I have one of the Worst approaches to fanfic. Despite this, I do not plan on altering my methods much if at all

#tactical meandering #I keep reading stuff for fandoms I am Not In. because I have Never consumed the source material #this has perks! because I can focus on the writing itself instead of whether I think the characters are ''accurate'' #and it allows me to search for new stories/content based solely on how it will make me feel (thanks to the tagging systems) #however. #this also means that I can become very invested in something that I have Absolutely no outlet for #I sort of know what the characters look like. from (usually very flowery) descriptions in the stories #the characterization is also gleaned solely secondhand #I am rather invested in some of the stories I have read #but I don't have anyone I know with whom I can gush about them or other ideas I have had #because that's another thing. I have had ideas for stories I would tell if I knew the material #but part of me still doesn't want to engage with the source mat #because I know that the emotional depth is often simply not there in canon #and what if I find that the writing I so love ends up not being accurate? will I love it less. or will I resent the canon for not being so? #I've dug my grave on this hill. and yet I have not yet put down the shovel
