Whole30 Cofounder Melissa Hartwig Shares Her Favorite Recipes
Melissa Hartwig Urban is a total badass, and happens to be the co-creator of the original Whole30 program. This 1-month reset eliminates sugar, dairy, and grains in favor of unprocessed foods like meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and natural fats.
But fear not, friends. The plan still gives you a ton of choices for yummy Whole30 meals from breakfast through dessert.
That’s where these recipes come in — 11 are her own favorites, and the rest were hand-picked from our editors. You need these recipes. ‘Nuff said.
Whole30 recipes for breakfast
1. Italian-style egg skillet
Photo: Notes From A Messy Kitchen
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Lug out your cast-iron skillet and get ready for the best breakfast you’ve had in a long time. With sauteed veggies and jammy eggs, this dish would be just as welcomed by a crowd of brunch guests as it would be by your date.
2. Sausage gravy
This is a Southern favorite, and although it’s usually served on a pile of warm grits, we have no problem with switching it up with crisp, fried potatoes. Almond and tapioca flours thicken the pan gravy.
3. Sausage zucchini breakfast casserole
Enough for the family or several days of zap-it microwave breakfasts. Shredded zucchini, tomatoes, sausage, and eggs makes this casserole good and hearty. And portable.
4. Sweet potato toast
Tumblr media
Photo: Paleo Paparazzi
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Sweet potato toast is the closest thing to bread on Whole30, so naturally we’re big fans. As for toppings, it’s all good, avocado, cucumber, lox, or deli meats.
5. Chia-cashew pudding
Ready to change it up from eggs? This protein-filled pudding features chia and hemp seeds, and cashews. The toppings are all up to you and Whole30.
6. Sweet potato skillet
Spiralized sweet potatoes are the base of this indulgent skillet, loaded with Whole30-approved chicken sausage and bacon. Onions, bell peppers, and a touch of jerk seasoning make this dish sing.
Whole30 lunches
7. Sausage, potato, and kale soup
Tumblr media
Photo: Whole30 Cookbook
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
This warming soup subdues kale into something you want to eat. Based on a classic Portuguese dish, it’s loaded with flavor. Make a big batch on Sunday night, then feast on it for lunch. You’ll crave it for days.
8. Slow cooker chicken chile verde
Tumblr media
Photo: The Real Food RDs
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
This 5-minute prep (!) dish is about to be your new weekday go-to lunch, whether you’re doing Whole30 or not. Mix that jar of salsa verde you’ve had in your cabinet forever into a slow cooker with chicken and chile, then serve with cauliflower or your favorite creamy veggies.
9. Whole30 sandwiches
These do-ahead, freezable, sandwiches use meat patties as the “bread.” This blogger gives lots of healthy options for dressing these breadless bundles, which are delicious at breakfast or lunch.
10. Enchilada-stuffed sweet potatoes
Tumblr media
Photo: Living Loving Paleo
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Sweet potatoes to the rescue! This time, we’re piling them high with enchilada fixin’s: Beef, tomato, and spices galore. This smoky tater is sweet and warm and way too tasty to feel like you’re missing out on tortillas.
11. Zucchini-carrot fritters
Zucchini and carrots may sound a bit like rabbit food, but these fritters taste like anything but. They warm up beautifully, and taste even better topped with coconut cream.
Pro tip: Add smoked salmon to tie it all together. You’re welcome.
12. Chicken tortilla-less soup
Tumblr media
Photo: The Whole Smiths
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
So, what if you can’t have the tortillas this month? This chicken soup blends all the classic flavors of this cheesy, tortilla-chip-y soup into a Whole30-approved lunch to look forward to for days ahead.
Whole30 dinners
13. Chimichurri chicken wings with ranch dressing
Tumblr media
Photo: Real Food with Dana
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Think you can’t do chicken wings on Whole30? Think again. And while you’re at it, make this creamy herb version of the bar fav. Make your own ranch (or use an approved bottled version) and stock up on the napkins —you’re going to need ’em.
14. Kale Caesar salad
We want to eat this now. And you’ll want to eat a bowl, too, on those nights when you’re looking for a little lighter fare — without lighter flavor.
It’s all about the macadamia nut “cheese” crumbles in this recipe, which will fulfill all of your Parmesan needs.
15. Shrimp and sausage skillet
Tumblr media
Photo: Paleo Newbie
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
This riff on surf-and-turf is ready in just 20 minutes — helllllo, weeknight dinner. (For what it’s worth, we’re into quick and easy on weekends too.)
As for sausage flavor, get creative. Chicken-apple! Smoky chorizo! Fennel and onion! It’s all good.
16. Sesame garlic beef short ribs
Tumblr media
Photo: Savory and Fancy
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Heat up your slow cooker and load it with meaty short ribs covered in a garlic-sesame marinade. Serve with steamed greens or asparagus — it’s like ordering Chinese takeout, but so much better, because you made it yourself.
17. Whole30 tuna casserole
This golden-crusted update on the ooey-gooey family fave features cashew sauce and spaghetti squash, along with our old pantry friend canned tuna. Easy, nutritious, delicious, done. You’ll still have time for Netflix later.
18. Creamy coconut milk meatballs
Tumblr media
Photo: I Heart Umami
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
A pan full of these Thai-inspired chicken meatballs and a fork is pretty much all we need tonight. The coconut milk and ginger sauce has a little funk thanks to fish sauce. Trust, it gives the meat a richer flavor.
We’re ready to pile these bad boys on a bed of greens and get munching. Pad Thai who?
19. Slow cooker beef brisket
Tumblr media
Photo: Anya Eats
*One of Melissa’s Favorites*
Brisket might be our favorite cozy dinner. And when made in a slow cooker, there’s no need to leave the oven on for 5 hours.
Whether you pull apart the meat alongside a salad or tender sauteed veggies tonight, hopefully you’ll have enough left for tomorrow. You don’t want to open up the fridge disappointed.
Whole30 desserts
20. No-bake cookies
Just four ingredients and a food processor are all you need to whirl almonds, dates, cocoa powder, and unsweetened coconut flakes into a dough. These guys are just naturally good.
21. Whole30 brownies
Bananas, cocoa powder, and almond butter bake up into moist and dreamy brownies that’ll have you saying, “Who needs chocolate chips?” How can something be this good only have 3 ingredients? We’re still not sure.
22. Coconut fruit tart
The creamy coconut-cashew filling is encased in a naturally sweet nutty crust. Blueberries add to the freshness of this off-the-charts good Whole30 dessert.
After the initial prep, you don’t even need to bake it either — just let it chill for at least an hour and you’re good to go.
23. Whole30 cake
This gives new meaning to the words fruit cake. And in a really good way. As in a cake assembled with fruit. This is so much fun. Total inspiration. We feel some insta photos coming on…
24. Chocolate pudding
Avocado is the secret ingredient in this quick, no-cook dessert. Your food processor will do the work of blending dates, bananas, avocado, and coconut oil into a smoooooth pudding that’ll keep in the fridge a couple days.
Wait a minute, who are we kidding? We want it now.
25. Beeting hearts
No need to wait until Valentine’s Day to make these adorable, blood-red confections. They make a dramatic statement any time of the year. The beet goes on.
Bottom line
Take a tip from Melissa Hartwig Urban — and us. These are our favorite Whole30 recipes, and they’ll keep you happy at breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. You might even forget you’re on Whole30.

Media Tasting at Teppan Kappou Kenji
Teppan Kappou Kenji, a modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine and sits in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Be part of the dining experience as the chef prepares your dishes right before your eyes or in a private dining room that is fit for 14 pax. Chef Kenji Okumura, all hailed from Ichinomiya, started his passion for Japanese food at the age of 19 and mastered his skills at Kaiseki dining under the master chef at Nadaman Japanese Restaurant in Nagoya Tokyu Hotel. Chef Okumura is now currently at Teppan Kappou Kenji. He believes in using fresh and finest seasonable ingredients in the dishes which he personally sourced from his regular trips to Japan. With a rich selection of oysters from Iseshima, Ise Ebi and Akamoku seaweed from the Mie prefecture, Unagi from Shimanto and other fresh produce which are imported directly from Japan under the Omakase menu. One of his specialities is teppanyaki dishes, we can’t wait to try them!
Here are some of the omakase dishes that we’ve enjoyed. This delightful healthy appetizer has whetted our appetites with a range of ingredients of different textures including kuruma ebi, hotaru ika, ikura, seasonal white asparagus and green asparagus with wasabi dressing and dried hoba leaf oil.
The seasonal sashimi platter is plated with few verdant green maple leaves and a custom-made ceramic golden serving bird to suggest the season! What’s hidden beneath the golden bird was Spanish mackerel and Japanese snapper.  The sashimi platter is served with shima aji (striped jack), kampachi (yellowtail), otoro (fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin) wrapped in tai (seabream). Sashimi was  fresh and retained all its natural flavours perfectly.
This beautifully plated seasonal platter inspired from the Hassun, the art where skills and techniques are integrated into the preparation of such meals. There are a total of nine miniature dishes and each course was a surprise visually and in taste.
1️⃣Tempura made from seasonal spring Japanese mountain vegetables 2️⃣Flounder, topped with Shio Kombu, wasabi leaf in a light shoyu-based sauce 3️⃣ Bamboo shoots, urui, Shin Wakame and Ikura, served in a refreshing jelly made in-house from dashi broth 4️⃣ Seasoned octopus with a variety of seasonal Japanese mountain vegetables 5️⃣ Baby conger eel on hoba leaf, served in wine ponzu and chilli radish 6️⃣ Housemade Sesame Tofu, topped with caviar and Kizami Wasabi 7️⃣ Grilled Barracuda 8️⃣ Slow-cooked Tako 9️⃣ Kegani, Na No Hana with Karusami
Indulge in juicy and tender Miyazaki A5 Wagyu tenderloin with a hint of pink in the middle cooked on the teppanyaki. Served with crunchy Kuruma Ebi on zucchini, juicy mushrooms. No sauce required for me! If you would like more, there are miso and ponzu sauces. I also like their crisp garlic chips!
Besides the Signature omakase, Teppan Kappou Kenji also features A La Carte Menu with an array of interesting dishes at affordable prices. If salad is too mainstream for you, you’ll be surprised with this salad combination in Akamoku seaweed dressing with a sneaky surprise. The Akamoku seaweed dressing may look watery in the jar but it’s actually soft, viscous with a sticky texture. It’s light and gluey in the assorted Japanese vegetables and seasonal fruits like natto and grated Japanese mountain yam with horseradish.
Healthy Salad with Japanese dressing at S$15.
The light flavoured housemade fishbone broth alongside with pork shabu shabu slices released an aromatic fragrance that brings comfort to the heart.
Pork Shabu Shabu Oroshi HotPot at S$22.
One of my favourite dishes of the night, the stewed wagyu hamburg. The wagyu patty was very tenderly tasty with strong flavours and cooked in a stew of housemade tomato-based with assorted vegetables like okra and pumpkin. Break open the onsen egg and wait no more to tuck in!
Stewed Wagyu Hamburg at S$15.
The teppan-style oysters were huge, fresh and each piece was exquisitely styled.
Japanese Oyster from Mie Prefecture at S$22 per 3 pieces.
The large lobster meat is prepared perfectly al dente topped with creamy uni. We can’t stop at one piece!
Japanese Lobster from Mie Prefecture at S$35.
If you can’t get enough of uni, here’s seasonal kamameshi claypot with assorted seasonal seafood including selected parts of golden snapper, Spanish mackerel, as well as flounder, Tai (red sea bream), salmon, bamboo shoots and mushrooms. The extra moist and soft Japanese rice is slow-cooked in Chef Kenji’s fish bone broth, not too oily nor salty. However, this claypot rice does not come with a layer of burnt rice.
Seasonal Kamameshi at S$28.
The smoky goodness of Teppanyaki scallops was satisfying that I tasted the natural flavours and the sweetness of the meat came bursting out with every bite.
Teppan Hokkaido Hotate with Sea Urchin at S$20 per 3 pieces.
At the end of our meal, we were served with some seasonal Japanese fruits including musk melon from Shizuoka, strawberries and orange. The orange is exceptional sweet on our visit.

43 Keto Diet Recipes That Will Help You Burn Fat Fast In 2018!
The Keto Diet is becoming one of the most popular diets of 2018, with studies showing that it could help you burn up to TEN times more fat than eating a standard American diet.
With this diet, your body turns to fat as it’s main source of energy, thus helping you drop unwanted pounds and lose weight while eating foods you would traditionally not be ‘allowed’ to eat on a diet.
To kick start your weight loss goals in 2018, we have collected 43 amazing Keto recipes that taste delicious and will help you burn fat! Save and share all your favourites on social media. Enjoy!
43 Keto Diet Recipes That Will Help You Burn Fat Fast In 2018!
Chicken Meatballs Stuffed With Provolone Cheese
“Chicken meatballs are one of my favorite things to eat! Keto meatballs consistently pop up on my weekly menu plan. They’re delicious and simple, but lend themselves to a variety of flavors. These chicken meatballs stuffed with provolone cheese are always a hit with the family.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Keto Butter Chicken
“This may be a little of a curve-ball, but if you want to make the most (nutritiously speaking) out of this butter chicken, forgo the butter. Wait, what? Yeah you heard me… substitute ghee in its place.” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Mexican Tuna Steak, Sweet Red Peppers & Avocado Salsa
“In my quest to eat more fresh fish this year – and by that I mean to expand my repertoire of salmon – I decided to finally make something with tuna. This recipe features tuna steaks pan-fried in coriander seeds and lime zest brown butter, cumin and paprika sweet onion and red peppers, topped with zesty avocado salsa.” Recipe: EatDrinkPaleo.
Keto Enchiladas
“So you could say I was skeptical when I began prepping the ingredients for this recipe, all the way through shooting the pictures. However, when I sat down with a plate of two enchiladas, I made my way through the first one and was stuffed. I was pleasantly surprised with how filling each enchilada was, and I hope you with be too!” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Shredded Beef Ragu With Sweet Potato Noodles
“Sweet potato noodles are great as an alternative to pasta, and serve as a perfect vehicle for this hearty, nourishing beef ragu. This Italian inspired meal is a must-have for any season. ” Recipe: EatDrinkPaleo.
Jalapeno Poppers Smoked With Bacon And Cream Cheese
“Football season is upon us. I’m not a sports person, so for me, this means next to nothing besides dodging carb-loaded game day snacks and listening to my friends yell at the tv. Although indulgent, bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers are usually a safe bet as party food goes. My low carb jalapeno poppers recipe kicks the flavor up a level by adding one of my favorite “ingredients”: smoke.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Cauliflower Parmesan Soup
“This creamy cauliflower parmesan soup is velvety and rich. It’s amazing how creamy the soup turns out considering there is no cream whatsoever. The trick to a creamy cauliflower soup without cream is adding in butter, or ghee if you’re dairy-free, and using a blender to puree. You can use either a stand blender or immersion blender, what is most convenient for you. Voila! Creamy without the cream and added calories!” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Keto White Chicken Chili
“This Keto White Chicken Chili is an amazing comfort food for the changing seasons. It’s filling, tasty and can easily be a crockpot/freezer meal!” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Keto Jalapeno Popper Soup
“This Keto Jalapeno Popper Soup will soon become your family’s favorite low carb comfort food. It’s packed with savory flavor and just the right amount of kick. Make it on the stove-top, in the slow cooker or in your pressure cooker for an easy dinner for the cold Winter months. Be sure to make at least a double batch for leftovers!” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Roasted Pork Belly Bites With Braised Cabbage
“Bacon is a way of life for us keto folks. The best way to know you’re getting a quality piece of bacon is to make it yourself.. but that can take quite a bit of work and that’s a recipe for a different day. A much simpler and still delicious route to take is roasting some good old-fashioned pork belly.” Recipe: Tasteaholics.
Cheddar Chicken & Broccoli Casserole
“We love broccoli cheddar! The combination is delicious and we love finding new ways of incorporating it into our day. We recently made a yummy Broccoli Cheddar Soup that will give even Panera Bread a run for its money. It’s creamy and thick, without all the added carbs that come from flour added.” Recipe: Tasteaholics.
Keto Chicken Soup
“When the the weather turns cold, or you’ve got a cold there are few things more comforting than a big warm bowl of chicken soup. I mean you can’t go to a book store and find a section full of Minestrone for Your Soul or Clam Chowder for Your Soul (well, maybe you could in you searched hard enough in New England). But for the most part chicken soup is synonymous with warmth…comfort…healing, and this low carb version doesn’t disappoint your tastebuds or your soul. ” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Creamy Garlic Chicken Soup
“To prepare the creamy garlic chicken soup, I heated butter in a saucepan and added the shredded chicken. Once the chicken was warmed and coated in butter, I added the cream cheese to the pot and mixed as it melted over medium heat.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Italian Sheet Pan Eggs With Artichokes & Prosciutto
“You can use this simple recipe as a template and create your own version of sheet pan breakfast. Try a combination of sun-dried tomatoes and Italian sausage, or sliced mushrooms and asparagus.” Recipe: EatDrinkPaleo.
Paleo Bang Bang Chicken (With Mango Cucumber Salad)
“I have wanted to make a paleo bang bang chicken for a long time. You might have come across the name bang bang chicken or bang bang shrimp in a hipster fusion restaurant but the name is actually Chinese (Szechuan) in origin. Also known as bon bon chicken, the traditional dish consists of cold, shredded chicken drenched in spicy sesame sauce. The chicken is tenderised by pounding with a heavy wooden stick, and as such, it is claimed that the name refers to the sound of the chicken being pounded.” Recipe: EatDrinkPaleo.
Shredded Chicken Chili
“I’m all about that meal prep and shredded chicken has become part of my regular routine… it’s always in the fridge ready to go! With a stock of shredded chicken on hand, this dinner comes together for me in a matter of minutes. If you aren’t much of a meal planner or prepper, you can quickly boil and shred the chicken before combining all of your chili ingredients or you can go the rotisserie chicken route and shred that up instead. See! Nutritious cooking doesn’t have to be that complicated!” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Keto Cheeseburger Casserole Skillet
“Gluten free buns are predominantly dry and the texture is off, and lettuce wrapped burgers always end up disintegrating. That’s where this delicious cheeseburger casserole comes in. All the flavors of your favorite burger in one convenient dish. So instead of dealing with a crumbly carb filled bun, or a the puddle left behind from a lettuce wrapped burger, pull up a seat and grab a forkful of this tasty entree.” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Spicy Baked Chicken Meatballs
“These baked chicken meatballs are SPICY! If you can handle a solid roundhouse kick to your palate, you’re in the right place. Poblanos, habaneros, and jalapeños, oh my! Loaded with spicy low carb peppers, this chicken meatball recipe is not for the faint of heart.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Low Carb Raspberry Glazed Chicken Wings
“Back to the chicken! Raspberry glazed chicken wings, where have you been all my life? The berry wing sauce is crazy delicious and so incredibly simple. Sweet, tart, unapologetically fruity. Arguably best of all, you just toss the ingredients in a casserole dish and walk away until your timer goes off.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Low-Carb Smoky Pulled Pork Breakfast Hash
“This smoky pulled pork breakfast hash is the perfect way to start the day. The runny egg yolk almost acts like a sauce, and when you get a forkful of pork, veggies, and egg it’s as perfect a bite as any meal I could imagine.” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Keto Indian Chicken Curry
“In a crockpot, combine chicken, tomatoes, coconut milk, ghee, garam masala, ground ginger, and garlic powder. Mix well to ensure chicken breast is evenly seasoned. Cover the slow cooker and set the temperature to low for 6 hours.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Low Carb Keto Chicken Tetrazzini With Zucchini Noodles
“Born out of an insatiable, nagging pasta craving and iron-clad willpower, I now present to you: low carb keto chicken tetrazzini. This chicken tetrazzini is made with zucchini noodles instead of spaghetti, and the sauce is entirely keto friendly. If comfort food and keto fell in love and had a baby, it would be this low carb casserole recipe.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Keto Chicken Wings
“The blue cheese in this recipe is what really makes it drool-worthy, and it’s also a super nutritious component of the meal. Blue cheese is a good source of protein, potassium, and calcium, but it’s the moldy blue veins that run through it that really pack a healthy punch.” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Keto Tandoori Chicken Bowls
“Needless to say this was not the greatest introduction into Indian food and I was a little jaded when we tried again a few months later at another Indian restaurant while out of town. I was amazed… The flavors, the spices, all of it was so far removed from our prior experience. I was absolutely hooked; chana masala ✓, tikka masala ✓, palak paneer ✓, but the one dish I can’t get enough of has always been tandoori chicken.” Recipe: CastIronKeto.
Slow Cooker Keto Chicken Tikka Masala
“Chicken Tikka Masala is a super delicious and flavorful curry that you can now make keto! You can serve this on its own and it’s an amazing dish, though you can pair it with some sides to “bulk” it up in a sense. I decided to serve this with cauliflower rice, with a 1/6 serving per person.” Recipe: Ruled.
Sesame Almond Zoodle Bowl
“The sesame almond zoodle bowl is the perfect vehicle for this amazing sauce. Peanut sauce has been one of my favorite dipping and drizzling sauces for everything from low carb egg rolls to an overflowing bowl of stir fry veggies. Sadly, I’ve recently begun reducing my peanut intake. I’ve been focusing on more recipes that incorporate keto friendly nuts and nut butters like cashews and almonds and I have fallen in love!” Recipe: Ruled.
Chicken Tender Lazone
“This flavorful chicken dinner comes together in a flash! Smoky chicken tenders are pan seared in butter then served with a decadent sauce over zoodles. I can get this on the table in 30 minutes or less, so it’s the perfect dinner for a busy night.” Recipe: Ruled.
Zucchini Pasta With Chicken & Pistachios
“This recipe is an homage to the pasta recipes that show up on food magazine covers every spring. You know the ones: they feature a bowl of pasta flecked with herbs and golden chicken—and smiling, painfully chic people gathered around a picnic table on a hillside, all bathed in dappled sunlight.” Recipe: HappyBodyFormula.
Low Carb Broccoli Crust Pizza
“This Low Carb Broccoli Crust Pizza is an amazingly nutritious take on a classic favorite meal.” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Stuffed Beef Rolls
“These stuffed beef rolls are wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with mushrooms, onions, spinach, cream cheese and other cheeses. They are crispy on the outside and gooey in the middle.” Recipe: Ruled.
Baked Italian Meatballs
“Traditional carb heavy Italian dishes can be something people miss when following a ketogenic diet. With this recipe you can recreate those familiar comforting flavors with a vastly reduced carb count!” Recipe: Ruled.
Instant Pot Smothered Pork Chops
“I love using the Instant Pot in the summer months when I don’t feel like heating up with kitchen with the stove or oven. These Smothered Pork Chops are a one pot dish that’s perfect for busy nights when we’re short on time but still want a homemade dinner that’s quick and easy.” Recipe: Ruled.
Keto Cauliflower Pizza Casserole
“Instead of using carb-loaded pasta as a base, we use steamed cauliflower. Not a cauliflower fan? Try the recipe anyway. It doesn’t taste one bit like cauliflower. Instead, it’s more like macaroni and cheese meets pepperoni pizza. The sauce is rich and creamy with notes of tomato, garlic, basil and oregano. The red pepper flakes add just a little bit of heat and complexity. Add in layers of pepperoni and gooey mozzarella cheese, and this recipe becomes comfort food nirvana.” Recipe: Ruled.
Low-Carb Cauli Cottage Pie
“This time around it is not topped with mash potato and a sprinkle of melted cheese (although feel free to sprinkle if you wish) but rather a healthy thick layer of delicious, healthy and creamy caulimash topped with the Paleo favourite, crispy bacon!” Recipe: Eighty20Nutrition.
Keto Egg Roll In A Bowl
“Keto egg roll in a bowl has been an all-time favorite dish of mine since embarking on a ketogenic lifestyle. It’s crazy popular in the low carb, paleo, and whole 30 circles for several reasons: it’s quick, it’s easy, and it captures the delightful essence of an egg roll without all the garbage added.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Low Carb Chicken Enchilada Casserole
“I have two favorite foods, pizza, and enchiladas. If they were the only food available, I could eat them both every day and be happy. But when you follow a low carb diet, those are two types of foods that are notoriously full of carbs.” Recipe: 730SageStreet.
Low Carb Pizza – Turkey Crust Meatza
“Since then, I’ve tweaked a few things, played around with the ratios, cooking vessels, and a variety of toppings. I prefer to use a cast-iron skillet to get a nice crunch on the crust. Cast-iron skillets get super hot and stay that way, which is great for searing meat. Since your crust is made of meat and cheese, the meat is seared nicely while the cheese crisps up.” Recipe: Ketogasm.
Slow Cooker Chicken Low Carb Nachos
“Make delicious keto nachos with chicken in the slow cooker. These low carb nachos are delicious and use cheddar cheese crisps instead of traditional tortilla chips. Add your favorite toppings like sour cream, tomatoes and onions and you won’t even miss the corn chips.” Recipe: 730SageStreet.
Keto Steak Tacos With Pork Rind Tortillas
“The best part about these Keto Steak Tacos on Pork Rind Tortillas is they are extremely low carb. With so few ingredients, they are sure to become a fast favorite!” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Easy Keto Salmon Cakes
“These easy keto salmon cakes are a fun and flavorful low carb meal without any hassle. Great for quick lunches and easy meal prep!” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Keto Chicken Enchilada Bowl
“This Keto Chicken Enchilada Bowl is a low carb twist on a Mexican favorite! It’s SO easy to make, totally filling and ridiculously yummy!” Recipe: HeyKetoMama.
Crispy Slow Cooker Carnitas (Mexican Pulled Pork)
“Crispy Slow Cooker Carnitas (Mexican Pulled Pork) Con Ancho Chiles | Poblano Peppers smothered in so much flavour, you won’t be able to put your forks down!” Recipe:
Sun Dried Tomato Cheesy Meatballs
“Tender and juicy Sun Dried Tomato Cheesy Meatballs (Low Carb) spiked with sun dried tomato pieces, garlic and fresh herbs, fried and simmered in a simple tomato sauce with so. much. cheese. All in one skillet!” Recipe:

Best lunch restaurants in Toronto in 2017
CHABROL
90 Yorkville Ave., 416-428-6641 Doug Penfold and Niall McCotter of Cava have added a tiny charmer of a French bistro, Chabrol. In summer it’s one of the nicest patios in town. Their delectable French classics comprise tartine of raw trout that is cured on housemade bread topped with radish and chervil. Perfect papillote with leeks, sea asparagus and Swiss chard with exceptional vermouth beurre blanc of fish. Ballotine of chicken is perfect moist white meat with buttery roasted fennel and apple with emerald green watercress soubise (creamed onion sauce). But ttoro, a southern French bouillabaisse with impeccable seafood must be eaten by one in strong rich saffron-scented broth. And for dessert, classic French apple tart. The room is so tiny you are able to see — and smell — the buttery French apple tart baking in the glass-fronted oven. It’s drenched in Calvados sabayon at the table and built on puff pastry. Require a large spoon.
PATRIA
480 King St. W., 416 367 0505 King of clubs Charles Khabouth made a really lovely eatery, as he always does. Patria is two floors with interesting lighting, a giant embroidered artwork installation as well as a tall wall of wine bottles. And his partner Hanif Harji ensures the impeccable quality of the piquant pleasures of southern Spain. Three- year-old cured ham that is is superbly nutty thanks to the acorns the hoof that is black free-range pigs ate; this is a carnivore. Patria brings in artisanal wines and cheeses from Spain, and serves the cheeses at room temperature, with sweet grilled oil and /tart quince jelly -kissed baguette. Their azure that is Spanish is a farmhouse product which provides a run for the money to French Roquefort. They do terrific tapas. Creamy/ manchego that is crisp croquettes. Fab fresh house- a salad that is big turns into way more enjoyable than veg are. Patria’s kitchen does the conventional foods of southern Spain but lighter and jazzier. With spinach sounds ordinary but tastes exciting chickpeas stewed. Additionally very southern Spanish and more correctly cooked is fideos with clams and chorizo, thin pasta that was short stewed in spicy tomato broth, infused with smoke atop totally cooked fat clams.
CAMPAGNOLO
832 Dundas St. W., 416 364 4785 Campagnolo has matured into a rock solid champion of Italo-comfort food, alla nonna, from warm cheesy gougères pastry in the breadbasket. In between are high-flavoured house-made pastas with fantastic tomato sauce constructed on browned garlic and guanciale. That is substantial cooking — Upscale Ital-mamma food. And the room feels increasingly gracious as the rest of the popular restos in town mimic their chance take on fine food.
JABISTRO
222 Richmond St. W., 647-748-0222 Amusing Ja is much very popular now. With that comes somewhat harried service and less focus on detail. We still love their aburi and oshi, and the likes of fatty tuna handrolls with tuna that melts on nori and the tongue that crackles like glass. Agedashi is a splendor of smoky Japanese soup stock with deep fried BC clams, green onion and eggplant. And how adroit to infuse miso soup with lobster! The house special JaBistroll is real crab uni and salmon rolled in rice studded with flying fish roe in sauce that’s a cross between light and hollandaise mayo — still delightful.
LA CASCINA RISTORANTE
1552 Avenue Rd., 416 590 7819 Chef Luca Del Rosso is that rare man who challenges himself every night to make an ever changing menu composed mostly of the foods his grandmother made in Abruzzo. Here is the countryside Italian cooking that many pretend to but few master, for it is deceptively simple but many-layered. Seemingly complicated although basic antipasti like beans with red onions and roasted squash with sweet peppers showcase chef’s gifts. Chef woos us with his various excellent homemade pastas, often scented with truffles. He cooks it with fire and sources meat from local farmers. Who cares if both room and place are anti-fashionable? Here is Italian style, the true deal.
Engagement party venues
YASU
81 Harbord St., 416-477-2361 Yasu’s commitment to great sushi is unwavering, which is why it’s such a booking that is hard to get. They book 30 days out for his or her set dinner, $80 for 18 perfect pieces if sushi made before your eyes and delivered in a calm and measured minuet. No more, no less. No tempura, virtually no tables, no teriyaki. Just a tiny simple white room with every one of the dazzle on the tongue. 12 fortunate folks sit in the sushi bar and watch chef Yasuhisa Ouchi and his helpers do the hand dancing, preparing one sushi at a time. You get what was flown from around the world, because week: Ruby red ocean trout from Scotland, although it changes depending on fish markets. Impossibly sweet scallops from either Hokkaido, Japan or Gasp. Sweet fresh uni from Japan so chip it breaks like glass. Deep red rich toro tuna like butter. Monkfish liver with shiso leaf and ponzu sauce. Hay that was just seared smoked Spanish mackerel with chili and grated daikon. Like an edible jewel box.
Rasa
196 Robert St., 647-350-8221 Interesting food Annex style: Means multi-culti and super cool dark woodsy room. They greet you with mini- yummy onion butter and muffins, and the cooking is ever more guaranteed, flavours that are huge and exciting ideas. Bangkok Bowl is fab — super-crunchy deep-fried delightful mango jicama slaw punctuated with peanuts that are smoked and squid with just charred tuna. We adore rich cheese sauce, topped with crunchy slivers of fried onion that is deep and the charred Brussels sprouts with sweet/sour/spicy Scotch bonnet vinaigrette. And oh schmaltz for smooth, jalapeño for heat, chicken skin for crisp, the hot magnificence of rare strip steak with pickled shrimps for sour and fish sauce mayo for salty. The sinful enjoyment of pork belly that was sauted made complex -spice, hot with gingered carrot puree, exotic with charred scallions and bok choy, sophisticate with puffed rice on black sesame puree.
ENOTECA SOCIALE
1288 Dundas St. W., 416 534 1200 Sociale is refusing to coast, has upped its game. Still the same precious southern Italian cooking, but better! The best comfort food: Arancini, deep-fried balls of risotto stuffed with oozing mozzarella du bufula. Cotechino — Tender house-made pork sausage with perfect well-flavored lentils spiked with puckery marinated and grilled radicchio. Must eat: Bucatini with perhaps the very best pasta sauce in town, a success of three fixings. Crispy crunchy tomato guanciale and chile. In addition, we adore the pillowy gnocchi with chile- tomato sauce that is kissed and smoked ricotta. Inhale creamy rice pudding with currants and pine nuts. That is the best simplicity.

Media Tasting at Don & Tori
Foodies who are a fan of Japan’s Tsukiji Fish Market, will be delighted with ingredients flown directly to Don & Tori. Don & Tori is a modern Japanese restaurant with Japanese oriental mural to complete the whole Japanese dining experience. Grab a seat at the sushi bar and enjoy watching spectacle Chefs’ knife skills. Don & Tori is helmed by Chef Jack Chang under the guidance of renowned local chefs Raymond Tan and Max Lai.
The thinly sliced salmon is flavoured with truffle oil and garnished with chives and crispy garlic chips! While the fragrance of truffles and crunch from garlic chips whets our appetite and it gets pretty addictive.
Truffle salmon carpaccio at S$18
5-kinds of mixed sashimi served on a white platter with some garnishing including wasabi, maple leaves and kogiku chrysanthemum flower. You can expect salmon belly, amberjack, sweet prawns and founder in this mixed sashimi platter. It is accompanied with ponzu sauce, a good complement to thinly sliced sashimi of founder. The sashimis were decently fresh with no fishy smell or fishy taste on our visit.
Mixed Sashimi Platter at S$40.
Grilled black cod topped with miso-egg sauce set on a bed of asparagus is one of my favourite dishes. The miso-egg sauce is beautifully torched with the crisp on the outer yet juicy and flaky on the inside.
Black Cod at S$28.
The al dente angel hair well-tossed with white truffle oil, well-balanced flavours from Japanese sakura baby prawns and caviar. The first few mouthfuls of the pasta were shiok with a nice fragrance of the sakura baby prawns and white truffle oil. I would have enjoyed more if the sakura baby prawns are more crisp, lighter and less oily. However, my foodie partner in crime loved it. Probably it’s just my light tastebud.
Sakura Ebi Angel Hair Pasta at S$32.
The truffle wagyu foie gras don comes with premium ingredients including seared Joshu wagyu, French foie gras and custard-like onsen egg with garlic chips and truffle oil. Indulged in foie gras leaving a good touch of lingering buttery creaminess that makes you crave for more. Joshu wagyu had a nice bejewelled marbling with a unique aroma and tender. I also enjoyed the garlic chips which impart an interesting smoky garlicky flavour to the dish.
Truffle Wagyu Foie Gras Don at S$38.
At the end of the meal, we had their signature homemade black sesame ice cream embracing its earthy with slightly bitter flavour. If you have a sweet tooth, this might not be for you.
Homemade Goma Ice Cream at S$8.
Dim yellow and low-hanging lamps light the restaurant in a comfortable and undemanding spot to which you have in search of a wonderful Japanese dinner. Friendly service crews consistently topping green tea so that you always enjoy a hot cuppa of tea at any time of the meal.
