Snapetober 2023

It's been awhile, my fellow sniends and snovers! While I haven't been active in Snapedom for over a year now (Genshin Impact claimed another one, I fear), I have not lost my love of our problematic fave, Severus Snape yet.

It was an honor to curate Snapetober prompts for you the past three years and I loved seeing all the content it inspired, but it feels a little unfair to hold onto an event for a fandom I no longer engage in and therefore, no longer give it the attention it deserves.

If you are wanting to participate in Snapetober for this year, past years prompts are still available for you to use! Whether you want to try a new approach at a prompt you've already done, or joined Snapedom too late to participate, they are there for you to pick and choose at your leisure! Snapetober has never had rules about what and when to post! I have some old prompts I never finished/uploaded, so perhaps I'll take this opportunity to finally share them! I also noticed that @momo-t-daye has come up with a fun and earthy themed list if you'd like to check it out! And of course, anyone is welcome to come up with and share a list of their own!

This style can’t really convey the feeling of absolute fucking terror that Severus must have experienced at the Triwizard Tournament when his Dark Mark began to burn. Can you imagine?

Snapetober 2020, Day 29: Alone

Snape ascended the steps to the Headmaster’s office, his footfalls loud in his own ears. The house elves had preceded him. His things had already been brought up from the dungeon and placed throughout the rooms, welcoming him with subtle touches of familiarity. His dark eyes sought them out, resting on each object he recognized, seeking the comfort they offered and finding none.

When he reached the foot of the gallery steps, he paused. A multitude of portraits cluttered the stone walls above him. Snape had never felt so acutely aware of the paintings. For one fevered moment, he imagined them tumbling down from their perches, burying him before he dared to set foot inside the Headmaster’s chambers. But the moment passed, and they did not fall. His throat bobbed as he swallowed. Gathering his courage, he slowly lifted his eyes, prepared to meet the disdainful gazes of headmasters past - but none of them were looking at him. Each of the paintings’ subjects was nodding gently in sleep, serenely oblivious to the intruder in their midst.

Snape’s black eyes raked over them. He searched for even one wakeful face, feeling sudden and bilious hatred towards them. There should be judgement, contempt, acknowledgement - not this indifference. It seemed so wrong. It wasn’t fair to him - Snape froze as his eyes caught on the edge of a completely unfamiliar frame. A new portrait. The latest addition to the gallery.

Dread and hope coiled nauseatingly together in the pit of Snape’s stomach. He drew a single bracing breath, then forced himself to look ... Albus Dumbledore dozed as tranquilly as the rest in his painting, resting comfortably in his old chair, peacefully unaware of the eyes watching him.

There would be no words of comfort, no forgiveness, no advice.

It was just a painting, after all.

That’s all that was left.

He was alone now. And what work there was left to do was his to do alone.

Letting his eyes slide away from the painting, Snape mounted the steps, and new Headmaster of Hogwarts took his place behind the ancient desk.

dearest sniends and snovers! connoisseurs of all things snape! the time has come again to celebrate our favorite potion’s master via the annual angsty and whump-heavy prompt list 🖤

like always, prompts are open to interpretation! that means you can take it in whatever direction feels right to you and so long as it touches the prompt in some way, you are doing it correctly! technically speaking, your beautiful contributions don’t even need to be angsty if you’d prefer to take a more lighthearted spin on the prompt. this year’s list is primarily angsty, but there are a few softer prompts (bolded) to act as a short break from the heavy content (and a bonus for november 1st, if you’d like to wrap up on a lighter note)

you can create for as many as you want; just pick and choose to your heart’s content. contributions can be anything - fic (any length, pov, au, or featuring characters), drabbles, art (any style or level of effort), gif sets, headcanon posts, plot bunnies you can’t be bothered to hash out, dialogue blurbs, moodboards, etc. there is also no true deadline! start early, post late, do the snapetober prompt list from 2020 instead. just keep it snape-centric (doesn’t even have to be his pov or have the angst directed at him; yk im always down bad for protective snape)
