i got a working kindle paperwhite off of ebay for around fifteen dollars just to mod it (which worked).

pros of the kindle (for me) include being able to download fic to it and highlight phrases like I would if i had printed it out as a physical book. I can also download ebooks and import them to the kindle with ease, as long as I have the right file format. and because I am using library books and downloaded fic, I dont have to worry about wifi connection or giving extra money to amazon.

cons: ya gotta charge it. its easy to forget about, and the screens dont always feel that great. I like the paperwhites with buttons. they dont all have backlights, so you cant read them under the covers in the darkest of nights without a flashlight. a lot of the newer ones do, though. if you get a brand new one, they can definitely be expensive, and i dont know how easy it is to import books from the computer to the kindle with a new book.

also the imports didnt always work for me without an ereader software like Calibri on my computer to send it to the kindle in the way the kindle liked.

i saw this vid (&comments) on tiktok which explained that the cheapest option would prob be (hopefully) just as good as the paperwhite. the newest option of the standard kindle sounds like it’d be almost the same with just a few slight differences. i will keep an eye out for second hand options ty for mentioning that bc it was something i forgot to consider! i am torn tho bc i think just the newest/newer versions are pretty similar to the paperwhite but i’m not 100p sure.
