— 1. SHE FALLS FROM THE STAIRS
The rays of the sun that managed to pass through the blinds are now falling on her boyfriend's face. He looks so peaceful, lying here in his bed in the lake house, surrounded by his family, his loved ones. She has noticed he is more relaxed than he was during the season.
Amara knows pretty well how much stress is pressed on him. Jack is the type of person, who always blames himself for the team's losses. She knows him well, and when he was out with an upper-body injury she saw how hard he took that his team was really bad on it.
Now, he is lying next to her, his features relaxed and softened, she hadn’t seen him like this in many months. Smiling she traces her finger across his cheeks, down his jaw, and to his neck, where she stops, resting her hand here.
“You know I can feel you staring?” his raspy morning voice touches her ears. A small smile tugged at his lips as her fingers danced on the skin of his neck.
“I know, I’m just admiring your handsome face.” She whispers, placing soft kisses on his chest.
“Yeah?” he whispers out, his eyes still closed. He tightens his grip on her, pulling her more onto him. “You think I’m handsome?”
“Why else would I be with you?” she says teasingly, a grin forming on her lips as she watches him open one eye, to look at her, immediately closing it because of the sun.
“Oh, I thought you were with me because of my hockey career and money.” He chuckles teasingly, tickling her sides gently.
“Yeah, that too,” she laughs pinching his cheek. “But you're hot and I wanted to prove to myself, and actually to others, that someone like me can have a hot guy.”
“You, know, you can have every guy you want,” he whispers, kissing her forehead. “You’re hot. You’re the most incredible woman I’ve ever met. You’re kind to everyone, even though you don’t like them. And the way you’re with kids, every kid loves you so much. And when you help retirees cross the crosswalk, I don't understand how such an angel can exist on earth.” A loving smile resting on his lips.
“We should get up,” she rolls off from him after a few minutes just staring at each other. “Everyone is probably awake, it's 8:50.” You murmur as you slip out of bed, walking over to the closet to get out her red bikini and Jack’s shirt with his baseball shorts.
Jack sits on the edge of the bed watching her dress up. A slap lands on her right ass cheek when she’s putting on the bikini bottom.
“Mine.” He growls, kneading her ass.
“Yours.” She slaps his hands away, throwing his shirt and shorts on him.
“Hurry up, I’m hungry!” she says as she walks over to the bathroom, to wash her face and make her skincare routine.
Jack chuckles to himself, as he watches Amara walk in the bathroom, her hips swaying, causing a groan left his lips.
“Little tease.” He mumbles to himself shaking his head as he pulls the shirt over his head, a smile never leaving his lips. He doesn’t understand, how he manages to be loved by this amazing woman. With a smile, he walks over to the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe as he watches Amara sway her hips and hum a song under her nose. “Looking amazing, Berry!” watching her bend over the sink, as she washed her face from the cleanser.
“Thank you.” She grins up at him, water dripping from her face.
“Okay, I’m going down, okay,” Jack smiled at her, caressing her back. “When you’re done, come, I’ll make you a plate with food.”
“Thank you, baby.” A grateful smile lingers on her lips as she watches his back as he leaves his room.
As soon as she’s done with her skincare routine, she gets on the shirt and shorts she prepared earlier, takes her phone from the nightstand, and makes her way out of the room.
Looking down at her phone, she starts stepping down the stairs, chuckling over a message she just received on Tumblr, from one of her friends. Not careful enough, she trips over her leg. Her eyes grew wide, when she saw the stairs in front of her face, falling straight on them. She yelps in pain, as she rolls down the stairs.
“Amara!” Jack's eyes widen in horror as he sees his girlfriend falling down the stairs. He gets from the chair abruptly, causing it to fall with a thud, but he doesn’t care as he runs to her, dropping to his knees, and immediately pulling her in him. “What happened?” he asks her, but she doesn’t answer tears rolling down her cheeks her eyes closed shut. “Are you hurt?” She slowly shakes her head but winces in pain.
“Her knees.” Luke points to her blooded knees while he’s sitting next to her looking for other injuries.
“I’m coming for the first Aid kit,” Ellen says, rushing over to the kitchen, Jim following right behind her.
“Baby, look at me!” Jack let out desperately. He needs to see she’s okay. “Please.” He begs, caressing her cheek. She turns at him, her eyes red from the tears and her lips turned into a frown.
“My legs hurt.” She cries out, hiding her face in Jack’s chest.
“I know, baby, I know,” he sighs kissing the top of her head. “We’ll clean it up, and it’ll be alright, okay, love?” He coos her kissing her tears away. She nods her head, taking in a deep breath.
“So, ebfarfasing.” She mumbles in his chest, inhaling his scent.
“What?” Jack looks at Amara confused.
“We’re here!” Ellen shouts dropping to her knees next to Amara. “This will hurt a little honey!” sadness in her voice while she pulls out disinfection and cotton squares and plaster with spiderman. They all laugh at that. “Okay, this will sting a little bit.” She pours a little of the disinfection on the cotton square, carefully placing it on Amara’s blooded knees.
“Ow!” she winces, gripping Jack and Quinn’s hands hard.
“It’ll be okay, love,” Jack says painfully. He hates seeing his girl in pain. He is used to her clumsiness, but something like this has never happened, till today. Every time something was about to happen, he was there to catch her before she fell, he was there to catch the thing, that was about to break, or other things. This time, he wasn’t here, and that made him sick. “Just a minute.”
Amara leans into his chest, biting hard on her lower lip, when Ellen puts more disinfection on her wounds.
“Almost done, Ara!” Ellen announced sticking out her hand for Jim to place the plasters in. She places a clean square on the wound, which is then covered with a plaster. “There you go!”
“Thank you, Mrs. Hughes,” Amara says politely, wiping her tears away.
“No need, honey.” Ellen pats her tight, she stands up, with Jim's help, not that she needs any help, and takes the first aid kit with her to the kitchen.
“Luke, Quinn, please leave us alone for a minute. We’ll come to the breakfast in a minute,” Jack asks them, a concerned look on his face. He needs to know what happened, that she fell.
“Yeah, sure.” Quinn nods, he stands up, dragging Luke away.
“Amara, what happened?” Jack slightly caresses her legs, turning her around so he can see her facial expressions.
“I—I uhm…I wasn’t paying attention. I was on my phone, laughing over one message and my leg slipped or something, and then I was down.” A nervous laugh leaves her mouth, as she looks at him from under her lashes.
“Berry, you have to be more careful,” a sigh left his mouth just when he placed his hands on her tights. “I’m not here all the time to save you.”
“I know, it’s just hard with my personality and everything.” Guilt was written over her face, her eyes never leaving his.
There is comfortable silence between the two of them, as they stare into each other's eyes, when Amara’s eyes widen and she hides her head in her hands, groaning. “This is so embarrassing,” tears forming in her eyes. “They’ll think I'm completely stupid and can't even walk down the stairs.” One tear slipped over the edge rolling down her cheek.
“Oh, no baby, they won’t,” Jack wipes the tear away giving her a reassuring look. “They already love you, and they know you have ADHD. I know it wasn’t my place to tell them, but mom asked me about you a lot, and my brothers follow you on Instagram and know about it, so…” he trails off, smiling lovingly at her.
“No, that’s okay, I get it.” She kissed his lips quickly and rested his forehead on his. “And thank you.” You smile at him softly, looking deep into his blue eyes.

— 2. SHE ACCIDENTALLY DROPS THE BOTTLE OF WINE
Sitting by the bonfire at the lake house with the Hughes family and the guys' friends is so comforting and calming for Amara. She’s snuggled in Jack’s arms, her eyes slightly closed as she breathes in his comforting scent and silently listens to their conversation.
She feels Jack drawing small patterns on her bare tight, as his chest moves with his beautiful laughter. A small smile tugged at her lips at the sound of his laughter. He pulls her more into him his chin resting on her shoulder, and his hands slide down on her ass holding her close to him.
“Do we have another beer?” Trevor asks, causing Amara’s eyes to shoot open. She straightens her back, rubbing her eyes. Jack shoots Trevor an unpleasant glare, that he woke her up.
“Yeah, it’s in the fridge,” Luke mumbles his eyes glutted to his phone as he’s hurriedly texting to someone. “I’ll get it, I want one too anyway.”
“No, you stay, I’ll get it!” Amara says quickly, trying to stand up from Jack’s lap. However, he pulls her back shaking his head.
“You ain’t going anywhere.” He mumbles in her ear, placing a soft kiss on her neck.
“No, it’s okay! I’m tired, so I’ll go to sleep after that.” smiling at him,  she kisses his lips and stands up. Slowly she makes her way into the house yawning.
Jack’s eyes are pinned on her back, watching her walk inside. Her hips sway slightly, and Jack’s shirt she’s wearing ends right below her ass, causing his cock to twitch in his shorts. He shook his head, throwing his thought to the back of his mind, his eyes moving to Trevor who’s smirking at him.
“What?” Jack asks him, brows furrowed in v shape, trying to search for some explanation in his eyes.
“Just, she’s kinda…” he starts waving his hands in the air, causing Jack's brows to furrow even more, as he waits for him to finish his sentence. “Unique, I guess. But I like her, she’s funny, smart, and hot, so,” a wide smile resting on Trevor’s lips as he watched Jack’s expression soften.  He likes the way he’s around Amara. He’s a completely new person. Good person. He’s laughing so much more often than he was before her, he’s shining with love and happiness, which makes Trevor so happy. He likes this new him.
“Thank you, Z,” he nods his head, relief written all over his face. He’s glad that his best friend likes her because she means the world to him. “Means a lot, that you like her.”
“I know, J. I’m glad you’re happy and in love.”
“That was cheesy, Trevor,” Jack laughs just like the rest of the guys, who were listening to them. “Even for you.”
“Oh, shut up, you asshole! I was confessing my feelings and you just had to make fun of me!” Trevor pouts his lips, causing the guys to laugh even more. While the guys are laughing, Amara is getting out the beers from the fridge on the counter, so she can take them out. She pulls out a wine bottle, to get out the rest of the beers, but when she wants to put it on the counter, the bottle slips down, shattering into a million pieces.
Amara immediately gets down, tears forming in her eyes at her clumsiness, as she starts picking up the pieces of glass. Her eyes snap up when she hears some footsteps running down the stairs and inside the house, cutting her palm. The first who find her are Jim and Ellen, who when she sees Amara sitting on the floor, her palm covered in blood while she’s still trying to collect the glass, run over to her, to get her on her feet, throwing the glass in her palms in the trash.
In a few seconds, the guys are inside too, Jack’s eyes wide in panic. What doesn’t help him, is the sight of Amara’s bloody hand.
“What happened, dear?” Ellen asks her in a steady whisper tone, to calm her down.
“I—I uhm… I went to get the beers for the boys, and I had to take the wine bottle out, to the last two, but… uhm… but the bottle slipped from the counter and fell down,” she whispers tears running down her cheeks, as Ellen, washes her hand from the blood to see the cut. “I’m so sorry, I’ll buy you a new—“ Ellen stops her, shaking her head.
“No need, darling. Things happen. I don’t care about the wine, I didn’t even like this one,” she chuckles, looking into Amara’s eyes. She let out a quiet laugh, wiping the tears from her face with her good hand. “Okay, it’s not deep, so I just put a plaster on it and I’m sure it’ll be fine in a few days.” Ellen caresses her arm, getting the plasters. At that moment, Jack makes his way to Amara, his hands taking hold of hers.
“You okay, love?”
“Yeah,” she nods, looking down at the floor. The boys already cleaned it, throwing the glass in the trash. “I’m sorry,” she sighs dropping her head down. “I’m just embarrassing you, in front of your family and friends.”
“Don’t,” he shook his head. “You’re not embarrassing me. And even if you were. I don’t care,” he lifts her chin upward, so he can see her eyes. “I love you, the way you are. And that won’t change, berry.” He leans in kissing her forehead but backs up when his mom comes with the first aid kit.
“Thank you, Mrs. Hughes.” She says the same phrase a second time during those two weeks.
“No need, Amara.” She caresses your cheek, sending her a comforting smile.  She looks around, trying to find her boy, but instead, she’s met with weird faces from everyone in the room except from Jack and Ellen.
Exactly what she thought. Everyone thinks she’s not enough for Jack and is just embarrassing him.
With head hung low she bid goodnight to everyone, ignoring Jack's look, she kissed his cheek quickly, walking to his room.
“Really, thanks, guys, you couldn't make it more obvious.” Jack shook his head, running up the stairs to his room.
“What did we do?” Luke looks around at his mom, a confused look on his face.
“You were staring, Luke. I thought you knew how she was when you knew her longer than the boys…” Ellen sighs, as she makes her way past the boys and Jim to their room, so she can go back to her sleep.
“I still don’t get it.” Luke sighs, leaning his back on the counter and looking at the boys and his dad.
“She was embarrassed, Luke, and you kept staring at her,” Quinn says, pouring water in a glass. “And I may not know her long, but I can see how hard she tries to get along with us, and how hard she wants us to like her,” He drinks up the water, heading slowly to the stairs. “Anyway, I’m tired, I'm gonna call it a day.” He says waving to them and making his way up to his room. When he walks past Jack's door, he stops to find out what's going on.
“Baby!” Jack’s voice is full of nervosity and fear. “No, stop! I said it before, and I tell it now. I don’t care if my friends or my family don’t like you. I love you the way you are.” Quinn can hear the love in Jack’s voice as he speaks to her. Also, he can hear the fear of losing the love of his life.
“No, Jack. One day, you’ll realize, just like your family and friends, that I’m not enough for you. And you’ll leave me.” Amara sobs, her voice is shaky and quiet.
“Fuck!” Quinn curses, his head hanging low. He can’t let this happen. He sees in Jack’s eyes how much he loves Amara. The way he always catches her, when she’s about to fall, or when he has his hand on her lower back when she’s balancing on the edge of the curb or on the edge of the outdoor fireplace.
“No, I won’t! Baby, you have to trust me! I love you with everything I have in my heart,” Quin can hear Amara’s sobs, which are slowly stopping. “I love you so much, my berry. So fucking much!” the tears are now hearable in Jack’s voice too.
“I love you too.” She chokes on her words. Jack can’t keep his hands off of her. He brings her into his embrace, peppering her face with kisses.
“I love you, I love you, I love you!” he mumbles after every kiss he plants on her face, making a laugh escape her lips. “I swear to god, if you ever say something like this again, I might die!” he whispers against her lips as he kisses her gently.

— 3. SHE ALMOST DROWNS HERSELF IN THE LAKE
“MOM!” Luke yells when he gets on the boat, running towards you and his parents.
“What is it, Luke?” she sighs, looking up at him from her phone.
“Nothing.” He grins earning a smack from his dad on the back of his head. “Ow, what was that for?” he looks at Jim offended, scratching the back of his head.
“For being an asshole.” Jim grins at him.
“Amara, tell ‘em I’m not an asshole!” he looks at Amara, sitting next to her, pulling her in a hug, getting her all wet.
“Luke! You’re an asshole!” she squeaks, trying to get out of his hold. “Get off of me!” she laughs, smacking his bare chest when he doesn’t leave her.
“No! Not until you tell them I’m not an asshole!” he says, laughing with her when he tries to tickle her.
“Okay! Okay! You’re not an asshole!” she says between her laughs as she tries to get from his hold. Jim and Ellen watch them with a happy sparkle in their eyes. They like how’s Amara with their boys, they can see Luke’s smile whenever Amara acts like his older sister. Or the smile on Quinn’s face when she makes fun of herself just to make Jack laugh. But the most important thing they love about her is the way she loves Jack.
Ellen nudges Jim’s arm pointing her chin towards Jack, who is watching Amara and Luke with a big smile on his face.
“I like her.” She whispers in his ear, kissing his cheek lightly. Jim turns his head so he can look her in the eyes.
“Yeah, I like her too. She’s a bit clumsy and all but I guess that’s the ADHD.” He smiles back at her kissing her lips.
“Oh, come on! There are kids on the boat!” Quinn starts, gagging fakely at the interaction of his parents.
“Oh, shut up Quinn!” Jim shoots him a playful smirk, showing him a middle finger. Amara looks at Jim, laughing at his smirk together with Elen.
“Okay. Stop it, you two! Quinn, go cool yourself!” Elen points her hand to the lake with a playful smile on her lips. Luke lets out a snort, his arms still around her waist. He likes to be in her presence. “And you don’t laugh! You’re going too!” she looks over at Luke who is looking at her offended a gasp leaving his mouth. Ellen sends him a playful glare, ushering him to go into the lake.
“Luke stands up and starts walking after Quinn, but he turns around with a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. She raises your brow in confusion straightening herself. It’s only when he’s a few steps from her that she realizes what he’s thinking about.
“No, Luke!” she shook her head, trying to back more in the couch, she was sitting on. “Don’t you dare,” Amara’s voice is shaky from the fear of Luke throwing her to the lake. “I swear to God, Luke Warren Hughes! If you throw me in the lake I will—“ she yells out when Luke throws her over his shoulder, runs to the edge of the boat, and jumps in the lake.
She can feel the cold water on her skin as Luke jumps with her in the lake. His body weight drags her further into the deep, panic filling her eyes, when she sees him swimming up on the surface.
When the boys, hear the water splashing, they laugh, because the last thing they can see is Luke’s head, but when Jack looks over to the boat, expecting his girl standing on the edge, watching Luke jump in, panic fills his eyes. Not that she’s not standing here, but his parents are standing there, worry in their eyes, when Luke emerges from the water, and they don’t see Amara.
“Mom!” Ellen’s head whips in the direction of her middle son, seeing the panic and worry in his eyes. She takes in a sharp breath, no need for words, Jack swims over to where is Luke looking for Amara.
Quinn, who’s watching his brother in confusion, looks around noticing that Amara is missing. He lets out a curse, dipping his head underwater, swimming in the deep to find her. In a matter of few seconds, the rest of the boys are swimming towards them helping to find Amara.
The first to see her is Quinn. Immediately he swims to her, his eyes fill with panic when he sees Amara waving her hands in an attempt to get herself up. As soon as he’s shoulder-length away from Amara, he immediately grabs her hand and pulls her to his chest. Amara wraps her arms around his neck and legs around his waist clinging onto him for her dear life, as he swims with her to the surface. Amara’s coughs fill the area as soon as they get out from under the water. She gasped for air, her eyes teary from the lack of air she had.
“I’ve got you!” Quinn says in her ear, his hand on her head as he swims with her to the boat with Jack hot on his tail. When Quinn gets to the back of the boat, Jim and Ellen are already there, helping him to sit Amara on the edge. Ellen wraps her in a towel, to dry her and get her warm.
“Berry!” Jack whimper out hopping up on the boat, wrapping his arms around her. A worry in his eyes still lingers as he looks for any injury on his girl. The boys had already gathered around, worry in their eyes when they saw her teary eyes. “A—are you o—okay?” a shaky voice leaves his mouth, his eyes glued on Amara. She looks at him, nodding her head and leaning on him.
“Thank you, Quinn.” Her voice is hoarse from the coughing.
“Yeah, thanks Q.” Jack whispered, his eyes holding so much gratitude. Quinn nods his head, a small smile tugging on his lips.
“Okay, guys! I think it’s time to head home!” Ellen announces urging the boys to get out of the water.
“Amara…I—I didn’t know. I’m so sorry.” Luke’s voice is quiet and full of regret for doing so.
“It’s okay, Lu,” she smiles at him, extending her hand towards him. He puts his in hers and she pulls him closer in a hug. His head resting on her collarbone due to him being still in the water. “You didn’t know.” She caresses his cheek pressing a tender kiss to his forehead.
“Go dry yourself, Luke!” Jack sends him a smile, patting his shoulder.
“Yeah, ‘m going!” he hung his head low as he jumped up on the boat walking over to Ellen for a towel.
“You, okay, my Berry?” Jack asks as soon as Luke leaves. Amara turns to him nodding her head soft smile resting on her lips.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she sighs resting her head on his shoulder. “But I just made a scene, again.” She sighs looking in the distance.
“No, you didn’t. Nothing happened.” He ensures her and kisses the crown of her head. “It’s not your fault, Berry! If it’s anyone's, it's Luke’s.”

— 4. SHE STARTS LAUGHING WITH COKE IN HER MOUTH
“Okay! Quinn truth or dare?” Trevor asks, his voice hooded by the alcohol running in his system. He’s sitting opposite Amara and Jack. Her legs are swung over Jack’s tights as he draws small patterns on her skin right below where her shorts end.
“Truth,” Quinn says as he sips from his beer, she looks at him, chuckling at his bored expression.
“Oh, you’re boring!” he shakes his head. “Okay so,” he trails off, trying to figure out what to ask him. A mischievous smirk forms on his lips as he asks, “If you had to choose what position would you do for the rest of your life, which one it would be?” he smirks, knowing damn well Quinn hates talking about his personal life.
He let out a sigh shaking his head at his questions. “Probably doggy style but her chest pressed in the bed,” He grins when he sees the surprised looks on the guys' faces. They didn’t actually expect for him to answer it. “Berry, truth or dare?” he looks over at Amara, completely ignoring Trevor’s gaze.
“Dare,” she says confidently, a grin on her lips thanks to the few shots she already had. Quinn’s lips quirked up at her confidence, but he knew her really well and even though she had some alcohol running through her veins, she was still the shy and insecure Amara he got to know a few weeks ago.
“Okay, then I want you to drink a whole Coke can in ten seconds.” He smirks at her. It is slightly impossible for her to make it, but he doesn’t want to give her some inappropriate dare. He wanted her to have five minutes in heaven with Jack, but he knew she wouldn’t be comfortable with that one.
“That’s an easy one,” she shakes her head, looking over at Cole who's handing her the can. “Thanks.” She smiles at him and cracks open the can.
“Okay! I’m starting the countdown,” Trevor grins at her showing her the countdown on the phone. “Three, two, one, and now!”
Amara puts the can to her lips and begins to drink quickly as the boys count down. It's almost over when Trevor yells that it's over and falls off his chair, making everyone including Amara laugh.
That is the moment when Amara realizes that she has still the coke in her mouth. Her eyes grew wide when she felt the Coke running up her nose as she laughed again, splashing the Coke all over Trevor’s shirt. Everyone grows quiet as they watch Amara. Tears spring up in her eyes as she starts apologizing.
“I—I’m so sorry. I didn’t…” she shakes her head slowly standing from her seat. “Excuse me.” She stutters out, running inside the house and up the stairs to Jack’s room.
She feels so stupid.
There is no way Jack’s friends would like her after this.
She made a complete fool of herself. This whole summer, she’s just doing everything to make his friends and family think she’s not enough for him.
She sat herself down on his bed, looking at her Coke-stained shirt.  The tears she’s been holding in finally fall over the edge rolling down her cheeks.
She hangs her head low, looking down at her hands in her lap, thinking about what a fool she made of herself. How could she start laughing with a mouth full of Coke? It wouldn’t be the worst thing if she ended up laughing, the worst thing was that the Coke squirted from her nose. She reaches for the napkins that are on the nightstand so she can blow that coke out of her nose.
“Berry? Can I come in?” Jack says from behind his door, his head leaning on the door and his eyes closed. He hates the feeling he has in his chest. The feeling of helplessness of not knowing how to help his girl to feel better or not stupid.
“Yeah,” she hums looking up at him as soon as he steps into the room. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for that to happen.”
“Hey, it’s okay!” he sits next to her pulling her to his side. “No one is mad at you,” He shakes his head searching for her eyes. “Hey, look at me!” he places his fingers under her chin raising her head so he can look him in the eyes. “The same would probably happen to them too, okay. Really no one is mad at you.” She smiles at her kissing her forehead.

— 5. SHE AND JACK HAD AN ARGUMENT
“Baby I sw—“ Jack is cut off by Amara’s scoff that leaves her lips.
“No! I saw the looks on their faces every time I did something embarrassing. The look on your dad's face when I fell down the stairs, or the look on the guys’ faces when I accidentally dropped the wine bottle the same goes with the lake two weeks ago and the Coke too!” Amara yells at him, her hands in the air as she’s pacing around his room.
“But that wasn’t because they think you’re embarrassing yourself! They were just in shock and didn’t know what to say!” he exclaims throwing his arms in the air. “Fuck! Amara, they love you, okay!!” his hands run through his hair as he looks up at Amara who’s still pacing over the room. “And even if they don’t. I. Don’t. Fucking. Care.” He stands from his sitting position and walks over to her, his hands grabbing hers and pulling her in his chest. “I love you no matter what.”
Amara pulls herself away from him shaking her head. “Well, you shouldn’t. I know I’m not enough for you. Look at me!” she scoffs shaking her head, tears now running down her cheeks.
“Baby–” Ellen who’s just walking past Jack’s room has to stop in her way because the hurt and sadness in his voice made her curious about what’s happening.
“I’m fat, I have ADHD and I’m not even popular. You should date someone on your level. A gorgeous blond slim girl, with tons of followers and a lot of money.” Ellen can hear Amara’s loud crying voice. She quickly made her way down to where are the other boys sitting, their heads turned towards the stairs and the worry written on their faces confirmed to Ellen, that something serious was probably going on.
“What’s going on?” she looks at Quinn who is closer to the stairs and probably heard everything.
“They…uhm…I’m not sure but I think it’s because of us,” he mumbled, his hand running along his jaw. “Amara is convinced, we don’t like her, because of the accidents that happened to her during the last few weeks so—” their heads turn towards the stairs when they hear a door slamming and then loud steps. Watching the stairs, they see Amara with red eyes, as she stomps down the stairs. She stops on her steps when she sees the guys and Ellen sitting there, and all their attention is on her. She quickly wipes her tears and jolts when she hears the door close again.
“I—I'm so sorry,” she whispers under her nose and runs out of the house when she hears Jack’s steps.
“Berry!” he shouts after her as he runs down the stairs.
“Jack, what happened?” Ellen asks when he stops on the stairs looking for his girl.
“We uhm…we fought, I guess?” he sighs running his hands through his hair his eyes searching the place for his girl until they find her, sitting on the couch at the back of their house. “I—I don’t know what it was. She just started to talk about how you don’t like her because she has ADHD and that I should date someone that is on the same level as me and…” tears now forming in his eyes. “I—I told her I love her, but she—” he shakes his head, a quiet sob leaving his mouth. “Mom—” he chokes on his words, looking at his mom. Ellen quickly looks towards the four boys sitting on the couch, pleading them to leave her and Jack alone.
“Honey, breathe,” she takes his hands in his and leads him towards the couch. Ellen sighs, her eyes focused on his middle son. “Okay, now listen to me,” she takes his cheeks in her palms forcing him lightly to look at her, his eyes red from the tears. Seeing his son like this breaks her heart, but she knows what Amara’s going through, and that breaks her heart even more. “Amara is afraid, you’ll leave her for someone better than her. And I know you won’t, but even I had these insecurities when I and dad were dating,” she smiles at him, wiping away the tears. Briefly, she looks over at Amara, finding her sitting next to Quinn, who has a reassuring arm around her as he’s telling something to her.
Amara’s head is resting against Quinn’s shoulder, she’s listening to Quinn’s words. “I know it’s hard, Ara. I’ve been in this situation too, but you have to trust Jack, that he loves you. And I can tell he’s head over heels for you.” Quinn wiggles his brow at her, earning a giggle from her. “And I can see how much you love him. Don’t let the fear ruin your relationship with J.”
“Thank you, Quinn. I uhm… I know I probably didn't make the best impression, with all the things I have done, but I uhm, really appreciate you.” She smiles up at him, her eyes shining with something Quinn can’t name, but he likes the way the warm feeling runs through his chest, knowing he probably saved his brother’s relationship.

— 6.  SHE GOT HER PERIOD EARLIER
It is the first week of August, which means Amara has to leave in two weeks, to prepare herself for her the university which won’t start until two weeks after she comes home, but she needs time to buy her things and make her calendar.
But right now, she’s lying with Ellen on the blanket on a boat, while the boys are in the water, jumping from the boat and just messing around.
She’s feeling the hot sun on her skin with the water droplets that fall on her when the boys are around them. She turns her head when she hears Ellen moving next to her.
“Want a drink, Ara?” she asks her, a smile on her lips as she adjusts her bikini.
“Yeas please.” Amara sends her big toothy smile, earning a chuckle from Ellen. During the few weeks she spent with Jack’s family, she felt wanted and loved, especially by Jack’s parents, which is something she has never experienced.
Her parents were acting cold to her, when they found, out their perfect daughter have ADHD. They never came to her recitals or any important events she had in school or now in university.
“Ara,” Ellen calls for her, a soft smile on her lips, but her brows are furrowed.
“Something happened?” Amara looks at her, moving on her forearms, so she isn’t lying when she speaks with Jack’s mom.
“Uh… uhm nothing, just,” she looks around, making sure, none of the boys is around. “You got your period sweetie.” She points slightly at the wet red spot on the blanket.
“Oh my god,” Amara whispers. She immediately sits, looking around herself, if anyone saw. “I-I am so sorry. They weren’t supposed to come until Sunday, so-so I thought,” she rambles out, reaching for her tower to cover herself.
“Hey, it’s okay! This can happen to everyone,” she says calmly, walking over to the box where is clothes. “Here, try these on. I never wore them and I think you’ll look stunning in them,” Ellen hands Amara a pair of blue bikini swims. “Go change! I’ll wait here, make sure no one sees you, and change the blanket. And I don’t know if you use tampons or pads, but I have both here.”
“Thank you.” Amara smiles up at Ellen with appreciation in her eyes.
“You change?” Jack asks an hour later when the boys finally get out of the water.
“Yeah, uhm. My cramps came earlier than I thought, and your mom had spread a pair of swims so I borrowed them for today.” She whispers, embarrassment written all over her face.
“Oh,” he nods looking over at his mom and sending her smile. “Well, you look good in them,” he tickles her side as he sits next to her, pulling her closer to his side. “And don’t worry about the period thing. Mom is happy that you are here. She always wanted a daughter and she is beyond happy to have you here.” He kisses the side of her head as he speaks to her.
“But still, it's so embarrassing.” She mumbles again, shoving her face in the crock of his head.
“No, it’s not, berry. This can happen to everyone. And what I remember when I was younger. This happened to my mom too, many times. It’s completely normal.”
“What are you? A specialist on women's problems?” you chuckle in his neck, planting small kisses here and there.
“Sure I am. You don’t know I was supposed to be born as a girl? But then this thing,” he points to his groin. “Happened. But you know him really well.”

— +1. THE MISSING PIECE OF PUZZLE
It is Amara’s last full day, in the lake house. Her plane is taking off tomorrow early in the morning. She’s excited to go home, first because she just wants her quiet apartment for a while, and second, she’ll finally see her little fluffy baby, Esmeralda. Jack will drive her to the airport, seeing her off, but will fly there a week after her, just to give her some time alone.
Right now, she’s sitting on the couch, in the backyard Ellen is sitting next to her with a book in her hands, Quinn and Jim are standing in front of the grill, doing some food, and Jack and Luke are playing football.
Amara’s eyes are glutted on her shirtless boyfriend, who runs around the yard while Luke is chasing him. She’s so happy to be there with him, his family, and his friends. Unfortunately, they had to leave two days ago to spend time with their families and prepare for the upcoming season.
“Watch out!” you don't realize what's going on until a football ball hits her in the face.
“Ow,” she whines, dropping her face in her hands. “Fuck,” she whimpers, tears rolling down her cheeks, probably from the shock and bit from the pain.
“Oh, my god, Amara, honey!” Ellen, gasps, dropping her book and scooting closer to her to look at her face.
“Baby! Fuck! You okay?”
“Ara! I’m so fucking sorry!” Jack and Luke yell at the same time, as they run to them.
“I-It’s okay,” Amara let out in a shaky voice “Just, hurts a little,” she put down your hands, spotting Jack and Luke still running towards her. Ellen gasps and stands up from her seat as she looks at Amara, she looks at her. “W-what?”
“Oh my god, baby! You are bleeding!” Jack shouts out of breath, as he kneels in front of Amara. Ellen sends him a glare, shakes her head, and walks inside the house.
“I-I’m so sorry, Ara!” Luke sighs, the guilt in his voice is clear to her ears. Amara looks at her other side, almost screaming from surprise when she sees Quinn and Jim looking at her, worry written all over their faces.
“It's okay, it doesn't hurt that much,” she sends Luke a smile, reassuring him, when she looks back at him. However, the expression on his face tells her, he isn’t sure about it. She extends her hand towards him, waiting for him to grab it. “It’s okay, Lu. I promise, it’s just a small cut, I’ll live with that.” she squeezes his hand, waiting for him to say or do something.
“Okay.”
After a while, Amara’s cheek is cleaned and treated, and they all are sitting around the table with food on their plates. Jack is sitting next to his girl, his hand on her tight, as he talks with his brothers.
Amara’s eyes run over the table enjoying the atmosphere they have here. All her childhood she wished that her family would be like this. They were, until she was five, and the doctors told her and her parents she had ADHD. That was the moment everything in their family changed.
“Ara,” Ellen’s voice makes Amara turn her head at her, a soft smile on her lips.
“Yeah?”
“We just want to thank you, that you are taking care of our boy! And how glad we are you could have spent the summer here with us!” she smiles widely at her, completely catching Amara off guard.
“Oh it’s more like, he’s taking care of me.” You giggle drawing the attention of the three brothers to you.
“Yeah, but you are here for him, so we are here for you! And I’m really glad I could’ve met you. You are like the daughter I’ve never had.” Ellen reaches his hand towards Amara, she places her hand in Ellen, squeezing it slightly, tears pricking in her eyes at Ellen’s kind words.
“You truly are an amazing person, Berry! And I’m a little jealous of Jack!” Quinn smiles at him, the tips of his ears are red when everyone looks at him with shock. He never was the type of person who would express his emotions.
“Yeah, Quinn’s right! You are the most amazing girl I have ever met! I really enjoyed the summer with you!” the tears that were in her eyes were sliding down her cheeks. Jack who’s sitting next to her, is smiling widely, his arm now around her shoulders as he pulls her into him.
“T-Thank you! It means a lot to me that you uhm, that you like me,” she whispers, taking in a deep breath. “Uhm, I-I really enjoyed the time here.”
“Yeah! We did too. You are the missing piece of the puzzle that we missed.” This time is Jim the one who speaks, his word sends another wave of tears to Amara’s eyes. Impulsively she stands up from her seat, walking over to Jim to give him a tight hug. “Thank you.” Jim smiles tightening his arms around her.

strawberry wine: l. hughes
blurb: in which luke is teased for how he treats you, but he doesn’t mind. Not if all of it’s for you / word count: 1.3k / pairing: luke hughes x fem!reader
You hadn’t meant to fall in love with him at first. When you first met Luke— right in the middle of your freshman year at UMich, where you were trying to balance the precarious work-social life balance— it wasn’t love at first sight. No, you were way too pessimistic for that. Instead, the love you had garnered for the curly haired boy was gratuitous— it was a simmering feeling you felt every time he turned his gaze on you, everytime he checked in with you via text or phone call when he was away, and the feeling of his heartbeat as he laid on your chest— the reminder that, above all, he had put you first.
Falling in love with Luke wasn’t an automatic fairy-godmother thing, but it was magic all the same — it was the feeling of coming up for air after being submerged underwater, the feeling of being in the sun after being inside for too long. It was a feeling you wanted to be embraced with all the time, really.
Now, though, you were hearing the extent at which Luke loved you — in your sleep induced haze while your head laid on Luke’s chest, and your legs extended over his lap. The two of you had made your way to the Hughes Family lake house for the first few weeks of the summer, where you were joined by Quinn and Jack, as well as some of your and Luke’s mutual friends from UMich; all the people you cared about, all under one roof.
As the summer grew, and the first week turned into the second, you could only feel how much your love had grown for the boy with the curls— the boy who had somehow made falling in love with an all-consuming feeling that you never wanted to let go of.
Now, though, as you listened to the conversation around you, your almost-sleep was interrupted when you heard Jack call to Luke— saying something along the lines of something “being clear,” and picking up on some changes in Luke’s behavior.
Now almost fully awake, you didn’t want to make yourself entirely known— not just yet. Luke and you had spoken about what to expect on the trip— the teasing and remarks that were sure to come from his brothers, the jokes that were sure to come out of Trevor or Duker at one point, and even the overprotectiveness for the only other woman in the house from Ellen. Now, through, you could tell the conversation was fully about you— and Luke.
“I’m just saying, man,” you could hear Jack start. “We’ve never seen you this whipped before! It’s liek you’re an entirely new man, Moose,” he finished, to where you heard the rest of the boys add in their own agreements. You felt Luke pull you even closer when he said that, and could feel the hand on your calve resume its soft movements— mishappen shapes and letters that didn’t really mean anything, but that Luke had gotten into the habit of doing whenever you were around.
“Name one time where that’s happened,” Luke said. “I might be in love, but I haven’t changed,” he said, and oh god— he was in love with you! Even if you were still supposed to be asleep the sole notioon that he’d say it in front of the people whose opinions he cared about so deeply made your heart melt even more. The truth was, you were in love with Luke as much as he was in lovr with you — he was your rock, your safe place, and above all else, the person you looked for in anything; the one who had captured your heart and kept it as close as he could to his own.
“C’mon, dude, you literally put your hand on the table corner when she dropped her cup the other day, just so she wouldn’t hit her head,” Quinn said from the opposite chair. “And, not to mention, you literally called Mom right after your first date with her, just to ask her how you did, and to see if she could help you see whatever signs Y/N was givign you” the boys laughed. While you had picked up on the things Luke did for you— including making sure you were always safe, that second thing wasn’t something you were aware of. Sure, you were both nervous wrecks on your first date, but you found him charming— especially when he had shown up at your dorm smartly dressed, and had brought flowers not only for you, but for your roommate too.
“Plus, remember that time Coach made you do extra liners because you showed up to practice with a hickey on your neck?” Duker said. “Wasn’t that after your sixth-month anniversary, or something? When you rented that hotel room to, and I quote, “treat her how she deserves to be treated?” C’mon Hughes, you’re a sap!” he finished.
Duke was right; you remembered that date almost vividly. Luke had spent so much on a grand hotel room, had taken you out to dinner at a nice restaurant, and, in the privacy of your own room, had danced with you for the entire night— had spun you around and around until the two of you ended up tangled in the white sheets, kisses being shared like secrets, and leaving them like brands on the entire expanse of his chest, his neck, and his mouth. The two of you had drank a third of a bottle of strawberry wine before you ended up on your tiptoes, Luke spinning you and leading you around the expanse of the entire room, before ultimately taking it further.
That night, you had become his, and he had become yours in a way that you had never imagined possible; regardless of either of your past experiences, you had felt love strum between the two of you in, as cliche as it sounds — magical way.
“So what, I care about her! Look at her, and tell me you wouldn’t give it all up” Luke said, but you could tell he wasn’t mad in the slightest. Sure, he was getting chirped at, but it was all in good fun, and he understood that; it must have been a strange thing, for both of his older brothers to see him so in love, and so ready to be tied down to you, that he didn’t even mind the teasing.
Luke, for all his faults, loved you, and that much was entirely apparent every time he opened his mouth to talk about you— something he would do any chance he got, always finding a way to bring you up in his conversations.
“We know, dude, you’ve just become such a sap,” Jack added. “‘S making the rest of us wanna settle down too,” he said, laughing. It was true, in a way. Seeing their little brother so in love — so much so that he had almost put his hockey career on pause just to be able to graduate with you, and looked like Cupid had whacked him in the ass with an arrow every time he looked at you — they could clearly see the adoration he had for you; the bone deep understanding that you were his, and he was yours.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” he said, waving them away. Feeling like this was your cue to get up, however, now that the conversation had died down, you opened your eyes, and picked your head up slowly from his chest. Luke looked down at you immediately, his hand that was previously on your leg coming up to cup your chin.
“You okay there, honey?” he asked. You could only try to shake away the remaining sleep from your head, and smile up at him. Here was your boy — the one who had taken your heart and ran with it, who held you close, and who planned to never let go; the man you wanted to spend the rest of your days with, and who was willing to endure every single comment about your relationship just to keep you. You couldn’t have asked for anyone better —— you couldn’t have asked for anyone other than your Luke.
“Never better, baby. Never better.”

TODAY WAS A FAIRYTALE
Tumblr media
summary: quinn and reader have been friends for awhile, still stuck in highschool. it doesn’t take long for quinn to fully ask the reader out and after their date, reader feels like shes apart of a fairytale, one she wants to be in forever.
pairings: quinn hughes x reader
warnings: just pure fluff!
BASED ON the song ‘today was a fairytale’ by taylor swift!
Tumblr media
you wore a dress. one that dropped straight to your knees. the white, soft fabric was littered with small sunflowers. the lace sleeves hung loosely on your arms as you sat on your bed, reading. your eyes would flicker out the window after every other sentence you read.
your clock read 6:00 pm as his car pulled into your driveway. you slammed your book shut, rushing to grab your small white bag and throw your sandals on. tucking a hair behind your ear, you closed your front door behind you and made your way to his car.
quinn stepped out. a dark grey t-shirt adorned his body, along with a nice pair of jeans and..air force ones! he definitely got styled by his brother. you stopped and stared. he looked good. he always did. it felt amazing knowing he was here for you.
you brushed your hands threw your hair, feeling like a mess. he walked over to you, grabbing your hand. “you look pretty.” he smiled, pinching a piece of hair between his fingers before tucking it behind your ear again.
it felt like time slowed down, but you know it didn’t. “thank you” you muttered, bashfully. your cheeks turned a slight pink as he tugged you to his car. he opened the passenger door.
“after you, m’lady” he smiled.
you laughed, “why thank you, prince charming.” you got in. he closed the door for you and ran to his side, getting in the car as soon as he could.
the drive was short, filled with conversation. talking about how they were excited for the date. talking about how jack styled his brother and if it were up to quinn, he would’ve worn something more ‘fancy’ in order to match you.
you liked how he was dressed though, it made the night more casual. he pulled into a random, vacant lot that was right next to a small hill that overlooked some mountains. you both walked to his trunk, you grabbed the blanket and two pillows he packed. he grabbed the picnic basket and small cooler, full of more stuff he packed. he didn’t tell you what he brought though.
you neatly set the blanket down on the grass, then placed the pillows down, next to each other.
“thank you for this, by the way. i’ve always wanted to do a picnic for a date” you spoke.
quinn smiled. “thats why i did this, i asked (your friends name) about things you liked and your ‘dream date.’ i hope this lives up to the expectation?” he questioned.
he sat down, taking you with him as he grabbed your hand. you laugh lightly, “its above my expectations.” you spoke.
“‘m glad” he grinned, opening up the cooler and pulling out a bottle.
your eyes widened. “quintin hughes we are not drinking champagne!” you mutter.
he lets out a laugh. “relax, its just sparkling water. my parents would kill me if i got champagne.” he chuckled.
you mentally sighed in relief. your body language relaxing. he pulled out a few snacks. a small charcuterie board was in the middle, along with chocolate covered strawberries, pineapple, some veggies and a few things of candy.
you two talked for hours. your eyes lit up every time he smiled. you liked his smile, one that he didn’t show often around others. you felt special.
you put the utensils and left overs in the basket before settling down next to quinn. your entire left side pressed against him as you two watched stars slowly peak out as the sun set.
the brunette boy looked over at you, his eyes scanning you, your face, your body. you looked at him, opening your mouth slightly, prepared to speak, but instead his lips were on yours.
his hand held your cheek as he kissed you. his lips were soft, they tasted like strawberries. your wide eyes then closed, your hand made its way to the back of his neck.
god he felt perfect. his lips molded perfectly with yours, like puzzle pieces that went together. perfect. perfect. perfect. you loved every second of it.
as he slowly pulled away, you felt yourself chasing him slightly, pulling him back into you. he was intoxicating. you could feel your heart beat, it pounded heavily against your chest.
you grab his free hand and place it against your chest as you keep your lips against his. can he feel it? the way he makes you feel was strong.
when you two finally pull away, his lips quirk upwards into a smile as his head rests on your forehead. “you think we could take this further and perhaps go on a second date?” quinn spoke with a goofy grin on his face.
“i do.” you smile.
the minute you closed your front door and locked it, you grinned. he liked you. he wanted a second date. he liked you.
“how was it, sweetheart?” you heard your mom ask. she had been at the short end of the stick, hearing you constantly talk about the date, before it even happened.
“today was a fairytale, mom,”

[ takes place in the bless the broken road universe ]
summary jack and (y/n) aka winnie meet for the first time
pairing jack hughes x fem!poc!reader
warning(s) none?
word count 1.2k
Tumblr media
It's a late Sunday evening, and you find yourself knee-deep in baking preparations for the upcoming morning at the bakery. Normally, this task was reserved for early mornings, requiring you to rise at the ungodly hour of 4 am. However, the prospect of waking up so early had lost its appeal, so you had opted for a late-night baking session instead.
Despite the soft hum of background music, the relentless downpour outside remained unmistakable. The rain pounded against the windows, a symphony of nature's fury that was everyone's least favorite song. As you worked, you held onto the hope that it would subside before closing up. The thought of venturing out into the pouring rain wasn't appealing, and the idea of driving through the intense downpour filled you with a nervousness that you couldn't shake.
You're in the midst of placing some freshly baked, unadorned cakes into the refrigerator when the distinctive chime of the entrance door bell sounds, pausing you from your task. Your expression shifts from concentration to momentary confusion, as you're almost certain you'd locked that door. However, the distant murmur of a stranger's voice calling out confirms your earlier suspicion that you must have forgotten to secure it.
Hastily, you exit the kitchen, halting as you arrive at the front of the shop. Your gaze fixates on a tall figure, draped in clothes soaked by the non-stop rain. With practiced ease, he sheds his hoodie, revealing a sculpted physique beneath a clinging, rain-dampened white t-shirt that accentuates the contours of his well-defined torso.
"Sorry, we're closed." Your voice cuts through the air, drawing his attention like a magnet. He swivels his head towards you, his deep-blue eyes locking onto yours. An exasperated sigh escapes his lips, and he runs a hand through his tousled, chestnut hair, his fingers tugging lightly at the roots before releasing them.
He appears oddly familiar, and you tilt your head slightly, straining to recall the distant memory of where you might have crossed paths with him before.
"Can I ride out the storm here for a bit, just until the rain slows?"
His question hangs in the air, tinged with a hint of pleading in his tone. You find yourself intrigued, unable to ignore the curiosity about what drove him out into the storm. Though your initial instinct is to refuse and tell him to leave, you can't deny the surreal feeling of this encounter. It's not every day that an attractive stranger stumbles into your bakery, seeking shelter from the tempest outside. It's as if you've stepped into a scene from a novel, a meet-cute destined to unfold. Yet, you're acutely aware that once the storm passes, your paths will diverge, and this fleeting connection will fade into memory.
"You can stay until the rain stops, or until I leave." You agree.
A warm, appreciative smile graces his lips as he nods in gratitude. "Thank you so much."
"Sure." A subtle, awkward tension lingers in the air, leaving you feeling somewhat uneasy about resuming your work in the kitchen while leaving the stranger alone in the front of the bakery.
Instead, you opt for some light cleaning in the front. With deliberate motions, you wipe down the tables, sweep the floor, and diligently review and sign some pending invoices.
Despite your efforts to stay occupied, that lingering sense of awkward tension gradually returns to fill the room as there is nothing else up front for you to do.
"Did you want something to eat? I have cake, donuts, and some other stuff."
He shifts uneasily, his mouth opening and closing as if he's uncertain how to respond to your offer. You look at him expectantly, arms crossed over your chest, and a slight sway in your stance as you roll onto the balls of your feet.
His hesitation finally gives way, and he responds, his teeth grazing over his bottom lip. "What kinds of donuts do you have?"
A grin spreads across your face as you step over to the counter where he's standing. You reach behind the counter, retrieving a menu and flipping it over to reveal the section dedicated to mouthwatering donut options.
Shoulder to shoulder, you take a moment to walk him through each of the donut flavors. Some are classics, like the indulgent Boston creme, while others venture into the realm of culinary creativity, like the pineapple basil donut.
"How about..." He pauses briefly, contemplating his choice. "Strawberry Vanilla?"
You accept the menu from him with a nod, then pivot toward the kitchen. Swiftly, you retrieve two strawberry donuts from the fridge and arrange them on a spare plate you have lying around. With a deft hand, you pluck two napkins, ready to serve the treats.
Returning to the front, the handsome stranger remains in his original spot, engrossed in his cellphone. You clear your throat, gently guiding him to the side as you hoist yourself onto the counter. His gaze meets yours, uncertainty etched across his face. A reassuring smile graces your lips, and you pat the space next to you on the counter. He hesitates for a moment before mirroring your actions, and the two of you settle side by side on the countertop, indulging in your donuts together.
"Oh my god," he exclaims between bites, his enthusiasm palpable. You glance at him, a mixture of amusement and pride washing over you as his reaction to the donuts you made becomes increasingly evident. "This is insane," he declares, his words filled with genuine appreciation.
"Thank you." You thank him, laughing softly as you take a bite of your own donut.
A comfortable silence envelops both of you, with only the soft background music as your companion. Your eyes occasionally dart toward him, quick glances to avoid being caught staring. It's become clear, especially now, being so close to him, that he is undeniably beautiful.
Surely, he must have a girlfriend, right? There's no way he doesn't. You try to push aside the twinge of disappointment that accompanies that thought, but it lingers at the base of your chest.
He wipes his mouth with his napkin, then turns to you with a curious expression. "Crazy, I never noticed this place was here."
You immediately shake your head, eager to share a bit of your story. "Actually, I just bought this place a few months ago. I think it used to be a vegan place or something."
He appears genuinely surprised by your admission. "Wow, you own this place? You look pretty young."
A sheepish smile plays on your lips. "I'm 20."
His eyes light up with shared astonishment. "Me too!"
"And what do you do for work?"
Before he has the chance to answer, a sudden knock at the door jolts you back to reality. A taller boy, strikingly similar to the one sitting next to you, stands outside. It seems neither of you had even noticed that the rain had stopped, leaving the sky a light grey.
"That's my brother," he says, sliding off the counter. He retrieves his hoodie from the floor, draping it casually over his right shoulder.
"Thanks for the shelter." He says. "And the donut," he adds, flashing you a warm smile.
"Of course," you reply with a nod. "Drive safe."
"Yes ma'am." And just like that, the handsome stranger you'd shared laughter and conversation with for the better part of a half-hour is gone.

he's a stranger! | mack + grace 🌷💌⭐️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
macklin x hughes!sister
summary: grace wants to bring macklin to the sacred lake house and her brother, jack is not having it.
fia's notes 💌: soooo much dialogue, like no mack in here SORRY this is like a siblings + trevor and cole imagine lol <3 enjoy!
not proofread
In the heart of Michigan’s summer magic, nestled among towering pines and tranquil waters of Lake Michigan, stood the sacred Hughes family lake house. Throughout the year, the Hughes siblings would be spread far apart in different stretches of the country, one of them not even residing in the country, but at this lake house and on this plot of land, none of that mattered. Because for two full months, the four of them were there together, and it was always better than the last.
“What do you mean you’re inviting him here?” Jack yelled from the living room as Grace rolled her eyes, stirring a pitcher of ice cold lemonade from the kitchen. She stood in a forest green triangle bikini top and jean shorts, fanning herself from the scorching hot summer heat that was seeping into the house.
“It means exactly that, Jack,” she shrugged, throwing the lemonade into the fridge and fetching a container of strawberries in return. “And you better not be mean to him!”
Jack scoffed, peeling himself off the couch, his bare chest exposed as he stumbled into the kitchen. “You haven’t even met the kid yet! What if he’s crazy? You’re just gonna invite some stranger into the house like it’s nothing?”
“He’s not a stranger, Jack. You’re being dramatic.”
“Yeah? Well, you’re being under-dramatic!”
Grace laughed, shaking her head as she cut the strawberries into halves. “Oh, wise words, Mr. Harvard.”
“Very funny. You know, these college dropout jokes are getting real old.”
“Can’t be a college dropout if you never went to college, Jack,” Luke butted in, stomping down the stairs as he opened the fridge and immediately grabbed the lemonade Grace had just made.
“Hey! I just made that!” Grace shouted, her small knife pointing in Luke’s direction.
With his hands up, Luke dropped the pitcher onto the counter. “Hey, no need for weapons!”
“Can you guys shut up?” Quinn complained, Trevor in tow, as they sat on the barstools at the kitchen island. “We can hear you guys fighting from the lake.”
“Oh, did someone make lemonade?” Trevor asked, ushering the pitcher towards his direction. “Grab me a cup, Grace?”
“You’re 23, grow the fuck up and get your own cup,” Grace scolded, her hands crossed over each other as Trevor stood up, a frown etched onto his face.
“Someone’s angry,” Trevor mumbled to Luke as he stretched for a cup at the top cabinet.
At that point, everyone was angry about something. Jack didn’t want Macklin to come, Grace wanted the complete opposite, Luke was deprived of the lemonade and was now watching Trevor sip it with ease, Quinn was tired of everyone’s bullshit, and Trevor got yelled at by the youngest Hughes, but truth-be-told, he was more scared of her than anyone else in the family—other than Ellen.
“Guys!’ Jack announced from his spot by the entryway of the kitchen. “Tell me I’m not crazy—”
“You’re crazy—”
“I haven’t even said anything yet, Luke,” Jack scolded as Luke shrugged his shoulders in response, diving into something on his phone. “Okay! Gracelynn here wants to bring a complete stranger to the lakehouse. That’s stupid, right?” he asked.
“Well, haven’t you done that, too? Like all of the girls you’ve brought here,” Cole added from the backdoor, fanning his red sunburn in search of the aloe vera that Grace restocks in the fridge every summer.
“That doesn’t count.”
Grace scoffed, her back resting on the cool counter behind her. “Why not?”
“Because—”
“Because you’re a hypocrite! Macklin’s gonna come here and you guys are going to enjoy him—or at least pretend to.”
Luke stood up, his head pointing up from his phone. “We’re talking about Mack?”
“Yes?” Jack agreed confusingly, his brows furrowing at the younger boy.
“I thought this was some random dude! I’m on G’s side.”
“Oh, come on!” Jack groaned. “He is random!”
“Don’t act like you weren’t complimenting his puck protection like two weeks ago,” Luke scoffed, stealing a sip of lemonade from Trevor’s cup.
“Hah!” Grace jumped. “You like him! Admit it!”
“I don’t like him,” Jack huffed. “But... you can bring him if you want, I guess.”
“I’m sorry, what did you say?” Grace asked, her hand cupping her right ear. “I don’t think I caught that.”
“You can bring him,” he groaned, defeated.
Putting down her knife, Grace jumped up and down before running towards Jack and throwing her arms around the boy. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Mirroring her actions, he threw his arms around Grace. “He better not be a weirdo and murder us in our sleep.”
“He won’t! Well, I don’t think he will,” she smiled. “Also, you’re really sweaty.”
“Oh well, fuck you then.”

“Baby I’ve gotta go. I’ll see you at home after the game. I love you much.” Jack's voice comes from Amara’s phone, which is lying in her lap as she’s crocheting her new top.
“Okay, I’ll be watching you, I love you so much!” Amara sends him a kiss and ends the call, still crocheting the top. Esmeralda is lying next to her tail sliding over Amras leg.
With a smile, she reaches over to the table for the remote so she can play the game today. She loves watching her man play the sport he loves so much together with her brother. Today, they’re playing against Anaheim, so all the boys gather at their apartment.
She has a solid three hours to make something to eat before the boys come home. All day she was thinking about what to make for the refreshment. She came up with bananas in chocolate, vegetables, fruit, canapes, and other food.
As soon as the game started, Amara put down her crocheting watching the game with a smile on her face as the camera showed Jack’s handsome face.
She has no idea how she managed to get this man. She doesn’t understand how a handsome and famous man like Jack, would want someone so simple like her.
She doesn’t doubt the love Jack has for her. She knows how much Jack loves her and she loves him too, she just doesn’t understand, how she manages to get his attention, when there are other, more beautiful girls than her, that are more than willing to be with him.
Amara knows she is no model, she’s not skinny or beautiful, she’s just herself. She knows that Jack loves her the way she is, even though she has ADHD.
Her ADHD was and is the biggest insecurity in their relationship together with her body.
She remembers the day she and Jack met. It was right after their game they won, Nico invited her as his plus one, because he knew that she had some problems with her family at that moment.
She came in one of Nico's jerseys, he got her for her birthday, which was long enough for her to wear like a dress with black shorts and a pair of Nike's. It wasn't her normal style to go out in, but she felt so confident that night that she decided to wear that.
As soon as she got in the bar, Nico was already waiting for her at the entrance walking her to the box they all were sitting in. That night she met most of Nico's teammates including Jack.
The night was filled with alcohol, laughter, and a lot of jokes. After two hours they spent getting to know each other, Amara decided to enjoy the night and dance for a while.
She bends down to Nico so he can hear her. “I'm going on the dancing floor!” she says ready to leave but his hand on her wrist stopped her, she looked down at him, cooking her brow in confusion.
“Be careful! I'll be watching you!” he shouts at her. Amara just nodded, knowing that Nico had taken her like his sister, and left to the dance floor.
She didn't go far in the crowd, knowing, that she could get dizzy any time. She swayed her hips to the rhythm of the music for a good fifteen minutes when her bladder decided it was time for relief.
She pushed herself from the crowd and quickly walked to the hall with doors to dome offices and doors to the toilets. She steps in the girls, groaning at the sight of the long line of girls waiting in here.
“Oh god,” she groaned stomping on the place.
“I’ve been waiting here for ten minutes maybe you should try the men’s.” a girl's voice came from in front of her.
“What?” Amara looked at her eyes wide open.
“I said, you should use the men’s,” she repeated herself. “I’ve been waiting here for a good ten minutes now, so if you really need to go, use the men’s. I’ll go with you; I need really bad, and I don’t want to wait any longer.” She chuckled lightly, pointing towards the doors.
“Yeah, sure,” Amara cleared her throat getting out of the room, waiting for the girl to follow her. “I-I think that’s a great idea.”
Little nervous they both stepped into the men’s quickly making their way into the toilet cabin.
“This is so embarrassing!” the girl giggled from her cabin. “Oh, by the way! What is your name? I completely forgot to ask the second I talked to you.”
“Oh, my name is Amara!” she said pulling her panties on and flushing the toilet clean.
“That is so cute name! My name is Ainsley!” She giggled before she walked out of the cabin to the sink to wash her hands like Amara.
“Oh, look what we have in here,” a deep voice sounded through the room. The girls’ heads snapped in the direction finding there standing two tall men. “Areyou lost sweet girls? The ladies are on the other side of the hall.” They walked over them standing only a few inches from them. Amara takes Ainsley’s hand in hers trying to squeeze between the two guys to get out of the room.
“Oh, oh, oh,” one of the guys shook their head while grabbing Amara’s forearms and backing her back where they were standing for a while. “You ain’t going anywhere.” He says stepping even closer to the two of them.
“We’re really sorry, we just needed to use the toilet and the ladies were full,” Ainsley says in a shaky tone, clinging onto Amara's arm. “But now, we really, have to go.”
“No, I don’t think so,” they shook their heads. Each one of the guys stepped closer to one of the girls their hands making their way onto the girl's waists just in time when the door opened in swift motion revealing fuming  Jack and Nico.
As soon as Jack’s eyes found Amara’s teary ones, he pushed the guy from her pulling her in behind him. The same happened with Nico and Ainsley, who pushed her slightly behind him, the girl clinging onto his forearm.
“Hey, back off, we found them first!” one of the guys said towering over Nico and Jack, probably not knowing who they were.
“Well, too, bad, they’re our girls, so get lost!” Jack said, lacing his fingers with Amaras, squeezing it tightly.
“Yeah, we can say the same. Prove it!” The other one says looking at them chalangely.
Amara’s eyes grew wide when the words left his mouth. She knew what they meant, but she never kissed anyone. Jack turned at her, looking in her wide eyes.
“Just one small kiss, okay!” Jack whispered, cupping her cheeks lightly.
“But I never…” Amara whispers as Jack leans his head on hers.
“’S okay, Berry, I’ll guide you!” he says in a sweet voice.
“Okay,” she nodded her head looking into his beautiful eyes. Jack pulled her closer to him by her waist pressing his lips lightly over hers in a small peck. He looks at her face, smiling at her expression. Her eyes are closed, and her lips are parted while her hands rest on his chest. He bent down again pressing his lips over hers this time in a more passionate kiss, that made Amara's limbs feel like jelly.
“You look beautiful,” Jack whispered on her lips when he pulled slightly away from her. “So beautiful, Berry.”
“Thank you.” Her cheeks were flushed red when they pulled away from each other, looking into each other's eyes.
“Oh, okay, sorry guys!” the two of them walked away with their heads turning over their shoulders to make sure they were really couples.
The familiar sound of a siren interrupted her thoughts about Jack. She takes in a deep breath getting up from her seat to make the snack before guys come in.
Tumblr media
“Baby! We’re home!” Jack's voice sounds through the apartment while she’s standing at the counter, her hands dirty from the food she was preparing.
“In the kitchen, Jack,” Amara shouts over your shoulder, licking her finger clean. In a second, Jack shows up in the doorframe with a smile on his handsome face. “Hi baby!” she says happily, a smile lingering on her red lips.
“Hey, my pretty Berry.” He coos, sliding his back from his shoulder and making his way toward Amara, who’s already waiting on him.
“You played amazing!” her hands make their way into his hair as she speaks. “I couldn’t take my eyes off you.” She lied a bit, but not that much the first intermission she couldn’t take his eyes off him.
“Yeah?” he teases smirk on his face as his hands make their way on her tights trailing up her ass and her back.
“Oh-okay! We’re here too!” Nico says making them turn their heads at him, smile on his lips just like at the others.
“We know, Nico, we really know you are here!” Amara chuckles pulling away from Jack to take ahold of the plates full of food. “That’s why I made this.” she raises them slightly but not that much so she won’t spill them.
“Oh, you’re amazing, Ara, really the best!” Luke groans walking over to her and taking one of the savories with tuna and grape.
“I know, that’s why your brother loves me,” a sheepish grin on her face. Jack looks at her with adoration. He shakes his head approaching her and squeezing her side, making her squeal. “Okay, okay, grab the food and go to the living room, I have to get out the fruit in chocolate I made.” She smiles at them pointing at the food.
“Okay!” John says this time walking over there taking two plates in his hands, just like Luke and Nico. Dawson just stands there with a smile on his face until Jack looks at him with raised brows and asks him, “Something on your mind?” he asks.
“No, sorry, I was just thinking how Amara still keeps up with your moody ass!” he laughs at his own words, earning a slap from Jack on the back of his head.
She laughs at them shaking her head at his childness. She takes the two plates of fruit in chocolate making her way in the living room to the guys.
“Here you go,” she places the two plates on the coffee table in front of the guys. “You want something to drink?” she smiles at them as she’s standing there looking at the tv.
“Yeah, some cold lemonade would be awesome.” Nico nods his head looking up to her.
“Okay, I’ll do some. Lemon or strawberry one?” she looks down at him with a big smile. She’s so grateful for him. She loves him like a brother.
“Jack, can you help me, please?” she shouted at him a few minutes later as she was making the lemonade.
“Yeah, I’m coming,” she heard some shuffling before Jack’s head popped in the doorframe. “What’s up, baby?” his arms snuggle around her waist his chin resting on her shoulder.
“Can you, please, hand me the pitcher and ice?” she looks over her shoulder, placing a peck on his full kissable lips.
“Yeah, sure my love.” He pulls away from her, walking over the counter for the pitcher before he hands it to her. He walks over to the fridge getting out the ice.
“Thank you, J.” she smiles at him, kissing his cheek.
“Everything for you, my love!” he kissed her cheek, looking over her shoulder. “I’ll help you.” He gets the knife standing next to her, helping her cut the strawberries.
“Thank you,” she leans her side in his, she continues to cut the fruit. “I love you, Jack.”
“I love you too, and always will.” He whispers in her ear kissing her neck. “My beautiful berry.”

Strawberry Girl AU Basics
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They met at a bar after one of the Devils games
Her relationship with her family isn't the best, so she's overwhelmed when she's supposed to meet his family
Her only friend is her cat, Esmeralda who she adopted in her first year at university.
When she met Luke, she thought he didn’t like her because all evening, he was eyeing her.
They moved together after their first year of relationship, and Jack had to cover all the corners, because of Amara’s clumsiness
Their song is ‘No Love For A Sinner’ by Shaya Zamora
Jack could not believe it when her family visited her for her birthday (not that they wanted to come, but Spencer flew him and his family to the USA) and her sister flirts with him all the two days, they were with them.
Their first kiss was when some girl was flirting with him in a bar, so Amara walked to them and kissed him in front of her.
Their first sex was after eight months of their relationship, after a game when Jack scored a hattrick - she's anxious about her body, that Jack wouldn't find her attractive enough

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• BIRTHDAY - November 19, 2002
• FAMILY - The youngest of the three children. Her younger brother Spencer was and is her biggest supporter and the only one in the family who liked her the way she was. On the other side, Adela her older twin sister was and still is the one who humiliates Amara at every opportunity she gets. Their parents were disappointed when they found out she had ADHD. When she got to Columbia University, they were happy to send her to New York and pay for her scholarship and the apartment just to get her away from them.
• CAREER - she's a student of law at Columbia University
• NICKNAMES - Ara, Mar, Strawberry
• PAST - Born in Indianapolis, Indiana. When she was a little baby, she had a problem with gagging reflex so she had special food. At five years, the doctors diagnosed her with a light form of ADHD which was the moment everything changed for her. She was the last person who was asked about her opinion if they asked her when she had some competition or recital, the only one who came was Spencer because Adela had something more important to attend. When they were in high school, her sister was the cheerleader captain so everyone knew her and liked her, and she was just the weird sister who liked to hand in the library and read books all the time. She had no real friends which was one of the reasons why Adela bullied her with her friends. Until Spencer was in high school, the bullying wasn't so bad, but after he left for University in Norway, the bullying got an extra level. When she got to Columbia University, her parents were more than willing to pay her school fees and buy her an apartment as close as possible to the school.
• FUN FACTS/BASICS - She loves red. Everything red. Her meeting with Nico was so embarrassing for her because she accidentally bumped into him and spilled her drink all over his shirt. When she's nervous her legs start bouncing. She's embarrassed for her personality and the fact she has ADHD.

the pop-tart debacle: l. hughes
blurb: this entire idea is based off of clips from The Basement Yard Podcast, which I will be using (for all self-indulging purposes,) as markers in which these conversations are based off of. this one is based off of episode #388 (no warnings, just minor cussing and mentions of drunkness/alcohol consumption!)  / word count: 1.04k / pairing: luke hughes x fem!reader
To be entirely fair, the conversation had stemmed from a half-drunk thought and a craving for strawberry flavored Pop-Tarts. We had just gotten home from a night of babysitting the children of an old college friend, and Luke and I found ourselves sitting in our kitchen, drinking the last of the wine I had bought a few weeks ago. Two cups in, however, the craving for the sugar-filled pockets popped up, and, looking over at Luke, I tried to formulate the thoughts into a coherent sentence.
“Luke, sweetheart, do we have any more of those Pop-Tarts that Jack left the other day? The strawberry ones?” I had asked, not really needed a lengthy response, but simply an assurance that he had heard me over his own space on the kitchen island.
Looking over, however, the 6’2 defenseman giggled at me, obviously somehow inebriated as he tended to turn into a sappy, almost touchy-drunk on the occasion that we had a glass of wine, and I could tell by the flush of his cheeks that it was definitely what was occurring.
“The strawberry ones? Jacky left them here? We need to throw them out— right now honey,” he said, standing up from his seated position, and walking over to the kitchen pantry. I watched as he passed me, sliding his hand over my lower back to ensure that he wouldn’t bump into me, and as he opened the cabinet doors.
“Throw them out? Why would we do that?” I asked. “He left literally a whole box full the other day when you guys had that sleepover,” I told him.
The Hughes Brother Sleepovers— a thing that had come to be early on in the boys’ careers, was pretty self-explanatory. Once a month, either Luke, Quinn, or Jack would host their brothers and friends at their house, and like children, build a fort in the living room and have— you guessed it— a sleepover. It was something that warms my heart every time I thought about it— about how much Luke truly loved and cared for his brothers, and how the other boys weren’t scared to show that type of affection; hell, even Quinn, as quiet as he was, would still hug Luke as tight as he could when he first saw him, and just as tight before he left.
“Yeah, sweetheart, but the strawberry ones are literally the worst,” he said, turning around after rummaging in the pantry, and looking back at me with said box in his hand. Just like I had thought, the box of Pop-Tarts was held in his right hand, and his face had contorted into a look of disgust, making me laugh out loud.
“What the hell do you have against strawberry Pop-Tarts? They’re the only meaningful flavor— and don’t you dare pull out that Frosted Confetti I KNOW you have hidden behind the rice box, Luke!” I playfully replied back, watching as his own face got a bit red at having been caught.
“You know about those?” he asked, walking towards me, with my prize still in his hand. He handed over the box, and then walked back once again to the pantry— grabbing said box of not only Frosted Confetti Pop-Tarts, but also the Mixed Berry ones as well; a sight I could only laugh at— a 6’2 hulking mass of a man, who played professional hockey and was always overshadowing everyone else, with two boxes of children’s breakfast foods in his hands, and a slight flush on his cheeks and the tips of his ears. God, the gall of this man to pull out those two flavors, I thought. Literally the worst flavors!
“Of course I do! As tall as you are, you are literally the most obvious person too, Lu. Also, I might have seen Quinn grab that same box once during one of your sleepovers. He told me to pretend I never saw anything, but I would NEVER forget that level of treason,” I joked.
“Well, it might not have the Spider-Man webbing on them, but you know I’m gonna shove it down my throat” he said right back, and I could just tell that the red wine was getting to him. Not only was he a much more affectionate drunk, but he also got a lot more loose with his curse words— slipping out casual f-bombs and “shits” when he wasn’t caught up in being proper all the time.
“That’s a very aggressive statement– you know what? Never mind,” I said, simply plucking out my own strawberry flavored pastry out of it’s sleeve. “You can believe anything you want, AS LONG as you don’t even come CLOSE to hating on my Brown Sugar Cinnamon ones, capiche?” I told him. Instead of answering me, however, he seemed to be rambling on to himself about the pastries he now held in his hands— wrappers long forgotten on the island behind him, and held a Mixed Berry Pop-Tart up to my face, cradling it in his hands as if it was something much more valuable than a literal toaster pastry.
“Three good sources of B Vitamins—” he started, still raving about the desert.
“Oh my fucking Lord,” I reponded, only rolling my eyes as I continued to stuff my own strawberry strudel into my mouth, and watched him practically swoon over it.
“Fuck you, these are still better! It’s like I’m in an early 2000’s Taco Bell again!” he said; but that wasn’t really what astounded me; instead, it was the way he bit into the Pop-Tart that had my mouth gaping open.
My boyfriend, the love of my life and man that I was hoping to marry one day, had turned the Pop-Tart on its side, and had taken consecutive bites around the edges of the patry’s crust. Instead of simply biting the Pop-Tart, he had instead opted to eat the entirety of the border, and then, when he must have noticed that I was looking at him, looked up and stuffed the rest of his mouth, sans the crust.
“Luke.” I said, point-blank. “Luke Warren Hughes.”
“Yesh?” he said, his words muffled by the literal pastry he had just stuffed into his mouth.
“What the hell did you just do?” I asked, only to get a laugh in return
[author's note: this has minimal editing because i hated rereading this and could not come to scrap it for the life of me lmao. like i'm sorry but what is this]

family: she has two younger brothers (they're twins!) who are currently in high school. her mom (a therapist) is her best friend. her parents divorced when she was younger so her dad moved to california with his girlfriend. oona sees him on breaks sometimes, but they don't have a strained relationship. they text all the time. her brothers both play hockey & they're huge fans of the canucks. oona has no care for hockey, like at all.
friends: her roommate is her best friend from college! her name is gracie & they're both aspiring actors.
fun facts: she goes to japan every summer to visit her family on her mom's side, she's a frank ocean girl, she loves baking, her favorite food is strawberries, she can't ride a bike, and she lives in the apartment across from quinn's!
