Set to (as of yet, unofficially) bow at one of this autumn's major film festivals, Hawley's film project happens to be his directorial debut – Lucy in the Sky.

Signing on for it during Fargo 3's post-production stage, the movie's led by Oscar-winner Natalie Portman's Lucy Cola, an astronaut who's psychologically reshaped by what she experiences on an extended spaceflight.

It's been said that Lucy in the Sky is also vaguely based on real-life NASA employee Lisa Nowak and her criminal activities in 2007. Added to the (below) trailer's tenseness, this may point towards Lucy's eventual behaviour as her mind slowly disintegrates.

Just as he tends to do with Fargo, Hawley's managed to pepper this forthcoming drama with an enviable cast of supporting talent – enter Legion collaborator Dan Stevens, Mad Men star Jon Hamm, a second Oscar champ in the form of Ellen Burstyn and Deadpool 2 and Joker  actress Zazie Beetz.But this is just one of the many pies Hawley's had his fingers in, as of course there's his aforementioned X-Men TV spin-off Legion and also that long-awaited Doctor Doom solo movie.

Considered to be one of Marvel's greatest villains, Doctor Doom (aka Victor Von Doom) has crept onto the big screen on a number of occasions, most recently via the face of Toby Kebbell in 2015's ill-fated Fantastic Four.But Hawley wants to reinvigorate this classic character, believing that a solo venture is the best way to go. Back in June 2018, the screenwriter confirmed that a script had been written for the movie, but Fox's merger with Disney seems to have effectively shelved the project.Discussing how Marvel's fresh ownership of the character could scupper his plans over at Fox, Hawley reflected: "They may have a plan of their own in a desk drawer. I just don't know. So, I think there's sort of a sense of uncertainty. "I think the studio would like to make it. I think we're all just trying to figure out how and when we're gonna do that."

It's tough to imagine his version of Doctor Doom sliding comfortably into the established Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Kevin Feige admitting that the studio's Phase 5 is already under construction, Hawley's planned solo effort could suffer from a case of unfortunate timing.

Okay, imagine the Steven Universe unofficial trailer, but for Universe Falls.

I’ve oft thought about what a UF trailer would be like, and I imagine it would start off kind of melodramatic and then build up to get REALLY dramatic and would end up with like a high point of action cliffhanger and then we’d get that music sting that’s in every trailer and the logo (if UF had a logo) and it would be cool as heck.
