i had the brush set too small at first & didnt realize until i was already too far along- full body diamond authority is ok w the shaded fit & wings but the headshot is just. eh. kinda dislike it. im fucking obsessed with the other headshot tho

giyuu's a lapis along w tsutako, normal lapis terraforming job but some shit went down, tsutako got shattered, giyuu was left to fend for herself until she ran into a lost kunzite fresh out the ground (she had a slight imperfection, showed up as a spot along her cheek (corner of mouth to center base of ear) that looks like raw kunzite/ yk when a helmet or somethn gets shaved down sliding against a road? that)

they tough it out in the wilds for a while, they got attacked and accidentally fused to defend themselves, kept fusing when they were in trouble after that- yadda yadda meet makomo (also a gem) & sakonji and learn how to be their own person, getting their own names (giyuu got Giyuu, the kunzite got Sabito) and meeting a group of other rogue gems & making human friends

sabito got particularly interested in the concept of human masculinity & highly respected the closest man she knew, sakonji- transed his gender & chose to dedicate himself to protecting those he cares about. giyuu is very close to him and also changed pronouns & vibes bc sabito loved it so much, though he doesnt really care about human perceptions of gender (hes a pretty rock made of light, the fuck does he need a gender for? (sabito doesnt see it that way, he never got indoctrinated/had a formal gem education or whatever, so hes just vibin))

something something giyuu found a way to precisely control water, and what is ice if not Structured Water. sabito never got whatever his job as a kunzite was, but he has a similar ability as Pearl where hes able to summon a blade from his gem (rectangular cut, back of his left hand). when theyre fused they become Hawk's Eye (also know as blue tiger's eye), able to both control water(& subsequently ice) and form blades along his arms and feet; the blades on his feet allow him to ice skate, the blades on his arms are attached at two points on the forearm and is curved over the hand- the blade's allowed to spin around the arm, tip of the blade is at the point of rotation so itll be in the same spot above the hand no matter what side of the arm its on

Artistic choices aside, I just really wish WotC would stop focusing on drow skin tones when it comes to alignment and making them more likable or palatable, because whenever they try to change things up with drow appearances it always has the worst implications behind it.

#I understand for example why drow might be shown as lighter-skinned in merch for the record #and certain skin tones are difficult to adequately portray in certain artistic mediums and I get that too #but tbh I'm not a fan of how Drizzt in particular is increasingly being shown as like... really pale silvery gray #when he's textually described as being black-skinned #part of the reason Drizzt is so groundbreaking as a character is because he is intelligent empathetic and honorable WHILE being dark #I think it makes sense for drow to have variant skin tones so please do not read into this the wrong way #I just am not a fan of how WotC's solution to valid criticisms of the racist implications behind 'evil races' like drow is to just... #tie skin tone to moral alignment and make the good ones lighter-skinned #instead of like... addressing the ACTUAL criticism that making reasoning races 'good' or 'evil' in broad strokes is really gross actually

Sometimes one remembers that the most common ancestral race of hobbits is described by Tolkien as "browner of skin" then the less common two (who might have been mostly outbred over the many years? on the topic of the "fairer of skin and also of hair" set Concerning Hobbits describes that "the strong Fallohidish strain could still be noted among the greater families, such as the Took and the Masters of Buckland", which to me implies that while there's still clear ancestry there they probably still have heavy Harfoot or even Stoor influence going on- otherwise why describe it as a 'strong strain' rather than just say they're still primarily Fallohidish families? especially when you consider that the section in question is discussing that they were particularly bold and adventurous for hobbits and so given what the Tooks and Brandybucks are like it may be more often a matter of inclination rather than visuals- not to doubt that the visuals show up, but probably not as often as inclination, especially if you allow for the secrecy-focused courting habits mentioned in the first draft of the first chapter of LotR (as published in The Return of the Shadow: The History of Lord of the Rings Part 1, by Christopher Tolkien, pg 17, yes I did go hunting), which would make marriages between differing groups so much more accessible (and may actually be why that's a thing)), that their curly hair is consistently pointed out, and that our initial description of hobbits given in The Hobbit specifically mentions "nimble brown fingers".

And then one gets aggravated all over again at how long it took for non-white hobbits to show up in adaptations and the sheer number of people over the years who have tried to make out like non-white hobbits would be such a horrible canon-breaking thing.

#sorry i got pulled on a bit of a tangent there- longtime followers probably half-expected it #you wouldn't think this would be a post to hunt over but i checked four different books on this one #yes two were just two copies of the hobbit to verify information but still #the whole secrecy in courting and marriage thing might be jossed by the third version of that chapter (pg 29 of the same book) #which mentions a wedding feast #but these are hobbits and it's just as likely that eloping is not considered a good enough reason to not throw a reception party #but yes brown-skinned hobbits are a thing and have been a thing and it boils my turnips when racist idiots try to pretend it's not #my guestimate would be tones probably ranging from olive to medium brown on average #with a heavy lean towards the brown populationwise #given the name 'fallohide' and that 'fallow' is a light brown or yellow-ish brown tone #but of course i can't rightly know #is it what tolkien intended? i don't know i'm not him i'm just working off some of what he wrote #but it's what he wrote there for us

not to rehash the same art drama but do the "pro" artists that only draw 1-2 body types not feel embarrassed they can only draw like one body type. like you call yourself a professional, but can can only draw skinny or maybe curvy female body type. like isnt it extra embarrassing if you can draw fat, skinny, scrawny, muscly dudes but girls are copy pasted skinny/curvy body type. i mean i get drawing what you like and you dont have to draw everything, but i feel like if you are a pro you need to have at least some skill to make it decent yknow esp if it is your portfolio.

The main idea behind this is that Badyah Hassan (Norma’s crush) sounds like Nazia Hassan, a famous Pakistani singer (I am a fan of her Aap Jaisa Koi and Boom Boom) so I wanted there to be a silly little misunderstanding and explore Norma’s relationship with her mum a little.

BTW: Beta can be used as “daughter/child” despite being literally “son”. “Mera baccha” is “my child”.

Reupload of an outfit ref I drew for my mechanist (I fixed some stuff I wasn’t happy with and fixed the resolution >>) I plan to draw more outfits for her eventually, but for now I’m happy with this. Can’t believe I finished this literally like a week before they released an actual jade prosthetic skin (and for the other arm no less!!)
