Wow! Some More Yasammy Headcanons

Because y'all deserve it ✨

Yaz and Sammy are hopeless romantics. They love doing things for each other to show how much they care. Yaz likes to surprise Sammy with a bouquet of her favorite flowers for no other reason than "a pretty girl should have some pretty flowers." Sometimes she'll even add a cute little drawing to it because she knows it never fails to make her girlfriend smile. Sammy likes to surprise Yaz with random gifts she knows she will use like new sketchbooks, new drawing pencils, and compression running socks, because 1) she loves her and likes to see her girlfriend happy; and 2) the look Yaz gives Sammy when she opens her gifts make her heart feel all warm and gooey.

When they moved in together, Sammy started to leave love-filled sticky notes in places she knew Yaz would find them. "You are so beautiful!!" (stuck to their bathroom mirror), "You got this baby!" (hidden in Yaz's gym bag), "For my favorite girl" (on an orange Gatorade in their fridge), and "I love you" (waiting on Yaz's pillow in their bedroom). Yaz adores and collects every single note.

Yaz insisted that she wanted to learn how to lasso so she and Sammy could share a hobby. But holy hell she's terrible at it. Like so bad at it. The first time Yaz wound up to lasso the training dummy, she missed so badly that she ended up knocking over Sammy's dad's grill instead. Yaz was mortified and Sammy almost had to be hospitalized for laughing so hard. It took a lot of coaxing and a ton of kisses for Yaz to pick up lassoing again. And even though she's still not the greatest at it, it's one of her favorite activities they do as a couple.

Yaz and Sammy had their first official date a month after they were rescued. They wanted to have it much sooner, but between all the media outlets wanting to cover their survival story, the countless visits to the doctor's office, the six months worth of homework they needed to catch up on, and adjusting to their lives back home...the girls just couldn't find the time.

But once things started to go back to normal, Yaz and Sammy immediately made plans for their first date. A few FaceTime calls and one plane ticket later had Yaz flying down to Texas to spend the weekend with Sammy.

They totally had one of those emotional airport reunions where the second they saw each other nothing else mattered but them. With luggage in hand, Yaz raced through the crowd and made a beeline towards her girlfriend. Sammy excitedly caught Yaz in her arms and held her tightly as they twirled in front of baggage claim. Sneaking kisses and murmuring "I missed you" and "I'm so happy you're here" over and over again.

After much thought, the girls decided that they wanted to have a very normal first date. No life-threatening situations. No running for their lives. And especially no dinosaurs. So they decided to go see the newest Esther Stone movie and then have a nice, romantic dinner afterwards.

When the evening came to a close and both girls were nervously standing outside Sammy's front door, Yaz turned to Sammy and pulled her into kiss that left them both breathless. With smiles on their faces and their first official date over, Yaz and Sammy eagerly looked forward to their next date and their future together.

Old Scars And Soft Touches

(Very short. And established yasammy)

Waking up every day after Isla Nublar made Yasmina more and more aware of the scars that littered her body. And as much as she wishes they would disappear and the torment they sentenced her to end, she knows it is impossible, but Sammy eased that pain slightly. Somedays, the two lay awake at night touching each scar, remembering how they got them even if the memories hurt it also helped.

It helped them heal even if it hurt. Healing takes time, and they know what they have been through will haunt them forever.

Okay, I just want to share my thoughts on JWCC s4 and the ships.

So, biases up front, I ship Yasammy, DinoStar, and sometimes JungleNerd. That being said I actually really enjoyed this season!

The only thing I didn't like was the Kenji/Brooklyn relationship they tried to push. I feel like it was really sudden and kinda forced. Unfortunately, I think it probably was the best option available. For the creators at least. Let me explain.

At the beginning of season 4, I think that there were only two ships that had the chemistry to go canon quickly, Yasammy and JungleNerd.

Don't get me wrong, I love DinoStar, and I think they have amazing chemistry together, but they feel like a future-fic best-friends-to-lovers slowburn kinda ship to me. To be completely honest, where they were at the time they had almost no romantic chemistry.

I think Yasammy and JungleNerd really were the best options as far as chemistry goes. Unfortunately for the creators, both of them are queer.

To get a queer ship into a show there has to be someone willing to fight for it, and fight hard. And the creators have to be okay knowing that their show will probably get cancelled afterward too, or at least told to wrap up the story with a shortened amount of seasons (which is what happened to The Owl House)

Yasammy is basically canon. With all their soft looks and tender moments, they're meant to be clearly in love and there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise.

But I'm willing to bet that if we ever get them in canon, it will be in the very last season, when it's too late for the executives to cancel it.

If the writers wanted to include romance in this season, then they couldn't use the two ships with the most romantic chemistry because there wasn't anyone ready to fight like hell (and risk their job) for them to be allowed.

That leaves the straight ships.

Specifically the ones between Brooklynn and the boys. Because Yasammy is head over heels and everyone knows it.

I personally have never even heard of Ben/Brooklynn. I have no idea if that's even a thing. So that narrows it down to Brooklynn/Darius and Brooklynn/Kenji.

Either way the writers would have had to start from scratch building romanic feelings, it was really a coin flip on where they wanted to start from.

They picked Kenjilynn. (Is that the right name? I have no idea.)

Would I have preferred Darilynn? Absolutely, but I can also get why they went with it.

I wish they had just stuck to their guns and continued to avoid romance entirely, instead of trying to implement a story they weren't set up for. But overall, the season was still great, so I won't be complaining too much :)

Camp Cretaceous Countdown: Favorite Ship

Sammy x Yasmina

Country Roads, Sammina, Yasammy, A Shell For Two...whatever you call it, this one’s my favorite. It’s also the only ship that I currently see as a legitimate one--sorry, ya Wild City Slickers, but that one’s still just another Keilance ship (and as much as I love the Dino Nerd and the Superstar, they’re also kids and I don’t see any romantic resolutions to that in this show).  This isn’t to say that I don’t or won’t ship them, of course...but this one?

This ship?

This one is legitimate, not just from a “what the fans want” standpoint, but from a storytelling standpoint. I had a moment of “Oh, I can ship these two” when Sammy first tried to wrap Yasmina in friendship when she tried to be alone, felt the playful joy when Sammy invited herself into Yaz’s Safety Bubble...but when that balcony scene started? That was Legitimate Romantic Framing. A lone, brooding figure gazing off into the rain until a taciturn, mysterious companion walks up to talk to them? I’ll take that every single time.

What followed from there was pure, unfiltered character growth, romantic tension, and drama. The intensity of Yaz’s rage, Sammy’s pining and compliments, the way they kept saving each other’s lives...how could I have not shipped them?

And then Season 2 came along and suddenly those two were reaching Nonverbal Communication Levels. They swapped stories and laughed, they hugged, they supported each other...and once again, they kept saving each other’s lives. 

*gestures* These aren’t even their positive moments together. You can get their smiles and hugs from almost every otther gifset. I’m not just here for their soft, warm, domestic joyful moments...I’m in love with their awkward growth, their angry friction, and their adventures. 

Let’s see where we go in Season 3!

Combing through every single episode of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous for Yasammy moments to write meta analysis about part 2 (parts 1, 3, and 4)

After Yaz breaks her ankle we have this moment of Sammy expressing her gratitude and admiration, Sammy wants to let Yaz know she sees how strong, brave, and deeply caring Yaz is but, as Brooklyn points out, Yaz isn’t in a place to hear her and needs time and space to process her feelings about Sammy’s secret double life as a spy, she goes into self-defense mode and pushes Sammy away again Just as a side note, I find it really interesting how Brooklyn reaches out to Sammy to give her advice about Yaz, Brooklyn is the one who caught Sammy spying and it’s Brooklyn’s phone that Sammy stole and accidentally broke so I think it’s very cool of Brooklyn to step in because she can see that Sammy is hurting over her fallout with Yaz and is in desperate need of a supportive friend Sammy definitely backs off trying to talk to Yaz but continues to show her care and concern in little ways like asking the group if there is another way to get to the dock besides going on foot so Yaz doesn’t hurt herself more, on the monorail when Ben gets carried off by Pteranodons and they assume that he’s dead it hits all of them really hard, Sammy starts to panic and Yaz forgets for a moment that she’s supposed to be mad and instinctively comforts her before remembering all of their circumstances, Sammy can’t help herself when she sees Yaz fall as they’re running for the dock after the group has to abandon the monorail and rushes over to check on her, Yaz is clearly still angry and refuses Sammy’s help, but by the time they actually reach the dock we can see that Yaz has realized she really does need Sammy’s help and support (both physically and for emotionally) and that there are worse things that could happen than Sammy telling some lies for her family’s sake, at this point we can see that Yaz has decided to work on forgiving Sammy and trusting her again because she initiates contact with her by casually placing her elbow on Sammy’s shoulder at the dock This trend of re-establishing their bond continues as the show enters season 2, in which the group is still stuck on the island and has to find the emergency beacon, we can see Yaz and Sammy huddling together for comfort and to keep each other safe when they have to hide behind a fallen tree from some dinosaurs, we also see Yaz lean on Sammy and give a relieved sigh once Darius gives the all-clear and she stays there for a while, when Yaz accidentally brings up Ben we can see that she’s still processing how much his apparent death has affected her and the rest of the group, Yaz is now clinging to Sammy not because she is afraid Sammy will stop liking her or talking to her like she was in season 1 but because she needs the positivity, support, and encouragement that Sammy brings to her life in order to help her through all of the emotional turmoil that being on the island is putting her through Also, Sammy helping Yaz up, helping her walk, and otherwise supporting her in any way she can is just so sweet, I know Sammy is a very positive and helpful person and she does what she can for everyone in the group but she has always gone above and beyond when it comes to Yaz, she even convinces Yaz to stay at camp and rest while she, Brooklyn, and Darius go look for supplies (with such a gentle tone and soft expression that Yaz has no choice but to embrace the love and care that Sammy is putting out there), Yaz clearly wants Sammy to stay with her but I think Sammy realizes that it’s not good for Yaz to only depend on her so she gives Yaz a warm smile before she goes but she still leaves with the others so Yaz can grow and Sammy can contribute to the whole group, this sets up the beginnings of a much healthier dynamic between Yaz and Sammy in which they can have their own lives and friendships outside of each other Yaz has clearly forgiven Sammy at this point as we don’t see any kind of bitterness in their interactions at all and after the group makes their tree fort and they have some time to rest and relax away from the pressures of constantly running from dinosaurs I think Yaz really starts to

process her deeper feelings for Sammy, she wants to spend more time with Sammy and get even closer, we can see how eager she is to join Brooklyn and Sammy on their venture out into the jungle to locate the weird frozen flower patch that Brooklyn stumbled upon a while back, Yaz definitely strikes me as the type of person who has never been in love before so with everything else going on (and with her mind full of much stronger fears of losing the others in the group, especially Sammy, which I will talk about more later in this post series) her feelings are bound to manifest strongly We can see that Yaz is now actively playing that question game with Sammy, getting to know her better, and exchanging witty banter back and forth, obviously Yaz cares about all of the people in the group on some level or she wouldn’t have been so upset when they thought Ben died but notice how she is much more interested in talking to and learning about Sammy than she is in talking to and learning about Brooklyn, however she does try her best to loop Brooklyn into the conversation once Sammy cues her to Can we just take a second to appreciate the silent conversations that Yaz and Sammy have? I’m a sucker for some good non-verbal communication because it means that the characters are very close and feel connected with each other, there’s also the fact that since Yaz wants to be around her again Sammy spends so much time making physical contact with her, touch is clearly one of Sammy’s main love languages Yaz goes to help Sammy when the gun case falls on her only to be stopped by Tiff (who tries to prevent Yaz from running away to get help) and Sammy tackles Tiff to the ground to get her to let go of Yaz, honestly I know that Sammy realizes that Yaz getting free is their best chance of getting the help they need but I think it’s really telling that she went so hard, Yaz is clearly her favorite person on the island and Sammy isn’t about to let Tiff hurt her, I also find it really telling that when Yaz sees Sammy and Darius on the security camera monitors she looks relieved and excited and then we get a set of shots that imply she’s looking just at Sammy, this is followed by such a soft, warm, loving expression from Yaz that it melts my gay heart, and of course she’s incredibly concerned when she sees Tiff and Mitch approaching During their organized stampede, Yaz has to abandon the Jeep and, without hesitation, she leaps from the car into Sammy’s waiting arms, this is a mark of a great amount of character growth for Yaz because she not only trusts Sammy now but literally trusts her with her life, we also get an adorable moment when they are dismounting in which Sammy helps Yaz get down and holds both of her hands, when they all go in for a group hug we see Yaz place her hand on Sammy’s waist (as I mentioned in part 1 of this post series, that seems like an unusually place to put your hand on a friend and neither Sammy nor Yaz do that with anyone else in the group), when Sammy is listing her favorite people in the group as she and Kenji are hanging out in their gondola she mentions Yaz first while in Yaz's own gondola she is visibly longing to be over with Sammy (especially seeing how much fun Sammy and Kenji are having pushing on the sides of the gondola) instead of having to face Brooklyn and the fact that they are not close at all, just like when Sammy left Yaz with Kenji this feels almost like a deliberate move on Sammy’s part to get Yaz out of her comfort zone and forming closer bonds with the others (though I think it’s also an excuse for Sammy to spend some quality time with Kenji who definitely seems like he’s become a brother figure) We also get this moment a jealousy in which Yaz seems a little salty that Sammy is hanging out with Kenji (though on the surface it is about how they are messing around instead of helping, Yaz’s comment is definitely tinged with jealousy), this feels very much like the reaction of someone who has romantic feelings but doesn’t have the experience to properly interpret them and who has not been able to

talk about them or put a name to them, she clearly wants a closer relationship with Sammy but Yaz is unable to thoroughly define the relationship she wants which leaves her feeling like her needs aren’t being met in situations like this, in that sense she has fallen into a bit more of an insecure attachment again, she feels threatened by Sammy’s other friendships because she and Sammy haven’t differentiated their relationship from that of the friendships they have with the others I would just like to point out the lingering hug they share in which Yaz is clearly nuzzling Sammy’s neck and the fact that Yaz goes over to stand next to Sammy when she moves to hug Brooklyn, there’s no heterosexual explanation for that, or the way Yaz holds and comforts Sammy after pulling away from that dinosaur (if you look closely you can see Yaz rubbing Sammy’s arm with her thumb) And the scene where Yaz explains that Bumpy likes her so much because she keeps snacks in her pockets and then shares some of the snacks so Sammy can feed her too? Absolutely precious, we love to see Yaz being so soft with Sammy, like the way she calls out to her when part of the group goes to search Kenji’s dad’s penthouse for gas to put in the boat, or the way Yaz checks on Sammy while Ben’s siphoning gas from the limos in the penthouse’s garage, it’s clear here that Yaz also wants Sammy to be able to rely on her sometimes, to confide in her, Yaz doesn’t have time to respond in that moment because of yet another dinosaur attack (I also think that she was having a hard time responding because on some level Yaz is also afraid to go home) but the fact that she asked in the first place shows a lot of character and relationship growth, she even goes to check on Sammy later once they’re back on the boat, Sammy does the talking then and uses Yaz more as a sounding board but the gentle smile Yaz gives when Sammy walks away with the solution to her problem is absolutely priceless

Rating JWCC Ships

🦖 Benji (Ben/Kenji) - 7/10. I totally get where shippers are coming from with this. They had some cute season one moments and Kenji’s reaction to Ben’s “death” was quietly intense. I feel like this is an opposites attract type of ship, where Ben is always prepared and Kenji is...willfully unprepared.

🦕 Bensammy (Ben/Sammy) - 5/10. I don’t have a lot to say about this one because I don’t really see it but I don’t dislike it either.

🦖Yazben (Ben/Yasmina) - 5/10. Ah, the same as above. I don’t really see them together but I also don’t dislike them together.

🦕Brookben (Ben/Brooklynn) - 5/10. Look, it’s not that I think Ben likes dudes exclusively...it’s just that I also think that the girls don’t particularly like him romantically either. I don’t see them as a couple but I don’t dislike the ship. I can be persuaded!

🦖Benrius (Ben/Darius) - 10/10. We got such good content for them! That little moment on the monorail where Darius decides that he won’t ask Ben to risk his life for them but Ben does it anyway. How hard Darius tried to save Ben and how guilty he felt about it after. All of the touching. Pretty much everything about season 3, even their fight over Ben staying was so sweet. And the I love you made me scream with joy. The way that Darius accepted Ben needed to come to the decision to leave the island on his own and how he was waiting on the boat for Ben. I love them.

🦕Darenji (Darius/Kenji) - 6/10. I had to really think about my rating for this one because Kenji is such a dick. He really decided to shove responsibility off on Darius while trying to take credit for all of his plans. And he does this all the way up through season 3 right before they get on the boat. And then he blames Darius for leaving Brooklyn [temporarily] and isn’t over it by the time the credits roll as if Kenji isn’t directly responsible for making their lives harder than they need to be and his laziness and lying hasn’t risked their lives. That makes it sound like I hate this ship but tbh the first time I saw them together, I thought that they would be an interesting ship and there were moments spread throughout where I could see it.

🦖Dinostar (Darius/Brooklyn) - 9/10. These two are so cute together! They’ve got lots of cute moments and they work surprisingly well. Their nicknames for each other are super cute.

🦕Darisammy (Darius/Sammy) - 5/10. This is another one that I’m pretty neutral on.

🦖Dariyaz (Darius/Yasmina) - 5/10. I said it with Ben/girls but I feel the same for Yasmina/boys. I don’t really see them as a couple but I could be persuaded.

🦕Kenjilynn (Kenji/Brooklynn) - 8/10. I like the way they bicker in the beginning but honestly, didn’t start shipping them until season 3 where Kenji gets so upset about leaving Brooklynn behind. It definitely shed a different light on their relationship.

🦖Yazji (Kenji/Yasmina) - 4/10. Any chance that I might have shipped them - and it was a slim chance to begin with for the reasons stated above - absolutely went out the window when Kenji was so goddamn lazy and such an asshole that he wound up making Yasmina’s injured ankle even worse.

🦕Sammji (Kenji/Sammy) - 7/10. These two could be really cute together! I really liked how Kenji was soft with Sammy while she was poisoned and how he was willing to moo for her to ease some of her suffering. Plus, they’re both really outgoing and fun so I think they compliment each other well. I also really like the idea of Kenji going to Sammy’s farm and meeting her family and them adopting him as their son-in-law and giving him the love that he obviously needs.

🦖Yalynn (Yasmina/Brooklynn) - 6/10. I like that Yaz is really loyal and it would be cool to see that type of loyalty aimed at Brooklynn. But the fact is, it was aimed against her in season one and there’s an odd tension between them where they’re competing and basically having a dick measuring contest. If they were a couple, I think they’d be the type to try to out-do each other in every gesture of affection.

🦕Yasammy (Yasmina/Sammy) - 8/10. I love them together! This is where Yaz’s loyalty actually was - even though Sammy didn’t deserve it in season one lol - but I love the development of their relationship. They are so sweet to each other - except that one time Yaz was mean - and I like how close they are to each other. Their moments are so cute and I can’t wait to see more of them together.

🦖Sammylynn (Sammy/Brooklynn) - 5/10. They could be cute together actually, if you could get past seasons one and three. Sammy becoming the only follower that Brooklynn cares about. The way their relationship is a push and pull of being with each other and against each other. They had some bonding moments and I think with more development, they could be good.
