I can usually pretty easily pick an AOTY but this year??? Such a good fucking year for music I genuinely can’t decide on a favourite album let alone a favourite track

Silent Planet are a Californian metalcore group who have been kicking around for the last 14 years. This latest album is their 5th, I don’t know an awful lot more about them than that, so I guess we will find out the old fashioned way.

It’s absolutely crushing, I can pick out generous helpings of prog, industrial, djent, metalcore, Deathcore, a rather fulfilling cocktail. Straight away from “Offworlder” we start out having a little macabre rave to being whipped hard by that ridiculously deep twangy bass and piercing screams and growls, absolute shivers. We get into a deep groove through “Collider” being smacked around by the heaviness a bit more whilst enjoying a dark melodic chorus. “Dreamwalker” comes for your neck with a sledgehammer, I couldn’t easily snap my neck off to that, but then it slows down tricking you into dropping your guard with some semi melodic vocals, bang bang and it’s back again with a vengeance, absolutely quality. I’ve just been on one trippy journey with “Antimatter” and I feel amazing, such an odd but enticing energy. Scarypoolparty (Alejandro Aranda) helps out on “Euphoria” giving a very Deftones vibe to that chorus which is nice and wavey. “The Overgrown” is a spiritual journey that eventually collapses into a nightmare, as you can tell I’ve had a bit of a moment with this song because it’s just so bloody good!

For my first outing with Silent Planet I’m definitely going to commit to them. I wanna get in a really dark venue with a fantastic lighting rig and let the energy loose live, picturing this on stage is bringing me a lot of anticipation!

Just wanted to share some of my favorite songs of 2023. I'm going to attempt to post 1 song each day from 12/26 - 1/1. I'm limiting myself to 2 songs per artist.

Starting this off on 12/26 with SP's new album. I was going to write a whole paragraph about this album but I don't have the energy to. TL;DR It's amazing and currently at my 2nd favorite SP album.

Here is my favorite heavy track from the album. The lyrics are perfect and it melts your face off. This is kind of the feeling you get when you're in a horrible situation that you can't escape. In that sense, the track really connects with me in a deep way. Give it a listen if you've got the chance.
