ah yes our jiants!! bbelt sources an entire authentic boat captain's uniform but at the last minute goes hey...don't i have this old onesie thing...and ends up putting it all together as a boat captain giraffe :DD

gaus goes as the canadian flag! he's the stripes and his kids are maple leaves :))

ok first of all SEAN MANAEA STILL HAS ALL OF HIS BIG BEAUTIFUL HAIR so jot that down

second of all he can never let a good bit go so he's all wrapped up in a bedsheet toga as neptune and he got the a's club manager to drive the trident over the bridge for him too. not only that but he has a whole entourage of sea animals; john brebbia is an excessively bearded clownfish!

the twins are the front and back ends of a horse. which twin is which half you ask? well you'll have to look into that gift horse's mouth yourself...

wilmer shows up head-to-toe in gucci-branded running gear. somehow, SOMEHOW, his hair is perfect the entire way from the bay to the breakers 😎

buster digs out his old milkmaid dress and wig and orders a breastplate to fill that old thing out; he ALSO crops the skirt a lot (well, he does the cutting and kristen fixes the hem) so that he can run without getting tangled up.

favorite book you read in the last year? 2. favorite dish from your family's culture? 3. favorite babygirl of the mlb?

(1) oh no. i just went into my reading spreadsheet and sorted by rating and there are TWENTY-EIGHT books that have a 5 (on a scale of 1-5). but you have asked and i must answer, so. this book blew me away by how much it said about human connection in so few words and by how startlingly funny it was and by how absolutely fucking gorgeous the illustrations are; this book is in by will mcphail!

(2) mmm i love a very simple steamed fish the way my mom does it: soy sauce, sliced ginger, handful of scallions, sometimes 榨菜 (pickled veggie stem). get a white-fleshed fish, like a bass, as fresh as possible for MAXIMUM TENDERNESS and there is no bit more tender than the cheeks, which you must always put into the bowl of the one you love.

(3) thank you for the excuse to talk about joey! sadly there's been a lot less content this year because (1) he escaped the horrors of the new york media market and (2) hanser alberto isn't around to instagram boyfriend him, but i've accepted that the dearth of noise about him is for the better. he's babygirl because he went from being the It Girl of the 2021 trade deadline to pathetic puppydog kicked to the curb by new york to tenderly nursed back to rude health by hanser alberto! most significantly, he is babygirl because he's a catholic school boy who went tits out and proud for dodgers dress-up day '22 :))))))))

We found love in a hopeless place - hanser alberto/joey gallo, los angeles dodgers, circa 2022...joey gallo touched down in lax ready for a new start and who should be waiting at the gate with a sign and balloons BUT HIS DOUBLE/TRIPLE A BOYFRIEND (1). who immediately intuits that his ptsd (courtesy of all those lovely, verbally affirmative yankees fans, 2) needs to be treated with the utmost care (read: sexual objectification, 3 4).

Hot Stove SZN - ryan walker and tristan beck wheedle sean manaea into chaperoning them on a booze cruise to mexico (6)! they have been cozying up to him in the bullpen ALL season because gosh, he's so big and nice and funny and double gosh, his sweeper makes them FEEL THINGS. they've been roommates for the last two years in AAA, so it made sense to share a little walk-up above a taqueria, but sharing sean? it takes them them a while to get to that, and a little longer after that, after sean's been out on one date with each of them and asks when they're going to take him out on a date TOGETHER. so they try that. a bunch of times :))))) and when the season ends early for all of them, they set sail into the sunset!

they have a spectacular time and engage in many daydrunk antics, but on their last night before they put into port, sean tells them he's not re-signing with the giants. and he wants to thank them for being his friends and that he will treasure all the good times they've had together and not to be strangers when their teams play against each other in the future. ryan and tristan are DEVASTATED. they carry their suitcases up the stairs, shoulders and bucket hats drooping, and lay down on the nice rug sean had delivered after the third date. they lay there until the sun sets (at 5 pm because it's october now lmao) and the streetlights turn on, and they suddenly say, "hey are you hungry" "are we still dating" and turn on their sides to look at each other like :0 and :0. but then they close their mouths and close the distance between their mouths and realize that they've still got each other and who else could understand the other better now? tender little makeout sesh on the floor and then someone's stomach rumbles (tristan) and they walk downstairs, HOLDING HANDS, and walk into the taqueria, HOLDING HANDS, and order burritos, HOLDING HANDS. the old men who are always sitting at the corner table nod and smile at each other behind their newspapers.

Hall of Fame - BUMBUSTER!! they are actually going through a difficult period of separation right now because buster went in for that ownership stake, which could've been fine because plenty of sports team owners stay hands-off and prioritize their other investments, but he's buster, so he's GOTTA be IN there, even though he promised bum after they retired, he'd let him teach him how to ride and rope and they'd see if they were up to starting a herd out in north carolina. (phew, run-on sentence!) building a herd could literally refer to a herd of cattle or, euphemistically, maybe a friend of a family friend knows a girl who's in trouble and, well, it's something they've been talking about for almost their entire careers in baseball, but with their schedules, and then bum signing in arizona, it just wouldn't have been fair to let any kid essentially be 90% raised by a nanny. anyway so when buster flew off to pay court to shohei ohtani, bum left him a voice message: don't bother coming back, you BASTARD, unless you want to be met on the porch (that you and i built!) with a shotgun.

Hot Stove SZN - casey schmitt/jd davis/michael conforto...he is their young man!! jd's had a thing for michael since they were both on the mets, but then michael missed a season, and jd got traded, and then michael came and signed with the giants and jd thought...maybe. maybe. and then michael showed up for spring training, as beautiful and steady as he always was, and jd thought, fuck it who knows how long we've got before we're traded away, maybe we can try drinks. it's too easy to be around each other, but what's the point of fighting it? farhan will make his moves when he does, and they'll keep trying a different napa vintage with dinner every night.

casey comes up, and they definitely share a little chuckle as he pinballs around the clubhouse. he does solicit hitting tips from each of them, but is disheartened that they don't so much as blink when he pouts. casey definitely asks blake about them, and blake is like: casey, they live together. casey...doesn't know what that means. blake tries again: casey, they cook dinner together. casey: *suprised pikachu face* that...means he needs to COMPLETELY change up his approach! blake facepalms because that is NOT what he meant and decides he'd better go get a real vet to head this off at the pass.

but it's too late. casey has already finagled a dinner invite to the conforto-davis household, where, despite his best intentions, he gets wine-drunk way too fast and falls asleep in his dessert. michael and jd look at each other over the rims of their glasses and rock paper scissor for who washes the dishes and who puts him to bed in the guest bedroom. casey wakes up for breakfast, is embarrassed for exactly half a minute, remembers who he is, makes eye contact with jd, sits himself down in michael's lap and steals his waffle. jd, who is making more waffles, closes the waffle iron on the sleeve of his shirt. michael sloshes his coffee onto casey's pants and well, now he has to go lend casey a pair of pants. he very nearly loses his composure when casey shucks his pants in their bedroom, and then michael does lose his composure for real when jd follows them in and closes the door behind him. it definitely takes at least two sets of hands to handle casey's manic pixie dream girl-ness (2) (3).

(1) i don't really care about the first experience actually lol. i'll finish a book and already be thinking about how much more i'll catch on the next read/watch! sorry, this doesn't answer the question, but it's how i feel :))

catching: chris stewart (this is solely based off his battery chemistry with timmy ok) and buster posey (for everyone else) and austin wynns (for ME)

infield: hanser alberto (joey's boyfriend!!), ha seong kim (beauty & grace!), matt chapman (slapping his bald head), joey votto

(1) casey schmitt is absolutely the darling of the baby giants and it's not even close! he's being positioned to be the new brandon crawford, which didn't work out great for joey bart as future franchise cornerstone, but casey has been handling it quite gracefully. he's that kind of blithe southern california charming that is self-assured and gratifyingly earnest, which craw thought he would be immune to, because hey, he's from pleasanton and a ucla alum, but. well. apparently he is not, even though this kid's seduction tactics just boil down to puppy humping him in the batting cages!!

(2) i started rollerblading this summer and as soon as i get all my assignments and projects wrangled i will be out and about terrorizing campus!

(3) pastrami, lettuce, coleslaw, tomato, crumbled potato chips, and a touch of mayo on a nicely toasted dutch crunch! plus many, many pickles on the side :D

Pregame chess - ok so this 2023 season, one of the beat writers wrote this scathing article about the giants' clubhouse culture; specifically, the lack of a "winning mentality." he called out joc pederson for playing "marathon games of Pusoy (1)," and i think that logan webb is the guy who would get so so worked up about joc's unseriousness. webby is NOT good at keeping things in, and joc would absolutely pick up on it and get REAL ostentatious about lounging around dealing cards, and reminding webby that he's been in the bigs for TWICE as long as he has, and that he's got TWO world series rings already, and he got there by keeping his butt nice and unclenched, so maybe, kid, you could try THAT.
