Part One of Everything To Me
A Stardew Valley fan fiction about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. The first part of a new drama-heavy mini-series.
Notes: I originally posted this a few weeks ago but had a bad attack of depression and deleted it. I'm so sorry to anyone who had their bookmark disappear and, even though I'm still struggling at the moment, I will try my hardest to sit on my hands the next time the urge to delete takes me
Synopsis: An unexpected visit from Sebastian's father re-opens old wounds
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian, Robin, Demetrius, Maru, Sebastian's Father, Emily, Haley
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Family Dynamics, Drama, Emotional Hurt

Sebastian let out a long sigh, leaned back in his chair and took a sip of his coffee. He had been working all morning and it was probably time to take a break. His eyes wandered lazily over the various items on his desk as he relaxed, finally settling on the picture of Lily he kept constantly at his side. He smiled as he gazed at it. His wife always teased him for liking this photo so much, saying with a little giggle that he only had it on his desk because he had a thing for her in a bikini. His smile grew wider. Well… that might be partly true, but the real reason he loved this photo was because of the beautiful smile she was wearing as she looked into the camera. The same smile he had fallen so instantly in love with.
He reached out and gently traced her features through the glass. He had longed all his life for someone he could truly be with. Someone who would take away his crushing loneliness and self-loathing, someone he could go to unafraid with open arms, one single person who would finally love him for who he was and who he in turn could completely devote himself to. He had found that with her and missed her with a deep, unending yearning whenever she was gone.
"Lily," he said softly, wondering how she was faring at the market. Haley and Emily had talked her into opening a little stall at the Grampleton Craft Fair this year and they had headed off at dawn, stowing endless boxes of Lily's pickles and preserves in Emily's clapped out old Beetle until there had barely been enough room left in the car for the three young women. He could still see Haley's disgruntled expression as she sat cramped on the back seat holding on to a teetering pile of boxes while the old Volkswagen jolted down the bumpy farm track into town.
He climbed out of his chair, debating the wisdom of pizza for lunch when the house phone started ringing. He stared at it in some confusion for a moment, hardly anyone rang their landline these days, then he realised it was probably his mom. She had a thing for using what she called 'good old-fashioned technology'.
He walked over to the phone and lifted the handset to his ear.
"Hey mom," he said lightly, "what's up?"
"How did you know it was me?" came the surprised response, then, before he had time to answer… "Oh, right, right, I'm the only one who ever rings you on this… I know… I know." Her voice sounded a little ragged, stressed even. He felt a frown begin to crease his brow. For some reason his heart began to beat faster.
What was this sudden sense of foreboding?
"Argh, that's not important right now… Sebby, can you get over here? It's your dad. He's here and he wants to see you!"
Tumblr media
Sebastian didn't really know what he was doing as he parked his bike outside his mom's house. Ever since he'd heard those three words, "it's your dad…" his brain had turned to static.
His dad had been a cold, distant man who had walked out on them when he was only four years old and since that time he had barely been aware of his existence, although he had been painfully aware of the aching void that had been left in his life. Occasional cards and letters, strained visits on his milestone birthdays, for all intents and purposes he had no father and had been forced to come to terms with it. Demetrius had been a lacklustre replacement and Sebastian had turned inwards at a young age, seeking solace from books, computers and the quiet spaces of nature. It had always been this way and he expected nothing different. Just like when his mother, against his wishes, had invited his father to his and Lily's wedding and he had, of course, failed to attend. Sebastian had been neither surprised nor saddened.
At least he'd thought not.
He lifted his hand to knock on the door but before he could make contact it swung open and a worried looking Maru peered up at him. He stared at her wordlessly for a moment, unused to such an expression on his usually cheery half-sister's face.
"Sebby," she said softly. She hardly ever called him that. He felt a lump form in his throat. His already pounding heart beat even faster. What the hell was wrong with him? Ah Yoba, he wished Lily were with him right now.
"He's in the living room with mom and dad." She stepped back to let him in. "Are… are you okay?"
"Of course I'm okay!" He knew he was speaking the words but they didn't really feel like they belonged to him. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Maru's head dropped meekly. He hadn't meant to snap. He felt instantly guilty but didn't know what to say to make things better.
"Sebastian?" His mother appeared at the doorway of the living room. Her face was pale, her features so sharply defined it almost seemed to Sebastian that they could cut reality itself. "Do you want to come in?"
They stared at each other for an endless moment, an entire history of unspoken trauma shifting silently between them.
"He's here?"
He didn't know why he was asking. Of course he was here. She'd already told him. It didn't make sense to ask.
Nothing made sense to him right now.
"Yes," her voice was a whisper. "Come through."
He followed her into the living room. Demetrius was sitting in an armchair making small talk with their visitor. He looked up when they came in.
"Ah, Sebastian. You're here." He frowned, twitched awkwardly in his seat then climbed to his feet. "I'll leave you three alone then."
He closed the door softly behind him but to Sebastian it seemed like the loudest noise in the world. A high pitched whine assaulted his ears as he stared at the back of his father's head, a head covered in hair as black as his own, a head that turned slowly to regard him with the same grey eyes he saw every day in the mirror. The static in his brain increased.
"Sebastian," his father nodded at him, seemed about to get up, then thought better of it.
"Dad." The word tasted like ash in his mouth.
"I see you're still riding that motorbike." His father gestured to the leather jacket and gloves he was wearing.
"Yeah, it's good for getting around on."
"I'm glad you like it."
His mother coughed nervously and Sebastian was aware of her moving behind him, pouring drinks, offering him one which he immediately declined with a shake of his head.
"Your father is moving away to another country," she said, putting her tray down on the coffee table and casting a hope-filled glance at her ex-husband. "He may not be coming back for a good while and…"
"It could be permanent," his father finished for her, taking a drink from the tray and finishing it in one gulp. "So I thought I should come and see you before I left."
"You're moving away for good?" Sebastian looked from his father to his mother and back again. "Why? I mean… when? Are you leaving right now?"
How was he supposed to react to this?
"My flight leaves in three hours. I have a taxi coming for me soon. It's a new job, the money was so good I just couldn't turn it down and I don't really have anything to keep me in this country anyway."
Sebastian's mouth fell open, he looked at his mother again who blanched and looked away.
Nothing to keep him here?
He had nothing to keep him here?
"I brought this for you." He picked up what looked like an old leather box from the table. Sebastian wondered how he hadn't noticed it until now. "It belonged to my father. He gave it to me and, well, I guess it's family tradition to pass it down and as I'm unlikely to have another son I thought you might as well have it, you being a photographer and all."
He thrust the box Sebastian's way, not bothering to stand.
"I… I'm a programmer, not a photographer."
"I knew it was something starting with P." His father shook the box at him. "I'm sure you can make some use out of it anyway. It's a bit old fashioned, a Hasselblad I think he called it. Still takes photos apparently."
"I'm… not a photographer." Sebastian repeated, took the box and stared at it. He could feel pressure building inside him, bubbling in his chest, tightening his throat. He looked up. His father was checking his watch. His mother was wringing her hands.
"I'm a programmer!" Sebastian blurted, his words higher and louder than he'd expected. "I've been coding since I was twelve. I've been freelancing for five years. I'm making my own game and…"
"My taxi should be here in the next five minutes."
"Five minutes? But… but, you only just got here… you haven't even met my wife. You have to meet Lily. You didn't come to the wedding but you have to at least meet her. She's the best thing that ever happened to me!"
His father looked up at him. "Did you bring her with you?"
"No, she's out today, I…"
A ringtone sounded and his father immediately clicked a button and placed his phone to his ear. "You're outside now? Right. I'm on my way."
"Wait!" Sebastian desperately juggled his own phone from his pocket. "I have a picture of her, you have to see it!" He seriously didn't recognise his own voice now. Wondered who that was who was pleading so pitifully.
His father climbed to his feet, laid a hand on his shoulder as he walked by. "Tell you what, why don't you use some of your photography skills and use that Hasselblad to take a photo of Tilly. You can send it to me in Paris. I've left my address with your mother."
He walked out of the room. Sebastian stared at the empty doorway.
Empty.
Just like last time.
Time ticked slowly by. Silence settled on him like snow. Chilling him to the bone. He shivered. Started shaking uncontrollably.
"Sebby…"
His mother was approaching him. He could see her face through an icy fog.
"I'm so sorry…" she lifted a hand.
"Don't!"
She jumped, pulled back as though burned. But he could feel no heat. Only the cold. So cold.
He turned and left the room.
Robin burst into tears as Demetrius and Maru entered in his wake and ran to her side.
"Robin! What the hell happened?" Demetrius asked, putting his hands on her shoulders. "Sebastian just pushed past us with a face like thunder!"
"Oh my poor boy!" Robin sobbed. "My poor boy! I thought this would be good for him, I thought Liam had changed, I thought he would finally…" her voice broke and she sank back into her chair. "I should have known better. Damn him! And damn me, I've just made everything worse!" She looked up at her husband and daughter, determination forcing its way through the pain. "Pass me the phone. I need to fix this!"
Maru handed her mother the phone and, wiping her tears away, Robin made her call.
Tumblr media
"Emily, could you take over for me?" Lily asked, scrabbling in her pocket for her phone. "I have a call and I'd better answer it."
"Sure, hun," the blue-haired girl grinned and took her place behind the counter, tapping her sister on the shoulder to continue arranging their new stock. "Who would have thought we'd do this well? Even I'm surprised!"
"I know," Lily responded with a good natured but weary smile as she pressed her phone to her ear. Her wares had been selling like hotcakes all morning and she was both happy and exhausted in equal measures. She had neither Emily's enthusiasm nor capacity for coping with crowds at this level and was already thinking fondly of her quiet home and her sweet husband.
"Robin? What's wrong? You sound so upset…"
Lily's face turned white as she listened to her mother-in-law's frantic words.
"Seb…" she clicked the button to hang up and let her hand fall limply to her side. She felt sick inside. Her chest ached. "Oh… Sebby."
Why hadn't she been with him?
Emily looked over at her, immediately aware something was wrong.
"Lily…?"
Lily's gaze snapped into focus. She turned and picked up one of the boxes they'd unpacked that morning. "I need to get home. Sebby needs me. Please…" she looked around imploringly. "Help me."
Emily quickly started to gather jars from their stall, nodding at her sister to do the same thing. "But we still have all afternoon…" Haley started to complain then took one look at Lily's face, sighed and went to fetch more boxes.
"It won't take long to get what's left sorted away," Emily said resolutely, packing with a mission. "And my little Herbie will get us home in no time."
Lily gazed at her two friends in gratitude. She hated to put them out like this, but there was no way she could stay here any longer, not after what Robin had just told her.
Tumblr media
Just under an hour later they were back in the valley and quickly unloading what was left of Lily's produce outside the farmhouse. Lily was trembling with frustration, desperate to get to Seb, wishing she could just leave everything in the car and rush off to find him. He hadn't answered any of the calls she had made on the way home and she was frantic with worry for him.
"I think that's all of it," Emily called, peering into the back seat as her sister placed the last box on the pile. "Are you sure you don't want us to help you put it all away?
"No, no, it's okay, I'll see to it later!"
"All right, hun," Emily laid a hand on Lily's shoulder and she jumped, so wound up now that even her friend's touch was too much for her to bear. Emily smiled gently. "Go find your Sebby… and know that I'm sending both of you healing thoughts, okay?"
"I will," Lily said, feeling bad for her nervousness. "And thanks for getting me home so quickly."
"Think nothing of it," Emily said and climbed back into her car. "Now hurry up and go to your hubby!"
Lily forced out a laugh, waved at the departing car, then, the moment it was out of sight, turned and dashed into the house.
"Sebby!" she called his name as she flung open the door.
There was no response.
Her gaze fell on the kitchen table.
A pile of smashed metal lay scattered across it. A heavy hammer lay in the debris' midst. She could see dints left in the wood from the force that had been used to destroy the now unrecognisable item.
"Oh Seb!"
The door banged shut behind her as she ran back outside, fear clutching at her heart.
She had to find him. Had to make everything right again. Before anything terrible happened.

Part Two of Everything To Me
A Stardew Valley fan fiction about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. The second part of a new drama-heavy mini-series. Part one is here for those who missed it.
Notes: This is another story that bit the dust during my recent bout of depression. I think it was up for less than a day before I deleted it and only had one note but still, I'm sorry to that one person for their disappearing bookmark!
Synopsis: Seb & Lily deal with the emotional fall out of his father's visit until a trip into the mines causes fresh trouble
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian, Abigail
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Mental Health Issues, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Drama
Warnings: Abandonment Issues
Tumblr media
Sebastian stared out over the water. He was sitting at the end of the abandoned dock near the tide pools. It was peaceful here. Nothing but the sound of rolling waves. He loved this place. It was where he had proposed to Lily.
Lily.
He blinked. Wondered why his vision was so blurry. He wished she were here right now. For some reason the waves weren't soothing him as they normally did. He still felt so cold inside. Had felt that way ever since he left his mom's. Ever since he'd smashed that camera. Ever since…
His dad had left.
Again.
He shook his head. The static was still there. Was it ever going to go away?
He was so alone. His vision blurred even more. Always alone.
It was what he deserved. Wasn't it?
"Sebby…"
That voice. That sweet sweet voice.
"Lily…"
He looked up. Oh Yoba. He needed her. Needed her more than anything.
He let out a broken cry and reached for her.
Tumblr media
"Lily, he did it again! He left again... Why, Lily? Why? What did I do? What's wrong with me? Why does everyone always leave?"
"Oh Sebby…"
His eyes were huge, his tears endless. She couldn't bear to see the face she loved full of so much pain. She flew to him, tears streaming down her own cheeks, threw her arms around him, pulling him to her as she collapsed to her knees beside him on the dock.
"You didn't do anything, Sebby," she crooned as his arms snaked desperately around her and he buried his face in her chest. "There's nothing wrong with you, it's not your fault, sweetheart, it's not your fault!"
"Lily!" he sobbed, clutching her so tight she could barely breathe. "Don't leave me, don't leave me!"
"I'm not going to leave you, Sebby," she said, stroking the silk of his hair and rocking him gently, heart aching with sympathy for him. "I'm never going to leave you. Never. You mean the world to me. I love you, I love you so much!"
"Lily, I'm not going to let anyone leave me ever again, I swear it! I'm never letting go of you, Lily, I'm never letting go of you!"
Tumblr media
He held her as close as he could. Now she was here the static was gone, her warmth had chased away the cold and the waves could soothe him again. He sighed into her chest. Lily. His precious wife. The one thing he could never lose. He would do everything in his power to keep her with him. With him forever.
Tumblr media
Sebastian smiled as he took a sip from his latest 'World's Greatest…' mug. Ever since his father's visit Lily had been an even bigger sweetheart than usual, treating him to so many silly little things that he'd been completely overwhelmed. She had come back from town the day after his initial upset with a mischievous grin on her face and every morning since then he had received his coffee in a new mug that had proclaimed him in turn to be a multitude of things, including the world's greatest husband, lover, musician, programmer and philosopher amongst others.
She had cooked his favourite foods for him every single day and had even invented some new ones. This morning she had woken him with a breakfast éclair iced perfectly in the shape of a little keroppi, his latest 'World's Greatest Froggy Boy' mug sitting right next to it. He had laughed so hard when he'd seen the tray and when she'd giggled and told him how she'd had to get that mug specially printed he had pulled her into bed and shown her just how much he deserved his 'World's Greatest Lover' mug.
Along with all of that she had put up with his endless moodiness with not a single complaint. And he had been moody. He knew he had. All of his old abandonment issues had resurfaced with a vengeance and he had vacillated between periods of bitter introspection, locking himself away for hours at a time, to clinging to her so desperately that he had literally not let her out of his sight, constantly holding onto her, touching her, following her around everywhere like a lost puppy. The deep, dark, broken part of him, the part that expected anger and rejection, had instead been blessed every single time with her sweet smile, her ready embrace and a supply of love so endless and constant that he'd been brought to tears time and time again with the knowledge of just how lucky he was to have her in his life.
And now, for the first day in ages, she was gone. He looked up at the clock and tried not to feel nervous. He knew she had left for a good reason, working on a job to help the town fisherman, Willy. The old man apparently wasn't meeting his quotas and was panicking so much about his poor catches that Lily, kind hearted as always, had offered to help him. Sebastian hadn't wanted her to go but knew he couldn't keep her at his beck and call forever. He also knew that he really needed to get on with his own work and so had kissed her goodbye as she headed off to the lake with her fishing gear, wished her luck, then spent all his time ever since counting each minute until she returned.
He shook his head and tried to turn his attention back to his work. Everything would be just fine. She hadn't really been gone that long and when she returned he was already planning to cook her favourite meal to show how much he appreciated her.
He sighed and started coding. Yes, everything would be just fine. He knew it.
Tumblr media
Lily pulled her wire basket up out of the water and smiled to see it nearly full. She'd had a really productive couple of hours at her old lakeside fishing spot and hugged herself at the thought of how relieved Willy would be when she brought her catch to him. She set her bait and cast again, thinking she might as well take a little more advantage of her good fortune. There was always room for a few more, after all!
She was already thinking ahead to after her trip to Willy's shop, humming happily to herself at the thought of being back with her Sebby again. She was so busy with her daydreaming that she didn't hear Abigail's approach until the girl sank heavily to the ground next to her, frown on her face, rucksack and pickaxe on her back, sword strapped tightly to her waist.
"Hmph!" Abigail declared meaningfully, tugging vengefully at the grass near her knee.
"Abby!" Lily exclaimed. "You made me jump, I didn't hear you come up!" She looked over at the goth girl, wondering what was causing her black mood. "What's wrong?"
"My stupid dad," Abigail pouted. "He saw me practising with my sword and went absolutely ballistic. Started spouting all this crap about how young ladies shouldn't wield weapons, that I shouldn't even be thinking of going into the mines, that I should just go home and help my mom with the dinner!" She looked up at Lily indignantly. "Can you believe it? I told him how the mines can't be that bad 'cos Gil never even gets out of his chair, plus you go in the mines all the time, but he just rolled his eyes and started mumbling something about you being a bad influence!"
"Well, I used to go in the mines," Lily said, trying to keep an eye on her float as Abigail began digging ferociously at the ground with a stick she had found. "But I don't anymore. It can be dangerous, you know?"
"Oh, don't you start too!" The stick snapped and Abigail tossed it aside in disgust. "I thought you'd be on my side!"
"I am on your side," Lily sat down beside her. "He had no right to say those things to you, it was pretty sexist really."
"Damn right it was! He's so fucking archaic, I can't believe it! Well, I'll show him! I'm gonna go in those mines, right to the deepest level, get the biggest diamond I can find and shove it right under his nose! That'll show him what young ladies are capable of!" She climbed to her feet and marched off in the direction of the mine entrance, a determined expression on her face.
"Abby!" Lily struggled to her feet, calling after the rapidly departing girl. "Are you sure that's wise? If you're going to go into the mines you should really start with the lower levels, the monsters farther in are…"
She trailed off. Abigail was either too far away to hear her or just refusing to listen.
She frowned and looked at her fishing line. Dammit, she didn't want to leave her spot but she couldn't let Abby go getting herself into trouble. She was one of Sebby's friends and she didn't want to think about how upset he would be right now if anything bad happened to her.
She groaned and set off after her, hoping she still had time to catch up before anything stupid happened.
Tumblr media
Yoba, Abigail could move fast for someone carrying such a big pack. Lily had already lost sight of her before she finally came to the mine entrance. She wondered momentarily if she should go to the guild to fetch Marlon but decided against it, the guild building was too far away, by the time she got there Abigail could already be deep in the mines. If she could just get to her before she had the chance to properly set out, all would be well.
She hurried through the doorway and ran over to the elevator. Her heart sank when she saw it set to level eighty. She had hoped that Abigail had only been joking, that surely the girl would know how dangerous those deep levels could be.
She jabbed at the recall button, heart hammering in her chest as she tapped her foot impatiently, waiting for it to arrive. Ah, how could it take so long? She needed to get down there fast. If only Abigail hadn't made it to the ladder yet.
The door pinged open and Lily jumped inside, realising only as the door slid shut in front of her that she didn't have a single weapon on her. Nothing she could even use to defend herself with.
Well, she would just have to hope that it wouldn't come to that. There weren't always monsters on every level, after all. Sometimes when she had gone mining she had passed a whole day seeing nothing more threatening then a few nervous slimes. She began to tap her foot again as the elevator whined its way down.
Yes. Maybe she was worrying about nothing. She just needed to get down there and talk some sense into her, that was all.
The elevator ground to a halt and the door pinged again. Lily was through it before it had even finished opening, looking frantically around the room for some signs of Abigail. There was nothing to be seen and her frown deepened as her gaze fell on the ladder leading down to the deepest levels. There was nothing for it. Abby had gone down there and so she would have to, too.
'I'm sorry, Sebby,' she said to herself as she clambered down. 'I know I promised you I'd never go in here again but it's for a good reason and I'll be straight back out.'
She sighed. She hated breaking her word, especially to him.
Tumblr media
"Abby!" she called out as soon as her feet hit the bottom. "Abby, where are you?"
"Lily? Is that you?"
Lily let out a sigh of relief as she turned and saw Abigail on the other side of the cavern, sword in hand, peering back at her, monster-free and completely safe in the dim light of the torches fixed at varying intervals along the walls.
"Abby, thank Yoba you're okay!" she started making her way over. "You need to come back up with me right now, it's way too dangerous on these levels!"
"Are you joking?" Abigail laughed. "There's nothing here! I didn't know you were such a scaredy-cat, Lily. I'm going down to the next level, I don't see any rocks worth breaking here."
"Abby, no!" Lily reached out, watching in dismay as Abigail descended to the next level. "Ah, dammit, dammit…" she ran over to the ladder, fear piercing her heart as she heard a high-pitched scream from below.
"Abby!" She slid down the ladder so fast she could feel the skin burning on her palms. "Abby!"
She landed in a pile of rock dust and turned to see Abigail cowering back from the group of shadow brutes she had disturbed with her sudden entrance.
"Abby," Lily spoke with utter calm, though her heart beat so fast she was sure she was about to die. "Get back here right now, don't try to fight, you don't stand a chance."
The shadow brutes turned to look at them, there were four, it seemed almost as though they had been talking amongst themselves, a small circle of stones lay at their feet, like some kind of gathering spot. Not for the first time did Lily wonder if they were actually as mindless as people liked to think.
"Lily… oh, Lily…" Abigail whimpered and fell, scrabbling frantically backwards as the brutes climbed to their feet.
"Get back here," Lily hissed, "and give me your sword!"
Abigail screamed again as the shadow brutes darted for her as one. She dodged them just in time, turned a desperate gaze towards Lily, tossed her the sword.
"Get up the ladder, now!"
Time seemed to slow to a crawl for Lily. She somehow managed to catch the sword by its hilt. Stepped between the brutes and her friend. Watched as the girl threw herself at the ladder. Began to pull herself up it.
Then she turned to face the brutes, sword raised high in her shaking hands.
"Fetch Marlon!" she cried in the moment before they descended on her.
Tumblr media
Abigail stared down in horror as Lily disappeared beneath a roiling black mass then turned and ran for the elevator door.
"Marlon," she gasped as she sank into the corner of the elevator, shaking like a leaf. "Have to fetch Marlon."
And then she put her face in her hands and wept.
"Oh, Lily, I'm so sorry!"
Tumblr media
The frog mug slipped from Sebastian's grip and smashed to the floor. He stared at the shards and his shaking hands. What the hell...? One minute he had been drinking calmly and the next minute a shock had run right through him, like something terrible had just happened.
He looked at the clock.
Lily. Something had happened to Lily.
All of a sudden he was sure of it. She needed him. Needed him right now.
He shot to his feet, grabbed his helmet and bike keys and ran for the door.
All the way down the mountain road his heart was racing, he couldn't shake the sickening sensation that something was wrong, he was off his bike and running before the sound of the engine had even fully died away.
He ran as fast as he could, lungs tearing as the lake finally came into view. His eyes scanned the water's edge frantically, finally coming to a halt on the empty fishing spot.
Where was she? Why wasn't she here? Turning to look at him with a smile on her face. Like she should be… just like she should be…
"Lily…" his voice was a broken moan, he barely recognised it as his own. "Where are you?"
His phone went off in his pocket, he slapped a hand on it, wrenched it to his ear.
"Seb!"
It was Abigail. She sounded terrible.
"Oh Seb… it's Lily… I… I'm so sorry…" he could hear her crying… "this is all my fault… aaah… you have to come to the mines right now… there's been an accident!"
Sebastian's knees gave way. His phone fell to the ground.
His world went black.

Part Three of Everything To Me
A Stardew Valley fan fiction about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. The third part of my new mini-series (here are links to part one and part two for those who want to catch up).
Notes: Please don't roast me for the boatload of medical inaccuracies I'm sure are present here, I did do some research but ultimately I had to take certain liberties for the sake of the story. And my god, did this series take it out of me! I think I'm going to spend a long time writing mindless fluff to recover from this!
Synopsis: Lily's life hangs in the balance after a terrible accident in the mines
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian, Abigail, Marlon, Gil, Harvey, Maru, Robin
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Drama, Trauma, Major Character in Life or Death Situation, Hospital, Surgery, Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: Blood, Physical Injury
Tumblr media
Why was he kneeling here by the lake with his face in his hands? Sebastian lifted his head and stared at his palms. Everything looked blurry. He could hear a distant, tinny voice, asking if he was still there. It sounded panicked. He looked down at his phone, lying on the ground…
Abigail… it was Abigail… telling him…
Telling him about Lily.
And an accident.
An accident in the mines.
Everything swung into sharp focus, nausea rushed over him, he bent over and threw up.
Lily... the mines... why was she in the mines?
Coughing and sobbing, ignoring the pain in his body, he dragged himself to his feet, knowing only one thing. He had to get to the mines. Had to get there right now.
Tumblr media
Marlon pressed down harder on the girl's wound, next to him Gil mopped at the blood on the ground, face grim, shoulders set. Marlon grimaced. He knew how bad this was, they both did. The other girl, the one with the purple hair who had burst into the guild building and dragged them down here, looked on from her place huddled in the corner, an expression of utter horror on her face. He had already laid fully into her for the folly of her ways, he couldn't spare any more time for her, not when her friend's life lay in such danger.
"Medics should be here soon," Gil said tersely. They had called both Harvey and the city hospital as soon as they'd had the chance. He looked down at the pale face of the girl they had pulled out of the mines. She had many injuries but the one in her side was the worst. How she had held her own against four shadow brutes he would never know but it was lucky for her that he and Marlon had shown up when they did. It took experienced warriors to put down so many powerful foes. "Do you think she's going to make it?"
Marlon didn't answer. He honestly didn't know. He heard the other girl whine in fear but had nothing to offer her. The brutes had done a lot of damage. He knew basic first aid but…
A noise at the mine entrance made him turn, hoping to all hell it was Harvey or the ambulance arriving, but it wasn't, it was just a lad, must've been only in his early twenties, then he recognised him from the wedding he had attended last year and his heart knotted at the same time as the young man's face contorted and a despairing cry left his mouth.
"Yoba dammit, girl," he glared at the cringing goth. "You called him here?" He turned to Gil, never letting up pressure for a second. "Hold him back, Gil. He doesn't need to see his wife like this!"
Tumblr media
The first thing Sebastian saw when he entered the mines was the blood.
So much blood…
On the floor, covering the arms and hands of the man who crouched on the ground next to Lily, covering the rags the other man held in his hands…
Covering Lily…
"Lily!" he screamed her name and darted forwards, only to be caught and held in the surprisingly strong arms of the tall, bearded old man.
"Now then, kid, stay back. You need to leave this to the professionals."
"Lily!" he struggled desperately to be free. "Lily! Fuck! Let go of me! Let me go to her!"
"Sebby…?" her voice was faint, so terribly faint, but he heard it, would have heard it even if it were a million times quieter.
"Lily!" he saw her arm raise, a blood streaked hand reaching for him… oh Yoba, he wanted to go to her, needed to go to her… why wouldn't this bastard let go of him?
"I came as soon as I could!" It was Harvey's voice. "How is she?"
People pushed past him, Gil's arms still restrained him.
"She's lost a lot of blood!" Maru's voice. She was here too?
"I've been keeping pressure on since I found her but she's been bleeding heavy, doc!"
"You've done well. Maru, get the dressings ready while I check her vitals!"
"Seb, I'm so sorry!" His head spun crazily, he hadn't even noticed Abigail until now. She started crying as he stared blankly at her. "I'm so sorry, she told me she'd promised you never to come in here again. She only came in to save me. Just to save me!"
He couldn't speak. Couldn't take it in. Couldn't take it in at all.
"I don't like her breathing… her pulse is getting weak, all this blood loss, she's going to go into shock. This is more than I can deal with at the clinic, the internal damage is too great, she's going to need surgery to repair this!"
Shock? Surgery? Sebastian choked. Black spots circled his vision.
"You said you called Zuzu General?"
"Yes, same time we called you."
"We need them here right now! Maru, get them on the phone, find out what's happening!"
"I'm already ringing!"
"Doc, I think she's losing consciousness!"
"Harvey, the ambulance is still on call with another patient!"
"Yoba dammit! We can't waste any time, I'll take her in my car! Maru, tell them to prep for surgery, I'll get her there! Marlon, help me lift her, but gently, gently!"
So much activity, so many voices.
"Seb," his sister's hand on his shoulder, Gil's arms finally releasing him, he barely felt any of it. "Are you okay? Can you hear me?"
He could see Lily being carried away. Away from him.
He cried out. Reached after her.
"Seb!"
He stared at Maru with wild eyes. "We're taking Lily in for surgery. Come with us. She needs you right now."
His eyes found focus at her words. "Come on…" she held out a hand. He took it.
"Can you get Abigail home safely?" she turned to Gil.
"I'll take care of her Miss, don't you worry."
And then he was being led away, the last things he saw of the mine the pool of blood on the floor and Abigail's tear-streaked face staring after him.
Tumblr media
"Female, early twenties, abdominal trauma, hemorrhagic shock, we need an I.V. and oxygen right now!"
Sebastian held on to his wife's hand as the hospital staff lifted her onto a trolley. He hadn't let go of it the entire journey. Harvey had driven like a madman to get her here in time, but Yoba, she was so pale, had drifted in and out of consciousness constantly, the slight pressure of her fingers around his the only thing that had given him any hope at all.
"Is the operating room ready?" Harvey's voice.
"Yes, we can take her through right now!"
"Hurry, her blood pressure's crashing!"
"Get that I.V. in!" one of the doctors tugged an I.V. stand over and Seb watched in horror as Lily's head fell limply to the side while the medics worked frantically over her.
"Lily…" he clutched desperately at her hand, his one lifeline, felt like he was going to pass out. "Lily…"
Oh Yoba, he wanted to feel her squeeze his hand right now but there was nothing.
The medics wheeled the trolley hurriedly away and Sebastian let out a helpless sob as her hand fell from his.
"Sebastian," Harvey looked at him, sympathy in his gaze. "Don't worry, she's in good hands, the ER surgeon here is top class." He turned to Maru. "Take care of your brother, please. I need to go liaise with the admissions department, I'll be back soon." He hurried away down the corridor, frown creasing his face. The doors in front of them swung shut behind the trolley and Sebastian turned slowly to his sister.
"Maru… what… what's happening? What am I going to do? It was supposed to be our anniversary next month… I can't lose her, not now… not ever. I just… I… I can't!"
All of a sudden he couldn't feel his body anymore, he collapsed onto the nearest chair and wondered absently what animal was howling so pitifully in a hospital of all places.
Tumblr media
Maru's hands hung limply at her sides as she stared at her brother wailing in front of her. She had never seen him like this before. Had no idea what to do to console him. Nothing in her experience had ever prepared her for the sight of one of her own family members so distraught.
She started to shake, her own shock finally catching up with her.
"Mom…"
She forced her fingers to pick out her mother's number on her phone and then she was echoing her brother's tears while Robin listened in horror.
Tumblr media
Sebastian looked up as the doors opened again. His neck grated like it was on rusty wires, he felt dried up, like he had cried so many tears there wasn't an ounce of water left anywhere in his body. A man and a woman in green scrubs stepped through, removing their masks as they did so.
"How is she?" His mother, who had arrived not long after Maru's phone call, asked the question for him, and his sister, sitting mutely by his side, squeezed his hand in support.
The man took a deep breath. "The surgery was successful, she's in recovery right now and has stabilised somewhat but she lost a lot of blood and it's a rare type, we used all that we had during the operation, if…"
Sebastian was already on his feet and rolling up his sleeve.
"My blood's the same as hers. Take as much as you need!"
The surgeon's gaze turned quickly to Harvey. "You're their GP, correct? Is it true, is his blood the same?"
"It's true," Harvey nodded. "They're the only two in town with that blood type."
"Very well then…" he paused, waiting for a name to be offered.
"Sebastian. I'm her husband."
"Come through here, Sebastian. Your wife needs your help, right now."
Tumblr media
The surgeon snapped out orders to the nurse accompanying him and then led Sebastian through into a small room containing one bed on which Lily lay, still and unmoving, face white as a sheet, bandages everywhere, monitor beeping steadily beside her, I.V. still hooked up to her arm. Sebastian couldn't help the cry that escaped his lips at the sight of her and the doctor tried to smile reassuringly as the nurse quickly returned with a collection of plastic tubes and other paraphernalia.
"Try not to worry, it's not as bad as it looks. Your blood should be the only thing she needs from now on. Sit there." He gestured towards a chair next to the bed and Sebastian sank into it with a deep sigh.
The nurse smiled sympathetically as she approached. "I'm afraid this might hurt a bit."
"It doesn't matter," he said, reaching out with one hand to stroke Lily's hair. The nurse took his other arm and inserted the needle as gently as she could. He barely winced, all his attention fixed on his wife's face.
The surgeon knelt down beside him. "She still needs quite a lot of blood, so you're going to end up feeling pretty tired and dizzy." He looked up at the nurse who was stepping back, checking the tubes as the blood started to flow. "It will take a while for the transfusion to be complete and this nurse will stay with you the whole time to monitor the process. As I said, please try not to worry, your wife's going to be okay. The surgery was a complete success, she'll be weak for a while but she's going to be just fine. I promise."
"Okay," Sebastian said distractedly. "Thanks, doc…"
"You're welcome."
Tumblr media
Sebastian barely noticed the man leave the room, didn't spare a glance for the nurse quietly checking his and Lily's vitals, all he could see was his wife's face in front of him.
"Lily," he whispered her name, stroked her hair, her cheek, couldn't tear his gaze away from her. She looked so small, so pale, so fragile, her body seeming to take up hardly any space in the bed. He took her hand and watched his blood flow slowly through the tubes and into her veins. With every pulse of his heart he willed his life into her. Finally, something was in his control. He had made a vow that he wouldn't let anything be taken away from him ever again and he intended to keep it.
"Baby," he said softly. "Come back to me. Come back, don't leave me…"
He repeated the words over and over for what seemed an age, clinging to her hand desperately, completely willing to give every last drop of blood in his body if it would save her. There was no reason for him to go on living without her in his life.
"Lily, please…" tears rolled down his cheeks, he was amazed he had any left at this point, then his breath caught in his throat as her eyelids fluttered and she started to murmur.
"Lily," his heart pounded, he stared into her eyes as they opened, eyes he'd been afraid he'd never see again.
"Seb…" her voice was a tiny whisper, he gasped as he felt her fingers squeeze his ever so gently.
"Oh Lily," he threw himself forward onto the bed, pressing his forehead to hers, cradling her face. "I thought I'd lost you!" he kissed her, tasting the salt of his own tears. "I thought I'd lost you!"
"Sebby," she lifted a hand, shakily touching his hair. "What happened?"
"I'm giving you my blood, baby," he sobbed, still kissing her. "You had surgery and lost a lot, you needed more. I'm giving you mine."
"Oh Sebby," she said softly. "You're so sweet."
He looked at her, she was smiling up at him. It was weak, but it was a smile. Oh Yoba. She was here. She was alive. He hadn't lost her.
"Lily," he cried out her name in utter relief, trying desperately to wrap his arms around her as best he could with all the tubes in the way and she did the same, the I.V. stand coming dangerously close to toppling over as they hugged onto each other, both crying, their tears mingling with the endless kisses they couldn't help but share.
Tumblr media
"You're really not meant to do that, you know!" the nurse admonished with fake sternness as she finished calling for the doctor and removed the I.V. that had nearly met a messy end.
"I'm sorry," Sebastian said, stroking his wife's cheek as she gazed adoringly up at him. Their hands were so firmly clasped together that the nurse laughed, she had tried her best not to intrude on their sweet moment and couldn't really be angry when they were so endearing together.
"How's our patient doing?" the doctor strode into the room. "Hmm, almost back to normal," he touched her face. "Colour and temperature are much better too." He looked over at Sebastian, noting the tubes still connecting them. "Your blood must have magical properties, young man!"
Sebastian smiled into Lily's face as the doctor strapped a blood pressure cuff around his arm. "Low, as expected," he let out the air and removed the cuff. "You've given a lot of blood, Sebastian. You'll need to take it easy for a while before you're fully recovered. You can stay here with your wife if you like. We'll need to keep her under observation for a while to make sure there are no complications, but rest assured, she is out of danger now."
"You couldn't make me leave if you tried, doc," Sebastian said as the nurse removed the needle from his vein, placed a wad of cotton on it and then wrapped a bandage firmly around it before hurrying out of the room with the bundled tubes.
"Seeing as you're a married couple I'll bring another bed in here so you can sleep together," the doctor said, carefully finishing his checks on Lily before smiling tiredly at the two of them. "You're both probably going to need a lot of rest now, I know I certainly do, so we'll discuss things in more detail later. I'll just go and update your GP and your relatives on her condition and then I'll be back, okay?"
He turned and left the room. Sebastian had never taken his eyes from Lily's face in all that time and, now that they were finally alone, he took her fully in his arms and held her close.
"Sebby," she slipped her arms around his back, clinging to him as tightly as she could in her weakened state. "I'm so sorry I went into the mines when I promised not to."
"You don't need to apologise," he laughed, amazed that she still held that promise so dear, even now. "You did it to save a friend, my love. I'm so proud of you."
He kissed her then sat up, kicked off his shoes and climbed into bed beside her, needing to be as near to her as possible. She sighed and snuggled up to him.
"I love you, Sebby," she said sleepily.
He smiled and gathered her carefully against his chest, painfully aware of her many wounds, but relieved beyond all measure to hear the soft sound of her breathing as she drifted off in his arms.
She was his. He had saved her. Would never lose anything precious to him ever again.
"I love you too, Lily," he said, gently stroking her hair. "You're everything to me."
And then his own exhaustion took him and he fell asleep still holding her in his arms.
When the doctor returned wheeling the extra bed he smiled to see them curled so close together. Well, it wasn't usual procedure, but in this case he was willing to make an exception. He had a feeling that the love these two shared was the best medicine either of them could have right now.

Everything To Me - Epilogue
A Stardew Valley fan fiction about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. Thanks to @kissingtruth for all their lovely and helpful feedback... here are those Abigail scenes you wanted!
Notes: I was very unsure if I should post this as I really didn't know if the story needed it but, ah, what the hell, sometimes a little closure is necessary...
Synopsis: In the calm after the storm Abigail's guilt is finally assuaged and Lily & Sebastian spend their first anniversary together
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian, Abigail, Haley, Emily
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Friendship Dynamics, Love, Fluff, Romance
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
"And then you heard him calling your name and woke up to find him giving you his blood!" Haley gazed at her, eyes wide, hands clasped together, cheeks flushed. "Oh, that's so romantic! I just can't stand it!" She lifted a hand to rub the tears from her eyes. "Tell me again about how he climbed into the hospital bed with you!"
Lily laughed at Haley's enthusiasm, which immediately started off a coughing fit.
"Now look what you've done, Haley!" Abigail admonished, quickly placing another pillow under Lily's head to help prop her up. "You're wearing her out asking her to tell the same story over and over again!"
"But it's so sweet!" Haley wailed as Emily joined Abigail in fussing over their convalescing friend.
"It's okay, you two," Lily said, smiling at her nurses. "I'm fine really, I think I just need a drink, that's all."
"See, you've made her talk too long!" Abigail glared at the blonde girl. "I'll go get you some iced water right now, Lily." She hurried off to the kitchen.
"She doesn't need to be so mean about it," Haley pouted, deflating rapidly in her chair.
"Try not to take offence," Emily soothed as she finished straightening Lily's covers. "You know she's been feeling guilty about this whole thing, this is just her way of trying to make amends."
Lily sighed and Emily turned to look at her again. "Are we tiring you out, hun? Do you need us to leave?"
"Oh no," Lily quickly shook her head. "It's not that, I love having you here. I just wish Abby would relax a little, both Sebby and I have told her over and over again that we don't blame her but…"
"I know," Emily said, gently shushing her. She could see the tell tale little frownline appearing between Lily's eyes, a surefire warning that her friend was starting to worry. "She'll get over it eventually, it'll just take a little more time, that's all."
She cast an eye over the vast array of flowers and gifts Abigail had brought to the farmhouse in the week that Lily had been home. She couldn't help but feel sorry for the goth girl, for sure she had made an ill-considered decision to go into the mines but it was the mistake of an unthinking youth, sure of their own invincibility, and she could only imagine the burden of guilt the poor girl must now be carrying.
"Here you go, Lily," Abigail said, quickly returning with the drink and immediately beginning to restraighten the already straight covers. "I'll just sort these out for you."
"Sorry to disturb you all…"
They all turned to see a slightly hesitant Sebastian enter the room, looking a little flushed as though he'd just been busy with something. He coughed nervously, his cheeks reddening further at being the centre of all their attention. "It's getting late and… well, it's our anniversary today and… um…"
"You're totally right, Seb," Emily saved him from trying to find more words, smiling to herself at his shyness. She had noticed it becoming more pronounced again over the last month or so and wondered what had happened to cause it. Well, maybe some time alone with his wife on their special day would help him. Goodness, so many people seemed so delicate these days, she would have to send extra healing energy out into the world tonight!
"We should be going, we've been monopolising Lily's time for far too long. It's your first anniversary and after all that's happened I think you two deserve to spend the night alone together!" She looked down at her sister. "Come on, Haley. You can get Lily to tell you that tale again some other time."
"Okay," Haley patted Lily's hand and climbed to her feet, looking Seb up and down as she did so. "What have you been up to anyway? We heard a whole load of bumping and thumping from outside earlier on."
"Nothing much," he shifted his feet nervously. "Just some stuff on the farm…"
"Now stop bothering the boy, Haley," Emily took her by the arm. "Unlike you, he has work to do!"
"That's not fair, Em!" Haley pouted once more. "I help out around the house!"
"Only when I threaten to throw out all your fashion magazines if you don't!" Emily laughed good-naturedly. "See you later, Lily. Have a wonderful night with your hubby and try not to worry about anything, okay?"
"I'll try," Lily lifted a hand to wave goodbye. "Thanks for coming, both of you."
"Any time, hun!" The door closed behind the sisters leaving just Abigail behind.
"Well, I suppose I should get going too." She looked a little forlorn, grabbed Lily's hand and forced a smile onto her face. "I'll come visit again tomorrow, okay? Don't overdo things, will you? Remember what the doctor said?"
"I will," Lily laughed. "I have both you and Sebby constantly reminding me!"
"Come on, Abby," Seb was still fidgeting. "I'll walk you out."
"Okay."
The two walked through the kitchen and out the front door in silence. Once outside Abigail came to a halt and stared at the new installation on the porch.
"Is this what all the noise was about?"
"Yep."
"Is it Lily's anniversary present?"
"It is." Seb folded his arms and switched feet again. Not for the first time did he wish he were better at articulating his feelings with anyone other than Lily. He was sure he needed to say something right now but for the life of him he didn't know what it was.
Abigail didn't move for such a long time he felt his anxiety ratchet up another notch, then she started shaking so much he thought she was about to fall over.
"Seb!" she turned an agonised face his way. "I'm so sorry! I almost took all this away from you! Because of me you almost lost Lily! I… I was so horrible to her right from the start and then… then I did this… I…" she buried her face in her hands and he gaped at her, utterly at a loss for what to say.
He looked down at the ground, trying to rein in his own shaking. He'd gone through a lot of soul searching lately. Lily had been in hospital for a full week after her surgery and in that time he'd gone through a whole kaleidoscope of emotions, was ashamed to admit that he had raged at and blamed Abigail in the midst of that whirlwind. The only thing that had kept him even remotely stable through all of it had been Lily, the knowledge that she was still there, still alive, still his…
Still his…
"Abby, it's okay."
She looked up at his words, seeming surprised by the calm strength in his voice.
He felt surprised himself on hearing it.
"Don't beat yourself up about it, it wasn't your fault, it was just something that happened."
Her eyes glistened with tears and hope in equal measure. All of a sudden he knew it was true. She was an idiot. She had done a stupid thing. But he couldn't find it in himself to keep being angry at her. And… this surprised him even more… couldn't be angry at his father either. Not any longer. Not when his sweet wife was waiting safe and sound inside for him.
He stepped forward and caught his friend by the shoulders.
"Go home Abby, go home, rest, relax, go back to uni. You don't need to take time off anymore to look after me or Lily. We're okay."
"Seb… really? We… we're okay?"
He nodded. "We're okay. You, me and Lily. We're okay and we always will be."
She let out a long breath, looked down, gave a determined sniff, scrubbed at her eyes and then turned abruptly on her heel.
"Right, well, I'll be going then! I need to take the morning train to ZuZu tomorrow, gotta catch up on all those lectures I've missed!" She lifted a hand in farewell as she walked away. "Have a wonderful night with your wife, Seb. You two deserve it!"
Sebastian watched her go. She didn't look back but he could tell from the way she carried herself that a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. He sighed and turned back to the farmhouse. Suddenly he felt tired and just wanted one thing. His wife. To see the look on her face when he showed her the present he had made for her.
He opened the kitchen door and stepped back inside.
Tumblr media
He walked into their bedroom to find Lily giggling softly as both their cats took turns in vying for her attention. For a moment he just stood there, soaking in the gentle domestic bliss of his wife stroking their pets, laughing as Nyx's tail waved in her face and Tyx, immediately envious, rolled over and offered a soft belly for rubs.
He smiled and felt his heart expand. Yoba, he loved her. Would never get enough of this. Of her. Of their life together.
"Sebby," she noticed his quiet presence and looked up, her smile causing his heart to swell even more. "I know it sounds bad, I love them all so much, I really do, but it's so nice now that they're gone and it's finally just you and me!"
"I know, baby," he sat on the bed next to her, joining her in dealing with their attention-seeking kitties. "We've had so many visitors since you came home I feel like I've barely had any time alone with you."
"Well, we have all night now," Lily let out a small sigh and collapsed back on her pillows. "Although I feel so tired I'm afraid I'm not going to be much use to you!"
"That doesn't matter," he said and stroked her cheek fondly. "Even if all we do is just cuddle all night and watch movies that's enough for me."
"That sounds nice," she smiled up at him. "I love when we just lie together like that."
"So do I," he bent his head and kissed her. "But hey, before we pick something to watch, do you want to see your present?"
"Oh Sebby, you didn't have to get me anything!"
He laughed. "But you knew I would!" He stood up and reached carefully underneath her, lifting her from the bed, blanket and all.
"Sebby, what are you doing?"
"I'm taking you to see your present," he grinned, wrapping the blanket more securely around her much to her amusement. "It's cold outside and I don't want you to catch a chill."
"I feel like a human burrito," she giggled again as he carried her towards the front door. "And what on earth is my present doing outside anyway?"
"You'll see," his grin grew wider, the sound of her laughter taking away all his earlier tiredness. "Close your eyes," he said as he pushed open the door.
"Wha…?"
"Trust me…" he said softly.
"Okay…"
He carried her outside, set her down gently on her present and stepped back to watch her reaction.
"You can open your eyes now."
"Sebby? What…? Oh!"
She shifted position, looked from left to right then lifted her head and stared up at him with wide eyes. "Oh Seb! This is my Gran's rocking chair, the one we found all broken and abandoned in the cellar…" she ran her hands over the smooth wood of the arms. "I have so many happy memories of sitting in this with her when I was a little girl. You… you fixed it up!"
"I did," he couldn't stop the smile that was taking over his face at her delight. "Well, me and my mom did. Why don't you have a closer look at the headrest?"
She twisted in her seat, trailed her fingers over the carving he had worked so hard on. The carving of their names twined around a single rose.
"Oh Seb…" her voice trembled. "Did you do this?"
"I did, it took me ages, I messed up three times and my mom had to chip out the wood and inlay that section fresh, but I didn't stop till I got it just right!"
"Seb," she turned to look up at him, face full of wonder, so beautiful, so perfect in the rich evening light that for a moment he still couldn't believe she was actually his. "This is amazing… I don't know what to say, this means so much to me!"
Tears rolled slowly down her cheeks, his throat filled, he felt himself moving towards her, drawn by a love so intense it couldn't be denied.
"Because of all this," she sobbed and gestured helplessly at her still bandaged form. "I don't have anything to give you."
"Oh Lily, yes you do," he dropped to his knees before her, cupped her cheek in his hand, stroked away her tears with his thumb. "Stay with me. Forever."
"Oh Seb," she touched his face for a single moment, so sweet he felt his soul ache, then threw her arms around him. "Of course I will!"
He let his tears fall at her touch.
She was his.
He would never be alone again.
He sighed, pulled her close and let the warmth fill him.
Let the memory of that cold empty door closing behind his father finally disappear for good.

Comfort
A Stardew Valley ficlet about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. I wrote this after coming out of a panic attack of my own. I needed something to calm me down and this just felt so right. Timeline-wise this comes after Chapter Twelve of My Everlasting Light.
Synopsis: A few days after the trauma with her ex Lily desperately needs Seb's comfort
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian
Contents: Established Relationship (Dating), Mental Health Issues, Love, Emotional Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: Panic Attack
Tumblr media
Sebastian knew the moment he saw Lily that she was struggling. He'd set aside all his work for the day in order to be by her side as soon as possible and now that he was here he could see all the signs of a panic attack writ clear on her face. How she had managed to even answer the door in that state he didn't know. What he did know was how to cure it.
He closed the door behind him and had her in his arms in an instant.
"Baby," he said softly, lifting her chin and looking into her wide, frightened eyes. "You should have called me, you know I would have been here straight away."
"Oh Seb," her voice quavered as she tried to hold it all in. "I know, I just, I thought if I just tried…"
"You don't need to try so hard," he lifted her up and carried her to her bed. "It's okay to be scared after all you've been through."
He could feel her trembling in his arms, mind caught in memories, body lost in traumas, the anxiety too much for her to bear, tears pouring out of her even before he set her down and his heart broke to see it. He laid down on the covers next to her and pulled her into his arms and that was when the torrents came and she wailed into his chest, shivering and shaking like her world was ending and all he could do was hold her and stroke her and tell her over and over again that it was okay, that he was there, that he would always be there, that this would all pass, it would pass, that she was safe… so safe.
Tumblr media
Lily clung desperately to Seb, burying her face in his chest as tears blurred her vision, she needed him so badly, his warmth, his closeness, his arms so tight around her, the sound of his heartbeat so calm and strong in her ears.
"Seb, please… help me!" she sobbed and shook, heart racing, tugged him even closer, fingers tangling in his clothes, his hair, screaming her pain into him, feeling his hands stroking softly down her back, his sweet voice murmuring soothing words as he rocked her in his arms.
"Shhh, baby, shhh, it's okay, it's okay. I've got you."
"Seb…" she wailed, crying so many tears she felt she couldn't breathe, the fear, the agony so intense she was sure she was going to die, clinging to him ever harder.
"It's okay, just hold on to me."
And she did, she clung to him, because he was the one rock in the raging torrent, her one safe spot, the one thing she could depend on in her whole life, the only thing she had ever been able to depend on, and slowly, slowly the current slowed, her tears ebbed and she let out an exhausted sigh as he lifted her face to meet his gaze and almost started crying again when she saw the endless love in his eyes.
"It's okay, Lily. I'm here. I'm right here. I'm always here."
She whimpered at his tender kiss and the warmth that flowed from his heart to hers, carrying her pain sweetly and gently away.
He was her comfort and he always would be.

Abigail's Jealousy
"Man, what the hell is up with Abigail tonight?" Seb raised his eyebrows at Sam as his friend chalked his cue in preparation for his next shot.
"What do you mean, dude?" Sam studiously avoided his gaze and walked around the pool table, eyeing up all possibilities.
"What do you mean, what do I mean?" Seb snapped impatiently, knowing Sam was being purposefully obtuse. "She's been all over me all night. Touching my arm, trying to get me to teach her how to hold a cue, 'accidentally' brushing up against me. She does know I'm with Lily, right?"
"Oh, that…" Sam cast his gaze towards the ladies room, there was no sign of the goth girl returning just yet. "Yeah, she knows, but she thinks it's just like the other girls you dated and…"
"Well it's not," Sebastian said angrily, "and she needs to get that through her fucking head! Yoba, if I'd ever wanted to hook up with her I've had ample opportunity in the past. I thought she'd gotten the idea by now."
Sam shrugged helplessly. "I know that, dude. I've been trying to tell her, but this thing with Lily has just set her off again. She doesn't seem to be able to think straight when it comes to you."
Seb made a frustrated noise. "Are you going to take that shot or what?"
"Yeah, sorry…" Sam bent over, aimed, missed and cursed.
"Ah, dammit. My concentration's all fucked up now." He stood up and looked at his friend who was scowling as he moved around the table to take his own shot.
"I'll try talking to her again, okay?"
"I'd appreciate it, I don't want her saying anything tonight that could upset Lily."
"Shouldn't she be here soon?"
Sebastian looked up as he sank his own shot with ease, the thought of being with Lily immediately wiping the frown off his face. It was only a week since their dance at the flower festival and he was still getting used to the fact that she was officially his, that he could actually hold her in public now.
"Yeah, she said she was coming over to the saloon tonight once she's finished up with her work on the farm."
"Well, maybe when she turns up Abigail will back off. Uh… speak of the devil…"
Seb twisted his head and groaned internally. The purple haired girl was just exiting the ladies room. For a moment he seriously entertained the thought of just telling her outright to sort herself out, but he didn't want to create a scene and hurt her feelings, she was still his friend after all. Then his gaze was caught by the sight of the saloon's main door opening and his beloved Lily stepping inside. She looked absolutely stunning, slender and elegant in a little green and gold sundress and a pair of strappy sandals, hair waving loosely over her shoulders and back, so radiant that he instantly set down his cue and made his way towards her, all thoughts of Abigail leaving his mind.
Tumblr media
Lily blinked in the sudden brightness of the Saloon's lights. It wasn't completely dark outside yet, but it was still a big contrast to the bar's interior. She felt a wave of fear sweep over her as the smell of food and drink and the villagers' chatter combined with the sudden light to assault all of her senses at once.
"Hey, it's farmer Lily!" Gus called cheerily. "Thanks for those eggs you brought me the other day, they were some of the best I've ever tasted. You should try the omelette I made tonight with the last of them!"
"That's because she looks after those chickens I sold her as well as I do," Marnie smiled in greeting. "It's lovely to see you, Lily. You're always welcome here."
"You certainly are," Mayor Lewis raised his glass in her direction. "It's nice to see you taking some time off, Lily. Your grandfather always worked himself too hard, Yoba rest his soul. I'll have an extra beer in his honour tonight."
"Hi Lily!" Leah called from her seat next to Elliott, the long-haired writer also smiling and waving in quiet greeting. "It was so inspiring to see you and Sebastian at the flower dance, I've been working on a whole new painting based on it. I'll have to show you when it's done!"
Lily took a deep breath and forced herself to laugh and smile at everyone, raising a hand to Willy and Clint at their table near the door and trying and failing to catch the eye of a glum-looking Shane who was leaning against a wall nursing his obligatory pint. She was working so hard to get to know all the villagers, she couldn't let her nerves get the better of her now.
"Good to see you, kid," Pam drawled from her usual spot at the end of the bar, "I'd buy you a drink if I could afford it."
"That's okay, Pam," Lily said, used to this line by now. "I know your tab can't take the damage!"
"I'll be over when my shift's finished, hun," Emily waved madly at her from behind the counter. "Seb and the gang are in their usual spot. Why don't you head on over?"
Lily smiled at her friend and then turned her gaze to the right where she knew the pool table would be. She was so busy looking for Sebastian that she didn't notice Abigail, face like thunder, bearing down on her from the other direction.
He was already coming towards her and she had a moment in which to appreciate his tall, lean form clad in tight black t-shirt and jeans before he had her in his arms and was kissing her with an intensity that made her sigh and then blush when their lips parted and she realised where they were.
"Seb," she looked up into his deep grey eyes, all the panic that had risen within her on entering immediately soothed by his presence. She smiled as his fingers came up to brush against her cheek.
"I missed you, baby," he said softly, gaze fixed on hers. "Where have you been?"
"I meant to be here sooner, Sebby," she said apologetically, "but one of the chickens got out and it took me ages to find it and get it settled for the night. I think there might be a hole in one of the fences."
"I'll come over and help you check for it tomorrow."
"Excuse me, you're in my way!"
Lily jumped and looked to her left to see Abigail glaring a hole right through her.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she flushed and moved aside, trying not to let her anxiety flare anew.
"There's no need to apologise, sweetheart," Sebastian frowned at Abigail. "There's plenty of room for her to get by."
"Hey Lily!" Sam appeared at that moment, surreptitiously placing himself in Abigail's path while at the same time laying a friendly hand on Lily's shoulder. "Glad you could finally make it, Seb's been pining for you all night!"
Sebastian laughed and punched him on the shoulder. The two exchanged a meaningful glance and then Sam grabbed Abigail by the arm and spoke again.
"Me and Abby are just off to the bar to order drinks, what can I get you two?"
"Oh, I'll just have a coke," Lily said. "I'm not really here to get drunk, just to meet friends."
"No problemo," Sam turned to Seb.
"Same for me, dude."
"Coming up," Sam tugged at Abigail's arm. She scowled at him and looked like she was going to refuse.
"Come on, Abby," Sam didn't loosen his grip. "Let's you and I have a little chat while we wait for our drinks." He steered her off towards the bar and Lily stared after them in confusion.
Tumblr media
"What was that about?" Lily looked up at Sebastian, worry creasing her brow. "Did I do something wrong?"
Seb kissed her gently on the forehead. "It's nothing you need to worry about, baby." He took her hand and led her over to the quiet corner that contained the pool table they always hung out at, a Joja Cola dispenser, a blinking Prairie King arcade machine and a couple of slightly the worse for wear couches.
"Is Abby still mad at me?"
"Abby's always mad about something these days, let Sam soften her up a bit."
He sat on the edge of the pool table and pulled her between his legs and into his arms. She still had that sad little frown on her face and he could feel her trembling as he held her. He inwardly cursed Abigail for making Lily fret like this. She was always so sensitive to other people's emotions. It was hard enough for her to come to the saloon without Abby making it even more difficult.
"Hey," he lifted a hand and ran his thumb softly over her lips, gazing into her eyes, feeling his heart melt as always when he looked at her. "It's okay, baby. Don't worry." He brought his other hand up and, cradling her sweet little face, kissed her long and slow, letting his fingers reach deep into the rich waves of her hair as he did so.
She smiled at him when their kiss finally ended and he couldn't help but return it, completely captivated by her. She was so radiant when she smiled. How the hell had he gotten this lucky?
"That's my girl," he said. "Hey, why don't you take my next shot for me while we wait for those two?"
"Oh Seb," she flushed. "I'm terrible at pool, you really want me to mess up your game?"
"Ah, you'll be fine," he laughed, hopping to his feet. "I can show you what to do, no problem. Come here…"
Tumblr media
Abigail glowered over at Sebastian and Lily. "She always has to have all the attention, doesn't she? Look at them, all over each other like that… and what does she think she's wearing? That dress is so short it's indecent."
Sam snorted as he paid Emily for their drinks. "It's no shorter than what you're wearing and they are dating, what do you expect?"
"Well, they don't need to be so forward about it! Look at what they're doing now, she's bending over the table and he's right behind her, I mean it's pretty obvious what…"
"Yoba, Abby… that's just what you've been trying to get him to do all night! You need to get it into your head that she's his girlfriend now!"
Abigail looked at him mutinously. "He's had girlfriends before, it won't last."
Sam stared at her in exasperation. Honestly, this crush Abigail had on Seb was totally out of control. It had been going on for years now and the fact that Seb had never once encouraged her nor shown any interest in her in that way seemed to do little to dissuade her from it. It was like she had a total mental block when it came to him.
"Abigail."
The serious tone of his voice made her turn her head to look at him.
"This time it's different."
No, it's not," she said stubbornly.
"Yes, it is," he reaffirmed. "I've known Seb his whole life and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that this time is different. Hell, you must see it yourself, you just said they're all over each other. Have you ever seen him like this with anyone else? If you were really his friend you'd be happy for him."
Abigail's head dropped, she stared defeatedly into the drink that Emily had just placed in front of her.
"Why her and not me?" she sighed.
Sam softened a little but knew he couldn't go easy on her.
"That's just the way it is, Abby. So you have to back off Seb, okay? He's with Lily now and he's not going to leave her."
Abigail looked over at the two of them again and said nothing for so long that Sam started to worry he'd broken her brain or something, then she stood up, pushing back her stool.
"I'm gonna head home. I'll see you later."
She walked towards the door, pushed it open and let it swing shut loudly behind her. Sam winced and wondered if he'd just made things better or worse. Then he shrugged and picked up their drinks. Well, there was nothing else to be done about it right now.
Tumblr media
Lily shivered as Sebastian moved around her and bent over to show her how to line up her shot. Her entire world narrowed down to him and the way he felt this close to her. His arms around her, his hands on hers, his body so warm at her back. For a moment she couldn't breathe, couldn't think, felt her heart start to pound faster as he whispered in her ear.
"Just hold the cue like this and let your arm move freely, okay?"
She tried to relax, turned her head to look at him, felt warmth flare through her when her eyes met his. He smiled at her and she took the shot without even looking, unable to concentrate on anything but the way he was making her feel.
She yelped in surprise when she heard the ball thud into a pocket. "Oh!" she looked back at the table. "I did it!"
"Of course you did," he said, still holding her. "That was a great shot, Lily. I told you you could do it!"
"Only because you helped me," she said, looking back at him again. She could see it in his eyes, how he wanted her as badly as she wanted him, they were both breathing fast as they forced themselves to stand upright, she turned to face him and he moved closer to her, backed her against the table, ran his fingers into her hair, pressed himself against her, kissed her passionately, his hand caressing her waist.
"Ahem…" Sam coughed meaningfully and put their drinks on the edge of the table. They both jumped and looked at him guiltily.
"You two need to get a room," Sam laughed and took a long swig of his cider. "You embarrassed Abigail so much you made her leave!"
"She left?" Sebastian looked at his friend questioningly and Sam shrugged his shoulders.
"Yeah, no worries though, I think it'll be alright now."
Once again some unspoken message was exchanged between the two of them and Lily felt her anxiety rear its head. Sebastian must have noticed because he immediately pulled her close and kissed her again, albeit slightly more chastely this time.
"No need to start worrying again, baby, we're all used to dealing with Abigail's moods around here. Now, how about you watch in awe as your man destroys Sam at pool?"
"Hey, that's pretty big talk!"
Seb looked over his shoulder at him and rolled his eyes sardonically. "Have you ever beaten me yet, dude?"
"There's a first time for everything," Sam said, picking up his cue with a competitive grin.
Lily laughed nervously and sat down with her drink, watching as the two friends companionably bickered with each other. After a few matches Emily came over to join them and Lily began to relax a little. She felt most at ease with these three people out of everyone in the valley and the night gradually passed by in a haze of chatter and endless hugs and kisses from her love, who refused to put her down despite all of Sam's good natured jibes.
Tumblr media
Lily breathed deeply and studied her face in the mirror. She had just finished brushing her teeth and had slipped into the usual black vest and knickers that she always wore to bed. She was trying very hard to calm herself again. The night had gone reasonably well once Abigail had left but she still felt uncomfortable about the whole situation. She hated being the cause of any disagreement among friends and the feeling that someone disliked her so much filled her with fear and anxiety. She shivered and tried to steer her mind away from that and back into the present. She was safe at home now and her Sebby was staying the night. She was always happiest when it was just the two of them.
She walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, feeling a thrill run through her when she saw Seb lying in bed, looking absolutely gorgeous in nothing but a pair of black boxers, legs long and lean, chest bare and finely sculpted. His black hair waved softly all around his face and his eyes were deep, dark and beautiful, fixed on her to the accompaniment of the sweetest, most appreciative smile she had ever seen. She felt her heart skip a beat as he held out a hand to her.
"Hey beautiful, come join me."
She smiled in return and went to him, lying down on top of him, loving the feeling of his arms slipping around her and pulling her close. She let out a quavering breath and buried her face into his neck, tangling her fingers in the silk of his hair. He seemed to feel the shiver that ran through her and lifted her chin gently.
"What's wrong, baby?" he asked, looking at her fondly. "Are you still worrying about Abby?"
"I am…" she frowned. "Oh Sebby, I'm sorry. I'm trying not to let it bother me, but…"
"Hey," he stroked her hair. "You don't need to apologise. It'll be okay, she'll get over it in time."
"You're right… I know you're right, it's just… oh… you know how I get when I think people don't like me."
"I know," he carried on stroking her hair and then smiled and ran a finger softly from her nose down to her lips. "You know I like you, don't you?"
"Yes," she giggled a little at his teasing touch.
"And you like me?"
Lily flushed at the playful yet intense look in his eyes. Like him? Oh Yoba yes, she liked him. She loved him. Adored him. Wanted him with a passion that constantly amazed her.
"Of course I do!" She pressed herself up against him, heart pounding, kissed him like he was the sweetest thing she had ever tasted.
He laughed at her enthusiasm, one hand sliding down to her waist, the other still playing with her hair.
"Why don't we take your mind off things by showing just how much we like each other?"
Lily let out a soft little moan as he took her lips with his own, happily surrendering to his sweet caresses.
"I love you, Seb," she sighed.
"I love you too, Lily," he murmured into their kiss and her heart sang with joy as he wrapped his arms around her, all her thoughts and anxieties drifting away on the sweet river of their mutual desire.

If He Disappeared
A Stardew Valley ficlet about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily.
Notes: I'm still working on the next part of Everything to Me but I thought it would be nice to post this in the meantime. It's a little piece that ultimately didn't find a place in part two but I loved writing it so here it is anyway!
Synopsis: In the wake of his father's visit Lily reminds Seb of just how much he means to her
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Mental Health Issues, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Love, Fade to Black Ending
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Lily set the last of the food on the table and cast a glance at the clock. Sebastian had been gone for nearly two hours now and although she knew he needed time alone to process his feelings she couldn't help but worry about him. Ever since his father's visit she had watched him struggle not to slip back into his old melancholy and it hurt her to see him so sad.
Nyx and Tyx, their two cats, wound around her ankles, mewing in well-practised unison. She smiled and bent to pet both of them. Her smile grew softer as Tyx, now adolescent, purred furiously at the attention. She remembered Seb gifting her this precious Birman kitten last Winter Star, how he had spent the whole day striving to give her the best holiday ever, knowing how miserable her childhood had been and wanting to make it all up to her.
How badly she wanted to do the same for him. To take away all the pain of the abandoned little boy inside him. To see him smile again.
She climbed to her feet and moved to the door, thinking that she might take a walk up the path into town to meet him. He should be coming home soon, he'd promised he'd be back for dinner.
She stepped into the evening air and let out a little cry of surprise at the sight of her husband sitting on the porch steps, shoulders hunched, head hanging, twisting the chain of his mermaid pendant so hard between his fingers that she feared it might snap. He looked up at the sound of her arrival, his big, beautiful eyes full of so much pain that she had to bite back another cry at the sight of it.
"Sebby!" she tried to sound cheerful, hand unconsciously seeking the matching pendant around her own neck. "There you are, I was just coming to look for you. Dinner's ready and I just fed the kitties. We've all been missing you like crazy!"
"You have?" His mouth twisted and his head dropped again. He let out a bitter little sound, half a laugh, half a sigh. "I doubt it… hell, if I just disappeared would it really matter?"
"Oh Sebby…" Lily's throat filled, tears pricked at her eyes. Her sweet boy…. she couldn't bear to hear him say such things.
She walked down the steps and sat herself squarely in his lap, loving the fact that despite his distress his arms still instinctively came up to hold her.
"Lily!" his eyes were wide and wondering. "I…"
"No," she shook her head, laid a finger on his lips. "Don't say anything else. Those aren't your words, they're your father's." She stroked his cheek. "It would matter if you disappeared. It would matter so much, because if you did you'd take my heart with you. I love you, Sebby. You're my husband. I wouldn't want to live if you weren't here with me."
"Lily..." He gazed at her like she was his sun, moon and stars all in one then grasped her face in both hands and kissed her desperately.
"Seb..." she responded in kind, heart aching with desire, didn't complain when he picked her up, didn't complain when he carried her past her carefully prepared meal, didn't complain when he laid her down on their bed...
...because she knew they both needed a different kind of sustenance right now.

The Start of Things
A Stardew Valley ficlet about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. Timeline-wise this little piece fits after Chapter Eight of My Everlasting Light.
Synopsis: The morning after their first time Seb & Lily share a sweet moment together
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian
Contents: Established Relationship (Dating), Love, Romance, Fluff
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Sebastian opened his eyes and blinked in the early morning light. For a moment he just lay still and watched the dust spiralling slowly through the sunbeams, basking in contentment, enjoying the feel of the warmth on his body and remembering…
Remembering last night.
He smiled and kissed the shoulder of the woman spooned so sweetly in front of him then propped himself up one elbow and gazed down at her. His heart filled at the sight of her peaceful face and he gently stroked her hair, loving the softness, loving the closeness, loving her.
And how he loved her. Completely. Utterly. He had never felt anything as intense as what he had felt with her last night. Their love making had lasted for hours, neither one able to have enough of the other, every touch, every kiss, leading to more, a sweet fire that rather than burning them up had instead sustained them all night, wrapped in each others arms, eyes locked together, bodies alive from head to toe.
It was everything he had dreamed it would be and more.
If only every moment of his life could be with her…
"Lily…" he murmured her name, let his fingers trail slowly along her flank, feeling last night's electricity return anew.
"Seb…" she sighed and turned to face him, her beautiful eyes opening and fixing on his. "Oh, Sebby…" her mouth trembled as she reached up to touch his cheek. "You're really here… I'm so glad… it wasn't a dream after all."
"No, baby," his heart, already full to bursting, ached for her. He caught her hand in his, twined his fingers around hers. "It wasn't a dream. It was real and I'm right here."
"Seb…" two tears spilled slowly from her eyes. "Don't leave, Seb. Don't leave today. I don't want you to go. Please stay with me all day."
He fought down his own urge to cry and gently brushed her tears away.
"I'll stay, Lily," he promised, kissing her softly. "I don't want to leave today either."
She let out a little whimper and he groaned and pulled her into his chest, tangling his fingers in her hair, holding her as close as he possibly could.
Ah Yoba, he never wanted to leave her. Not ever. This was just the start of things.
He was going to make her his forever.

Covered in Ducks
A Stardew Valley one shot about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. I decided to take advantage of my positive mood today and finally finished a sweet, silly little story I've had sitting around for ages...
Synopsis: Lily and Seb welcome some new arrivals to the farm
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian
Contents: Established Relationship (Married), Love, Romance, Ducklings, Fluff
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Sebastian smiled as he refilled his coffee cup from the pot in the kitchen and noticed the tray of snacks Lily had laid nearby for him. It was so typical of her, no matter how busy she was with work she always found the time to make his favourite foods and he loved coming into the kitchen each day to see what she had put out for him.
Today she had left an assortment of fresh baked cookies and when he went into the fridge for milk his smile grew wider when he saw the sushi rolls and seaweed salad carefully arranged on a plate for his lunch.
Just when he'd thought he couldn't possibly love her any more!
He carried his findings back to his desk and although he had to fight Nyx for the sushi rolls he thoroughly enjoyed every morsel his wife had made for him, finally finishing up just as his phone buzzed on the desk next to him. He picked it up and opened his messages, laughing when he saw the photo she'd sent him, a close-up of her smiling face with a fluffy little duckling held against her cheek.
'My new best friend!' the text underneath said. 'Well, other than you, my darling! xxxx!'
It went off again while he held it and he smiled to see 'Oops, forgot to say I'll be back soon. Ring you when I get there, ok?'
He put the phone down and stroked Nyx, who was busy cleaning his plate with great dedication, before returning to his work, feeling his usual pang of anticipation at the thought of Lily's return.
He missed her like crazy whenever they were apart, even if only for a few hours. It had surprised him at first because he was an inherent loner, always more than happy with his own company, but Lily had felt like a part of him ever since he first met her, someone he felt so comfortable with that it felt wrong to him when she wasn't there. He knew it would probably sound cringe to most people, but his wife completed him in every way and he was always happiest when she was around.
Sinking slowly into his work he had just started to lose track of time when his phone went off again. This time it was a call and he picked it up eagerly.
"Hey baby!" he exclaimed. "Are you back?"
"I am, but I'm a bit tied up at the moment! Can you come down to the pond to meet me?"
"Sure thing, I'm on my way right now!"
"Yay!" Lily giggled. "I can't wait to see you. Oh! Eeeek! What are you doing, you naughty thing?"
There was a little clunk as she dropped her phone and he hung up with a smile, put his sneakers on and headed out the door. It sounded like those ducklings were giving her a hard time and as her husband it was obviously his duty to go rescue her!
Tumblr media
He made his way down to the new coop and pen his mom had made for the ducklings. The pond they'd dug was covered at the moment as it was too dangerous for them to swim in straight away. He heard sounds of commotion from inside and pushed open the door to find Lily sitting in the middle of the brooder box completely covered in chirping, peeping ducklings. Little balls of fluff sat on her head, her shoulders, climbed in her lap and generally waddled clumsily and haphazardly all over her, seeming to all have fallen helplessly in love with the girl who had just brought them home.
It was all so ridiculous and adorable that all he could do was stand there and laugh as his wife turned to him with that sweet smile he loved so much and offered him one of the ducklings.
"Oh Sebby…" she cried as she held it out in the palm of her hands "…they're so crazy, but I love them so much. Look how cute this one is!"
He knelt down next to her, took the offered soft little bundle and stroked it gently, lifting his eyes to meet hers as he did so.
Ah Yoba, she was so beautiful, literally radiating light, his sunshine in every single way. He opened his mouth to speak but could only sigh. He loved her so much. Nothing could possibly be as cute as she was right now.
He set the duckling down on the ground, reached out to cup his wife's face and kissed her with all his heart before pulling her to him and wrapping his arms around her, rocking her gently, closing his eyes and smiling as ducklings continued to hop all over them, so happy to be gifted this moment with her…
…a moment lost in love, warmth and contentment… and completely, totally and utterly covered in ducks!

Forever, With You
"You okay, bro?" Sam asked. Sebastian glanced distractedly at him, then the clock, then fidgeted with his tie for about the fortieth time, then looked at the clock again. "You look nervous as all hell."
The two were waiting in Sam's bedroom for the time when they would head out to the wedding venue. The rest of their families were chattering loudly in the living room and they had moved in here to try and assuage Sebastian's anxiety but Sam wasn't sure if it was working. He had seen his friend on edge before but this was a whole new level. He had spent what seemed like an age pacing back and forth, wringing his hands and, if he hadn't given up smoking, Sam was sure he would have gone through a whole pack by now.
Sebastian sank down on his friend's bed, put his head in his hands and let out a long, heartfelt sigh.
"I'm okay," he said softly. "Really, I am. I just… I can't believe it's actually happening." He looked up and Sam was shocked to see tears glistening in his eyes. "I'm so happy. I never thought in a million years that anything like this would happen to me. I'm going to marry Lily. She's going to be my wife. How did I get this lucky, Sam? Is this really happening?"
He started to cry then, seeming almost surprised by his own tears. Sam let out a sigh of his own and sat down on the bed next to him. He'd known Seb since they were both kids and loved him like a brother. He knew how much he'd suffered, how lost and alone he'd felt for most of his life, and he also knew that right now these tears were probably the best thing that had ever happened to him.
He put an awkward arm around his friend. "Yeah, dude, it's really happening. You've finally found where you belong."
Sebastian let out a sob and the two of them sat together in companionable silence, even Sam knowing that sometimes words just weren't necessary anymore.

"I swear to Yoba, Lily," Haley declared. "If you don't wear some make-up on your wedding day I'm going to have to burn your farm down or something!"
"Haley!" Emily looked shocked and then frowned and folded her arms. "Except for the farm burning I am actually on my sister's side this time. Lily, you just have to do this for your wedding day, I think it's actually the law!"
"They're right!" Maru exclaimed, pointing at her face. "Look at me, I'm a science geek and even I'm wearing lipstick!"
Lily looked at her bridesmaids and then threw up her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, for the sake of peace. But only a little!" She felt so nervous that she really didn't want to fight with them on this. Besides which, they had all done so much for her today, getting her through the morning when her anxiety had threatened to completely cripple her, helping her into her dress, arranging her hair so beautifully, how could she deny them this one last thing?
"Oh, wonderful!" Haley clapped her hands together. "I'll just go get my stuff! Maru, come help me look for that eyeshadow set, I think you had it last."
Emily and Lily watched as the two girls headed off to Haley's room. When the door closed behind them Emily laid a hand on Lily's shoulder and looked at her in the mirror.
"How are you doing, hun?" she asked. "Now that they've gone, you can tell me the truth."
"Oh, Em," Lily's face crumpled and tears started to fall. "I'm so nervous I can't stand it! I'm afraid of all the people that are going to be there, of being the centre of attention, that I'm not going to look right, that I'll make a fool of myself, that…"
"Hey, shush now," Emily spun the chair her friend was sitting in around, knelt down and gathered her into her arms. "Now stop all that, shush." She patted her softly on the back. "You look beautiful and you are going to be just fine. Why don't you tell me what this day is really all about, hmm? Why don't you tell me what you want more than anything right now?"
"I want Seb!" Lily wailed. "I want my Sebby, I want to be in his arms right now. I love him so much!"
"That's right, Lily," Emily gently stroked her hair. "That's what you want and that's what this day is all about. It's about you and Seb. All you need to worry about is being with him, okay? Keep your heart focused on that and everything else will flow perfectly because that's how love works."
Haley and Maru returned at that moment, make-up bags in hand, chattering brightly, then stopped and gazed in confusion at the sobbing bride. Emily waved a meaningful hand in their direction and for once, the normally exuberant girls immediately understood and sat down beside the two of them, adding their own quiet, comforting arms to the mix.

"Mom, if you make my tie any tighter you're gonna choke me!" Sebastian exclaimed as his mother fussed over his shirt collar. "You know I'm just going to loosen it again the moment you leave."
"Oh, I know, Sebby," his mom lifted a hand to her face to wipe away a tear. "I'm sorry, you just look so handsome. Oh… my little Sebby… getting married..."
"Now, now, come on dear," Demetrius caught her by the shoulders and started to lead her away. "You need to take your seat, the ceremony will be starting soon."
"I know, I'm coming!" Robin flapped a hand at him and turned to her son one last time. "I'm so proud of you, Sebby, and so happy for you and Lily," she whispered before finally letting her husband lead her off to her seat.
Sebastian stared after them, hand absent mindedly going to his tie and loosening the knot his mother had made. It was true, it would be starting soon, everyone was in place, the rows of seats filled with all the villagers, his parents and Lily's mom at the front, everyone else arrayed behind. There was Jodi with Vincent squirming in his chair next to her, looking extremely uncomfortable in his child sized suit. Pierre and Caroline sat sedately next to a grinning Abigail who was dressed in her usual purple and black and waving at him wildly before giving him her signature piercing wolf whistle. He wasn't entirely sure it was appropriate behaviour for a wedding but he was glad to see her nevertheless.
The older bachelors, Gus, Harvey and Willy were all grouped together, big smiles on their faces, Penny sat next to her mother Pam, who, for once, appeared to be sober and Elliott and Leah were together as usual. Marni and Shane were trying to coral an excited Jas, who was running around wildly exclaiming how she wanted a wedding of her own while the Mulners had taken an entire row to themselves, several chairs having been moved aside for the ever cantankerous George and his wheelchair. Clint, Gunther and Marlon were sitting in solitary seats at the back and even Linus was there, looking particularly nervous in a tweed suit he had borrowed just for the occasion.
Lily had wanted to get married as soon as possible after he proposed and so they'd arranged a fall wedding in the open air of the forest clearing where the flower dance was usually held. A rose covered wooden arbour arched over the altar where Mayor Lewis stood waiting to start the ceremony, ribbons fluttered everywhere and red, golden and orange flowers lined the aisle, all thanks to Evelyn and Caroline, who had both pitched in to make things as beautiful as possible. The nearby trees were fiery with their autumnal coats, falling leaves drifting lazily in the cool breeze and buffet tables were arranged around the edges of the field, little tables and chairs set ready for people to eat and talk at once the ceremony was over.
"How you feeling now, dude?" Sam asked into the noisy chatter of the assembled villagers.
Sebastian looked at his best man, standing solid and beaming as always by his side. He felt a surge of gratitude for his friend, who had gone above and beyond the call of duty in supporting him and helping him arrange all of this.
"I'm okay." He looked up and around at everything, the sea of faces, the flowers, the swirling leaves.
Now was the time. Now was the moment he'd been waiting for. He closed his eyes and sighed.
"I'm actually feeling okay."
"That's good, bro, because here she comes."
A hush finally descended on the gathering and then a sweet little swell of piano music sounded in the air. It was one of the songs he'd written for Lily, soft and lilting, she'd chosen it to walk down the aisle to because she said it always calmed her down, just like he did.
And then he saw her, walking alongside her smiling friend Emily, who she had chosen to give her away in place of her father. The blue haired girl had donned a suit for the occasion and Haley and Maru, wearing simple rust coloured bridesmaid's dresses, trailed behind them, small baskets of flowers held in their hands. But it was Lily who took all his attention, who made everything else disappear, the whole world fading into soft focus as his wife to be moved slowly towards him.
She was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The most radiant thing he'd ever seen. She carried a bouquet of orange and cream roses, her dark auburn hair tumbling in endless waves around her face and over her shoulders, more flowers holding a long, flowing veil in place. Her hazel eyes were bright and shining, her smile sweet and shy, her lips so soft and dusky he felt like he wanted to kiss them forever. The mermaid pendant he'd given her at the feast of the moonlight jellies nestled between her breasts which were cradled in an ivory dress made of intricately layered and embroidered silk and tulle, moulding perfectly to her slender body, flaring smoothly out into a drifting skirt, just as delicate and stunning as the woman who wore it.
"Lily," he whispered her name and held out his hand as she finally came to a halt by his side. When she smiled and placed her hand in his he felt like his heart was about to burst. All he could do was smile back at her, staring at her like she was his own personal sun and he could never, ever have his fill of her.
She was everything he'd ever wanted in his entire life and she was about to become his forever.
Tumblr media
Lily gazed into the eyes of the man who was soon to be her husband and felt her heart expand. He was so handsome in his perfectly fitted suit and tie, his jet black hair like silk, falling in soft strands around his face, touching on his smooth, dark brows, framing his flawless skin, enhancing his large, deep grey eyes, so compelling beneath his long lashes, and his smile, oh Yoba, his smile was brilliant, all hint of his former melancholy gone so that all she wanted to do was throw herself into his arms and only Mayor Lewis coughing and stuttering through the start of the ceremony reminded her that this wasn't the right time just yet.
"Ahem… Dear friends, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of this man and woman in marriage. It's not so long ago that Lily first moved to our town and I couldn't be happier to see her and Sebastian come together on this day. Long may their union last. I understand that both participants have written their own vows. Sebastian, if you'd like to proceed…"
Sebastian took a deep breath and she smiled up at him, knowing he must be just as nervous as she felt. She held his hand tighter, willing all her love into him and his gaze softened, something seeming to settle inside him as her fingers squeezed his.
"Lily," his voice wavered slightly then grew suddenly stronger. "My Lily... I lost my heart to you the very first moment I saw you and it's been yours ever since. You've given me everything I ever needed in my life. With you I've found the peace, happiness and contentment I never thought I'd have. You took away my loneliness, my sadness, all the years I'd spent feeling worthless, you took it all away and made me feel wanted, like I finally belonged somewhere. With you, Lily. I belong with you. I live for you and you alone. For your beautiful face, your sweet smile, your gentle nature and the love you give so freely."
Sam stepped forward to pass Sebastian her wedding ring. It was the same rose ring he had given her back in their garden, she had never wanted any other, and now it would be the ring that bound them together. He looked deep into her eyes as he slid it on her finger and she let out a little whimper, heart aching, desperate to kiss him…
"Lily, the first time I gave you this ring, I swore to always protect you, that I would never let anyone hurt you ever again. And I promise you that again now. I promise that I will spend the rest of my life loving you, caring for you, protecting you, making you happy in every way I can. You're the most precious thing in the world to me, I never want to be parted from you. Please be mine, Lily. Be my wife…"
"Oh Seb…" she sobbed out his name, completely overwhelmed, wanting nothing more than to hold him and promise him over and over again that she would be his forever.
"And now you, Lily," the mayor turned to her.
"Say what you feel, hun," Emily whispered to her, pressing Sebastian's wedding ring into her palm. "Just say what you feel."
Lily gasped and released her tears, raw emotion flooded free and her words gushed forth, all her prepared vows forgotten, nothing but the purest of love guiding her heart.
Tumblr media
"Seb! Oh Seb! I love you! I love you so much! I will never ever leave you, I promise! I've thought about nothing but your face, your voice, your smile, every single day since I met you! All I've ever wanted to do is make you happy, to take your sadness away, to make you know that you're so special, worth so so much, everything in the world! I love every single thing about you, you're the sweetest man I've ever known! I want to be with you forever Seb, forever… because... because yours are the only eyes I've ever been able to look into without fear! You're the only person who makes me feel safe! I need to be in your arms so badly Sebby, oh please, hold me forever, don't let me go, I need you so much… please, please... be my husband!"
Sebastian stared at her as she struggled to slide the ring onto his finger, one that matched hers save for the rose, with the same silver twisting leaves and vines. She was sobbing so helplessly, gripping his hand so tightly, tears pouring down her cheeks, her body trembling, her heart in her eyes, he knew that all her words were unrehearsed, that she was literally opening her soul to him and he loved her for it, felt tears forming in his own eyes…
"Oh Lily," he whispered her name, fully aware that the mayor was staring nonplussed at both of them, but still completely unable to stop his tears from joining hers.
"Ah… erm…" the Mayor gaped at the crying couple and turned to look at Sam for help.
"Say the words, dude," Sam encouraged with a grin. "Believe me, they're ready."
"Um… do you, Sebastian Dawson, take this woman, Lily Rose Donnelly, to be your wife?"
"I do," Sebastian pulled Lily into his arms and kissed her, quieting her sobs with his lips, lifting his hand to her face to smooth away her tears.
"Uh…" the mayor looked supremely flustered.
"Carry on, dude," Sam nudged him.
"Ah, do you, Lily Rose Donnelly, take this man, Sebastian Dawson, to be your husband?"
"I do," Lily sobbed out between kisses.
"Um… ah… then as the mayor of Pelican Town, and regional bearer of the matrimonial seal, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may, er, continue to kiss the bride."
Sebastian wrapped his arms even more tightly around his wife, kissing her with a depth and intensity he'd never felt before, even with her, his heart so full of love and happiness that he could feel it glowing, his entire being pouring into her, melding with her, his whole body thrumming like electricity was running through him. He never wanted to let go of her, never wanted to spend another minute apart from her.
"Um… how long are they going to keep kissing for?" Mayor Lewis asked helplessly.
"Just let them be," Emily said, smiling benevolently at the two newly weds. "I think they just really need each other right now."
"Three cheers for Seb and Lily!" Sam called out, striding to the front of the aisle. "Mr and Mrs Dawson everyone!"
Cheers rang out and people rose from their seats and started clapping but for that one long moment all Seb and Lily knew was each other and the sweetness of their embrace.
Tumblr media
"Wow!" Haley exclaimed as Sebastian and Lily finally began their walk back down the aisle to the accompaniment of much rice and petal throwing. "It's a good thing I used waterproof make up on Lily, imagine how messy the wedding photos would have been otherwise!"
"You might want to check out Robin," Emily nudged her sister and pointed with a wry smile at the red haired carpenter who was busy blowing her nose loudly on her handkerchief as her husband patted ineffectually at her heaving shoulders. "I don't think she had the same foresight and she's due to be in the pictures too!"
"Oh Yoba!" Haley took one look at the smudged eyes of Sebastian's weeping mother and headed off towards her bag of photography gear that lay near the buffet tables. "I think I might have some tissues in my bag. It's time for me to switch from bridesmaid duties to photographer mode anyway."
Emily stared after her retreating sister and then turned back to see Sebastian pick Lily up and carry her down the aisle. She couldn't help but feel some tears prick at her own eyes. He held her so close, kissed her so gently, gazed at her with such devotion that it was beautiful to see. She felt so happy for her friend. Lily had been such a timid, frightened little thing when she first came to Pelican Town, hardly venturing off her farm and when she did it was only to come into town for the absolute essentials. Emily had first bumped into her in Pierre's store and had instantly seen what a sweet natured individual lay beneath all the fears. She had felt it part of her duty in making the world a better place to befriend this shy girl and help her come out of her shell. She had never expected to be aided so much in this by Sebastian of all people.
Like most of the town residents she had never really known him that well, as he too kept himself to himself, but she had come to see over the last half a year just what a caring person he actually was and she had also seen first hand just how good he was for Lily. It really was as though the two of them had been made for each other. She narrowed her eyes and cast a glance at their auras, feeling a warmth in her heart when she saw the soft pink clouds that surrounded them both, spreading from one to the other in gentle bubbling streams, glowing with inner light wherever their bodies touched.
"Oh Lily," she said, finally letting her tears fall. "I'm so happy for you, my friend. You really have found the love of your life, there's no mistaking an aura like that. You two belong together in every way."
Tumblr media
Lily finished arranging the final vase and stepped back to appreciate her work. There had been so many beautiful flowers at the wedding and she had tried to bring as many back with her as she could, wanting them around for as long as possible to remind her what a wonderful, albeit exhausting, day it had been.
Speaking of exhausting, she cast a concerned glance in the direction of their bedroom. Seb had gone in there a short while ago, supposedly to change out of his suit before returning to help her out of her dress, but she hadn't seen or heard a single sign of him since he disappeared. She approached the room softly and poked her head around the door to see her new husband stretched out on his side on the bed, white shirt unbuttoned, but otherwise still wearing his suit, his tie the only thing he'd managed to take off. He was fast asleep, the roses from her bouquet, which he'd been meant to be placing in a vase beside their bed, scattered on the pillow and comforter around him. She smiled and took herself into the bathroom. She didn't want to disturb him when he was resting so peacefully and she was sure she could manage to get out of the dress on her own if she studied it carefully in the mirror.
She did manage, after a lot of fumbling, to unzip the dress and gently peeled it off, not wanting to damage it in any way. Emily had spent so long working on it and it was the most beautiful garment she had ever owned. She folded it carefully and placed it back in the tissue lined box from which she had taken it that morning.
Morning. It seemed such a long time ago now. She had been so nervous and so much had happened since then. So many sweet, beautiful moments. She could hardly believe it. She looked at herself in the mirror as she gently unpinned her veil and combed out her hair. She felt a little sad to be taking it all off but fatigue tugged at her and all of a sudden she wanted nothing more than to lie in the arms of her husband. She slipped on the soft white chemise she had set aside for changing into after the wedding, turned towards the door connecting to their bedroom and opened it, quietly padding over towards the bed where he slept.
Her heart fluttered as she gazed down at him, loving every single curve and line of his face. He looked so beautiful while he was sleeping, his long lashes resting on his smooth cheeks, his silky black hair falling softly over his brows, she longed to touch him and before she could stop herself she was sitting on the bed next to him, stroking his skin and gazing into two deep, dark eyes that fluttered open at her contact.
"Hey, sweetheart," he smiled tiredly, reaching up to lazily caress her face. "I'm sorry, I was meant to help you out of that dress, wasn't I?"
"It's okay," she said, leaning her cheek into the warmth of his hand, loving the fondness in his eyes. "I managed it on my own… I didn't want to wake you."
He let out a soft little laugh and gently pulled her down onto the bed beside him. "Come lie with me, Lily," he said, "I know you must be as worn out as I am."
"I am tired," she agreed, snuggling wearily into his chest. She felt his arms settle around her, let out a little sigh and then, before she knew it, she was asleep, her head resting in the crook of his shoulder.
Tumblr media
Sebastian woke first and checked the bedside clock. They'd slept for a good three hours, unsurprising as they'd both been pushed way beyond their socialising limits today. He dropped his gaze to Lily's face, watching her as she slept. He'd always loved to watch her sleep, loved how quickly she always drifted off in his arms, it made his heart full beyond all belief to know that she felt so safe with him. It was all he'd wanted to do for so long when he first met her, to just hold her like this, and now he got to do it every single day. He reached up and gently ran his fingers through her hair. Yoba, she was so beautiful, he loved her so much, couldn't believe she was actually his, wondered if he would ever believe it. He lifted the hand that held her wedding ring and smiled to himself.
His wife. She was his wife.
He reached out to touch her face, willing her to wake so he could look into her eyes, and, almost as though hearing his thoughts, her eyes flickered open and he found himself staring into their soft hazel depths, lost as always in the spiralling colours they held.
"Hi Sebby," she peered up at him sleepily then yawned and stretched in his arms, letting out the sweetest little squeak as she did so.
"Ah Yoba, Lily," he groaned and pulled her into his chest. "You are so cute when you do that!"
She giggled in his arms. "Should I do it again then?"
"Only if you want to kill me with cuteness!"
"I definitely don't want that!" She giggled again and slipped her arms around his neck, kissing him softly. "Have you been awake long?"
"A little while," he said, chasing her lips with his own and kissing her some more, feeling like he never wanted to stop. "I admit I spent some time just appreciating you."
She smiled into their kisses and he shivered at the feel of her, letting his hands slide gently up and down her back, gliding over the smooth silk that clung to her slender body. "Did you wear this specifically for our wedding night?" he asked appreciatively.
"Maybe," she responded playfully, lifting a leg and wrapping it around him. "Do you like it?"
"I like anything if you're in it," he said, dropping a hand to her hip. "But you do look especially good in this."
"Mmmm," she murmured as he nuzzled her neck. "I like being woken up like this."
"And I like waking you," he said softly, pulling her closer so that their bodies pressed together, loving her warmth even through the layers of their clothing.
And then their caresses were interrupted by a loud clang from outside swiftly followed by the sound of frantic meowing from the front door. They both jumped and then smiled at each another.
"Oh!" Lily raised a hand to her face, eyes wide. "I was so tired I forgot all about poor Nyx!"
"Does this make us bad cat parents?" Sebastian said with a wry grin.
"It might," Lily said with a laugh. "I'd better go see to her!"
"But I don't want to let you go," he complained, wrapping his arms more firmly around her and kissing her again.
He wasn't playing, he really didn't want to let her go, just holding her felt so good right now.
"I don't want to go either," she smiled fondly and brushed his hair with her fingers. "But I don't think Nyx is going to quiet down till I let her in. I'll be as quick as I can, okay?"
"Okay," he reluctantly let her go and watched her every step of the way as she walked out of the room. She was so perfect, all slender curves and long legs, like a little fawn, her auburn hair falling down her back and over her shoulders. His hand went to the mermaid pendant around his neck, his heart already longing for her return.
Tumblr media
Lily returned from placating Nyx to find Sebastian lying naked in bed waiting for her. He had the sheets turned back ready for her, the raven sweep of his hair and the long, lean lines of his body a work of art in the low light of the bedside lamp.
"As good as you look in that," he said, eyes dark and intense on hers. "I want you to take it off for me."
She whimpered and obeyed instantly, utterly unable to do anything else before that mesmerising gaze. The silky material fell to the floor in a little heap at her feet and a look of satisfaction swept across his face.
"Come here."
He held out a hand to her and she felt a little thrill run through her at the sight of him. She had never seen anything so beautiful as the way he looked right now. Her husband. Waiting for her to come to him.
She took his hand and let him guide her down onto the bed.
"I want to feel my wife's skin next to mine," he said, voice thick with desire as he slid his arms around her and pulled her close. She let out a little cry as she felt him hard against her immediately.
"Already…?" she looked up into his eyes, shivering with her own need.
"You know I always want you, baby," he murmured, slowly sliding himself inside her and she sighed as their bodies pressed even more firmly together. Oh, Yoba, he fit her so well, she loved the way he felt, just long enough and wide enough to fill her completely without ever hurting her.
He didn't move, just let himself rest deep within her as their lips met and they sighed into each other's mouths, their hands gently caressing each other's backs. Lily felt a gentle pulse of warmth flow between their chests and pulled him to her till not a single inch separated them, loving the sweet, familiar sensation, wanting more of him, all of him, all that she could ever have…
"Oh Seb," she searched his eyes, hands tangling deep into his hair, body trembling against his. "I love you, I love being like this with you, it feels like your heart's inside me, too."
"That's because it is, baby," he stroked her hair, his gaze so full of tenderness that she shook even harder. He kissed her gently. "Everything I am is inside of you, Lily. I'm all yours, my love."
"Sebby…" Lily sobbed, reached up to take his face in her hands and kissed him as though her life depended on it, tears pouring down her cheeks. "Oh Sebby, I love you, I love you so much, you're my everything, I'm so happy! All I ever wanted from the day I met you was to spend forever in your arms, just to be with you forever!"
"I can give you forever, Lily," he smiled, smoothed her hair from her face, kissed her tears away. "I can give you forever. That's all I ever wanted too."
He moved gently inside her. "Forever..." he said softly, eyes fixed to hers.
"...with you," she finished and gave herself up to her husband's embrace.

Lily snuggled closer to the man she loved. She was sitting between Sebastian's legs on the seat before his keyboard, his chest pressed close and warm against her back, his arms around her as he played his music. Every now and then he would nuzzle her hair, laying a gentle kiss on her cheek, just the simple feel of his head near hers, his breath soft in her ear, filling her with so much happiness she felt sure she would burst. They had been like this for the past hour, both starting out anxious at the thought of their impending bachelor and bachelorette parties and now completely at peace in each other's company.
An alarm started sounding and Lily felt Sebastian's body stiffen before he reached to turn it off. He sighed heavily and she could feel his spirit falling as though it were a tangible presence in the room. She bit her bottom lip as his arms came loosely back around her, fingers running half-heartedly over the keys, knowing that he didn't want to let go of her, didn't want to get up from this spot…
She twisted in her seat a little, looked up at him.
"Sebby… let's not go."
"What…?" His fingers hesitated in their movements.
"Let's not go!" she said more fervently. "I know you don't want to go any more than I do…" she tilted her head, mouth trembling slightly. "I know they'll be disappointed… but Seb… you're the only one I want to spend this night with."
He stopped playing, laid his hands flat on the keys.
"You're right." He closed his eyes, then let out a little laugh and opened them again. "Ah, you're right. I do appreciate my friends… I do… but sometimes…"
He looked down at her and smiled fondly…
"…sometimes I feel like you're the only person I need in my life."
His eyes were so tender…
"The truth is…"
He bent his head…
"…the only time I feel truly content is when I'm with you."
…let his lips touch hers.
"Stay with me tonight, Seb," she sighed into his mouth.
"I will, baby," he wrapped his arms around her and she melted into his embrace as their kiss grew long and deep.
Tumblr media
"Hands up everyone who knew they wouldn't come!" Sam laughed good naturedly as he handed out drinks to all the partygoers.
A sea of hands shot into the air and his laugh grew even louder. He lifted his glass high. "This party was always just for us folks! Let's raise a toast to Pelican Town's most devoted couple and their wedding tomorrow!"
Glasses clinked together. "To Seb & Lily!"
More laughter ensued as the night peeked quietly in and somewhere in a peaceful farmhouse the gentle sound of piano music filled the air once more.

A Sweet Harvest Gift
Sebastian smiled as he watched Lily arrange their festival display. Their wedding was only a week away now, they'd scheduled it so that the rush of harvest would be over and they'd be free to relax and enjoy it. He tried to imagine how it would feel to be her husband. Warmth spread through him at the thought of it and at the sight of her, dressed so simply in jeans and a soft rust coloured sweater, strands of dark auburn hair waving around her face in the crisp October air.
She was so beautiful, even while she was working. He couldn't help himself, he moved behind her, slipped his arms around her waist and laid a soft kiss on the curve of her neck. He heard her sigh and then she stopped her work and leaned back against him. He could feel the tension in her body and pulled her closer, happy beyond all belief when she softened a little in his arms. He wondered if he would ever get tired of holding her, of knowing that his touch could have that effect on her.
"Are you okay, baby?" he asked. He knew she had been feeling down since the news about her mother and he also knew how nervous she got at festivals. Truth be told, he'd wanted them both to stay home today but Lily had wanted to attend and he knew better than to try to talk her out of it. Showing the village the fruits of her labours was important to her, she wanted everyone to see just how well her grandpa's farm was flourishing under her care.
"I'm all right, Sebby," she folded her arms over his. "I just… I wish my mom was coming to the wedding, that's all. I thought she might go against him just this once. I so badly wanted her to see the farm, too… but… well…" her head dropped slightly.
"I know. I wish she was coming too but we both know how your dad is. It's hard for her to leave."
She sighed more heavily and his heart ached for her. Before she moved to Pelican Town Lily's life had been full of abusive relationships. Fortunately, she had been able to escape them. Her mother had not been so lucky. Still locked in a life with her alcoholic husband, ruled by a mixture of fear and learned apathy, Lily had known it was too much to expect for her to break away to attend the wedding but she had been unable to stop herself from hoping anyway.
"Oh my," a sweet, quavering voice interrupted their concerns and they both looked up to see Evelyn approaching their stall, tapping her walking stick in front of her. "How nice it is to see young people in love!"
The tiny old woman beamed up at them from beneath her fruit-bedecked autumn hat. "Good morning Lily and Sebastian, I just came to see your display and to tell you how much George and I are looking forward to your wedding. It's been so long since we had a new marriage to celebrate in town!" She waggled her cane amiably in Lily's direction. "My my, just look how pretty you are, you'll make such a beautiful bride! How happy your grandpa would have been to see it! Why, I remember when you were just a little tot come to visit his farm and now look at you, all grown up, taking over the very same land, about to be wed, and to such a handsome young man to boot!"
"Thank you so much, Evelyn," Lily smiled at her enthusiasm. "I like to think gramps would have been happy too."
"Oh he would, he would. George and I often say how proud he would be of you. You've already done so much since you arrived here. Now, did you plant those rose bushes I gave you for your engagement gift?"
"Oh yes, they're already centre place in our flower garden."
"You didn't forget to give them plenty of mulch, did you now?"
"They're all tucked in," Lily laughed.
"Good, good," Evelyn joined her in her laughter.
Sebastian caught sight of his mother frantically waving at him from over near her stall and dropped his mouth to whisper into Lily's ear.
"Judging from the fit my mom's having over there I think she wants my help, will you be okay without me for a while?"
She flashed him a bright little smile. "Of course, Sebby. I'll be fine."
"You're sure?" He didn't feel entirely convinced. Besides which, he could see Marnie, Shane and Jas approaching and really didn't want to leave her to deal with so many people on her own when she was already feeling so fragile.
His mom gestured more violently and he grimaced, torn between responsibilities.
"Really, I'll be fine. Your mom deserves a little help after ferrying all my stuff here in her truck!"
"All right. Evelyn, I'm sorry, my mom needs me." The old woman smiled indulgently at them as he turned to Lily, slipped his arms around her and pulled her close. "I won't be long. Don't overdo things. If you need me, for anything at all, just come and get me, okay?" He bent his head and kissed her gently, then, on hearing her sweet little whimper, kissed her again. "Ah, it's so hard to put you down!"
Lily smiled and brushed her fingers fondly through his hair. "You'd better go before I change my mind," she whispered, lips still grazing his.
He huffed out a soft little laugh, stroked her face and kissed her one final time before reluctantly letting her go. He smiled his greetings to the ranchers who had just arrived and hurried over to where his mom and Demetrius were busy arranging their own stall, desperately wanting to be done as soon as possible so he could be back with his Lily once more.
Tumblr media
"Oh, thank Yoba you saw me, Sebby," his mom drooped with relief when she saw him approaching. "I'm so glad you're done at Lily's display, we could really use the help over here!"
"Well, Robin," Demetrius teetered on a chair as he struggled with the stall's banner, "you simply had to bring half your workshop with you! What did you expect?"
"I need as many new customers as I can get," Robin pouted up at him. "And it was so hard to decide what to bring."
"You didn't need to bring all of it!"
"Not all of it, you said half!"
Sebastian rolled his eyes as his parents continued their bickering and started lifting various pieces of his mother's hand crafted furniture off the back of her truck. "Where do you want this?" he asked, hefting a carefully carved shelf.
"Oh, put it on the left hand side, I'm trying to set up a little faux living room over there."
"Okay." He wondered where Maru was as he continued ferrying piece after piece into place. He wished he had her talent for always managing to be elsewhere whenever there was any heavy lifting to be done. He swallowed his complaints as usual, knowing that Demetrius would have an excuse ready for her.
"How's Lily doing?" his mom asked as she busily pinned some price charts to the front of her stall. "She seemed a little upset on the way over here. Is something wrong?"
Sebastian frowned and looked over at Lily who was now doing her best to maintain a cheery conversation with Marnie and Shane while carefully putting back into place all the things Jas kept taking from her stall.
"Yes, it is," he said, still watching her, wondering how she managed to stay so sweet and patient despite her anxiety. "She really wanted her mom to be here for the wedding but she's not going to be able to make it."
Robin looked over at him, eyebrows raised. "Well that's a shame, no mother should miss her daughter's wedding. Why can't she come?"
He tore his gaze away from his love and turned back to his mom. "Ah, it's complicated. You know how Lily's father is…"
"Yes, I think I remember you mentioning it a few weeks ago…" Robin let out a frustrated cry and dragged Demetrius off his chair. "Dear, you're hanging it back to front! Ah, if you want something doing right, do it yourself!"
Sebastian frowned, was this really that much more important than what he was talking about?
"Oh, I'm sorry, Sebby," his mother said distractedly as she climbed up onto the chair and started reeling in the misaligned banner. "Try not to worry about it too much, I'm sure it'll sort itself out somehow."
Sebastian's frown deepened. He was used to being brushed off but he'd honestly thought his family had been changing for the better lately. "Well," he said hesitantly, "if you don't need me anymore, I'll get back to Lily."
"Yes, yes," his mom waved a vague hand in his direction. "We can manage now, thanks for your help."
"Okay then…" Sebastian started to make his way back towards Lily's stall, unable to see her at the moment due to the bustle of people now milling around as the festival began to take off. He felt a little deflated after his conversation with his mom and, seeing Sam standing in line at the fortune teller's tent, called out a greeting, hoping a little friendly interaction would make him feel better.
"Yo dude!" Sam saluted him. "Did you know Abby's back from Zuzu? I think she's over by the displays now."
Sebastian felt a jolt of alarm run through him. She wasn't looking for Lily was she?
"Don't worry," Sam caught his expression. "She seems much better now. I think the move to the city's done her some good."
"I'll head over that way." For some reason he didn't feel reassured by those comments. His parents had done a real number on him. Crazy how something so seemingly inconsequential could change your mood so quickly. "I'll catch you later, okay?"
"No problem!"
Sebastian pushed his way through the growing crowds wondering why the hell so many people were here for a small town harvest festival. Dammit, they were everywhere! Where was Lily? And, more to the point, where was Abigail?
Tumblr media
"Hi, Lily."
Lily jumped and turned to find Abigail standing next to her stall. The goth girl looked a little bashful and seemed to be struggling for something else to say. For some reason Lily didn't feel quite so intimidated by her as she normally did and tried to find a way to lighten the mood a little.
"Hi Abby, it's good to see you back in town! What do you think to the displays? I think your dad's probably going to win again, I tried my hardest but…"
"Oh, yours is good too," Abigail rushed her words and then blushed. "I mean… your pumpkin is awesome, I've never seen one that big before!"
"You think so?" Lily smiled, it was nice to actually talk to the girl without her usual resentful attitude spoiling things. "Would you like it after the festival is over? Your mom says you're really good at carving them, I'd love to see what you'd make of it."
"Oh…" Abigail twirled her hair around her finger and looked down at the ground. "Ah… dammit… Sam is always right." She looked up again. "Lily," more hair twirling. "I want to apologise… for being such a bitch when you first moved here. I was just jealous and I shouldn't have been. I should have been happy for you and Seb. Sam has told me a lot about you, that you were really nice and if I gave you a chance I'd like you… and… well… I'd like that chance, to get to know you I mean…"
"I'd like that too."
"You would?" Abigail looked surprised.
"Of course, I never wanted to be on bad terms with you, you're one of Seb's friends after all."
"He still wants to be friends with me?"
"He does when you're being reasonable like this."
They both turned to see Seb approaching. Lily looked up at him thankfully as he moved behind her and put his arms around her again. Even though he'd only been away a short time, she'd missed him. He'd looked a little worried as he'd approached them but she was relieved to see the furrow in his brow soften slightly when he saw Abigail all smiles. He still seemed a little uneasy though and she made a mental note to ask him what was wrong as soon as they had a minute alone.
"It's nice to see you, Abby," he said. "It looks like Sam was right, the city has done you some good. What have you been up to?"
"Oh, nothing much, y'know, started Uni, bought my first car, started dating a really cute guy."
"Ah, is that why you're so chill now, you finally getting some?"
"Fuck you!" Abigail punched him on the arm and he laughed. "It's good to see you, too, you asshole," she said. "Both of you. And thanks for the wedding invite…" she looked down, "…that really meant a lot to me. Hey, why don't I treat you both to getting your fortune told?" She looked up again with a grin on her face. "See what a great married life you've got ahead of you?"
Seb looked down at Lily. "What do you think, baby? I don't know if I really believe in all that stuff but…"
"She's really accurate!" Sam chose that moment to arrive by their side, massive pizza box open in one hand. "She just told me I'd have a lucky find and I saw this stall selling giant pizzas not five minutes later!"
"That's probably not what she had in mind, you dork!" Abigail laughed.
"Does that mean you don't want a slice?"
"I didn't say that!"
"Go ahead," Sam grinned as Abigail snatched a piece. He offered the box to Seb and Lily. "There's enough for everyone, I like to share my good fortune!"
He waved a hand at Welwick's tent as they helped themselves.
"Come on, let's head over there. I'd love to know what's in store for my best friend and his wife to be!"
Tumblr media
Sebastian felt some of his worries lifting as they approached the bright red tent. Colourful flags snapped from its peak and the sounds of his friends laughing along with Lily eased his mind. Yoba knew, it had taken a long time for Abby to come around but it seemed that finally he could have his full set of friends back again. He looked at the smiles on their faces and remembered he hadn't told Lily about the weird little conversation with his mom yet. Ah well, there would be time for that later. He was probably just being over sensitive. For now he was just going to try and enjoy himself.
"Go on you two," Abigail was bouncing slightly as she gave them their tickets. "Go ahead and see what she says but you have to promise not to tell me afterwards, no matter how much I might ask, or it won't come true!"
Sebastian took Lily's hand. "You ready for this, sweetheart? Wanna see what weird pyrotechnics she's got set up?"
"I think so," she said with a wry smile. "Though I don't think we can possibly get as lucky as Sam!"
"You know, I think I'm gonna go get another one," Sam looked thoughtful. "Anyone fancy pepperoni this time?"
"Just ignore him," Abby rolled her eyes and flapped her hands at them, urging them into the tent. "Go on, get in there!"
They both laughed and entered the tent. It was much darker inside than out and for a moment Sebastian felt completely disorientated, then his eyes adjusted and he saw a small table with a crystal ball on top and the hooded figure of the prophet Welwick sitting behind it.
"Please sit down," her voice was soft and sweet, a curious contrast to her shaded face. There was only one empty seat in the tent and he sat down on it and pulled Lily gently into his lap, trying to quell his sudden jitters in the mysterious atmosphere.
"I usually wouldn't tell a joint fortune," she continued, " but I sense something different about the two of you so I shall make an exception in this case. Please, I would like you both to concentrate on the crystal in front of you, try to let your minds relax and I will read what unfolds…"
Lily let out a little sigh and he held her closer, the air in the tent seemed to condense around them and he could have sworn he heard the sound of leaves rustling in the distance.
"Ah," Welwick lifted her hand and placed it on the ball. "How lovely, such beautiful colours I see right now, it seems I was right to read you jointly!"
The scent of fruit and flowers drifted through the air and Sebastian couldn't help but look around. Where the hell were all these things coming from?
"The colours are coalescing… I see a rich farm, bursting with life, trees with many fruits hanging from their branches. A beautiful garden full of flowers, the two of you are sitting hand in hand, surrounded by drifting petals, you seem so very happy together."
A soft glow filled the tent and Welwick looked up at the two of them, he could see her face now and her eyes were as expansive as the sky.
"I see this happiness stretching far into the future, like a trail of endless stars. I have never seen a light quite like the one that surrounds the two of you." She stood and extended her hands to both of them. "I would wish you all the luck in the world going forward but I know you will not need it. You already have all that you need in each other."
Seb raised himself and Lily to their feet, wondering why the hell he was shaking so much. He took Welwick's left hand at the same time that Lily took the right and the prophet let out a soft laugh at their touch.
"You two have been the highlight of my day. I have one more thing to tell you. A wonderful surprise awaits you outside my tent. Please go forth and give thanks to your friends and family for their sweet gift."
Seb and Lily exchanged a confused glance before turning and leaving the tent.
Tumblr media
"What on earth could she have meant?" Lily asked and then her voice trailed off into a little gasp at the sight that greeted her eyes.
"Hello darling," her mother smiled and held out her arms. Lily's hand flew to her mouth, a disbelieving sob tore from her lips and then she flung herself into her mother's embrace crying so hard she could barely see.
Sebastian rocked on his heels and turned to see his family, Sam and Abigail all grinning widely at him.
"You really think we're that heartless?" his mom laughed delightedly, even Demetrius smiling at the reunited couple. "Maru went to pick her up this morning. Lily's mother is going to be staying with us for a while now… until she can make a new start, that is."
"Mom?" Lily looked into her mother's eyes. "Is it true?"
"It is," her mother took out a hanky and started mopping her face. "I thought it was time for me to be as brave as my daughter. I'm so sorry about everything, love."
"Oh mom!" Lily started to cry again and Sebastian stepped forwards to take her into his arms.
'Thank you,' he mouthed at everyone.
"You're welcome," Robin said softly.
Sebastian laid his cheek on the top of Lily's head and cradled her gently as she turned to him and sobbed into his chest, her mother laying a tentative hand on her back at the same time.
"It's all going to be okay, Lily," they said as one, smiling in surprise as they echoed each other's words.
Sebastian closed his eyes and and offered up his gratitude for his friends and family. Thanks to them their wedding day would be more perfect than ever.

The Happiest Man Alive
A Stardew Valley ficlet about the relationship between Sebastian and my farmer, Lily. I'm posting this simply because I really need to cheer myself up right now and I adore writing indulgent scenes about sweet little kisses! Timeline-wise this comes after Chapter Five of My Everlasting Light.
Synopsis: The day after declaring their love for each other Seb & Lily share a sweet kiss by the lake
Cast: Original Female Character, Sebastian
Contents: Newly Established Relationship, Love, Romance, Kissing, Fluff
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
A gentle breeze rustled through the leaves of the tree beneath which they sat. The full moon hovered low in the night sky and the silvered waters of the nearby lake rippled musically against the shore.
Sebastian was by her side and yesterday they had kissed for the first time ever. Had finally confessed their love to each other. Even now, Lily could still hardly believe it, couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the closeness of the man she had wanted for so long. Their shoulders, arms and legs touched softly together as they stared out over the lake in companionable silence and despite the beauty of their surroundings all she could concentrate on was every single place their bodies met, every single thrill that ran through her at the feel of him next to her.
She looked up at his profile and caught her breath at how handsome he was, whimpered helplessly when he turned his head to return her gaze.
Oh Yoba. His eyes. They were beautiful… so deep and dark, she could lose herself forever in them. His skin glowed in the moonlight, ebony hair waving around the perfect lines of his face, mouth curving into a sweet little smile as he looked down at her.
How she wanted to feel that mouth on hers, wanted to feel the warmth of him, wanted his arms to slide around her and pull her against his chest, wanted it so bad she wondered if he could see it in her eyes, if he could hear how fast her heart was beating.
He lifted his hand and trailed his fingers gently across her cheek.
"Hey," he said softly, smile growing sweeter.
"Hey..." she trembled, utterly mesmerised as he leant closer.
"You know what?" he whispered, lips hovering near hers.
"What…?" she couldn't breathe, couldn't think...
He traced the line of her jaw, tilted her chin. "I almost forgot…" his lips brushed hers, "…that now I can kiss you whenever I want."
He kissed her.
So gentle, so tender.
It made her ache inside.
He pulled back, eyes soft with love, caressed her face… "and that makes me the happiest man alive."
"Oh Seb," she sobbed, completely undone, and reached for him with all her heart.
"Lily…" he murmured and took her in his arms, kissed her again, deep, long and yearning, drawing her close, giving her everything she could ever need, the two of them a perfect circle of love, unending in the gentle cradle of the night.
