decided to pick up my Pokemon Heart Gold version for the first time in ages and play it;; mostly bc I wanted to check that the event Regigigas from like 2009 was still there. I’d traded it from my diamond game for safe keeping back when I wanted to restart diamond in like 2014

but that meant I couldn’t restart HeartGold without losing it and the other Pokemon I’d saved from the other game, including some Pokemon I’d traded with a school friend I’d bumped into at the Regigigas distribution event (which I literally happened upon by chance btw, I didn’t go to that centre knowing it was happening, I was there for something else and happened to get really lucky since that’s the only Pokemon event I ever went to;;; so it’s a special memory, as are the Pokemon I traded with that friend who I do not know anymore;;)

anyway I was thinking that with certain Nintendo DS things being phased out I wanted to get all those old Pokemon, the oldest surviving ones I’ve managed to hold onto, and move them up into Pokemon home and hopefully keep them safe that way before it’s too late;; bc if I leave them on the DS they might be stuck there eventually and if anything happens to my old games they’d be lost;;

but in order to move them into Pokemon Bank I think I need to move them into a gen 5 game so I had to finish some unfinished story parts of the game from where I’d left off and I’m going to have to play through one of my BW games to unlock the ability to transfer them over;;;

but it’s been fun and nostalgic playing HG for the first time in so long;; I love johto so much;;;

and also it’s hilarious to me that that particular save file was started in 2012 and here I am all this time later in 2024 finally making it to the league to beat it xD

i woke up from a nap 30 minutes ago with the best animatic idea (two birds by regina spektor my beloved) ive had in 17 years with kris and lyra and ive been stuck in a very intense catastrophic autism event about it the entire 30 minutes,

LIKE OK WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH THE IDEAS I HAVE PLANNED FOR THESE TWO IN THE FIRST PLACE #like. in my head kris originally lived in new bark town and was friends with ethan #but had to move away because her mom got a job at the goldenrod radio tower #and lyra moves in soon after! ethans upset and pretends to dislike lyra but his mom makes him play with lyra and they hit it off instantly #kris is really shy and she has low energy so she doesnt really make any new friends in the city. she really only has her mom #and her phone calls with ethan #meanwhile lyra is really energetic and social and makes a lot of friends really quick! #so when ethan starts journeying and reunites with kris in goldenrod and kris finally meets lyra she cant help but just. hate her. #its not just that she moved into kris's house and took her place as ethan's friend. lyra has a lot of the things kris wishes she had #then team rocket takes over goldenrod city and kris's mom is trapped in the tower like all the other employees. #lyra is the one who gets into the tower first and she helps a lot of innocent people get out including kris's mom #and kris is grateful her mom is safe (shes really close to her mom since shes one of the only people she has) but also. really confused? #shes been nothing but a jerk to lyra since theyve met. #but when she started panicking about her mom being in danger lyra promised to find her anyways. and she saved her too! #after lyra's dad finds out about the team rocket takeover though he lyra to come home. #he always worried for lyras safety and wants her to stay out of trouble (theres a really good reason for this btw) #and lyra disobeyed him when he called her and told her to stay away from the city #and kris doesnt feel like she should just. stand by and let that happen! lyra helped save her mom. #and her journey is really important to herself and so kris goes right up to lyras dad and gives him quite the earful #she somehow manages to convince him to let lyra finish her journey! and lyra is so fucking grateful #and the two start becoming friends from that point on. lyra becomes really important to kris #im thinking of maybe lyra giving kris two thin white ribbons to tie ribbons on her pigtails? #first of all as a symbol of their friendship and also to draw similarities between the two of them #second of all. Okay I know you've said you aren't really into Giovanni but just an idea that's been rolling around in my head sometimes I think the idea that Nanu's partner was with Giovanni before is funny (or vice versa) because I like to imagine one finding out and just being like "ah you've got a type" aka older men with Persians even if it's just an accident on their partner's fault Also as I wrote this I just imagined Nanu and his partner spiderman pointing meme at each other like "...how do you know Giovanni"

“… What do you mean that you had a one-night stand with the head of Team Rocket,” Nanu cocked a brow up from his place on the couch. He had been watching television vacantly while petting a Meowth. Some news flash had occurred, which brought your attention to it, too. A familiar logo was shown on the screen alongside an apparent takeover of the Aether Foundation. The old man planned on ignoring it and waiting it out, but you had apparently recalled something.

As much as he wanted to feign surprise, he supposed he should not play dumb. Giovanni was well-travelled and had a bit of streak. His time as an Elite officer in the International Police had garnered him a few connections. Most officers struggled with negotiations with Giovanni, but Nanu was fully aware of how to deal with those types. “You really aren't his normal type,” Nanu continued, leaning back. You seemed surprised by his words.

“How do you know Giovanni?” The question was heavy in the world. He only responded with a deadpan look. It should have been obvious. You were aware of his previous work. Looked had made sure of that when he paid a visit to Po town police station.

“… I'd ask the same of you,” he tilted his head. You blanked for a moment. Nanu did truly debate it for a moment. Were you a powerful trainer? It was a sure-fire method to encounter him. He seriously doubted you were a member of Team Rocket, but he supposed that was not impossible. Did you like to gamble? There was that casino Giovanni had owned as a front in Kanto. “Is it a common thing for you to go after older men with Persians?” he finally asked.

You blanked again. Well… It was not as if there was not an appeal to older men, but you were not sure that having a Persian was a necessary prerequisite. Though, thinking on it, there were some other traits that seemed to link the two, even if it was not so strong. “Uh… maybe,” you replied to his question. Nanu fought back a chuckle. Well, not overly surprising. “Hey, shouldn't you and Looker do something for what's happening at the Aether Foundation, then,” you decided to change the topic.

“No,” he leaned back, “Not my job.”

You wanted to sigh.

Well, why not go yourself, you thought. Maybe it would be nice to run into Giovanni again.

“What do you mean that you are dating Nanu?” The Rocket Boss seemed bewildered when you showed up within the depths of the mansion he had taken over. Certainly, he had recalled a previous “relationship” between him and you. Well, he supposed an alternate version for you, but a you nonetheless. Clearly, you were a more than capable trainer to have got through not only his grunts, but the many other organisation leaders that he had brought here. Then, you start a conversation immediately with that.

“I don't know,” you shrugged, “He implied I have a type because I mentioned that we fucked once.” Giovanni hummed. Well… Nanu certainly was not dissimilar to him, but he would not say their overlapping traits were more than their differences. Though, he did find the information that Nanu was around fascinating. Had he helped you? His eyes narrowed.

“Uh, also I'm here to stop you,” you pulled out a pokeball, “Before you ask, I'm not interested.”

“… Interested in having an affair or joining Team Rocket?” he tilted his head. Might as well try. Perhaps you could be convinced to either and get out of his way for just long enough to finish his work. Whatever it took to satiate you… And still possibly convince you to join his group would be preferred.

“Both,” you shrugged, “Nanu is better than you, sorry to say.”

Well, that pissed Giovanni off. Now he really had to put you in your place.

Nanu could only ask later what you did and why.

The Pokemon Taken Treasures/Team Rocket Takeover has been announced for Jan27-Feb1. Shadow Ho-Oh makes its debut in Raids, and Varoom is available via 12km eggs. Giovanni will have Shadow Kyogre.

Also, were Sword and Shield Niantic's least favorite games too? All we have are a handful of early route Pokemon, the wolves (very rarely in Raids), and the regional forms, but it feels like we've been getting Gen9 in pretty much every other event 😅:

You like Team Rocket? Their early crime and motives were a little too bland for my taste. But when Gold and Silver came out in 1999, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole organization has a feral, unhinged energy to it, and a new catchy battle OST. That really gives the characters a big boost. They've been compared to the mafia by western citizens, but I think Rocket has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor as the yakuza. In 2010, GameFreak released this -- Heart Gold and Soul Silver, their most accomplished game. I think their undisputed OST masterpiece is "Radio Tower Takeover" The song's so catchy, most people probably don't think about the horrors unfolding as the song plays. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of cracking under the pressure while trying to keep the pieces of a broken organization together, and the importance of not getting the shit beaten out of you by teenagers. It's also a personal statement about the team itself, and their new band of colorful, mentally unwell executives.

Gen. Do you mean to say that this incident has happened in multiple universes? I cannot say I like that at all.

...If I could merely find a way into the building, you would need to be far more worried about Team Rocket than about me. Unfortunately, they reinforced the ground floor of the building, and neither I nor any of my Pokémon possess the raw strength necessary to break the doors down as we did in Mahogany Town.

There must be another way in. But time is of the essence, and I will need time that I do not have to find such a passageway.

However. There may be another method of attaining the strength needed here, and... in all honesty, I suppose I am desperate enough to try something bordering on the outright insane.

I only hope that this will not be a complete waste of my time, because I do not know how else I could get into the Radio Tower. Once I am inside... well. It will be a very different story then, even lacking as I am in my old weaponry.

Currently, I am returning to Ecruteak to discuss the matter further. If nothing else, perhaps it will make Team Rocket believe falsely that I have given up.

There are Special Research challenges you just have to be on the game currently to activate and then it’s non-timed so you can complete it as you go. The November Team Rocket GO event ends with fighting Giovanni and getting Shadow Mewtwo! (Altho he can be purified when you get enough rare or mewtwo candy.) Thought you might want to know sknce you said you only want to join if you can get Mewtwo :)

finally here’s the big one! featuring the masterminds behind the whole ordeal.

ghetsis absolutely could have stayed behind in his own world while giovanni did the work of subjugating the other universe, but he decided that he needed to keep an eye on his subordinate, just in case… because despite his comfortable position as ghetsis’s lapdog, giovanni still has a taste for further power. for now, he obeys his king and keeps his schemes to himself.

while this alternate version of colress doesn’t actually invade the base universe with the rest of rainbow rocket, he’s still worth mentioning because his technology is why they can do this stuff in the first place. (and because I wanted to draw him)

As far as the physical world is concerned, this universe is identical to the base universe. The primary difference here is the state of the world, which has been entirely taken over by Team Plasma. A global-scale psychic suggestion field blankets the Earth to keep the population compliant. Under Ghetsis’s rule, the world lives in relative harmony with little conflict and little to worry about.

Though Team Plasma’s takeover was not entirely on the back of psychic mind-control technology, the implementation of the psychic field secured their success and expansion beyond Unova. However, the field comes with the tradeoff of global stagnation in progress and creativity.

GHETSIS HARMONIA: Ghetsis rules over his world as the king of Team Plasma, yet is still as power hungry as ever. Taking Reshiram was not enough, so he sought out Kyurem to further boost his power. Control of his own planet was not enough, so now he seeks to further expand his influence to worlds beyond. He has no special abilities aside from the technology in his cane that allows him to control both Pokemon and people. 

GIOVANNI SAKAKI: Giovanni Sakaki, former leader of Team Rocket, serves as Ghetsis’s right hand within Team Plasma. Any who manage to break free from the control of Team Plasma will “mysteriously disappear” at the hands of Giovanni and his Mewtwo. Now he acts as leader of Rainbow Rocket, the internal subdivision within Plasma that acts as its cross-dimensional muscle.

COLRESS ACHROMA: Colress is the sole reason Team Plasma can keep its chokehold on the planet and travel between universes. He’s the pioneer behind the light-based mind control technology that covers the globe and bends the population to Plasma’s ideals. This version of Colress is blind due to his extensive work with Necrozma and to protect himself from the very technology that lets him control the world.

Red is a former Kanto Champion, and was honored in the Hall of Fame at 14.

His Gym Challenge took three years, starting when he was 11 years old.

He was responsible for the ousting of Team Rocket in the Kanto Region after fighting Giovanni in Silph Co and publicizing Rocket's shameful actions.

He disappeared for four years after taking the Hall of Fame position.

No one actually knew where he went, save for maybe Professor Oak.

Red is one of the strongest trainers in the entire world, and regularly competes as a competitive battler.

Red's aces are his entire team: He's most known for Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, and Pikachu. Lapras and Snorlax are his common Alternates.

In Hoenn's Monsoon Tournament a year after Goldenrod Tower's Takeover, Red won first place after a higher win streak. The fight destroyed the stadium. 

Due to the damage, it was revealed that Red’s team at that point was level 100 across the board.

Red had a 4-0 win streak in the Pokémon World Tournament.

Red was a participant in the Pasio initial sync study. He frequents back often, and has beaten the island's owner, Lear, every time he has combatted Lear.

Red is one of two Battle Legends that maintain the Battle Tree during the season in Alola. As of now, Battle Legend is a title that is only held by the two of them.

He's colloquially known as Blue/Green, and Leaf's Rival.

He completed Kanto’s Pokédex entirely, though did not keep almost any of the monsters he caught or traded.

In the Saffron City Pokemon World Tournament, Red placed 1st in the Champion Bracket, as the Champion of Life.

Private Knowledge

He’s mute. No vocalizations at all. He can’t make any noise. He has no vocal chords. He will usually communicate with a notepad and it’s one of his curses that he has to study how to write script in the regions he visits. If people CAN sign it’s a real boon to him, but he won't understand everyone's signing.

Red's infected on a massive scale with Pokérus, and is on inhibitors to keep from infecting other Pokemon. This infection has caused his own team to be abnormally large and fall into the XXL or larger category.

Red has an equivalent to Lyme Disease. His natural immune system is completely shot. He'd die if he caught a cold and the Pokérus was suppressed.

That being said, items that work on Pokémon work on him too due to this reason.

He's Giovanni's nephew. Dominico Sakaki was his dad.

He technically drew the Silph Co. battle with Giovanni, but ultimately won the war due to how the battle played out.

He’s a Kalosian Catamour (Catacomb Society Member). He’s won the deadpool at the Catamour club “Ossuary” three times, and regularly works for the club owner searching for eccentricities in the wide world.

He did have a white hand on its shoulder but it's gone now. He does, in fact, believe in ghosts.

He's very attached to spiritual places and draws in ghosts.

He’s married to @oukido​​.

His team constantly changes depending on his situation. He has a list of Pokémon he can go through.

Hailing from Saffron City in Kanto, it's Silph Co.'s Sweethearts: Team Mikan! They come to us here by the endorsement of Cinnabar Gym's Hotheaded Quiz Master, Blaine!

Alongside her parents and "twin sister" (Mitsue the Arcanine), Mikan works at Saffron City's Silph Company Head Office where they work on fantastic inventions, tools and wares for the use of trainers the world over, though Mikan herself seems to be limited to more of an intern position despite her keen intellect and knack for machines.

One might not think a homebody such as Mikan to be much of a battler (let alone a Championship contender), but according to some sources she has been honing her battling skills since childhood, apparently around the time of the Team Rocket takeover of Silph Co. many years ago.
