Keyboard Puffer Jacket by Liminal
Mai gets this at a thrift shop as a gift for Lin. She has good intentions, mostly. It's Christmas.
Naru has to go into his office to howl in laughter for the first time in his life.
Lin tries to convince his shiki to destroy it but they're just confused.
Takigawa and Ayako walk in and are wondering if a bird got into Naru's office or something until they see Lin holding the jacket with one hand and making odd waving motions at the air.
Madoka, when texted a picture of the thing by Yasuhara, threatens him with blackmail if he tries to get rid of it.

I know this is the exact inverse of the post I made a little while ago but my cousin informed me that the opposite would also work perfectly and I couldn’t agree more.
So again, here’s my two cents on their relationship.

My Top YasuBou moments
Okay so there are the obvious flirty moments that get ~no homo'd~ in canon, and the Those Two Guys moments where they're just riffing on each other, but a lot of my favorite moments between them are the ones that hint at something more serious, the trust and admiration between them, so without further ado--
Tumblr media
right from the beginning!! this Very Serious moment, and everything hinges on the premise that he cares for Yasuhara. not saying it's romantic right from the start, but that's some quick bonding...
Tumblr media
(he's begging)
Tumblr media
"it was really, really difficult" but he did it, he left a whole-ass job behind because Bou-san relies on him
Tumblr media
listen I also love the panels before and after this--Bou-san making light of his injuries at first to avoid alarming people, and then both of them turning it into a joke to lighten the mood. but I also love that quiet, serious moment in between.
Tumblr media
AND THIS ONE. it's practically Yasuhara's m.o. at this point, the light-hearted insistance on getting his own way, and I love 1) Bou-san's aggravation because he totally recognizes it and he's aggravated at being a target and concerned for Yasuhara's safety, 2) the very Married storming off "do whatever you want!" and 3) again that shift to seriousness. Bou-san is trying to protect him by keeping him from going down to the sea cave, and he's just like nope, nope, I'm protecting you this time.
Tumblr media
posted this the other day--Dad 1 getting annoyed at the kids' bickering, Dad 2 soothing him because that's just what they're like, dear, let them blow off steam
Tumblr media
I love this totally in-sync joint interrogation. Yasuhara gets the ball rolling by drawing Naru in, then Bou-san takes over.
Tumblr media
"you're a perfect flirter. always works on me."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bonus: still waiting on a non-flirtatious reason for that flower changing hands...

Can we talk about how weird the first episode of Ghost Hunt is?
It starts off pretty average: there's a creepy, old schoolhouse that students have been telling ghost stories about for years. Pretty standard for a ghost anime.
The faculty wants to demolish the building, but due to the haunted rumors and a series of accidents that continuously take place on the premises, no company will take the job.
So the principal hires a ghost hunter to settle the matter once and for all. Okay, sure. If the rumors and the stories are the problem and hiring an investigator will ease everyone's mind, even if it's a placebo effect, that makes sense. Only...he hires on five separate people:
A paranormal researcher
A Shinto priestess
A Buddhist monk
A Catholic priest
A celebrity medium
Bro hit three of Japan's religions and then some like a bingo card and administration said, "Well, this is an expense we're going to be okay with."
Bonus Round: If you haven't actually watched this show, try to guess who is who in the above picture. I dare you.

INADA: I'm pretty sure Mai didn't use this term in the original story, but if she did, this is an apology for the oversight. Since I could only come up with a bad pun title that would anger me, it's untitled...
Mai, behind you! 🤣🤣🤣😂

Ghost Hunt headcanons
Yasuhara loves dramas and soap operas. He gets really into the plot.
Lin is surprisingly good with babies. Even though he wasn't good with the children at the church when they investigated it for Christmas, for some reason babies love him. They always fall asleep on him or stop crying once they see him.
Masako always loved the ballet Swan Lake. When she was little we wanted to take ballet so she could act it out. With her rising fame, she never got the chance.
John is the second youngest of 5. He has 2 older brothers, 1 older sister, and 1 younger sister.
Ayako is a beast at darts. Monk still can't beat her.
Monk prefers coffee over tea.
Mai hasn't had her hair cut professionally since she started living on her own. Michiru cuts it for her.
Naru is somewhere on the spectrum. Not exactly sure where but he is and he also has inattentive ADHD. He self medicates with tea, which is why Mai is always making it.
Madoka has taken it upon herself to try and teach Naru in the art of wooing a woman (namely Mai). From self help books, to advice columns, to blogs and vlogs, she's used them all to absolutely no success and Naru's utter annoyance.
When Luella met Mai for the first time after her and Naru started dating, Luella didn't like her very much. Not to say that she hated the young psychic, but Luella had already lost one son to Japan, she wasn't willing to lose another. She warmed up to the idea after seeing Naru and Mai interact on a case in England.
Once, Yasuhara took John and Monk to a karaoke bar (even though he couldn't drink yet) got the two of them drunk and has video evidence of them singing Piano Man by Billy Joel.
Masako's mother is her manager. Though, she's not really sure she can call her "mother" anymore.
Lin may be a man of fewer words than Naru, but that doesn't stop him from updating Madoka on the soap opera that is the young manager and his younger assistant's budding romance. (romance being used lightly here lol)
Ayako is a closet anime nerd. Not at the Otaku level but she is a casual fan, never talks about it though.
...
Just some headcanons from Ghost Hunt. A lot of these are from my fics Dangerous Souls and The Haunt Continues. What headcanons for these guys do you have?

Detail I noticed in the Ghost Hunt manga
Spoilers for the first “arc”/case file!
So I’m a big fan of Ghost Hunt, I’ve reread the manga a few times, I’m currently trying to read the light novel, and I watch the anime at least one a year. It’s my Roman Empire, what can I say?
Anywho, while I was rereading the first case file in the manga I noticed an interesting little detail i hadn’t noticed before; Naru is playing with a nail in the late beginning, early middle of the case that’s brought up by the end.
What do I mean by this? Well, after we’re introduced to our main cast of characters there’s an incident roughly between pages 80-84 where Ayako gets trapped in one of the old school house classrooms. Takigawa ends up having to break down the door because it won’t open.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Followed by the scene where they’re trying to figure out what’s going on. At one point we get a close up of Naru as they’re talking about what each specialist theorised is happening. In this panel we actually see Naru holding the nail.
Tumblr media
Mai even makes an offhand comment about Naru “playing” with the nail-
Tumblr media
Before we see her thoughts on the matter, where she mentions the “locked” door on the next page.
Tumblr media
Now why is this important? How does this tie into the nail detail/forshadowing? Well, the thing is that nail is actually why Ayako got locked in the room in the first place.
Pretty much, by the end of the case we find out that Kuroda (the one who was unconsciously causing the poltergeist in the building) was getting back at Ayako for being rude to her the entire case. So she pretty much closed the door behind Ayako and stuck a nail in the floor so it wouldn’t open.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do we see where I’m going? That nail that Naru holds up, the one he thought “wasn’t important enough” to mention? Yeah, that’s the nail he’s holding earlier in the case! It’s such a small detail that on my first read I didn’t even make the connection at first, but it’s a pretty subtle foreshadow when you look back on it. I’ve definitely watched the anime more and I’m almost certain that Naru doesn’t have any nail on his person until the end of the third episode, which made this detail stick out when I actually caught it.
Idk I just love catching little details during rereads that I didn’t notice sooner. It’s such a fun little experience that makes me happy.
Fun fact: in the first case, Kuroda herself also kinda foreshadows the resolve of the story! We find out that Kuroda is the one behind the poltergeist, unknowingly, and if you pay close enough attention you start to notice that all the poltergeist activities only seems to happen when Kuroda is in the building. A lot of the earlier incidents are proven to be accidents until Naru gives his original theory on ground subsidence being the cause. After that Kuroda starts unconsciously creating the poltergeist activity, but either way the odd happenings - things that couldn’t be explained by the land sinking anyway- almost always happen when Kuroda is around. When she’s gone almost everything is else can be logically explained away.
If you stayed till the end of my little info dump on a series that I’m sure has been dead since the early 2000’s…have some tea and cookies!

Review: This was beautiful. I've never been so immersed in a story before, it was actually unreal. I don't know you personally, but I'm proud of you, and you deserve so many headpats. ❤❤❤
Review: You recommended I read your favorite child here, and I'm glad you did. I'm loving this. I'm binge reading it.
John is such a sweetheart. And I can absolutely picture Takigawa as a laid back cop. I'm curious to see how things develop with Mai and Naru.
Can't wait to binge read more.
A companion tale set in the Detroit Become Human universe using the characters of Ghost Hunt. Fandom blind story!
John crouched and held the red Nikon up to his eye, taking his time to adjust the zoom just right. His blue orbs squinted as he looked through the small sight and twisted the thick lens. He snapped the shot. A bird’s nest nestled securely in a rusty, disused aerial with an endless sea of disused warehouses sprawled below, bathed in a red sunset. It was quite a breath-taking view. He got to his feet with a sigh and looked around in quiet awe. He’d taken quite a few shots from the old metal rooftops. It was a wonder the area hadn’t been flattened yet. He’d almost fallen through the rusted metal more than once already. He took a moment to return his camera to the protective backpack before taking off again.
His feet made loud metallic clanks on the sloping surface as he ran. He hopped onto the edge of the building before jumping across to a slightly lower rooftop. He looked around for a good route down. Maybe he could even get inside one of the dilapidated buildings. The place had been shut down for almost ten years now, and over the last decade even the security had disappeared. No one ever bothered to come here. Occasionally, there may be a few teens looking for somewhere to party, but they didn’t stick around. He’d photographed some amazing graffiti today, but all of it was quite old. Cracked and faded on rusted metal or crumbling concrete. Even students were going off this place as a secret hideout.
The warped metal creaked beneath his feet as he walked across the rooftop, coming upon an old skylight. He leaned down and ran a hand over the filthy glass. This looked like a possible entry point. The glass itself was still firm, but as he tugged the jagged metal frame, he could see the rusted seal giving way. He tugged on his protective gloves and pulled, feeling the rust turn to powder against the thick material as he heaved. There was a resounding crack as the window came loose and he pushed it aside.
He was careful as he knelt on the edge, using a small flashlight to look down into the darkness below. There was a metal bar just a few feet down, probably from the old lighting system. There were some gangways still standing, though he wouldn’t know how stable they were until he reached them. I just hope the lighting rails will hold, he thought as he got to his feet and took a few breaths. His best bet was to swing from the rail and onto one of the gangways as quickly as possible. He trusted the gangway more than the thin rail. With that in mind, he stepped over the edge.
He let out a small grunt as he grabbed the rail, gasping as the whole thing twisted, spinning him in dizzying circles. He hadn’t factored in chain supports that moved. One hand slipped as he looked around, trying to figure out where to go. At least the rail hadn’t fallen yet. He used his legs to swing the long bar, getting himself closer to the gangway. He released, his feet making a loud crash as he landed. The rail he’d been swinging from collapsed on one side and swung precariously with a high-pitched whine. That was closer than I’d like, John thought, adrenaline buzzing as he edged his way along the cracked surface.
“Agh!” he yelped in surprised as the metal section he was edging along fell through. He grabbed the walkway's edge with one hand, feet kicking as he tried to look around and get a better grip. He was still too high to simply drop to the floor below. Oh no! he thought worriedly, seeing only one way. There was a chain hanging close by. It had probably been used to heft larger loads like some sort of crane or pulley system. After all this time, it may not work, but he had little choice. Lord protect me…

Idk if you guys ever saw the first one I made a while ago, but I recently revisited my Ghost Hunt hyperfixation about two years after the first, and I felt inspired to redo a color job I did on one of the panels for Akumu no Sumi Ie I did a long time ago since I’ve gotten a lot better at digital art since then.
Tumblr media
I’m actually really proud of how it came out :D and I hope you guys like seeing Manga Mai in color just as much as I do :333

I don’t know why, but the thought popped into my head on the way home from work. Mai in Superman’s role and Naru in Batman’s role. Monk, Yasu, or Gene could take Deadshot’s place.
The thought is absolutely hilarious to me.
