#Marvel #Marvel comics #Marvel 616 #Moon Knight vol. 9 #Moon Knight 2021 #Moon Knight comics #Moon Knight #Marc Spector #Taskmaster #Anthony Masters #GAH I love these pages so much; there’s so much to unpack #to start there’s the bullet metaphor #first off it continues in the vein (that Marc occasionally buys into as well) of Marc being more weapon than man #and a point I find interesting that they kind of don’t bring up is that a bullet by itself is not lethal #but instead needs a firearm to jettison it into a lethal velocity #paralleling first Khonshu’s control over the direction over Marc’s life and then Marc taking up that mission on his own terms #and then there’s that last bit tying back into the first time we saw Taskmaster and Moon Knight tangle: #that Marc will take any amount of (often extensive) damage to achieve his goal #but also I love the contrast between the dialogue boxes and what’s actually happening on-panel #you’ve got Taskmaster saying “he’s nothing more than a weapon and a particularly savage one at that” #all while Marc is rather tenderly (for him) rescuing people #love that #wish it wasn’t the case that Marc would probably agree with Taskmaster’s assessment #but I love seeing Marc saving people nonetheless

So I was curious about (BBC) Ghosts from seeing gifs on tumblr (and being familiar with some of the actors from Horrible Histories videos). Getting to see more of the actors via taskmaster, and it being Spooky season, I watched the first season last night. I had intended to just watch a few episodes but hey, who could have guessed, it turned out the show was very engaging! I'll be staying out of the tag to avoid spoilers, but my thoughts on season 1 so far:

-I went in expecting Thomas to be my favorite (hello reawakened celebrity crush on Mathew Baynton), I do love a dramatic poet dandy. But it's so hard to say whether he's my favorite because I ended up really getting attached to a lot of characters, especially:

-Robin! I did not expect the prehistoric ghost to be one of my faves. Having the caveman be, in some ways, the intellectual character (loves chess) is a great level-one subversion. But what I like even more is that they lean into the fact that he's been the oldest to give him some of the best emotional intelligence and experience processing time and grief.

-The captain! Oh goodness I hope in future seasons he gets to have his gay awakening and figure all that out, it's so sweet and earnest.

-Earnest in general is a good word for all of the characters. Mary's genuine helpfulness and Kitty's eager sweetness and Pat's Soft Dad Energy.

-I swear this show was written for the bisexual eye. There are several gay/bi characters, the jokes are played in parallel (Thomas finding Allison attractive and the Captain finding Mike attractive), and some of the more "fan-service-y" scenes are things like Mike confidently running around the house naked.

-Some of the miscommunication between Mike and Allison is frustrating. I get that it's somewhat necessary/a staple of the sitcom genre but "I accidentally broke a thing you liked and was too embarrassed to say so/tried to fix it" is a sitcom miscommunication. "I took out massive loans while you were in a coma" is a bit much.

-I laughed out loud at several of the jokes, whether the bigger ones (like Thomas excitedly kicking Humphrey's head) or small quips and bits of banter.

"missing stitch and flowers on a headstone" - lizzie's last season base being the fairy fort which burned down because of one of pearl's closest allies

"but i will crawl like a sinner to be at your feet" - girlie was desperate for lizzie's heart

"should God or the devil ever ask for me" - she was so desperate because it was a task. the taskmaster can be interpreted as a figure for good or bad

"take my word but keep the upper hand" - lizzie never attacking pearl even if she was red because she protected her the first night

"i know you, you're the daughter of a lonely man" - sl lizzie and dl pearl parallels, pearl being able to sympathize with her situation

"so let my hope grow cold and atrophy, 'cause there's no more room in your heart for me" - lizzie re-rolling for a hard task and when pearl doesn't work with her plan (along with everyone else) she shuts them out

"come my dear and drink while the water's still cold" - pearl trusting lizzie even after she's red

"i am naught but a scar upon your breastbone" - granted, this is more headcanon than canon, but i feel lizzie was much more important to pearl than pearl was to lizie

"so kiss me quick, steal every secret i keep. you can have anything you want from me" - pearl practically said this in her ep when she had to help the red names

do you have any favorite gif sets of yours from throughout the years?

i mean not really non they're all shit 🧍‍♀️

there are, i would say, three reasons people make gifs: to participate in the community, to keep a visual archive of their hobbies, and for the satisfaction of gifs coming out super prettily and lovely to the eyes. when it comes to giffing this kind of tv content, it's easy to nail the first two but the third? half of the shows are low quality "hd" ripped from youtube, not 1080p hdtv blah blah, so it's so hard to make anything that actually, truly looks spectacular, so you have to have other motivations apart from the satisfaction of decent photoshop skills to keep going (and i only became about 40% decent maybe 5 minutes ago anyways) >.<

that's why anything i'd say i like is probably not even a standout set but just something that's in really lovely quality, like this?

i always love this one of david and love how much everyone else loves this one from my fave series of taskmaster (everyone also seemed to like the latest sean set which was very kind)

from recently? kayvan turned out sexy (ugh speaking of handsome devils i always love f.05 alan) and also the s16e01 sue set hahahaha she is sooo funnyyyy

often the ideas, parallels, throwbacks, whatever i come up with are pretty good but the gifs themselves aren't anything special or even decent at all — which is why sometimes i remake the same moments a couple times over, thinking i'll immortalise it better each time (and never really do lol)

i'm glad you guys accept 1) that i'm not a world class gif maker and 2) we're dealing with so much low quality video that it wouldn't matter either way ↁ_ↁ
