I've seen your recent anons and replies. Mistakes can happen, I agree. However, some of them could have been easily avoided if the Duffers kept track or notes. I don't want to beat the dead horse, but them mixing up Billy/William on the gravestone and forgetting Will's birthday is a pretty lazy and serious error. Billy & Will are not my favourites, but I like them in the narrative and I care about the whole puzzle. So I expect good writing on all characters, even the ones I don't care much about. They are still important pieces and messing up such details however tiny they might seem makes me lose faith in them as writers. I like so many other made the biggest assumptions and theories based on these 2 details. Billy/William is in a short trailer for God's sake! And Will's birthday was mentioned by Joyce in a pivotal scene to try and save Will. During El's bullying scene they chose to show that date exactly on the camera recorder screen. It's normal everyone made theories. So when it turns out those were just mistakes oh oopsie, it feels like a slap in the face. I was so worried, too, because I couldn't believe Joyce or Jonathan would ever forget Will's birthday.
Sorry for prolonging but this is careless for me. I may have closed and eye or two on other things, but this is too much. I lost faith on the writers and am scared for season 5.
Also certain writing choices annoy me, and I haven't even talked about Mike's senseless monologue yet.
don't get me wrong, i think everyone is entitled or allowed to be critical of the writing the duffer brothers put out. and i do understand why messing up / forgetting details can be frustrating to fans, myself included at times. and furthermore, i understand why that creates anxiety for s5. people care about this show very much, that is pretty obvious, so i get why it's an issue. and the duffer brothers should also realize that just because the show got so big doesn't mean they shouldn't still try their best.
but i guess at the end of the day it's a question of whether or not as an individual you can still enjoy the show while knowing all of this.
i'll be honest, because of some of the mistakes + choices made this season that i do not particularly agree with, i also have my fears for s5, and my expectations are a bit lower, but there are still a lot of things i love about it and i'm curious to see where it goes.
i'm gonna be honest about one thing regarding mike wheeler's storyline with eleven this season (tho i do wanna say to anyone reading this that while i'll reblog a post or two which kind of makes fun of mike, this is not anti mike blog so do not come in my inbox with negativity like that because i will not reply to you): i do not think they should have waited till s4 to deal with a "mike can't tell el he loves her due to not being able to express himself because he didn't really have the best of models in his life"
i feel like by season 4, this should have been dealt with. like i think it's sweet that mike was there for her and encouraged her to fight when she needed the confidence, but i also feel like eleven seeing max like that should have been enough.
idk i'm also trying not to nitpick. clearly i wasn't a fan of the way they handled both mileven and byler this season and i thought we'd find mike in a better place than the "it's not my fault you don't like girls" thing he had with will last season because i'm still clueless as to why he made that hug weird in episode 1 but who knows, maybe they're foreshadowing something in s5. or maybe their intention with that scene didn't translate well enough to people in the audience like me.
from what we gather later, they didn't talk that much the past year with mike mostly talking to eleven, but i still don't see that as a reason for mike to make that hug awkward.
anyway bottom line is i get those things can be frustrating, but at the same time there's not really much to do when you're in the audience

just some observations + thoughts about this:
Dacre accidentally defaulting to a New Yorker American accent and hand gestures for a few seconds is highly hilarious and the fact that that’s the take they chose to use, i love it.
The iconic “it’s givin me da heebiejeebies”, peep this grandpa, we love that that’s a thing Billy said in canon. It seems like something a bad fanfic writer would make him say BUT NO. He actually said it.
This is one of the only times Billy actually calls Max his sister of his free will and i... 🥺 of course it’s to Steve.
Why do none of the Billy antis realize that this is completely valid thing for Billy to think? Billy has ZERO context as to what’s going on with the Upside Down, no one thought to try to tell him (despite the fact that the Byers house is a mess for a reason and there’s a literal demogorgon chestburster in the fridge that would’ve made it incredibly easy to convince him). From his perspective, it is so weird for this 18 y/o senior to be hanging around alone in this random person’s house with his middle school sister and a bunch of boys. Like i know we’ve been conditioned by this point in season 2 to know that Steve’s a good guy and has no bad intentions with the kiddos, but it’s so obvious why this is weird from Billy’s perspective.
Billy and Max have only lived in Hawkins for 1 WEEK at this point. They start going to Hawkins schools on October 30th and the fight happens November 5th. They just went through a MAJOR cross country move, likely due to traumatic reasons (depending on if you follow Runaway Max, which has since been retconned after Season 3, or the fanon theories, or even none at all, moving so far from somewhere you’ve lived your whole life can be traumatic on its own, not to mention with an abusive parent). In my opinion, he jumped the gun on fighting Steve, but it makes sense after Steve straight up lied to his face without any remorse. It doesn’t make it right, but it makes sense with context and the tiniest amount of thought.
And a random thought that this inspired: BOTH Billy and Max are in high conflict mode at this point with all of these big changes being so recent and i would give my left foot to see them interact a few months down the line. The most we get of this is we see them share a look before Max goes to the Snow Ball, and while Max is still standoffish, Billy looks almost remorseful. By the time Billy is possessed, Max obviously has forgiven Billy to some degree for his anger in this time period and cares for him deeply (by the way she reacts in The Sauna Test and Battle of Starcourt episodes).
What happened in the ~seven months between s2 and s3?? Release the flashbacks, Duffers!! Do the “make Billy’s death actually mean something” challenge or die by my sword.

So, I was reading @crustyslurpees’s post about how Alexei’s probably going to end up being alive in season four (I’d recommend reading it here, it’s really good!) when I noticed something in the pictures they used as evidence:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the “two” twitter post and the “😭” column, there’s a picture of Steve and Max.
Now, it’s been nearly a year since I’ve last watched Stranger Things, so I don’t remember everything perfectly, but as far as I remember, Steve and Max don’t really interact a lot, especially in season three. Steve’s closest relationships in the show have been Nancy, Robin, and Dustin (as well as Jonathan and Billy, but we all know how following the respective seasons where Steve has the most conflicting with both of them, the Duffer Brothers hardly let them interact).
Of course Steve and Max have a few things in common (like aiding the Party against the Upside Down, but everyone has that in common), but the most prevalent to me, at least, is Billy. Out of all the cast of characters, in season two, Billy fought with both Max and Steve the most (in fact, we know at the Byers house, both of them directly engaged with fighting Billy).
Now, the Alexei post mentioned that the ST writers said that the chart in the second photo I have provided isn’t too far off. Like I mentioned before, I’m not too well versed in Stranger Things season four theories or what goes on their Twitter, but if the emoji for the picture of Max and Steve is correct, I think we might actually get to see Max and Steve possibly talking about Billy, maybe possibly bonding over how they knew him. Or maybe he’ll turn out to be alive (as the Alexei post said, there’s going to be a lot of plot twists in this season).
Now, this is mostly wishful thinking. It just struck me odd that the ST writers posted a picture of two character together that (as far as I remember) interacted the least.
Feel free to add onto this or correct me if I forgot something about season two/three Max and Steve! Like I said, it’s been a while, so I don’t remember everything perfectly.
(Also, if you’re going to comment on this post something anti-Harringrove, please save everyone’s time and don’t. I understand that canonically they had an antagonist relationship back in season two, but the implication I’m trying to make here isn’t trying to sexualise them or strictly make it a romantic relationship. I think it would be an interesting concept, but honestly, I also think it would be cool if they became friends if Billy turns out to be alive. This post is merely to discuss a theory on the ST writers’ choice of using a Max and Steve picture. Thank you.)
