Witchcraft isn't what people tend to think it is.
Whenever you say witch, the average commoner will think pointy hats and cauldrons and love spells.
That had always made Seokjin scoff. What if he does make little potions for his friends' memory to improve for an exam of gift them charms that attract positive energy. Everyone has magic inside them, some people just don't know how to find it.
Jimin was one of these people. He came into Seokjin's life through a mutual friend, Kim Taehyung. Taehyung and Jin happened to be in the same herbology course, and Jimin and Taehyung happened to be childhood friends. These two also happened to be Tae's only close friends, so it was inevitable for them to get to know about one another.
So, inevitably, they met. And, almost comically, they immediately fell into step. They were widely different people, but they somehow worked. As if there was something magical about their bond. As if it was meant to happen.
On top of practicing magic, Seokjin had always been a firm believer that fate and destiny are two very active forces, and they're very much alive in every little thing we do.
But he kept it to himself. As he did with his magic.
Or at least, that was his initial intention. Seokjin had always been bad at words, so he showed his love and affection through actions. In particular, his magic. That's why it was inevitable for him to end up gifting the both of them with crystals for their birthdays, amethyst for Taehyung and golden calcite for Jimin, which were turned into necklaces. Just like it was inevitable for him to end up brewing his special tea for Jimin when he randomly invited him over two nights before an exam. Or, once again, how he placed a good luck sigil on the inside of Jimin's pen on that same night. Seokjin thought he was being subtle.
He wasn't.
What was even more subtle was the multitude of plants one could find scattered around his apartment, including the bathroom, or his ridiculously vast crystal collection, or his bookshelf solely dedicated to literature on witchcraft and pagan practices, or his cabinet with dried herbs and incense and candles of all shapes and colours.
So subtle.
It took Tae less to catch on because he, as Jin had guessed, had a slightly stronger connection to his magic due to his very strong intuition.
Jimin, on the other hand, found all of it weird, sure, but never had the word witch crossed his mind.
It was because of the younger that it came up.
"So hyung" he started off casually "you're a witch, right?"
Seokjin almost choked on his tea and Jimin's eyes nearly popped out of his sockets
"like, all these things you do, the crystals and herbs and stuff... you work with their, ehm, energy? is that a thing? saying magic sounds weird" Taehyung went on, seemingly unaware of his friends' state of shock.
Seokjin swallowed and fixed his gaze on his hands wrapping around the warm mug. He used that sensation to keep himself grounded despite the mild panic spreading in the back of his mind.
"I guess you could say that? I definitely believe everything has a very distinct energy. Like, if you think about it from a molecular or atomic point of you it kind of makes sense? And I really enjoy reading about different cultures and practices and, yeah. I'm kind of a modern witch?"
It sounded more like question than it did a statement and his voice had begun to fade as he spoke. The silence following felt deafening. What was actually deafening was the shriek Jimin let out, much to both his and Taehyung's surprise.
"That's so cool! Can you teach me stuff? The crystals look really cool, but I had no idea they actually had a purpose. Wait! Do they ones you got us have a meaning? Actually don't tell me, I wanna find out myself."
Tae and Jin shared a look of disbelief and started laughing. Deep and heartfelt, to the point that your body shakes so hard your limbs fail to support you and your eyes start to water.
Witchcraft isn't what people tend to think it is.
But maybe people aren't what witches tend to think either.
