FFxivWrite: Day twenty 1.......Solution!
‘We’ll have a lot of finny fuuuuuun!
Iiiiiiits stormbloood and cherrypit doesnt know how to swim!!!!!  but there are other people who dont know either so its okay!!!!!   also coco wears a pool floatie  and cherrypit catches a friendly shark
Cherrypit reached out his hand beyond the wall of water and watched as the sand in his hand disappeared before his eyes again. It was like a magic trick! A really scary magic trick!
Because if he wasn’t careful he might turn into sand and wash away! At least, that’s what Andres had told him when Cherrypit’s sand castle and people he built had washed away.
Next thing he knew Andres was being buried on the beach. He was kind of digging it though, no pun intended. Thankfully he was dug out by the time they all needed to venture out in search of the Kojin.
Cherrypit couldn’t believe his eyes when they finally got there!
Everything looked so amazing! He could hardly believe that they were actually underwater! It made all the traveling here worth it! It was hard to keep Cherrypit focused and in one place at this point. He was practically trying to climb on everything.
He calmed down eventually but once he heard that they would be given a blessing to breathe underwater he got excited all over again.
“Swim?! Swim! We’re gonna learn to swim!”
He got significantly less excited when Reese explained that they were only going to get the ability to breathe underwater. It wasn’t going to magically help Cherrypit learn to swim, he would still have to learn. Still really cool though.
“Pooie!” Cherrypit pouted and stomped away from the group to sit in a little corner to play with the little crabs in the sand. He was so distracted by the crabs inside the pockets of water that, before he knew it, it was time to go.
———————————–
Breathing underwater wasn’t as fun as Cherrypit thought it would be.
On the bright side, there were other people beside him that couldn’t swim. So Cherrypit wasn’t alone in trudging along the seafloor. Vertical looked straight ahead watching as the others swam past them. All of them except for Lunya, who decided to stay behind not only to look after Cherrypit but also Coco, who also couldn’t swim.
“Waa….” Coco cried, he resembled a balloon floating away in the wind. Except instead of the wind it was the tide and he was being held from drifting off by Lunya grabbing onto his leg.
Once they all arrived at Sui-no-Sato Cherrypit was tasked with the important job of collecting sea shells. He’d been doing exactly that since they first got to the Ruby Sea so he didn’t mind being given that job. It also made sure that he stayed in one place. Though curiosity would probably get the better of him and he would wind up following someone else anyway.
Which is probably why B’ig Nunh had been left to take care of him.
Cherrypit picked up a smooth dark stone from the ground and looked back at B’ig, he was leaning against a stone wall. Vertical was really happy that he came back but B’ig didn’t look happy to be here. Actually, Cherrypit had no idea how B’ig Nunh was feeling, since his face was being covered up by a helmet.
It was weird, Cherrypit wouldn’t even have been able to tell that it was B’ig if no one had told him. He hadn’t even said hi to him once.
Oh well.
Cherrypit picked up a shell from the ground and put it in his pocket. He’d been picking up all sorts of things from the ground ever since they all first set foot in Kugane. He couldn’t wait to show them all the Bebe when she came back and he could be back in his own body.
But first thing was first…
How was he going to make it back to the surface if he didn’t know how to swim?!
If the three of them kept walking on the surface of the ocean like they did on the way here, how were they going to go up?! He didn’t want to live in the ocean!! He wanted to go with his friends!! Even worse was that his friends were going to separate!! Coco and Vertical would be so sad!!
Cherrypit had to find a way to learn to swim and teach Vertical and Coco too!
———————————–
Cherrypit’s first idea had been to tie balloons onto all three of them so they would simply float up to the surface. He excitedly ran over to B’ig Nunh to ask him if he could come with him to ask the people around if they had any balloons they could give him.
B’ig Nunh agreed with a silent nod and followed behind Cherrypit as he went around to ask everyone if they had some balloons he could borrow.
He received the same answer from all of them. “No.”
Disappointed, Cherrypit fell back into the sand beneath him. That was one plan down but surely he could come up with something else.
Now that he thought about it, tying balloons to themselves probably wasn’t the best idea. What if they kept going up even after they got past the water?! They would all float up to the sky!! And Bebe wouldn’t be able to find him up there!
She was really scared of high places!!
———————————–
Cherrypit’s next plan was to catch a fish and ask it how it swam.
That turned out to be much harder than he anticipated. Cherrypit considered himself an expert fish catcher. He always handled the fishing rod whenever he and Babycorn went fishing since she was terrified of a fish jumping out and attacking her.
Which to her credit, had happened more than once.
Unfortunately, fish, as it turned out, were much harder to catch without a fishing rod. They were especially harder to catch when he was underwater with them. The fish seemed a lot faster and Cherrypit seemed a lot slower. Cherrypit screamed a very loud swear out loud but because he was walking around in the ocean no one but the fish heard him.
Frustrated, he decided to finally admit defeat and walk back.
That was until, he spotted something in the corner of his eye.
“Ah-ha!” That would be perfect!
———————————–
While everyone else went ahead Vertical, Lunya and Coco made their way back to where they left B’ig and Cherrypit. No one really knew what to expect to see when they came back but seeing Cherrypit (in his sister’s body) hugging a wiggling shark probably wasn’t in the top ten.
“Hiiiii! Lookie! I found a fish!” Cherrypit eagerly lifted the shark a bit for everyone to see. The shark didn’t seem to be in too much distress, it was just really confused what it was suddenly doing here. “We can swim now!”
“CHERRYYY! PUT THAT DOWN!” Lunya ran over and grabbed the shark from Cherrypit’s hands. It really wasn’t that much of a hassle to take it from him. Lunya took it and gently threw it back into the ocean. “Bye byeee!” Cherrypit waved at the shark as it swam away. Apparently Cherrypit had forgotten why he’d even grabbed the shark in the first place.
“Cherry? What were you doing with a shark?!” Coco asked in a panic.
“It was gonna show me to swim!” Cherrypit still hadn’t realized that the shark had swam far away at this point. “So we can swim up!” he bounced and pointed straight up to bring across his point.
Lunya and Coco followed to where he was pointing and then looked at each other. “I thought you told Cherrypit we were going to teleport back?” Lunya asked. She distinctly remembered telling Coco that when they were passing by some coral.
“I did!” In Coco’s defense, he had told Cherrypit. Unfortunately Cherrypit had been distracted by a school of fish swimming by, because of that the info never reached him. Instead the info had been washed away…along with the other fish.
Walking here was enough of a hassle that everyone agreed that it would be easier to teleport back. Since Vertical couldn’t use her aether she was going to just hitch a ride with B’ig and Lunya was going to take both Coco and Cherrypit.
“No swimming?”
“No swimming!” Coco cheered. He didn’t want to take any chances against the ocean currents again. Or getting his hair mistaken for something that fish liked to live in!
Apparently!
———————————–
“This is a bad idea!” Coco stood on the edge of the pool, pool floatie around his waist and arm floaties on his arms. Everything about this screamed bad idea! It was early in the morning so the water was probably cold! Not to mention he’d just had a snack earlier so he was probably going to get a cramp if he got in the water!
“Come on! Don’t you wanna have fun with Cherry and Vertical?” Lunya sat on the edge of the pool and pointed to where Cherrypit and Vertical were swimming.
Cherry was splashing around in his own pool floatie, trying to kick himself around the pool. Meanwhile Vertical was standing completely still in the shallow end of the pool. She was wearing her own arm floaties and swimming goggles.
“How’s the water Vertty?” Lunya asked, hoping her answer might help convince Coco to get in.
Vertical flashed her a thumbs up and sat down in the water. Her head was still above water.
“See?” Lunya turned back to Coco, “You’ll be fine! You don’t have to learn how to swim right away. Think of it as…getting acclimated to the water!” Both literally and figuratively! “Just jump in! You’ll be in the water before you know it!”
Cherrypit swam closer to where Coco was standing. It was at times like this he wished he could just stretch his arms like his actual body could. It would have been really fun to simply grab Coco and dunk him in the water. It was plainly evident in his playful grin that he was thinking that.
“Cherry! No pushing Coco in the pool!” Lunya reminded him. “He has to get in on his own!” Besides, if anyone was pushing him in, it was going to be Lunya. Once enough time had passed.
Cherrypit stuck his tongue out and looked straight up at Coco, pulling on the ribbon tied around his sister’s neck. “Were it not for the laws of this pool you would be submerged at this very moment.”
Coco gripped his pool floatie. “What.”
Then Cherrypit giggled and splashed away.
