Companions react to the Scorched Plague
Ada; Sent on supply and scavenging runs, gets what's needed and takes it where it needs to go. When she's not doing that, joins hunting parties and gets deep in the fray. She can't get infected—the squishy humans can. Ada is joined by Codsworth pretty frequently. At the end of it, keeps a Scorched Beast tooth in her home (whatever it may be) as a souvenir.
Cait; One of the first to join the Scorched Beast hunting parties. She recognizes a 'all hands on deck' situation when she sees it. And when the usual monsters of the waste give way to crystallized husks, working as one mind hell-bent on destruction? Fuck it. If it takes her out, she'll have taken out far more. Danse gives her a sweet suit of Power Armor and she wears out the knuckle joints a lot. Why shoot when you can punch, right?
Curie; You can't pull her away from her labs, her medical bays. Curie works herself to the bone and then some, trying to find a cure, a prevention, anything. She still ends up having to restock her ammo, when her patients or test subjects succumb and have to be put down. It's the hardest thing Curie has ever gone through. She doesn't come out the same person.
Codsworth; Bounces many different jobs. Ferries supplies, tends to the wounded and sick, feeds the civilians...he's a nervous wreck, but determined. He's often sent into infection hotzones with other robots, who can't get infected. Ada and him make a good duo, together. If only the decontamination process didn't rust him so badly...
Danse; On the outside, he's in Paladin mode. Barking orders, leading hunting parties, rarely does Danse stop firing at something. But internally, holy shit, this man is terrified. The Brotherhood is familiar with this plague, but if they couldn't stop it before, how could they now? He's the first to give an inspirational, do-or-die speech, and the last person to believe it. Makes Power Armor for anyone who'll join the cause. Ends up really bonding with Cait and X6-88 over the duration of the epidemic.
Deacon; keeps an eye on the wandering packs, the trails he finds of the Beasts, and points the hunting parties at them. The Railroad, for once, joins the fray. Instead of moving just synths, they move everyone into safe areas. He's not as nervous as other people; he can't be. Panic isn't going to keep people safe. Deacon stops cutting and dying his hair, pretending to be someone else. Staring at the Scorched, watching their individuality melt away into one mindless, all-thinking husk...you learn to value who you are. Even if you don't always like yourself, at least you are yourself.
Dogmeat; is trained to sniff out the plague, both in people yet to be taken over, and the hordes of Scorched. Dogmeat gets passed around to whoever needs his nose—Deacon takes him for tracking the Beasts, Curie has him find infected, Preston has him herd the Scorched into a nice, easy place for Artillery to rain down on. When all is said and done, is fed the highest quality meats while he catches up on his naps.
Gage; Bye, fuckers! He grabs as much as he can, finds a nice, cozy little bunker somewhere, and happily plans the rest of his life there. Starts gardening, like a Minuteman nerd. It's open season if someone opens the door. If the world ends a second time, Gage will watch it with bottle-cap sunglasses, and a glass of home-brewed mutfruit wine in hand. Will have a crisis over how much he likes the simple, quiet farming life. Has to get dragged kicking and screaming to leave his bunker, convinced there'll be a second wave or something.
Hancock; Debates leaving Goodneighbor. Loves his town, but they're not the kind of folks to...y'know. Quarantine, practice safe sex, not get into weird substances they find...he sticks by them though. Everyone gets armor and masks to cover up, keep the plague off them. There's a strict curfew, neighborhood watch delivers supplies to each building. Hancock has Kent work with Piper, keep the airwaves pumping out information and news as it comes. Hancock himself works with MacCready. Keeps off the chems to not dull his senses. Has a giant, week long party in Goodneighbor afterwards.
MacCready; Helps Goodneighbor get supplies in. Travels exclusively by rooftop if he can help it. Daisy sets him up with a long-distance radio so he can get word to Kent, Travis Miles in DC, and the Minutemen ASAP. A very valuable agent in the mess. Hancock watches his back as he scopes out the hordes and picks them off. Duncan draws pictures of his dad shooting down Scorched Beasts; they stay on the fridge long after the Plague is dealt with.
Nick; Travels with Piper as she investigates and reports the movement of the plague. Since he's immune, he ventures into the hotbeds of the plague, where Piper would get infected. Nick takes note of the appearance of individual Scorched, hoping to tell their worried loved ones what became of them. He leaves pamphlets of these descriptions at the agency, printed in the Publick Occurances alongside the news. Once the dust settles, burns all of his clothes; can't risk them being contaminated. Diamond City gets him a nice new trench coat as thanks for everything.
Old Longfellow; Takes point at settlements and safe zones. Whenever he's posted, not a single Scorched get within a mile of the area and leaves it alive. They start piling up at some point. He shoots down a Scorched Beast all on his own and bars everywhere are doomed to hear it echoed throughout eternity. Old Longfellow ends up teaching Minutemen rookies some tricks while on guard duty with them. Gets yelled at for giving them booze.
Piper; Chases the hordes, the infection zones, the Beasts, and stops only to write the info and news. She teams with the radio hosts of the Commonwealth, Travis and Kent Connolly, to deliver immediate warnings. The Brotherhood, Railroad, Minutemen—Piper is their top source of information. She could never truly fathom how important her work is, and how many people it saved. After the plague, she writes a book about the experience.
Preston; It is difficult to describe how hard this man works. He's giving rationing orders to a settlement while in a firefight across the state. He's making decisions about an assault ten different assaults away while hitting Beasts out of the air with Artillery. He's like a workaholic octopus. It's kind of incredible. Consumes only coffee and whatever someone else can shove in his face while he uses his hands for something else. The General has to chase him down and tranq him so he sleeps. Like Curie, fundamentally changed. Loses all of his hinges through it all.
X6-88; The plague effects Gen3 synths, so he has to don full-coverage armor and forgo his sunglasses. Deeply upset by this. Coursers, once rare to see and rarer to survive, are everywhere hunting the Beasts. X6-88 gives Institute info to Piper when he can get away with it. He hates the wasteland already—he doesn't want it getting worse. At least the topside scum aren't possessed by weird zombie bats. X6 joins Danse's teams, brings Curie samples, and when all is over, breaks into Gage's bunker and drags him out to rejoin society, as per the Sole Survivor's orders.

I liked your romanced companions reacting to sole cheating. How would they react to being cheated on with one another? Like sole is cheating on x with y, it would be a little extreme to get with all companions at once.
Here is the reaction that inspired this post in case anyone wants to read it :)
I chose which companion Sole had an affair with at random, hope this was what you were looking for! I agree that their canon harem always rubbed me the wrong way lol
Cait: Cait’s cheeks flushed as red as her hair. She had Sole cornered in the Third Rail, Magnolia’s jazz sounding more like grating white noise than a melodic song. “Ya cheated on me with MacCready? That grubby, shit-for-brains, no-good cave-dwelling merc?” Cait nearly punched herself in the face wiping away a fallen tear. “I always thought he was sweet on me, but it was just to keep me from thinkin you two were sleeping together. Get out of my damn life, Sole. I didn’t deserve that.”
Curie: Curie could have stomached Sole’s infidelity if it was an anonymous drifter. Some wastelander who they’d met at a bar or during a supply run. But Piper? She was Curie’s friend, too. How could she be so naive? “I suppose I have more to learn about humans than I thought before.” Curie shoved her things in a scavenged duffle bag, her back turned away from Sole. “Do not try to find me. Either of you. I already feel foolish enough.”
Danse: Danse had always feared he wouldn’t be enough for Sole. He had never dated before. Never been in love. Was never sure if he held Sole too tightly, or at an arm’s length. But when Sole admitted they had been sleeping with Preston, he wondered if he ever held their attention at all. “I didn’t take Preston as an adulterer,” Danse admitted, his teeth grit together. “Ironic how you two could do so good for the Commonwealth, yet betray your inner circle so harshly.”
Deacon: Deacon rarely missed details. He knew whenever a Railroad agent cut their hair two inches, or when Carrington changed the brand of antiseptics he used to clean medical supplies, or whether Desdemona was in a mood just judging by her posture. That was why he was so shocked he never picked up that Sole was cheating on him with Curie. “She’s a good gal,” Deacon said flatly, his shades pushed up to the skin between his eyes. “Shame she doesn’t know what a bastard you are.”
Hancock: The mayor was all about having a good time, but only when both parties consented. He had never given Sole permission to stray from their monogamous relationship, let alone with Cait. “So you two were fine huffing my chems and drinking my wine all while fucking under my roof?” He dismissed Sole with a curt wave of his ghoulified hand. “Get out of Goodneighbor, Sunshine. And don’t come back.”
MacCready: MacCready had told Sole he’d follow her until the day he died. They had swapped stories of their deceased spouses. Cleaned each other’s wounds. Shared a bed. But nothing hurt more than knowing Sole had cheated on him with Danse; someone he didn’t like, but still a man who was in their inner circle. “Don’t touch me!” MacCready slapped Sole’s hand from his arm, eyes brimming with hot tears. “Fuck off to the Prydwyn and go live your happily ever after.” He didn’t care about swearing. Duncan would understand.
Preston: The general could hardly look at Sole. He had trusted them with the Minutemen. Trusted them with his heart. And Sole had betrayed everything Preston felt secure within. “Hancock, really?” His voice warbled, on the verge of breaking. “Am I really so boring that you need your thrills with the Commonwealth’s craziest mayor?” He didn’t mean the insult. Hell, he had half a mind to apologize to Hancock later. But while Sole’s love brought out the best in him, their betrayal coaxed out his worst.
Piper: “Boy am I stupid.” Piper gave a clipped laugh that shook at the end. “All this time you’ve been helping me write about synths replacing humans, and you’ve been sleeping with one all along.” She was talking about X6-88; a damn courser for crying out loud. “Were you just waiting to swap me with some machine? Is X6 playing you, or are we both just playing ourselves?”
Nick: “I suppose only the Commonwealth’s greatest secret agent could pull one over on its greatest detective.” Nick’s voice was flat, his joke humorless. “I hope you and Deacon are very happy, Sole. Honestly. Just stay out of my way and we won’t have a problem.”
X6-88: X6 was more disgusted with Sole’s choice of lover than their actual affair. Nick Valentine was a Gen 2 synth. As a courser, X6 was superior to him in every way. “I suppose you have less taste than I thought.” He had nothing more to say. X6 was happy to go back to the Institute and ask Father for another courser to be reassigned as Sole’s bodyguard.

LETS START OUT STRONG GIVE US FOX HC’s AND REN HC’s
CW: Drugs mention (just to be safe)
OH BOY.
Ren:
-He hates cooked meat and prefers it raw, but can fake enjoying it when eating out in public. It makes him feel sick though. Rare steak is the only type of cooked meat he can somewhat stomach. (Since he’s a beastkin it’s safe for him to consume uncooked meat I believe.)
-His favorite soda is Strawberry flavored Ramune Soda. This applies to Fox too.
-Idc if he’s built like a twink in canon that boy will be chubby in my eyes forever!!!
-He actually wears contact lenses and does still need glasses when he doesn’t have his lenses in.
-He’s autistic and also has adhd as well, but his adhd is more prominent then his autism.
-He has body pillows of his big tiddy anime waifus 100% lol
-Ren has an oc that’s just an exaggerated emo anime boy strade, it’s how he copes leave him alone!!!
-Ren does cross dress casually and he isn’t embarrassed about it at all, yes he 100% has went out in public in a mini skirt.
-He runs a “kawaii anime pictures daily!! :3” tumblr blog and has its likes hidden bc it’s full of gore
-He keeps a stash of gummy edibles on him at all times. They help him deal with his issues somewhat.
-His favorite vocaloid/voice synth is actually Gumi and not miku (stole this from my bf heehee!!!)
- - -
Fox:
-DAD BOD DAD BOD DAD BOD DAD BO-
-He now masks his autism and adhd, but both come out occasionally obviously
-He can stomach cooked meats much better now after building up his tolerance for it over the years, but does he still prefer to munch on raw flesh/meat? Yes, yes he does.
-Fox is a chainsmoker, like he’s going through MANY packs a day lol.
-He’s tried many hard substances at least once but managed to not get addicted to them somehow. I feel like he might have a secret drug operation going on too. Just seems like the type.
-He wears platform boots to make himself appear taller, he became VERY insecure of his height when his peers teased him for it.
-He is VERY wine obsessed, wine + chicken hearts + chocolate = you getting dicked down!!!
-Fox isn’t exactly shy about being an anime fan still but he def gets embarrassed when he ends up infodumping about Kitten Chan or something.
-The “misses strade even though he shouldn’t” shit got worse with age unfortunately. He archived his “movies” on a hard drive and keeps it on him at all times. Somebody get this man a therapist appointment stat jfc. He also still has his jacket but it’s hanging by the threads at this point. Crusty as hell too.
-Fox often has nightmares. He rarely gets a good rest.
-He still needs glasses lol

selected albums ive listened to in 2024
this year I'm just posting the highlights so itll be shorter
[1] [2]
January
1/ VHS Head - Phasia (2023) first new album of '24 for me! "Strange Food" that zap pew beat is a delight! title track is p good, floaty. "Phocus" this is very vaguely leaning into…funk? i really like it. possible highlight? wondering why it shares the title of a different album.
---
4/ VA - FM Synth 2 (2017) yeah i love fm "Mach 5 Fusion Force X" is a god damn tour de force. insane! "Work Without Rules" second fav of mine for its smoov smoov swingy wobs
---
7/ Skee Mask - C (2024) first 2024 album in the list! dusty, crispy, chillout. analogue. deep bass when needed, never too thick of a presence. delightful chillout music. at worst, its a bit varied, as if it were an anthology. probably because it is. highlight: "Bassline Dub"
---
12/ (all OCRemix posts from 2017) all over the place ofc some insano selections: "Multi-track Drifting" N R G!!! "Big Room Gobi" funny but in a goes hard way also: Star Salzman's Katamari mix!!! i keep coming back to that in particular
----
15/ VA - Adventure Time, Vol. 1-5 (2019) they have extended versions of some sc cuts!! "Party With the Chief" esp(!) the biggest thing I noticed overall: this soundtrack is so…wack. meandering. ADHD in control of a quirky ensemble. continually amazed that this's from a hit show
---
16/ Diverse System - JAPAN 2 (2023) a mostly rly good grab bag of bangers with a japan flavor! i adore the koto mixed in with tight electric beats. big big standouts with "灯火" !!! and the much more electric "Amatsu"
---
17/ Patricia Taxxon - Bicycle (2024) laid back (mostly) textures n vibes. instant fav in "Frat Claws" and "I Do" specifically! i really like the FEEL within the sounds. i keep coming back to "Chipshop" and "Boys". visceral.
---
23/ Aleksi Perälä - Starlight 1 (2018) surprisingly solid, albeit a bit all over the place much love for the smooth sounds of "UK74R1823040" much love for the stepfiltered "UK74R1823090" not as much a fan of the techno flavors this time but still!
it's hard to recommend this artist in general but ive been listening to a lot of AP music. just give those two highlights a try and see what you think.
---
February
25/ BT - The Secret Language of Trees (2023) THE GOOD STUFF Producer's Cuts especially!!! "k-means clustering"……. the clicks in "Time Moves So Fast"…. if you ever wished ppl made more music from 2007, here it is. a return to the binary universe.
----
40/ Tom Bragl - Regainable (2024) a few crunchy niceities, but just a few imo. "Klamra" f.ex. feels very 2007, which IS a delight. for anyone who wishes they made more music from 2007. here it is. funny it's marketed as "80s esque" lol. i hear it tho.
----
43/ µ-ziq - 1977 (2023) mike has a very distinct style that stands out from a lot of his peers imo. i wasnt sure about this but the reverbed minimalist drum machine in tracks like "4am" and "Belt & Carpet" win me over. I think those two and the weirdly hazy house of "Houzz 13" are my favs. "4am" especially, with those ethereal (newage?) chopped vocals
----
44/ Autechre - 2005-4-15 Glasgow (live set) apparently there are some old soundboard recordings laying around!!! this is super good. quaristice stuff. i love love love the multiple variations of chence9! the fast version of IO is rly good too. ez fav but still.
----
March
47/ STAFFcirc vol. 9: MIDI MODULE FANATIX (2024) oh hell yes, midi AND rompler!!! "Thunder and Strawberry Wine" is otherworldly. i get how it was made but also. How? ooooghhh… "30 Domcaster St" delightful ooooghhh… "Cascade rev.2023" authentic zest "Yakumotatsu" god i love this trend of pushing msgs midi to the max "tunnel7_r35b" listen i love chimeratio and he brought his slapping
----
57/ Fields Of Mist - Biospore Farmers (2024) try not to compare to boc challenge: impossible. it's lush damnit. but the perc is way way more analogue drummachine. its wall to wall good. that opening track would have blown my mind in 2007. they dont make it like that anymore, except i guess they do!
----
60/ pilotredsun - Achievement (2016) an album misplaced in time. pristine early 00s bedroom musician vibes.

hi hope i’ve seen a lot of opinions about the 1975 lately both good and bad and then of course matty healy and his comments. also seen people talking about their hype. when i looked through your concert tag i saw you’ve been a fan of theirs for a long long time so just wanted your opinion as someone who knows music why are they so hyped/were so hyped? i wasn’t around when they were big until now. thanks for answering!
Hi babe.
yeah i’ve been a fan on/off of theirs since 2013, and per usual just when i’m starting to get back into them matty healy annoys me and turns me off again lmfao like clockwork
but, their initial hype was enraptured with the 2013-2014 tumblr era. that’s when they began gaining momentum. like most bands/artists of the tumblr era (such as arctic monkeys, the neighborhood, lana del rey, halsey, marina & the diamonds etc.) they had a very distinct silhouette and aesthetic which drew in the tumblr crowd which featured creatives, young people, hipsters of the time blah blah. their leather jackets/fashion, black & white minimalism, very sleek branding, lyrical content, brash yet romanticized stage show, dark wave content etc. was strong parts of who the 1975 was when many people first stumbled upon them. they also took a lot from the new wave era musically and appearance-wise. they were one of the main bands that helped bring back the resurgence of eighties synth wave, so their music although broody was fun and refreshing and experimental during that time. this was only amplified as they ventured into their “i like it when you sleep” album.
they were also liked due to their “who gives a fuck” attitude when it came to criticism especially from the media and music journalism over their sound. in their music video for “The Sound” (which i still consider one of my fav music videos to this day), it features very blatant commentary on the music business, being put into a glass box as an artist and gawked at or observed/criticized, the pressures of conformity and branding, and near the end it has a montage of quotes that have been said by different media/music outlets that are negative about them as people (mainly matty lol) or the band’s music. so it was refreshing to see a band be so unapologetic about who they were and the music they created.
then of course we have the matty healy™️ syndrome which was the fact that he was a Tumblr IT boy. he fit that dark, broody, waxing poetic, artsy boy in the philosophy section of a bookstore, lips stained with red wine, hopeless romantic type that had everyone in a chokehold lol he was a “bad boy” but with a “soft boy” edge and that was all he needed to be. he also had a brain with wrinkles and said smart things sometimes (which still rings true) even though that brain also said stupid, raging, insensitive word vomit most times (which again still rings true lmao). and then we had his and halsey’s fling/relationship which was a moment™️ for so many people (me included fkfkfk) but yeah matty healy and the 1975’s hype was a product of the time they grew from. and also a lot of their music kicks ass unfortunately so that held its own footing over the years even though i hadn’t personally liked a full length album of theirs since 2016 until their record last year.
but in present time, matty healy’s ego is even more inflated than it’s been in a long time bc of the album’s success and he just says whatever shit he wants bc he made that good point about m&gs and has tiktok and twitter clout so he thinks people want to hear his fungus spore opinions or want to be kissed at his concerts when in actuality he’s just a nepo baby riding this reawakened exposure high who can be a raging asshole more times than not lmao

Early Synth HCs and Thoughts, pt. 3
Alas, the grasp of life's sorrows eases on me. Onto the rambling!
Tumblr media
(Poe AI from Altered Carbon, my beloved)
Liquid and Food intake:
For liquids, the explanation is simple: almost anything can be used as a coolant, as long as it has good heat transfer properties, adequate viscosity (isn't too thick) and electrical conductivity, is not dangerous to use and doesn't harm the machine through debris, corrosion, obstructions, etc.
Water would be the first choice for a coolant in a situation where Coolant™ is unavailable, but it wouldn't be recommended that a Gen. ≤II synth used alternative substances too often, because they will eventually damage it. If water isn't available, distilled alcoholic beverages would be the second best thing; beer, wine and soft drinks the third; and anything else after that. The synth would need to rinse off the stuff that's neither water not distilled as soon as possible, to avoid further issues.
As for food, I have no idea!
At first, I thought they could have something like a biomass energy generator as backup to the nuclear one, producing power through either decomposition or burning of organic matter. The issue with this is that it simply wouldn't fit in their frame, at least not in a realistic-ish way (mind you, we're dealing with suspension of disbelief here), and having a straight up furnace inside them wouldn't be practical at all, mainly because of the heat and proximity to the core —we all know what happens when it gets too warm in there.
Tumblr media
So, the way I see it is that they probably wouldn't be able to ingest solids (I am still debating if soup could be used as a decent coolant, and how liquid can food get after chewing, but I'm afraid those questions will remain unanswered for now), and because I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't consider this, the "piping" from the synth's mouth would have to lead to a coolant reservoir, and pass through some filters on the way there. It would have to be either a significantly thick tube, or a thinner, more flexible one that used the movement of the rubber lung I mentioned on the previous text to pump the liquid to said reservoir.
Ports, or The Age-Old Question of Where in the World do They Stick Those Holo Tapes:
There is no visual indication of any port anywhere on them, which leads me to believe that those are hidden by a sort of lid, and located somewhere accessible like the forearm or chest.
If on the forearm, the ports would be more prone to damage because of their distance from the CPU and the articulations of the arm, but they would be more convenient to use, as the synth wouldn't need to, say, unbutton his shirt to read a tape.
On that topic, I believe the holotapes would be inserted horizontally, like a tape recorder proper, instead of vertically, and a synth's voice box could definitely be used to play audio. I'm not sure if they would be able to record tapes as well, but it'd be both useful and super cool!
Tumblr media
Synths can be plugged into computers, as proven by DiMA's and Faraday's shenanigans, so why is it that Nick doesn't do this for hacking? Maybe this would've needed specific cables that he doesn't have, or maybe he just doesn't like to keep being reminded of the fact that he's a robot, and tries to do things as a human would whenever he can. Both of those seem very plausible to me, but I really can't imagine him going R2D2 on a terminal lol, so it's for the best.
Bonus concept that I might write about in the future: Nick having poems (The Raven!) and books stored on his database. The Raven would be especially meaningful to him, I think, because of the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, nameless here forevermore :"))
And that's it, folks!
Tumblr media
Although this was the shorter one, it kinda was the most difficult of them. I had to do some serious thinking and reading about bloody coolant types, and even then I'm not 100% satisfied with what I got. It will have to do, for now!
Thank you kindly for reading. Do share your thoughts on this as well, if you want to!

Winter Demo 2022 - Every Promise Kept
its nice to seeing a christcore band that's actually not homophobic // transphobic // sexist etc etc and actually practice what they preach. often most Christians can be cringe and often will not call out poor behavior. jay barker (she/they) speaking to no echo "I think there's this assumption that if you're in a Christian band you have to be a hate-monger and that's not the case, three of the five people in this band are trans women, and we're pissed off at the state of the church in America and it comes through in our lyrics." also their riffs high key slaps. also they played in a bookstore with upcoming mathcore outfit callous daoboys so that's also pretty cool.
ffo: zao, focal point, no cure xxx.

Monday, horrifying to think that this time next week I’ll be at soundcheck in New York tearing my hair out with nerves. I wake from a heavy sleep in which I dreamt they made tiny Cybertrucks for a single person to get around the city, like e-bikes. You lie on your chest on top of them and the vehicle intuits your destination. Thank god my aptitude for urban transport planning is confined to dreams, because mine crashes outside my brother’s home (a grand suburban Victorian townhouse) and he tells me he wants to have sex with me
A and I like to sing Frank Sinatra’s You Make Me Feel So Young to one another on FaceTime. It’s one of our things now, and I even request a rendition from him to calm me down if I’m getting anxious and taking something he says the wrong way. This happens in the early hours of Monday morning when A makes a cheap joke about me giving paintings away too often, specifically leveraging them in return for music production. His sentiment is ultimately kind, which is that my paintings are valuable and W or anybody else working on my music for a painting trade is getting a way better deal. But naturally I decide that A is calling me some kind of slut. Don’t ask me how I got there, just know that it was nothing a quick Frank Sinatra song couldn’t fix
I am keen to start work at the studio but first I see S in the yard, wearing a knit sweater and short shorts and well-worn crocs. A heinous outfit on anybody but him. There is a degree of hotness and / or charisma that transcends all fashion sense, and S has it. He is packing things up from his show and loading them into his old Subaru to drive back to Wales. His tooth is chipped and his face reddens when I make stupid sex jokes. R joins us for a while, mourning his failed driving test. R who could run circles around anybody in terms of spacial awareness, and who once designed and built living quarters for eight people in a hollowed out warehouse. Not that this necessarily transfers to driving, but it connotes a level of proficiency and commitment that should win the day. That being said, I believe that learning to drive as an adult is one of the most psychologically challenging things you can do. I know because I did it. I think you need the recklessness of your teen years to get you acclimated, and by 30 or even 25 you have already developed a caution that makes driving seem too dangerous. And it is dangerous to be in control of 3,000lb of metal, but I found you have to close your mind to this reality to even pull out of a parking space. Also the brain is less inclined to learning the older you get. And being surrounded by 17 year olds at a driving test centre is an indignity of sorts. And driving instructors are deformed, bitter characters. R says his instructor found out he was an art dealer and asked him if he could help him sell a bottle of wine from the Third Reich. S and I cackle when he tells us. I propose that since Eva Braun’s underwear was recently sold at auction there is clearly a market for fascist-y paraphernalia. “People will buy anything”, I say
And speaking of people buying anything, I leave the boys in the yard and go to finish painting the bed, which has become administrative and not creative. I feel immense relief when it’s done and I can go back to painting whatever I choose on whichever surface. I start two velvets and finish some small linens. I figure out some synth for a new song so that I have something cooking when I return from New York and decrease my SSRI dose once again. Everything is just an insurance policy against depression. E was in London last week and I told her I couldn’t hang out because I was miserable and trying to paint the pain away, a dumb excuse that I make too often. She writes now to ask whether work has set me free, and I try to gauge how spiteful this question is, and whether the auschwitz undertones are deliberate. Collaboration wasn’t good for E and I, and it doesn’t help that the music video she made is sitting sadly on YouTube with fewer than 1,000 views. I am too proud to promote it any further, just as I’m too proud to try to push for more concert ticket sales. I should get over this, since people everywhere are forcing less interesting art on a less receptive audience
A calls and I overhear him tell his Jewish workout friends that I wished him a happy new year in Hebrew rather than a happy Passover in Hebrew. I give him the finger before we hang up. He later tells me that E (different E) has a colony of killer bees attacking the ridiculously expensive plants in his LA studio. “Very Passover”, I say, even though E is Jewish and should therefore have been passed over. “He must not have a mezuzah on his door”, A suggests, “God doesn’t know you’re Jewish if you don’t have a mezuzah”. He calls later in the day from the bath tub, late for his Seder, and tells me that some Thai food he ate for lunch disagreed with him. Perhaps in 2024, Thai food is one of the ten plagues. He says sometimes I don’t text him back and that he doesn’t think I’m trying. I tell him if I contacted him as often as I wanted to he would call the police, but I admit I’m guilty of over-correcting when my feelings are strong and coming off as cold. He goes to his Seder and I watch a video interview with a sex addict on YouTube. G sends me a video of a service in Japan that provides very hard slaps in the face to drunk businessmen to sober them up. I watch young Japanese women form a line and step forward to slap a man when it’s their turn. I wonder if this qualifies as sex work or whether it’s considered work in the medical field or if it’s just a hospitality job. And crucially do they take British American interns

Try using Reaper demo, works full for 60 days. 'performance' mode in bios cpu and/or system settings, remove un-used usb devices, Unplug ethernet, shut down power management, choose That activates and runs in ubuntu as well via iLok and even has less problems than the factory sound "cinema 1.4", but it still is unplayable, even with increased buffer / latency on Jack. I don't need a ton of plugins at the same time, as a hobby pianist I only like to play my Ravenscroft 275 sample live without cracks and xruns.
#Free ravenscroft 275 piano cracks install
My question is: has any of you experience with UVI within Linux (I found no topic here)? Or are there any hidden tweaks in wine, LinVst which solve this? Or at least to improve the performance significantly?īTW, there was no need to install or replace anything in wine, it just ran out of the box. Also there is a graphics glitch with the GUI and the mouse. You can really max it with the sustain pedal. Kontakt) via LinVST work much better, but using the free sound "cinema 1.4" (from the Falcon Preset Tour) in the UVI plugin kills the CPU after a couple of keys (xruns, sound cracks / stuck/ 100% DSP load, high CPU load for LinVst server). It can be tested / reproduced even on a live ubuntu studio usb stick. Thanks to many information in the forum I could Install all the things, however I have huge performance Issues when using UVI workstation 3.0.11 via current LinVST 2.8. As realistic as possible is the goal.I tested the current ubuntu studio 19.10 with different windows plugins (I want to change, because on windows I get minor cracks/xruns even though the CPU load using UVI is very low) Especially if it's a demo of a commercial product. Spending a lot of money doesn't mean massive improvement over a freebie. I suggest you try the pianoteq demo, as it is synth not sample it won't eat up your harddrive and you can try several pianos from the one download. You can radically change the tonality, width and reverb of the pianos in all these engines. A good graded hammer action 88 key keyboard should be considered for any expensive library. If I wanted purely piano stuff that is what I would get. Pianoteq offers lots of Piano (all synthesized) plenty of freebies too: Komplete has some great Rock organs and electronic pianos too. Kontakt5 (and Komplete) offers lots of options to name one player. Most sample pianos work in both 32bit and 64bit. Several ST3 pianos are aimed at bright punchy Pop/Rock production or uprights for smaller scale, less clean presentation. Staying with low cost full sampleTank 3 has multiple pianos. Was that a typo or are you seriously asking if you can better a freebie with $300 or £300? of course you can! There is a decent piano in the sampletank 3 freebie but I am wondering how much better it gets from than that. What are some of the better piano vst under say 300 and 32 bit? Rock is the usual style.

Features of Native Instruments Kontakt Keygen: From the attitude of the interface, Native Instruments have done their job alright. Luckily, this is not a DX synth with a posh interface, and even novice users will discover that the fundamentals of FM8 aren’t too hard to know. FM-synthesis is vast and demands more effort before your sound sounds well, and even more effort before it sounds musically expressive. FM might not be for everybody, it doesn’t have the simple design of a standard analog synthesizer or maybe a basic ROMpler.
#Native instruments fm8 freeload full version download
Native Instruments Komplete 13 Crack + Key Download 2022įM8 Mac is caviar for sound design gurus, which are some things to stay in mind: it’s still FM. Sounds which FM8 does alright include all kinds of bells and chromatic percussion, DX pianos, organs, Rhodes, a good range of basses, guitars, strings, lively percussion instruments, rich classic string machines, woodwinds, brass, evolving pads, synth pads, expressive leads, harsh leads, sound effects, and everyone with fine musical expression and control. On a recent PC, multiple instances of FM8 together will easily offer you many voices and tens of effects, which makes it a handy tool for any musical production. Komplete 13 Ultimate Crack + TorrentĪ practical aspect of FM8 Presets is its low CPU usage. Use a sample player to feed a sample into FM8fx and you will enter SY77/99 territory.
#Native instruments fm8 freeload full version Patch
Simply put: the output of an entire FM8 patch (including its effects!) can modulate an easy wave in an FM8fx instance. A traditional FM8 instance can (as a whole) modulate an operator in an FM8fx instance. It can modulate and be modulated by the FM8fx operators, giving practically infinite sound-shaping possibilities. Any audio source that’s fed into FM8fx is often used as operator output. The IN-operator becomes effective when FM8 is getting used as an effects plug-in (called FM8fx). Every now and then you will find out it’s possible to craft sounds you never thought of as possible, a singular experience that sound designers thrive on. FM8 Latest grows on you with fine wine the longer you employ it, the more you’ll appreciate it. increase this huge new effects section and within a moment you’ll forget the FM beasts of yesteryear.
#Native instruments fm8 freeload full version free
because of the various sound shaping aspects, you’ll change with velocity, aftertouch and other controllers, FM8 Free is often exceptionally expressive and musical. If anything, FM8 may be a synthesizer that invites you back to the age when it had been fun and rewarding to make new sounds from scratch again. With multi-segment envelopes, multi-segment scaling curves, and an in-depth modulation matrix, FM8 is capable of very detailed sounds bearing an almost human quality and realism. Native Instruments Komplete 13 Ultimate Crack Mac/Win
#Native instruments fm8 freeload full version for mac
ditch the tiny two-line displays of the old days, FM8 for Mac features a clean interface where every feature is one or two mouse clicks away and about every aspect of FM8 is often assigned to a controller via the MIDI learn button. ditch the complexity of algorithms found in Yamaha’s DX-series and FS1r, FM8 has an FM matrix during which the user can define any FM path imaginable.
#Native instruments fm8 freeload full version software
it’s the potential to supply bread ‘n butter seems like a typical ROMpler would and is thus a synthesizer with the facility to become one among the few software synthesizers you’ll ever need. it is a powerful FM software synthesizer (VSTi, DXi, RTAS) that may be used for a good range of genres. FM8 has an all-new interface and color scheme which looks nothing just like the DX7-inspired interface the FM7 has. The successor to the award-winning FM7, Native Instrument’s FM8 continues where its massive predecessor had stopped. Innovative features raise FM-based synthesis to new levels. Load patches from classic FM hardware units or use the 960 presets. The FM8 Torrent embodies the bright, lively sound of FM synthesis. With its emphasis on ease of use, theFM8 Library brings a high degree of simplicity to the otherwise intricate process of FM synthesis, delivering unsurpassed depth, brilliance, and dynamism. The strengths of digital are manifest in FM8’s powerful audio engine which generates breath-taking, brilliantly dynamic FM sound in pristine quality. Native Instruments has harnessed the power of FM synthesis. It functions as a VST Plugin, an Audio Units Plugin, an RTAS Plugin, and an AAX Plugin. bones, baby 🦴 [x]
01. gold rush, taylor swift
everybody wants you, everybody wonders what it would be like to love you / i don't like that falling feels like flying 'til the bone crush / what must it be like to grow up that beautiful? with your hair falling into place like dominoes / and the coastal town we wandered 'round had never seen a love as pure as it / and then it fades into the gray of my old day old tea, 'cause you know it could never be / my mind turns your life into folklore, i can't dare to dream about you anymore.
02. on your side, the veronicas
if we knew then what we do now, we’d hold our hands and take a bow, together we would stand our ground and fight / i remember the night we got drunk i got sick on the subway, with your hands on my face said “it don’t matter babe ‘cause i’m always on your side / life isn’t pretty we all get a little wrecked sometimes, if god isn’t listening people  think you’re out of your mind, even if you believe it, through all the hard times i’m on your side” / i still wear your tshirt out, all the ink is faded now, i wonder who you’re dreaming of tonight / i remember the night when you packed all your bags in the doorway, said “i don’t wanna fight you can leave but remember i’m always on your side”
03. muscle memory, lights
after having spent a fast year waiting for the next time i can get you close, i grew used to being back here like a chorus synth line soldier at his post / when i am alone, i see you in the dark, i talk into the empty like you were with me / when you feel the chains of a thousand words, and i speak your name, like i know you heard, i can feel you there, i can hear you move, and it moves me too / when i’m playin’ games, when i’m drinkin’ wine, and i see your glass sittin’ next to mine.
04. this love (taylor's version), taylor swift
clear blue water, high tide came and brought you in, and i could go on and on and on, and i will / skies grew darker, currents swept you out again, and you were just gone and gone, gone and gone / in silent screams, in wildest dreams, i never dreamt of this / this love is good, this love is bad, this love is alive back from the dead / these hands that let it go free and, this love came back to me / your kiss, my cheek, i watched you leave / your smile, my ghost, i fell to my knees / when you’re young, you just run, but you come back to what you need.
05. wipe your tears, halsey
you know i tell her all the time / nothing’s gonna hurt you, baby / nothing’s gonna make you cry / i’ll be damned if i ever let another hand wipe your tears before they dry / keep your friends close but this pretty girl closer, kiss her on the neck, cradle baby is a poser / but she’s so cold but the world is colder / take her in my lap and i promise that i’ll hold her.
06. i guess i'm in love, clinton kane
oh, i’m obsessed, with the way your head is layin’ on my chest / how you love the things i hate about myself, that no one knows, but with you, i see hope again / oh i’m a mess, when i overthink the little things in my head, you seem to always help me catch my breath but then i lose it again / when i look at you, that’s the end. / and darling, this is more than anything i felt before, you’re everything that i want but i didn’t think i’d find / someone who is worth the wait of all the years of my heartbreak, but i know now i found the one i love.
07. high for this, the weeknd
you don’t know what’s in store, but you know what you’re here for / close your eyes, lay yourself besides me / hold tight for this ride / open your hand, take a glass / don’t be scared, i’m right here / even though you don’t roll, trust me girl, you wanna be high for this / take it off, you want it off / ‘cause i know what you’re feeling / it’s okay, girl, i feel it too / let it be, baby breathe. / i swear i’m right here. we’ll be good, i promise, we’ll be so good.
08. golden, harry styles
golden, golden, golden as i open my eyes / hold it, focus, hoping, take me back to the light / i knew you were way too bright for me / i’m hopeless, broken, so you wait for me in the sky / you’re so golden / i don’t wanna be alone but i can feel it take a hold / i can feel you take control of who i am and all i’ve ever known / loving you’s the antidote / i know that you’re scared because i’m so open.
09. you are in love, taylor swift
no proof, one touch / but you felt enough / you can hear it in the silence, you can feel it on the way home, you can see it with the lights out, you are in love, true love / morning, his place / burnt toast, sunday / you keep his shirt, he keeps his word / and for once, you let go / of your fears, and your ghosts / one step, not much / but it said enough / you kiss on sidewalks, you fight and you talk / one night, he wakes, strange look on his face / pauses, then says, you’re my best friend / and you knew what it was, he is in love.
10. the bones, hozier
we built this right, so nothing’s ever gonna move it / when the bones are good, the rest don’t matter / yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter / let it break ‘cause you and i remain the same / there ain’t a crack in the foundation / baby, i know any storm we’re facing / will blow right over while we stya put / the house don’t fall when the bones are good / call it dumb luck, but baby you and i / can’t even mess it up although we both try / no it don’t always go the way we planned it / but the wolves came and went and we’re still standing.
11. partition, beyonce
driver roll up the partition please, i don’t need you seeing yonce on her knees / took forty-five minutes to get all dressed up, we ain’t even gonna make it to this club / now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged / oh, he so horny yeah he want to fuck / he bucked all my buttons, he ripped my blouse / he monica lewinsky’d all on my gown / oh there daddy, didn’t bring the towel / oh, baby, baby we slow it down / took forty-five minutes to get all dressed up, we ain’t even gonna make it to this club.
12. cosmic love, florence & the machine
and in the dark, i can hear your heartbeat / i tried to find the sound / but then it stopped, and i was in the darkness / so darkness i became / i took the stars from my eyes, and then i made a map / and knew that somehow i could find my way back / then i heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too / so i stayed in the darkness with you.
13. 34 + 35, ariana grande
so what you doing tonight? / you better say “doing you right” / you drink it just like water, you say “it tastes like candy” / i don’t wanna keep you up, but show me can you keep it up? ‘cause then i’ll have to keep you up, shit, maybe ima keep you up / baby, you might need a seatbelt when i ride it / imma leave it open like a door, come inside it / even though i’m wifey, you can hit it like a side chick / got the neighbors yellin’ earthquake, 4.5 when i make the bed shake, put it down heavy even though it’s lightweight / yeah, we started at midnight, go till sunrise / done at the same time, but who’s counting when we got it for life? you such a dream come true, make a bitch wanna hit snooze.
14. keep driving, harry styles

Real vs. Hypperreal vs. Surreal
Real: Cherry Wine - Live by Hozier
This song was actually recorded live and it's circumstances were interesting. It was recorded on a caved-in roof of an abandoned (burnt down) hotel in Ireland, the singer's country of origin, at 5 in the morning. I was shocked to learn this when I watched the interview where he details this, but honestly, I think knowing that makes the entire recording even better. What makes this recording sound authentically live can be heard in short sections and throughout the entire song. The sound of birdsong can be heard throughout the entirety of the recording until the very end when he stops playing the guitar, which almost seems like the birds were singing with him. The only instruments are Hozier's voice and his acoustic guitar, and the only effects on it (besides possible later studio edits like compression or EQ tweaks) are the natural reverb of the abandoned hotel rooftop. If you listen closely, you can also hear how the sound changes when Hozier turns his head away from the microphone or recording device. My favorite part of how I can confirm with myself that this recording is live is that you can hear a car or vehicle passing in the distance at around 2:38-2:46, and at the end, the wood of his guitar creaks when he takes his hands off of it to stop the recording or to quietly demonstrate to the person recording that the song is actually over. This is one of my favorite live recordings, let alone one of my favorite songs.
Hyperreal: Run the World by Dayglow
I think this song would potentially sound really good if it were performed live, because there is not a lot going on in this recording. Really, there are only guitars, simple vocals, a synth (which could be played by a keyboard), and some vocal doubling which the audience could assist with on the chorus. It sounds more realistic than surreal because of the simplistic nature, and the natural sounding reverb. Even at the end of the song, the delay of the reverb is just increased which makes it more interesting and less realistic. Mostly what I can pick out that was done after the recording process are the effects the vocals have on them. I think that the delay is the component that stands out the most when considering what was manipulated or done after the fact.
Surreal: Sprite by COIN
This song has a lot of creative production components. The overall production makes it feel nostalgic and ethereal while also maintaining the modern indie vibe as well. The main components of this song are the vocals and chords strummed on a guitar, but what really makes it interesting is the way the producer layered the vocals and all of the additional sounds they added. There are so many different sounds during different sections of the song, where one part does not match another aside from the main guitar/voice/drum patterns and melodies. Also, a very interesting part of this song is the trill and scales that a flute is playing over the duration of the song. If this song were to be played live, the performers would need a lot of additional technology on stage, or they'd need to have an additional sound crew to help them dictate a similar vibe when recreating the sound. In addition to the three members of the band who already play synths, guitar, drums, and vocals/backup, they would need a flute player, an additional synth player, someone solely on a drum pad with a midi library for all the additional sounds, and a heavily curated series of effect pedals for the vocalists and guitarist. I think that it is definitely possible to recreate this song live, I just think that there would have to be so much rehearsal put into it, if the performer wanted a similar sound to the recorded version instead of a completely different style and rendition of it. I have actually wondered how COIN plays this song in person, but I have never been able to get tickets for their performances before they sold out.

Hey, guys I hope everyone's day is going spectacular! As you all know, today is Chris Evans 40th birthday!! I wanted to do something special for such a special day. Thus, I have compiled a list of my absolute favorite stories written for Chris Evans's characters.
Be advised, however, some of these are dubious consent, non-con, daddy kink, spitting, squirting, oral m/f receiving, creampie, anal, and all other manner of kinks I did not realize I enjoyed until joining the site.
It took me a very long time to compile this list and I may have to do some for Sebastian Stan later since some people want to cancel him. But we're not going to talk about that right now.
Here is a list of some of my absolute favorite Chris Evans stories in no particular order.
Golden Boy (Dark!Steve Rogers) - @angrythingstarlight
What sets this one apart from the rest of her stories, is that there's a deep resentment from Steve to Bucky in the very beginning of their friendship.
What The King Has (Soft!Dark Steve Rogers) - @sincerelythedarkside
I just read this one this morning. This was sooo good guys!
Hidden Solace (Andy Barber) - @ozarkthedog
This was difficult. I kept thinking I'd pick Reparations or Cock Worship, but Andy being a little touch starved did it for me.
Burning Desire (Andy, Steve & Ransom as Triplets) - @sinner-as-saint
She really gives you the best of 3 worlds here!
Ticking Clock (Dark!Andy Barber) - @syntheticavenger
Another tough choice. Synth comes straight for your heart and vagina, and you'll love her for it!
Stealth (Steve Rogers) - @afriendlyblackhottie
I may have bitten off more than I can chew, guys! It's so hard picking just one because there's nothing she's written that I can say is not one of my favorites. I'm telling you, get some wine or your favorite drink (alcoholic or not), put your feet up, and enjoy this lovely lady's artistry!
Back Rooms (punk!Me from Playing It Cool) - @fineanddandy
Not only did she use the fabulous @nix-akimbo edit for this one, but she makes you question if loyalty to a friend is worth walking away from a guy that genuinely wants you.
A Different Kind of Love (Alpha!Andy & Beta!Jake) - @river-soul
Can you imagine having both Jake and Andy in an A/B/O world? Read this story and you won't have to imagine!
Wear Me Down (Ari Levinson) - @navybrat817
Her fight is commendable, but you can't fight fate!
The Valentine's Cock Up (Steve Rogers) - @drabblewithfrannybarnes
God, this makes me laugh just thinking about it!
Original Sin (Dark!Bryce Langley) - @stargazingfangirl18
This had to be my hardest pick yet. What can I say about this ridiculously talented author? She made me lust over Robert Pronge which I promise was not an easy feat. I went kicking and screaming, but I'm here. Honorable Mention to her latest series Necessary Arrangements & Devil's Advocate.
Good Little Wife (Soft!Dark!Mob!Andy Barber) - @donutloverxo
All of her stories have a sort of soft and gentle reader that the men trip over themselves to take care of. I love it!
Goodbye Again (Endgame!Steve Rogers & Avengers!Steve Rogers) - @sweetlyscared
I can go on all day about how much I love this story! The emotions, the love, the loss, gah!!! I'll never not reblog this story.
Snowed In (Ransom Drysdale) - @the-iceni-bitch
Another author who has me lusting over Robert Pronge! I love her Ransom stories, beginning with Snowed In, because while he's still an ass, his girl gives it back just as easily.
Renewing Vows (Dark!Steve Rogers) - @gotnofucks
Dibs is one of my favorite authors. She's one of the few authors on this site that when you read her stories, especially the dark ones, you feel the obsession and single-minded desire to possess you no matter the circumstances. I love how she incorporates her culture in some of her stories as well, particularly the Happily Ever After series. You know it's wrong, but seeing the Avengers in their desi apparel still makes me go, "aww! They really want to make her feel welcomed!" P.S. I really, really came close to choosing Murder at the Whorehouse!
Dark Assassin (Dark!Silverfox!Steve Rogers) - @kleohoneyao3
It took me forever to find this story again. I've always been attracted to older men, but Silverfox!Steve is the goat! My second favorite is Of the Earth.
Little Red series (Steve/Curtis/Andy/Ransom/Johnny) - @autumnrose40
This proud Omega always gives you the best C. Evans characters stories. And she's not afraid to push boundaries with different species(werewolves, mermen, octogods, etc). I'm always so happy to see she's posted something.
Creamsicle (Robert Pronge & Dark!Andy Barber) - @sapphirescrolls
I don't think I need to list Robert as dark, do I??? While she has a cornucopia of dark writings, this is my favorite!
I Have Questions (Steve Rogers) - @royallyprincesslilly
Accidentally dirty-talking Steve Rogers? Hell yeah!
Unhappily Married (Dark!Steve Rogers) - @cherienymphe
This is a wonderfully talented dark writer. I almost chose Twice Bitten several times because (1) she writes vampires the way they're meant to be written, and (2) Steve is so unapologetically hot and cold with the reader it makes me weep. But I do love kids (set in fiction only) and poor Nathan needs a real mother!
Hirsute (Werewolf!Andy Barber) - @avintagekiss24
Whew! This was tough. I literally love all her stories, particularly Blue Ocean Floor and her latest, 'with the weight of the world at the tips of my fingers.' There's a sleek elegance to her writing that is unmatched.
Let Me Teach You (Jake Jensen) - @vannybarber
Jake Jensen does not get enough love. Luckily, he's starting to come up. This writer gives him all the love and appreciation he deserves with this story.
Tell Me You Love Me (Steve Rogers) - @lotusss-flowerbomb
We all have pasts, but if you're going to let your co-workers get drunk around your girl, give her a heads up that you may or may not have hooked up with the gorgeous red-haired spy. Loved this so much!!
Mr. and Mrs. Ari Levinson Invite You to...the Worst Wedding. Ever. (Mob!Ari Levinson) - @caffiend-queen
I've never seen Ari written like this. He's wild and crazy and utterly addicted to his new little wife.
I loved everything about this wedding, especially the author letting us see the different Jewish wedding traditions. If you didn't love Ari before this story, you will after this story!
This was fun you guys! And it gives me a point of reference in case I once again lose some of the stories listed here.
As an added bonus, here are some of my favorite @nix-akimbo edits:

Dillom - POST MORTEM
(Pop Rap, Experimental Hip Hop, Hardcore Hip Hop)
Incredibly creative and full of personality, the debut album from Argentina's hip hop eccentric Dillom is full of twisted comedic turns and places him as one of the most charismatic performers of today's Latin scene. He questions what Latin rap can encompass, his melds of horrorcore and boom bap and hyphy bring exciting new blood to the clinic.
☆☆☆☆
How long has reggaeton been the staple sound of Latin rap now? I don't even remember when it really started hitting mainstream, but that's proof enough that it's been around for good while. When diving into the majority of records from Latin hip hop artists, it's the rhythm you expect to hear right from the first track, and it's led the sound to stagnate quite a bit. Even its biggest stars like Bad Bunny and Nicki Nicole aren't doing a whole lot to push the boundaries of the sound, and while not every artist needs that prerogative, it's hard to find much sonic diversity in the sound. Dillom changes that paradigm with POST MORTEM, his debut album that creatively deconstructs the expectations of Latin hip hop for a thrilling, uninhibited experience. Everything about Dillom screams individuality, from his bright boyish vocal presence to the strange beats he picks from. Produced largely by FERMIN and Lamarid, the range of grooves and moods Dillom encompasses is stunning for how early in his career this is: album hit singles PELOTUDA and OPA borrow from San Fransisco hyphy, whooping synths and bass-heavy rhythms carry Dillom's delightfully demented raps ("I'm blond and cute, like Seven Kayne," he taunts before flexing his expensive Dom Pérignon wine and lamenting just how alone he is with that same bottle next to him in the the tense, string-kissed finale), BICICLETA is the album's chewy pop rock highlight with little razor blades hidden in the chocolate core, and REALITY sounds like the inner dialogue of a mass murderer listening to Ye's Black Skinhead in his headphones. My first listen to POST MORTEM was some of the most fun I've had going through an album all year, Dillom making such broad and successful strokes with every one of these 18 songs. The screams of terror stitched into more than a few tracks here almost become exciting at the end, an electrifying reminder of the power and danger Dillom's music holds. Those bloody boom bap tunes PISO 13 and RILI RILI end up some of the best songs here because of it, painting the hair-trigger nature of his violent songwriting in both sound and words. It's crazy how many unexpected turns Dillom takes here, always getting bored of one sound and moving right to the next one. Being a part of the new rap scene growing up with the internet and short enough attention spans to swallow it all up, part of POST MORTEM's charm is that it never becomes intimidating. You're on the same team as Dillom, even if his intentions are scented like alcohol and unnecessary risk, and he's never unwilling to admit his own problems that are at the root of POST MORTEM's angst. His humor is close to crossing the boundaries every so often ("I'm going to die in Argentina, like Hitler!" is quite the way to imagine your own death), but it's in an effort for Dillom to let you know he doesn't give a single fuck about what anyone thinks. He turns his own dark past into comedic and outlandish stories that help remove some of the sting of the events from his mind (he even admits to as much on 220), so even when his relationships are torn by his drug abuse, it's never wallowing in shame or sorrow. His demons surround him on OPA, but he's concerned with getting himself to a place of security and power before trying to defeat them all, using his new platform to make killer music and get his first blow into his mental enemies at once. There's a voyeuristic feeling to it, in a way, witnessing Dillom contextualize his darkest moments like this, but that's simply a feature of his songs you have to accept if Dillom's work is to grab you. With his songs already racking up hundreds of thousands of streams, it seems Dillom's reimagining of what Latin rap can be has landed with audiences effortlessly, especially with a younger audience open to these less conventional sounds with the world at their fingertips. Pop music has become a bigger melting pot of sounds over the years, and the stars of countries outside the usual American music diet are quickly catching onto that, too. Dillom is one of the first in his peer group that succeeds in this regard, POST MORTEM a fully modernized image of the Latin rap scene without sacrificing any of Dillom's own character in the process. You either get it or you don't with POST MORTEM, and those looking for an accessible, yet free-spirited collection of today's mainstream contorted into nightmarish puppets under Dillom's control will get everything they could ever wish for from it. With a performer this lovable, how could you not get the bug he's spreading?

TOP 20 SONGS OF 2020
Tumblr media
20. “BELOW THE CLAVICLE”- EARTHEATER
“The meaning hasn’t come up yet. It’s still under the surface below the clavicle.”
It isn’t just Alexandra Drewchin’s ear splitting soprano when she hits that impossibly high B, practically shrieking out the “cle” syllable of clavicle, though that’s undoubtedly when I first knew that Eartheater’s avant folk was for me- it’s also the cinematic, lush strings, both bowed and plucked (is that acoustic guitar or harp? I genuinely can’t tell), deepening and complicating the sonic texture of Drewchin’s study of parsing through emotions you aren’t ready to make sense of yet.
Tumblr media
19. “PUSSY TALK”- CITY GIRLS, FT. DOJA CAT
“This pussy so ghetto, this pussy speak ebonics”
“WAP”’s funnier, classless Irish twin, though it’s important to note “Pussy Talk” came first. Yung Miami and JT enlist Doja Cat to expound on everything their pussies deserve and will absolutely settle for nothing less than. And why should they when they’re spitting out verses this inspiredly hilarious with such confidence and flow?
Tumblr media
18. “LICK IN HEAVEN”- JESSY LANZA
“Once I’m spinning, I can’t stop spinning...”
Jessy Lanza is talking about losing your cool, letting your emotions get the best of you and lashing out instead of letting cooler heads prevail, but when that earworm of a chorus hits- “once I’m spinning, I can’t stop spinning” - I can’t stop spinning. I’m that woman on the single art, a wine mom lost in the delirium of the dance floor and in Lanza’s hypnotic, fragmented rhythms.

17. “GASLIGHTER”- THE CHICKS
“Boy, you know exactly what you did on my boat!”
“Gaslighter” finds Natalie Ames and her Chicks at their most simultaneously ruthless and ebullient, ripping Ames’s ex-husband Adrian Pasdar a new asshole and ratcheting up the righteous anger of “Goodbye Earl” tenfold, channeling it into a glorious wall of sound in what might be their most rousing, emotionally resonant chorus in their storied career.
Tumblr media
16. “HANNAH SUN”- LOMELDA
“Hannah do no harm...”
While “Hannah Sun” begins as an exquisitely observed rumination on grappling with long-distance, pining for someone who’s a continent away, it gradually becomes clear that Hannah Read blames herself for putting the distance between her and the subject of her longing, and that the distance isn’t strictly literal. Skittering synths (or is that distorted flute?) complicate and enrich the texture of the song, allowing it to build organically and stunningly towards a heartbreaking plea to herself- “Hannah, do no harm.”
Tumblr media
15. “FIRE”- WAXAHATCHEE
“And when I turn back around will you drain me back out? Will you let me believe that I broke through?”
When I’d drive back and forth between Dallas and Austin over and over again when I was in college, I’d often get off I-35 past Waco and take the back roads through towns I’d never heard of, the sun setting spectacularly behind the titular hills of Hill Country that were beginning to roll out in earnest. I think about that a lot when listening to “Fire,” a song dripping in rural Americana that was, unsurprisingly, inspired by a road trip. We’ve probably all been Katie Crutchfield as she crossed the bridge into West Memphis- alone in the car, awed by the simple beauty of the American countryside, making speeches to ourselves about our past mistakes and figuring out a way forward.
Tumblr media
14. “3AM”- HAIM
“On the screen and in my jeans, just make me feel good.”
On an album full of genre departures and decidedly darker themes than we’ve typically heard from Haim in their near decade of syncopated bubblegum pop rock, “3AM” stands out not only as their most effective stab at pastiche, slipping into the trappings of contemporary R&B with shocking ease and gusto, but also as their most unabashedly fun track in their entire oeuvre. “I think you can hear the amount of joy and laughs we had making this song” Alana Haim tells Apple Music, and you absolutely can.
Tumblr media
13. “QADIR”- NICK HAKIM
“We’re sinking down a hole without thinking about our loved ones who might be shrinking...”
I often wonder if I’m putting enough effort into maintaining my relationships with friends I don’t see regularly, who live several time zones away, living their own lives while I live mine. When the thought of sustaining simple correspondence becomes overwhelming, it’s easy for months to go by before you realize you haven’t spoken to one of your closest friends. “QADIR” plays less like a eulogy for a friend gone too soon (though of course it is that) than a plea to the listener to put in the work. It’s worth it. You never know when it’ll be too late.
Tumblr media
12. “LEVITATING”- DUA LIPA
“Glitter in the sky, glitter in our eyes shining just the way we are.”
Just a few bars of that delightfully bouncy, extra-terrestrial beat is enough to launch me into space. It’s so refreshing to hear a song that remembers that pop is supposed to be joyful and is best when it’s a bit silly. When discussing this track with Apple Music, Dua Lipa cites Austin Powers as inspiration, elaborating that “if I do a video for this, Mike Meyers has to be in it.” Can’t you just see them together, performing a farcical pas de deux of seduction like the spiritual successor to “Beautiful Stranger?”
Tumblr media
11. “RIQUIQUI”- ARCA
“Love in the face of fear! Fear in the face of God!”
Arca’s made a career of harnessing chaos and somehow making sense of it. On an album that finds her embracing more traditional, accessible song structures, “Riquiqui” is a reminder that even when working within an AB structure, she’s still breaking rules left and right and having a blast doing it. She’s also never sounded so ferociously empowered in either her femininity or in her Venezuelan identity, rattling off local colloquialisms with affection and verve without a second thought as to who’s going to understand it.
Tumblr media
10. “FANTASY”- AGAINST ALL LOGIC
“I think about you all the time...”
Or, the musical embodiment of this gif:
Tumblr media
When Nicolas Jaar’s tormented synths and crunching beats give way to Beyoncé’s unmistakable alto, it is indeed quite the shock. But should it be? Even if 2017-2019 finds him ditching the dancefloor in favor of more severe, unforgiving soundscapes, his already varied career has shown us nothing’s off limits to him. So why not reinvent Beyoncé’s iconic “Baby Boy” into an industrial, vaguely sinister certified bop that arguably surpasses the original?
Tumblr media
9. “PEOPLE, I’VE BEEN SAD”- CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS
“If you disappear, then I’m disappearing, too.”
“People, I’ve been sad” plays out with the vulnerability and intimacy of a tumblr text post you put out in the middle of the night, only to hastily delete later when it gets no notes. It forgoes flowery language in favor of just getting to the point. “I’ve been sad.” Héloïse Adelaïde Letissier blows up this deceptively simple sentiment with richly layered textures and a big screen gloss not to offer any remedies but instead to offer solidarity. We’re all in this hell together.
Tumblr media
8. “DESCRIBE”- PERFUME GENIUS
“Can you just find him for me?”
Mike Hadreas has never sounded so hopeless. Utilizing harsh, rattling guitar that would make Kevin Shields swoon, he conveys the experience of being so estranged from happiness and joy that you need to rely on others to describe the sensation to you. But how, when exploring darker textures than he ever has before, does he make despondency sound so divine?
Tumblr media
7. “4 AMERICAN DOLLARS”- U.S. GIRLS
“No matter how much you get to have, you will still die and that’s the only thing.”
Meg Remy picks up where she left off on “4 American Dollars,” reviving the subversive pastiche she mastered on In a Poem Unlimited, this time harnessing the power of funk to dismantle the fallacies we’re taught about the virtues of capitalism. Heavy stuff, but Remy makes it less didactic than joyous, ensuring the listener will be singing “I don’t believe in pennies and nickels and dimes and dollars and pesos and pounds and rupees and yen and rubles” until they start to wonder if maybe they shouldn’t, either.
Tumblr media
6. “STUPID LOVE”- LADY GAGA
“I freak out, I freak out, I freak out, I freak out!”
Due to a healthy spirit of contrarianism mixed with a touch of internalized homophobia and genuine bafflement at her universal appeal and praise, I was a proud Lady Gaga hater for as long as she’d been a cultural entity. I just didn’t get her at all and loved that about myself. Annoying, I know. 2020 was the year I was finally ready to let that all go. Just before the world fell apart in March, I was out at Flaming Saddles (RIP) with friends the night this song came out and by the sixteenth time it played, I understood why it was inducing such hysteria. This was a cultural shift. After a frustrating near-decade of Gaga subverting expectations so thoroughly that she was actively working against her strengths and sabotaging her cultural ubiquity in the process, coupled with the most frightening era of political upheaval in our lifetimes, she was finally ready to save us and be Lady Gaga again. Booming synth, drag sensibilities, absurd thematic conceits- all was right in the world. For the first time in a long time, people had something to be hopeful about, and as I danced that night, I felt that hope, too.
Tumblr media
5. “SHELLFISH MADEMOISELLE”- RÓISÍN MURPHY
“How dare you sentence me to a lifetime without dancing?”
As soon as that bass starts (the funkiest bassline in the history of music?) it’s like Róisín Murphy’s snake charming oboe, coaxing even the most stalwart curmudgeon onto the dancefloor and keeping them there, dancing frantically and involuntarily like the citizens of Strasbourg in 1518, trying their best to keep up with Murphy who isn’t even breaking a sweat, commanding the masses with a sultry remove, beckoning you closer, pulling you inexorably deeper into the mass of gyrating bodies and whispering in your ear “come and have a dance with yer mum.”
Tumblr media
4. “PARTY 4 U”- CHARLI XCX
“I only threw this party for you...”
As PC Music / Bubblegum Bass / whatever you want to call it enters its second decade, Charli XCX proves not only that there’s still new textures to explore within it, but also that no one can exploit its artifice to get down to emotional truths like she can. How can she make something this slick sound so vulnerable? “I only threw this party for you” she croons over and over again over glorious syncopated synths that build exquisitely, reaching their climax only to immediately fall away, until it’s just her and her trusty autotune, pleading with the subject of the song to just come to the damn party. But they won’t, of course. They never do, do they?
Tumblr media
3. “WAP”- CARDI B, FT. MEGAN THEE STALLION
“I want you to touch that lil’ dangly thing that swing in the back of my throat!”
Sometimes you just immediately know you’re living through a significant cultural moment. No, not COVID. I’m talking about the experience of hearing Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s instant classic “WAP” for the first time, a titanic meeting of the minds that finds both of them at the apex of their cultural influence and at their most undeniable. Can the argument be made that these two aren’t the two best rappers in the game right now? How could you hear this inspiredly filthy sex positive juggernaut, where Cardi and Megan are trading the sickest verses of their careers, and not think these two deserve the world?
Tumblr media
2. “KEROSENE!”- YVES TUMOR
“I can be your baby in real life, sugar. I can live in your dreams.”
If the 2010′s were all about the pop-ification of all music, trading in live instrumentation in favor of polished synths, 2020 forcefully announced the return of the electric guitar when Yves Tumor and Diana Gordon’s back and forth lustfully submissive declarations of desire suddenly gave way to that nasty guitar rip lifted from Uriah Heep’s “Weep in Silence” to announce yet another cultural shift in a year chock full of them- rock and roll was, indeed, here to stay.
Tumblr media
1. “I WANT YOU TO LOVE ME”- FIONA APPLE
“I move with the trees in the breeze, I know that time is elastic.”
We live and we learn. Years spent soul searching and on self-discovery shape us into better, smarter people, progressively knowing and understanding ourselves and the world around us more and more clearly, but Fiona Apple knows that none of that can quell the ferocious desire to be loved by someone. By anyone. By you, whoever that is. We can know that time is elastic and that when we’re gone all our particles will disband and disperse and then we’ll be back in the pulse, and we can know that none of this stuff actually matters, but still- we want, we want, we want.
