I keep seeing stuff about the new game but I have no idea what Pikmin is?? Help pls
So, you wanna know about Pikmin?
What are Pikmin exactly?
Well they're little guys.
Tumblr media
A bunch of dudes who come in all kinds of colors and shapes. Each one has their own unique abilities (red is resistant to fire, blue can swim, rock is literally rock, etc). In the Pikmin games, you use these little scrimbos to complete puzzles, destroy obstacles, build. bridges and beat the living shit out of hostile wildlife.
"Hostile wildlife?" You ask?
Yes! All Pikmin games take place on the mysterious planet known only as PNF-404, a world of gargantuan treasures and an atmosphere composed of deadly oxygen. This plant is inhabited by Pikmin and beasts of unfathomable proportions.
Tumblr media
Some of these creatures may be docile or unable to hurt you or your Pikmin, but rest assured most of these beasts will give chase on sight. Defeated enemies can sometimes drop treasures, and their remains can be used by the Pikmin to boost their numbers. This is done by having Pikmin carry them to their Onions.
Tumblr media
In Pikmin 4, you have a 'master onion' you can call from and store Pikmin in. You attain the ability to grow more types of Pikmin by bringing their matching onion to your master onion. In other games you may have three onions (Red, Yellow and Blue were the main Pikmin in 1 and 2).
Okay, so what's the point of all this?
In every Pikmin game, you take control of a brave adventurer from another planet! In Pikmin 1 and 2, you help the intrepid explorer Captain Olimar of the planet Hocotate in repairing his ship (Pikmin 1) and finding treasures to pay off his boss's debt (Pikmin 2). Here he is standing a respectable 3.9cm tall (1.9cm without the suite):
Tumblr media
In Pikmin 3, you help three space travelers from the planet Koppai collect fruit to save their starving planet.
Tumblr media
And in Pikmin 4, you play as...you! As the newest recruit of the Rescue Corps, you are sent to PNF-404 to rescue the other members of your team and all the other folks who thought vacationing on an alien planet was a good idea (it wasn't).
What even IS a Pikmin game?
Pikmin games are strategy adventure games! The objective of each game is similar in that you must grow and use Pikmin to help you survive the many hardships on this alien planet. Each game has their own unique spins and gimmicks, but the Pikmin themselves remain the main focus. You can control up to 100 Pikmin at a time and use your whistle to direct them. The games require you to be aware of your surroundings and manage your time and Pikmin wisely!
Time? Is there a time limit? O_o
In Pikmin 1, you need to repair your ship in 30 game days. There's also a time limit in Pikmin 3 but it's negligible. In Pikmin 2 and 4, there is no time limit to complete everything!
Okay, so where should I begin? How do I get into Pikmin?
If you're looking to get into Pikmin, piking up the latest game is a great way to do it! Pikmin 4 is both beginner friendly and also a decent challenge without being too unforgiving! It's also just a fantastic game in general if I might say so. Also, Oatchi is in it.
Tumblr media
There's more to discover in the games, such as underground caverns, massive boss fights and epic dandori battles! If you're curious you can find more information on the Pikipedia website!
Hope this wasn't too boring a read, anon. Let me know if you do decide to check the games out! Here's a picture of my favorite Pikmin type, Rock Pikmin.
Tumblr media
If you wanna know anything else about the games, just ask!

I need more roleplay partners
This is an active attempt at making people want to roleplay with me, because I just need more active ones, other than the one that I currently have (they're irreplaceable for sure!)
Now, I accept anything MxM and FxF, shipping OCs is cool, but I mainly ship things from fandoms (I am quite sure that you will recognise at least one of these, trust me). I find gore completely fine and I come for drama, as long as it doesn't come out of nowhere. I write in a weird mix between semi-lit and literate. If I keep myself short, I either don't know what to write or I am preoccupied with something else at the moment. 18+ stuff is good too, I am 20 (I am a pure bottom, but not all that I roleplay is submissive, most of them stand their ground quite well). I am a very creative person, who will most likely find a plot in anything, so if you want to add things aswell, just let me know!
These are the fandoms that I roleplay (+ if I am desperate to roleplay in it lol)
♤Dream Daddy (not really desperate, only doing it if I get to be Damien)
♡Spaloon 1-3 (yes, yes, yes, all of them queer tentacle creatures!)
♤Pokemon (every generation is fine, we can even be the Pokemon, I am a furry)
♡No Straight Roads (I had an incident, not doing it for at least the next few months)
♤The Stanley Parable (not really desperate, I've done it quite a bit)
♡Countryhumans (it's been at least three years, very desperate and I make a good Germany and Finland)
♤Undertale/Deltarune (I never really mind it, even the AUs are cool)
♡Team Fortress 2 (always up for it, if I get to be either Medics)
♤Super Mario/Luigi's Mansion 2-3 (I want to do it from time to time)
♡Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 3-4 (the most desperate, poor Kakyoin got done dirty!)
♤Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss (eh, could be worse, I'm obsessed with Staticmoth (don't expect me to be Val though))
♡Detroit Become Human (not desperate, but I can make exceptions)
♤Yokai Watch (I just think this one to be fun)
♡Pikmin 1-4 (I'd be willing to try it)
♤Super Smash Bros (I'd be Mii Swordfighter because he's my main)
♡Steven Universe (I'd be up to do it, respectfully for the lesbian space rocks)
♤My Little Pony (Sure, why not!)
♡Sonic (I don't know much, but I am still willing to do it)
♤Villainous (I make a good Flug and Slug, not desperate though)
♡Good Omens (I have not seen the second season yet, but still!)
♤Hetalia (I am not really knowledgeable, but I can roleplay as Ludwig)
♡Sanders Sides (there are possibilities)
♤Fnaf (I really like being Bonnie of any kind ^^)
♡Cookie Run Kingdom (there's good potential in it!)
♤Wander Over Yander (I literally only want to do deathglare and to be Peepers!)
♡Legends Of Avantris - specifically Once Upon A Witchlight or Stardust Rhapsody (honestly, I would absolutely love to!)
If you are interested in roleplaying with me now, you can comment or dm me. If you prefer roleplaying with me on Discord, I can send you my Discord in dms.

list of headcanons about the pikmin 3 captains :3
alph:
• autistic with a special interest in engineering
• struggles to detect sarcasm a lot and takes everything quite literally
• since landing on pnf-404 and finding the pikmin, he copies the noises they make as a vocal stim. particularly attached to rock pikmin because of the sounds they make
• has a low pain tolerance (just like me fr fr)
• likes collecting things. his room at home is full of stuff to do with his special interests. also why he likes the piklopedia.
• since he left koppai his grandfather has started making little trinkets and selling them. he's saving all the money that he makes so that the whole family can have a big celebration when he comes home
• when brittany found the yellow pikmin and he learned that they were electricity conductors he got really excited and started swimming as soon as he thought he was out of view. (he wasn't, but brittany doesn't want to embarrass him.)
• really wants to try and use the yellow pikmin in the ship engineering but is too afraid to ask the others for permission
• always takes a pretty long time to desensitise to his environment every time he removes the spacesuit
• constantly trying to impress his teammates and thinks that they're really cool
brittany
• also autistic and has adhd (i'm projecting)
• discovered botany while doing some research for an english essay. she had to write about the themes of a story and started looking up flower meanings and then fell down a rabbit hole
• also struggles to tell when someone's being sarcastic, but instead of taking everything seriously she almost always presumed it's a joke
• lashes out at people impulsively when she's stressed and feels guilty afterwards
• has eaten several things that aren't safe for koppaite consumption. insists that it was "for science".
• really good at comforting other people… when she realises that they're upset. which tends to take a while.
• t-rex hands whenever she's standing still
• constantly trying to impress her teammates and thinks that they're really cool
charlie
• autistic. bet you didn't see that one coming
• comes across as very serious at first because of how he delivers instructions. he's not actually anywhere near as stern as he looks, but when he's giving orders he's trying to constantly think ahead and plan the next move while also being as direct and concise as he can and can't make himself sound cheerful on top of that.
• smiles with his eyes more than his mouth - unless you've gotten to know him you won't notice
• has a loud, hearty laugh. very contagious.
• sometimes he talks too loudly, especially when he's indoors. he forgets that the helmets aren't muffling his voice anymore.
• has plans to make a pond in his garden after he's able to settle down and hyperfixates on it. will ramble for hours about what it's going to have in it
• wants to rear a pet duck as well. ducks are a special interest
• speaking of which, really likes swimming. very strong swimmer. loves water. sensory seeking on most days
• whenever the koppaites have to walk across difficult terrain, charlie will pick them both up and carry them across, trying to impress them
• constantly trying to impress his teammates and thinks that they're really cool
misc:
• they all have friendly debates about which fruit tastes best
• drake is also autistic and unintentionally makes people think that they're mad at him. when he was little alph could never tell when people were annoyed at him so he was able to get closer to his grandfather

Please please please become an unskipable cutscene I love unskipable cutscenes
PIKMIN 4 SPOILERS
this is mostly just me rambling don't take the end part as a serious theory just a bit of fun
Pikmin as creatures have a simple life cycle of gathering stuff to put in their onion to create new pikmin. As seen in pikmin 4, the onion is the nest of the pikmin but not the only means a pikmin can be born. The onion is a member of the candypop family while interestingly the pikmin are members of the pikmin family
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is confirmed that the onions and the pikmin adapt to suit their environment. The water pikmin have gills on them for water, and the red pikmin have fire-resistant cellulose. Olimar theorizes that the onion uses the traits that it absorbs from creatures to upgrade the Pikmin (winged pikmin entry) -much like how in pikmin 2 you gain upgrades by bringing things back to the ship and boom! You can now walk though fire geysers and electricity.
There are also a whole bunch of parasitic pikmin, the most famous being the bulbmin which sadly are a pikmin 2 exclusive. They can not leave the caves and follow a much larger bulmin around. This is the only example of a pikmin that has a pikmin leader to my knowledge. Another similar parasitic pikmin would be the Hermikmin that Olimar writes down. These Hermikmin take control of rocks and have an internal cavity resembling a geode. Considering there is a line about seeing pikmin juices when dying, it is safe to say that pikmin corpses are a real thing and the game just censores it. This means that Olimar has seen a pikmin's insides at least once!
Tumblr media
Now safe to say, pikmin are odd, but I find whats more odd is why do red pikmin have noses? They serve no evolutionary advantage like how the yellow pikmin's ears help them be thrown farther and dig faster. So why do the red pikmin have ears? My current working theory is that is a purposely endearing characteristic that the pikmin evolved to have to make them more likable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As we know from the candypop buds description, they lure creatures to throw things into it so they can be consumed and turned into a specific pikmin. Now if a candypop could do that, why couldn't an onion work a similar way? Could an onion use scent and other things to direct pikmin? Telling the pikmin to carry things to it? Pikmin have the trait to carry things back to the onion despite being from different families and not even knowing the best path to it. Perhaps when an onion takes to the air, it releases a scent around the area to map out the best possible paths to take items to it?
(I compare this to the way ants leave behind a pheromone trail to communicate with other ants. This pheromone trail will tell the others where to go to find that food and bring it back. We do know that pikmin can go back and get things once they have the order to, so perhaps once a pikmin identifies a task they will create a trail until the task is completed? For example, a captain sends five pikmin to harvest spicy berries all day and the pikmin make a trail to find their way back to the onion and back to the berries. )
So if a candypop bud could use scent to lure, and an onion could use scent to lure, why wouldn't the onion create creatures that are luring-likable for the sake of its species. As we know from pikmin 4, there is a missing link in the cycle of pikmin. Pikmin needs a captian to survive and all things leafy can not leave the planet. This is why dandori is so important to leaflings- it is literally their purpose in life. Their whole job in this cycle is to make more pikmin, kill foes, and dandori. Dandori dandori dandori. Leaflings consider the pikmin they command to be 'theirs', so we know that the only thing they care about besides dandoring is pikmin.
What I am trying to say is what if onions make pikmin to be harmless towards leader types and make them super cute to leader types for the sheer purpose of having this symbiotic relationship. As long as their numbers increase at the end of the day it doesn't matter to them the fate of their leader. An onion needs a leader to do this. And the pikmin love both of them for that. The pikmin love their captains and their onions so much that they would die for both of them. Did the onions make them to have unconditional love toward their leader? Who knows? Maybe we aren't at that stage of domestication yet, but given how bees are to humans-in a couple centuries or years I would be so interested to see how onions and pikmin adapt to so many new leaders.
Do you think domesticated pikmin would be like pigeons? Or perhaps they would be like cats. Pikmin but they are like horse???? The first game it was like herdings cats so imagines future types of pikmin that domesticated themselves like cats did. The possibilities are endless
The only way to make a pikmin game even sadder is if you were able to name them like you could in pikmin bloom. Just get a message at the bottom of the screen that pikmin #231 drowned in the water right next to Banana Slice (the pikmin). Terry the pikmin got exploded by a bomb rock. Pikmin called Hibiscus was stabbed though the chest :(

Intergalactic Floral Explorers AU: The Full Story Event 2: Part 1
- Alph wants to get on good terms with Louie after the incident. He knows a bit of the damage Lou has done to him and his crew mates and wants everyone to get along so one day he opts to travel with Louie around the Tropical Wilds, very very much to Brits dismay.
- Al attempts to make small talk with Lou! …It does not go well.
-Meanwhile Brit, Char and Oli are exploring the area. Brit is worried about Alphie being alone with Lou. Oli reassures Brit, telling her that Lou isn’t that bad as he seems. Brit doesn’t believe him, but nods anyway. Charlie adds that if anything occurs, they’ll be notified via their koppads!
- aaannndddd comedic cut to Alph and Louie getting into trouble. (i never decided whether the enemy will be either a returning one or an original one)
-it’s a mini boss fight! A and L working together as best they can to defeat the enemy, Vio (a winged pikmin) ending up sacrificing themselves by dealing the final blow
-(literally! by feeding it a bomb rock :’)
-Alph and Lou got minor injuries, but enough to alert the ship and the rest of the crew. Brit runs back to A and L, who have arrived at the landing site with the corpse and treasure(s) and starts fussing over Alph much to his annoyance. The day ends and the crew return to the ship for the night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Event 2: Part 2
-Later that evening, Brit corners Lou and begins to question him. The ship overhears and scolds Brit for her aggression. Brit and the Ship begin to fight, Charlie interjects (more calmly than Brit but still stern) wanting answers from Louie too. Louie is quiet, avoiding eye contact. Alph tries to get any sort of opinion out but Brit ignores him.
-She turns to Olimar, who was watching this whole thing go down and asks why he’s even ok with Louie still being here. Oli hesitates, which only fuels Brit’s belief that L shouldn’t be here. Long story short, B calls Louie a monster and that's when Olimar finally snaps.
-He angrily (rightfully so) scolds the crew for this behavior and tells them to go to their respective rooms for a breather. The crew, shocked by Olimar's sudden anger, comply. Brit is slowly realizing what she's done because both Alph and Louie are gone. The ship quietly alerts that Louie is in the cargo hold, and Alph is in the Koppaites room. Olimar tells Brit to rethink her actions before he goes to the cargo.
((the following two conversations happen at the same time, but for simplicity i'll explain them separately))
-Olimar finds Louie sitting near the Drakes window, coincidently (and *coughs* intentionally) by the same window the end of the first Act ended all that time ago…
-he sits next to Lou, asking if he’s ok. After a bit of silence(O expected this) begins to talk about the stars outside. He points out several constellations and begins a bit of small talk about his family. After some more quiet Lou asks what Olimar's favorite constellation is, Olimar happily replies.
-Olimar takes this as a sign to ask if Louie wants to talk about anything, like what happened earlier,(Lou shakes his head, muttering how he’s used to being yelled at) and he expresses that he would like to know more about Lou’s time with the wraith.
-Lou becomes visibly uncomfortable, with an unreadable expression. Oli sighs, thinking that maybe he has to wait another day to get closure, but Louie pulls out his Koppad.
-Olimar is surprised, but does not say a word as Lou begins to type a note. He patiently waits for sometime before Louie slowly hands him his koppad.
-We finally are able to read what happened before the crew reached the oak. Louie, after being left behind, has nowhere else to go. He is forced to hide in the oak. He is bitter after being left behind, and the Plasm uses his vulnerability to take over him while he was asleep. He claims he had no control over his actions, it was all the wraiths doing, using him to capture Olimar again. Lou also writes how he would sometimes hear the plasm…speak to him.
-Well…obviously it's half the truth. Olimar knows its half the truth, for this still leaves so many more questions unanswered. Saving those questions for another day, he expresses his gratitude for Louie being able to confess, and Oli tells him he doesn’t blame Lou one bit for what occured with the Plasm. He then asks if Lou would like to type anything else. Lou takes back his koppad and shakes his head no.
-Oli notes that Louie looks more relaxed now, and offers to cook something to eat before turning in for the night. Lou quietly jokes about olimar offering to cook, for last time he nearly set the Hocotate ship on fire. Olimar for a moment is stunned, before bursting out laughing.
-the two can be heard heading to the kitchen as we cut to Charlie and The ship, who both heard them exit the room. (C and the ship were at the head of the Drake this whole time, leaving the others to sort out their feelings.)
-The ship semi jokes to Charlie if he has anything to vent about. Charlie pauses for a moment, glancing at his rubber duck floating around the Drake, before smiling and says something like, “The great hero Captain Charlie has no secrets to share!”. The ship looks at him funny before saying “WELL I CERTAINLY DO, FOR ONE-“
-Rusty continues rambling as Charlie walks to the Kop’s room
- Alph is laying on his sleeping bag when Brit finds him. Sitting on her own sleeping bag, an awkward silence follows before Brit apologizes to Alph. -She explains that, ever since he nearly died, she never forgave Lou for working alongside the Wraith. And how she has also never forgiven herself for not being able to save Alph in time. Brit never wanted A to get hurt ever again, so she became overprotective, which began to strain their friendship.
-Alph, now with more understanding, forgives her but expresses that it wasn’t her nor Louie's fault. And that the dangers on the planet are sometimes uncontrollable. Bad things can happen, and sometimes they are not in your control and that's ok.
-They hug, Brit promising to be nicer to Lou and stop being so overprotective of A. Alph is content, but out of the corner of his eye, he catches a glimpse of D looming in the distance. His stomach begins to hurt, which causes Brit to worry. Alph dismisses the pain since it's kind of normal for him, and Brit jokingly scolds herself for already going against her promise.
-They both laugh and prepare to get some sleep as Charlie walks in, noting that they both seem to have sorted things out.
Fragile Things Chapter 11: Flashback Two
While writing up the day's report and describing his relationship with the pikmin to Louie, Olimar recalls his encounter with the smokey progg.
Quick trigger warning, this chapter features a failed suicide attempt.
Link to the Ao3 version of this chapter.
The beast brushed past a large group of his pikmin, slowly making its way toward him. Its pink eyes stared him down, green smoke curdling around it as a red and yellow haze slowly rose above it.
I failed them. He realized. They wanted to run for the onion but I thought I could take it… and I couldn't.
The beast tilted its head at Olimar, as if studying him. It circled around him, grass dying at every step it took. It never got closer to him though. It just paced and stared, occasionally making some strange clicking sound. It was a horrifying thing, made of smoke and smelling of rotten meat. Everything it touched died. The grass, the wollywogs, the pikmin. It hunted them down, choking them out.
He was a fool, thinking he could take this on. A disgrace of a leader… just a terrible fucking person. Because now all of the yellow pikmin were dead. None survived the fight. He led them into this battle, but for what? It didn't have a ship part, it wasn't in the way - it was just hiding in its shell, what was the fucking point? What was the point of ANY of this? There was no way he could get off this planet in thirty days, he was just delaying the inevitable and getting others killed for it. He curled up and sobbed now, causing the creature to step closer but it still didn't touch him.
And then it made a weird sound.
Olimar looked up, ears pinned back. It repeated the sound - it was speaking. Like the pikmin did. He couldn't understand a word of it but he knew it was speaking. To him.
Tumblr media
"What do you WANT from me?!?" He suddenly snapped, fur bristling and ears pinned back. "WHY DID YOU DO THIS?!? They're children they're-" he slumped back down, heart still racing. "... if you're going to kill me, just do it. Stop whatever this is."
It flinched away at the shout. It made another sound, followed by a shriek of pain as a red pikmin jumped down on it - Hope. It jammed a stick into its right eye, and was now clawing for the left one. Disoriented, it couldn't do much as the few surviving pikmin jumped on as well. It screeched again - they must've succeeded in blinding the other eye.
Olimar wasn't sure what was happening anymore, but soon the pikmin managed to kill it. Without him. They didn't need him - he was just making things worse. It dissipated into the air, a golden pearl being left behind. The pikmin all muttered over it, before Hope turned to Olimar.
"Omaa?" It asked.
Olimar just began to sob.
///////
Olimar sighed as he looked at the day's reports. It wasn't great. With the Awakening Wood finally clear of treasure, they were forced to explore elsewhere. It seemed they may have cleared out the easy caves. This one was full of so many damn rock bombs. His ears were still ringing, he hoped they were not permanently damaged. His body ached. That damn spider had a fucking machine gun because sure! Why not! Everything else on this planet was horrible!
… except for the pikmin.
He held his head in his hand as he kept writing. Thankfully, few pikmin died. They were cautious, they left treasure that was too risky to grab, and Olimar scouted alone in each section of the cave to ensure a safe path through. He also quite literally took a bullet for a pikmin. Somehow his suit took minimal damage, which he still had to repair, but his arm was fine. Just sore as hell now.
Few died. Many were injured. And he saw a horrible amalgamation of machine and animal. When it died, the machine tried to claw its way to a pikmin, to attach itself to it, but the pikmin was too small. Olimar ended up smashing the machine, spooking Louie and the pikmin but protecting them. A turret that powered off of living things. It was disgusting. Did the extinct race build that? Why? It was horrible.
Olimar jumped in his seat as he heard Louie enter.
"S-sorry Sir…" Louie stutterd. "I knocked, but you didn't answer. I made food."
A plate was set in front of him, a hearty pot roast served with local tubular plants. He didn't know what kind of meat it was - probably bulborb or snagret. It smelled divine, and Olimar knew it'd taste just as good if not better. "Thanks, buddy. I appreciate it, really."
Louie nodded, then "Can I ask a question? About the pikmin?"
"Yes?" Olimar took a small bite of the roast. Yep, absolute perfection. He sorta just… surprise adopted Louie after that little slip up, but he could still be a proud dad. Yeah? Because he was proud of the boy.
"How much do the pikmin understand us? Like… words n stuff."
"I'm honestly not sure. I think they can generally understand tone and may have learned a few words if… poorly." He chuckled. "They've heard my name plenty of times now and still call me 'Omaa' instead."
"And know 'stay' and 'over there' and wait for you to raise a hand before going after nectar grass patches."
"Yeah, that last one took… a while to teach them. Thank the gods for these space suits: the pikmins' claws do nothing to them!" Another laugh as he pointed to his damaged suit with his fork. "And evidently, bullets do little."
"... yeah. I noticed." Louie sighed. "So if they understand little, why do you ramble on to them?"
"They seem to enjoy it." Olimar shrugged. He took another bite before continuing. "And… I don't know, I think they at least understand that I care about them when I do that." He sighed. "I didn't do it enough before. I need to do it now."
Louie's ears flicked. "Didn't do it enough?"
Olimar paused. He hated talking about these things. Hated it. But Louie was always trying to get him to talk. Why? It was better to ignore it generally. But this was one mistake he desperately wanted to fix now rather than later, so… sure, he could tell him a little. "My first visit here, once I realized how easily the pikmin died, I tried to distance myself from them. So it'd hurt less. Yeah, that didn't last long at all. They're so kind and curious, you know?"
Louie nodded slowly. "Yeah…"
////
For the first time in over two weeks, Olimar was largely numb to the pikmin's presence.
He led them to pellet posies and easy prey to rebuild numbers. Even let them choose who would get the pearl (they chose to bury it nearby instead for some reason). But ever since the smoke monster left he was distant from the pikmin. From the world, even, running off of muscle memory alone. Hope kept trying to grab his attention, but he just looked away. He couldn't bear to face it right now. To face anyone right now.
He helped the red and blue pikmin. It was the least he could do now. The bare minimum after what had happened. Besides, he was tired of sitting on the ground crying and being useless. He didn't want to feel like that again, he didn't want to hurt the pikmin like that again.
And so he wouldn't.
But first, he had to give the remaining pikmin a second chance. He owed them that much.
////
"I feel bad about the times I just didn't think much of them. I never got to tell them how much they mean to me. So now I gotta do it, even if I annoy them with it." He laughed sadly. "They did save me."
Louie's ears were pinned back in worry now. But he seemed curious. "Saved you?"
"They helped me rebuild my ship." Olimar explained. "They defended me from wild creatures. They still do - though I'd do anything for them in turn."
"Yeah I've noticed that too. You go out of your way to protect them… I still just wish you didn't do so many scouting missions alone, though."
Olimar shook his head. "You needed to stay with the pikmin."
"Take a few pikmin with you then. Please. I don't… want you hurt is all."
"... alright." If it kept the kid from worrying, then fine. "I know you're worried about me buddy and I get why, but I'll be okay. Here we have the pikmin. And once we're home there will be nothing else to hurt us, okay?"
Louie nodded silently.
"The pikmin protect, and love. They keep me company at night, in my bunk, ...crushing my ribs." He chuckled again. "Good Gods above them purple pikmin are heavy. Anyways, on the surface and in the caves, they'll fight to protect us. So long as we have the pikmin, we'll be safe. From hazards, from beasts, and from ourselves."
The younger man looked up then. "Ourselves?"
////
It was night now, the Dolphin high in the air as the onion followed close behind. Olimar sat at his desk, writing, while a sneaky duo of pikmin watched him. He didn't want pikmin following him in tonight, but it happened anyways without his knowledge. He wouldn't do this if he knew they were there. And so he kept writing as Hope and the blue with viligito and a scar on its face. He wasn't sure why he wrote. He was in the middle of nowhere, no one was going to read this. No one was going to find this journal or this ship or him. Still, he wrote. Maybe someone would. Who knew?
The pikmin duo hid when Olimar finished and rose from his chair. He stared blankly at the Dolphin's main entrance for a moment, scared. He was terrified. He almost didn't want to… almost. He felt more guilt than fear.
He slowly made his way to the entrance hatch, looking out of the window. They were far up, beyond the trees. That large, terrifying lake looked so small now. He could cover it with his thumb.
With the Dolphin's main computer still gone, there were no safety mechanisms to stop him from opening the hatch. He looked out and down at the ground, the sound of the Dolphin's engine drowning out anything else. It looked beautiful. Without the glare of the hatch or his helmet, he could see the planet in its full glory. He felt a little light headed from the excess oxygen entering his system now. This was it.
But then he hesitated. Thoughts filled his head. Of the creatures he failed, the people he could no longer face. His body felt like lead, he couldn't move.
And then he was harshly pulled back by something, the sound of the hatch closing following soon after.
He was laying on his back in the Dolphin now, groaning from the impact. He was then greeted with the sounds of many terrified squeaks.
"H-what-?" He quickly sat up, head still spinning and pounding from the oxygen that got into his system. Two pikmin, one red and one blue, were in front of him speaking in panicked voices.
Olimar groaned and leaned against a wall, still needing to hold his head. They… followed anyways? Pikmin got on board? Oh fuck, no no no that wasn't suppsoed to happen, they wern't supposed to see this! And now they were panicking, walking over to him and hugging him tightly as they kept speaking words he didn't understand.
The red - Hope, Gods dammit it was Hope - gently touched his hand as it kept asking him something. He just looked away.
Based on Hope's tone, it seems that answered its question. Both it and the blue pikmin with viligito snuggled in close to him, cooing and even crying a little. Did… they know? Did they understand what had almost happened? He hated the thought. He hated a lot of his thoughts right now. He just hated himself for letting any of this happen.
"I-I'm sorry…" he managed out in a weak voice. "I'm so so so sorry…"
"Shhhh…" the pikmin cooed. Well that he understood at least. So he silenced himself as Hope reached up to brush a tear away. It didn't do much but it felt nice. "Too voe mo." That he didn't understand, but he heard the pikmin say it alot. Particularly when he was upset, or about to go to bed.
He pulled them both close, uncertain of what to do now.
////
Olimar's chest hurt. It felt tight, like something was grabbing his lungs. His stomach twisted as he leaned back. Oh, oh he had completely forgotten that memory. He wished it stayed that way. He didn't want to think about it ever again.
"Olimar?" Louie asked. No answer. "Olimar?!?" He stood up now. No answer. "D-Dad?!?"
That finally snapped Olimar back into the here and now, his ears leaning back. "S-Sorry Bud, I-"
The younger man let out a sigh of relief. "No, I-I'm sorry, dad. I shouldn't keep pushing you to tell me things you don't want to share. I just…" his ears leaned back. "I'm worried about you."
"... I know." Olimar sighed. "I am too. But… w-when we get home-"
"Will it really be okay? Will these things really just go away?"
Olimar didn't answer that.
"S-sorry - I - "
"Don't be. Just… we'll cross that bridge then. But on this planet, we have to stay focused. Okay? We'll figure this out when we're home."
"... alright." Louie sighed. "Alright."
Olimar frowned a bit and touched Louie's arm. "... but I promise I'll do what helps me once I'm home. Okay? And… I'm sorry for worrying you. I'm sorry you had to be here."
Louie didn't respond to that, simply looking away.
"... I'll take care of the both of us, buddy. I promise. Okay? I promise."
The younger man sighed. "A-Alright, dad. Alright…"
////
Olimar slowly climbed out of the Dolphin the next morning, Hope and the little scarred blue following him. He wasn't sure what he was going to do now… everything still hurt. Thankfully, the pikmin seemed to know what to do. They always did. They tugged on him and pointed to the onion. He looked up and watched as a little yellow seed popped out.
Olimar didn't know what to say. He could rebuild the yellow pikmin population. There was a second chance for them, for him. He didn't feel like he deserved it. The yellows that had died yesterday couldn't just be replaced. Those two little faces he came to recognize were gone as well.
He flinched as he heard leaves shuffling. The blue pikmin had brought back a yellow one pellet. The red had dug up yesterday's golden pearl and rolled it over. So they knew this would happen. They chose for the yellows to have it. The two pikmin looked up at him, as if waiting for direction. They still stayed with him. They wanted him here. And now he had the chance to try again. He had far more days left than parts he needed to collect now.
… he could still get off this planet alive. If it's what the pikmin who already risked so much to save him wanted, then so be it. He couldn't deny them now. Not after all they saved him from. He'd do this for them, at least, just… not for himself. Not yet.
Media Natal Chart Art Project
So, I came up with an idea of an art project I wanted to do sometime, and as I was thinking about it, I realized, hey maybe other people might find this to be a fun sort of experiment too, you never know.
And it has to do with personal Astrology and Media
the basic idea is, to draw out your natal chart, or roughly, the 12 zodiac symbols and the planets, and which planets fall into which zodiacs in that circle for you personally, and then have the twelve zodiacs each be represented by a character in media that’s personally relevant to you as a representation of that Zodiac
Me personally, I chose characters that represented 12 (well, thirteen technically) different video game franchises that I’ve always loved and are dear to me, but specifically animal characters because Zodiac lol
and I mapped them out onto a star chart sort of thing, and one day I want to paint them out with all the different symbols of those video games alongside them as well like a star map of my psyche :p
the basic concept of mine I have as basically this:
Tumblr media
Starting with Virgo, which is the Sign that is in my Ascendant/Rising Sign or my First House, in the East (Because the Sun Rises in the East)
 (Different people may have different ascendants/rising signs aka different zodiacs in the first house, mine just happens to be Virgo)
and working down around the clock, to the other side, and then ending with Leo my 12th House.
The Center/Star/Technically Sun = Nova from Kirby (I made the eyes look down at Sagittarius, because that’s where my Sun actually is lol)
Virgo the Wolf = Isabelle + Animal Crossing
Libra the Eagle = Spyro the Dragon, he’s a flier kinda like an Eagle, but also the dragon being Libra is a subtle Homestuck reference as well lol
Scorpio the Serpent = Rope Snake from EarthBound
Sagittarius the Horse = Epona from Legend of Zelda
Capricorn the Turtle = Yoshi from Mario (He’s a shelled lizard it kinda counts)
Aquarius the Dove = Chocobo from Final Fantasy
Pisces the Fish = Enguarde from Donkey Kong
Aries the Goat = Asriel from Undertale
Taurus the Bull = Cow from Harvest Moon (AWL)
Gemini the Cat(s) = Mew and Mewtwo from Pokemon
Cancer the Crab = Mamuta from Pikmin
Leo the Lion = Gatomon from Digimon (Not a lion but also I like Leomon also a lot as well and the Mews fit better as the twin cats, Leomon is here in spirit)
and the Planets are the various little marbles all connected to each house, colored by the elements I associate them with
Moon in Leo, 12th House - Yin
Mercury in Scorpio, 3rd House - Air
Jupiter in Scorpio, 3rd House - Wood
Sun in Sagittarius, 4th House - Yang
Mars in Sagittarius, 4th House - Fire
Venus in Sagittarius, 4th House - Gemstones/Rock (Earth)
Uranus in Capricorn, 5th House - Aether/Lightning
Neptune in Capricorn, 5th House - Water
Saturn in Aquarius, 6th House - Metal
Earth in Aquarius, 6th House - Soil/Dirt (Earth)
(I like the idea of putting the planet Earth on the natal chart since it is technically also a Planet that influences things, it’s nature as being Tide-Locked to always face the Moon means it’s position is always in opposition to the Moon on the chart. It’s element is Earth just like Venus, but their symbolism is split between Nurturing Soil and Decorative GemStone.)
The essential idea of this is what pieces of Media give me both childhood nostalgia and are reflection of me as a kid or things that would have been major impacts on me as a kid, represented in the idea of a literal Natal Chart
Pikmin 3: Final Thoughts (Spoilers)
If you have not played Pikmin 3 and are considering it, I strongly advise you to avoid this review. You've been warned. So, of the games I've gotten recently, Pikmin 3 definitely was the center of attention. It was nothing like anything else I've ever played before, and I loved it. It's strange. While playing it, I often end up thinking "this is frustrating." But afterward, I would look back and realize that I had fun, and then I became eager to play again. This wasn't always the case, obviously. There were moments in the main game where I enjoyed myself as I was playing. The game blends the uses of Pikmin very well. It never really seemed like the game was forcing you to tear your attention from your other Pikmin to focus on one. Do your new yellow Pikmin need to do some electric stuff? Here's some enemies to attack with your red Pikmin. Need something to do while your blue Pikmin work underwater? Collect stuff with the rest. It never seemed to be too focused on one activity. That's another thing I like about the game. It forces you to multitask. If you don't split up your captains and use them effectively, you're going to be unable to progress. Especially in one area of the game. But I'll get to that later. While I try to put as much distance between myself and the discussion of said thing as possible, I'll talk about some other stuff. Like the graphics. As I've said earlier, while not technically as advanced as other consoles, or even other games on the Wii U, (most likely because most of the resources are going toward AI) it still looks nice. The colors are vibrant, the areas all look different, it just looks nice. The music is also pretty good. While it's nothing particularly special, it works well, with calming tunes for walking through the areas, proper battle themes for bosses, and more "electronic" music for the launch of the ship into space at the end of the day. I don't really have much to say about the gameplay, as it's rather simple. The one thing I feel like I should mention is the Charge ability, which is a command that allows you to send all of your Pikmin after one target. This is extremely useful, and, now that I've started playing the original Pikmin, wasn't available previously. (At least not at the beginning of the game, as I'm not very far into it yet.) Pikmin instantly grab on to items nearby them, winged Pikmin automatically lock on to aerial targets, (another very useful ability) and a few other little things make the gameplay flow incredibly well, most of the time. I have a few very minor problems with this game, and one major one. First, the little things. Pikmin are idiots. I know that it would be hard to program more advanced AI, and that giving them the gift of common sense would make the game too easy, but there are a few moments where the AI is an annoyance. My main experience with this was when I was clearing out a large group of enemies inside of a cave. I started throwing Pikmin onto the dead enemies in order to have them carry the bodies back to my ship. While I was still fighting, the number of Pikmin, shown in the bottom corner of the screen, started dropping. After I was finished with the enemies, I walked over to where a lot of my Pikmin had died. In the center of this area, there were flame geysers. Off to the sides, there were not. The Pikmin carrying the objects felt like walking into the flames and dying rather than walking around them. I wouldn't have even been able to help them avoid the fire, as doing so would take up a large amount of time. Another small problem is that some of the enemies seem a little too powerful. In fact, some of them killed many more of my Pikmin than any of the bosses did. Particularly, the Peckish Aristocrab, which grabs Pikmin and eats them. You can break it's claws, but throwing your Pikmin at said claws leaves your Pikmin vulnerable to it's attack. You can't just charge your Pikmin onto it, either, as it will just let them go under it and then proceed to eat them. The two Aristocrabs you encounter throughout the game killed more of my Pikmin than four of the six bosses, including the final boss, combined. Either I just had a lot of trouble with this enemy or it could have been designed a little better. There were a few other cases where enemies were too efficient in murdering my beloved carrots. I could nitpick a few other things, but they all didn't affect my enjoyment or the overall difficulty of the game that much, so I won't bother people with those. Now, onto the dreaded major problem, which may not even be a problem: the Formidable Oak. The final area of the game. You can take multiple paths through it, which is interesting, and a nice change from the game's usual pseudo-linear order of progressing through each level, but there's one thing that makes the entire level incredibly frustrating, stressful, and difficult: the Mysterious Lifeform. I've heard some people say they like that it is there, and I can see why, but I disliked it quite a bit. Mr. Gold Blob, more often known as the Mysterious Lifeform or just ??? is a giant invincible blob of goo that will chase a certain object that you are carrying throughout the entirety of the level. You need this object to finish the level, and if the Lifeform gets it, it ends your day after a short period of time, causing all of your Pikmin that are not near you to die. The blob will often take shortcuts toward you that you cannot walk through, or just block narrow corridors that you absolutely need to go through. Any Pikmin that touch it will become stuck until you chase after the Lifeform and gather them again. This is especially irritating because of the Pikmin's poor AI. They will literally just walk into it. All of this would be better if the Oak was a large area, but because it's rather small, it's very difficult to avoid the Lifeform. I can see why some people may enjoy the challenge, but suddenly adding an obstacle unlike anything you've faced before just makes the level too difficult. I wouldn't actually call the level difficult, the more I think about it. Only three of my Pikmin perished in the less than forty minutes spent on the level. Those forty minutes were extremely stressful, and could be somewhat frustrating. However, the area was also a little enjoyable, when things were going just well enough that I didn't have to rework my plans every five seconds. This area definitely doesn't ruin the game. I have mixed feelings on the final boss. While having it be what it is apparently lines up better with one of the bosses of the previous game, one thing we must consider is that the Mysterious Lifeform is though to be what caused all of the captains to crash land on the planet. This creature personifies the planet itself. Because of this, I wish it was something more akin to the penultimate boss, which was the largest enemy in the game: an island of rock on four stone legs, with a fruit-like weak spot on top of it, which is reminiscent of something out of Shadow of the Collossus. I feel that an even larger and more advanced version of it would work better as a final boss than the golden goo. While the idea of using all five Pikmin types in the final fight was a good idea, having the boss's main attack be a fast, almost unavoidable, irreversible instant Pikmin kill would normally make the fight frustrating. However, one type of Pikmin is immune to this attack. While completing the fight with only this type increases the amount of time it takes and may seem like "cheating," I used the strategy anyway. My final results were that I completed the game in 46 in-game days. (keep in mind that I didn't discover the Charge feature until nearly halfway through the game) I gathered every piece of fruit, and 912 Pikmin survived, compared to 334 dead. While this review may seem negative, it's because it's hard to describe the joy I get from Pikmin. It's satisfying to use the mechanics in such a way and plan well enough that everything goes just as planned, maybe with a few more casualties than expected. I wouldn't recommend Pikmin 3 to people to seem especially opposed to it, but if you're on the fence about it, I'd suggest considering it, as I've personally very much enjoyed it.
