Seventy-Two Hours In … The ultimate way to micro-dose on nature is to spend three days in a glass cabin pitched in the Swedish wilderness. The ’72-Hour Cabin Project’ is an experiment supported by Swedish scientists investigating how immersing yourself in nature can improve your physical and mental health. In fact nature is so good for your wellbeing that it is being sold as an antidote to modern life. An industry has grown up around the Japanese practice of forest bathing — immersing yourself in woodland without your phone et al to heal your body and mind. And its not just happening in exotic locales, no, research by geographers from ‘Loughborough University’ found that middle-class families are acquiring plots of British woodland in increasing numbers, so that they can interact with nature in their own weekend retreats. If you’re not prepared to commit to your own bit of greenery then perhaps the ’72-Hour Cabin Project’ is more your speed. Simply rock up lake Ånimmen in the heart of Dalsland, Henriksholm, stay in one of the five individually spaced glass houses and immerse yourself in nature. Activities include walking, fishing, rowing and you can finish off your day in the lakeside sauna. You won’t starve, there is a fully equipped house known as the ‘Pavillion’ which has a kitchen, open fireplace, bathroom & toilet, veranda and terrace with seating. The glass cabins come with naught but some candles a warm, comfy bed. Star gaze the night away. Blissful. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #allemansrätten #sweden #henriksholm #dalsland #lakeÅnimmen #glasshouses #nature #nurture #hiking #fishing #rowing #stargazing #seventytwohourcabinproject (at Henriksholm) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAcTNI7gqIP/?igshid=1xtdngpotzk3h

Seventy-Two Hours In … On an island in lake Ånimmen in the heart of Dalsland, Henriksholm there are five identical glasshouses individually placed on the southern part of the spit of land. The island comprises 60% forest and 40% grazing for highland cattle. Each glass house has a stunning view over the lake and of the sky. This is the ’72-Hour Cabin Project’. The five outbuildings are served by a fully equipped house known as the ‘Pavillion’ complete with kitchen, open fireplace, bathroom & toilet, veranda and terrace with seating. You can choose to have your meals there or by the shore. During your 72 hour stay at the glasshouse you will find all the creature comforts you need as you get closer to nature. You also have access to typically Swedish nature-based activities. Take a walk in the forest, there are maps and tips available to accompany you on your way. Perhaps floating on the lake in a traditional rowing boat is more your speed, to fish or simply enjoy the water. Rods are supplied for fishing. To really kick back make the most of the wood-heated sauna just by the lake. Upon arrival at Dalsland you will be met by a boat at the jetty right below the 1200th century church of Ånimskog which will take you to the boathouse at Henriksholm Island. It all sounds rather romantic, doesn’t it?! #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #allemansrätten #sweden #henriksholm #dalsland #lakeÅnimmen #glasshouses #nature #nurture #hiking #fishing #rowing #stargazing #seventytwohourcabinproject (at Henriksholm) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAcS9vsA-xP/?igshid=1cvsov6s5xei3

Seventy-Two Hours In … Freedom to roam the land - the Swedes have a name for it “allemansrätten”. There’s even a law in their constitution that stipulates everyone has a right to freely access nature. This means you can set up a tent anywhere and build a campfire (even on private property, as long as you’re 70 meters away from a dwelling house) you have the right to forage berries and wild mushrooms, swim and fish in the lakes, access any beach and generally ramble about in nature. Sweden takes its nature time very seriously. The ’72-Hour Cabin Project’ launched by ‘Visit Sweden’ in collaboration with west Sweden tourist board, aims to discover the effects of living “close to nature” for three days. Stay in custom-built cabins made of glass. The cabins are located on Henriksholm Island, two hours north of Gothenburg, which is 60% forest and 40% grazing for highland cattle. Jeanna Berger an architecture student at ‘Chalmers Tekniska Högskola' in Gothenburg, designed the cabins. Berger’s brother-in-law, Jonas Fred Hell and his colleague Robert Fridh from ‘Fridh & Hells BBGG AB’ construction company in Bengtsfors realised her vision and built the cabins. The raw design creates a rudimentary shelter from which to experience the natural world. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #allemansrätten #sweden #henriksholm #dalsland #lakeÅnimmen #glasshouses #nature #nurture #hiking #fishing #rowing #stargazing #seventytwohourcabinproject (at Henriksholm) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAcS1tmAU2Z/?igshid=ez9nehdjgfs1
