Ahoy, mateys!
Team Aqua's very own straight man Steve here!
I like reading the morning paper, mowing the lawn, talking about the weather, and taking care of my fish :)
I breed carvanha as a hobby and I give em to some of the new recruits who want em, but if you ask I'll give ya one!
Tumblr media
My pokemon:
Chonny the Sharpedo (F)
Nami the Milotic (F)
Morby the Wailmer (M)
Landlubber Jr. the Poochyena (M)
Washing Machine the Carvanha (M, ✨)
Dryer the Feebas (M, ✨)
+ lots more fish!!!!
Hiiiiii it's meeeeee, Toxx's cringefail alter ego (aka @sociallyodd260. The same guy who runs @toxx-apex-727.) back at it again 😔
Steve is too powerful he needed his own blog. For anyone who somehow found this blog that's not on the faller discord server, Aqua Straight Steve is a character that was born from joking that team aqua only hires gay people, but there's just this one straight guy that they keep around bc he's just a homie. Steve is that token straight. We love Steve.
Anyways all I ask is no nsfw, and if you wanna start any rp stuff just ask me!
Pelliper mail, pelliper malice and magic anons are all on, so go wild messing with Straight Steve lol.
[[anything ooc in tags or on the blog are always gonna look like this btw!]]

Something that's always kinda funny to me is universes where Team Aqua and Magma disbanded or reformed or what have you, but still have grunts running around being bitter about it trying to keep the movement going. buddy you and your singular Carvanha are getting nowhere with this
// (abandoned oc concept I didn't feel like taking the idea further and all)
That's always interesting to see! One could almost admire their dedication...

Pokemon Emerald Ralts Only Part 4: Fish and Magnets
So this one took a lot longer than I had expected it would and was a lot harder. Ultimately I'm a rather methodical player so sometimes when I have to reset I'll just jump back in and see whether it was just bad luck, or whether there's a different strategy I could be using, instead of just resigning myself to having to grind a little more. I really want to avoid just grinding and overleveling whenever possible, in part because I want to create strategies that are reasonably quick to execute and reproducible. But I'm not perfect, so expect the reset count to climb pretty high this update.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
At least the start isn't too bad. We're still in Dewford, so make sure to deliver the letter to Steven, which just involves some stumbling around in the dark. Thankfully Flash feels really optional in Generation III.
Tumblr media
As an aside, a truly baffling number of TMs we get early on that Ralts just simply cannot use. It's a bit depressing but at minimum its a bit of extra cash in our pocket. There's a good reason we might want to have this extra cash on hand, but it won't come up for a while so I won't bring it up.
Moving on to Slateport, I elect not to fight too many additional trainers yet. We're reasonably overleveled now and I am starting to form a gameplan for Watson which I think will allow us to beat him at a lower level than you might think! We do the fights that get us the Soda Pop though, since its free healing items. After that we go to deliver the Devon Goods.
Tumblr media
It's here we get our first actually usable Ralts TM: Thief. Thief is a 40 base power Dark-type move that also steals our opponent's item. It might be one of the most underutilized moves in a challenge run, but I don't want to teach it just yet. We only get one of these TMs, so I want to make sure we use it at the right time. So now we go upstairs to fight the Aqua Grunts.
Right. They start to have Carvanha here. Let's just quickly teach Thief since Carvanha are pretty frail and see how well it does.
Tumblr media
Well that's not good, since it also triggers Rough Skin, but I wouldn't say its that poor damage. We even get to Trace Rough Skin for this fight, and besides, its Carvanha. This is a Pokemon literally no one remembers. You probably couldn't tell me what the Pokemon even does. It's base stats? You don't know them.
If you've caught onto this being a set-up for an ironic joke, how dare you.
Tumblr media
Yeah so in my defense, I've literally never used Carvanha ever. It comes smack in the midgame of RSE and its showing in these games is pretty pathetic. I didn't know it had Bite at Level 1, and this changed Carvanha from incredibly annoying into a legitimate roadblock.
Let's discuss our options here: Option 1, we level up until we learn Calm Mind, and then we use Calm Mind and Thief to defeat the Carvanha. The problem with this strategy is that we definitely are going to need to grind on wild Pokemon in order to get the bulk we need to get past just this one Carvanha. Put a pin in that.
Option 2 is that we drain all of our PP and use Struggle. It's not pretty and takes a buttload of time but it does give us an unresisted damage dealing option. Route 110 even has some helpful Poochyena for us :)
Option 3 is...something I'm not sure many people remember about Pokemon Emerald, which is that Pokemon Emerald has Move Tutors scattered about. Most of the moves that don't require you to go to the Battle Frontier are pretty bad, but the tutor in Slateport has...
Tumblr media
Swagger might seem like an odd choice for a strategy, but if we take a minute to look at Carvanha's stats:
Tumblr media
Carvanha's sky high Attack stat and its absolutely ridiculously paper thin bulk make it a very prime Swagger target. Maybe if we're lucky we can even OHKO it. But Swagger by its nature is inconsistent: Swagger can miss, Confusion only has a 50% chance to work, and Carvanha does have a physical move (albeit: its Rage) to hit us with. We can use Double Team to try and shore up a bit of the luck, but it's a strategy that's prone to getting resets.
Tumblr media
Reset Count: 9
Let's get the Thief reset out of the way quickly. It's not pretty, Carvanha pretty easily cleans our clock.
Tumblr media
Next up is the Swagger strat and you might notice something: this Carvanha is a lower level. This is because this part of the game has two mandatory fights that come simultaneously with no time to heal in-between. We got past the first fight and the first Carvanha, easily OHKOd the Zubat with Confusion, and then lost to the second Carvanha. The Swagger strat has a lot of promise though.
Tumblr media
One self-inflicted Confusion hit is enough to deal an incredible amount of damage to the Carvanha. I want you to keep this damage range in mind for later when I get past this.
Reset Count: 10
Next up is Struggle, and...
Tumblr media
This is definitely not the play. Struggle at Level 20 is only a 2HKO to the Carvanha, and it triggers Rough Skin. If we could heal in-between the fights, this would maybe be an okay solution. But we likely won't OHKO the Zubat either, so this is a strategy that would require grinding.
Reset Count: 11
With these three on the table, I make the choice to go with a moveset of Confusion / Swagger / Double Team / Teleport.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reset Count: 13
Ultimately its a very luck-based strategy. We take a couple of resets, but it doesn't take us that long until we push through and win the fight.
Now I have to come clean. I said there were three options, but that was only due to the fact that I hypertunneled on a reasoning mistake. I thought that these strategies were mutually exclusive. The best way to get this past, imo, is with a moveset of Confusion / Swagger / Double Team / Thief. If you remember when we tried Thief, it was a 5HKO unboosted, but the damage it did was more than enough to finish off a Carvanha that had hit itself in Confusion. Ultimately, using Thief to finish off weakened Carvanha could have prevented all of these resets had I considered it early on. But I only realized after I started looking through my screenshots again. That's an actual mistake I made in routing.
Getting past this fight opens up Route 110 to explore, and we have the next Rival battle, right? We even pick up Calm Mind at Level 21, which is an extremely powerful boosting move that we'll make a ton of use out of.
Tumblr media
So I do win the fight, but I accidentally misjudged its trigger zone and went in without saving. That would have been pretty embarassing, just throwing more mistakes after each other. :V Calm Mind is just very good and the entire reason we do well.
Up the route however is two trainers who attempt to try and double battle you if you go to take the hidden Revive. One of them is the Pokemaniac who has a Lombre and a Nuzleaf, and unfortunately, while I do beat the Nuzleaf thanks to Swagger, I get paralyzed from Nature Power. I realized I was out of Paralyze Heals and I didn't want to use my Cheri Berries for that purpose since they're valuable as held items, so I go to make my way back to the Pokemon Center in Slateport. At this point I've replaced Teleport with Calm Mind, since I leveled up on the first Carvanha and needed Double Team for the second. So what happens?
Tumblr media
I get stopped by a trainer that I had previously avoided, and my Ralts was both weakened and paralyzed, so the Aron really easily KOs it.
Reset Count: 14
This is a phenomenon I call "post-bottleneck play", where you get past a really tough obstacle and you're feeling good and off the hook, and as a result your play gets really sloppy. Big throwing good money after bad money here. We avoid making the same mistake in the future and arrive in Mauville City.
At this point I begin to think about what I want to do about Watson.
Tumblr media
I was the most concerned about his Magneton, which is a Pokemon that has the potential to hard stonewall runs. It's bulky, incredibly strong, and loves to status you with Thunder Wave. It's one of those Speed control AI quirks, so while it's very predictable, it also makes Magneton extremely annoying.
I'm pretty confident that Confusion isn't a move that's going to be cutting it, so I decide to take the extra EXP in Watson's Gym and learn Psychic, replacing Double Team. This move has honestly really lived past its usefulness, and its extra bad against Watson since all of his Pokemon know Shock Wave.
The plan is simple. I'm going to set-up with Calm Mind, preferably once, and use Psychic to OHKO the Voltorb and the Electrike. The Magneton will likely be a 2HKO, and since it almost always uses Thunder Wave Turn 1, I can equip a Cheri Berry to recover from paralysis and get by scott free. Then I will hopefully also 2HKO the Manectric before it KOes me.
I run into a problem pretty quickly though.
Tumblr media
Voltorb is actually faster than me at this level, so it can do a lot of damage with Spark and Shock Wave.
Reset Count: 15
Tumblr media
An additional really frustrating complication is that it can damage me with Spark or Shock Wave, and then Turn 2 just decide to use Self-Destruct to KO Ralts. Out of all the Pokemon in the world I would ever expect to give me trouble, Voltorb was not it.
Reset Count: 16
I decide to do a little bit of optional trainer battles to the East to get up to Level 28 and try again. At this point it's a good time to bring up how the damage formula works briefly. Higher level Pokemon do more damage, but because of rounding errors thanks to Pokemon always truncating the decimal, the only levels you notice that level based damage boost are ones ending in 0, 3, 5, and 8, so when you're training to get past a powerful fight, these are the levels you want to aim for by default.
Tumblr media
This time thanks to a lucky critical hit on the Magneton, we're able to get all the way to the Manectric, but it just KOes us with Quick Attack since we're at low HP.
Reset Count: 17
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, as you can see from this earlier attempt, the Voltorb is just brutal. We need to set-up on it, but that allows it to do a ton of damage, and we're not getting past this fight on 25 HP. This is also ignoring that Static can paralyze you and eat your Cheri Berry, which is almost always another reset point.
With this in mind, it's time to train up to Level 30. If I was evolving my Ralts this playthrough, Gardevoir would easily handle this gym. Alas.
Tumblr media
Also if you were worried about the lack of sloppy play, don't worry, we take a reset on Cycling Road to some really bad paralysis luck. 8)
Reset Count: 18
After getting to Level 30, we return to Watson. At this point I had high hopes because of Calm Mind, I was sure that the extra grinding would allow us to succeed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the game responds by handing me not one, but two resets caused by critical hit Sparks, which is really aggrevating. These type of resets suck because they don't really give you much information, they're just the game trolling you.
Reset Count: 20
Tumblr media
This reset highlights what may be the actual most frustrating part of this fight though. If the Voltorb decides to start with Selfdestruct, and you try to use Calm Mind, Selfdestruct ends the turn after its used, and you lose your Calm Mind. It's really, really frustrating.
Reset Count: 21
Tumblr media
Sometimes you get past the Voltorb with so little HP you know the fight can't be won anyways. This was a fight where I attempted a different strategy of using Psychic instead of trying to set-up on the Voltorb, and at Level 30, Psychic does not even OHKO. It's tragic.
Reset Count: 22
Tumblr media
This was the farthest I got with Level 30: I found out that at +1, Psychic is not a 2HKO against the Magneton, and I'm not exactly finding the wiggle room for a second Calm Mind. It's time to take a minute and re-strategize, because this isn't working.
Reset Count: 23
Tumblr media
No this strategy won't include you Imprison! Begone from my movepool!
Tumblr media
Let's take a moment to actually learn what Voltorb's Speed stat is, shamelessly stolen from a Scott's Thoughts video (although this data exists elsewhere). 49 Speed would be a benchmark most reasonable Pokemon could easily hit with a Speed boosting nature, but Ralts is not most reasonable Pokemon. At level 30, we have 45 Speed, so we're going to need at least 2 levels I think to outspeed the Voltorb, and that's if we get a bit lucky with our Speed growth.
While there is maybe some discussion to be had about checking if the Voltorb is a roll with Psychic at Level 30, the simple matter is that Voltorb outspeeding us just introduces too much volatility. It can paralyze us with Spark or use Self-Destruct and do ridiculous amounts of damage, or it can even just crit us and do enough damage we won't have the HP to make it through the fight.
Tumblr media
After absorbing the souls of every available trainer to this point, we hit level 32 and have 49 Speed. It's that blessed Slow growth rate coming back to haunt us yet again :D
We're going to need to grind up an additional level, a speed tie might work but I really want the damage rounding threshold that Level 33 provides just to make absolutely sure we don't miss OHKOing the Voltorb. Since we beat the Winstrate Family, we have access to the Macho Brace, so it's time to start thinking a little bit about of EVs.
....or well, it would be. But as a result of this project I've learned that tumblr posts have an image limit! So next time!

gonna try to start posting about my Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke I mentioned earlier
it's actually going decently! I'm having fun with it, despite a couple deaths that affected me
here's the rules I'm following, the rest will be under the cut (and future posts will be tagged with #AsciiMon Alpha)
Tumblr media
So here I am, starting an Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke. it's the easiest game to Nuzlocke according to the internet, so what's the worst that could happen :)
he didn't know what would happen later on in the run
Tumblr media
so I got my Mudkip, named him Pringle, and the run officially started! ...and then I realized I didn't get pokeballs until later, so I had to backtrack a bit when I did (apologies for not having many screenshots from Early Run)
first encounter that wasn't my starter was a Zigzagoon! I named him Utz, like the chip company. it goes with Pringle, ok
Tumblr media
this is also around the time I created The Graves for my dead Pokemon to go into. Surely nobody major would end up there, right? RIGHT!?
eventually on Route 102, I got a Poochyena that I creatively named Shadow. "ooh, what a nice early game encounter!" I thought, before I immediately encountered a Ralts that I could no longer get because Nuzlocke Rules.
back on track, Route 103 gave me Bloop the Wingull! a Pokemon I would come to rely on later in the run
then I met Wally, and saw him get his Ralts, still salty that I didn't have one myself.
after knocking out Rival May, Route 104 got me Pollen The Wurmple, which I was super happy about! Pollen grew to be another pokemon I'd rely on for kills
and then I entered Petalburg Woods, and kept getting dupes for a solid 5 minutes. I kept searching, briefly interrupted by the plot, until I finally found Onion the Slakoth. I never used her. I did so much searching that Pollen actually evolved into Cascoon lmao
Tumblr media
(she's still rotting in my boxes)
Route 116's encounter was a Whismur, a find I was super happy about! ...until I immediately killed it trying to lower its health. BUT WAIT, IN RUSTURF TUNNEL, I ENCOUNTERED ANOTHER WHISMUR. AND IT'S TECHNICALLY NOT DUPE CLAUSE BECAUSE I KILLED THE LAST ONE. also I felt nice to myself, so I caught him immediately and named him Xilent (after an EDM artist I like). Xilent went on to also be nicknamed "The Fucking GOAT" because he would tank a lot of hits for me
"this is a really nice team I've got going on! surely we won't lose anyone soon-"
Tumblr media
and then Shadow died to a random trainer. our first death of the run (tbh I didn't really feel anything beyond "WELL THEN...")
Tumblr media
"BUT SURELY NOBODY IMPORTANT WILL DIE LATER!" those are special surprise words that'll help us later!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pringle evolved into Marshtomp, and it was time for Roxxane, the first gym of many! to be honest, very clean sweep. I just ran in with Pringle and Xilent, and the first badge was ours with no deaths
took Brawly down easily too, and it was off to Granite Cave to meet up with Steven. in there, I encountered an Abra that I immediately threw a pokeball at... and then it teleported away, making me lose any future encounters
onto Route 110, that encounter was caught! welcome NomNom the Gulpin to our team! surely with him on the team, we can take down the random Team Aqua Grunt encounter coming up, right!? They have a Carvanha, but I'll tank it with Xilent!
...I think this screenshot from when I was live-texting my run sums this up perfectly
Tumblr media
YUP. XILENT TANKED A HIT, I TRIED TO HEAL, AND THEN HE DIED RIGHT AFTER. MY SECOND DEATH OF THE ENTIRE RUN, AND IT FUCKING HURT. MY FAVORITE TEAM MEMBER, JUST GONE FROM A GRUNT BATTLE.
getting forcefully sidetracked by Lisia, I got a Cosplay Pikachu that I named Purin. honestly a great free pokemon to get, seeing as she's Level 20 and has three Electric moves
I thought my run was going great! and then May asked to fight me. this fight... oh my god this fight... it almost killed the run.
I lead in with Pollen the Beautifly, "he has Absorb and an Oran Berry! surely he'll survive this fight-" he tanked a Rollout from May's Wailmer, living on 15/51 HP. me, being stupid, thought "NAH, HE'LL LIVE! Pollen, use Absorb!" ...Wailmer got to attack first, and used Rollout again, killing Pollen. my first full evo, and third death of the run. another death that really hurt; I wanted Wurmple for so long, only to see him die at his final evo TO A WAILMER SPAMMING ROLLOUT.
"s-surely Bloop the Wingull can carry the rest of the match!" Bloop got one-shotted by the same move that killed Pollen. only four pokemon left, and I was losing hope. I brought out Pringle as a last ditch effort, and he managed to win the battle. we beat May, but with two deaths that really hurt.
I got Mini the Maril on Route 117, but that encounter wasn't enough to help me cope with the loss of Pollen and Bloop
and that's where I stopped playing for the day. food was coming, and it was getting late.
Tumblr media
the current team is looking good though! I'm amazed that I've kept Utz the Zigzagoon for this long. the rest of my team is pretty good too, mainly NomNom the Gulpin and Purin the Pikachu
I'll probably continue playing when I get home. wish me luck on the run!

So I realized I've never done an about post in all the time I've been here. Not that I'm here often, but I should have something to tell everyone who I am. I'm Alexander, a traveling trainer for now, working on joining the ranks of the elite four.
I've specialized in dark type pokemon all my life. I grew up in Fortree city, same as my dad, and caught my partner Poocheyena when I was seven. I started my journey officially at ten, but I'd been battling with my friends for years at that point, so I was pretty good already. In the hoenn League, I also met my Absol, as well as a Nuzleaf and Carvanha. After finishing the Hoenn league when I was eleven I donated Shiftry and Sharpedo to a rental battle program. I kind of regret it now, I do miss them, but I was initially planning on slowing down and relaxing when I went back to my family.
When I was 13, I moved with my parents to Unova, where my mom's originally from. I decided to try the gym challenge there, too, and I ended up catching a Deino and Pawniard along the way. It took a while, the gym leaders were definitely holding back less since I'd already finished one gym challenge, but I cleared the unovan league as well.
I turned sixteen not long after and decided to go out and see more of the world. I ended up in Sinnoh, where I caught my Spiritomb, and that's been my party ever since. I'm 25 now, almost ten years later and I'm still trying to join the ranks of the elite four.
Answers to common questions:
I've never been in a fight with a terrorist organization. Team Aqua and team magma were arrested before my Hoenn journey, and Team plasma was disbanded before I arrived in Unova. I've never run into one anywhere else either miraculously. I'm starting to think beating one is a requirement to joining the elite four.
I'm a dark type trainer because I like dark types, they're cool. You'd think Sydney would be my inspiration to be a dark trainer, but it was actually Karen. I'd watch her battles on TV growing up, and she was always so cool. That's probably why I want to be in the elite four as well.
No, you cannot pet Mightyena. He's skittish around new people and will bite when startled. And not just bite, he uses crunch. He's really quite friendly but you have to respect him.
I'm able to afford being a wandering trainer by spending a lot of time foraging and making money in exhibition battles. I've got a team of strong, well-trained pokemon and know how to put on a show, so I can make enough to take care of us when we're not out in the wilderness.
I kept Mightyena and Absol after my Hoenn League because I knew I'd be able to take care of them, and they are my closest partners. I'd be less of myself without them.

8/29 Part 2: The 5th Team Member
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that I had Mawile I had four members of my core team: Mega (Blaziken), Dill (Flygon), Soul (Absol), and Mawly (Mawile). I entertained the idea of Tropius being part of the final but I would rather swap him for Salamence as my fly user. But Bagon is very late game so I needed him in the mean time. Maril has been my surfer but I was waiting to run into a Wailmer to switch out.
I finally got sick of Maril and was ready to actively hunt Wailmer, which was pretty tough since I only had a Good Rod and I wanted to hunt it in Team Magma’s Hideout which is a 5% chance! But eventually got one and was surprised to see it got a unique surf model! This made me wonder what other unique surf models were there. There’s only three: Wailmur, Sharpedo, and Kyogre. Wailmur just goes normal speed but Sharpedo and Kyogre got 2x and 1.5x respectively. I thought that was cool but Sharpedo and Kyogre are both exclusives in the same game so that’s kind of weird that 2/3 unique surf models are only in Sapphire. And there was my mistake… The whole game I’ve assumed that Carvanha and Sharpedo are exclusive to Sapphire since they are the predominate Pokémon of Team Aqua. But both the Numel and Carvanha line are available in both games!! What a fool again for not looking stuff up!!
This really changed things for me since I’ve always loved Sharpedo and wanted to use one. I love Wailord too but was disappointed to see that it does not get a unique surf model so when Wailmur evolves, it will go back to being the generic one. This ultimately pushed me to catch a Carvanha and swap it out for Wailmur.
So my 5th team member slot has been taken and the role of surfer has been filled by Sharon the Sharpedo!
Tumblr media
Also here are just some pics of me sight seeing in Hoen!
Sea Mawville (left) and Masdeep Space Center (right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh and I found Absolite in the Safari Zone which I could only get with the Acrobike! So tedious!
Tumblr media
Also the Triathlete has a second style of sprite and illustration! The swimmer variant! Makes sense now why it was called Triathlete rather than cyclist. That means there must be one more which is the runner version!

Kelly's Hoenn Pokémon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of Kelly's pokémon on Hoenn region.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ken, the sharpedo (male♂)
Tumblr media
Moves set: Crunch, Ice Fang, Psychic Fang, Tackle, Take Down, Scald, Water Gun, Leer, Skull Bash, Aqua Jet.
Ability: Rough Skin
Kelly was starting her journey in Hoenn and had decided to explore the Dewfort city first;
During her explorations shefelt the feelings of pain and fear of some pokémon;
Because she loved pokémon so much, she couldn't ignore a pokémon in danger and let her instincts and empathetic powers guide her;
This led her to a remote and isolated coast of the city, finding a wounded Carvanha trapped in the remains of a fishing net;
Impulsively Kelly ran to the pokémon that, when feeling her strange presence, tried to attack her with scald;
But the attack luckily fails as Seiji the Samurrot broke out of his Poké Ball intercepting the attack with Hydro Pump;
Calming her partner, she then kept a safe distance so as not to scare the pokémon anymore;
That Carvanha was injured and vulnerable, it would be normal for a injuried pokémon to try to attack to defend itself;
Kelly started talking to the pokémon, trying to gain its trust in order to help it;
She tried to do it quickly, because she needed to see the state of the wounds and that sincere concern made Carvanha lower its guard and allow him to help her;
Carefully she removed the nets, but the wounds were more serious than she expected and even giving first aid she ran to the pokémon center of the city;
There the carvanha received due treatment;
During the last days of recovery, Kelly was talking to Nurse Joy to find out how the pokémon was doing;
When Nurse Joy mentioned that the male carvanha was recovering fast and could soon be released back into the wild something unexpected happened,
Carvanha simply jumped out of the tank where its was being held for treatment and grabbed a large portion of Kelly's long hair;
Its large and powerful jaws were firmly in its grip, consequently pulling the trainer's hair she screamed in pain and the pokémon's weight did nothing to help with the pain;
It was necessary for Seiji, her partner and squire, to intervene and cut Kelly's hair to help the poor girl;
But Carvanha's persistence got the better of him and he immediately lunged again, bringing Kelly down hard in a powerful tackle and snapping up her left leg;
It was a few minutes of panic with Seiji trying to make that pokémon let go of his trainer and best friend, until it grabbed Kelly's head;
Seiji wouldn't be reckless and attack his trainer with the wild Pokemon holding tightly to her head;
In the midst of the situation, Kelly wondered what she would do to make him release her, until the adrenaline from the fright subsided a bit she noticed that Carvanha was holding on tight, but not enough to make it hurt and he was taking care that his fangs didn't get her hurt;
Feeling the pokémon's feelings, she realized something, he wanted to continue with her and that she was his trainer;
Questioning the pokémon to be sure, she received a happy quip;
Laughing at the unusual situation and even joking that it was Carvanha who cautgh her before getting a vacant Poké Ball to make it official on their team and receiving the name “Ken” which means strong and healthy that reflected the energetic and fierce personality of the pokémon.

Kelly had arrived in the vicinity of Fallarbor Town, as she was very curious about Meteor Falls;
She was just being the little nerd that she is, always curious to learn more about Hoenn's lore;
But there was another reason for her to be there: There would be a shower of shooting stars along with a meteor that returned to the planet's atmosphere becoming visible every 93 years;
She really wanted to witness a rare and special moment with her pokémon and with her childhood friends: Ingo, Emmet and Elesa with whom she was reunited in Hoenn;
Really mother nature is amazing and it was a breathtaking show;
Already out of sight, a piece of the meteor fragmented and entered the earth's atmosphere, crashing in some very remote area of Meteor Falls;
In the meteor shard was a giant crystalline gem;
The problem is that there were people aware of this gem and its true nature, silently carrying it and lurking in the shadows ready to attack;
The next day, after breaking their camp, they proceeded to the city;
They had the day having fun, even battling other trainers or having some sparring with each other to hone their skills;
Everything was going well, but that was until remaining unaware of what was going to happen a group of Team Rocket had set up a base of operations in meteor falls to test yet another of their hideous inventions;
The moment they turned on that strange machine, that's when it all started…
Meanwhile in the city, Emmet and Kelly were battling each other in a sparring to train until the moment when Kelly's empathic powers would act;
She could feel the immense pain coursing through her body, it felt like she was being torn apart from the inside out;
Kelly was overwhelmed with all the intense and violently confused emotions;
The emotions were so intense that she could physically feel the pain of whatever pokemon it was and that had never happened before;
Emotions were so intense that at some point she simply fainted;
Hours passed since the incident, at that point friends of hers had already taken her to the hospital and after a battery of tests, nothing wrong was found and it was only assumed that it was a hypoglycemic event due to Kelly's history of anemia;
As it was nothing serious and nothing was pointed out during the exams, then some vitamins would be prescribed and she was discharged;
Being questioned by Ingo, Kelly explained what she felt, that immense pain that came from some pokémon in Meteor Falls and the way she heard the voice of this pokémon asking for help was terrifying;
As expected, Kelly decided to go after the source and help whoever that pokémon was, ignoring all the events that brought her to the hospital;
But Kelly is stubborn and would never deny help to anyone who needed it, not that her three friends would do the same and remain resolute in contacting Officer Jenny before heading down the path;
Coincidentally, there were rumors that an evil organization was hunting powerful Pokémon in the Hoenn region;
Following Kelly's lead, they reached the area where the team rocket group was assembled in the operations center and appeared to be making some settings on a strange machine with an antenna facing the sky;
There was something visible, a chamber where a crystal as big as a handball rested;
Kelly can feel the vital energy and emotions coming from that crystal, just as she heard the pokémon's plea by telepathy and warned her friends and the authorities what the crystal was;
The crystal in Team Rocket's machine was actually the core of a dormant Deoxys and was using it as a power source for a new weapon to capture another Legendary Pokemon;
Somehow the machine was able to keep deoxys trapped in a suspended state of animation while at the same time drawing out its life energy;
To say that she was horrified by Team Rocket's ruthlessness was an understatement;
Before any of they could do something the machine was activated and again Kelly was put through that hellish suffering;
It was extremely painful for the pokémon and Kelly could feel its pain, her empathy allowed her to feel the anguish of an injured pokémon, but she had never reached that level where she physically felt its pain;
But this time it had been much more intense, not knowing if it was because the pokémon was getting weaker or maybe because of the proximity between them;
They already had plans to intervene, but now it was a huge urgency for Kelly's three friends;
The battle was intense and difficult, unfortunately the dispute was one-sided with the malefactors remaining in the upper hand;
In the middle of the battle and barely able to stand up due to the pain, she could even hear the pokémon's voice asking for help as the pokémon agonized in pain;
Honestly, the fight seemed to be lost, until the moment that the legendary pokémon that Team Rocket wanted to have appeared;
But the said pokémon wasn't just anyone, its was one that Isabel and Kelly had befriended years ago and now it would be here for the young girl who had helped it that weary night.

Amaya, the [shiny] rayquaza (gender unknown)

Move set: Dragon Ascent, Dragon Dance, Extreme Speed, V-create, Earthquake, Draco Meteor, Surf, Defog, Extreme Speed.
Ability: Air Lock (normal), Delta Stream (Mega evolved)
Amaya is a Pokémon that Isabel encountered during the first few years since she was legally granted custody of Kelly;
Isabel had prepared a family vacation bringing Kelly along for the Gonçalves family's traditional star gaze in Meteor Falls, unfortunately Isabel's parents couldn't make it;
During a shower of shooting stars, a meteor had entered the atmosphere and collided with the earth;
But it simply wasn't a meteor, because little Kelly, three years old at the time, felt the anguish of a pokémon and ran after it with her mother on her heels;
When they arrived at the crash site, it wasn't a meteor but a pokémon!
It was a shiny Rayquaza, greatly weakened from being sick for some time and even a legendary has its weaknesses;
As a Pokemon therapist, Isabel wouldn't ignore a Pokemon in need and even more so seeing her daughter being so distraught due to her empathetic abilities;
Bringing some of her pokémon with her both to protect them and to help with the treatment;
Obviously the legendary became skittish in their presence and attacked in an attempt to defend himself, only for its powers to be overwhelmed by Aki the entei;
Despite the difficulties and with the help of Kelly's empath gifts, Isabel managed to gain the trust of the other legendary and Isabel was able to treat its injuries;
During the entire treatment process, Isabel nicknamed the rayquaza “Amaya” and although it was a female name and many Legendaries had an unknown gender, the human could not help but compare the Pokémon to the beauty of a starry sky;
It took a few days and a lot of work, but luckily it recovered and finally returned to were it belong;
And the moment of reunion was during the events of Team Rocket using the core of a deoxys and its vital energy to attract Rayquaza making it think that something had invaded its territory;
Even they met years ago that pokémon recognized Kelly, a pokémon never forgets something important like in this case the human girl who is one of its saviors;
To say that Amaya rained hell on Team Rocket doesn't quite describe the upheaval and humiliating annihilation they suffered, not even the superiors managed to escape;
With the machine destroyed and the core of the deoxys freed from the petty hands of the villains, the case came to an end, but not without everyone freaking out when they saw Kelly fainting after being exhausted from all that pain she shared with the DNA pokémon;
After all the mess and Kelly recovered days later becoming the legal guardian of the deoxys core, Amaya appeared to her and her three friends when they were leaving town;
Amaya wanted to go with Kelly leaving the girl stunned who tried to refuse because she didn't want to force a legendary to stay with her;
But her words fell on deaf ears when the pokémon simply enveloped her with its long body, refusing to take no for an answer and keeping its grip firm on the panicked girl trying to break free;
Emmet even joke about how jealous he was that she got not only one legendary, but also a mythical in one row;
Elesa then joined the mockery saying that it was the opposite, it was the legendaries who caught her friend;
Even Ingo joined in, laughing at the situation and his brother and friend's jokes;
Defeated, Kelly just accepted the fact that the pokémon wasn't taking no for an answer and made Amaya another pokémon on her team in the Hoenn region.

Alice, the Altaria (female♀)
Tumblr media
Moves set: Dragon Dance, Dragon Rush, Return, Facade, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Roost, Heal Bell, Hyper Voice, Cotton Guard
Ability: Natural Cure
At the time that Kelly found the pokémon, Alice was a small swablu living in a pokémon sanctuary and that simply landed on the young trainer's head;
It could be said that the pokémon was a “nest Freak” and had the strange habit of landing on the head of any living being such as pokémon and people;
No matter what they tried, the little one never gave up her “perch”;
Not that Kelly minded, unless the little swablu was squeezing too tight and was hurting the trainer's scalp;
And well, Kelly has a soft spot for fluffy and cute things so she just indulged the pokemon's behavior;
Swablu left her “perch” on Kelly's head when it was time for the young trainer to continue on her journey;
What no one expected is that the pokémon followed her to the next city and when she saw Kelly the pokémon swooped down on her as she was having a picnic with Elesa, Ingo and Emmet;
Comically the impact knocked Kelly out while her three friends panicked;
A few minutes later Kelly woke up with a swablu clinging to her, the two soft wings wrapped around her neck in an iron grip and it wasn't for lack of Emmet trying to rip the pokémon away from her after seeing his friend knocked out;
Knowing that the pokémon was the same one from the pokémon sanctuary and had followed them here and seeing she didn't want to let go of her, Kelly just asked if she wanted to join her journey in Hoenn and the pokémon agreed.

Isabel “Shelly” Sánchez, Bisexual/Aromantic, 5′2″
creative, persistent, leader, pigheaded, merciless, egotistic
In her younger years, Shelly worked as a sailor out of her hometown’s port. After joining Team Aqua she dropped most of her mannerisms as a sailor (though if she isn’t mindful of it she’ll slip back into it.) Entirely loyal to Archie and his goals. Cares more for the grunts than she lets on. Broskies with Matt.
After Archie dissolved Team Aqua, Shelly returned to life on the open sea. She soon amassed a new crew and took to raiding ships. Her activities were restricted to the ocean, seeming to have given up life on land all together. (on newer tides verse)
Team
(also roleplayable in both poké and gijinka form!)
{MIGHTYENA} Shelly’s long-term constant companion. The two are of one mind, enough so that superstition around the base claims they read each other’s thoughts.
{WALREIN} Never far from hand when Shelly leaves home base. Walrein is the pirate’s powerhouse.
{CARVANHA} None of the Carvanha seen with Shelly are her Pokémon. She takes it upon herself to individually train the Carvanha given out to Aqua grunts.
{POPPLIO} (on newer tides) Popplio’s family group was lost to poachers. Shelly’s ship arrived in time to save the youngling. As it was too young to survive on its own, Shelly brought it back with her.
{ZUBAT} (on newer tides) One of the many Zubat that inhabited the cavern Shelly uses as  base. It took up residence in Shelly’s cabin, and she never chased it out.
