TORONTO (Reuters) - The dream of making it big in Canada is turning into a battle for survival for many immigrants due to the high cost of living and rental shortages, as rising emigration numbers hint at newcomers being forced to turn their back on a country that they chose to make their adopted home.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made immigration his main weapon to blunt Canada's big challenge of an aging and slowing population, and it has also helped fuel economic growth. That drove Canada's population up at its fastest clip in more than six decades this year, Statistics Canada said.
But now a reversal of that trend is gradually taking hold. In the first six months of 2023 some 42,000 individuals departed Canada, adding to 93,818 people who left in 2022 and 85,927 exits in 2021, official data show.
The rate of immigrants leaving Canada hit a two-decade high in 2019, according to a recent report from the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), an immigration advocacy group. While the numbers went down during pandemic lockdowns, Statistics Canada data shows it is once again rising.

Maximize Community Day
Tumblr media
As a shiny hunter, Community Day provides a lot of opportunity to add more shinies to our teams across our games but only a handful of players take advantage of this opportunity. Here’s a list of ways for you to maximize Community Day every month.
1. Play Community Day even if you don’t regularly play Pokémon Go.
Obviously this doesn’t apply to regular Pokémon Go players but I hear so many console players complain about how they love shinies but don’t have the time/patience to put into getting one. Community Day is the fastest way to get a shiny. It is very uncommon that I don’t get one within the first hour. Play even if you don’t particularly love the featured Pokémon because you can always trade it later for one that does interest you!
2. Try to load up on Pokeballs before the event.
I try to limit my Pokeball usage about a week prior to ensure I don’t run out. This is particularly important if you are playing from home during lockdown or are stationary without a Pokestop for whatever reason.
Tumblr media
3. Send gifts to your friends and open them every day. Purge unnecessary items.
This is a good way to stock up on Pokeballs. Toss away extra potions and super potions if your Pokémon are all healed up or you have a healthy supply of more powerful potions. If you have more than 100 pinap berries (no judgement here) purge the rest.
4. If you aren’t low on Pokeballs catch everything.
This will force spawns more often and get you candies. It’s ok to transfer Pokémon.
Tumblr media
5. If you are low on Pokeballs don’t catch anything that isn’t shiny.
This strategy is if you are only interested in shiny hunting and not finding a three star. You can enter any encounter, check to see if it’s shiny, and exit the encounter if it’s not. These will take longer to respawn but ultimately conserve your pokeballs. Don’t use this strategy unless you are below 10.
6. When you encounter a shiny Pokémon, use your most powerful berry and your most powerful ball.
You might be asking yourself, shouldn’t I save my golden berries for raids? The answer is, if you raid really frequently you probably have a surplus. If you don’t raid really frequently you’re not using them! In a raid, you don’t really want to use your golden berries on anything less than a mythic, legendary or other shiny. Don’t use them on a 3 star ducklett raid.
Why go to the trouble? Well a lot of Pokémon, especially in Pokémon Go, can spontaneously flee after a failed catch. Therefore you want to make sure you get the Pokémon in on the first catch as much as possible.
Tumblr media
7. Use incense. Especially if you’re not near a Pokestop. If you are near a Pokestop use a lure.
Volume is your friend when shiny hunting so you want to make sure you’re maximizing your encounters. Both incense and lures will help you encounter more Pokémon.
8. If you play PoGo, trade bad star/stat shinies with friends.
This works best if you are trading for the same Pokémon. Find a best friend and trade. Best outcome: you get a lucky trade. Worst outcome: you come out the same as you went in, with bad stat shinies.
Tumblr media
9. Send your bad stat Pokémon to Pokémon Home after the event.
If you can’t use the shinies in Pokémon Go or have no interest in playing Pokémon Go outside of Community Day, send those shinies to Pokémon Home where you can send them to other Switch games. I know this guy is going to accompany all of my eggs from now on, as he has the ability Flame Body!
10. Don’t ignore Team Go Rocket or regular raids during the event.
These events can help you resupply and if you ignore them there’s a chance you’re passing up on shiny Pokémon there!
Tumblr media
11. You don’t need to purchase the special research to increase your shiny odds.
Using the special research won’t really increase your chances of finding a shiny Pokémon on Community Day but it can help you out. The research will frequently supply you with much needed Pokeballs, extra candy and encounters with the featured Pokémon that have decent stats. If you can afford it then it’s a great way to ensure you’re stocked up and support Niantic but it’s absolutely not necessary, you can get a lot out of Community Day for free. In fact, while I regularly buy the special research and had it through the Kanto ticket, my wife never does and almost always catches more shinies than me. Why? Because she’s notoriously lucky!
10. If you can’t make Community Day for whatever reason, ask a friend to look out for you.
This might sound like a simple thing but it’s really not. I found out one of my friends who works retail had missed almost every Community Day despite being an avid fan. Now I always try to make sure I have an extra shiny for him so he doesn’t miss out. In return, I miss a lot of raids because I’m in an area that doesn’t have any nearby so he shoots me an invite when he can and we trade for some of the raid Pokémon I miss. The only downside to this arrangement is that it can be Stardust expensive really quick but worth it to get what you were missing. Because of the cost though, it’s definitely better to reach the “Best Friends” rank before you start trading!
Tumblr media
My Nickit and Vulpix aren’t good enough friends to start trading yet, it seems.
That’s it! Do you have tips to share? Let me know in the comments. Until next time, happy hunting! ✨

notable moments from The Jailhouse Job
leverage 3.01
I love how they opened up s3 with all of their “codenames”/job titles
- - - - -
Hardison: Cameras are watching yesterday's footage. Locking down... which elevator?
[Elevator Shaft]
Parker: Huh? What? Oh, um, um, yes, I-I'm a go for elevator one.
[Courthouse Hallway]
Hardison: Were you asleep?
[Elevator Shaft]
Parker: It's very peaceful up here. Besides, I sleep better upside down.
(Parker is wearing her rigs, hanging upside down, elevator rises)
I adore her, okay + SHE SLEEPS BETTER UPSIDE DOWN ??? !!!
- - - - -
(Nate walks into the elevator with two men, one armed, the other the one whose gun Sophie stole. Parker jumps on the top of the elevator, opens it, and tasers both men before picking the lock on Nate’s cuffs)
Nate: You know, you could have just taken the keys off the guy's belt.
Parker: Eh, this is faster.
parker LOVES tasering people + it’s faster for her to pick a lock than to look for keys
- - - - -
(Hardison is walking along the sidewalk checking his phone, setting off car alarms)
Guard: What the hell?
(the guards at the door go to check, and Eliot disarms them, knocking one into traffic. Sophie pulls up in a car and just as Nate and Parker exit the building)
eliot’s F A C E when he accidentally makes the guy get hit by a car LMFAO
- - - - -
when it goes from “nate’s apartment” to “leverage hq”
- - - - -
Eliot: Spanish soap opera.
Hardison: Oh, yeah. Check it out, man. Look, it turns out Pepe's twin brother Peppi is actually Guadalupe's baby's daddy.
Eliot: Seriously?
headcanon: hardison and eliot were watching it earlier and eliot says “really” because god spanish soap operas are so dramatic
- - - - -
(Parker comes in with a bag over her shoulder)
Eliot: He doesn’t want to do it.
Parker: Oh, but I love jumping on elevators.
Hardison: I know.
Parker: This is my special elevator rig he got me for Christmas
we LOVE to see that nate (and sophie ?) get their children presents for christmas
- - - - -
Eliot: All right, look, Nate, you took the fall for us, so...
Hardison: After you lied to us. He's a liar.
Eliot: You took the fall for us. You went to jail so we wouldn't have to. We get that, so we're square. But now you got to let us get you out of prison.
Parker: But if we're gonna do that...
Hardison: And not all of us are convinced that we should.
Parker: Then we have to hit you at your next hearing. That prison's escape-proof.
Nate: Guys, no.
hardison is salty but eliot forgives him for the most part
+
I love it when the ot3 sits together
(also I take note when they’re in the same frame in these posts in case I (or anyone else) wants to reference when they are together for gif and or fanvid purposes)
- - - - -
Nate: I committed a crime, I got caught, and now I am gonna serve my time.
Sophie: Nate, what kind of world would it be if everybody that committed a silly little crime went to prison, huh? Complete madness. (Parker scoffs, Hardison makes an incredulous gesture with his hands)
- - - - -
Hardison: Okay, you know... You know what? Fine, Nate.
[Leverage HQ]
Hardison: We're still out here. We're doing the job. We help people nobody else helps. That's important. You want to stay around and miss out just because you got to figure out your guilty conscience, that's your loss.
Nate: Yeah, Hardison, I wa...
(Hardison severs the connection)
- - - - -
Worth: I am not a warden. I am CEO of National Prison Properties. I built this company, five prisons, from the ground up.
(The Italian laughs and lights a lighter)
Italian: Impressive. (lights a cigarette) You know what they say... That Rome was not built in a single day. But it burned in one. (blows out the lighter)
BADASS
- - - - -
(Billy pushes a cart of books through the room)
Billy (to Nate): Hey.
Nate: Hey.
Billy: Seamus Heaney. That Irish guy you asked for. (hands him a book)
Nate: Oh, excellent. Wow, thanks... Billy, right?
Billy: Uh, yeah.
Nate: Well, thank you. This could not have been easy to find.
Billy: Well, you seemed pretty down. And we got to stand up for each other, right?
Nate: Yeah. You're all right, Billy.
Billy: Yeah. Wish the judge thought so. (pushes cart away)
Nate: Yeah, I appreciate it
- - - - -
(Nate watches as Billy leaves the room, followed by some tough looking inmates)
Nate: I think something's happening.
Bellows: Thanks for your input. You can move on now.
(Nate follows them out of the common area)
prisons are the fucking worst but PRIVATE PRISONS are double that and john rogers agrees and that’s yet another reason why I love him
- - - - -
hardison tried taking up making a model helicopter in his spare time. cute
+ hardison likes to use the word hinky
- - - - -
Nate (puts hand on Billy’s shoulder): I'm sorry.
Billy: For what?
(Nate stabs Billy in the side)
Billy: Oh, sh...
(Billy falls to the floor, holding his side)
Nate: Oh. Uh, Hardison, why don't you gather the team and get me background checks on the... on the warden?
Billy: You stabbed me!
Nate: Oh, come on, just... just a little. It's... it's fine
this is the same as the “lightly stabbed” meme
- - - - -
Worth: The US has the fastest growing prison population in the world. Well, it's like the real-estate boom.
(Hardison plugs a flash drive into Worth’s computer)
Worth: Except, of course, the problem with real estate... You eventually run out of land. You never run out of people to put in prison.
Hardison: Hmm. We haven't had much success with private prisons concept in England. Our investment firm has large real-estate holdings for construction of facilities.
Worth: You see, any yahoo can lay some concrete and throw up some razor wire. The profit comes in proper management.
(Hardison looks at his phone, which is accessing Worth’s computer)
Worth: For example, the big money for us is in prison labor.
Hardison: Sorry?
Worth: Goods and services made by prisoners in America. $2 billion a year. One out of every five office chairs and desks "Made in America", made by convicts. And those jobs are not going to the Chinese. Bottom's up
john rogers was calling this bullshit out in like 2010 and still NOBODY LISTENS
- - - - -
(two guards are standing outside the room Billy and Nate are in)
Billy: Man, is this really the best plan?
Nate: Listen, the infirmary's under lockdown. There's cameras on both sides of the door, extra guards because of the pharmaceuticals. It's the safest place in the prison, really
- - - - -
Eliot (to guard): Abernathy, MD.
eliot still uses this alias that he picked up for The Rashomon Job
- - - - -
Eliot: We can just... well, you know what? It's fine. Just right in here, sir. And please have a seat.
(Nate sits in the chair and Eliot lays it back)
Eliot: It's just in case the guards come in. (buckles restraints on Nate’s wrists) Restraints. Here's an infirmary manual. (turns the light on Nate’s face and picks up a drill)
Nate: That's, uh, for the... for the guards, right?
Eliot: You know what I usually do, Nate, to people that run a con on their own team? Almost get people killed 'cause they're out of control?
Nate: Are we okay, Eliot?
(Eliot puts down the drill and plugs in a flash drive, typing on the keyboard. Images come up on the monitor)
eliot is mostly over it but would he ever give up a chance to fuck with him? nope.
- - - - -
[Judge’s Office]
Sophie: Key card and checkbook.
Parker: Keys and appointment book. Ooh, and this? (holds up keys) Safe deposit box key.
Sophie: Ooh, I love a secret.
(Sophie sits down at desk while Parker gets started on the safe)
COMPETENT WOMEN
- - - - -
Hardison: Yeah. See, Rockford can't drop below 70% occupancy. If they do, they lose their state funding. No state money, they close. And they came very close two years ago.
[Nate’s Cell]
Nate: Hmm. So, private prisons are like the hotel business. They live and die on occupancy, head count. Now, Worth wasn't gonna lose $100 million in profit just 'cause he didn't have enough hard-cases to fill the prison, so he puts a few judges on the arm to send him non-violent offenders, easy prisoners to supervise.
[Leverage HQ]
Parker: Yeah, but why these people?
Eliot: Because they're citizens. 'Cause they're honest, middle-class citizens. These are the people, they don't want to cause any trouble. They can't afford a lawyer, so if some judge sends them away, well, yes, sir. They were taught to trust the courts. They believe in the system
- - - - -
[Leverage HQ]
(Parker wearing a robe standing in front of a green screen, trying to pose. At one point she does a duck face.)
Sophie: You remember what I showed you. Just try some different-different shapes and-and-and that pout that we talked about. Ohh, no, not that one. (to Hardison) I didn't show her that.
Sophie: Kind of... just, you know, just relax. Try one up, one down. Maybe... So...
(Parker continues to pose)
Sophie: Ooh, yeah. Shoot that.
(Hardison snaps photos)
Sophie: Ooh, I like that. That's gonna work.
(Sophie uses the remote to place Parker into a photo of Worth)
Sophie: Okay. Yes.
Hardison: Looks good.
Sophie: I can work with that.
(Parker drops her clothes to the floor)
Hardison: Whoa. Oh! Whoa.
Sophie: Parker!
Hardison: Why am I looking away
this scene is iconic lmfao
also hardison you’re not looking because you’re a goddamn GENTLEMAN and we love you for it
+ she takes off all her clothes and puts on a baret LMFAO
- - - - -
parker and hardison smiling at each other as they map out the prison
+
THEY CLASP HANDS HAPPILY
- - - - -
Parker: Who's Sophie?
Hardison: You remember, we're not supposed to use her real name with, uh...
Parker: Right, Nate hasn't earned it yet. Forgot. Sophie. Sophie. So-phie. So-o-o-phie. Sophie. S-s-s-sophie. Sophie
we love parker trying to act cool and normal and fumble about it. she’s baby
- - - - -
Eliot: All right, we cut that wire.
Hardison: No. No, look, once a lockdown is called, all these sensors go hot and those door bolts drop into place.
Parker: I got it! The furnace room. There's no sensors because it's too hot. They crawl straight down along the heating pipes until they reach the sewage system. Ha ha!
[Prison Common Area]
Nate: Now, Parker, it's a 150 degrees in there.
[Leverage HQ]
Parker: The average human can withstand that for 27 seconds.
(Hardison and Eliot look away)
Parker: What? Come on
the ot3 is trying your honor
also parker is adorable playing with the model helicopter remote while laying down on the table
- - - - -
Worth: Then fire them. What's the use of being non-union if I can't fire people?
GROSS
- - - - -
Nate: Parker, please tell me you're at Hardison's new van.
[Exterior Prison]
Parker: Yeah, it's really nice.
[Prison Common Area]
Nate: Did you bring it?
[Exterior Prison]
Parker: Wait, are we doing that now?
[Prison Common Area]
Nate: Yeah, we're gonna breaking out right now.
[Exterior Prison]
Parker: Yes! (gets into van)
SHES SO EXCITED + she likes the new van!!!
- - - - -
Nate: A little sloppy.
Eliot: New glasses. (takes them off and looks at them)
OKAY SO DOES HE NEED GLASSES OR NOT ???
also he did the lil flip thing with the security guard nightstick
- - - - -
Computer: Lockdown.
Nate: Okay. (pushes door open and holds up a folded piece of paper) Newspaper folded eight times can support a ton of weight. Come on.
(they head down the hall)
- - - - -
Sophie: Motion sensor. Nate.
Nate: Steam's filling up now.
[Prison Kitchen]
(Nate walks slowly toward exit)
Nate: Motion sensor beat.
[Freezer]
(Nate enters and grabs a plastic bag, draping it around him)
[Leverage HQ]
Sophie: Breathe.
[Prison Mechanical Room]
(Nate pushes out a grate and enters the room, the bag covered in ice)
Nate: And heat sensor cleared. Last stop.
(throws off bag and exits the room)
- - - - -
parker was having so much fun with the model helicopter I love it
- - - - -
Hardison: You, yeah. Ha. See, I like this. I like when we pretend to kiss.
Parker: "Pretend"?
Hardison: Heeeey
- - - - -
Nate: What about my team?
Italian: They lead dangerous lives. Thieves die all the time.
Nate (steps close to her): Now that you should not have said.
Italian: I don't know. You seem highly motivated. (walks away)
- - - - -
Sophie: Damien Moreau? Are you out of your mind? Nobody touches Moreau!
Hardison: Nate, Moreau finances the Sicilians, the Russian mafia, the Colombian cartels.
Eliot: Yeah, he moves money for the North Koreans, stolen artifacts for Iraq, nuclear materials for Iran.
Hardison: Moreau is The Big Bad. He is the central bank for international crime.
Parker: N-nate, these files are CIA, FBI, Mossad, Japanese Security
poor eliot this season is gonna be Rough™ for him :(
- - - - -
Sophie: She's blackmailing us?
Nate: She's... she's... she's sort of... Yeah. Yeah.
Parker: Sucks to be on the wrong side of that, finally.
- - - - -
Eliot: We can't go straight at a guy like Moreau. They'll vaporize us.
ELIOT was the one that finally gave in and gave up some information on how to go at this. eliot. because he knows moreau. he knows how that man works. so he knows he has to be the one to start the conversation, even though he hates it with every fiber of his being.

The Witcher Wolf: In Plain Sight
Two years have passed since Geralt was cursed with the ability to turn into a wolf whenever his medallion is removed, a curse that’s turned into a blessing now that he and Jaskier are partners in everything they do.
It’s no exception when they discover a Nilfgaardian army bearing down on Cintra, headed straight toward a certain child surprise. With Jaskier’s help and Geralt’s enchanted medallion they must find a way to get into the palace, make sure Princess Cirilla is safe, and get out with her in tow if needed, regardless of Queen Calanthe’s orders.
[Chapter 1: Into the Fire]  [Chapter 2: Old Friend] [Chapter 3: Bad Luck] [Chapter 4: So Much For Being Smart]
Chapter 5: Secrets
Geralt had been inside a besieged city several times before Cintra.
He knew what it felt like to be able to taste fear in the dead air as those trapped inside waited. A kind of waiting that was heavy with the anxiety of knowing time had already run out, that you could do nothing and that nothing could be done. A whole city that knew the cards had already been dealt, and that their only chance of survival rested on the increasingly slim chance that the enemy would make a wrong move.
Because two days had passed with Cintra surrounded by the Nilfgaardian armies and all the guests from the banquet the night they had arrived were still anxiously locked down within the castle walls. It was no secret that Queen Calanthe had miscalculated this game, and that she had few possible moves left to her to try and win it.
One possible move in fact, Geralt realized as he stuck close to Ciri’s side in the palace courtyard, watching Queen Calanthe trot her warhorse back and forth across the gravel as she shouted a rousing speech to her troops with a voice amplified by one of her mages.
This royal army she was about to lead out to the front lines was her last move. This was the final card to play that had been dealt to her. And it was a weak one.
Geralt wondered how many of the soldiers in the stiff, spit-shined ranks lining the courtyard realized that.
“They’ll be okay Wolf, don’t worry.” Ciri said to him, her voice shaking a bit as she stood straight.
Geralt whined, pressing up against her comfortingly as she rested a hand on his ruff. Her fingers held tight to his fur, betraying her anxiety as they watched Calanthe and Eist complete the ceremonial rousing of the troops before battle.
“I know you’re worried about them,” Ciri whispered, the girl clearly talking more to herself. “But they always come back from battles alright, you’ll see.”
After two days of spending nearly every moment at Ciri’s side--hearing every thought and worry she told only to him as the chill of the lockdown settled over the castle, letting her curl up next to him when she awoke in the middle of the night with nightmares, even managing to coax rare smiles and laughs out of her with his doggish antics despite his own consuming worries about Jaskier--Geralt was entirely fed up by now with her not knowing who he truly was.
He wanted to be able to do more than be her secret mute companion, he wanted to gather her up and get her out of this doomed city to somewhere safe, to find Jaskier and get all of them away before Calanthe’s last desperate ploy failed. But without Jaskier and the medallion all Geralt had been able to do was wait just as uselessly as everyone else trapped in the castle. Waiting for the right moment to reveal himself. Waiting to catch another hint of Jaskier’s scent. Waiting for Nilfgaardian soldiers to spill into the castle and cut all of their throats.
A roar of a cheer filled the courtyard as the queen finished her speech, raising her sword in a show of might as she got her horse to rear impressively. A show that did nothing to change the fact that Geralt was sure that most if not all of the men crowded into the courtyard would not be returning from this foray as whole corpses, let alone alive.
The troops seen to and now beginning to file out of the courtyard, Calanthe and Eist trotted over toward them, dismounting when they got close. The queen and prince regent were both in full armor but Ciri still rushed to hug them anyway, her anxiety finally leaking through.
“Be good for Mousesack, little cub,” Eist said, kissing her forehead and ruffling her hair with a smile. “We’ll be back before you know it, just as soon as we run these bastards off our land.”
“What if you don’t?” Ciri asked, eyes wide with fright.
“Then-”
“We will.” Calanthe interrupted. “We always win.”
Eist gave her a grim look, “It does the girl no good to coat a hard future in honey, Calanthe.”
“Is it better to admit defeat before we’ve even reached the battlefield?” Calanthe shot back. She looked away for a moment, then back to Ciri. “If something were to happen to us you would still be cared for by the court advisors, there are plans to keep you safe Cirilla, but we’ll be back soon so we won’t need them.”
“Alright.” Ciri said bravely, clearly not at all alright judging by how painfully tight her grip on Geralt’s fur was.
“Your majesty, if I might have a word?”
Geralt looked up at the approaching man and bristled to see it was the man from the banquet, the one with a grey streak in his hair who had smelled of Jaskier. Geralt scented the air as the man drew closer, barely managing to keep himself from growling even when he didn’t smell anything of Jaskier on him.
Calanthe nodded to the man, kissing Ciri on the cheek before waving her away to follow one of her ladies in waiting and beckoning Mousesack over instead. Geralt hesitated, knowing he was supposed to follow Ciri
“I’ll bring Wolf in with me in a minute Princess.” Mousesack said to Ciri with a smile, seeing Geralt’s hesitation. “I think he wants to be outside a bit longer.”
“Master Wilhelm has been creating contingency plans for getting Ciri to safety.” Queen Calanthe said as soon as the princess was out of earshot, her voice sounding twice as tired as it had only a moment ago. “If anything does happen to Eist and I then you’re to follow his direction, Mousesack.”
“And what is the plan?” the druid asked soberly.
“There’s seven plans at the moment, none perfect.” Wilhelm said grimly. “The pieces on the board are still moving so I won’t know which is the best until the fatal hour arrives.” He looked at the queen. “Although the longer we wait the worse our options will be...”
“We are not removing Ciri until we absolutely must.” Calanthe said, irritation in her voice. “We still have a viable chance at beating them back today, I’m not going to needlessly bundle my granddaughter out the back gate and into the waiting hands of the enemy because I was too afraid.”
“Your majesty, we are in dire straights.” Wilhelm said carefully. “No one would dream of judging you a coward for taking advantage of what few choices you-”
“I must join my troops.” Calanthe said sharply, putting her helmet on and looking away. “If the worst does happen you are to inform Mousesack of the best option for saving your future queen. Mousesack, you are to guard her with your life.”
“Yes your majesty.” Both men said in unison, bowing as Calanthe walked away.
Mousesack put a steadying hand on Geralt’s head as they turned to head back into the castle.
“Mousesack.” Wilhelm said.
“Yes?” the druid asked, pausing.
“You’re an old friend with Geralt of Rivia, the witcher, are you not?” Wilhelm asked casually.
Geralt froze, looking up to see the druid just as stiff.
“I am, I met him decades ago.” Mousesack said carefully, looking like he was trying very hard not to glance down at Geralt.
“You haven’t heard from him recently, have you?” Wilhelm asked, looking at him.
“You know her majesty has banished him from her lands.” Mousesack said slowly. “To contact him while serving in such a high position in her court would be near treason.”
“As the royal spymaster it is my profession to foretell the future and maneuver to the best possible version of it.” Wilhelm said, looking at the druid. Judging by the look in his eyes Geralt guessed the man hadn’t slept in two days. “And I see only one future Mousesack. We all die. Those of us who are very lucky will have one of the small bottles the kitchen staff are filling with poison as we speak. The rest of us will exit this life rather slowly with war cries glorying the eternal flame in our ears and a Nilfgaardian blade in our bellies.”
“Wilhelm, why are you telling me this?” Mousesack asked, voice dry. Geralt could smell the unease seeping off him.
Wilhelm leaned in close to whisper in Mousesack’s ear, quiet enough that only Geralt’s witcher hearing could be able to eavesdrop.
“I have extremely good reason to believe that there is a witcher lurking somewhere in the city and that he may in fact be interested in the princess’ wellbeing.” Wilhelm breathed. “If you have the ability, communicate to him that if he appears now it is my duty to put him to death on sight, but that the moment Calanthe is reported dead my loyalties lie with Ciri, at which point I would very much like to give him the princess, his bard, and the fastest three horses in Cintra with as much cover fire I can muster. Is that clear?”
“There is no response I can give that would not be counted as treason.” Mousesack said, just as quietly as he looked away across the courtyard.
“Which is why I do not ask one of you.” Wilhelm said easily. He patted Mousesack on the shoulder and then walked away, leaving the druid and the wolf to watch him leave in stunned silence.
Geralt watched the spymaster disappear back into the castle and a growl bubbled up through his shock. The man might know Geralt was in the city, but he didn’t know he was a wolf which meant he hadn’t broken Jaskier yet. Most importantly, if he’d offered Jaskier as a bargaining chip in the message he’d given Mousesack that meant the spymaster had his bard, which made him a very dead man once Geralt got his teeth on-
“Don’t you dare go after him.” Mousesack hissed icily, his hand locking onto Geralt’s collar before he had a chance to move, instead dragging him in the opposite direction back to the princess’ chambers. “Don’t you dare be so foolish Geralt, I will slam you down with magic before you even get two steps in his direction.”
Geralt whined and growled but angrily followed the druid as they entered a long marble hallway lined with pillars.
“I know he made it sound like he has the bard, but we don’t know for sure and it will be suicide to try and find out before Wilhelm wants us to.” Mousesack said. “Wilhelm is a good spymaster but he’s a good man too Geralt, if he’s using Jaskier as a bargaining chip he’ll keep the bard in good condition, he’s not the kind to cause harm where it’s not needed.”
Geralt’s ears were still pinned back with a whine. You don’t know that for sure, and there’s all kinds of pain a spymaster can cause in two days without killing a man.
“If Wilhelm thinks the city will fall then we can be sure that it will,” Mousesack continued. “The greatest difficulty will be getting the medallion from him before-”
“He’s magic isn’t he?”
Geralt and Mousesack jumped, looking over to see where Ciri was leaning out from behind a pillar she’d been hiding behind.
“Princess.” Mousesack said, voice suddenly very dry. “I...”
“I saw you talking to him, really talking to him. Don’t try to pretend it was nothing just because I’m a child.” Ciri said, tilting her chin up. “I know he’s different, I can tell he knows what I’m saying to him, and he feels different than other dogs do. What is he really? A doppler hired to keep an eye on me? A wolf you enchanted to be smarter to protect me while I’m in the market?”
Mousesack swallowed, looking around helplessly, glancing down at Geralt.
Geralt scented the air, paying attention this time for any other scents in the hallway but found nothing that would indicate a second eavesdropper. Well. There was no hiding it now was there? Not with so little time left to them before things got truly bad.
He trotted over to Ciri, pushing his nose against her palm before looking back at Mousesack expectantly. Tell her.
“Excellent.” Mousesack said, scrubbing a hand across his face with an exasperated sigh. “Two instances of treason in the same five minutes. A truly excellent afternoon.” He snapped his fingers and a ripple of magic surrounded the three of them.
“Just to keep anyone from overhearing us.” Mousesack explained when Ciri looked at him. “Cirilla, do you know what the law of surprise is?”
“It’s that thing in stories, isn’t it? Where someone gets a reward for helping someone?” Ciri asked, looking confused. “I had a nurse who used to tell me stories about it when I was little, but then she left and no one else tells me those stories.”
Geralt winced, trying not to think about what had happened to the poor nurse for such a flagrant indiscrecion around the princess.
“Well many years ago your grandfather King Roegner was saved by your father.” Mousesack said, glancing around uncomfortably, as if Calanthe would leap out of the shadows at him at any moment. “In return he was promised your mother through the law of surprise, a claim he made when she was of marrying age. Your grandmother was...unhappy with the arrangement, but there was a man named Geralt who stepped in to keep your father from being...stopped. After Geralt helped convince your grandmother to allow your parents to be together your father granted him the law of surprise, and the reward was you.”
“Me?” Ciri asked, her face screwing up in confusion. “You mean like a betrothal?”
“No, not like a betrothal.” Mousesack chuckled. “You are his child surprise, destiny has decreed that you belong to him as much as you ever belonged to your parents or grandmother, more even.”
“Then why haven’t I ever met him?” Ciri demanded. “And what does this have to do with Wolf?”
“Your grandmother forbade anyone from ever speaking of him.” Mousesack said. “He was forbidden to ever return to Cintra and your grandmother would have killed him if he’d tried, she is afraid of losing you like she was of losing your mother.
“As for Wolf,” Mousesack sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “Apparently in the last few years Geralt has acquired the ability to transform into a wolf under the right circumstances. When he heard about the Nilfgaardians he came into the city disguised to make sure you were safe. And you found him first it seems.”
“Oh.” Ciri said, blinking in surprise and jerking her hand away from Geralt’s head.
Geralt swallowed, looking up at Ciri. If she was frightened or decided she felt betrayed or disturbed by the revelation he would have no choice but to give her as much space as he safely could. A beginning to their relationship that he’d desperately been hoping to avoid.
“I’m sorry for petting you, Geralt.” Ciri said, looking unsure as she addressed him, but to Geralt’s surprised relief she didn’t smell frightened. “I hope you didn’t mind too much, I didn’t know you were a person.”
Geralt wagged his tail, panting in a doggish smile as he nudged his head back under her hand. It’s alright.
Ciri smiled, relaxing a little as she pet him again. “Well if you don’t mind I suppose we’re alright then.” She frowned. “But this does mean I won’t forgive you for chasing the cook’s cat if you really do know better. I don’t suppose you can talk? Or change back into a person?”
“He can’t speak in this form, and he won’t be able to change back until...the time is right.” Mousesack said, glancing at Geralt’s subtle shake of the head before glossing over the problem of the missing bard, the missing medallion, and the fact that the right moment would be the death of Ciri’s grandparents.
“I heard you talking about Jaskier the bard.” Ciri said, her eyes brightening. “I haven’t seen him since two birthdays ago, I miss him. Why were you talking about him? Does Geralt know him? Is he alright?”
“He, ah.” Mousesack looked at Geralt who gave no real reply, trusting Mousesack to say the right thing. “He’s alright as far as we know, he’s in the city and he’s due to meet up with us soon. He’s Geralt’s partner, so we’re just a bit worried about him is all because of the siege.”
Ciri clapped her hands, her expression looking torn between delight and concern. “You’re his partner! You’re the one he sang all those love songs about then, how lovely! Oh, but is he really alright then? Can’t we bring him to the castle sooner so he can be safe too?”
Geralt sighed. It was probably for the best that the princess mistakenly thought the castle would be any safer than the rest of Cintra if her grandmother’s forces failed, but it was going to make for a terrible revelation in the almost guaranteed occurrence that a sober messenger arrived at the castle gates in the next few hours from the battlefield.
“He’ll be here as soon as he’s able.” Mousesack said with a thin smile. Doubtlessly thinking the same thing as Geralt. “But until then Geralt must remain a wolf and we all must keep very quiet about all of this, understood princess?”
“I understand. I’m eager to see Jaskier again after so long though, I hope he comes soon.” Ciri looked at Geralt curiously. “What does Geralt look like when he’s a person?”
“He slays monsters for a living, he’s big and strong and mean looking, even if he’s secretly a caring and honest man underneath it all.” Mousesack said, smiling at Geralt’s huff at the description. “I haven’t seen him since before you were born, but last I know he had long white hair and golden eyes like a cat that shine in the darkness.”
“White hair?” Ciri asked. “So he’s old then?”
“Older than anyone you’ve ever met, but he looks much younger than I do.” Mousesack said with a wry smile.
“Well, I’m excited to get to speak to you and have you able to speak back.” Ciri said, hugging Geralt’s neck.
He wagged his tail at her, nosing at her ear affectionately despite his unease. Because at least after several days of everything going wrong, this one thing had gone well. There was no telling what the coming hours would bring with Calanthe’s ill-fated foray into the battlefield and they still didn’t know where Jaskier or the medallion were, but at least this one small thing had gone alright. Ciri didn’t hate him for his secret and she was even eager to see Jaskier too.
If only Geralt could escape the rising anxiety that came from knowing that this could very well be the last thing that would ever go right for any of them.

Ciri: "Hey Mousesack, watcha' got there?"
Mousesack, clearly having just been speaking to a wolf: "A smoothie."

Rates of COVID 19 infections rise among university students living in university halls/accommodation.
Edited by Glory Obe, July 19 2021
In April 2021, reports were made regarding the shocking rise of COVID-19 cases among the student population living in university halls and accommodation following the massive relaxing of lockdown restraints and the opening of non-essential outlets. The reports also shown that cases actually started falling again amongst students from February 2021 to May 2021 because of the strict lockdown rules put in place following the Christmas holidays.
We collected information from many universities across the country, and we found out that the risk of spread in residential settings, such as dormitories, shared facilities such as kitchens and student residences, was very high. There was almost no evidence that the virus was spreading in face-to-face teaching settings such as classrooms and conference halls.
In early September of 2020, the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) warned that if all university students travel to their respectable universities to study, this will present a "serious risk" of continuing the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK. They also stated that it is highly likely for universities to experience a major outbreak because of the mass travelling and they were right.
Nevertheless, even with all the reports, it is quite hard to obtain the necessary information on the frequency and transmission of COVID-19 among higher education students in England. The Covid Information Survey does not account for the individuals living within university halls of residence, only people showing symptoms of COVID are tested with the NHS Track and Trace and not all testing programmes and facilities run by individual universities are within convenient reach. Therefore, a lot of students are not even getting tested.
We worked with and interviewed some students at the University of Wolverhampton that live in halls and university accommodations and asked them about their living experience during this pandemic.
The lockdown rules relaxed on the 12 April and cases of COVID-19 among students at the University of Wolverhampton rose fastest in the first 2 weeks from that date, from April 12 to April 26.
David 21, who is studying biomedical science and is in his last year at the University of Wolverhampton, was able to have a zoom call with us detailing his experience so far. This is what he had to say:
I was a bit apprehensive coming back to uni in September because I really wanted to be able to receive all the academic help that I could since it was my last year. But I also didn’t want to take a year out because I have come this far already. And the university were emailing us, informing us that they were making sure that they would implement rules, guidelines and steps in all accommodations and lecture halls to make it a covid safe environment.
I stay at the university owned halls, we had to book dates in September to collect our keys instead of us all moving in in two days. Face masks were mandatory in campus and social distancing measures were adhered to. Even though from September, after the eat out to help out scheme in August, cases started to rise again in the country. However, it wasn’t focused on university students. From September to early December of 2020, as you know restraints were tightened following the spike, but it wasn’t a full-blown lockdown. Students were getting covid, but they were not making up majority of the percentages in data reports during those months.
In the picture below, you can see that David’s accommodation had a covid cleaning rota for each floor and outlines how to effectively keep their communal areas sanitary. Social distancing is also to be done when the cleaner is present.
Tumblr media
Hand Sanitsing stations are also present at the entrance of every accommodation that must be used as you enter and exit the building.
Tumblr media
All these measures in place coupled with lockdown restraints kept the infection rates at bay. And then I went back home for Christmas, and I knew rates of infections were going to get even higher because of the holiday festivities so I was prepared and ready for another lockdown. We were in a proper lockdown from January to April and everyone was fed up.
I felt sorry for the new first year students because being in your uni room all the time is not the university experience at all. So as soon as Boris Johnson announced the road map to freedom starting with opening non-essential outlets and allowing places to open late, I knew students were going to really take advantage of that. The rule of six was also re-introduced so everyone was mixing with everyone again and seeing friends and family and then coming back to their accommodations.
The university accommodations tried their best but that rapid increase in April was inevitable in my opinion.

Whump Prompt 26 - Shot.
I fear that I'll fail to bring across the depth of what's in my mind, yet again. But here we go! This only took me about 3+ weeks to write.
TWs: Blood, injury detail, PTSD flashbacks, sci-fi violence (Halo-typical) The worst of it is under the cut. I'd like to thank CIA391 from Halopedia for the info and chat we had about the Blamite and how it works, plus the Superfund peeps for keeping me motivated to write when it's been grinding to a halt.
"Arcus Actual, Arcus Two: we've got the spaceport on lockdown. Got a fair few Covie vehicles here, some gear they were trying to get out before we took 'em down."
"Arcus Actual. Nice work, Spartans. We'll be in touch shortly."
The Spartan ducked to the side, his armor blaring warnings at him as a beam rifle strike intended for Commander Lasky struck Corey's chest, his shields taking the brunt of the impact - though he staggered from the force of the shot. Captain Del Rio had sent Lasky and a small contingent of Marines to scout out a former Covenant supply depot - one which supposedly contained a number of Forerunner relics. "Keep your damned head down!" The Spartan-II snapped, suddenly realizing who he was talking to. "Sir." He muttered. 'Spartan time' was in full effect, and he searched for the familiar red glow of the Jackal's helmet, his eyes recovering quickly from the afterburn from the beam.
"Two o'clock high! Suppressing fire!" Corey bellowed into the comms, forcing Lasky into what passed for cover as though he weighed nothing. They could observe proper etiquette when his charge - his friend - wasn't in danger. Shots rang out, followed by the whoosh of an M41 rocket launcher. The satisfaction of the detonation was only surpassed by the squawk of the Jackal in question, and a grim smirk crossed his hidden features. Gesturing for the marines to circle the complex, Corey tossed a pair of grenades into what his motion tracker told him was the last holdout of enemies in play. They detonated, and bodies went flying.
The trouble with motion trackers was simple. They were perfect for detecting incoming threats, and he'd even worked with several of the toys that ONI had developed to identify the electronic frequencies which the Elites' active camouflage gave off. If a second sniper was set back outside of the forty-meter range of his motion tracker, but also immobile, they were incredibly difficult to spot, even for someone with a Spartan's enhanced vision. His hand was still on Lasky's shoulder, keeping the Commander down behind the nanolaminate wall when the shots rang out.
Corey's reflexes were perhaps the fastest of any Spartan-II outside of Kelly, and only Kelly had been able to defeat him consistently in terms of raw speed - with his HERMES-class Mjolnir armor he was practically untouchable. The sound of shattering glass pierced the whine of his shield monitor, as the first of three blamite shards from a needle rifle struck the top of the wall. He was moving, faster than Lasky had seen a human - Spartan or not - move. It wasn't enough. It saved his life, without question - he still had vivid memories of what one of those needles could do to an unshielded Spartan, as Kat had died before he'd even managed to catch her. Corey only managed to move enough to turn a lethal blow into a gut shot, the third needle glancing off of the top of his domed visor.
He dropped behind cover, and Lasky stared at him, calling for a medic on comms, but receiving only static in reply. There was a level of panic radiating from the commander that Corey had never seen, in all the years he'd known the man. "Lasky!" Half a tonne of Spartan slammed into the nanolaminate surface, and Corey could see that Infinity's commander was somewhere else entirely.
He was shocked that the blamite crystal hadn't detonated, the pink-purple shard was pulsing, threatening to do just that, and it'd lodged itself directly beneath his armor plate. It needed to removing carefully, and he didn't have an angle to do so. Lasky was miles, or perhaps years away, and Corey knew that he had to reach him.
"Lasky!" He barked again, with all the authority he could muster. In his mind, it was the voice of Chief Mendez, the authoritative bark he heard whenever he needed to push himself just that little bit harder. The part of a soldier's brain which resonates with that tone, drilled in from morning to night for years woke up, and he blinked rapidly, memories of the bodies of his classmates drifting into the background of his vision, threatening to resurface at any time.
Everything was a blur. Smoke and shadow, darkness lit by streaks of green and pink, the muzzle flashes of ODST's fighting a valiant, losing fight. Mehaffey had been protecting him, as well. "Get to the dorm! Go!" Her gestures were frantic, but she remained in control. "Go! Go! GO!" And then that sound, needler fire struck her chest, her shoulders and took her off of her feet. His mind was on a loop, deafened by the cacophony of this brand new war that had burst into their young lives in a blaze of plasma fire. A hand grabbed him, hard, dragging him into the light...
"Tom, I need you here. Now." Corey was holding the wound closed around the shard, he needed it gone, but it was all Tom could do to look his reflection in the face. He slipped back into it.
It was a nightmare; it had to be. Aliens? Here? Hastati was cut in half, only saved by the timely intervention of Master Chief 117. He never found out his name, if he even had one, just the number stenciled onto his armor. He trusted the Chief with his life, though he couldn't place why, and that trust was well placed, as he took fire, saving them again. Sully was hit but walking. General Black's lifeless eyes haunted him as he dragged his body from his Warthog, and fear kept his head down as he tried desperately to get the vehicle started. And then they were clear. It was incredibly surreal, escaping into the forest, weapons blaring around him as those creatures with shields fell, Chyler putting her years of rifle training to efficient use. They were retreating as the Spartan, and the cadre of cadets sped towards the Pelican. Someone yelled, he wasn't quite sure who, and the vehicle was blasted by the wash of a plasma grenade. The cadet slammed on the brakes, fearing that he'd send them off into the trees if he didn't stop until his vision cleared, the thump of a jackal hitting the windshield reminding him that he needed to get the engine running as fast as possible, but it wasn't working.
The report of a Battle Rifle firing jogged Tom out of his reverie, the Spartan beside him finding it in himself to take out the sniper, despite his injury. The first burst missed entirely, but the next was on point. Three rounds, spread further than usual because he was shaking with the effort to hold himself up pierced the Jackal's skull, killing it instantly. Corey could feel the blood beneath his armor's undersuit, and he dropped. It was far from the most blood he'd lost, but he knew he needed it sealing, and soon.
Gunfire wasn't enough to break Lasky from his waking nightmare entirely, and Corey was running out of options, aside from simply slapping his face.
"Tom? Tom?!" Each moment that he didn't react, Chyler's voice became more panicked. Once he realized what was going on, he screamed for the Chief, but he had no biofoam. They had to get her to the Pelican before she bled out, which would've been a challenge on a good day, and today was definitely not one of those. They ran as best as they could, panting breaths and Chyler's whimpers punctuated only by the staccato sound of 117's assault rifle and the roars of the creature that dwarfed even their savior. Terror propelled them forward, but that adrenaline only carried them so far. They were all exhausted and had been running on fumes since the invasion had started. They were cadets, not ODSTs; they weren't prepared for this. How could they be?
More Covenant troops were exiting the facility, and Corey would've typically used this time to rush the doors, blast his way through the Covie line and get inside, a tactic the Spartans had used to great effect on numerous occasions. His body geared itself up for the sprint, even before the logical aspect of his brain reminded him that he had to protect Tom until the Marines returned, and the pain told him that he was still injured. His shields refused to recharge, likely because of the Subanese shard sticking through his abdomen. Corey released his hold on the crystal, a strange combination of pulsing heat and cold, he pulled the fiberoptic camera from a pouch attached to his armor. The camera displayed on his HUD, and if he'd had more time, he'd have connected the Smart Link from his BR-55 as well, but as it was, he just had to make guesses. At the whine of a plasma grenade on the other side of their barrier, the Spartan covered the Commander's form with his armored body, the detonation shaking Tom out of his reverie, as tears streamed down his cheek, dripping onto his fist that appeared to be miming holding another person's hand.
Corey fired blind, adjusting the angle of his rifle based on the trace of each three round burst. He killed two of the new arrivals, though he managed to drive the rest back into cover, waiting for them to pop their heads up.
"You've seen this before, haven't you, sir?" The Spartan asked, noting Lasky's reaction as his eyes flickered down to the injury.
The Commander nodded; his eyes glassy with tears. Corey recalled John telling him what had happened during their evacuation of Corbulo - the way that his friend had died. Corey winced, though not from the pain. Along with Linda, he'd flown the Pelican out of there, but he'd not met any of the cadets when they reached their destination, not meeting Lasky until years later, during his pilot days.
"I understand that this is painful for you, sir, but I need you to focus." Corey rumbled. "The Marines will be back soon, but we need to take the first steps n- keep your damned head down, sir!" The Spartan's voice was warm and steady, holding a comforting certainty that hadn't been getting through to Infinity's XO until he got snappy. He wasn't feeling as confident as he sounded, but he knew that he needed to project that for Lasky's sake.
Lasky came closer, and as he took a closer look at Corey's wound, the remaining color drained from his face. He looked as though he was about to either vomit or vanish into his head once again, until the Spartan gripped his arm, hard. The pain was enough to keep him focused on the present. "Look, Tom, this won't kill me, but I need your help." He shook the Commander's arm, for emphasis. "Focus on my voice, Tom. Everything will be okay, and I just need you to focus on doing as I say. I'll walk you through it." He paused a moment, switching off his vocoder as he gasped with pain. "Freya, can you make sure that my shields don't recharge? Last thing I need is to be ripped apart because that energy overloads the crystal."
There was a momentary pause, and the alarm cut. "I've disconnected it from your armor's power supply, Corey. Just remember not to stick your head into the line of fire until after we've booted it back up. I'm not a fan of you injuring yourself." Despite the rich amusement in the AI's tone, he knew that she was entirely serious.
"Yes dear." He deadpanned, and for a moment her avatar glowed green on his HUD, arms crossed and shaking her head.
"What do you need me to do?" Lasky's shaky voice cut in. There he was - the soldier that John had described from Corbulo. Brave despite what he was feeling, or perhaps because of it. Corey passed him a biofoam canister, a small model which he kept on his belt for extended field missions, something that came in useful in this case as his suit's injectors were either empty, or the local one was damaged, and he hadn't realized. Ideally, the shard would've been removed with actual medical equipment, but it wasn't the first time he'd had to improvise in the field.
Finding a neatly folded square of slightly grease-splattered cloth in one of his belt pouches, he passed it over as well. Tom was shaking, perhaps too much to do what was necessary, and Corey's eyes darted rapidly from side to side as he searched the officer's face, searching for something for him to hold onto. He couldn't comfort him the way he did other Spartans, it simply wasn't enough for the vast majority of people. "Pop open the biofoam canister, ready to use. One layer of cloth around your fingers, to avoid any potential charge transference," Corey told him, forced steadiness in his tone. It might have been seconds, minutes or even hours since he took the hit, but he could feel that he needed this dealt with now. "Take hold of the end in one hand, slide it towards you, gently, as straight as you can. Biofoam goes in straight after."
"Okay." The Commander breathed, his fingers shaking.
"Tom, look at me. The Master Chief believed in you, all those years ago. If he were here today, he would still. I know that because I do. Right here and now. You can do this." Lasky's eyes hardened, his jaw setting at the mention of John, the confidence that he'd shown in Tom all those years ago still stirred something in him now. He wouldn't let him down.
His gauntlet-clad fist squeezed his battle rifle with enough force that the casing creaked, cracking under his powerful grip, heat, and cold, as well as jolts of electrical charge, coursing through the area of the wound as the subanese crystal shivered its way free. Tom inserted the biofoam end, and the sensation changed, a combination of a crawling itch, pain, and relief blending themselves together as the life-saving substance did its work.
"Save some, Tom." He gestured towards the crystal. "Coat that in it, and let's get it into the canister. It's rare that we see them like this outside of lab conditions, maybe it'll give us new answers." He was in too much pain to smile with any feeling, so out of reflex, two fingers came up in front of his mouth, swiping across quickly, as the Commander frowned, then realization set in.

GDP Growth Of India
India's economy expanded by 8.4 percent year-on-year in July-September 2021, following a record 20.1 percent growth in the previous three-month period and matching market expectations. The reading marked a fourth straight quarter of expansion, as coronavirus-related disruptions continued to ease and as the economic activity rebounded helped by a faster pace of vaccinations and a drop in cases. By sectors, service activity growth was supported by increases in trade, hotels, transport & communication (8.2% vs 34.3%), financial, real estate & professional services (7.8% vs 3.7%), and public administration, defense & other services (17.4% vs 5.8%). In addition, output rose for manufacturing (5.5% vs 49.6%), mining & quarrying (15.4% vs 18.6%), utilities (8.9% vs 14.3%), construction (7.5% vs 68.3%), and agriculture (4.5%, the same as in July-September). The Reserve Bank of India has forecast annual growth of 9.5 percent in the current fiscal year. ISS coaching in Lucknow explains and covers in this article India’s GDP growth rate – whether headed up or down ?
Tumblr media
As things stand in India, when we say that the Indian economy grew by 10 per cent in a particular quarter (that is, a period of three months) what it essentially means is that the total GDP of the country in that quarter was 10 per cent more than the total GDP produced in the same quarter a year ago.
Similarly, when we say the economy contracted by 8 per cent this year what we mean to say is that the total output of the economy (as calculated by GDP) is 8 per cent less than the total output of the economy in the preceding year.
This is called the year-on-year (YoY) method of arriving at the growth rate.
But this is not the only way to arrive at a growth rate. One could have compared GDP quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) — that is, compare the GDP in the current quarter with the GDP in the preceding quarter. For that matter, theoretically speaking, if the data were available, one could calculate the growth rate month-on-month (MoM) or even week-on-week.
 India GDP Annual Growth Rate
The most important and the fastest growing sector of Indian economy are services. Trade, hotels, transport and communication; financing, insurance, real estate and business services and community, social and personal services account for more than 60 percent of GDP. Agriculture, forestry and fishing constitute around 12 percent of the output, but employs more than 50 percent of the labor force. Manufacturing accounts for 15 percent of GDP, construction for another 8 percent and mining, quarrying, electricity, gas and water supply for the remaining 5 percent.
India GDP Grows 8.4% in July-September
India's economy expanded by 8.4 percent year-on-year in July-September 2021, following a record 20.1 percent growth in the previous three-month period and matching market expectations. The reading marked a fourth straight quarter of expansion, as coronavirus-related disruptions continued to ease .
Indian Economy Expands at a Record 20.1% in Q2
The Indian economy expanded at a record 20.1% year-on-year in Q2 2021, slightly higher than market forecasts of 20%, amid a low base effect from last year and despite a second wave of covid-19 infections and localised lockdowns.
India GDP Growth Beats Forecasts at 1.6% in Q1
The Indian economy expanded 1.6% year-on-year in Q1 2021, accelerating from an upwardly revised 0.5% growth in Q4 and beating market forecasts of 1%. It was the 2nd straight quarter of growth since the country exit a pandemic-induced recession.
Tumblr media
Commenting on India’s GDP outlook, Barnabas Gan, an economist at UOB, noted: “In a nutshell, India’s growth prospects will depend largely on how Covid-19 evolves. India’s GDP had expanded strongly from its full-year contraction of 7.3% in FY2020/21, and anecdotal evidence from lower Covid-19 infections and higher vaccination rates are credible signals that the economy is gearing towards a more resilient growth pattern. On the back of an accommodative monetary policy expected in the year ahead, coupled with a strong fiscal response as seen from the Union Budget, we keep to our full-year growth outlook of 8.5% in FY2021/22.”
FocusEconomics panelists project GDP to expand 9.0% in FY 2021, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and increase 7.3% in FY 2022, which is up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month’s estimate.
The Economic Survey has projected the Indian economy will grow between 8 and 8.5 per cent in 2022-23, amid expectations of recovery in momentum due to the benefits of the supply-side reforms announced by the Narendra Modi government in the last two years.
However, the survey added the caveat that its projections are based on the assumption that with Covid-19 infections dipping, there won’t be further pandemic-related disruptions, and oil prices will remain in the $70-75/barrel range, among others. The price hit a fresh seven-year high of $88.85 per barrel Friday, the highest level since October 2014, according to data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell.
“This projection is also based on the assumption that there will be no further debilitating pandemic-related economic disruption, monsoon will be normal, withdrawal of global liquidity by major central banks will be broadly orderly, oil prices will be in the range of US$70-$75/bbl, and global supply chain disruptions will steadily ease over the course of the year,” said the survey.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2021-22 in Parliament Monday ahead of the Union Budget 2022-23, which she will present Tuesday.
According to the annual document, which gives projections for the forthcoming fiscal and presents a review of the financial year gone by, the supply-side reforms undertaken by the government over the last two years include deregulation of numerous sectors, simplification of processes, removal of legacy issues like ‘retrospective tax’, privatisation, production-linked incentives and so on.
While the projected GDP growth for FY23 will make India the fastest growing economy in the world even next year, it is still below the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s projections of 9 per cent.
The GDP growth in the ongoing fiscal (2021-22) is expected at 9.2 per cent, according to the National Statistical Office (NSO), while the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has pegged it at 9.5 per cent.
At 9.2 per cent, India’s GDP growth in 2021-22 will be the fastest in at least 17 years. It had contracted by a record 7.3 per cent in 2020-21.
“Overall, macroeconomic stability indicators suggest that the Indian economy is well-placed to take on the challenges of 2022-23,” said the survey.

UK highlights life sciences’ key role in post-COVID recovery
Tumblr media
The UK government used the Queen’s Speech to set out its ambition to make the country a leader in life sciences, garnering a warm response from industry groups.
The speech – an opportunity for Boris Johnson’s government to set out its plans for the year ahead after consolidating its position in last week’s local elections – focused on delivering a national recovery from the pandemic.
The UK economy shrank by 1.5% in the first three months of 2021, but gathered momentum in March as lockdown restrictions began to relax, although the economy is still 8.7% down on pre-pandemic levels.
Top of the list of course was the continuation of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, supported by extra funding for the NHS, which will be the key to opening up the economy. And with biopharma thrust into the spotlight by COVID-19, there was unsurprisingly plenty in the new Parliamentary session for the industry to chew over.
Among 30 new bills planned, the much-anticipated Health and Care Bill promises to “empower the NHS to innovate and embrace technology” with patients set to receive “more tailored and preventative care, closer to home”.
A whitepaper looking ahead to the new bill released in February promises a ‘new-look’ NHS with less bureaucracy – particularly around procurement and data sharing – as well as big changes in funding flows, decision making and working practices.
The BioIndustry Association (BIA) said a key element is that the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care will be given much broader powers to intervene in the running of the NHS, opening the way for “greater political discussion and intervention in areas which for the last eight years have been solely in the gift of NHS England”.
That could include issues of close and direct concern to the biopharma sector, including medicines pricing and commercial agreements, according to the industry group.
The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) said the new NHS legislation “will provide a once-in-a-decade opportunity to embed research at the heart of the NHS,” although it warned that investment in research and skills will be needed to support this vision.
The government also reiterated its to the Advanced Research and Innovation Agency (ARIA), which will fund high-risk, high-reward research, and pledged the “fastest ever increase in public funding for research”.
It also proposed legislation to support a “lifetime skills guarantee”, based on flexible access to high quality education and training throughout people’s lives via a new student finance system.

The BIA also pointed to an opportunity to free up subsidies for life sciences companies now that the UK has exited the EU and is no longer bound by EU State Aid rules, which its says have “prevented or hindered biotech companies’ access to grant funding”.
“The legislation announced in the Queen’s Speech will soon answer if this opportunity will be seized by the Government,” said the BIA.
MPs will now debate the speech over the next few days, and the legislation itself will be published in the coming months.
COVID-19 vaccine patent warning
The ABPI has also warned that waiving intellectual property (IP) protection for COVID-19 vaccines – as supported by the Biden administration in the US – is “not the solution” to broadening access to the shots.
“Companies have been working with international partners for months to scale up the supply of vaccines, voluntarily licensing and transferring technology where it safe to do so,” said ABPI chief executive Dr Richard Torbett.
“The real challenges are a lack of advanced manufacturing skills and critical raw materials,” he added. “Globally we must now focus on sharing excess doses of vaccines, maintaining the free movement of raw materials and properly funding COVAX – all of which the UK government has committed to doing.”
Busting patents could backfire by hindering vaccine scale-up and reducing the incentive to invest in vaccines and medicines  “including for future pandemics,” said Torbett.

Dutch vote in election dominated by COVID-19
Three days of voting began in the Netherlands on Monday in a parliamentary election seen as a referendum on the Dutch government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte, one of Europe’s longest-serving leaders, is widely expected to gain enough support to secure a fourth term.
Four polls released this week showed Rutte’s conservative VVD taking 21-26% of the vote, compared with 11-16% for its closest rival, Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam Freedom Party, which leads the parliamentary opposition.
With a ban on public gatherings, the election campaign focused on a series of televised debates in which Rutte maintained his image as a steady hand during a time of crisis.
But coronavirus infections in the Netherlands are rising at the fastest pace in months, and the National Institute for Health (RIVM) has advised against any swift easing out of lockdown, saying that hospitals could still be overwhelmed in a third wave of the pandemic driven by more contagious variants.
On Sunday, police broke up a demonstration by thousands of people in The Hague to protest against the lockdown and curfew, the imposition of which prompted several days of riots in January.
Roughly 13 million voters are eligible to pick from dozens of parties contesting spots in the 150-seat parliament. Voting booths open at 0630 GMT and the first exit poll is expected when they close at 2000 GMT on Wednesday.
Major parties including Labour, the Green-Left and the pro-education Democrats-66 are vying with the centre-right Christian Democrats for third place. Two or three of these will likely join a new VVD-led coalition.
With a ban on gatherings of more than two people, restaurants and bars shut and the first night-time curfew since World War Two, voting has been spread over three days to help ensure social distancing at polling stations.
An exception on the 9 p.m. curfew will be made for people out casting their ballots.
People who are in groups considered more vulnerable to COVID-19 are encouraged to vote on Monday and Tuesday. Voters older than 70 were also able to vote earlier this month by mail.
Rutte, 54, has been Dutch prime minister since 2010.
Although the Netherlands slipped up in its response to COVID-19, being the last country in the European Union to start vaccinating and flip-flopping over face masks, hospitals never ran out of beds through two COVID-19 infection peaks.

As virus cuts class time, teachers have to leave out lessons (AP) English teachers are deciding which books to skip. History teachers are condensing units. Science teachers are often doing without experiments entirely. With instruction time reduced as much as half by the coronavirus pandemic, many of the nation’s middle school and high school teachers have given up on covering all the material normally included in their classes and instead are cutting lessons. Certain topics must be taught because they will appear on exit exams or Advanced Placement tests. But teachers are largely on their own to make difficult choices—what to prioritize and what to sacrifice to the pandemic. School day schedules have been compressed to deal with the challenges of social distancing and remote learning. The pace of instruction has also been slowed by the need to cover subjects that were skipped following the school shutdowns last spring and by students’ virus-related distractions and the difficulty in addressing both online and in-person audiences.
Winter storm wallops Mid-Atlantic, Northeast with more than two feet of snow (Washington Post) A historic winter storm continues to affect the Mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast with heavy snow, strong winds and coastal flooding. The storm brought travel to a standstill in the New York City area on Monday. In northern New Jersey, parts of New York State, eastern Pennsylvania, and much of southern New England, snow fell Monday at rates of up to three inches per hour, quickly overwhelming crews trying to clear roadways. At least 17.2 inches of snow fell in New York City’s Central Park, with the possibility of an inch or two of additional snowfall on Tuesday. This put this storm just shy of the city’s top 10 list of all-time heaviest snowstorms. Montague, N.J. picked up more than twice that, with 33.2 inches. Newton, N.J., was not far behind, at 32 inches. Some of the heaviest snow will fall Tuesday in northern New England, including Maine, where one to two feet is forecast.
The decline of coastal superstar cities (The Atlantic) Beyond anecdotal accounts of bankers fleeing Manhattan and tech workers saying sayonara to the Bay Area, we have loads of private data to back up the story that superstar cities are in trouble. According to U-Haul’s annual review, California lost more people to out-migration than any other state in 2020, and the five largest states in the Northeast—New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Maryland—joined California in the top 10 losers. Rents have fallen fastest in “pricey coastal cities,” including San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City, according to Apartment List. These migration trends could spell long-term trouble for cities such as San Francisco and New York, where municipal services rely on property taxes, sales taxes, and urban-transit revenue. Absent federal intervention, “the financial situation that nearly every transit agency in America is in will certainly lead to significant service cuts, which inevitably lead to terrible spirals,” Sarah Feinberg, the interim president of the New York City Transit Authority, told me. “Service reductions are bad for commuters, devastating for essential workers, and detrimental to the economy.” If people leave New York—and newcomers don’t immediately take their place—that will reduce the city’s subway and bus revenue, which will lead to service cuts; that will make New York a harder place to live, so more people will leave the city; transit revenue will be reduced further, and on we go.
Oregon decriminalizes some drug use (Los Angeles Times) Police in Oregon can no longer arrest someone for possession of small amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, LSD, oxycodone and other drugs as a ballot measure that decriminalized them took effect on Monday. Instead, those found in possession would face a $100 fine or a health assessment that could lead to addiction counseling. Backers of the ballot measure, which Oregon voters passed by a wide margin in November, hailed it as a revolutionary move for the United States.
Biden tries to show US as democracy beacon post-Capitol riot (AP) Less than two weeks in office, President Joe Biden is facing two critical tests of whether the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol has damaged America’s standing as a beacon for democracy. Protests in Russia and a military coup in Myanmar come as American credibility on the world stage has plummeted after last month’s storming of the Capitol. That adds to the weight on Biden as he seeks to fulfill a campaign pledge to dramatically reposition the U.S. as a global leader following four years of a Trump foreign policy driven by an “America First” mantra. Biden’s top diplomat, Antony Blinken, acknowledged the difficulty. “I think there’s no doubt that the attack on our own democracy on Jan. 6 creates an even greater challenge for us to be carrying the banner of democracy and freedom and human rights around the world because, for sure, people in other countries are saying to us, ‘Well, why don’t you look at yourselves first?’” the secretary of state said in an interview with NBC News.
Many Peruvians ignore new virus lockdown orders (AP) Peru began what was supposed to be a severe lockdown Sunday to combat surging COVID-19, but the order was widely ignored in the nation’s capital. President Francisco Sagasti went on television urging Peruvians “to make an extra effort to contain the growing wave of infections and deaths.” His government told people in the capital and nine other regions to limit trips outside the home to 60 minutes and it closed churches, gymnasiums, museums, libraries and other institutions. But marketplaces were crowded. Even some bus drivers ignored mandatory face mask rules. Seventy percent of Peruvians have no income if they stay home. The government says it will give $165 each to 4 million families—but only after the two-week quarantine. Hundreds of people crowded bus stations in Lima to head for less-restricted rural regions before terminals close later this week. Flights from Brazil and Europe have been cancelled.
Moscow court orders Kremlin foe Navalny to prison (AP) A Moscow court on Tuesday ordered Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to more than 2 1/2 years in prison on charges that he violated the terms of his probation while he was recuperating in Germany from nerve-agent poisoning. Navalny, who is the most prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin, had earlier denounced the proceedings as a vain attempt by the Kremlin to scare millions of Russians into submission. The prison sentence stems from a 2014 embezzlement conviction that he has rejected as fabricated. The 44-year-old Navalny was arrested Jan. 17 upon returning from his five-month convalescence in Germany from the attack, which he has blamed on the Kremlin.
Not just Navalny: economic pain also behind Russian protests (Reuters) The trigger for some of the biggest protests to sweep Russia in years was the arrest of opposition politician and Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who was detained on his return to the country last month after surviving poisoning by a nerve agent. The anger runs deeper, however, and some protesters, young and old, say they have also taken to the streets to vent their frustration over declining living standards and the perceived gap between a small, wealthy elite and ordinary people. Real incomes fell 3.5% last year, unemployment is at its highest since 2011 and the economy in 2020, hit hard by the pandemic, is estimated to have suffered its sharpest contraction in 11 years. Disenchantment over inequality was targeted by Navalny in a YouTube video, released shortly after his detention and viewed more than 106 million times, which showcased a 100 billion-rouble ($1.31 billion) palace complex in southern Russia. Navalny alleged its ultimate owner was President Vladimir Putin, an allegation the Kremlin denies. Since then Putin’s former judo sparring partner has said he owned it.
Journalism crackdown rather than crackdown on Delhi police (CJR) Nine journalists in India are facing criminal charges after they reported that police shot and killed a farmer during protests in Delhi last week; officials say the farmer died in an accident, but photographic evidence and a postmortem report suggest he was, indeed, fatally shot. Yesterday, Twitter bowed to legal demands from India’s government and blocked the accounts of prominent critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Twitter later reinstated the accounts, citing free speech.
Citizens in Myanmar protest coup with noise barrage (AP) Scores of people in Myanmar’s largest city honked car horns and banged on pots and pans on Tuesday evening in the first known public resistance to the coup led a day earlier by the country’s military. What was initially planned to take place for just a few minutes extended to more than a quarter hour in several neighborhoods of Yangon. Shouts could be heard wishing detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi good health and calling for freedom. “Beating a drum in Myanmar culture is like we are kicking out the devils,” said one participant who declined to give his name for fear of reprisals.
China’s Top Diplomat Warns Biden Against Meddling in Hong Kong, Xinjiang (WSJ) China’s top diplomat warned the U.S. not to cross a “red line” as President Biden signals continuity with the previous administration on hot-button issues including Hong Kong and Xinjiang. Yang Jiechi on Tuesday Beijing time emphasized the potential for a healthy U.S.-China relationship on public health, trade and climate, echoing recent language from leader Xi Jinping. But he left limited room for negotiation on issues such as human rights, the coronavirus response and what he called U.S. interference in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet and Xinjiang. “These issues concern China’s core interests, national dignity, as well as the sensitivities of its 1.4 billion people,” Mr. Yang said in a video address to the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York. “They constitute a red line which must not be crossed.” Secretary of State Antony Blinken had in an interview that aired hours earlier on MSNBC criticized China for having broken its promises on Hong Kong’s autonomy and handling of the Covid-19 outbreak with a lack of transparency.
One Case, Total Lockdown (NYT) One case. One young security guard at a quarantine hotel who tested positive for the coronavirus and experienced minor symptoms. That was all it took for Perth, Australia’s fourth-largest city, to snap into a complete lockdown on Sunday. One case and now two million people are staying home for at least the next five days. One case and now the top state leader, Mark McGowan, who is facing an election next month, is calling on his constituents to sacrifice for each other and the nation. “This is a very serious situation,” he said on Sunday as he reported the case, the first one the state of Western Australia had found outside quarantine in almost 10 months. “Each and every one of us has to do everything we personally can to stop the spread in the community.” The speed and severity of the response may be unthinkable to people in the United States or Europe, where far larger outbreaks have often been met with half measures. But to Australians, it looked familiar. Ask Australians about the approach, and they might just shrug. They’ve gotten used to a routine of short-term pain for collective gain.
56 homes lost, more threatened in Australian wildfire (AP) An out-of-control wildfire burning northeast of the Australian west coast city of Perth has destroyed at least 56 homes and was threatening more Tuesday, with many residents across the region told it is too late to leave. The 7,000-hectare (17,000-acre) blaze, which has a 80-kilometer (50-mile) perimeter, began on Monday and raged through the night near the town of Wooroloo, with the shires of Mundaring, Chittering, Northam, and the city of Swan affected. The losses were expected to grow as teams continued their damage assessments.
Iran’s new rocket (WSJ) Iran tested a new rocket yesterday with improved technology that could be used in its missile program, its latest attempt to raise the stakes for the Biden administration ahead of potential negotiations over a new nuclear deal. The new rocket, named Zuljanah, was developed under a government-backed program to send civilian satellites into orbit 310 miles above ground, according to a spokesman for the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Space Department. The technology is easily transferable to Iran’s military missile program run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, experts say.

FULL CREAM!
Plus-Size Queen.
Tumblr media
Ouma Tema decided that finding beautiful clothes would stop being a cause of frustration for her simply because she was plus-size. This tenacious mindset inspired her to start making her clothes and posting them on social media. Soon enough, friends who admired her style began asking where her clothes were from so Ouma started Plus Fab – a South African fashion brand that caters specifically to plus size women.
Although Ouma started her business from the boot of her car, today she produces her clothes in top-notch factories and they are distributed in the fastest growing retail chain in South Africa. This article is about Ouma Tema’s incredible journey and how she has been able to turn her frustration into a thriving business.
What was your life like before you started Plus Fab?
Before I started Plus Fab, I was working for the government. I had a good time there because I learnt a great deal of professionalism. That was the foundation that helped me grow as a professional. I loved my job when I was there but I got tired of it. Also, I knew that this was not where I was supposed to be so while I was there, I began working towards my exit.
Did you ever know you were ever going to start a brand like Plus Fab?
As I was struggling to get clothes for myself, I was like, I need to do something to solve the problem of there not being stylish clothes for plus size women. It wasn’t something like, “oh I really would like to have a fashion brand.” I was not inspired to start my business, I was propelled by the problem at hand. So Plus Fab is a product made out of frustration.
What do you think makes Plus Fab stand out as a brand?
I always say that anybody can make a dress, anybody can do a jumpsuit but not everyone can instil confidence in people. We want women to go out in the world and be badasses. No black queen should lose her energy because she has nothing nice to wear. We do not want people to miss their graduation ceremony. We do not want clothes to be a barrier to that amazing life that you want to have.
So we stay true to our promise. We do not sell something just because of the size. We also sell you the fashion, the fabulosity, the amazingness and the comfort. You can wear our dresses 10 years to come and you will still be popping.
How were you able to keep Plus Fab running during the lockdown?
What was nice about this whole thing is that people could buy online. At Plus Fab, we are proud of the fact that we produce all our clothes so as soon as facial masks could be worn in public, we were ready and pumped to produce scarf masks. It was challenging but making those scarf masks helped us push through.
How did you communicate with your customers during the lockdown?
We kept on communicating with our customers on social media letting them know that the frustration was mutual. Some customers lost their jobs but still came to buy their last dresses from us. They were like, “I do not know when I will get my next job but this is the last item I am buying from you guys for now.”
How important do you think local communities are for small businesses?
They are incredibly important. I always say buy local. It is the utmost act of patriotism because you are affirming that jobs must be created, sustained and there must be no poverty in your country and your community. In Africa, the biggest enemy is poverty so it is incredibly important for us to support our local communities.
where you shop matters
You make prom dresses available for young plus-size girls. Can you speak about that?
I did not go to prom because I did not have a dress to wear. So I started this because I did not want young plus-sized girls to miss out to prom simply because they could not find the right dress to wear. I do not want dresses to be a haggle simply because of their size.
What is your big vision for Plus Fab?
Plus Fab is a fabulous movement. We cannot wait to start trading across Africa and then the world. I want Plus Fab to be a household name. I want it to be known from Cape Town to Cairo, Morocco to Madagascar, New York, Ghana, Nigeria, Lesotho and all around the world. So global domination is the idea.
What advice would you give to people who want to start sustainable businesses?
What problem are you solving and at what price are you solving it? I think the most important question you have to ask an entrepreneur is what problem are you solving? If you know, you will do the right business. Look at your community and see what they need and how you can provide value. Ultimately, entrepreneurs are problem solvers. If you are honest about that, the money will come.
Know your customers: Some of our customers who love and support us got salary cuts and as much as they would love to buy from us, we understood that we were not a priority at the moment. We kept communicating with them and that’s why I can sit here and tell you today that we know where our customers are at. Some say, “I want to buy a dress but we are on lockdown. We can’t be seen in public, we can’t go to parties, We can’t go to weddings, so where am I going?”

NDRV3 Boys With An S/O That Has Anxiety Problems And Someone Intentionally Triggers A Panic Attack
First imagine I shall post here! This request was honestly a little more difficult to finish up than expected beforehand... I hope this meets your standards! ;^;   ~ Mod Angie Shuichi Saihara:   - He had more or less already figured out you had anxiety problems before you told him.   - The first panic attack you had around him, however, took him by surprise.   - Since then he's always had an eye on you to make sure he knew when you were going to have a panic attack.   - One day the class you both attended was going out on a field trip to the aquarium as an 'end of the year party'.   - You hated bus rides: you always thought something bad would happen during any bus ride.   - Saihara's first intention was to calm you down, reassuring you before you reached the bus.   - However, another student's intention was much different.   - That student (who had been told already to shut it) stared whispering things to you.   - "This bus is going to crash, and take your life with it."   - You were instantly convinced the bus was going to get into an accident.   - The hyperventilating began from there.   - You could barely move; you were almost frozen in place.   - Everything started getting dizzy.   - "S/O..? Are you ok?"   - Saihara'a voice just barely filled your ears.   - Your response was to cling onto his shoulders, staggering in your walk.   - He immediately did his best to calm you down when you got to your seat in the bus.   - When you had calmed down, he offered that you could sleep against him for the ride there, which you immediately agreed to.   - The rest of the bus ride is spent rather quietly, you having fallen asleep on his lap.
Kokichi Ouma:   - Of course his teasing ended up triggering your first panic attack around him.   - At first he thought you were joking around with him.   - That was until you nearly passed out during the panic attack due to hyperventilating too much.   - One day, you and Ouma had happened to be invited over to a party of sorts.   - Something you wish you had known beforehand was that there was going to be a scary story session.   - You confronted Ouma about this the moment you were told about it.   - "Don't be scared, S/O, you'll be completely fine! A few scary stories won't kill you, right?"   - Ohboywashedeadwrong-   - Ouma being the tease he is, he would probably take your 'I'm easily scared' complaint as nothing more but a joke - even when he was aware of your anxiety problems.   - And the person who was starting the session off just happened to be that one jerk that always tried giving you panic attacks at school.   - That student had a grin on his face the moment you had walked into this party.   - He's targeting you now dear god get away-   - The moment he hits you with the first supposed jumpscare you let out a terrified shriek.   - This catches everyone's attention - they're all staring at you.   - Which only made the situation worse.   - Now Ouma's looking at you with an extreme amount of concern, instead of laughing like you had expected.   - He takes you away from the others and outside to get some fresh air.   - Rubbing circles on your back, holding you closely to him, pressing small kisses to your forehead and cheeks...   - It didn't take long before you came back to your senses, which you thank him for one too many times after.   - You two leave the party early and have a cuddle session back home.   - The next day at school you catch a glimpse of the student from yesterday acting all defensive and cowardly.   - Your instant guess was that Ouma had given him a warning, and it was not a light one.
Rantarou Amami:   - You were the kind of person that always worried about school grades and how your parents would react to them.   - Amami did his best to help you with studies for tests and finishing homework on time.   - Sometimes, however, you'd panic about little things like 'what if the answer's not good enough' or 'what if I fail the next test'.   - Which ended up leading to a few unwanted panic attacks.   - The day you were supposed to receive one of your major tests (which just happened to be at the end of the day), there was one student that would tend to whisper a simple 'you failed' to you whenever you passed each other in the halls.   - You did your best to ignore those remarks: Amami had helped you study for this test, there was no way his help would be for nothing!   - You were convinced otherwise when lunchtime rolled around.   - The student from earlier caught onto you again.   - "This /is/ a major test, you realize? If you fail this one, Amami will be extremely disappointed that all his hard work in teaching you went to waste."   - That made you extremely nervous: was he right? Was he wrong? Would Amami really be that disappointed?   - You were on the verge of having a panic attack when you join Amami at the table.   - "Are you ok, S/O? You're shaking a little."   - You started mumbling out random gibberish.   - All Amami could catch on to was 'I failed the test'.   - He pulls you into a gentle embrace and starts rocking you slowly from side to side, which calmed you down before anything got serious.   - He then decides to ramble on a bit about how much you've improved on your work - he's very proud of what you've done over the months.   - Your wide smile when you see a full 100% on your test later on in the afternoon is what keeps him happy for the rest of the day.
Kiibo:   - By the time he realized you had anxiety problems, it already got bad enough that you had acquired agoraphobia with your anxiety problems.   - "So you happen to have panic attacks sometimes? And you don't want to get one in public? If that's the case, I will do what I can to the highest of my capabilities to make sure nothing happens to you! Public or not!"   - He sounds rather confident when he claims this.   - He always had an eye on you in class to make sure you weren't about to have any panic attacks in public.   - One day he noticed that you were trembling a little in your seat.   - The teacher had gone out to collect extra papers from the office. Just great.   - You were slowly staring to get a panic attack out of the blue.   - Some jerk in class also caught onto this.   - "Hey, everyone, look over here! The poor girl's/guy's having a panic attack!"   - That only made things worse.   - Kiibo was immediately by your side, but you were ignoring him.   - Everyone knew you were having a panic attack in the middle of class. Your breath caught in your throat. Nauseousness was quick to follow up.   - You feel a tugging on your arm.   - Kiibo had pulled you out into the halls, immediately wrapping his arms around you when the two of you were alone.   - You started crying against his shoulder.   - Were you going to get teased for having a panic attack in class?   - The teacher comes back to see you two outside.   - After she finds out what happened, the student that called you out is pulled out of class.   - He doesn't bother you anymore after that.
Kaito Momota:   - He was never the best helped when you had a panic attack.   - The first one you had around him left him panicking for the whole time; he was completely lost on what to do.   - And was somehow still partially clueless even after reading up on anxiety problems and panic attacks on the internet.   - The most he could do that he found worked the best was pull you into his lap and hold you there for a few minutes until the episode passed.   - One day, your school just happened to be experiencing a lockdown; much worse, it wasn't anywhere near a drill.   - The matter was already worrying enough on its own: students around you in your class seemed to be panicking.   - Kaito was already by your side, however his gaze was darting everywhere in a state of panic.   - Some other student happened to catch you while Kaito was distracted.   - That student started whispering things to you: mainly along the lines of 'whoever's out there is hunting you down and planning to kill you'.   - Kaito manages to pick up on the words (despite his unnoticeable panicked state) and shoots a glare towards the student whispering to you, pulling you towards his chest.   - You're panicking even more now: trembling, struggling to take controlled breaths...   - But being in the arms of your boyfriend helps to calm you down until the lockdown passes.   - You give him a kiss on the cheek to say thank you.   - You come to school the next day to see the student that had been whispering to you yesterday with a cast on their arm, and quite the amount of injuries.   - You also find out that Kaito got suspended for a couple days after beating the shit out of them.   - When will he learn that violence isn't always the answer..?
Korekiyo Shinguji:   - Examining every single one of your panic attack causes and triggers is a must of his: every little bit of information he could get his hands on about panic attacks was stored in his mind.   - At the same time he's there to calm you down, experimenting with different ways to do so until he found a method that worked the fastest.   - Maybe in an odd or unsettling way, knowing the kind of person that he is.   - But it worked, either way.   - You weren't very worried about panic attacks in public; you knew how to calm yourself down because of experience and had Korekiyo by your side if things got out of hand.   - Sometime during lunch you had excused yourself to go to the bathroom.   - On the way there you started to suspect something... As if you were being followed...   - Your trip to the bathroom was much quicker than intended.   - When exiting, you were met by a sudden, loud "Boo!" from multiple people, which so happened to be the group of students that tend to go around and scare the shit out of other students.   - And their method quickly took a toll on you.   - You resorted to a loud scream, dashing off before they could do anything else.   - Which left the group laughing as you sprinted off.   - The moment you ran back into the cafeteria, you start searching for Korekiyo.   - When you find him you're practically barreling yourself into his arms.   - He's quick to calm you down and holds you in his arms until you've calmed down.   - You explain to him what happened.   - He is not pleased.   - You come to school the next day to see the same group of students being confronted by Korekiyo - and they look as if they're about to wet themselves.   - A small laugh is your only response as they run away from your boyfriend.
Gonta Gokuhara:   - He's completely stumped on what to do when you have your first panic attack.   - Though after a while he's learned to adapt to them, and has picked up on a few tricks to help you.   - All of those methods being looking at different bugs, of course.   - And it surprisingly helped.   - He's a good boy; he makes sure to give you extra care even after the panic attack passes just to show how much he cares.   - Recently you've been paired up with someone for a project of sorts.   - However, the person you were paired up with tends to put the majority of the work on you, and even downrates you when you do the work.   - It's just been stressful for the two weeks you were given to work on it.   - You broke under the stress all of a sudden, which causes Gonta to get very worried.   - Once again resorting to using his 'let's look at some bugs' method until you calm down completely, and even after you did he continued looking after you until you're willing to speak.   - When he asks what's wrong, you reply that there's a group project you've been stressing over because your partner does absolutely nothing to help you and downrates your efforts on making the project seem professional.   - The last few days Gonta helps you with your work when you need it (because that's what a gentleman would do), which decreased your stress level by a whole lot.   - You're proud of the result of your project.   - You resort to explaining to your teacher about how your work partner treated you during the project.   - They get a fail on the project as a punishment, while you get an A+.
Ryoma Hoshi:   - He somehow became your anxiety reliever as a 'living teddy bear'.   - Whenever you had a panic attack, you'd hug him gently to your chest until it passed.   - He got annoyed the first time you did it, but has learned to deal with being treated like a stuffed animal.   - Public situations were different.   - Ryoma would never let you hold him like a teddy bear in public.   - Instead, he tends to gently stroke your head to calm you down.   - Not the most effective way, but it worked nonetheless.   - Over the weeks someone has been... Making you really anxious in school.   - Flashing you threatening glares and gestures to intimidate you.   - And you just happened to be easily intimidated.   - There was so much fear building up that it caused you to panic whenever that student even entered the same room you were in.   - Hoshi got extremely worried when you came up to him, shaking and stammering phrases he couldn't make out.   - Not much came out of your mouth before he told you to stop talking, and calmed you down.   - "Who is intimidating you?"   - The question came out slowly enough to make you nervous, but you gave him a nod anyways.   - He's constantly at your side now, keeping you away from the student mentioned earlier.   - It's not the best thing he does, but the student eventually stays away, so it's a win in the end.

2Cs can trigger the animal spirits in the economy
Tumblr media
Covid-19 lockdown has locked down the Indian economy, which is set to face one of the worst ever growth slumps in the recent decades. Of course, this economic slump induced by Covid-19 is a global phenomenon and we may still end up being the best among the worst performing economies around the World. After series of macro economic reforms like GST and various other measures, Indian economy was looking to consolidate on the back of those reforms; and this virus came as a bolt from the blue. The Covid-19 strike only reaffirms the need for more, long lasting reforms for the economy to get back to 8% growth levels and look beyond that too.
That said, there are two critical components for the economy to lift from the current slump and only those factors can kick start the economy. I would call them as 2Cs impact on the economy to measure the amount of recovery in the key macro indicators.
Consumption: The primary growth driver in the coming months would be the return of consumption story, which is hampered by the loss of jobs, cut in salaries and lesser discretionary spending by the consumers. But the real kick start for the economy would be the return of the consumers to the pre-Covid levels. In the current scenario this looks the goal is a far fetched one, but eventually consumers will come back to spending mode. The government needs to ensure the consumption returns with some demand and supply side measures to boost the consumption oriented economy.
It is also highly imaginative to think consumers will never go back to consumption mode, given the fact that we have the youngest population count in the World compared to even countries like China. They would eventually come back to the older ways provided strong measures are taken to mitigate the Covid-19 disruptions. Businesses do understand the current circumstances to be highly challenging to get back the consumers, but measures from their side would also boost the return of consumption growth in the economy.
Credit: Government, as a post Covid-19 measure has unleashed the credit tool in the economy to kick start the credit cycle; and this could be the most effective weapon for the trade and industry to kick start the economic cycle. India, though hamstrung by Covid-19 disruption, still has the best bet on the economic recovery. Remember, post Covid-19 China may end up a big loser in attracting foreign capital and industries would like to shift gears and head towards India. Added to that, the global anger against China is a huge detrimental factor for its further prospects on the foreign capital flows. Even the existing industries run by foreign companies in China would press the exit button in the coming months, given the poor handling of Covid-19 by China and its belligerent posturing in the recent times.
India would be a natural destination provided if we have the right platform to attract the fleeing foreign capital into Indian trade and industry. With many desi companies outsourcing industrial materials from China, the credit boost could help the companies build domestic capacities to manufacture the components locally rather than relying on Chinese imports. Moreover, the credit boost should reach the last mile in this country's economy with the return of the vibrant street stall economy.
Overall, the recovery of Indian economy remains a huge challenge even as the lockdown is still in place in many parts of the country, that too in some important industrial states like Maharashtra and Tamilnadu. It's also a fact that a vaccination could be the only solution to end this mess, but nevertheless the governmental efforts would go on in getting the economy back on track. For the recovery to get fast tracked, the emergence of 2C factor will be crucial for the pace of the economic recovery. The “Indian” story remains intact despite the disruptions caused by Covid-19, we could emerge as the fastest growing economy in the coming years if the 2C factor emerges stronger than never before!

Media captionProsecutor details charges of murder and manslaughter
Protesters have clashed with police in cities across the US over the killing of an unarmed African-American man at the hands of officers in Minneapolis.
Hundreds of people rallied outside the White House, which was briefly put under lockdown on Friday, demanding justice over the death of George Floyd.
Minnesota, New York, Atlanta and other regions have seen violent unrest.
A former Minneapolis police officer has been arrested and charged with murder over Mr Floyd’s death in custody.
Derek Chauvin, who is white, was shown in footage kneeling on 46-year-old Mr Floyd’s neck on Monday. He and three other officers have since been sacked.
Mr Chauvin, 44, is due to appear in court in Minneapolis for the first time on Monday.

President Donald Trump has described the incident as “a terrible, terrible thing” and said he had spoken with Mr Floyd’s family, whom he described as “terrific people”.
What’s the latest on the protests?
Minnesota remains the most volatile region, with curfews ordered for the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul from 20:00 to 06:00 on Friday and Saturday evening.
Protesters defied the curfew on Friday. Fires, many from burning cars, were visible in a number of areas with fire officials unable to reach some sites.
Television pictures also showed looting in Minneapolis, with police officers thin on the ground.

Only at about midnight (05:00 GMT) did police and National Guard troops move in in any numbers, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The Pentagon has put the military on alert for possible deployment in Minneapolis.
On Friday evening, crowds gathered near the White House in Washington waving photographs of Mr Floyd and chanting “I can’t breathe” – invoking his last words and those of Eric Garner, a black man who died after being held in a police chokehold in New York in 2014.
The White House was then temporarily placed on lockdown, with the US Secret Service closing entrances and exits.
In Atlanta, a state of emergency was declared for some areas to protect people and property. Buildings were vandalised and a police vehicle was set alight as protesters gathered near the offices of news broadcaster CNN.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued a passionate plea, saying: “This is not a protest. This is not in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. You are disgracing our city. You are disgracing the life of George Floyd.”

In New York’s Brooklyn district, protesters clashed with police, throwing projectiles, starting fires and destroying police vehicles. A number of officers were injured and many arrests made.
Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted: “We don’t ever want to see another night like this.”

Image caption Protesters use milk to treat the sting of tear gas in New York City
In Dallas, officers launched tear gas canisters after they were pelted with stones.
Protesters blocked roads in Los Angeles and also in Oakland, where windows were smashed and “Kill Cops” graffiti sprayed.
What are the legal moves so far?
Mr Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter over his role in Mr Floyd’s death.
Mr Floyd’s family and their lawyer, Benjamin Crump, said that this was “welcome but overdue”.
The family said they wanted a more serious, first-degree murder charge as well as the arrest of the three other officers involved.
Hennepin County Prosecutor Mike Freeman said he “anticipates charges” for the other officers but would not offer more details.
Mr Freeman said his office “charged this case as quickly as evidence has been presented to us”.
“This is by far the fastest that we’ve ever charged a police officer,” he noted.
According to the criminal complaint, Mr Chauvin acted with “a depraved mind, without regard for human life”.
How did George Floyd die?
The full report by the county medical examiner has not been released, but the complaint states that the post-mortem examination did not find evidence of “traumatic asphyxia or strangulation”.
The medical examiner noted Mr Floyd had underlying heart conditions and the combination of these, “potential intoxicants in his system” and being restrained by the officers “likely contributed to his death”.

Image caption Demonstrations and protests have continued since Mr Floyd’s death in police custody on Monday
The report says Mr Chauvin had his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds – almost three minutes of which was after Mr Floyd became non-responsive.
Nearly two minutes before he removed his knee the other officers checked Mr Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and were unable to find one. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in an ambulance and pronounced dead around an hour later.
The Minnesota police handbook states that officers trained on how to compress a detainee’s neck without applying direct pressure to the airway can use a knee under its use-of-force policy. This is regarded as a non-deadly-force option.
What has the president said?
At the White House on Friday, Mr Trump said he had asked the justice department to expedite an investigation it announced on Friday into whether any civil rights laws were violated in Mr Floyd’s death.
The president also said “looters should not be allowed to drown out the voices of so many peaceful protesters”.

Image caption People gather outside the White House chanting “I can’t breathe” and “Stop killing us”
Earlier, he described the rioters as “thugs” who were dishonouring Mr Floyd’s memory.
Social media network Twitter accused Mr Trump of glorifying violence in a post that said: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
What happened in the arrest?
Officers suspected Mr Floyd had used a counterfeit $20 note and were attempting to put him in a police vehicle when he dropped to the ground, telling them he was claustrophobic.
According to police, he physically resisted officers and was handcuffed.

Media captionMinnesota governor on George Floyd death: ‘Thank God a young person had a camera to video it’
Video of the incident does not show how the confrontation started, but a white officer can be seen with his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck, pinning him down.
Mr Floyd can be heard saying “please, I can’t breathe” and “don’t kill me”.
A former local nightclub owner has said Mr Chauvin and Mr Floyd both worked as bouncers at her venue in south Minneapolis up until last year, though it is unclear if they knew one another.

Exclusive: This Calendar Turned $10,000 Into Over $1.5 Million
Exclusive: This Calendar Turned $10,000 Into Over $1.5 Million:
In the past three weeks, I’ve shared details with you about Chad Shoop’s groundbreaking “Profit Stacks” strategy.
This strategy is especially useful in uncertain markets
We’ve looked at:
Part 1: What Profit Stacks are.
Part 2: How Chad’s strategy uses reliable cycles.
Part 3: And the 15 sectors in Chad’s Profit Stacks Calendar — complete with the exact dates to invest in each sector.
Now, we’ll close the series by showing you how you can use the power of Chad’s six Profit Stacks to turn a $10,000 investment into over $1.5 million. You’ll even get an exclusive peek at Chad’s Profit Stacks Calendar … where you’ll see all six stacks laid out, complete with dates.
All so you can start profiting from incredibly reliable cycles in the market…
How to Profit From Stacking Optimization
In total, Chad has found six profit stacks that you can trade in a year. Each stack contains a collection of two to three sectors that you can trade at different times, reinvesting your gains as you go.
To make sure these can deliver maximum profits, he uses something called “stacking optimization.” It’s how Chad finds the best entry and exit dates for each sector.
Because of this, Chad’s readers have seen increasing annual returns over the past three years.
In 2019, they achieved a 43.64% average return on all six stacks as one Profit Stack went up by 74.58%, while a second Profit Stack doubled.
To be fully transparent, the average gain of all of Chad’s Profit Stack trades last year was 15.02%.
But just like the “typical portfolio” example I showed you on April 18, you could have made much more than that overall if you employed Chad’s Profit Stacking strategy.
Now, of course reinvesting your gains like this increases your risk. But Chad follows more predictable seasonal cycles and employs six separate stacks to diversify and limit risk.
See, Chad only recommends investing in the best stock in each sector — the one stock that could move the fastest during these in season spikes.
Momentum: The Key to Finding the Best Stock in Each Profit Stack
I asked Chad how he finds the best stock.
He told me:
If I had to break it down to one key factor, it’s momentum.
You see, right before each sector is about to head into its historically profitable months, I look at the 50, 80 or even 160-plus stocks in the sector “basket.” My team and I analyze them to see which one has the highest level of momentum. It’s a combination of recent price moves and how much faster it’s moving compared to its competitors.
This layered strategy gives us unparalleled protection and profits.
I wanted to develop a more repeatable and lucrative way for anyone to grow their portfolio to seven figures. That’s the philosophy behind these Profit Stacks.
And I’m so glad I’ve been able to deliver on my promise since launching this elite research service over three years ago.
Chad and his team’s back test shows that in Profit Stack after Profit Stack — if you had invested in only the best stocks, the gains could’ve been off the charts.
Take a look at the potential returns of all six Profit Stacks below:
Now, obviously, you’re seeing the best possible outcome here. All trading comes with risk. In fact, all six of these Profit Stacks came with losing trades.
But by sticking to Chad’s recommendations through thick and thin, your consistent winners can beat out the losers — especially when you stack them.
Finally, as promised, I’m going to share an exclusive look at Chad’s Profit Stacks calendars with our Winning Investor Daily readers.
Exclusive Look: The Profit Stacks Calendar
Chad updates this calendar to reflect the exact dates for the 15 sectors with the highest profit potential.
His team is constantly monitoring over 4,000 of them.
The calendar gives you the exact buy and sell dates for each sector.
It also tells you which ones stack together — creating Chad’s six stacks.
This calendar by itself, if used properly, can help you stack your profits.
Here it is:
So, the first stack includes three sectors: telecommunications, gold and silver, and semiconductors.
The telecom season lasts from January 22 through July 20. So you invest in Chad’s recommended telecom stock for that time … then roll that trade into a gold and silver trade.
The gold and silver season lasts from July 20 through September 1.
Then, you take that capital and roll it into the best semiconductor stock that Chad’s system identified. You keep your money there from September 1 through January 22.
Then you do it all over again.
And that’s just one profit stack out of six.
The “Gains” column on the right reflects the average gains from each sector over the previous decade.
Now, keep in mind: Chad sends his readers recommendations for each sector’s best stock. You can trade each in as little as five a week.
Chad does all the heavy lifting for you. All you have to do is open your email, read Chad’s research, follow the trade recommendation if you choose … and watch your profits stack up.
