists to make novel adaptation, why dont asked them to create their own story? I think its more interesting that way and to make more vast genre available out there.
Plus thing : they published it weekly, with hiatus schedule for several months and continue the next chapter (repeat). Needless to say, they can finished a book/projects fast.
Tumblr media
Japan Novel
Well, i have a love-hate relationship with this. Most of them able to portray the deep of characters emotions well, and the plot development was. But what i hated is sometimes (or mostly?) they spinning in the wheels and using the same words for god knows many times.
Japan Manga
Allright, old artifacts, who doesnt read this stuffs? Do i have to write it down?
My first book story, ever. And i still read it till now. The most vast collection out there, and the most easy to obtain book. Not every manga are colorful (they printed the colorfull ver as a limited edition/collection edition), they printed it in bw to reduce the production cost.
Manga is the opposite of manhwa in terms of creating stories. The mangka works as a story teller as well as the artist. Not everyone tho, but most of them.
What i hate: their published date! URGH. As i stated previously, their published date is sucks! several publisher have different release schedule. Some of them published weekly, monthly or bimonthly. I can wait for it. For some of them publiisedh every 4months! 4 months for 1 chapter!! So it means, you only have 4 chapters A YEAR!! Emerald sucks!
I dont even bother to keep tabs with Super Lovers or Sekaiichi Hatsukoi.
Tumblr media
Chinese Novel
imo, the only worth reading is their BL novel. If i were you, dont even bother to read other novels, it was just a long series of  cheap soap drama with evil cycle. Sooooo fed up i cant even say anything. Ok, maybe not everything,  To Be A Virtuous Wife is a good read, or my all time fave 10 Years When I Loved You The Most (BL), or every MXTX works is superb! I recommend this very much!
But i have to admit, i loved how Ch author using a flowery language, thats what hooks me the most.
The common things are mentioned below:
daddy CEO with super smart genius kid and superb beauty wife
imortal heavenly being, mostly reincarnated
harem life turns one devoted lovers
rape and violence
like normal occurrences
genius hacker
unmatched beauty
The thing is, the MC is way too OP (either physically or mentally) which i dont like. So i dropped several stuffs.
Chinese Manhua
Plot wise, i dont really like it. I mean, they’re just okay, but its not drove me to the point where i have to catch up with it. But, i must say, their artstyle is quite charming. The authors have a tendecy to make their artystyle into painting like, idk but i got that vibe.
