What a fascinating question this is.

Being "inappropriately sexual" is basically the entire shtick of every Guardian Beast we've seen so far. Unicorn is definitely worse than the others, but it's a nearly universal trait among them.

And it's hardly like this was a huge secret. The whole premise of Merro and Boar's relationship is that she was hoping for a sexy bishounen husbando and she's mid-key pissed that she got a big fat ugly guy. And Tabi was here for this conversation so it's not like she's been kept out of the loop.

Now, obviously, Unicorn's actions were a completely different level from anything Boar or anyone else has done, but the specific wording of Tabi's question is really downplaying what actually happened. And it might be as simple as "Tabi is trying to work up to the subject gradually", but it does seem like the summoners were not properly prepped for what's apparently a common occurrence, which they knew about but only kind of vaguely, in the way that makes me think that Magnolia Siddell has some kind of theme or subtext happening here in this comic about college-aged women having uncomfortable sexual experiences with man-shaped beasts. Like there's some kind of metaphor going on, beyond just the obvious "Merro summoning Boar = regretted one-night stand" stuff. There's a broader societal point being made here, that's worth paying attention to as the comic progresses, and likely Alunara's reaction to Tabi's question is likely going to be critical in understanding the nuances of this comic's message.

I was seriously wondering if his scheme was leaving the island and going out into the world never to be seen again, but that would have been a weird place to take the story. "Here's this fun character. He's never gonna show up again because he left and the protagonist thinks he died and got eaten"

Well alright. He is not dead for now, because he doesn't look like he's doing well. His beast isnt large like Merro's, and yet... doesnt look good at all. At least he's smiling....?

I must apologize for not commenting about The Golden Boar, from the same creator of Monster Pulse (a webcomic I started reading a few times but never caught on and continued to the end, and I also apologize for that), but to be honest it took a while to pick up and I didn't feel anything that gave me this urge to comment. Which is not to say it's bad, but it just did't create an itch.

The current, chapter, though, is frankly incredible and it kind of enters in the meat of the comic's lore, that is, that people summon magical forest animals as gijinkas. The funny thing that I had to say about this page in particular (although, to be honest, the last several pages) is that The Boar is teased in the prologue as one half of an "Odd Couple" dynamic, a fact that is only made weirder when summoned beasts are shown later as having the kind of special bond that feels like an obvious metaphor for something a bit higher in the age bracket, but after The Boar shows up as a character he has been turning up to be a good dude. A little intense and too much at times, but overall very much a cool man.

And if you have not yet read this comic and will start now, I hope you have as much fun as I had with the introduction of the Unicorn. Excellent pages, I tell you.

KIND OF wish I had done a better job depicting that Great Tree, but it was the best I could do at the time, I think. Maybe a redraw for the (eventual) book is warranted.

@idkfitememate you know that question I asked a while ago about the number of creators? totally didn’t mean anything lol

The canvas is pretty crowded but I’m happy with it. I had to miniaturize some creators though, cuz some were too large

I love those rough pencils, man

Also I didn’t realize the tiger creator was probably supposed to be a normal tiger until I finished

Wolflord had to go mini and pop up from a portal to fit lol, and the hydra was sentenced to a bucket. I’m so creative :) melusine was hardest to draw because of ELBOWS wait I take that back, the weasel was hardest-I could never get it right

Overall I’m confident about this drawing 😊

(pause as we look at the date) #...actually don't worry about it we'll finish it eventually #wereweevil form draws inspiration from both mantids and wild boars! #we're going with the theory that weevils and primal weevils are NOT the same species #but rather different species entirely that tend to cohabitate and have some aesthetic similarities because of it #golden path weevils are a VERY altered form of weevils that have adapted very far from their original form over time #and primal weevils are a member of superorder dictyoptera split off from an ancestor like... #googling it suggests the common name we're familiar with is not actually common since it didnt bring up results but the wood mantis #but honestly it could either be a split from one of the Flat Fuck mantids or a roach w those raptorial forelegs #while golden path weevils have evolved specifically to eat seedlings and are most likely a split of acorn weevil #primal weevils are Something Else Entirely and have the “everything and the kitchen sink” diet of a roach #though they do prefer plumplings and have over time developed teeth specifically for cracking them open and eating them #their mutualistic relationship with golden path weevils stems from this: cracking open otherwise difficult plumpling prey for GP weevils #and receiving the benefits of a pack of allies for hunting more difficult prey in return #primal weevils are most likely an awakened species from what we've seen of canon but we doubt roaches would acknowledge them #as related much less potentially another form of roach #seeing as the roaches in game seem to be purely based on a handful of “pest” species and not the absolute wealth of roach species out there #that have unique adaptations or mimicry or anything of the like #we don't think they would take well to mimic roaches or anything of the like. also ties in to our hcs for levi. #if youre not one of the core species of roach then you dont get considered a “roach”. there are probably plenty of mimic roaches out there #just not acknowledged as Roaches because the Roaches bugarians are familiar with were a single culture with only a handful of species
