If you could only watch one episode of Snowpiercer ever again, which one would you choose? ❄️🚂
That is soooo hard.... I think... 2x01? So much great stuff crammed into one episode. Melanie reuniting with Wilford and Alex. Bowie and the bathtub. The connector exploding. Close Second might be 1x10 and 2x02. That whole arc was peak Snowpiercer imo.

my fevered dream
summary: “I wish you stopped being so damn self-sacrificial,” he said, turning to look at her. In the dim light of the reading lamp, he watched as hurt chased across Melanie’s face. “I wish we could afford it,” she said quietly. ...or the one in which Bennett gets sick. Post 2x01. pairing: Melanie Cavill / Bennett Knox word count: 4228 rating: T author’s note: So, @kenzari asked me for a story about Melanie taking care of sick Bennett, and @akajb84 asked for a post season 2 reunion. And here we are :)
---
It had never been said, not explicitly anyway, but apparently, two things that didn’t mix well were sickness and an extinction event. For one thing, the medical facilities on Snowpiercer could only accommodate so many people. But, more importantly, they all knew that even the most harmless of viruses could end their survival experiment if it killed half of them and incapacitated the other half.
Suffice it to say that making it through seven years on the train without so much as a stuffy nose had left Bennett Knox more than a little proud of himself. Not that it was a competition, mind you. Or an achievement. But, at least, he was not as prone to allergies as Javi.
So when a bout of nasty flu knocked Bennett on his ass a few days after they had cut the train in half and left Wilford’s merry party behind, it felt like a slap in the face, to say the least. Seven years and counting, and he just had to fall sick when there was no other senior engineer on board to man the helm? Bennett Knox was not a religious man, but his fevered mind wondered what he had done to anger the powers-that-be to earn such a terrible injustice.

Audrey Rant Post #2
I was watching the two seasons of Snowpiercer today with a friend and the subject of Audrey’s character development occurred to me again. (For those in the fandom living under their respective rocks, the post I made about it is here)
My friend remarked to me that Audrey (like Jinju and the other engineers) knew about Melanie pretending to be Wilford the whole time. If you ignore the first season, it tracks okay; Audrey spiralling once she hears Wilford is alive for real in 2x01, and her lack of nervousness in the first season as she knows Wilford’s not actually on the train. Melanie and Audrey’s dynamic would also potentially reinforce this - Audrey acts like she knows more than she’s letting on, and Melanie acts like she’s aware that Audrey has this knowledge (”That stunt was beneath you, Audrey” comes to mind.)
However.
This makes no sense either. Audrey is shown to be someone who cares deeply for her Third Class allies and is always standing up for them whenever possible. This is shown by her orchestrating the bug prank on First Class and her speech in the courtroom scene. Until she and Layton’s gang team up for real in the finale, Audrey is constantly bucking against Melanie’s subjugation of Third Class, protesting their oppression and demanding that they get fair treatment.
Knowing Wilford isn’t alive and that Melanie is playing him; and also having the best interests of Third Class at heart actively contradict each other. If Audrey knows Wilford isn’t around, she would also reasonably deduce that Melanie is using his influence to manipulate everyone aboard the train. We know Audrey doesn’t care about not rocking the boat: the bug prank and the courtroom speech show us that. So I doubt she’d care about keeping Melanie-Wilford a secret in the interest of ‘keeping the peace’. That means there’s two situations going on here, neither of which make any sense at all:
1. Audrey knows Wilford isn’t on the train. She freaks out as soon as Wilford is revealed to be ‘alive for real’, showing maybe she knew he wasn’t around this whole time. Even despite her vociferous campaigning on the behalf of Third Class, she doesn’t notice or care that Wilford’s likeness is being used by Melanie to manipulate her friends into accepting worse treatment. This seems unlikely and is a huge contradiction for her character.
2. Audrey thinks Wilford is on the train. This makes her near-breakdown at the beginning of Season 2 really really weird. If his presence is enough to send her spiralling like that, wouldn’t she be in a permanent state of terror, constantly worried that Wilford might send for her at any point during the seven years since departure?
Basically I love Audrey more than anyone on this silly little train show and her utterly scorched earth character development was indicative of lazy writing and a complete lack of foreshadowing and reasonable character progression. The writers need to clean up her act in Season 3.

I’ve been thinking about Melanie and Wilford lately. Their interactions in S2 are among my favorite scenes of the season, and I’m only sad we didn’t get more.
So, I wrote what I was missing. This is my first fiction published on AO3. One chapter, 1100 words, 1st person narrative, Melanie, a “missing scene” from 2x01.
:) Very proud to be posting a completed work!
Edit: I’ll post a preview below the fold:
“Why isn’t Alexandra eating with us?” I ask, slowly touring the dining area. Bowie plays in the background as Alice's cockpit floods with a late, amber glow.
The sunset is symbolic. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear Joseph arranged it just for us, an autumnal spotlight for our stage, casting the perfect, fading tint to what he intends as my final act.
I know the script. I know my lines, and his. Joseph says, give me my train back. And I say, no. He repeats the directive, this time sounding like he might hurt me. And I say, no, because I know he won't. At least, not physically.
At least, not yet.
