There are three presidential candidates: Recep Tayyip Erdogan (AK Party), Kemal Kilicdaroglu (CHP), and Sinan Ogan (ATA).
Any candidate who can secure more than half the presidential vote on May 14 will be the winner. If no candidate can secure that, there will be a second runoff between the two top contenders two weeks later.
Voting has now ended in Turkey’s elections as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan faces the biggest political challenge of his two-decade rule. His main rival is opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. More than 64 million people were eligible to vote to elect a president and parliament for a five-year term.
Very good article: read more.

Who is Ekrem Imamoglu, the Turkish mayor who could challenge Erdogan? (Reuters)
ISTANBUL, April 1 (Reuters) - Newly re-elected Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has emerged as the main challenger to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's reign. But in some ways, he is following in the footsteps of the Turkish leader who ran the city in the 1990s.
Aside from having led the country's biggest city, both have family roots in the eastern Black Sea region and both their political careers have been impeded by Turkey's courts. In their youth, both were keen footballers too.
After clinching a resounding victory and retaining his post in Sunday's mayoral elections, Imamoglu, 53, is now a potential future president in the view of many analysts.
Voters sent a message directly to Erdogan, Imamoglu said after the election. "Those who do not understand the nation's message will eventually lose".
But while they share a strong ability to appeal to voters, they diverge when it comes to politics. Imamoglu, an affable former businessman, himself has said: "our ideas are largely opposite".

Turkey stopped all trade with Israel as of Thursday, according to two Turkish officials familiar with the matter, adding to already high-running tensions between the once-close allies over the war in Gaza. The move expands last month’s restriction on some Turkish exports to Israel, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan steps up criticism of the Jewish state and tries to consolidate support among conservative voters at home.
Trade between the 2 countries was worth $6.8 billion in 2023.

SECCADE
Yine siyasi tarihimizde çok uzağa gitmeye gerek kalmadan sayın Erdoğan bir seçim mitinginde eline kutsal kitabımız olan Kuran-ı Kerim ‘i  sallayarak oy istemesi AKP seçmeni tarafından normal karşılanırken;
Geçtiğimiz günlerde Diyanet İşleri Başkanı Ali Erbaş ve Cumhurbaşkanı sayın Erdoğan bir camiye ayakkabı ile girince muhafazakar seçmenin kırmızı çizgisi olanı “ kutsallık”  hiçe sayılırken ve bununla ilgili özür bile  dilememeleri son derece vahim ise;

We do not agree to Sweden joining NATO
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made it clear that Sweden, which is trying to become a member of the NATO alliance, will not have its support. He made these comments against the backdrop of recent anti-Islam protests in Stockholm.Erdoğan blames protester Ramses Paludan for burning a copy of the Holy Quran. It is insulting to everyone including Muslims. Duyyabatta said that the Swedish authorities allowed the protests outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. He also condemned the display of Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) flags in that country. PKK is considered a terrorist group in Turkey.

Turkey's resurgent opposition trounces Erdogan in pivotal local elections (Reuters)
ISTANBUL, March 31 (Reuters) - Turks dealt President Tayyip Erdogan and his party their biggest electoral blow on Sunday in a nationwide local vote that reasserted the opposition as a political force and reinforced Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu as the president's chief rival.
With most of the votes counted, Imamoglu led by 10 percentage points in the mayoral race in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, while his Republican People's Party (CHP) retained Ankara and gained 15 other mayoral seats in cities nationwide.
It marked the worst defeat for Erdogan and his AK Party (AKP) in their more than two decades in power, and could signal a change in the country's divided political landscape. Erdogan called it a "turning point" in a post-midnight address.
He and the AKP fared worse than opinion polls predicted due to soaring inflation, dissatisfied Islamist voters and, in Istanbul, Imamoglu's appeal beyond the CHP's secular base, analysts said.
"Those who do not understand the nation's message will eventually lose," Imamoglu, 53, told thousands of jubilant supporters late on Sunday, some of them chanting for Erdogan to resign.

🚨 The Turkish Foreign Ministry, 6 months into the genocide in Gaza, has taken the decision to halt all exports to the zionist entity until a ceasefire is enacted in Gaza and increased aid is allowed in.
The restrictions will begin today, affecting 54 products, including construction materials and equipment. This move comes in response to the zionist entity's prevention of Turkish aid from reaching Gaza via air drops.
While the move is a welcome one, it should be noted that trade between the zionist entity and Turkiye skyrocketed after October 7th, to the tune of over $5 billion.
The entity sources the majority of its steel and cement from Turkiye, and over 500 Turkish ships arrived in the entity since October 7th. Dozens in Turkiye have been arrested for protesting this egregious normalization, while leadership displays superficial sympathy with the Palestinian plight.
Turkiye has also joined South Africa's genocide case against the entity in the International Court of Justice.
