Imperfection
Suhoxreader. In Seoul, South Korea a new science company was built, it is very exclusive to only the hardest workers. You go there to help others and to be with your friends whom you’d die for. Until something happens. Something terribly wrong. In the midst of this terror will you also find love with Suho the Kpop singer who just happens to be going through the the same horror as you? … When you have everything, that is when you are the weakest.
This thought slips into your mind as you wake up. If you’re not busy that’s all you can think about. That’s all you think of because when you were younger you were always alone. Sure when you were in elementary school you would talk to someone or go to birthday. But no one really cared for you in the way you wanted. You kept your secrets locked down because of something you didn’t want to be discovered about your family and you hid from the family members who tried to reach you. “Are you all right?” They would ask, and every time you would smile and say “I’m fine.”
Instead of becoming a scientist I should’ve become an actress.
You finally think that last thought before getting ready. Your apartment is filled with morning light. The walls are painted white but due to the poor care from the previous owners the walls gray cement is now clearly shown through the imperfections of the aging paint.
I love imperfections, they make everything so much more real. They show what’s really underneath everything.
That’s what you always thought, you think as you graze your hand onto a piece of that smooth white paint, that when in appearance someone seems perfect that someone can in truth be damaged. But that damage, you think, as your hand then grazes across to the peeling paint, is what makes us up to be what we are and what makes us real. Your hand then reaches to the gray, and when you’ve finally discovered that damage… that is when you know someone. Not just the perfect persona they try so desperately to amplify to the world.
Luckily I have found those people who can see through my imperfections.
Those people would be your friends, they know who you are and you know who they are. You know the curvature of their smiles and they know about how easily you blush under awkward situations. You know of the fire within their souls, for each has their passions, and they know of your strong will to get through everyday. They know of your secret. But for you the most important information they know about you is that you would sooner die than have any of them hurt.
And even though that is the everything that keeps you weak, you’re willing to eat breathe and live for those people all around you. Even the people who can’t see the gray within your chipped paint.
You look out into the street from the apartment that is lifted high above the ground. It’s 7 and the streets are already filled with people. These people who don’t stop and think about life, but that is how it is in every city in every country in every continent. Seoul is no exception. Even though you hate cities and hate the bustle this was the place where the new and most exclusive laboratory for scientists like you can help people. Help make a difference. Once you heard about that amazing job opportunity, how could you say no. Plus your friends were accepted to, all of you could go and delve into your passions.
The problems though you think as you ruffle your hair is that you don’t understand Korean. Your a foreigner. And you’re in love with Kpop. You don’t want your overseers to find out though, because would they keep you? No, because let’s face it would a person who loves Kpop who is 23 go to work or to a concert. That is what they would think. Only you are the type to work every single chance you have… of course while listening to Kpop.
You finally head to the bathroom and wash off your face. Your face is not dazzling or like a models and there’s blemishes on your face, that doesn’t mean your not attractive though. Your eyes are pretty, lighting with a strong fire for determination, passion, and an innocence. That’s what you’ve always liked best, not your looks, or your smarts but the passion of learning and helping others.
The clothes you wear are from the company. A pair of black pants are long and a bit too small for you, but otherwise comfortable. Along with that a white shirt that is long and a bit too big, but otherwise comfortable. Once you tuck in the white shirt, put on some black flats and place on your I.D you’re out on the street walking to work.
“Y/N! I’m over here!” You hear a voice call out to you. It’s Maple. Just like her name everything about her is like maple. Her eyes are like it’s clear green leaves with pretty circular dew drops on them. Her hair are different shades of brown just like the trunks. And her smell is like maple syrup freshly extracted from that beautiful tree. Everything about her is so innocent. Maple is waving out to you now whilst running to you with her arms wide open.
“I’ve missed you.” You smell her sweet hair and you hug her back. Even though she’s a year older than you she is shorter than you while she’s wearing heels. Another thing you love about her is her child-like behavior.
“We saw each other yesterday. You know when I came to Korea and you drove me and Jolene to our different apartments.” It has been a year before yesterday that I was able to see Maple in person since she also moved here last year. So I understand but she’s so cute that I wanted to see what her reaction would be.
“Still, I missed you.” She looks up still clinging to me with doe eyes. Yep, definitely cute, you think while you know you’re smiling like a dork. She then let’s me go and instead grabs my hand. “Come on. I’ll show you your viral department.”
She takes me to what is the department I’m going to be working at. It wasn’t until I got inside the actual buildings that you realized how many departments there are. According to Maple’s tour there are twenty different departments. You already knew everything about this place before you got here, not just from studying but from Maple telling her about it. Maple had discussed about how Human Advances, this company, had the largest building dedicated wholly to science. This building is also the thickest and tallest building in the world. But everyone already knew about that. She also said that thanks to Human Advances thousands of jobs became available for a stable payment for the young, new minds of our generation. You found yourself loving this company’s CEO. Another good reason you came here.
Soon the tour was over and Maple dropped you off at the Viral department. Before leaving she whispered in your ear two very important things
Firstly, “In a week you’ll become the highest ranking official in the Viral department, just like I became one for the Alternate Energy Resources department” Secondly, this made your ears turn red , “Suho’s going to be here to make an ad for applying for jobs here.” As she said this she skipped away feeling accomplished with making you blush like crazy.
Suho has always been your celebrity crush. Not just because you thought he was hot, which yes he is, but that he got out of school in a very high ranking, which of course you had to beat.(which you did beat.) Not just that he is clearly smart but his personality is so hopeful, always smiling. He was basically your inspiration in life and though you know you won’t know him or his imperfections. But you know he’s what kept you inspired and who helped you open up to the people you couldn’t live without.
The reason why I fought and why I won was because of his strength that he offered with only his smile.
You wait for your blush to calm down before entering the Viral department. Inside you are greeted by Jolene who came with you to Korea. She’s more shy than you but is probably the smartest person in the building. Her hair is black and sleeked into a braid, she’s hiding her pretty obsidian eyes by staring into the ground. “Hey, Jolene.” I whisper softly. She’s so gentle that I feel as though she’s a deer that may get spooked if I speak too loudly. “It’s so nice here. All the people are really nice. And I’m glad you’re here.” She’s says this as she looks up towards you and smiles sweetly. She is the same height as you but she has more curves than you do. Her voice is like silk and every time you heard her sing it lulled you to sleep because it sounded just like soft rain and birds tweeting on a nice sunny morning.
I met with my overseer who seemed kind enough, he had a translator be my personal assistant. She was nice also. The translator told me I could just call her Yeong and that my bosses name is Mr. Choi. I said my thanks to my boss for offering me the job and bowed to him as deeply as I could. Although I can not speak Korean or write Hangul I worked very hard on learning the customs of the people. You went right to work. Yeong brought a list of outbreaks in places and the symptoms at each place. You were asked to write what type of outbreaks they could be. You were ready for this. In about 45 mins you were done with the possible three types of virus’, how these viruses started, (taking in for account the geography) and the vaccines that must be use to treat those cases. You also put in references from the 343 college textbooks you’ve memorized front to back. There were each 260 cases that you were given. The work that would’ve kept someone in for a whole day and a night had been completed in 45 minutes. That’s because you are best in your field and that’s why you are there.
You look over to see Jolene struggling a bit. She’s smarter than even you but you know the reason why she sometimes struggles is because she lacks confidence, but even with that she has a love for learning that you admire so much about her. “Since we’re done for the day, you can go home after giving these reports to my higher ups who will check over my work. Don’t worry though. There are no mistakes.” I look up at Yeong who is flipping through my work in disbelief. “What is she an animal.” She says this in Korean but she doesn’t know I at least looked over the Korean dictionary before coming here on the plane. But yes, I’d consider myself an animal when it comes to my work. Yeong then leaves with my reports and walks toward what I know as my higher ups offices.
I guess Maple is right, I might just get that promotion.
You smile to yourself as you realize it’s break time.
You can’t wait to see Autumn who has off. You haven’t seen her in person in two years and you weren’t able to see her when you first came to Korea also. She’s second in charge behind the CEO so you understand why. You walk calmly out to the roof where she texted you’d meet. You can feel my heart beating though! You can’t wait to see her! For you she’s your mother. Between you, Jolene and Maple she’s always been the mother and you were the eldest sister who was always very protective of Jolene and Maple. You can see it now as you walk into a pretty garden in the back, Autumns pretty wild red hair flowing in the breeze with her green hazel eyes gazing into the sky and not mind being blinded by the sun. That’s the way you’d look at the sky with her. But just as you walk into the garden on the roof you get a text.
“Hey, I have to do some extra work, but I’ll definitely treat you to some dessert”
She didn’t even have enough time to write a period. Oh well, as long as she helps others. You sigh but still walk to the back of the garden. You look out into the sky letting the sun blind you whilst pulling out a granola bar you kept in your pocket. You eat it peacefully and just as your about to turn around you come face to face with someone. He’s wearing a suit and a paper mouth covering. I can’t tell out the details of him because of the sun blinding me. He then speaks but it’s a bit muffled by the mask. “Do you speak Korean” he asked in English. You replied. “No, do you need any help though.” He shook his head and then looked out into the sky. “It’s very pretty, isn’t it.” You say. It would be awkward if we didn’t speak and he was right next to you. “Yes, it is.” He says this and you turn but he wasn’t looking at the sky anymore. He was looking at you. “I love how the sky is,” you find yourself saying. You don’t know why either but this person feels familiar, safe. “Because no matter what type of sky it is. Whether it’s raining, clear, cloudy, or snowing, it always has a brilliant sun that no matter where anyone is or how visible it is its always there.” What you were saying reminded you of Autumn. No matter how sad or happy you were she’s always there. She was always you’re sun. “You aren’t talking about the sun are you?” I nod my head. I feel comfortable with him and with the sun making my skin warm and comfy. “Do you have a boyfriend?” He asks slowly and when I turn back to him and not the sky I swear his face is slightly blushed. “No, don’t worry. No ones going to get jealous if you talk to me. My friend, more like a mom really was who I was talking about.” “Oh. And she’s not always seen but she still supports you, she’s you’re center?” He asks. “Yes. It’s more than friendship or love when someone becomes you’re center. They become everything.” You say this and smile. You then feel a blush to come on. You cover you’re cheeks.
Why am I telling him so much about me?
You think this as you stare into him. The details of him become a bit clearer, such that he has a thick head of hair and that he has large brown eyes that I realize are moist.
Is he… crying?
“That must be amazing. To have someone be your center, your everything. The people that I’ve tried to care for leave me. What if it’s my fault.” You realize then that he is sobbing. You know why I felt comfortable with him. It’s because of his imperfections. Between his shyness and sadness. You know this person and now you have to keep him safe. Without thinking you hug him. You wrap my arms around his neck. He’s taken aback as he doesn’t hug me. You then whisper into his ear. “It’s okay. No matter what someone is always willing to listen to to you and keep you as their center.” You realize that I’ve started to cry. You haven’t cried in months, but here is someone who has been lonely like you were in the past who has made you sob like a child. You think that when he hears you crying that is the moment he holds onto you. Your heart starts to skip beats and you can hear his heart skipping. A feeling of warmth and a feeling of love starts to spread through you that is unlike the type you share with you’re friends, this one is different.
I want to hold him forever
You hold each other for a good while until both of you had stopped crying. For a couple of minutes you just stared at each other. The tears still moist in you’re eyes prevented you from fully seeing who you’ve felt this connection that may be love.
“Sir we need you. The ad is ready…” A voice from a pretty woman says behind us.
Wait ad… Don’t tell me…
“You’re…”
Suho.
