Congratulations on Not Dying (Happy Birthday, Chris!) [Chapter Two]
Summary: This is Part Sixteen of my series A Herrmann/Halstead Production. It is an AU where Christopher Herrmann's mom had an affair with Pat Halstead resulting in a baby. The series follows this OC character (Rebecca "Bex" Herrmann) as she grows up and gets to know her brothers and the various Chicago teams. It is very much an AU, just to underscore that. It doesn't follow the same timeline and characters will follow different paths.
Click here for the Series Rundown where you can find the links to read all of the previous installments (which I highly recommend you do so that this one makes sense.)
Rating: Teen and Up
Relationships: Christopher Herrmann & Original Female Character, Christopher Herrmann/Cindy Herrmann, Jay Halstead & Original Female Character, Will Halstead & Original Female Character, Jay Halstead & Will Halstead, pre-Greg 'Mouse' Gerwitz/Original Female Character, pre-Will Halstead/Connor Rhodes, Assorted OC Couples
Warnings: Language, Light Angst, People Making Bad Decisions
A/N: To underscore my previous note, this is an alternate universe so things have unfolded differently. This will not follow the canon arc exactly by any means. But I hope you'll still enjoy it!
Chapter One
Chapter Two
Jay
Jay was relieved to see Platt wasn’t working the desk today. He didn’t need her reporting back to Bex that he hadn’t actually been called into work and was only there getting caught up on paperwork.
He nodded at a few patrol officers he recognized as he headed up to Intelligence.
He wasn’t hiding, okay?
He just needed a bit more time before he saw his sister face to face because he knew the countdown clock was on, ticking down to when she was going to poke at him to talk about what happened with Erin this time around.
But Jay didn’t want to talk to Bex.
He wanted to talk to Erin.
And he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to do that anymore.
They’d been doing well keeping their chats up over long distance, but now all Jay could think about was what they’d had—what they could still have if Erin wasn’t living hundreds of miles away.
One night, amazing as it was, had blown up the friendship that had already been carefully reconstructed once. She’d left while he was still asleep leaving nothing but the faint scent of her perfume. It was better that way. Jay knew that. If she’d stuck around, they’d have ended with a fight and neither of them wanted that.
But being left with this ache didn’t feel much better.
Now all he could do was torture himself with thoughts of how they never should have gotten together in the first place because then at least he’d still have his friend.
He’d lost enough of those.
Jay sighed as he flopped down at his desk and booted up his computer. He’d get a few hours of work in and then grab the balloons and head over to help Bex. She had Will helping her out and the venue was doing a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of setting things up. They’d be fine.
A few hours and he’d have his head on straight and his party face on.
*** T-minus eight hours to the party.

Bex
So, when Matt said it was a ‘bit of a drive’ to get to the party supply place, he actually meant ninety minutes.
But! His buddy was letting them borrow the tables and chairs for free because he had no bookings that weekend and he owed Matt a favour so that was amazing.
Matt, Kelly, Capp, and Tony had hit the road shortly after the meeting wrapped up and headed out there. Matt texted her a few minutes ago that they were close so they should be back in plenty of time to set things up.
Okay!
That was good.
Donna, Uncle Bo, Trudy, Uncle Mouch, Shay, and Julie were currently raiding the grocery stores to grab everything they needed.
Gabi and Stella were on the drinks run.
Sylvie was tracking down plates, cups, cutlery, tea lights for the tables, and fairy lights for the yard.
Otis and Joe were with her at Chris and Cindy’s and they were going to tackle the backyard. The three of them stood on the back patio and surveyed the scene in front of them. Toys and sports equipment were strewn about, but there was also a playhouse, a trampoline, and a standing hammock.
“Okay,” Bex said, clapping her hands together. “Most of this stuff has a home in the garage so that’s easy. We can move the playhouse to that corner of the yard and then dismantle the trampoline and the hammock and store them in the garage too. Sound good?”
“Sure,” Otis shrugged. “How hard could it be?”

Thirty minutes later
***
Bex
She could hear Joe’s howls as she ransacked Chris and Cindy’s freezer for the ice pack she knew was in there.
“My left!” he yelled. “I said MY left!”
Where was that freakin’ ice pack?
Spotting it behind the box of waffles, she grabbed it plus a clean tea towel and ran back outside. Otis was apologizing profusely while he crouched in front of Joe who was sprawled on the ground, gripping his foot with both hands and scowling.
“You just had to say it,” Joe grumbled. “How hard could it be? How about dropping a whole playhouse on my foot hard?”
“I still say you nodded to my left,” Otis muttered, holding up his hands when Joe glared murderously at him.
“I’ve got the ice,” Bex said, waving it in the air as she hurried over. “How are you doing, Joe?”
He gave her a pained smile. “Not too bad,” he said. “I don’t think it’s broken.” He’d managed to remove his shoe while she was gone and must have given it a quick once over.
“Shay texted me back and said they’ll be here in a few minutes.” She wrapped up the ice pack in the tea towel and handed it over to him. “She’ll take a look at it and make sure.”
They secured the ice pack to his foot and got him upright. With Bex on one side and Otis on the other, they managed to get him inside so he could sit down and put his foot up.
“I really am sorry, man,” Otis said, full-on sad puppy eyes on display.
“I know,” Joe said, settling into the arm chair as Bex eased a stool under his foot. “It’s okay. I’m sorry that I can’t help finish clearing the yard.”
He turned to Bex at the same time as Otis and she was faced with two pairs of sad puppy eyes.
“Guys, it was an accident,” Bex said, laughing a little despite the part of her brain that was screaming about how behind they were now. “Nobody meant for it to happen and I’m just glad you’re not too badly hurt, Joe. I had plans for you on the dance floor tonight.”
“Ooh.” Joe raised his eyebrows at her. “I will keep this sucker elevated and see what I can do.”
The doorbell rang. The food crew. Right on time.
“That’s what I like to hear,” she called over her shoulder as she went to answer the door. Donna, Uncle Bo, Trudy, Uncle Mouch, Shay, and Julie filed in one after the other, each one loaded down with bags.
As soon as Shay’s hands were free, she zipped over to check out Joe’s foot while Otis helped the others start to organize the food. She quickly declared his foot bruised, but not broken and jumped back into the kitchen fray.
Good news, but it still left her a man down. She couldn’t steal anyone from the food prep team, but there was no way she and Otis could clear the backyard on their own.
She needed reinforcements.
Bex pulled out her phone and started texting.

Connor
“Maggie, have you seen Will?” Connor asked as he looked around the ED. Things had slowed down enough for lunch breaks and he was going to see if Will wanted to grab a bite to eat together.
They’d been doing that more and more lately to the point where Connor found himself waiting if Will was still busy so that they could go together.
Maggie smothered a grin as she jerked a nod at the exit. “Somebody already claimed him for their lunch date,” she said. “I think they’re trying to steal your man.”
Connor shot her a look and shook his head. “Not my man,” he said under his breath.
Yet, she mouthed at him as he headed for the exit.
Looking around outside, Connor quickly spotted Will sitting on the sidewalk next to a shaggy, brown dog. A slow smile spread across his face as he took in the sight.
Will was using the empty lid of his styrofoam sandwich container as a make-shift water bowl for the dog. He was holding the other half while he picked out pieces of ham from his sandwich and held them out for the dog who received them with careful nibbles.
“Don’t expect ham everyday,” Will was saying. “We need to get you some proper dog food for a healthy diet.”
The dog grinned up at him and caught his chin in a lick.
“Yeah, yeah,” Will chuckled. “Try and butter me up all you want, but these ham rules are firm.”
Unrepentant, the dog shuffled over and plopped itself in Will’s lap which it was entirely too big for. Will threw his head back and laughed, not even noticing as the dog nosed its way through the container to sneak more ham.
This dog was definitely trying to steal his man.
Connor walked up to the pair and took a seat on the raised flower bed Will was leaning against. “Who’s your new friend?”
Will looked up at him with a sheepish smile. “His name is Kol,” Will said. “He belongs to a patient I’m treating who asked me to come out and check on him. Guy was hit by a car on their morning walk, but Kol here seems to be okay.” Will rubbed a hand over the dog’s head before gently covering his fluffy ears.
“I don’t think his owner is going to make it,” he said quietly. “He's in and out. It doesn't look good." Will sighed. "He doesn’t have anyone who can take Kol and that's causing stress he doesn't need right now. Maggie put a call in to the SPCA, but they’re having a hard time finding a place for him.”
Will removed his hands and fed Kol some more bits of sandwich. The dog side-eyed Connor a bit before deeming him safe and accepting the food from Will.
“What are you thinking?” he asked because this was Will and he absolutely had a plan.
“I’m thinking I need to see how Bex feels about a third roommate,” Will said shooting him a wry grin. “I don’t really want to let this guy go.”
Connor knew the feeling.
He stood up then because he could only watch Will smile and cuddle with a cute dog for so long before he did something dumb like grabbing him by the shirt collar and kissing the hell out of him.
Because not yet.
He wasn’t his man yet. He’d been giving Will the space he needed and enjoying their growing friendship.
But in the meantime—
“I was going to grab some lunch,” he said with a nod at the food truck. “Want me to grab you another sandwich since you shared most of yours?”
“That would be great,” Will said with a nod. “Thanks, Connor.”
“Anytime.” Connor headed off, not needing to ask for the order he knew off by heart by now.
Because not yet.
But definitely soon.
Even if he had to share with Kol.

Matt
Matt looked out at the long line of traffic standing still in front of him, the tell-tale sign of emergency lights up ahead, and in the rearview at Tony and Capp’s truck stuck behind them.
“Are you calling Bex or am I?” he sighed.
Sev snorted at him which was answer enough.
Bracing himself, Matt pulled out his phone and made the call.

Anything for you
Anything for you
Paring: Connor kenway X reader
Warnings: angst, because I’m an angst queen, uhhh Haytham. Arranged marriage, mentions of murder... it’s assassins creed so...
Summery: during a small hunting trip Connor wonders across a lost women who he can’t keep his mind off of
Authors note: this is my first Connor fic! And I’m sorry it took so long I just couldn’t think of anything for this and ended up forgetting I had it I won’t lie to you. But it’s here now!
Tumblr media
Connor sighed heavily as he walked threw the forest, his large boots treading in the dirt as he looked threw the forest. Today’s hunt wasn’t good, neither was yesterday’s. He was the best hunter they had and yet it’s like he was the worst. He couldn’t explain it for the life of him but it was starting to frustrate him.
Maybe he’d have better luck up High, in the trees. A smiled grew on his face at the thought before he scaled his way up the tree and threw the large heft branches until he heard something. The sound of snapping twigs below him, below the trees, that’s what called his attention.
Looking down quickly he was amazing to find not a wolf, bear or even a deer, but a girl. A women, a women like he’d never seen. Dressed in a fine dress of blue and white hues, her hair curled and falling down her back as she ran. Holding up her dress as she sprinted threw the large forest, but why was she running? Soon as he began to ask himself that question he was cut off by a large growl not far away, a bear.
He didn’t hesitate to start shooting arrows at the large beast as he jumped down from the trees to fight it. He was a talented hunter so a bear like this was nothing for him, it was quick work really. Only one scratch when he knocked the beast to the ground and looked up at the scared girl who just watched the whole time.
She was terrified and he could tell by the way her hands shook and the tears roll down her face. He quickly moved to her and grabbed her face gently with his large rough hands.
“Hey-hey it’s okay... it’s okay...” he whispered wiping the tears from under her eyes “he can’t bother you anymore” he smiled kindly moved his other hand to grab hers, the both fit in his so easily
“What’s your name?” He asked her.
“(Y/n)” she whispered in her shaky tone. “(Y/n) McCormick” she whimpered leaning into his warm touch like she’d never been touched before.
“Well- (y/n)... what are you doing out here?” He asked her pushing messy hair from her face, she was so beautiful, even when she was crying, even when her face was all red and panicked.
“I-I came-I came out because I-I was I-I was trying to-to get some peace and - and quiet and then I was to stuck in my head I walked to far and-and” she whimpered and cried more, it made him sad to see such a beautiful girl like this, shaking in fear.
“Hey-hey it’s okay- I’ll help you out of here alright?” He smiled and kissed her forehead, taking her hand and wiping her tears.
“T-thank you” she stuttered and sniffed as she started walking with him. She walked holding his arm and holding up her dress with her other hand as they wondered the forest.
“So what made you come out here?” He asked after a few moments of silence and she finally calmed down.
“My father... he’s... he’s betrothed me to a man I don’t even know...” she looked up at him and sighed “I shouldn’t tell you stuff like that you probably think I’m crazy for making such a big deal out of this”
“No, I don’t think you’re crazy” he looked at her “I think you should be able to choose your partner” he said kindly as he helped her step over a log, he knew the forest in and out so he had no problem helping her. “Can I ask who he’s betrothed you too?” He asked, it came off as kind but in the back of his head it was a vicious thought, a wrong thought to have for a man he doesn’t know.
“His names Haytham...” she answered looking up at him.
“H-haytham?” He said, the name itself shocked him inside and out. His father did not deserve a girl as beautiful as this, and definitely not one so young compared to him.
“Yes, haytham kenway... do you know him?” She asked seeing his expression.
“I-I do not- I do not know him” of course he knew him but that would be so weird if he just said ‘oh yea that’s my father’
“Oh...” she nodded and kept walking with him “I’ve heard of him, he’s one of my fathers good friends but he would never let me meet him...” she said softly
“How badly do you not want to marry this man?” He asked her as he started to see the town again
“Pretty badly...” she whispered holding his arm still even tho they could see the town.
“Why is your father making you marry him?” He asked.
“Because he thinks it’s what’s best for me...” she sighed heavily and looked down as they fit to the edge of the woods finally.
“Well I guess I’ll let you go here...” he whispered looking at her.
“I never got your name” she said looking at him with her big soft eyes.
“Oh, You can call me Connor” he smiled and wiped her face one last time so she looks alright to others.
“Thank you, Connor” she kissed his cheek and hugged him before hurrying back home before her parents worried to much.
Connor watched her leave and smiled to himself, his hand resting where her lips touched his skin. The moment didnt last however because now he had to find his father and stop this marriage.
It didn’t take long to find the old man in his study. Connor busted the doors open and looked at him with a bit of anger “cancel it”
“You know you don’t have to tear up my door every time you-“ Haytham started
“Cancel the wedding” Connor said firmly.
“Excuse me?” Haytham raised an eyebrow.
“With (y/n) you can’t marry her” he said in a deep growl, almost protective.
“And why can’t I?” Haytham crossed his arms.
“She’s unhappy- she’s to-to good for you” Connor claimed
“How do you know she’s unhappy? You don’t even know the girl”
“I do know her! I met her today in fact and she told me everything” Connor said sternly “I have not asked you for much in my life but all I ask now is this, call it off and let her be free”
“If I do that her father will just send her to someone else” Haytham said
“I’ll be that someone else!” Connor said almost excitedly but it didn’t last long
“You can not be that person Connor”
“And why not?” He groaned
“Because you’re an assassin...” Haytham said quietly yet stern.
“And-.... her fathers a Templar?” He asked furrowing his brows and looking at his father in shock and worry. Haytham only nodded and sat back down in his seat.
“Shay McCormick... I believe your creed knows him” Haytham sighed.
“Of course... I should’ve known...” he shook his head and ran his fingers threw his hair.
“If you’ve just meet her today, why do you care so much for who she marries...” Haytham stood again and slowly walked towards his son.
“Because she’s the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen...” he looked back at his father “I don’t even know her but to see her cry made me feel broken, father...” he whispered. “I can’t let you take her away...”
Haytham sighed heavily and nodded, he didn’t know what to do in this situation. But he wanted to do right by his son, for once.
“I can delay the wedding until it’s safe... I can’t however just cancel, to much relays on this, however if I can push it back I can work around it for you” Haytham said putting his hand on connors shoulder. Connor had never smiled brighter then that moment, he was so happy with his fathers words he even hugged him.
The moment was short lived at they heard people downstairs, so quickly Connor made his way out the window and away.
A few weeks after that Connor had come up with a plan, every Friday he would send (y/n) flowers. However when he started that her mother kept thinking they were for her, so plan changed. Every Friday he would sneak into her room and put flowers on her table, good thing that was today.
Today he’d gotten a large bundle of daisys and lavender for her, he noticed she’d had problems sleeping recently so he got the lavender to help her rest at night. Just as he was setting the vase down on her bed side table the door behind him creaked open and he quickly turned.
(Y/n) screamed and dropped the bowl in her hands before covering her mouth the moment she noticed who was in her room. “(Y/n)? Is everything alright up there?” Her mother called
“Yes mama, I just saw a rather large... moth...?” She said almost questioning her own words before her mother just went along with whatever she was doing before, and (y/n) looked back at Connor.
“ what on earth are you doing in my room?” She said freaked out as she closed her door and locked it, cleaning up the mess she made in the floor quickly.
“I - I uh- I was bringing you... flowers?” He scratched the back of his neck as he spoke, before helping her clean up the mess.
“You’ve been the one doing that?” She asked him softly, pushing hair behind her ear as she looked at him. A slight blush crept to her face as she put the bowl aside and stood with him.
“Um... yea- yes- I... I’ve been sending them for awhile but I think your mother has been taking them so I just started... delivering them?” He chuckled nervously and smiled at her. She was so small compared to him, he was a tall muscular man and she was this little graceful girl.
She giggled and nodded “yes fathers been wondering where the flowers come from” she chuckled and ran her fingers threw her hair. He smiled at her and sighed
“Well I’ve gotten you some daisies and lavender today...” he said walking back over to the window “and I-I should be off now”
“No-wait... you don’t have to leave” she grabbed his hand quickly. His heart fluttered feeling her skin against his, it made him feel this warmth he’d never felt before.
“You wish me to stay?” He moved his hand to the side of her face.
“Of course I wish you to stay... plus I know you’re not going far... you’re not a good hider...” she giggled and smiled
“Not a good hider- oh...” he blushed and looked down before getting his confidence back “I’ll have you know I’m an amazing hider”
“Then why have I noticed you threw my window the past few nights?” She smirked and crossed her arms
“Maybe I wanted to be noticed” he said trying to be tough to her.
“Well maybe I wanted you to come in rather then just stare, why do you think I opened my window?” She said raising her eyebrow. “I could barely sleep it was so cold”
“You could- you opened that for me...?” He blushed and smiled “I didn’t know I’m sorry”
“It’s okay, I should’ve said something” she smiled at him and put her hand on his face. He couldn’t hold it any long, he needed to say something for he exploded.
“You’re the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen” he whispered and kissed her palm, slowly kissing up her arm.
“Excuse me?” She blushed
“I said you’re the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen” he whispered in her ear and pulled away slowly.
“Oh I know what you said I just wanted to hear you say it again” she teased and cupped his face softly, he smirked a little and shook his head.
“You’re silly, little cub “ he smiled.
“You like how silly I am” she smiled at him and kissed the back of his hand “if you hadn’t you wouldn’t have watched me so long, my little eagle”
He chuckled and kissed the top of her head “you’re a smart one” he pulled her closer slowly. “Can I be bold with you?” He whispered into her hair
“Yes sir” she rested her hands on his chest and leaned into him. She didn’t know how to explain it but she felt so comfortable in his arms, like he was a guardian of sorts, meant to protect her.
“I think I’m in love with you” he whispered and moved his finger under her chin, making her look up at him.
“You -you love me?” She smiled and blushed looking at him
“I do...” he said softly “and I would like to kiss you...” he admitted
“You need not ask, Connor...” she smiled and leaned up, pressing her lips to his softly. The kiss was sweet and deep, longing almost. It felt so right in every way that it made their hearts fly. She tugged his shirt softly pulling him closer before they finally parted and looked at each other
“I want to marry you...” he whispered
“Connor you know I cant-“
“I’ll do anything to make you mine, (y/n), anything... if that means killing that man then I will”
“Connor you sound mad” she said backing up a bit but he grabbed her hand.
“Forgive me, please I just... I don’t want to go another moment without you...” he whispered and looked into her eyes. She smiled and nodded softly
“I’d prefer if you didn’t kill him but... do what you must”

Random 2,000 word Short story
Soul mates, a term that was known to Desmond Miles, but it wasn't one that was a real thing. At least in the world that he had originally come from. Originally, now- that sounds odd, Desmond had placed his hand on the pedestal- knowing that it would kill him, but would save the world from the extinction level event of the massive solar flare. He had fully expected nothingness, after the agony had ended, but he woke up, very confused and hurt- dear God did his arm and shoulder. He was almost frozen from the pain, but he needed to get up and get out of here before the Templars found him. It would be a very bad thing if he was found by them in his weakened state. Plus he needed to find his father and his friends and get treatment for his arm.
He staggered out of the cave that hid the entrance to the Temple of Time. Over the next few months- after going to an emergency clinic and the nurse on staff fix him up with magic, honest to goodness magic to fix him up he... realized as he looked around with careful eyes that the world he was now in- and no it wasn't a hallucination- or a series of them had magical beings. Oh good- as a human in a world where there were creatures far stronger and dangerous than he. Fun- hopefully he could find a Library and read up on etiquette so he didn't offend someone so much that he got munched on. Or worse, and he didn't know what could be worse, but knowing his kind of luck, something much, much worse. So he was able to get to a Library and get a card and slowly read through world history books and all the other books he needed to in order to survive in a new world. It was equal parts boring, scary and interesting.
He was also able to forge documents that he needed in order to be deemed a person and got a Bartender's license and was able to get a job a one of the few jobs that he had really liked in his previous life. Desmond kept his head down and did his job, reveling in the mundaness of this new life, happy that he wouldn't have to worry about Templars or Assassins, at least so far he hadn't needed to worry about it. Juno- she was so angry. In this world she hadn't been able to escape because he survived. Minerva had warned him that if anyone found out that it was He that saved the world with the Aurora Arboreal Shield that his life would be misery. He didn't trust any of the Isu- but he also knew that they had a point. Besides, who would believe him if he told them the truth anyways?
So- finding out this world had legitimate soul mates had been... shocking to say the least. There was a name on the inside of left wrist- he had touched the pedestal with his right hand. He had read the name, then scoffed bitterly. It was someone, at least in his world, that had already died. Of course, he had shitty luck with this. Of course he did- fate just loved to screw him over as much as it could. The name was Connor Ratonhake:ton Kenway. His other arm- the one that had been burnt he covered. At first to help it recover, then later, once it was fully he found out that he had scars on that arm, which made sense that he would have them with burns as bad as he had. Starting at his finger tips and moving up his arm and ending curled around his shoulder joint was a series geometric matters that, when he used magic- which was another whole nasty surprise that he'd gotten- that arm would glow and the patterns on that arm reminded him of the Apple and other pieces of Eden with the markings that covered them.
Best to cover himself- than gain unwanted attention, he did not know how the two orders were different, if much or a lot with this different world. He had regular customers and those that did not come in again. When he served Altair ah la bin ahad, he had made sure not to react- as there were other people that reacted to his presence, so it was that he was actually there and not a hallucination. Which- okay was fucking weird. Then a few months later he gave Ezio Auditore a drink and a small platter of food. Okay- so a couple of his ancestors - were not so in this world, at least... not at this point in time. Well, he had dealt with the weirdest of things in his life before, and he could deal with it now.
What he did not expect, a few nights later- was to be attacked and kidnapped, by Templars. Again. Oh by the randomness of the universe why? Why him? Why again? I this world he was a nobody - a... a nobody that looked a lot like a pair of Master Assassins. Not again, oh HELL no. He did not want to be tortured by Templars, again, because of who is related to- well probably not, but because of who he resembled. He was roughly shoved into what sounded like a cell with the bag on his head pulled off, he looked around, miserable and frustrated. Luckily for him Cesare Borgia was informed of the fact that "Ezio Auditore" was in the special cell that made his type of beings powers null and void. Borgia swaggered in and stared at him.
"Who the Hell are you- Damn it those idiots grabbed the wrong person." Cesare sighed in annoyance and he scolded his people, but he couldn't just let this person go- as they could and probably would go to the police and tell them what had happened to him, not that they'd believe that a nobody like this poor sod that happened to resemble an Auditore had been kidnapped by the Borgia- but it would cause a fracas and he'd get into trouble with his superiors. "what's the name on your wrist?"
"... Why should I tell you mysterious kidnapper person?" Desmond retorted, snapping the question out.
"Because I can release them into your care if you tell me- so long as you don't tell anyone about this little... misunderstanding." Cesare replied.
Desmond stared at the arrogant Templar. "... I cann't pronounce part of the name."
"Just tell me as much of as you can." Cesare replied getting annoyed.
"Fine. Connor. Ra-raton-hake:ton Kenway. I double you know this person." Desmond replied.
Except, in this world he had been found by his Father sooner and is a loyal and powerful Templar Knight. Desmond did not know that though, not yet at least.
"..." Cesare was quiet, "I will get your soul mate shortly."
No one lied about the name on their wrist, this could cause some minor problems, but it was also fortuitous. This random soul had the name of a fellow Templar, hopefully the annoyance that the other Templar would have when he heard of the capture of a civilian would be lessened once he found out that it was his soul mate.
An hour or so later Desmond blinked as he saw the tall and physically impressive form of his soul mate. "... Hello? The weirdo that captured me said he'd bring me my soul mate... is that you?"
"Yes, Hello Desmond, I'm Connor."
"it's nice to meet you- can you get me out of here please? I don't know why I was kidnapped to meet you... seems rather... extreme?" he replied, the question at the end of the sentence wasn't something that he meant to have happen.
"I.. did not have this happen. Cesare... was looking for someone else. I apologize, will you come with me to get out of here?"
"Yes please!" Desmond replied as he followed the other out of the cell and to where to other men- both older and taller than him.
Connor's father and- ... why was Cormac, of all of the members of Kenway's Inner circle with the pair of Kenways.
He spoke with them politely, as much as he could when anxious- and when he got anxious he turned into a smart ass. It made Cormac crack a grin, while Kenway seemed mildly disapproving of this nervous chatter. He found out why- Cormac is the older Kenway's soul mate. Huh- well isn't that something? He shrugged, it wasn't his problem.
He got to know his soul mate and father's in law over the next few months. One day he tugged Connor to the side and showed him one of his secrets. His hands glowed and he showed him a small portion of a shield- the colors of the rainbow. Connor's eyes widened as he tired told the other that he had been the one to protect the world from the Solar Maxima- which he had known for a certain which would have cause extinction level events across the whole world if he hadn't... nearly died. He quietly informed the other that he had thought he would die, and had accepted, at least as much as one could accept such a horrid thing to happen to one's self. And... one of the reasons why he hadn't tried to search for his soul mate earlier- because he knew he was going to die, or at least he thought he was going to on that cold December day. Connor had reached out and held him tight, as Desmond quietly told him of being talked at by the Isu- or Ancient Ones, as this world knew them by. As the three specters of a once wretched and powerful society had told him bits and pieces of information over the years and had let him make the choice. And what kind of choice was it? Allow the world to burn and be assured of survival, or die (or almost) and save everyone else... So he made the only choice he thought was the right one. Needs of the few, outweigh the needs of the many and all that.
Neither were aware that Shay and Haytham had just so happened be nearby to hear Desmond speak of this. It was... a surprise to hear him tell Connor of this. Instead of showing the world, and having the proof of having everyone in the world owe him a life debt- even though with the humans it didn't effect them as much, it did more for all of the magical beings. He wanted to live a quiet life, in peace and content with his sacrifice being known to as few people as possible. They would keep quiet, despite the fact that everyone wanted to know who it was that had saved them- who was strong enough to cover the world in a shield and redirect the energy of the sun harmlessly and why they hadn't known about such a person before and why now of all times. Now, they knew, as did Connor. Who agreed to keep this secret from others.
They looked at each other and nodded before heading off and speaking to each other quietly. "So- that's what the lad has been hiding from us and Connor. I am glad that the lad isn't an Assassin- I'm sorry for worrying you about that but- it... he just seemed to move like one."
"It's alright Shay, I am glad as well to know the young man's story, his true story and not the falsified one on a faked paper trail. Hm... I will do my best to have this legitimized as much as possible."
Shay nodded and the two of them headed off to work. Why Connor and Desmond snuggled and watched a movie after a lot of heavy feelings and emotional talk and secrets came out from both of them.

READER’S POV
I’m halfway to the meeting spot, wondering which descendant it is I’m protecting, when my phone rings. I frown as I see Rebecca’s name flash on the screen and then I answer it.
“What’s up? The assassin with the descendant hasn’t left early have they? I’m not even running late.” I say in a rush down the phone.
“No, no! That’s all fine. The thing is, this wasn’t a real mission. Someone has been changing the schedules which is why you’ve had so many missions.” Rebecca says, sounding worried.
“What? How is that possible? We both know those schedules are made up by Connor and sent straight to you.” I gasp down the phone.
“Hold on, they’re all coming into the room right now.” Rebecca says, voice going tinny as she puts me on speakerphone.
“So, what the hell is happening?” I growl down the phone.
“We don’t know. Whoever it is, is good enough to break into Rebecca’s personal computer and change the schedules that she copies and saves on it but is unable to break into any of the mainframe computers.” Connor says over the line.
“That’s why you’re all okay with still talking over the phone.” I sigh, figuring it out.
“Wait, why are you still on your way to the meeting spot? You left a while ago, long enough to be there already.” Rebecca says shrewdly.
“I decided to take a slow walk.” I reply defensively.
“You’re hurt, aren’t you?” She snaps.
“Don’t be ridiculous.” I snort, wincing as it causes my ribs to give a twinge.
“I’m not being ridiculous! You need to come back, now. This isn’t a real mission anyway.” Rebecca sighs.
“Nah, I’m here anyway and it’s an easy job to do.” I reply stiffly.
“Can you listen to me for once, please?” She snaps at me.
“Bye.” I sing song down the phone, hanging up on her.
I can’t give up a mission, no matter what they say. They never would’ve, they would’ve just powered through it. They never had days off, never had a schedule for rest. I’m the youngest in the group, Rebecca being ten years older than me, and I HAVE to prove I can be just as good as them.
A few hours later, the descendant is safely back at home and I actually had fun. She was a nice older woman and all she wanted to do was do some shopping. I even spotted some nice bits I want to get on payday. She was quite a fun woman too, good sense of humour. I’m moving along the rooftops but I’m exhausted so I’m moving sluggishly. When I almost fall from a roof for the third time, I decide I’d better walk. I land in an alleyway so I’m not noticed and sigh as my phone rings.
“Yep?” I snap into it, wishing I could be left alone for a little while.
“You should be back by now.” I hear Altair’s calm voice state.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware I was grounded! Did I break curfew?” I reply sarcastically.
“Do not be like that. We’re just concerned about what is happening and how it seems to be centred around you.” He replies.
“You do all realise that I’m actually an assassin, right? I’m not some weak little mouse that needs protecting. I’m just as good as all of you.” I snap.
“No one is doubting that.” He says sternly, a trace of shock in his voice.
“Yeah, sure you’re not.” I hiss.
I hang up before he can say anything and start to walk again, this time in the opposite direction to the Brotherhood compound. I shouldn’t have gotten so upset with him, shouldn’t have had a go at Altair like that, but it’s just so much to live up to sometimes. They’re all these big legends and I’m just me. I’m just…good but they’re all great. All this circles around my head as I just wander. My phone keeps ringing so I turn it off, even if it’s against the rules. We’re supposed to always have them on so that Rebecca can track them in case something happens.
“He said you’d get depressed and make a mistake.” I hear from behind me.
“Who said that?” I snap, spinning round.
I blink rapidly as the world tilts, making me realise just how exhausted and in pain I am.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” Another voice says, close behind me.
Before I manage to turn around I feel a pinch in my neck. The world begins to swirl and I realise that I’ve been drugged. I’m going to die and all because I wanted to prove something. A few seconds later I hit the floor and the world goes black.
I groan as I come around, realising I’m chained to a hook in the ceiling and my ankles are chained to the floor. Even if my bruised ribs weren’t screaming in agony at me, I’d have a hard time escaping from this. I glance up at two male Templars that are standing in front of me with grins.
“Aw, look, she’s finally awake. That means we can finally have some fun with her.” The taller one says.
“Why aren’t I dead?” I ask, trying to think of a way out of here.
“Firstly, because our little helper made a deal to keep you alive.” The shorter one smirks.
“Secondly, because you know who the assassins are being run by.” The taller one grins.
“I’ll never betray the Brotherhood.” I snarl.
“We were hoping you’d say that.” The taller one grins.
They walk over to me and all I can do is try to let my mind wander as they rain down punches, slaps and kicks.
“Stop!” I hear from the doorway.
I cough and spit out blood as two more figures wander into the room.
“We were told to have a talk with her.” One of the blurry figures says.
The original Templars move and the new two step right up to me. I blink until I can focus on their faces, gasping in shock.
“Shay Cormac? Haytham Kenway?” I breathe in disbelieve.
How is this possible? Altair never said anything about telling either of them. Never said anything about either of them touching the pendant. Haytham never even followed the Assassin’s Creed. As my mind races, I still take in every detail of my surroundings just like I was taught to. They seem…off. They seem ill or less healthy than the others.
“The Templars have found a way to make people immortal. Tell us what we want to know or else they will make you immortal so the torture can last forever.” Haytham states but he sounds weak.
I feel panic for a few seconds but then something clicks.
“Then why just you two?” I gasp out.
 “What?” Shay demands.
“If they can make anyone immortal, why you two? I mean, you have an impressive record each but there are other Templars who were better than you.” I laugh, choking on my own blood.
“You do not need to know our plans, only the consequences to not telling us who is in charge.” Haytham states.
“Nope. See, I think it’s just you two. I think you are the only ones who are immortal and no one knows why.” I reply slyly.
“Tell us who leads the Brotherhood. You won’t like what comes next.” Shay says, actually looking sorry.
 “Screw you all!” I snap.
The original two step back inside the room as Haytham and Shay leave with sorrowful shakes of their heads.
“Stop!” A familiar voice calls out as the two are about to start beating on me again.
“Why should we?” The taller one snaps.
“Because she’s my reward and she’s no good to me damaged.” The voice says.
The two growl and storm off, back out of the room. I blink as I see who called them off, everything clicking into place.
“You son of a bitch!” I shout, wincing in pain.
“Now, now. No need to be like that. I did all this for you.” Bradley, Rebecca’s PA says.
“Me? How did you do all this for me?” I ask in bemusement.
“They promised me that if I led them to the brotherhood’s boss, they would make both of us immortal.” He grins manically.
“And you believed them?! Are you insane?!” I chuckle.
“Shut up! For years, I’ve loved you, wanted to be with you, but you just ignored me! So, I came up with a way for us to be together. Forever. All you have to do is tell them who we work for.” He says with a cheery grin.
“No.” I state with a sneer.
He storms over to me, slaps me across the face and then unchains me. I groan as I slam against the floor, causing even more pain to my other injuries. My head swims and I can’t get my body to cooperate, the pain and exhaustion becoming too much.
“At least I’ll be able to claim my prize now.” He smirks, standing over me.
All I can do is blink at him, trying to get my body to work again. He kneels between my legs and starts to undo my jeans, tugging them down.
“No.” I murmur weakly, trying to squirm away as I realise what he’s planning on doing.
“Come on, Baby, you’ll enjoy it.” He grins.
I try to push at him but I’m too weak. He begins to undo his own trousers and all I can do is whimper as I try to get my body to do SOMETHING. Just as I’m sure I’m about to be raped, and there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it, he’s grabbed and pulled away from me. I blink as I see Jacob standing there and then he starts beating Bradley, leaving a broken and bloody corpse on the ground by the time he’s finished. Jacob rushes over to me, pulls my jeans back into place and lifts me up in his arms, just as the others come into the room.
“What are you all doing here?” I question quietly.
“Saving you, Lass. What else would we do?” Edward smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
We head out of the room, walking down unfamiliar hallways. I hate they’ve had to do this, put their selves in danger because of me. Putting their secret in danger because of me. As we’re about to leave we hear two male screams, screams whose voices I recognise.
“We have to help them.” I gasp, struggling against Jacob’s hold.
“We can’t. There’s too much risk of getting caught.” Edward says, regret burning in his eyes.
“It’s Shay Cormac and Haytham!” I tell him sternly, heart breaking at the look in his eyes.
 “H-Haytham? H-how?” Edward stutters.
“I don’t know but it is them. They are just like all of you and judging by those sounds, the Templars have been torturing them the whole time. We have to help them.” I say, trying desperately to fight against my own body’s weakness.
“I have to go to him.” Edward declares to the others.
“I’m going too. I may have been the one to kill him but he’s still my Father.” Connor insists gently.
The others all nod, understanding how much family means.
“Shay too. I know what he did but no one deserves this.” I pant, finding it hard to stay conscious now.
They both nod and then turn towards the screams, Ezio and Altair going with them. Jacob and Desmond continue out with me and we head straight to the compound, moving as quickly as possible with my useless weight slowing them down. Jacob takes me straight to the medical wing, laying me down on a bed as he collects the medical supplies. He starts patching up my injuries, growling in annoyance when he sees how many are from the last few weeks.
“I’m sorry.” I gasp, pain and meds taking their toll on me.
“For what?” Jacob asks, barely glancing up from my wounds.
“For being weak enough to get captured. For needing to be rescued. For putting you all out in the open. For not being as strong as any of you.” I sob, emotions running riot.
“You think you’re not strong because you got captured?” Jacob asks calmly.
“I’m not as strong as any of you, obviously. I got caught stupidly easily and needed to be rescued!” I sob harder, trying to breathe at the same time.
“And you think it couldn’t have happened to any of us? That we can’t have ever dropped our guards and been caught?” He demands, fingers running over his eye reflexively.
I just stare at him as I realise the stupidity of what I just said.
“I’m sorry.” I whisper, feeling stupid.
“Look, Love, you are every bit as fast and strong as us. There is no shame in being captured, hopefully it will not take as long for you to realise that as it did for me to.” Jacob says softly, wiping my tears away with his thumbs.
I smile at him as my eyes begins to drift shut.
“Sleep. You need rest to heal. That’s what Evie always told me.” Jacob smiles.
Just as I drift off I hear Shay and Haytham being brought in, they’re battered and covered in injuries but I know they’ll be fine now. I smile at them as I finally allow the darkness to take me.
