In my opinion human villains in Transformers can work if you make them really despicable like Silas, really smart like Mandroid, or both like Meltdown.

I liked a lot of the human villains we've seen in transformers, but as I've learned today my opinions in transformers are rather permissive (see: me not caring that bayverse isn't made well) so I may not be a good judge of whether a human villain works or not

I'm not a huge fan of Shattered Glass either for my own petty reasons, but applying it to TFA specifically makes it really funny, because all of Detroit's supervillains just become incredibly strange do-gooders. What the fuck is Headmaster's deal in this universe. What is up with Meltdown.

I didn't even think of Meltdown! Okay so I think that Masterson would be like a white hat hacker like I mentioned but also an over the top do-no-harm guy. Like offers you one of his reusable straws from his collection so you don't use a plastic one and walks to work to ensure he has a zero carbon footprint and denounces fast fashion. Like that kinda guy.

Meltdown I could see as maybe like a tragic accident in the pursuit of good. Like instead of trying to make super humans, he was trying to use his research to help human issues. Like maybe making a chemical that would improve skin strength in people with fragile skin conditions or trying to find a cure all drug that could be applied to almost any disease. Then of course the lab accident happens but he wants to continue his research but uhhh something something evil Autobots wanna use him as a chemical weapon. Bonus points if instead of being incredibly acidic he's incredibly alkaline. Which is still bad but a different kinda problem!
